Arsene To Gamble On Pick And Mix
Oct 24th, 2011 by 'holic
Back in February the Carling Cup was the first competition we departed in the 2010-2011 season. Three weeks later we were out of the FA Cup and Champions League as well. There is still an unanswered question as to whether we have recovered from that last gasp disaster at Wembley. It would do no harm if we were to progress beyond the fourth round tie against Bolton that is now less than twenty-four hours away, in a biting the hair of the dog that bit you kind of way.
Some would suggest, and I’ll not argue at this point, that the League Cup provides the best chance of putting some silverware on the sideboard. Despite that it is a fair bet we will go with whatever squad players are available who didn’t face Stoke, plus some of the next generation of youngsters. They will be tested. Bolton arrive here after winning comfortably at Villa Park in the third round. You know Owen Coyle’s side will come and give it a go.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see possible call-ups for young full-backs Nicos Yennaris and Jernade Meade, both of whom featured in the reserves defeat at West Brom last Tuesday. That night they were outside a pairing of Sebastien Squillaci and Ignasi Miquel, and that four may only change if Thomas Vermaelen is thought ready to start a competitive fixture having joined the pre-match training session today (Monday).
Arsene in his pre-match interview hinted at starts in midfield for Emmanuel Frimpong and Francis Coquelin. It is likely that Tomas Rosicky will slot in ahead of them and skipper the side. Le Boss also said Ju Young Park will play at some stage, so he may feature in a front three with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on one side, and either Ryo Miyaichi or Yossi Benayoun on the other.
The key may well be how solid we are defensively. It is human nature I suppose to be nervous about a new-look back four, and I hope the lads come out and give a solid account of themselves. I’m going for third time lucky with the ‘holic pound. 2-1 to the Arsenal is favourite with the bookies, so I will grab a piece of that at sevens. I have to say though that Bolton fans would be mad not to have a few bob on their own team at 5/1 against. How on earth are they that long against the side we are likely to field?
If you are going, then have a good night. Those of us not that lucky will, I suspect, find streams hard to come by, if not impossible. For the second League Cup tie running we may be relying on the ten o’clock showing on Arsenal Player for our fix. My thoughts on the game may therefore be delayed until Wednesday evening. We’ll play it by ear tomorrow.
Be lucky, ‘holics.

Another smashing performance from the Ox is on the cards.

First.!!
Impossible.!!
Apologies Clive. Considering the amount of work you put in at the sweeper position you more than deserve the plaudits. It looks like your blistering header that was headed for the bottom corner took a slight deflection off my shin.
Third’ll do me. You’ll get another chance to come first Clive after the Notlob game π
…make that 4th then
Young Guns saying Vermaelen is going to play – I guess it makes sense for him to do 45 mins at LB, not a bad way to get a feel for playing – but I guess he’s not ready for Chelsea and then why play him for West Brom since all that does is give Belgium the chance to pick him for internationals? Get him in for Marseille though, since Djourou at RB isn’t deal. Wonder if TV5 or Santos would be better at flipping to the right…
Thought so.!!
2nd.!!!
Bollocks.!!
Who remembers Runners Up.. Who.??
I’m confident we can beat Bolton,Coyle won’t bring his A team,he has too much to worry about at the bottom of the PL.
He won’t want a Cup run distracting his players, they have to dig themselves out of a big hole before christmas,so i am tipping 3 nil to the Arse.
TS from previous post,
My boots are Dubbined to the max, just aching to connect with Terry’s left testicle, before driving through and rupturing the groin.
Perfectly legitimate tackle Ref,i was going for the Ball.!!!
Chers
The Sweeper
I just hope Wenger realises Arsenal are not playing in the Spanish league.IMHO,Barcelona and RM will struggle in the epl such is the speed and tough tackling.
Three of the last Man City’s goals were scored from breakaways. The speed of the counter attack caught the defenders flat footed.
What I am saying is if the gunners pass a hundred times before shooting, against teams like MC,they could be in trouble.
I am not convinced the team turned the corner. Beat Chelsea and then maybe we can say that.
Top ten!!!!!
Re: Giant @6: Flipping to the right? An altogether unsavoury prospect for well nigh anybody. π
Unlucky Clive. A worthy effort nonetheless.
Despite what Wenger says,Arsenal could be construed as a one man team.RVP scored two goals and one gets the impression he is indispensable.
The problem is teams may get two players to stifle him .Then what? This reminds me of the time when Henry and Wright were the principal scorers. If you were to analyse the stats, they would show when these two guys had an off day,Arsenal will similarly be affected.
Btw I believe there is no place in the modern game for blundering match officials. Arsenal have been hard done by some of these officials. I believe Chelsea should have been awarded a penalty. The ref in this game was clearly below par and should be retired.
Re: Clive @7 It is good to see you in such good humor despite the grave disappointment re: @2. π
It must be a source of great comfort knowing the Secure Unit and VC are there in case of hiccups. π
Now to read ‘holic’s match preview (previously promised to be among the shortest ever but apparently not living up to the bill).
Benayoun or Miyaichi? Yennaris and Meade at the fullback positions? These would have appeared imponderable propositions even a few short weeks ago for just about anybody but Arsene Wenger but that is what makes things exciting, and particularly following the Arsenal at this point in time. There’s competition for places and high spirits in abundance now that the dead wood has been cleared and the unwilling speared and placed on the spit. Come on Arsenal!!!

