Fulham Up First – Ronaldinho For Arsenal?
Jun 14th, 2007 by 'holic
The fixtures have been published and as long as they don’t have to be withdrawn, following Sheffield United’s appeal next week, then Arsenal have a good start.
Lawrie Sanchez will bring his new-look hoofballers across London from Fulham on the opening day, and courtesy of a Champions League qualifier we will inherit a game in hand, over everybody but Liverpool, in the midweek that follows.
The first contest against a fellow big-four team does not occur until we go to Anfield at the end of October. You should also start preparing your better halves for an early Christmas shop this year as the two weekends prior to the big day will see Chelsea and Tottenham visiting the Grove.
The sting, however, is definitely in the tail. Between the end of March and mid April we are scheduled to face Chelsea, Bolton, Liverpool, and Manchester United in consecutive matches around the Champions League Quarter-Finals. Of those only Liverpool is at home, and that coincides with the FA Cup Semi-Final.
Which manager will come out of that little lot complaining of fixture congestion and playing too many tough games on top of each other? Hopefully we will negotiate all of them successfully and avoid the need for us to be involved in the annual grumbles of the vanquished.
If you are looking for good omens we are currently scheduled to complete our home fixtures against Everton. A third Premiership trophy presentation against the blue half of Merseyside would be a wonderful coincidence.
In other news Ronaldinho has spoken of his desire to play alongside Thierry Henry. I hope he fares better in London than the last Brazilian superstar we brought in from Spain!
