It's Singalong With Tango Time Again
Mar 12th, 2010 by 'holic
So a fortnight after our last away game brought three points and an overwhelming sense of injustice, we are off to face a side who are fighting for Premiership survival and will not be afraid to ‘leave a foot in’. Throw into the mix that they are managed and coached by footballs equivalent of the Krankies and you have the makings of a tense early evening at the KC.
It looked as if Captain Tango might be steering his sloop to safety when Hull took four points off Chelsea and Manchester City, but they have since been holed right on the waterline by three successive defeats culminating in last weeks five goal demolition at Everton. It is starting to look likely that Brown’s solo performance on the last day of the season will be a rendition of Brenda Lee’s classic
“I’m sorry, so sorry, that I was such a fool”
It’s good to see that Brown and Horton have developed a fighting spirit in the ranks as a way of attempting to survive the inevitable drop. Still, anybody who gives Barmby a slap is alright with me. Well done Jimmy Bullard. I hope he didn’t mess up your handsome boat!
Bullard’s return to the side is one bright spot for Hull, who will make a late decision on the homicidal maniac that is Stephen Hunt. Craig Fagan also returns after suspension.
Arsenal once again have barely any choices to make. Cesc Fabregas, missing against Porto, is unlikely to be fit for this one, and since Tuesday the extension on the treatment room has been filled by Sol Campbell, Bacary Sagna, and Tomas Rosicky. Alexandre Song completes his two match suspension for having his shirt pulled by Rory Delap.
Assuming they all miss out then surely only Emmanuel Eboue and Mikael Silvestre can plug the gaps in the back four. If Samir Nasri’s hamstring holds up he should feature with Abou Diaby and probably Denilson in midfield. Theo Walcott will come in for Rosicky up front, one would imagine.
The ‘holic pound, on an unlikely hat-trick, is very tentatively poised. Tentative I say because that side looks like they will take time to win the battle that will surely face them from the off. Song and Campbell will both be big misses for such a contest. We had to come from a goal down at Stoke, and I can see a repeat here. So my pound is with Paddy Power at 15/2 that we win after going behind.
So, there we are then. All ready for another nail-biting clash. As usual, if you are going, give it loud and give it proud. I know you will, because you always do. At least those of us in the UK with ESPN will get a decent view instead of chasing streams for a nice change.
Thank You ‘Holics
Can I just take this opportunity to thank those of you who have purchased your Armoury stone via the advert on this site, and remind anybody who hasn’t yet purchased one that they are quickly running out. The only option remaining at under a hundred pounds is the white double stone, so act fast if you have yet to purchase yours.
Have a good one, ‘holics.

The veteran Hull midfielder George Boateng added: “I’m sorry because I missed it, I wasn’t there. I would have paid to watch it!”
I”ll drink to that
Boateng was talking about the Bullard Barmby incident which apparently was witnessed by over a 100 members of the local Womens Institute
Rumour has it the handbags were real 😉
Handbags in front of an audience of Women’s Institute members. At least these twats have got a sense of humour.
You beat me to the handbag line….
Well done Jimmy Bullard. I hope he didn’t mess up your handsome boat!
Hahahahahaha,
Brilliant ‘holic, fair play to you mate.
Everybody has the right to be ugly, old, but Jimmy boy abuses that privilege, and then some.
If beauty is only skin deep then he must be inside out.
Sorry Paddy. Low hanging fruit, and all that…

I bet their changing room is a bundle of laughs right now
I think the Holic pound is safe again. We give away a silly goal then at half time Wenger tells them to relaese the hand brake and 5-1 will be the final score.
I dont mind these games as much as last season, we have done so well against the lower teams this season.
Cesc wont be playing so he has enough time to get a good greeny together to leave on Browns forehead as he helps Nasri carry away the match ball for all to sign.
The Hull calender has only 10 players in it, the month before Bullard they have a picture of the elephantman just so you wont be as frieghtened when you turn the page to see Bullard.
Here`s to a good win.
Come on you Gunners !
Heh ‘holic. Good stuff mate.
Local news in hull is breaking a story saying Brown has been sacked!
me can see another 3-1 at Hull, Hull scoring either first or second but Arsenal then taking control.
I don’t think Silvestre is a bad player. We play attacking style with all the players pushing forward and the defenders tend to over play the ball all the time. That makes us very valnurable to counter attacks. So any back four is good enough against Hull. The main thing for tomorrow is to keep focus and killer instincts when their goal is at our mercy.
Well in ‘holic!
Let’s cunt these cunts in the bastard!
When tension is high,
Eboue had better well be nigh!
Nice write up ‘holic.
I don’t think Hull will be a push-over and without Gallas, Campbell + Song, I think we might concede a couple. I’ve got the ‘Jack pound’ on Arsenal to win 4-2 @ 40/1 with William Hill.
Hull are languishing second from bottom because they aren’t that good, I reckon we’ll come away from their place with a 3-1 win, and hopefully no more injuries.
I’d like to keep to tuesday’s Porto formula.Early goal and a clean sheet
Sorry for your pound Holic but I’ve got a dodgy ticker and we’re due a few stress free games
What a difference a year of maturity makes! We are missing our entrire spine of starters (Gallas, Song, Captain Fab and RvP) and our first-choice right-back, that’s half the team and the only debate we have among ourselves is the margin of our victory. Great turnaround from last year if you think about it.
I’m with 1971. We need not only to win but to catch up on the goal difference so we may ship one or two but I think we’ll try to score as much as we can. If NB52, Arshavin and Walcott have the right boots on we should trounce them.
