Pint Of Mild And Three Points Please
Dec 20th, 2011 by 'holic
Villa Park, always a popular trip even though we have mixed memories of games against Villa and FA Cup semi-finals there. It was quite an experience to share the massive old Holte End terrace with semi-final opponents separated by a net that did not stop any coins of the realm from passing through. The old grey matter recalls pints of Mitchells & Butlers Mild, weak as gnats leakage but tasty, and most important of all cheap as chips. Both sets of fans will have fond memories of Jimmy Rimmer, Alex Cropley, Martin Keown, and more recently one Paul Merson.
What couldn’t we do with a young Martin Keown for this one? The back four will consist entirely of central defenders, but the injury to Djourou offers a selection poser for Arsene Wenger. I suspect few would support the selection of Squillaci alongside the Big Flipping German, with our best two centre-halves playing at full back. Better surely to play Ignasi Miquel at left-back and keep the rock that is Thomas Vermaelen in his true position.
The loss of Alex Song presumably offers the straight choice between Emmanuel Frimpong or Francis Coquelin. I would plump for Coquelin on the basis of his better distribution. Further than that I hope Le Boss is resisting the urge to rotate further, unless he is considering Yossi Benayoun ahead of Theo Walcott, strangely muted on Sunday although he is generally enjoying a much more consistent level of performance this season. Last season we saw that making wholesale changes did nothing but disrupt the rhythm of the side, and with so many games coming up the opportunity exists to rest just two or three players at a time whilst retaining a ‘first eleven’ spine.
Villa too have their injury worries, and up front will be missing Bent (that’s good) and Heskey (that’s a bleeding shame). They will however welcome back the rejuvenated Agbonlahor from suspension, and the quirky Ireland could return as well. That gives them an air of unpredictability, particularly against a makeshift defence.
Assuming we have made no more than two or three changes then I fancy us to dig out a result here. You will already know that if you have read the Arsenal.com Talking Heads feature for this match. The ‘holic pound is drawn to a 2-1 away win but you will need a Ladbrokes account to grab their generous 8/1 against that scoreline. Fancy a little value back-up? The Big Flipping German is overdue a headed goal from a set piece. Corals offer a staggering 16/1 against him scoring at anytime in the match. I’m opening an account to have some of that.
I’m looking out to listening to the wonderful travelling Gooners on a stream, and if you are going have a great trip. I wish I could be with you for this one.
Cheers ‘holics.

Heres to 3 points tomorrow Bushmills please
Ahoy hoi, ‘Holics….
BMBD!
‘Hols, if you think the BFG is overdue for a goal, I’m here to sell you some beachfront property in Wyoming. I had him in my Holic HT line-up but replaced him with the Verminator (more likely to score in my mind). Images from Sunday of the BFG failing to make contact on several headers leads me to think any punts on that account will be blanks.
…now watch him go and score a brace! 😉
Happy Holidays, ‘Holics!
BMBD!
Evening gents.
Good call Jay, I’ll join you.
Snir, you have mail, good news I hope.
200/1 the hat-trick, Lonestar. Get on it 😉
Mild? Not Plain?
Suarez suspended eight games for racial abuse against Evra.
top 10?
Sooooo looking forwards to j*hn T*rry getting an 8 match ban.
zico@257 in the last set of drinks – here is the painful truth:
by not realizing that we had to work for the points until it was too late.
Let’s hope we don’t make the same mistake tomorrow. Once more, it is up to us to at least match them for work rate. But are we sure Bent won’t play? I hope he isn’t, that would really make me feel a lot calmer. And as the Holic says, let’s not make too many changes, please!
In any case it is a must-win game, pretty much like all games until ManU at home.
Bent ruled out, Lars…
http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~2553776,00.html
Hellollie.
Looks like one of the two bottles of Talisker I bought for Christmas won’t make it.
Which of the two second-halves should I be watching?
Catalan, I had actually forgotten about that – and in the Terry case they have much more solid evidence. Well, unless we are to believe that Terry was just telling Ferdinand that he did not call him that…
Which of the two second-halves should I be watching?
Methinks that’s a question for Jackster 😉
Well Lars, at least that attitude thing has been sorted since then
Mertesacker to score at any time during the season, never mind the match. I’m with Lonestar, very long odds to 1.
Wolfie has more chance of scoring in a convent. 8)
Yep Lars
They’ve set a precedent now. I trust there won’t be one rule for the Ingerland boys (he’s not that type of lad) and one for the dirty foreigners…..
‘Trust’, ‘FA’, heh. We’ll see.
