Young Strikers Commit To Arsenal

We may as well start where we left off a couple of days ago. Arsenal.com has confirmed the reports that Emmanuel Adebayor has extended his contract with the Gunners. No time frame is mentioned, but the phrase ‘long-term’ confirms that Arsene Wenger wanted to get his signature secured for a few years to come.
Not to be left out, Nicklas Bendtner was quoted by Sky Sports talking up his new five year deal. I’m not sure I know who he is referring to specifically when he says “they have told me that I figure in their plans for the future. If that had not happened, neither they nor I would have signed this deal.” The lad certainly does not suffer from a lack of confidence. I hope for his sake that he can produce the goods when called upon.
Thierry Henry has told the BBC that David Beckham is due an England recall, and if that makes news you know there is not much going on. The national broadcaster also has a nice piece about Peter Marinello and his book. I hope to have a review myself soon so I’ll leave it there for now.
A quick word is in order on Steve Sidwell’s move to Chelsea. There is no doubt he has been a significant factor in Reading’s unexpected top-half-of-the-table finish this season. The fact that his contract had expired gave him the opportunity to secure the best deal for his future. I hope he has chosen wisely. If there are no movements out of Gorky Bridge in the summer he will find himself competing for a place with the likes of Makelele, Essien, Ballack, Obi Mikel, and Lampard.
Had Arsenal not got such a rich vein of central midfielders I would not have been too upset to see him return to the club. At least now he won’t have to worry about where the next mortgage payment is coming from. Good luck son, you’ll need it.

There’s something about Bendtner what annoys me. He sounds like hes got a bit Cocky like Pennant and Upson, “I am just as good as the current strikers”. Maybe in a few years.
Still hope he does become a success at Arsenal. As for Sidwells move to Chelsea thats a step too high at the moment. Good luck though Stevie.
i quite like the cock-sure attitude of nicklas, makes a change from all the passive non-decisiveness we’ve seen a lot of lately.
of course he now needs to back up his claims with goals or else he’ll look like a prat, but at least he’s willing to put himself out there and i’m sure he knows the deal with blabbing to the press.
There was an interview sometime back on ATVO, with Marinello, and it was fascinating. He was so candid about his misdemeanours, and accepted things so honestly. Of course, all those years of introspection wouldnt have hurt, but it was still an enjoyable interview. Keep us updated on the book if you read it, Dave.