Not only Tabs has gone missing,BTM has gone AWOL as well.
2 of our most lucid,erudite posters,temporarily absent.
Shame
Cheers
The Sweeper.
Sixteenth !!! Now that takes timing π
Cheers Clive, that just looks like sour grapes to me !
As my gastro-enterologist told me !
BtM is swanning around Asia, Clive. TaBS is an altogether more worrying case. π
I’m glad to be going, almost returned my tickets but fate conspired against me (and TfL).
Anyway, hopefully the Ox puts in another cracker of a performance like against Shrewsbury in the 3rd round.
I was in the North Bank when he scored his first goal for us, hopefully he’ll put another in facing the Clock End this time! :p
21st – which happens to be the minute we’ll score our first tomorrow en-route to that 2-1 win. Scorer – Rosicky
First chance to drop in since Sunday’s game.
I made it to The Tollie at 12.20 on Sunday – only outside by the railings, as 7 year old daughter was with me – and checked the usual, and other umbrellas, but no sign of any known faces at all.
Were you all inside, or hidden by some other umbrella – or just saw me coming ?!
7 year old will be with me again for the Marseille game, so will await the next one. Any West Brom action planned ?
Think Tomas can still do this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0-hyWPeGJA ?
Why does it seem so long ago? (Don’t say cos it was!)
All there Trev, as Lars, TS, Snowy, and Ollie will vouch for.
They’re all bad influences π
‘holic, Tim may be onto something with Rosicky scoring first. I wouldn’t sneeze at the likely odds, either…
‘Holic @19 – yes indeed, Tabs is a big worry.
If you’re around, just a brief re-assurance would be more than welcome.
Orf to sleep, perchance to dream.
G’night all.
What is it with this subspecies of 7 year old daughters? Trev too?? π
Re: Tim: Great clip of Rosicky’s goal. I can’t remember him ever striking one like that for Arsenal, but tomorrow could be the day. π
Re: Clive @16. You are so right about Tabs and BtM being missed. What they offer in quality I can only attempt to reach in quantity. π But they would beat me in that too if I didn’t break my drinks into little pieces each time. π
bt8bbgfg – indeed, me too. She’s a veteran of about 14 games now too – and knows what’s going on.
On Sunday, when Whelan / Wilkinson ? was yellow carded, she turned to me and said,
“Pity that wasn’t number 18, ‘cos he would have been off!”
True story. (no not him – we missed him at The Tollie) π
As we were visited by a few Stokies last week, it might be interesting for one of them – should they chance by again – to try and justify a little piece of behaviour during Sunday’s match, which I don’t recall seeing referred to in any reports. Apologies if I have missed it.
Having let the ball run out of play right in front of the Stoke *fans, none other than Aaron Ramsey turned just in time to launch himself – or be launched, couldn’t be certain from my vantage point – into the air, to avoid an attempted assault by the hyper-dribbling, mouth-gaping, knuckle-dragging specimen that is Dean Whitehead.
I thought my train home was late, but this challenge was in a whole other league of it’s own.
The Stoke *fans threw their arms in the air – a new position for most of them – and cheered their second loudest cheer of the day. Their joy could presumably only have been enhanced, had their number 18 succeeded in breaking Aaron’s leg for a second time.
They are as incompetent as human beings as Lee Mason was as a referee.
A season ticket at the Britannia must be a thing of true misery.
*fans – insert any fitting noun of your choice
Bad influence…. me???
Trev, big shame about Saturday. I didn’t get to The Tollie until a little after 12:30. We may have narrowly missed each other. Believe it or not, I was keeping an eye out for you and your daughter.
Will be back for Marseille, see you and your daughter then?
TS – off work this week, hence the extra late presence here, but yes will try before the Marseille game.
I’m working ’til 5, but should just be able to make it.
If you could remove your trousres and lie face down, i’ll definitely be able to recognise you . . . .
oops, sorry π
That was, naturally, strictly a professional reference . . π
And it’s G’night from me.
Trev – Any chance you’re talking about Arteta, not Aaron? I couldn’t remember it happening to Aaron.
If that’s what you’re referring to, then yes, it was absolutely horrible and irritating.
What a redundant team. Why are they even playing in the EPL and not the Rugby League?
I have only a passing knowledge of some of the reserves but will Meade really be getting a run out at left back? Is he ready?
Maybe a possible back four could be Yennaris, Squillaci, Vermaelen and Miquel at left back. Or even Miquel at Center with Vermaelen at Left Back….
We might even get Oxlade starting with FrimCoq in the middle and Benayoun and Park plus Chamakh up front.
Also, I was asking how come we were playing reserve games at Colney behind closed doors but nobody answered. Anybody know why?
Hola Holics,
Sips tea to the tune of “how dry I am”
Just read Kolo is looking to move to PSG for playing time.
Since the subject is defensive am I the only one who would be amenable to his return if only teporarily?
Sorry I meant temporarily.
(I knew it looked odd)
LCG, isn’t Kolo older than Rip Van Winkle now?
CoR, Kolo will be fine. That drug suspension was only 1/2 a season, not anything like the 20 year nap of RVW (attention, I didn’t say RVP!).