Heh Lars
“I didn’t call you a **************, you **********”
🙂
Holic, cheers for the link. That’s a massive bonus for us. I can honestly say that I’ll be very, very disappointed if we don’t win tomorrow. I am not expecting a rout or anything, just that we go in there and work hard enough to get all three points.
Ollie @15
Wise words…
Villa’s bet forward was out at the weekend, and he’ll be bck tomorrow.
And it ain’t Bent. Or Emile.
Put Kos on him and then relax.
zico@13: it certainly has. There is still a little worry that we will revert to old sins, but I have to say that the worry is growing smaller for each game.
Catalan@16: heh 😀
Bet = best.
Bck = back.
Feckin Apple = Feckin Apple.
Cheers, ‘holic. It seems like you’ve been expecting BFG to score for some time now. Any odds on a contrarian bet that he won’t score at all this season. 😉 Koscielny to score in an Arsenal win. Up the Arse!!
Holic
That other less successful Scottish git, always managed to make life very difficult for us when he was at Brum.
A 1-1 draw at the Emirates a few seasons back,+ some very difficult games at their place, notwithstanding Eduardo’s injury,
so i am not expecting anything diff tomorrow.
It will be the usual 1 up front and the rest behind the ball at all times.
A very physical encounter can be expected, and it will depend how much the City game has taken out of our boys, both physically and mentally.
Cannot argue with your thoughts on team selection except i think Wenger will be tempted to beef up midfield with Frimpong replacing Song.
I think it will get very abrasive in their, and 2 small men in Ramsey and Coq may not be up to it.
I was impressed with the way Liverpool took the game to villa from the off last saturday, and stamped their authority on the game very early on.
I feel the same is required from us,get an early goal and put them on the backfoot.
The longer the game goes without us scoring, the more confident they will get,and the chances of them nicking a late goal could be on the cards,as we could tire, due to our exertions at City.
If we show the same commitment and aptitude tomorrow, that we did at City, then we should win this.
Cheers
Clive
Whoops. Looks like a few drinkers already put the cosh on the Mertesacker goal. 😀
I am watching Blackburn-Bolton, and once again I can conclude that Gary Cahill is emphatically NOT a player anywhere near good enough for us. The Yak just scored after Cahill was nowhere near where he should have been. I am honestly not even sure he is better than Squillaci.
Zico
how many times do i have to tell you,
Oranges are far more nutritional than fecking Apples.!!
Agreed Lars. And Samba as bad on the other side.
Arsene knows.
Clive, McLeish comes from a line of hammer throwers and he has at least one thug in his starting 11. We need to be prepared to scrap.
Or score from a corner – they looked awful at the weekend from set pieces – step up TV5 🙂
Clive,
Guinness is more nutritional than both – just ask Holic 😉
I hope the ox is unleashed against AV. Defenders don’t relish a striker running at them with the ball like Ronaldo.
Walcott could take a break and act as back up.
Against MC after going a goal down, the gunners resorted to much passing thereby giving the blue defenders time to regroup and snuff out the attack.Against a direct running attacker,it’s another dimension.
I’m for the Ox having a run out, at least for 30 minutes. Only one way to gain experience… and can honestly do any worse than AA???
I’m with both Smallballs and Catalan.
Wrong Wolfgang I think, Guv.
But I agree with all 3 of you.
played ‘holic – first time we’ve had to bounce back after a league defeat in a wee while.
Throwing something a bit different into the mix to liven things up sounds alright to me – go on Arsene set the Ox on ’em
of the CoqPong combo reckon he’ll probably go for Pongy, with no Songy in there, for the physicality factor – but s’pose only Arsene nose at the mo
will we get through the thing without losing more FBs or FB cover? Trust Pat’s bringing his boots
UREDS!
Oops – Arsene knows
I’m with Lars and Zico on Cahill but I quite fancy that Junior Hoilett (tut tut in the footballing sense gents).
He has pace, good control and looks like he has a brain too.
Bloody doppelgangers 😉
forgot – re master gibbs – that our FB curse has been extended to occur between games too. Come on Dennis put another word in for us with the other FGs – please
Up The Arse!
And wouldn’t mind seeing Yossi given the nod neither when AW does his on the hourish subs an’ all
Great post mate. Hope everything is well.
Blooming Esso. Cheers.
The sentiment is reciprocated. Want to share more ales with you…
Interesting discussion.
I wouldn’t worry too much about this game, you’ll piss it.
The only threat we have to you is Gabby, who may prove very interesting to you Arsers in the future.
I’ll leave it at that, I think.
Actually, I meant the very near future, but we’ll see.
