Play-Off Fever

Just a quick word to confirm, yes, I have spent the bank holiday weekend in the pub watching the play-offs. Just as well really, as nothing much is happening on the Arsenal front.
Therefore I offer my congratulations to Bristol Rovers, Blackpool, and particularly Derby County, who should provide six points to the mighty Arse next term.
Only one player stood out over the weekend. He didn’t play that well, and his team stayed where they belong, Arron Davies of Yeovil is as close to the League One version of Robert Pires as you are likely to see. Sadly he had little support in the green and white and Blackpool eased their way back into the top two divisions for the first time in just under thirty years.
I am mystified by the hype about todays ‘sixty million pound game”. Will Derby spend that sum having earned their place in the top flight? No, they won’t. Will anybody in the Premiership? I think not.
We are heading for a false summer as the new television money escalates asking prices. Middle of the road clubs will snap up middle of the road players for daft sums while the little quality that is available will be determined by the wages and contracts on offer rather than the transfer fees. The quality players who are on the move are by and large near the end of their contracts, and consequently not absurdly expensive.
Arron Davies for a million anyone?