@Mack Daniel: indeed. He’s certainly on par with Sol, although Sol is doing better as an elder. His attempt at a “circle of brothers” after the end of the Porto game is just another example of what he brings to the team.
Between the ‘holic pound winnings and the Armoury stone advert proceeds, our man seems to be rolling in it at the moment. Long may it continue as what’s good for ‘holic is good for Arsenal and vice versa. I always get nervous when people predict easy wins away from home. There is almost never any such beast, and particularly not when the opposition is in a relegation scrap. This may be a real nail biter and any win would be a major major step forward in our title chase. I will celebrate heartier if some of the more optimistic predictions come through but I’ll say 2-1 with Bendtner getting the decider after Arshavin’s opener.
Song will be the big miss. Denilson cannot deliver the same power and dominance physically speaking. If we get our noses in front then it might get easier but Hull will be there for the scrap, and dont expect any protection from the ref, it’ll be like Stoke all over again.
Evening all. Hull are second bottom for the very reason that they have been pants this year. If it was no for the fact that poor old Pompey have been mega pants then I have no doubt they would be bottom. I now we all get a little nervous these days but there is nothing to suggest anything other than a Gunners victory. We should be able to take massive amounts from both the Stoke and Porto games and bring them to this one. Our quality is head and shoulders above Hull. We also now have the fight and togetherness to add to our game.
With the injuries the side will pick itself. If we can stay injury free then I am looking for a convincing victory. Then hopefully Bullard will chin Barmby again and we can all get a glance.
Bendtner fed by Theo and Arshavin. Nasri probing. Denilson and Diaby brining up the rear. Not our best but god enough for me.
Time to believe my fellow Gooners. 4 – 1 to the Arsenal.
Keep the faith.
Phil Brown is a cock.
A big Guatanemo Bay pyjama party cock.
Get it right up them.
Against Everton they were piss poor – lets take at least 4 of them.
Holic, a pint of John Smiths please.
PS – isn’t it funny how the latest spin when players kick the crap out of one another these days, it is because “it shows they care”. Yeh right.
Just back from a long trip to China/Thailand. The locals there wanted every single minute of my time and so, for once, Goonerholic wasn’t an essential part of my daily diet. A lot of catching up to do therefore (completed) and no surprise to see a whole slew of excellent work from the Guvnor while I was away. Thanks for the sustained quality, Holic.
Of-course, I didn’t miss any of the games. From the leg-break heartache at Stoke to Pump It Up v Porto. From, “should have been 10” v Burnley to “so B52 CAN score!” last Tuesday.
The hours were peculiar and the commentators were completely unintelligible. But strangely, even in Thai and Mandarin, to a man, they made more sense than the wee Glesca undertaker, Lulu MacSparry.
I like the collective optimism ahead of tomorrow’s game. Hull will be wound up like rubber bands and it will be a day for cool heads. Even with many absentees, our class should tell. It’s not a given though. We’ll need to put the work in.
I sincerely hope that Diaby, Nasri and Denilson can all make it onto the field. This season, our performance in the mid-field has either won it or lost it for us. These three can carry the day in the absence of the man from Catalan and our excellent lead Song singer.
Enjoy the game, all. Singha/Tsingtao mix for me please barman.
BtM, what can I say. You have been missed by many. Keep us in the loop next time you vanish 😉
Welcome back BtM!
I thought you were on holidays but you know `Holic, he’s the worrying type. He thought you’d been abducted or worse.
Singha it is then.
BtM you had better not run off during our stretch run, or we could be in trouble!
I think of those mentioned “possible”, Sagna should pull through. Same from Nasri and Arshavin (not missing an open goal though) and a confident Bendtner should see us through.
Oh and…
Emaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabeeeeeeeeeel Eboueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
Emaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabeeeeeeeeeel Eboueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
Emaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabeeeeeeeeeel Eboueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
Tango, Tango, what’s the score! Are your luvvies mates travelling?
I’m sceptical about the ‘holic pound for once, I don’t think we’ll go behind.
But a win in the end is all that matters to me.
Cheers, I’ll have an Irish coffee please.
I’m sceptical about the ‘holic pound for once
For once?
FOR ONCE?
You’re mad if you follow it regularly 🙂
Although I will try and calculate later what we would have lost to a pound stake each game. Maybe tomorrow…
I see/hear lately, from the press, Arsenal TV guests, other blogs – tho’ not this one – that the Arsenal fans are getting behind the team more, because a trophy is in sight. While this is probably partly true, it is also nice to think that fans with a longer term perspective than those who have supported only through the more recent Wenger trophy years, are appreciating what is being achieved here, whether or not we lift siverware at the end of it. A new training centre, a new stadium, a new team built without mega-millions, all achieved by a manager who constantly behaves with intelligence and humility.
Arsene Wenger has his frustrations, but as the number of clubs faced with dire financial problems and winding-up orders grows, and mega-spending Real Madrid fail to win a knock-out round of the CL for the 6th year running, maybe we can afford oursellves a look at the club with some pride, whether or not we lift the desired – by all – trophy.
As we watch pictures this weekend of a snarling, puffing, screaming Fat Sam, and an equally despicable Phil Orange, maybe we will ALL be thankfull for what we have. Come on REDS!
Nice perspective there Trev. I’ll have a glass of red too please batman.
Thank the lord Bergkamp for that. Joint top again. 5 straight wins in the league now. Who wants it?