Evening all,
Been busy preparing for Crimbo and at work, Need to make enough time for my journey to the midlands. Aim to pick up my daugher at about 2.30 and head off from there. Very much looking forward to it.
I have just spoken to a good mate who is a Villa season ticket holder. He confirms that they have been shite all season. As far as he is concerned a point would mean that santa was 4 days early.
I would like to see Le Coq play instead of Le Pong but I must agree with others, I thing Pong gets the nod. I would actually start AOC and tell him to terrorise the back 4. Can’t see that either.
Looking forward to another road trip.
Up the Gunners.
Hello Villan, and welcome. Certainly he would fit the bill as a Wenger signing, but for one thing. If Villa were willing to sell another English club would pay more than us for him. It’s a fact of life for us, I’m afraid. Hence why we don’t have Young, a Gooner.
The word is you’ve put a bid in and the choice is in his hands, although he has to put a request in so the club don’t look bad.
I think he’s on £45-50k a week, so you could better that if you wanted, I’d have thought?
I’m not sure who else would want him really, given the strikers at other clubs.
But he’d certainly do a job for you, I reckon.
It could all be a total load of pony, of course.
And probably is.
But that’s what I’ve heard.
Very sad, seeing as he loves the club and still lives a few miles away.
Whatever, you’ll have no problem tomorrow.
We have no fight about us at all.
I agree with the aforementioned Villa ST holder.
We get a draw, that’ll be our xmas.
Clive @ 26, give me a Pink Lady anyday mate. 🙂
Quick stop.
If Agbonlahor signs I demand to get the clairvoyant position again. People can go back to posts in January 10 when I said that we need to sign him after RvP was injured by Chilleni.
That’d be something. I just talked about him with a friend of mine and we reckoned he’ll finish his career at Villa, he seems like that type of player.
Holic, thanks, I’ll respond when I get home.
Just been reading the news about Gibbs. Is it me or do we seem to suffer more than our fair share of “setbacks” when it comes to getting players back and fit again. ManUre has Hernandez out until February. Then he plays last Saturday. All we seem to get is setbacks. Why is that? Poor advice? Trying to rush players back too soon or medical staff that are just not top notch? It cant be a coincidence anymore. It is starting to get silly.
Very late, again, meh 🙁
‘Holic, pleased to hear you have Mrs ‘Holic back and hopefully fully recovered.
I agree with Catalan, Wolfgang, zico and yourself about the Ox, and anyone else who agrees with our gang 😉
Steve T – very frustrating. I must admit I haven’t heard about the ‘setback’ yet, but I would have been amazed if he had made it through an entire game anyway, let alone the Christmas programme.
Hardly worth disrupting the back four even further, only to have to disrupt it again.
It is a very sad thing about a talented player, but you have to think that his body is not capable of standing up to the demands.
I want to be very positive and hopeful about the new medical centre, but I have to say I found it a bit worrying that the original ‘3 weeks out’ forecast for Santos then became 3 months and an operation back in Brazil!
I know ‘Holic had a very positive experience when he visited the new centre, but you do start to wonder.
To all regulars – have not had time to catch up on last day’s drinks, so apologies for lack of comments.
Looking forward to Christmas break so I can get involved again – afraid work is just too busy at the moment.
Having to put in extra shifts in The Quackery too – it seems Mr Waterman is in desparate need of crazy pills, and with the January window creaking open, demand could go through the roof when Gang Goolie gets going 😉
*notices he has notched an effortless half century*
BtW – all the best to TS for the trip to Villa Park tomorrow.
If you’re in the bar before the match, TS, do have a Kipper Tie for me – milk and two sugars please 🙂
Big, big match tomorrow so it is important that we be dead serious. 🙁
That dispensed with, let’s see some odds on Miquel being the first scorer, and Squillaci the second. 😀
Just a thought or two:
Walcott has been judged harshly Sunday effort. He never had the opportunities because distribution from the middle was poor. Ramsey the primary culprit.
Kosc’ has been a great signing and it is only the ridiculous red card against ‘Pool last year that has tarnished opinion and delayed appreciation. Comical to hear pundits go on about how he is only now proving himself Premiere League worthy. He is a real athlete with no fear.
Hoping Wenger opts for pace against Villa. Sadly Andre should not figure. A good match to let some of the youngsters impress.
Thanks again ‘Holic for your fine work. My favorite Gooner blog.
Howdy ‘holics and visitors.
McLeish has turned a once exciting looking side into a rabble of mid table also rans. Villa were always a pretty dynamic team, but I have been far from impressed with them lately.
We’ll be looking to bouce back after Sunday, but for them this is also a big game, they’ll not want to lose twice at home in less then a week. Our lads will still have to be on top of their game to get a result.
