Did You Miss Carlos Vela And The Data Protection Act?
Nov 20th, 2007 by 'holic
I’m pretty sure that like me you are keen to catch all the updates on young Carlos Vela as he finds his feet (and passport) in the Primera Liga. There was a very good piece on the young Mexican that roared through NewsNow while we were all at work today (with apologies to those of you elsewhere, I am obviously on European time here!)
The salient paragraph may be this one, ‘ What’s most important though, is that he fits right in to the Arsenal mould. His first goal for Osasuna saw the young Mexican play the ball to a teammate before running into space to pick it up again a few yards outside the penalty box. Upon receiving the return pass he seamlessly integrated the ball into his stride, showing excellent close control before finishing with his left foot on the edge of the 18 yard box. The finish was Henry-esque, flying past the keeper into the roof of the net. The way Vela’s qualities were tailor-made to Arsenal was uncanny.’
The rhetoric is obviously over-the-top. All strikers at, or heading for, the Grove will be judged against Henry by sensationalists. This lad is not the next Henry in the same way that Theo Walcott will not be the next Henry, but right now I’m rather excited about just how good the first Walcott and the first Vela could become, and we don’t get much news about Carlos, so this will do for now.
Will he turn up in January? We shall see.
Goonerholic – An Assurance
Doubtless you will have been concerned by the news emanating from Whitehall today. I would just like to assure you that not all Brits are as incompetent as the idiots who allegedly run this country.
Unlike the government of the UK who have managed to lose the personal details of twenty-five million people, including their National Insurance numbers and bank account details, Goonerholic wishes to assure its readers that your data is safe with us.
Subscribers to my RSS feeds can be assured that I have not shared your details with any shady characters, and those of you who have left legitimate email addresses while leaving comments on posts imploring me to perform particularly nasty acts about my person can also be confident that I have not downloaded your details to disc and posted them in a plain brown envelope to TNT.
In fact if I did lose that information I would feel obliged to resign from my position at ‘Holic with immediate effect. Then again I’m funny like that. Something to do with upbringing, I guess?

Why ask for emails at all?
I can think of all sorts of answers, genuine and smartass in their intent, to that Bubba.
In all honesty it is just part of the software I use, and I am too lazy/thick (delete as appropriate) to disable it.
I guess I could use it to email you all with updates and offers but what’s the point? I’m not a commercial operation and if you want to read what I have to say you will come back anyway.
There’s also also a good interview with Carlos in this month’s Arsenal magazine. He seems pretty keen to join up with the team judging by his comments. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the club too, but I don’t expect to see him before the summer.
Carlos is CLASS! I’ve seen him play many times I have always been impressed he’s always a stand out player and I’m very excited knowing he will be joining back up with us soon, definitely worthy to play in the Arsenal uniform!
Seen this guy a few times and he is a typical Arsenal type of player and a typical Arsene Wenger signing. Can’t wait to see him at Arsenal. I am sure he will need a bit of time to adapt but his on and off the ball running is fantastic. He reads the game well and he is a very intelligent player. I am sure he will be a big hit for us!
lazy-arse was comparing vela to van persie, you should remember that scoring 8 times in 31 matches in 2nd league in spain is far from premier league. Robin will do the job!
I don’t think Carlos is expected to replace RVP pain arse – he’s another string to the Arsenal bow
This rhetoric about Vela is starting to concern me. I have seen little of the kid and he does look promising, but all this pressure of expectation even before we have seen him kick a ball in Arsenal colours is a bit OTT. I hope he lives up to the expectation, but we are forgetting that, even if does arrive in January with a lot of 1st team experience, the adjustment to England will probably take him a few months.
Thats probably why Wenger wants him back as soon as possible. So that he can adjust quicker, and Arsenal can then use him regularly in the 1st team, hopefully in the 2008-09 season.
