Come Bac Soon And Arsenal Eyes
Feb 15th, 2008 by 'holic
I said before the game against Blackburn that I expected us to win as long as we could get the spine of a side out. That means a couple of recognised central defenders, a bit of balance in the centre of midfield, and a recognised goalscorer up front.
The same reasoning will apply on Saturday, but I am concerned to see Bacary Sagna is likely to miss the game because of ‘personal reasons’, according to Arsenal.com. The impression one gets of him is that he is a tremendously strong character, and he adds so much to the side.
There is no doubt in my mind that he is one of the main reasons for Arsenal’s consistency during this campaign, and any extended absence could have a real impact on our challenge for silverware. Defensively solid, yet quick to add bite to the attack, Bacary has quickly established himself as a firm favourite with just about every Arsenal fan I know, and that’s a lot!
Our thoughts are with you Bacary, and we hope you return soon.
Win An Arsenal Opus With O2
Today I am delighted to feature another of the finalists in the O2 competition to win an Arsenal Opus. When I saw my own snap was up against ‘Arsenal Eyes’ I knew I was a beaten man. Let Marcia, who has submitted the image, give you a little of the background.
‘I am a North London born and bred Gooner, from a family of longstanding fanatical Arsenal supporters. My passion for Arsenal has grown and grown since my dad took me to my first game at Highbury 27 years ago when I was ten, from standing on a milk crate so that I could see from the North Bank to spending my time at the Grove, still with my dad and now my Junior Gooner Daniel.
I am a regular contributor to the Gooner fanzine as well as a keen amateur Arsenal photographer. My ‘Arsenal Eyes’ photograph is of Daniel, capturing the moment of pure excitement when he saw his first ever Arsenal tickets after collecting them from the Box Office, as well as his amazement at the stadium and the disbelief that we were actually going inside to see a match! This photograph is very special to me and I feel it portrays what it means to really be a Gunner.
The future supporters of Arsenal are the youth of today and whilst it would mean a great deal to me to win this competition it would mean even more to Daniel, so I hope you agree and are prepared to vote for him.’
I have to say that Marcia’s family background is not dissimilar to my own, so I wish her luck. The competition can be found by clicking here. It is possibly the only chance you will ever get to acquire your own Arsenal Opus, so go for it, and good luck.

Fantastic photo. It really captures beautifully what it means to be an Arsenal fan. Definitely the one that I’d choose if I were allowed to vote which I am not since I don’t reside in the UK.

When I go to London to attend my first Arsenal match at the Grove, I would look like that, too!
‘Holic have you established if Marcia has access to Arsenal TV at all?
I think it’s the fans forum tonight.