I gotta feeling that Ramsey and Theo might just get a rest tomorrow and I’d personally pick Coq over Pong (oo-eer)
@45: Villan, welcome to bar mate. What do the rest of Villans think of McLeish at the moment? Is the situation as bad as it is at Blackburn? I remember hearing a lot of people say that they would not renew their season ticket if he were to be appointed as manager so I was just wondering what the atmosphere must be like.
I wouldn’t mind Agbonlahor to be honest but I’d prefer Bent for his poaching abilities. Reminds me of a bearded Wrightie
Hi Villan, nice to have you.
First I’ve heard about Gabby A, but it would be great if somehow we managed the transfer 🙂
On another note, nice to see more civil fans of the next club the Arsenal are going to play nowadays, makes more a more interesting discussion, no? 🙂
Lars@25: I agree. I never understood why people thought we should buy the linchpin of one of the leakiest defenses in the Prem.
And on that note NBN about Lars @ 27, it seems that Chelsea have agreed a £7 million deal for Cahill before personal terms will be agreed in January.
Good riddance I say, I’d rather that Vertonghen would come and partner Vermaelen at CB this January anyway 🙂
But Arsenal in for Bridge?
Don’t make me laugh 😆
Hey NBN, your hamstrings recover from that 200-drink dash yesterday?
Holic – thanks for the email, check your inbox for my reply.
Ollie – You’ve got mail (in case you didn’t see it from the weekend).
Snowy – You’ve got mail.
Thanks everybody 😀
Up the Arse!
Hoilett out of contract at Blackburn in the summer.
Would definitely take him over AA. Excellent player.
Really needs to get out of Blackburn.
Would pay about 5 million for him in January.
CoR@59: not even a tweak.
It would be good to beat Villa by at least three goals so we can turn our away goal difference positive at last.
Good preview ‘holic.
My selection for this would be
SZCZ
Kos BFG Verminator Iggie
Pong Arteta
Benayoun
Walcott RVP Gervinho
The Ox to come on for Theo after 60 minutes
As Lars said, really need the three points tonight
If I had to guess, I think the boss may start The Ox ahead of Walcott and either Park or Chamakh for RVP. But then again who really knows what he’ll do with our forward players for this game…
Should we keep the exact same forward 3 as usual or what that be to our detriment?
I think I’ll join you with that team selection Harsha
Ramsey could do with a rest and Yossi deserves a run out.
Coming on to change the game…. Chamakh or Gabby… hmmm!
Interesting rumour. He would certainly tick all the boxes, especially being proven in England. Think I’d better take some of Snir’s tranquilisers.
Morning Trev. And the rest of you. 🙂
Hoilett has been mentioned by some, and I have to say he was one of very few Blackburn players last night that seemed to have any kind of creativity to his game. Have seen too little of him to agree or disagree that he could be Arsenal material, but isn’t he a tad on the small side?
Snir, you were far from the only one to suggest Agbonlahor around that time or even earlier. You’ll have to do a little bit better than that if you want to change your name to Claire Voyant 😉
SteveT@48: I have also wondered about how it is possible that ManU players so often make early comebacks and I can think of two reasons – one is that their medical team deliberately overstates the seriousness of any injury (either to make themselves look better when they get the players back “early” or for some other reason) and the other one is the use of illegal drugs. And I don’t quite believe it’s the latter, to be honest.
As for tonight, I would not be suprised to see RvP start on the bench. It’s only been three days since Sunday, so it is not unlikely that he is in that infamous red zone. But whatever team we put out, please please please win the game!
Hello Lars, I reckon it’s because Fergie tells fucking lies about how long his players are likely to be missing. It’s all part of his pathetic mind games.
We really must win tonight and i don’t think they’ll be many changes apart from those because of injury.
Cheers and happy Christmas to one and all.
sorry about that – ‘there’ll’ not ‘they’ll’, what a pratt!
Wee sniffing around Junior’s Toilet? Could get messi!
I’ll get me paper hat
Game day
URRReeeeeDDDDDsssssSSSSSS!!!!
That Blackburn game feels more depressing with every passing week. Tonight’s a must win anyway, not least because I want to enjoy watching those two other London teams knock seven bells out of each other tomorrow night.
…..*tumbleweed*……
Just a flying visit today . Xmas bender – steady Wolfie – so hoping I won’t be squinting at the screen later on .
Great preview Holic , and agree with your team . Let’s make sure the lessons of Wengerball 3 have been learnt – match them for effort from the get go , and not let Villa build up any head of steam . Do that , and our greater ability and Villa’s own lack of confidence will surely mean we’ll be heading home with the points in our bin .