If he needs more pep, Kolo should be able to get by with sipping some Cola. There should be a song in this, somewhere. π
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rip_Van_Winkle
And I wouldn’t mind seeing Kolo around again, either. Kolo at Arsenal without Gallas could be a happy fella. π
@Bt8BBGFG
Ahhh yes a second life without the old nemesis.
I dunno CoR he’s 30 now but I’m sure he’s a darn sight faster than Sol was and HE did a fair job in the pinch.
No matter I’m sure we wouldn’t meet his wages without him taking a cut or Man$ity paying part. But the tought gave me a warm fuzzy.
It was either that or this tea.
Hahaha, no way Kolo is only 30! He was surely over 30 when he left for City. If we can locate his birth certificate, we’ll see his real age π
And he has slowed down a lot, which is part of the reason why he was sold.
All that being said, I’d have him back as he’d be a good experienced head in the team for the defenders to consult with…diet pills for everyone π
Hi guys.
Could you help me out with something?
How much is it for a gallon or liter of gas (I have no idea how it’s priced) in the UK, or at least in London?
CG – How much is it in Spain, particularly Madrid?
Anybody who knows – How much is it in Milano?
Thanks in advance! π
So far I’ve read thru the first 10 posts and I know everyone knows but, SWEEPER you’re a legend and I appreciate reading your posts as much as holics but today I applaud you and for that I’ll gladly buy you an orange or apple or cranberry juice of your choice sir…the others may have to be on Lars.
CoR @37, Most teams play their reserve (& U18) matches at their training grounds. It tends to be easier from the clubs point of view for a couple of reasons 1) don’t have to open up stadiums (lots of hassle, turnstiles, stewards, catering etc etc. 2) care of pitch, most training grounds have 2 or 3 pitches that can be used for these type of games 3) most of these matches are played mid week afternoons and there would be the opportunity to pick players at short notice i.e. after training.
Snir @45 fuel is priced in litres in UK, I’m (or rather the company!) is paying around Β£1.35/litre for diesel at the moment (well in the south-west we are)
I hadn’t heard of these two players until now – Nicos Yennaris and Jernade Meade
Thanks ‘Holic
I’m also going for a narrow 2-1 victory for us!
Snir, google of no help?
Just a couple of follow up points from saturday regarding Lee Mason (or whatever you may want to call him). I’ve only seen it on MOTD2 but the freekick against Kos that lead to the goal was a soft one, sometimes given sometimes not, but was JD sleeping at the back post to allow the 2nd header back to Crouch? As regards the pen for Cham, seen them given many times, but from Mason’s viewpoint it did look as though Cham may have been backing in, unless your side-on to that sort of challenge its very difficult to be certain, and as refs at EPL always hammer home, ‘No surprises!’ which tends to mean if you’re not 100% certain and there ain’t a decent appeal then its not going to be given.
Thanks Ref.
Harsha, google was too confusing.
According to Young Guns the lineup will be: Fabianski, Yennaris, Squllaci, TV, Miquel, Frimpong, Coquelin, Yossi, Park, AOC with one of Chamakh or Rosicky to complete the 11.
Can I just chip in and say that there is something very special about watching Arsenal kids play on the big stage. They haven’t had the mark of the devil put on them yet with the pressures of the first team, big money contracts or sponsorship deals, they play with no fear, they’re hungry and they’re fantastically talented. It might be some of the purest football you can see. I love these Carling Cup games.
shame to miss you Trev. ‘holic and I were definitely present and in the right place (long) before 12.20 on sunday! π
Next time.
And hehe, leftcoast.
I loved TourΓ© at Arsenal but I think we lost him at the right time. Over the hills, past it, burnt.
I laughed at him whoring himself at PSG, one of the rare clubs who can probably pay him more money than what he currently earns.
But I suspect they’ll have no interest insigning him.
Catalan.
You’re the only (I think?) one who can help.
http://www.canalplus.es/play/video.html?xref=20111024plucanftb_22.Ves
Apparently they did influence him and Spanish speaking people are now saying that it can be seen (I couldn’t see it, I’m not much of a lip reader) that he says “puto negro de mierdo” which I understand is fucking black shit.
Is that what you see as well?
Wow, I will lose a whole lot of respect for him. Not all of it because he was an AFC captain but, will lose a considerable chunk of the respect I once had for him.
Thanks Gooner Ref. I was wondering if there was some sort of trouble with the Reserve home games or something…
Greg, I feel the same way. Totally fearless our kids are, and they exhibit amazing spirit and love for the shirt that some of the more experienced/jaded professionals may have forgotten after playing so many games during their career…the exuberance of youth is a wonder to behold
Snir – will have a look. Not sure how my lip reading skills are..
Petrol – don’t know – I just put in 20 euros each time. Not as if I have a choice, so I don’t bother checking the price! Will check it for you – remind me.
I vaguely remember (I hope) TaBS saying that he was off on holiday for a while. At least, I hope that is the reason….
Doesn’t anyone have a mobile number you could text for reassurance? π
Snir, think I saw the word ‘puto’ but not much else – not that I can profess to being anything of a lip-reader in English, let alone Spanish.
Pretty inconclusive if you ask me, but one way or another he’s clearly said something inflammatory, which would make sense considering that he’s now been at the home of the niggly, whiney, deceptive, diving, faking C*nts of Football since August.
