Time To Iron Out The Hammers
Jan 30th, 2009 by 'holic
West Ham fans will be the first to understand what I mean when I say it is not very often that the Irons travel to Arsenal with a significant bit of form behind them. The first team to defeat us at the Grove don’t go on many runs without defeat. Consistency has been a fairweather friend to the East London outfit down the years.
So on Saturday the seven match unbeaten run engineered by Gianfranco Zola will be pitted against the nine match unbeaten Premiership run currently being enjoyed by Arsene Wenger. Don’t mention the ‘d’ word, (draw, not doom you pillock!).
We know what to expect, don’t we? Robert Green will play out of his skin against us, because he always does. Similarly former Gunner Matthew Upson and Mark Noble, so often linked with us, can be expected to catch the eye.
Arsene Wenger’s press conference at lunchtime did not reveal any significant team news, dominated as it was by dead-end questions about transfers that may or may not happen, and tedious queries about the potential loss of fourth place that also may or may not happen.
“Players who may come in do nothing for you”. Le Boss was insistent that those we already have on the books are far more important at the moment, and you know what he means. The distraction of the window must not be allowed to impact the side that will be hunting three vital points in another derby fixture.
I want new players at the club as much as the next man, although Arshavin would not be my first priority. For now though it is more important that the eleven selected tomorrow produce more than just an hour of control, which is what we seem to have done for the last month or so.
The ‘holic pound is precariously perched. I’m looking at 1-0 or 2-1 to the home side. I would like to know if Gallas or Toure will be playing, because that would make my mind up. I will probably have to have a pop at both scorelines. Both are on offer at around 6 or 7 to 1. Draw at half-time with Arsenal to win at around 100/30 looks mighty tempting also.
Anyway, as ever, have a great day those who are going. The rest of you who will be seeking out increasingly difficult to find streams are welcome to pop back here and leave any good ones in the comments. Have a great weekend ‘holics.

Holic, for once my bones tell me you’re being just a smidgeon over cautious. I think Arsenal are due a blinding home game, mixed with and heady cocktail of inspiration & perspiration and a “rub of the green” thrown in for good measure. Match is on TV here and I’m going for a 3-1 home win and copious glasses of guinness. Adebayor’s luck turns and he gets two. Vela features in the final 20 mnutes and inspires the third.
Enjoy! Come on you Gunners.

“We have spent less than any other team, we make money, we make profit. Iām very optimistic.” These three lines from wenger say it all really
re: Steve’s post: yes, le Boss’s press conferences are becoming so bizzarrely predictable and defensive you wonder why they bother to give the reporters the bus fare to get there. But Bergkamp’s right too; we are overdue a game when the rub of the green went seriously in our direction.
Come on you reds! A large Glenmorangie for me please.
Here’s a stream…

Oh well, two points dropped when you consider the Villa score, but West Ham came for a goalless draw and they go away with one.
A bit frustrating that we don’t start at home with more attacking intent. I’d have put someone else’s house on Robin starting. Adebayor seems to be getting lazier by the match. Why he doesn’t attack the ball in the box more is beyond me. He seems to want the ball passed to his feet without coming towards it and it invariably gets intercepted. On a brighter note I thought both Denilson and Diaby showed well today. Not sure why he didn’t give Ramsey a run out for the last ten minutes, and he’s probably wondering what he has to do to get a kick.
I hate to sound reactionary but I think we should sell Adebayor. He’s done nothing since his pay rise.
Off out now, so enjoy the evening as best you can.
Cheers!
I haven’t seen today’s game yet but I am wonering why the hell Bentner started and why he didn’t use Robin until 68th minute. Seems bizzare!!!!
