Ade Feasts On West Ham As Gooner Harry Tells Porky Pies
Oct 26th, 2008 by 'holic
Without ever getting out of second gear Arsenal finally secured the points at Upton Park when Emmanuel Adebayor was summoned from the bench for the final twenty minutes or so. If that sounds mildly critical it is not intended to be. I thought Arsene Wenger manipulated the squad really intelligently and in the end his selection was justified.
For over an hour though the match was finely balanced. I thought we gave a controlled performance, having the lion’s share of the ball but perhaps not switching from back to front with the pace of Arsenal sides in years gone by.
We were perhaps hard done by when Robert Green caught the ball outside his area to deny Nicklas Bendtner a goalscoring opportunity but was not spotted by the officials. Of course the West Ham goalkeeper went on to have his customary great game against us, producing fine saves from Theo Walcott and Bendtner before the break, and Robin van Persie in the second-half.
He wasn’t the only stopper in great form though. At the other end Manuel Almunia was at his very best to deny Di Michele and Bellamy as the home side contributed to an absorbing watch. They had to work extremely hard though and as they started to tire Arsenal took charge.
Robin van Persie was denied only by the post as finally he found his range from a free-kick, and then the introduction of the rested Adebayor finally tipped the balance. The unfortunate Faubert added the final touch to Ade’s cross shot with a quarter of an hour to go.
The points were sealed in the final minute courtesy of a breathtaking piece of vision from Nicklas Bendtner. From the left-back position he fashioned a magnificent through-ball which Adebayor finished with some style.
As the final seconds ticked away I was contemplating the fact that a game that had never got out of hand had produced five bookings. All of them a little harsh I felt, and then Carlton Cole made a reckless challenge on Alexandre Song and the red card again seemed an over-reaction. Phil Dowd will doubtless argue that the game didn’t get out of hand because of his fussy performance.
With Chelsea and Manchester United dropping points over the weekend this has been a good couple of days for Arsenal. As indeed it has been for our neighbours who chalked up their first win just hours after parting company with their manager, two coaches, and director of football.
Tottenham’s visit on Wednesday will now have added spice. I am trying to work out how Harry Redknapp was miraculously converted from “I was a big Arsenal fan as a kid”, to “I followed Tottenham, I trained there as an 11-year-old, 12-year-old so I know the history of the club.” Sorry Harry, but your cover has already been blown. Good luck with your mission to administer the final humiliation at the Lane. Terry Neill did a good job there, George Graham tried a bit too hard, but you could surpass them!
More on that particular contest over the next couple of days. Cheers ‘holics.

First drink again…….
I have a red wine vibe going on today, so a large glass of your very finest please landlord.
And a cracking win today….very proud of the boys. Shoved it firmly up Andy Gray’s arsehole.
I’m soooooo gay
I’ll have an unedited drink.
Why a capital ‘A’ in ‘at’ in the first sentence?
lion’s share.
Is it really you, ‘holic?
Thanks Ollie. There were multiple lions and they were badly punctuated 😉
I’ll share a bottle of red with hertsgooner, if that’s all right squire…
Put it on my tab, there’s a good chap.
Cheers ‘holic
Yeah, what exactly IS Andy Gray;s effin problem?
He was willing West Ham a goal all day the fat lump!
An effin great 3 points which I thought wasn’t gonna come as we really let WEst ham into the game due to our really lethargic play, but fair play to the team.
Bring on the spuds and their Arsenal, no erm Spud supportin manager!
anyone else notice that ade didn’t even acknowledge niklas for his fantastic assist.
not to undermine his tidy taking of the goal, but let’s face it, the pass was 95% of that goal and ade didn’t even look his way and reacted like he scored a wonder goal. something i find very unfair. it’s been widely reported of him doing this before like that wonder goal vs liverpool set up by theo.
i think that ade has a very serious ego problem and needs to get over himself if he wants to improve as a player.
great game all in all, very entertaining, very open. good defense, as much as i love toure, i want sagna in for eboue and another chance given to silvestre since he was good today. also song was really good, motm in my opinion. i really hope he starts in dm vs spurs.
None of the other players went to Nik did they?
Bit harsh there fella!
Nicklas Bendtner is simply class A! i am glad he start to play well with Adebayor.
pint of ade piss for all the haters today,me included lol
ryan stop bitching, you sound like a girl,he is paid to put the ball in the net or help someone else put the ball in the net, simple, thats it,same as the bendtner, they aint gotta hold hands an have a mutual wank ever regardless if nik sets himup or vice versa! would u have prefered he refused to chase niks pass?????
beer, vodka and baileys cocktail please al.
We are starting to look like a team with purpose………….oh well then we will probably get hammered by spurs !!!!
I`m a fan of Harry Rednapp and I wish him well(after Wednesday) I would also have liked to have seen him in charge of England, but that`s just me.
I can`t see Spurs beating Arsenal at Ashburton Grove ( I seem to have difficulty in spelling the other word) but I do think Harry would have it in mind not to come away empty handed and their confidence was certainly helped by this win. What odds a draw 1-1.?
Very nice article!
This rotation thing is working well, and the thought of having everyone back by January gives me great comfort.
Witness us counter attacking the opponent’s counter attacks, a joy to behold!
i say dat ade shud not have scored the second goal… we shud have won 1-0 with the own goal!!!
Why?
Bcoz this was makin’ me thinking about an arsenal team which had dave seaman, henry, ljunberg, etc.. playing and if i remember well the match was west ham itself and we won by an own goal from repka….
we were just too gud these days!!!
Nice little summary there ‘holic. When you said Harry was telling porkies, I thought you meant the spin he put on his transfer, claiming that Portsmouth could not afford to lt the £5m transfer fee for his services go lightly, when in fact, Peter Storrie poo pooed that line when he claimed the move was all down to Redknapp’s own decision.
Anyway, I’ll have a lime and soda as I need to go to work.
Cheers!
Whenever Thicko Gray talks, my sound gets turned down…….like most homes in Britain. Why Sky continue to employ him I do not know. He tries to make a simple game difficult to justify his existence. Retire him when his contract ends, Sky, and do us all a favour.
I hope we hammer them Wednesday, show them how good Harry really is.
By the way, ‘Spurs – The Wonder Years’ is now available in shops priced at £200. That’s £5 for the tape, and £195 for the Betamax player.
Sorry…lame I know 🙂 But it feels SO good!
I thought Pompey was ‘Arry’s “last club in football”?? The lying cunt. His mum’s a whore!