Ho hum. You can take the boy out of Catalunya…
First allegations against Suarez, then Terry, then Fabregas, all from opposition teams that experienced a bad result…are they all smoke-screens or are they all true? If the Cesc story is true it would make me re-evaluate my view of him…
Thanks Catalan, tell me what your findings are π
I got it from @leylahamed an Arsenal fan living in Malaga. She knows Spanish obviously and she’s adamant he said puto negro de mierdo.
I wouldn’t say she’s trying to make it up so that people would change their views on Cesc, after all she’s not Tim Payton π
YDWTBH @ 47.
Where do i send the cheque.??
I’ll take the Orange juice every time.
cheers
The Sweeper
PS Who gives a Flying Fuck what Fabricated said,he’s gone, get over it.
Sweeper.
True, he is gone but that doesn’t mean the issue isn’t an interesting one.
Snir
Sorry my friend, but it’s not that interesting atall.
Most Arse fans wouldn’t even know who Barca were playing at the w/end,let alone what Fab did or didn’t say to King Canute.
They are too busy worrying about their own.
Despite our best efforts to keep him,he chose to walk away and piss off to Spain.
I know an awful lot of Arse fans, and none of them give a toss.
Thnks for the memories and all that.
We should be concentrating all our efforts on getting behind our Great Club,as they work their way out of the horrific start they have made to this season.
No Offence intended.
cheers
The Sweeper.
Snir – I’d say yes, he said it. You can see him muttering it just before the punch lands!
YDWTBH – How about orange AND cranberry? Best mocktail ever invented…
Clive, fair point although the wider issue of players abusing each other is a valid topic of conversation.
As for the man himself, good memories but you know what? Bothered. He’s one of the enemy now, and can never be mentioned in the same breath as someone like TH14. Fabrewho? He’s bought hook, line and sinker into the Farca ethos of winning at all costs, especially if you can do so by getting the B-arse-licking refs on side. They’ll almost always give a red card in their favour so those objectionable little c*nts can, in the words of those legendary Thai (or was it Chinese?) supporters in pre-season, “go home to wank”.
Once the scum, always the scum.
Up The ARSE. Almost everyone else can do one as far as I’m concerned.
Firstly, I’ve come back to this page too many times for comment #8 by the Sweeper, absolute quality! Can’t help but laugh to myself every time I think about it π I salute you sir.
Secondly, if this Fabregas allegation is true, I won’t look at him with the same eyes again, would be v.disappointing to see a former Asenal captain so respected by his former club up to the end behaving in this manner.
I feel like Balotelli when he attempted that pre-season back pass… And failed :$
Wind, second your comments on Sweeper’s posts.
That proverbial corner…we definitely haven’t turned it yet but I think you could say we’re driving at a safe speed along the straight bit before the corner with our foot hovering over the clutch and left hand resting on the gearstick, ready to change down.
Cannons. The reserves went back to Shenley in winter last season because the pitches there are of a better quality than Barnet, I believe.
They still start and finish the season at Underhill.
Well said Clive @ 62
So, I take it that there will be no streaming tonight?
I will check around kick-off time, Harsha, but I suspect we will have no luck tonight. I don’t think anybody is broadcasting the game live anywhere.
If you know different, ‘holics, do tell. Thanks.
Now Holics, no word of a lie – today is literally the first time this season I’ve looked at the table, and we’re not looking too bad I reckon.
3 points off the Sp**s in 5th (currently on 16 pts), although they have a game in hand.
After that it’s a further 3 points to the Chavs and the Barcodes (19 apiece), who are both on 9 games, like us.
Next up, as we all know, is the Chavs themselves (is that at the bus stop in Fulham or the Human Rights Abuse? Haven’t checked). If we were to amazingly win that one we would close to within 3 points of them and really start breathing down their Burberry-clad necks.
As for the Barcodes, well they’re clearly overachieving…they can’t sustain this form for much longer and their lack of class is bound to show through in the next 6 weeks or so.
Ditto the LWCs (I hope…) so come early December, perhaps Christmas, we could be up in the heady heights of 3rd or 4th, looking down on our shabby, down-at-heel neighbours occupying their rightful place in the gutter.
Close the windows, peeps. The HT Mk II is going at such a clip my newspaper’s blowing all over the shop.
Re: Snir: It appears that even Cesc is a puto now, it being in his DNA. π
Heh! Trev @ #34. It had better be… See you next week. We can tick-tack on email/mobiles before the match.
Dr.C @ #57, noted and will try.
Good day all. I’m in the process of moving…with a dog and 4 cats in tow, no picnic. You know, I was practically raised by nuns. One of them once told me, “You are truly free without possessions”. Ain’t that the truth!
@65: CG, I think it was the Chinese fans π
http://www.whoateallthepies.tv/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Wank1.jpg
@69: Holic, thanks for the explanation but now I’m thoroughly confused! Tell me if I have this right…
Shenley Training Centre is the training ground (located at London Colney) where the Reserves sometimes play in winter but they mostly play at Underhill Stadium which is the home ground of Barnet FC?
Cheers TS – I had you in mind! π
Btw fellow gooners, is it just me or does young Coquelin remind you a little bit of Henry?
Cannons, by George you’ve got it!
Phew! Can I have a pint of Guinness now please?
