Played Two – Won Two

What more can you ask for? Yes, it’s only pre-season and these matches are just stepping-stones to where we want to be in around three weeks time. There is still something to be drawn from the first couple of matches.
Most players have had a run out of some sorts although William Gallas was again absent for the 3-0 defeat of Genclerbirligi (don’t ask!), along with Lehmann, and Gilberto who has obviously only just completed captaining Brazil to the Copa America.
Robin Van Persie looked well on the way to full fitness and grabbed two goals either side of a rare Theo Walcott strike. In the second-half we got our first glimpse of Eduardo who did little wrong, alongside Bendtner.
There was an encouraging first start for Bacary Sagna who formed a good early understanding with Walcott, and if he was a little more composed he may have had a goal to show for his efforts. Sadly he sliced the opportunity wide.
Manuel Almunia produced one important stop and was saved on another occasion by a post. Lukasz Fabianski replaced him in the second-half and is clearly eager to impress. It’s a snap judgement I know, but I don’t think I would have any qualms about him playing if he is needed this season.
I should also add, as I was quick to be critical of the ATVO stream on Saturday, that watching the game was a far more pleasant experience this time around. That could be because I managed to log on just before, rather than just after, the kick-off. Anyway, credit where it is due, thanks Arsenal.

Lucky you – it was my turn for the crap connection!
The defence looked a bit shaky though, Toure was turned far too easily early on, and there was a sense of deja vu on defending off corners. I really hope its only early season rustiness.
i gave up trying to stream on my mac last saturday, yesterday my mate brought his pc laptop round to mine and we hooked it up to my lcd. The quality was better than some of spur’s uefa cup away games 😛
Da Silva looked lively as did walcott, denilson continues to impress and sagna looked capable. I’m happy 🙂
Sorry you had trouble this time Passenal.
Prits, you are right about the defence, but I thought the problems mainly centred around Song and I think he takes enough of a bashing without ripping into him over a pre-season friendly performance in an unfamiliar position.
Dino, get back on that mac you turncoat. 😉
