The Latest Anfield Triumph For Gunners?
Oct 26th, 2007 by 'holic
It is unusual for me to be preparing for the trip to Anfield so far from base. If only the game was a Saturday kick-off I could drop in on my way back from Scotland. Mrs ‘holic can, however, rest easy. I will be back in time to put the food on the table on Saturday night!
I have discussed the game this evening with someone who has a distinctive Liverpool take on the encounter. We are polite and intelligent, and there is a touch of ‘after you Claude’ about the discussion.
“I think you will beat us”. His opening gambit would make perfect sense if we were likely to meet again on Sunday evening. Then again, he is only providing a realistic assessment of what the likely outcome is in the eyes of a fan of an inconsistent side coming off the back of an unexpected European defeat.
“I’m far from sure” says I in an attempt to prepare for the sort of drubbing the Scousers handed out to us in what was a relatively meaningless league encounter at Anfield last term. That game saw a degree of payback for the two merciless beatings handed out in the space of a few days in the two domestic cup competitions by the visitors.
The three goals that dismissed the holders of the FA Cup were as much a surprise to us as them in January. The six goals rammed in by the formidable strike force that was Julio Baptista and Jeremie Aliadiere, plus an assortment of Gunners youngsters, made the League Cup quarter-final even more astonishing.
So we head into the severest test yet of this young Arsenal sides title aspirations. Possibly significantly we are still minus Robin van Persie and Philippe Senderos. Funnily enough I fear the Swiss central defender, for once, may be the bigger miss.
Rafa Benitez probably doesn’t know what side he will put out yet. I hope he does not go with a new variation of Crouch and Torres, both likely to trouble Toure and Gallas aerially. Knowing him, he won’t!
Either Theo Walcott or Eduardo da Silva will look forward to understudying van Persie against the stuttering Liverpool back four. Alexander Hleb may well be eagerly anticipating supplying the sort of defence-splitting passes on which either would thrive.
“So what is your pound on?” I hear both of you ask! I’m swaying first one way, then the other. In all honesty though if this Arsenal side is ready to live up to the hype that now surrounds it daily then this is a contest they must win.
1-2 to Arsenal. There, I’ve said it. Only one team has successfully denied them a couple of points thus far and while the quality of the opponents to date may not match that of the hosts on Sunday this is the start of a spell of games that will determine Arsenal’s Premiership season.
Anything other than a good performance will bring the pessimists out in droves. It isn’t going to happen, is it? Of all the Arsenal triumphs at Anfield in recent memory, this could be the most significant since Michael Thomas sent us all into orbit in ’89.

After a few drinks, I can see clearly now. Arsenal by easy 3-1. Reason, no Agger and too much Fabregas.
I’m hopeful our boys will raise their game enough to get the 3 points. Andy Gray thinks they may have peaked too soon, but I think they’ve still got more in their tank. They were playing well within themselves against Slavia on Tuesday.
‘It’s up for grabs, now!’ Come on you reds!
I AGREE UP THE GUNNERS!!!
ANOTHER GOAL 4 TOURE AND I WILL REALLY BE SMILING
Hi
I would like to congratulate Le professor and the young gunners for giving us the best of football ever witnessed in England and world at large. The 7-0 demolition against prague proved a lot. And for all dough ting Thomas out there your time is up. At the beginning of the season, much was said about Arsenal but but every game further dis approve all the critics. the big test awaits come Sunday,I can assure all the gunners supporters will be smiling all the way. There is one player who seems not being noticed even after displaying good football on picht. Flamini

That Jonathan Ross has a lot to answer for …
Noone is coming closer than than this. the only phrase i can use to describe the situation right now is ‘THE RETURN OF THE INVICIBLES’ And what else, we are not going to lose any game.
Look at Holic, losing his rag and calling people “cunts” because – let’s face, he’s been talking utter fucking crap for years about Wenger. This is the worst Arsenal blog on the Internet. There’s no wisdom, no insight, just illogical support and daft bravado.