Clive, I hear you but I agree with Camberwell on this one because the topic itself is an interesting one, no matter who it is.
The fact that’s it’s a former Arsenal player just makes it more disappointing.
Howdy ho holics.
Been on a bit of a bender since Sunday, I hardly had time to come up for air π
Going back to Sunday, if I may, I begun the day with the Dutch version of El Classico, (Ajax Feyenoord) before switching over for the Arsenal v Swampscum game. To my surprise there was no dutch comentary and it was broadcasted with the original english voices.
Bloody hell, do you guys have to put up with that shit every week? What a load of biased, self rightous, misinformed, speculative verbal diarrhea. The only thing they seemed interested in was how long it would be before Robin was away, cunts.
As for the game itself, I thought we did well and were worthy winners, Stoke had nothing bar the pinball goal, they hardly threatened at all and when they did bother trying anything they were shut down sharpish, yet the commentators kept telling us how good Stoke were at the pressing game, at one moment I started to think that they thought that Stoke were the side playing in red, twats.
Still, 3 points were gained and even after our worst start to a season for a long while, the table doesn’t make for too unpleasant reading. With another few wins we’ll be right up in there. The HT is back on track, but unfortunatly internet trafick will decrease. I often wonder where all the gloomers go when things start to get better? Do you think they have a special hideaway lair?
Onwards and upwards my fellow gooners, tonight the distraction of the beer cup, then it’s off to the bus stop to see off the pensioners on Saturday.
Voddie shots on me.
Hola holc and Holics,
Thanks for the Voddie shot H2H I’m taking you up on it!
Does anybody on this good green earth have a link for today’s
Cup tie or will I have to break down and purchace the Arsenal(all truth all the time) player.
This is indeed a yelp for help. HELP!
COYG!!!
Video commentary on firstrowsports…..whatever that means..
@noel73
Thanks noel, any more updates from the anti-gravity treadmill?
Its called an anti treadmmill gravity machine now leftcoast since I fucked it out the window.
@noel73
Oh, there’s good news a-tonite!
lookouts below!
no stream…..bah….anyone had any luck?
Nothing yet, Tim π
Only audio streams are avaivable http://www.firstrowsports.tv/watch/88195/1/watch-arsenal-vs-bolton—video-commentary.html
just the audio via the arsenal site here if anyone is interested….
http://www.firstrowsports.tv/watch/88195/1/watch-arsenal-vs-bolton—video-commentary.html
I don’t think it’s going to happen (streams) tonight gents, I’ve been everywhere but have come up empty handed.
There won’t be any streams because it isn’t broadcasted anywhere in the world. The only crew with a camera there is the Arsenal Player guys and they’ll broadcast the game only when it ends.
Ox having a good game from the sound of it (no sight unfortunately).
and after their phone-in……
For what it’s worth sounds like we’re having all the play so far with AA and AOC having a lot of the ball…

Dear Customers and HT MkII Passengers
A quick line from me to allay recent concerns from certain regulars relating to the whereabouts of my fellow directors Dr.Feelgood and Mr.Wolfgang Smallballs.
I have been in contact with both, they are well if somewhat tied-up with various DLL duties, HT projects, etc., etc.
My guess is we’ll see them both back in our bar and CMC quite soon. They send their love, however, and encourage all passengers to keep their seats as momentum steadily builds.
Regards, Edwin.
PS: How many of you have noticed the improved quality of the HT Mk II ride over the past couple of weeks? That long run to Marseille last week has allowed us to iron out some early season suspension bugs. Masterful, if I say so myself. Next stop…. oh, it’s a bus stop. What?
Good news Prof.
Amazing that there’s no video tonight. It sounds like a good game (lots of chances for both teams).
Cannons of R –
Brazil used the training pitches at Shenley when they were in England a few (3/4 ?) seasons ago, and said they were the best surfaces they had played on during their entire world tour.
I also used to go to Barnet as a young lad, before I was old enough to venture to Highbury, and apart from quality of surface – much improved these days, btw – you also have a fair old gradient on the Underhill pitch.
Best to kick uphill in the first half in case you’re a bit cream crackered in the second.
Often, a strong wind against you, and kicking uphill, made it almost impossible to get to the opposition goal !!
Marseille….iron, yes for some reasons they thought they were Irons.
Good news, Edwin!
Cheers.
Hopefully tabs will appear in 3 posts
Let me only assist tonight.
Scoresss!!!!
Nearly by Vermaelen.
Prof TES / TABS –
that’s really good news π Cheers TS.
Yes I think the HT Mk II has been running a fair bit more smoothly over the last couple of weeks.
I think the addition and gradual fine tuning of the larger fenders has helped, both physically and psychologically. The ride is beginning to feel a lot safer these days. π
Sounds like TV looks fit….interesting that Arshavin is playing behind the striker. He really needs to seize a chance like this….
And nearly by me (playing the tabs role)
Joshua – “Nearly by Vermaelen”, I haven’t heard it, is it good ? π
Trev, I believe you can play that track on the Fenders you mention in your 102.
Trev, He forced a good save off of a freekick. Sounds like he’s doing well.
Nice work Edwin.
Tim @103 –
“sounds like TV looks fit” – my senses are getting very confused. This lack of a stream is a nightmare.
