Rams Butchered By Adebayor
Apr 28th, 2008 by 'holic
Finding a balance is sometimes very difficult. I, and my fellow bloggers, have been accused of arrogance by supporters of the vanquished on more than one occasion. Tonight I would love to crow about the quality of the Arsenal performance, and yet the experts on Setanta are putting it down to Derby being the poorest of the poor.
There is no doubt in my mind for an hour at least Derby were quick to challenge all over the park, but were unhinged by moments of defensive naivety. When they got back to 2-3 with just thirteen minutes remaining who wasn’t fearing an equaliser?
Of course the Derby fans have been given a lesson in objectivity as well. Cruel taunts to Emmanuel Adebayor, a second-half replacement for Robin van Persie (once again gone in the fetlock), were well and truly rammed back down their throats as he took his personal goal tally against the hosts this season to six.
In all honesty I felt for them at half-time. Unquestionably when we played it around they were made to labour, but having gifted Niklas Bendtner the opener they were probably worth the scrappy equaliser provided by McEveley. By the time the break arrived big Darren Moore had been caught out again and van Persie finished well as Adebayor prepared to replace him.
The arrival of Adebayor in the second-half gave us another dimension. We were extremely impressive, and I am not entirely sure that was solely down to the shortcomings of the opposition, as the experts later suggested.
Toure, Eboue, and Bendtner failed to add to the goal tally but after Adebayor had notched his first Theo Walcott missed a great opportunity to bury the contest. Earnshaw made us wonder briefly, but his extravagant dance to celebrate pulling the hosts back within a goal would come back to haunt him.
Theo made amends for his earlier miss with a wonderful strike before the Adebayor dance routines were exhibited in full following his double strikes in the closing nine minutes. The first of these, performed with his old mate ‘Tiger-feet’ Eboue, bore a striking resemblance to a parody of the Earnshaw boogie!
My pound had long since hit the deck. I don’t think the bookies pay out on the half-time score. Whisper it softly, I have lodged a shilling or two last night on a title triumph at 250-1. Yes, I know United and Chelsea have relatively easy games remaining, but only two each, and bums are squeaky. 250-1 in a three horse race is extremely generous, even though the thoroughbreds in front only have a couple of hurdles to cross.
Who would have thought nine months ago we would be going into the penultimate week of the season with a chance, albeit an absurdly slim one. Third place is secure. We are moving in the right direction. Sometimes, one or two of us tend to forget that.

First Guinness!
I know what you mean Dubs, but actually you are way, way behind…
😉
I for once thought that this game won’t be the worth staying up to watch (game from 2.55am to 5.00 am here) but something made me want to watch it and god bless I don’t regret at all.
Pure class and Arsenal way of playing football. Others can say whatever they want about how poor derby was but Arsenal was a class higher than any other team in the world in that game. Although it was dissapointing to let in 2 goals againts a poor derby which was quite serious matter we have at the back, upfront Arsenal was firing all the way till the end and although derby put everyone behind when Arsenal attacks, we still managed to score 6 beautiful goals and miss around 4-5 very very good chances.
The team spirit was great, Ade and Bert communicating on the pitch well, Eboue and Ade’s dances, passings and understandings on the pitch and at the end joking and having a lot of fun together!
2nd place is there to grab if Chelsea slips, Arsenal need to push all the way to the end like Fabregas said.
Arsenal Rocks!
Heh Dubs&”holic.
I’ll take the first coffee then.
Heh, ‘Tiger-feet’ Eboue, that’s neat.
Only got 100:1 when I went shopping. Still less of a silly bet than the lottery.
Fingers crossed eh !
Arsenal still 125-1 to win the league at PaddyPower
🙂
You know I’m so tired of all the sad, talentless, rhythmless people who attack Emmanueal Adebayor’s dancing. I think I even heard a commentator say “swift of foot but laking in grace/style” Thing is, he is a very good dancer. People who don’t get it I suppose just don’t like African music and dancing. You can’t teach rhythm, either you have it or you don’t and Adebayor has rhythm. Copying Earnshaw’s dance was brilliantly funny!
Some gooners are trashing our performance last night because of defensive errors and wastefulness, there’s the little matter of our “crap†team having had the best results at Pride Park than the other 3 invincible teams in the top 4. Check out these Derby results:
Derby-Chelsea in November at Pride Park: 0-2
Derby-Chelsea in March at the Bridge: 1-6
Derby-Man United in December at OT: 1-4
Derby-Man United in March at Pride Park: 0-1
Derby-Pool in September at Anfield: 0-6
Derby-Pool in December at Pride Park: 1-2
I HATE THE MAN U CUNTS..JUST HATE THEM..BUT THEY HAVE JUST GOT THROUGH TO THE FINALS OF THE CHAMPS LEAGUE WITH NOTHING BUT A FUCKING SOLID BACK 4 & A GREAT GK performance- …NOTHING ELSE.
To be honest Man u’s forwards were NO MATCH against Barcelona’s attack !!
BUT MAN U’s defence were a set of BIG BODYGUARDS or a high rise wall in front of GOAL..you just couldnt breach that..& NONE OF THOSE IN THAT BACK 5 including VIDIC ARE LEAVING MANCHESTER UNITED DURING The transfer window..
JUST goes to show that Man u will do anything to WIN trophies..& if it means payin an extra £10k a week to WES BROWN They will do it…
BUT we cant afford to pay Flamini an extra £10k..because we need to respect our wages structure..BULLSHIT !!!
FABregas says he was jealous watching other English teams in the semis & the finals..i wouldnt be surprised tommorow-if a player of his calibre- who should be relishing title glories- to come out & say i too wana win titles like Man u chelsea etc etc…So i’m leaving !
SAD !!!
Can somebody explain this to me-
WHY IS OUR RIGID WAGES STRUCTURE MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR TITLE AMBITIONS????
Quite simple really hoss. Man Utd have a massive debt, well over a billion dollars just to pay the Glazers costs of purchase. They are struggling to service that debt.
Arsenal has a debt of around half that, and a sixty thousand seater stadium to show for it. A sound business model ensure repayments are not a burden on the structure.
Of the top four clubs who do you think is operating to a sustainable financial model?
You may also have noticed that the basis of your arguments are gleaned entirely from rags and your own limited imagination , and not borne out by anything uttered by players or club. What a shame your brain isn’t as quick as your capslock finger.

So your sayin to continue operating a sustainable business model without going for any trophies?
So Mr Smart Ass- why not dissolve Arsenal & invest in a grocery store closest to you?
Man U has been in debt for ages- but have they collapsed? Have they lost their fan base? Are they in a better position to win titles than Arsenal?
What is Arsene Wenger’s aim at the start of the season- 3rd is it? & go trophyless?
So going by your smart suggestions, Mr Smart Ass, i feel Arsene Wenger should come out next season & say…look here my dear fans…
“Dont expect anything from us this season because Of the top four clubs we are operating the most sustainable financial model & A sound business model ensure repayments are not a burden on the structure !!!”
WHAT a joke you are… Mr Smart Ass…
Am not saying we should splash out billions & buy established players….but atleast keep the ones that we have cultivated..we brought up…READ MY POST AGAIN YOU ASS…i was talking about retention not acquisitions –
So you think only you know to talk about a business model & how to sustain & all dat bullshit…by retaining our players & therefore having better chances for success next season – will bring in more revenue to the club can also result in a sustainable business model, you dumbo !
Now, now, now. Gimme, gimme, gimme.
Welcome Dutch. Sorry about the delay, for some reason Akismet thinks you were spamming. I’ve given it a virtual smack in the mouth. I see Dale Carnegie has been posting again.
