Reyes Kick Starts Close Season Activity
Jun 18th, 2007 by 'holic
With two title clinching goals for Real Madrid, Jose Antonio Reyes last night opened a summer of what is expected to be hectic transfer activity. How ironic that the player not wanted by Real should come to their rescue as Barca threatened to pip them for the Primera Liga. Hopefully Jose has now put himself firmly at the top of another Spanish clubs wish list and we can bolster our own transfer fund.
The downside of that particular story is that a frustrated Barca will probably increase their efforts to attract Thierry Henry. They will need to distract fans from their failure to capture any prizes this season.
So as managers, administrators, and players start to return from their holidays we may start to see some more activity over the coming week. Having said that Arsenal may have to wait for the end of the European U-21 Championship. Ryan Babel seems the most realistic target at present.
However we can look forward to some sort of deal tomorrow according to Barry Silkman. Agents have become a necessary evil taking far too much money out of the game these days. It must be galling to all involved to have one announcing that a deal is imminent. We shall see if anything concrete happens.

Fingers crossed for some good news, but I doubt we’ll see any huge transfers this summer, either in or out. Players such as Babel fit the bill – young, talented, ready for first team football, hungry and with the right attitude.
If we avoid the sales of the last few summers, I think we’ll be just fine last year. When we last won the league (and unbeaten), we only made one signing that summer – Lehmann.
Exactly my sentiments when I heard abt Reyes’ brace – that we’ll get a good price for him now, and more suitors hopefully. Babel looks like a good target, but trying to second guess Wenger with the transfer market is practically useless. Who had heard that we were interested in the Havard guy from Norway?