I tried, late last night, to see if there were any last minute tickets available and was directed via Arsenal.com to a “facility” called Ticketfast. You can book online and print your encrypted tickets at home, apparantly.
Except I failed 4 times, due to system errors, to get into the faciloity at all.
When are you going to sort out your on-line stuff Arsenal ? And get a proper channel on the telly ?
Park had a good effort….
set up by Arshavin
Don’t think Fabianski has made a save from my imagination about proceedings via the audio?
Trev @ 109: allow me to laugh π
Tim – did you see that or hear it, in your imagination ?
Arsenal – permission happily granted π
Ollie @ #98 – Marseille are West Ham in disguise? π
Trev @#102 – According to Edwin, it’s all in the bogies mate.
H2H @ #100 – I want to say that when talking of Park π
Question. Do I avoid the second-half commentary and watch ‘as live’ as I did against Shrewsbury?
Tim @90, Thanks, mate, great game so far. We’re gonna win!
@ Trev, when we’re attacking I see it in my imagination. Whereas when we are defending I hear the voice of Brian Moore reworking the Arsenal.com commentary.
Sounds like a very average game – which says more about them considering their starting eleven.
(finding it very hard to imagine Park however)
TS, indeed. Also forever blowing blue and white bubbles…
I’m yet to find a valid explanation for either banner.
Someone on some forum said that it’s because there’s a big ‘cockney’ expat community in Marseille, but that still doesn’ t make much sense to me.
‘holic….
No…do it old school….enjoy our late winner from Vermaelen in real time
‘Holic @115 – that’s what I’m doing, as if it makes any difference.
Tim – thanks, that helps no end, I think. π
So Tevez gets fined 4 weeks, heh.
@tim
One save that bounced a little and looked(sounded) tricky. Other than that Bogdan’s had the best work keeping Bolton in it.
Park has sounded good and was in alone except for the offside call.
Arshavin in the Cesc role hmmmm jury’s out on that.
Ox having his problems but it’s hard to be brilliant every 2 weeks or so.
Keown on at halftime. I’d be afraid to be afraid around him.
No lie G.I.
I’ve decided that following the game with no visuals is better than watching it and listening to Tony Gale.
Trev @ 109, This brings back the good ole days, listening to matches on the radio. No computers back then. BTW all, I’m enjoying the commentary, these lads are impartial and passionate.
@Tim 124
Amen, Bruddah.
So….who was there when we played France at Highbury in ’89? Watched the highlights of that last night…was a good night at the old ground and a bit surreal.
1989 – when the league cup was twice the competition than the Europa league is today.
Tim –
Vermaelen will be off after 70 mins, so you’ll have to imagine him doing it π
I can do that….
After a little half-time practice, I think I can see what you mean, and hear where you’re coming from . . . .
I’ll give it a try.
A quick thanks to Tesco for having Fursty Ferret on special this week, and Bushmills for fifteen quid too π
Bolton 1 – Arsenal 0
Shit, 0-1.
Why do our former players always score against us?
Muamba – the ingrate !
bastard Muamba….
H2H – cos as former players they can’t score for us. π
I’ll get me coat !
Own goals Trev?
I imagined the Bolton goal being miles offside….
Does Arshavin count as a former player yet? (it’s been a while)
YESSSS!!! ARSHAVIN!!!
Comrade workaholic equalises π
AA goal:)
Gooooaaaaallll!!
Arshavin.
YES I love AA!
Heh….Arshavin heard me and bashed in a goal!!! π
Come on Tim, have a go at some more of our players.
Ya never know….. π
PARK!!!!
Up the Arsh!
Paaaaaaaaaaaark!!!!!
Paaaaarrrrrk!!!
I’m the lucky charm.
As soon as I opened Arsenal Player I heard Park score.
I should be signed by Arsene.
Park . . 2 – 1
They think it’s all over . .
Terrier-like by Park π
More good work from Arshavin.
Playing them off the Park!! 2-1
@H2Holland…
let’s try it…..Bloody Benayoun needs to pull his socks up
Park..in…son!
Andrei & Ju Young eh? Should I be Russian to conclusions about a new striking partnership or just Park it there?
Park off the Mark
Ngog? Vermy has his eyes on you young man….
resurrecting his Korea?
Some excellent earwitness descriptions of the game up above. π
Come on Arsenal!!
He plays with his Seoul at least, we need more of that
Can we Nicco a 3rd?
Pun-tastic Tim!
It sounds like Andrei has found his favourite position. Can we accommodate that in the first team?
http://cfile214.uf.daum.net/image/171FA13B4EA7153D0BE33C
Come on The Potty Ox. Give us a third!
Not to be gloom and doomy but should we not get Squillaci out before he picks up a second booking or does something… Squillaci-like?
Top man Esso.
Cheers Esso. Lovely finish from Park as he adjusted his run. That’s put a tiger in my tank (sorry)!
Nice one Esso.

Arshavin goal
http://cfile207.uf.daum.net/image/1971FD374EA714620B9855
Heh! Triple play in action π
Cheers Esso and ‘Holic. That was a fine strike by Arsh.
Thanks Esso….nice goal…..
Technology heh..amazing. Good goals too
No goals for The Potty Ox tonight. Come on Ryo, make us proud!
@true storey 171
Dude, “tiger in your tank” Pulled that one out of your ancient bag wowsers!!
