Cut And Paste Job, I've Seen It All Before.
Dec 13th, 2008 by 'holic
Obviously time is at a premium for me at present so I should be grateful that Arsenal produced a number of ‘groundhog day’ moments at the Riverside which enable me to compile a report by cutting and pasting from previous match reports.
‘What increased the embarrassment was the fact that Arsenal had surrendered all width in order to field four central midfielders’ (v Stoke, November 1st).
‘Emmanuel Adebayor took advantage of some slack defending to apply the finishing touch’ (v Wigan, last week!)
‘One unlikely mistake later the home side were back in it. Gael Clichy, heralded before the game by the Sky Sports pundits, was guilty of a momentary lapse of concentration’ (v Man City, Feb 2nd)
‘the man Gallas was supposed to be marking escaped his attention’ (Take your pick, it’s every other week now!)
‘Aliadiere helped himself’ (v Boro, March 15th)
‘In the cold hard light of day the Sunday papers will be commenting on a one-all draw.’ (v Sunderland, Oct 4th)
‘once again they reverted to the lacklustre and spineless mode that threatens a top-four berth at the seasonโs end.’ (v Villa, Nov 15th)
‘I’m going to get pissed’ (Me, every Saturday).

All the best, ‘holic
Evening, ‘holic. I’ll have a bucket of slops please ๐
Cheers, ‘holic. Take care. Here’s to easier times.
What they all said, apart from the bit about the slops
Groundhog Day sums it up beautifully, ‘holic. *sighs*
I feel like one of those hamsters running around on one of those wheels, watching Arsenal these days.
Thanks all.
Never mind, beat Liverpool next week and we’re only five points behind them ๐
Right, who’s with me in leaving the AK brigade??
I’ve been a firm member since ’01, but all this youth development thing is seriously screwing us over…
Can understand why he doesnt buy a CB, we have Nordveidt
Can understand why he doesnt buy a DM, Song/Denilson will come good
Can understand why he doesn’t buy a CF, Ed’s back soon and Vela will come good
But our lack of cover on the wings is absolutley atrocious…
Been waiting for Rosicky to get over his injuries for about 24 months now (really), and Nasri is great but seems equally unlucky/injury prone, Walcott shouldnt be relied upon for a whole season.
Why didn’t we buy Ribery!!!! Fuck!!!
I know this is a pointless rant cos Arsene won’t sign shit, but how were ever going to cause ‘Boro problems with Diaby and Denilson out wide?? Am I the only person who’s going crazy!?!?
Ringaldo, couldn’t agree with you more.
On yesterday’s display, Diaby wouldn’t have got in my Sunday league team. He can’t tackle, can’t pass and makes unbelievably bad decisions. On the plus side, Johan is starting to look good at CB.
We need width FFS; surely one of our tricky youngsters (i.e. Wilshere) can be risked until we get our injured wingers back. Diaby is a liability!!!
I want to hibernate until next August and start again..
Difficult to be overly positive about today, but I’m not slashing my wrists just yet. The team’s confidence is at a very low ebb. That’s for all to see and the main reason why so many passes are going astray and why so many gilt edge chances are going astray at the moment. The sun will come out again though, guys.
I thought M’boro played us well today, but it should have been 3-1 at half time for the Gunners. Robin van Persie the guilty party this time around. If he’d converted two very easy chances, you lot would be hailing AW as a recovered messiah rather than crying in your beer.
Must say, I thought Vela for Diaby to give us width on the left was a MUST around 60 mins. I would have replaced Denilson with Neutron Jack or Ramsey around the same time. Denilson is many good things, but he’s NOT a right winger.
I agree though that AW needs to buy. The bench talent (potential) is superb, but the bench strength is just too, too low. I think too that Gallas is past his sell buy date. Start playing Song at centreback with Djourou. Forget Willie and Silvestre.
I wonder if L’pool and ManU fans are as close to suicide as you lot after their draws against easy teams home and away?? And they don’t even have Eduardo’s return to look forward to. Come on you Gunners. we’re not out of it yet!
Agree with a lot of what has been said. Do not agree with Steve D about Diaby. His best position by far is in the middle. He needs a run there before he can be judged properly. Thought he played in fits and starts today. Some nice bits of skill followed by some terrible decisions.
Ringaldo, agree completely re Ribery. He is almost like for like with Pires and would do wonders for us. We have lacked width for ages. Rosicky I really do not think we will see again. Nasri is in his first season but has been clattered again. Theo is still jut a kid but clearly has a shoulder problem. After that we have nothing left wide. Watching today I really can not remember when I last saw an Arsenal side with so little width and pace.
