Quite A Spectre As Arsenal Give A Halloween Masterclass
Oct 31st, 2007 by 'holic
So with only eleven changes from the side that started at Anfield on Sunday Arsenal took apart a Sheffield United side on the Bramall Lane ground where we were subject to a spooky Premiership defeat less than a year ago.
On Halloween the hosts didn’t have a ghost of a chance from the moment, just seven minutes in, when Eduardo scored a spectacular opener. Indeed the Blades were chasing shadows for much of the opening half.
The haunted expressions of the defenders were not helped when Eduardo doubled his, and Arsenal’s, tally from a pass by Kieran Gibbs less than five minutes into the second-half.
Denilson knocked the final nail in the coffin with a little over twenty minutes left, putting the ball over the ghoul-line from over twenty yards! With a three goal cushion it was time for the Gunners to treat the travelling fans to a view of the latest products of the academy sides. That must have been some consolation to many who would not have been getting home until the witching hour.
Fran Merida, Henri Lansbury, and Nacer Barazite were given the opportunity to display their tricks in the closing stages. The Yorkshiremen were spared any more frights however.
This was a monster of a performance from the Young Guns who would now appear to be homing in on another Carling Cup Final. Hopefully they can go one step further than last season and exorcise the demons of that defeat in Cardiff.
Another masterclass then from this exciting young group of players. I can only say fangs for the memory.
Sorry!

Yeah looking good, I reckon the signs are there for Eduardo to come off the bench on Saturday and score the winner!
This why I was against the white shirt, I knew at some time we’d have to wear white shorts and look like Sperms sorry Spurs! Well at least we didn’t play like them 😉
‘Holic shame on you and well done gooner in equal measures for the amount of clichés there, old bean! ‘Witch’ team do yu think we’l get in the next round? Arsene’s really re-‘vamp’ed this competition. (sorry too…)

groan! Great punning there ‘holic!
love the puns! ghoul-line simply rocked!
besides.. having gotten rid of ‘the beast’, think the team ‘spirit’ is really incredible now!
sorry.. heh
i would have like to see more of the subs.they were given too little time.fabianski look like he is going to be a great keeper
As far as Blades fans were concerned it was a horror show by their team though we were all bewitched by the performance of the young gooners. The second goal seem to suck the blood out of the Blades as we cast our spell over them and this competition.
another carling cup victory for the young guns, i love how we’ve gone from being berated for not fielding strong sides to in the competition to being famous for using the kids and winning.
haha n1 amos. i came back here just to read further puns cos the original was just too good.