Happy Motoring Gooner!!!
Good to see Miyaichi and Park on at the same time.
http://www.adslogans.co.uk/images/esso.jpg
Commentator: “…not sure if it’s my Arsenal bias…” Such a pleasant change.
Good to hear some fearsome shouting in the background. Someone is doing my job in Block 32, obviously π
@TS – no worries, if you follow me on Twitter, you’ll see my attachment to the Tiger pic.
“Terrific stop from Fabianski” (a direct quote)
Heh!
Just a pussy cat, Esso π
Looking forward to watching this later….full match on firstrowsports if you dont have Arsenal player
Esso, you are now being followed π
Come on the Gunners, let’s make sure we see this out. It’s an impressive result as it stands.
Good lads. They just reminded me I am eight minutes from winning a nice lump.
Come on Arsenal, shut up shop…
@Noel73
Don’t throw your laptop out the window.
Hyuk,hyuk
lcg @ #181
“Ancient”? I’m not dead yet π
TV going off…
TV off for Boateng in the final 5 minutes? Risky?
I hope that kick from Ngog has nothing to do with it.
LEAVE HIM ON FFS. I WANT MY MONEY π
Power cut Joshua @ #195? π
200?
Rude not to
Well in Joshua
is …it…..possibly….number 200….or did I get caught in possession?
Happy to claim an assist.
Cheers TS and likewise, also for Snir
Hope this dont jinx it, but really fancy Palace away if we get through.
crap….took too long to pick my pass….how very Aaron Lennon of me
Good lads. We don’t want a third now π
Four minutes? Fuck off …
Cheers for the assist. Thankfully no power cuts tonight. Bad enough without video. No audio would be rather Arsh (as a late goal would be for ‘Holic).
don’t score Arsenal !
Jebus π
phew……Cahill had a chance eh?
@210, Don’t score Bolton!
Good call Esso. That would be a lovely tie. Might be tempted…
I hate radio.
Just hate it.
My heart isn’t cut out for that sort of thing.
How I did it when I was younger is beyond me.
FT, get in there.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!
Thank you Paddy Power π
Cheers to the ‘Holic Pound.
it’s great, makes your palms sweat (radio)
eagles, no….feck off Bolton….We won!!!
Congrats to the Holic pound π
Well done the youngsters, great result. Beers are on the flush Mr. Holic π
Whoopee!
Agreed Snir.
My ricky tick can’t take it.
But it’s all over now, well done young guns.
Ching ching Holic. π
Radio Rocks and a worthwhile win to boot!!!!!
Gotta do this more often.
GET IN SHAVA, PARK AND THE HOLIC POUND!
Good evening Holic(s)
Roxette finally let me out of her sight last week and I made a dash to the Irish Republic on DL Ltd Executive business. As you can see I just managed to survive the threat made to my life by over exposure to the evil trinity of Guinness, Beamish and Murphy’s.
Glad to see that Edwin has looked after you all and I see that the sales trend of HT tickets is once again on the rise. 4 Arsenal victories on the bounce just a co-incidence.
Slowly, normal service is being resumed.
I’ll leave you in the hands of brother zico for the foreseeable as I have to keep up with my memoirs π
I only sing when we’re winning , sing when we’re winning , I only sing when we’re winning …
Lovely-jubbly π
Evening Gents .
Am I the only one who is scared as shit from the TV substitution? He went off right after Ngog kicked him in the thigh.
Last time he got kicked he needed surgery!
congrats ‘holic…
Cheers all….a nice win will build more confidence through the squad…..
keep the faith
Now, that’s 7 wins in the last 8. And we’re IN the last 8 of the cup. I’ll take that.
Job done! In the money ‘holic, nice one!
The ‘holicpound wins! At last! π
And on another victory, goodnight folks!
Congratulations indeed to the Holic pound.
Law of averages? π
Nervy game but The Holic Pound hits again, congrats. Noel73 thanks for the info, looking forward for the game as live.
15% of my new iPhone 4s 64 gig just got paid for.
Should Andrey the iPhone be accorded the same honour as Eduardo the iMac?
I think not. Eduardo paid for all of the iMac and more, bless his little Crozillian socks π
Law of averages indeed zico. Third time lucky π
Remind me someone who the LWCs have got in the next round of the CC? What? Oh….
hey tabster, welcome back!
Rumours of your demise somewhat less than accurate, obv π
Absolutely superb from the lads.
If you’d told me after Ewood Park we’d go on a run like this i’d never have believed you.
Is it too early to suggest that maybe….. just maybe……. Arsene knows?
TaBS!
Great to see you maestro. Hope all is well. You know where I am …
A win andtabs is back!
Top evening.
So, zico in the wild and wet Republic, eh? The floods yesterday were obviously an act of God to replenish seriously depleted stocks of water for the breweries π
TS @159, I was thinking the same thing. RVP/Gervinho and AA/Park.
abb @ #243
tabs/zico?
Welcome back TABS.
Great goal by Park, we could use that in the first team.
Holic and boys ,
Cheers for the kind words , great to be back . Sorry for the absence , just a few circs came together which made visits a bit tricky , but all’s good , Carlos has increased his weaponry , and Wolfgang has bought some new lucky Speedoes , hence the turnaround in results .
Arsenal win again , ManUre stuffed at home , and John Terry’s a racist .