Don’t want to be too harsh on Denilson. This is his first full season and he has improved greatly. However I do not think he is good enough just yet. But his day will come.
Various reports about big changes in January. I will believe it when I see it.
Best wishes to the ‘holics…..
Methinks Wenger has lost the bearing already by experimenting week-in and out on the pretext of waiting for the injured players to come back and your aspiring kids to come of age. Wenger the Dreamer, Wake Up.
Totally agree about the lack of substitutions around the 60/65 minute mark. The canary booted Bendtner would not have been my choice either, I’d have put a couple of the hungrier and dare I say more passionate youth players on – Ramsey for Song and Vela for Diaby. I think the ‘first team’ lacks movement and desire for the ball. At times you get a feeling of ‘I don’t want it’ when some of the players get the ball, especially when the ball gets given away cheaply and without any thought for the where the returm pass was going.
Anyway, that’s for Wenger to sort out. I can understand his unwillingness to splash out on players as his cheque book is cursed. I think Pires was probably his last real successful signing.
All the best ‘holic!
PS. And by successful signing I mean a finished article player that can slot straight into the team.
Funny how people throw the word “genius” around. Arsene Wenger a genius? Then what will u call Ferguson, Mourinho or Hiddink??
Einstein/Newton/DaVinci were genius – are u comparing Wenger to those elites? Look, this team sucks shit and everyone and their blind pets can see this but not Wenger. Look we dont have to go through this. Personally he’s lost the plot, got too comfortable (more like a board member).
Look – Hleb was a huge loss, we have no natural wingers, our keeper is the worst out of the top 4, Eboue,Denilson,Almunia,Song etc. are starters on an Arsenal team. And we call a manager who puts this kinda of ‘quality’ on a team with EPL & CL ambitions a genius. You call him a geius when he player 4 creativeless central midfielders when he has better options on the bench ???? What a joke!!!
We can start booing Wenger so something is done or wait another 5 years and see how “great” Eboue,Almunia,Gallas,Dennilson,Song, Diaby will turn out.
Genius?? Please don’t insult my intelligence. TV pundits just throw that word around…..
pay-per-view – that’s TV pundits for you – talentless, disposable comment, hyperbole using no marks.
What Snail said in 14&15, well 17 too.
I THINK E SHOULD NOT CRITICIZE ARSENE WENGER THIS WEEK AT LEAST.APART FROM LIVERPOOL THAT PLAYED HULL CITY AT HOME,I THINK WE PRETTY MUCH PLAYED THE TOUGHEST MATCH OF ALL THE SO CALLED BIG FOUR AND HAD THE SAME RESULT AS THEY HAD.IMAGINE CHELSEA STUGGLING TO GET A POINT OFF WEST HAM AT STAMFORD BRIDGE.MAN U STRUGGLING AT THE WHITE HART LANE AND LIVERPOOL COMING FROM 2 GOALS TO DRAW AT ANFIELD AGAINST HULL.I THINK I SUPPORT WENGER ON THIS ONE.ACCORDING TO HIM THE LEAGUE HAS GROWN STRONGER THIS YEAR.LIVERPOOL DRAWING AT HOME TO STOKE,WEST HAM,HULL,FULHAM AND STILL TOP OF THE LEAGUE.THIS COULD NOT HAPPEN IN PREVIOUS SEASONS.YES AT THE MOMENT ARSENAL DONT HAVE WIDTH IN THE TEAM.BUT THIS CAN BE RECTIFIED IN THE JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW. Behold i present to all fans of arsenal the answer to the problem on the wing.A BRAZILIAN plying his trade in the french league .LILLE METROPOLE to be precise. He is MICHEL BASTOS.A LEFT WINGER WHO HAS 7 GOALS[3 freekicks,2 heavy shots,1 header,1 tap in against marseille] and 5 ASSISTS.JUDGED TO HAVE THE STRONGEST SHOT IN THE FRENCH LEAGUE AND EVEN SCORED DIRECTLY FROM A CORNER KICK LAST SEASON.WITHOUT SAYING MUCH THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT ARSENAL NEEDS.
I think we are frenched up enough. with talent like agbonglahor and Ashley young around i would look closer to home.
Snail. Sagna?
True enough GaryC – a much overlooked player.
Happy 500th ‘holic! Up the Arse! I read Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby last week and it was good learning how miserable Arsenal was back then (i’m pretty young u see..) certainly puts things into perspective – especially considering the long-suffering of the loyal fans. ๐