Who’d have thunk it ? π
Dr Z , hope you had a great holiday .
RE Parks goal.
When AA had the ball, Park realised that he was in an offside position and ran back in front of the last defender. That’s good awareness.
Question?
Does Park now move ahead of Chamahk?
What a boomerang bender.
TGSTEL would have put that a mile wide.
Looking forward to The Bus Stop now. Got another good feeling π
TS @ 244 ? I’m a little tipsy right now, no ‘cyber’ drinking, I holding the ‘real’ thing in my hands right now. Cheers!
tabs @ #246
Re: JT – Let’s not forget that he’s also a massive, sonofapikey, mate’s wife shagging c*nt. Apart from all that, he’s a lovely fellow.
Right, going underground with my scribes head on to watch the game. Enjoy the rest of your night people.
Great to have a top, top fella back tonight π
I’m off down to the bar.
Lager time.
Evening all, just making my way back from the match, as I type your spiritual home (Tollington) passes just to my left full of happy gooners.
Not much to write about the match other than out 2nd string comfortably beat Bolton’s first.
My one observation is of the energy Ryo brings with him, he has an aura I’ve only seen from the top players, a swagger and the crowd feel it too.
Another win, yey!
Great to see Park put his name back on AW’s radar. And some good effort from the Russian – signs of why we went through such hassle to sign him.
Loved the commentary – so nice to have an Arsenal bias (and a bit of common sense). Wish there was a video to go with it, but nothing could be done. I’m amazed that nobody at the FA, UEFA, or FIFA has figured out they could make a fortune if they offered high quality, live streams for matches over the internet.
Evening all – got in late and “followed” the match by reading the drinks. Slightly surreal!
Great result – a win is a win is ANOTHER win. Slowly slowly catchy…
And icing on the cake – the return of TaBS. Glad to hear that Wolfgang has been shopping, but we could do with a little help in the Quackery. Nurse ABB has been doing sterling work, but a few of the patients need a paddling, and there’s only one who can really fulfill that role…
TS@246 , how the man remains captain of his country is a complete mystery to me , but hey ho .
The Arsenal have turned a corner , I feel it in my bones . Now , off to see how The Speedo Massive have been faring with a hands-off managerial approach π
@ #252
Seconded! Welcome back to the JCs & lycra swimwear.
Wolfie meet nurse abb, nurse abb meet Wolfie π
Hey Dr C , paddle at the ready π
Tabs – great to have you back π
Tell Wolfie we came from behind tonight π
bt8bbgfg – “earwitness reports”, excellent π
That’s a beautiful finish from Park – and the ‘holic pound looks secure…
Love CC nights, make you feel young again strangely. Nice to see you back tabs…Laughing at chavski manager aston villa boatrace or whatever his name is cracking under the pressure already. Make sure to give him a warm welcome on saturday..
We don’t think it is a calf strain, it is just tight calves. He has not played a proper game for two months.
He wanted to come off.
In fairness I did not want to take him off because I thought it was too stupid now with four minutes to go to concede a goal.
He was adamant he couldn’t go on so I hope it’s not too bad.
I need to be a doctor. Damn it.
I wanted TV for Saturday, but to be honest I ain’t that concerned with Torres on Kosicelny. Drogba scares me a whole lot more.
Thank god Drogba is suspended.
Just Wondering around looking where to PARK me ARShavin…That’s all.
He’s chu young park, he’s chu young park!!!
Silly Second Yella, π Park it right here. The ‘Holic Pound struck black gold (Guinness) tonight, so the drinks will be flowing.
So now I’ve finally got home, fed the 3 angriest/hungriest cats in London and poured myself dinner, I can finally relax.
What a lovely evening for the kids – not just the ones playing but the Junior Gunners who were at the Grove in significant numbers tonight.
And great to see the regulars in fine form as usual here.
I shall leave any smart analysis to those much wiser than I, but I do have a few amateur observations. Great to see the Verminator back, looking sharp and bossy as f*ck. Whatever he was shouting at Squilly seemed to be working, he wasn’t nearly as anxiety-inducing as he usually is. And naturally Arshavin was his usual maddening self, bursts of dogged brilliance interspersed with some Olympic quality laziness.
But a good effort overall. No idea what the audio feed made it feel like obviously, bit I can’t say I felt anxious at all at any point really. Even when Bolton went one up, the kids looked confident. They’re young, they got drawn out of position and dispossesed a fair bit as you would expect against a seasoned PL side (even a shit one). But energy and not a little skill won the night. Very impressed with their composure, and delighted for PCY to find the net – and a fine goal it was too.
So all in all, a good result, the ‘holic pound triumphs, and Tabs has resurfaced. Not a lot to dislike there is there?
I could try telling that to the cats, but they’re just sulking at the moment. Spoilsports. π
Heh. From the Arseblog News match report:
“Andrei Arshavin β where do you start? Pretty much appalling in the first half. He started the second in a similar vein and then for five minutes took the game by the scruff of the neck, scored a cracking goal and laid the winner on a plate for Ju Young Park. Then went back to huffing and puffing and managed to get knocked out by a stray elbowβ¦from the referee!”
Gents, Holic has approved a CPR class at the bar, before the Chelsea game. I will be assessing your mouth-to mouth resuscitation skills, so grab your partner, and start practicing!