Wolfgang @29 was indeed a doppelganger . Easy to tell when its him – he only turns up after a defeat .
Good luck everybody .
COME ON THE ARSENAL !!!
Here’s hoping we give that twat McLeish a bloody nose tonight, eh lads?
@ Harsha 64
I would probably leave Ramsey in there with R2teta and Pong in the middle.
Back and and front to stay as you have mentioned and please bring on the Ox after 60 minutes Arsene.
Any away fans reading this sing an Ox song (if there is one that is) after 60 minutes, perhaps Lord Wenger will approve.
@56 Cannons of rhetoric
McCleish is hated mate.
There was a recent poll on Vital Villa with around 1000 fans responding. I think it was 96% want him out.
Trust me the rivalry between us and City is easily as big as yourselves and the Yids and it was always a bad move hiring him from the off.
It’s that bad that there is a very vocal minority calling for Lerner to sell up.
What with the dire football, it’s all gloom, doom and despondency down at VP, hence the atmosphere is poor. We can’t even be bothered to boo now, almost like there’s an acceptance that we’re going to lose, although that might change tonight if you give us a shoeing.
It’s all down to McCleish with his negative approach and constant rattling on about the defence and defending.
As for Bent, there’s a rumour going round that QPR might be in for him.
I can’t see it myself and don’t think he’ll be going anywhere in Jan, but you never know, as some of the fans wouldn’t mind him going as he never gets the ball, the way we play.
My Gabby comment is much more solid and apparently has come from a very trusted source. It’s not even common knowledge amongst Villa fans.
But as I said, we’ll see.
Good luck for tonight, not that I think you’ll need it.
Erm, Mr Villan.
Yids has no place here – call them by their right name – Lily White C**ts.
Just sayin’
Haha, sorry.
Coral it is then Holic you can’t really go wrong with that one! Hope Management is feeling better now too!
Can’t wait for tonight!
Come on Arsenal!
Villan,
How refreshing to have a fan of another side on here who you can have a polite, grown-up discussion with.
Everyone else is like, “Ner ner you’re shit, look what ManYoo did to you etc.” It’s unbelivably childish, so welcome to the establishment and well done for bringing a breath of fresh air.
Pint on the bar for you.
@76: That bad now, huh? It must be nauseating knowing that your archrivals got relegated but then their manager became your bane…Villan, I would like to wish you good luck for the game as well but instead I’ll offer you a pint of Guinness and best wishes in getting a new manager instead! All the best during the festive season as well mate.
@80
Cheers mate. I’ve grown a bit old for that sort of thing 🙂
I don’t mind Arsenal, you play the game as it should be played, which when I think of McCleish, well….. (shudders).
I spent a few weeks working at London Met uni a couple of years back.
I quite enjoyed my time there and used the Blackstock most nights.
Very decent pint of Stella 🙂
Cheers for the pint!
@81
Yes, nauseating is a good word.
Most fans say it wasn’t that he came from City (or the scum as we like to call them :-)), but just the fact that he relegated them twice in 3 years.
Even the cup win over you is seen as flukey.
Thanks, I can live with Guiness too!
No doubt I’ll be back later to get a round in 🙂
Hehe, anytime Villan. Guinness is to be drunk vigorously and with extreme prejudice during the winter…or before getting intimate with a fat lady 🙂
All seems okay, Carlos,
Mr Villan seems like a very decent chap. So, you can reduce the alert level and go back to R&R with Wolfie.
While you’re at it (or maybe better after!) could you ask Nurse Wolfie to just check that the IV drips for Clive and Snir are topped up, and that Clives restraints haven’t been tampered with?
Muchas gracias, amigo.
Right. Nearly time to hit the road. Bring it on.
TS, if you are going we are in lower Q, row G. You should have my number somewhere still. Drop me a text if you fancy a meet. Villain, if you are about the first one is on me.
onwards and upwards dear holics.
I have the quite horrible feeling that my week off next week will hardly be completely off due to yet more Spanish fuckwittery.
Ollie @86 🙂 🙂
There is no known cure… even from a Quack!
Safe trip Steve T 😉
http://www.football365.com/mediawatch/7390060/Mediawatch
I found it impossible not to laugh at the deconstruction of Liverpool’s arguments there.
Usual Mediawatch gold 🙂
Have a good one Steve T, I await the matchground roving report 🙂
Mr Villian
You are also welcome to taste some of the finest Polish Winsiowka if you dare. Careful though those cherries are certainly looking rather deceiving to me, once they have been tampered with by Dr Feelgood!
Thanks for sharing Ollie! A right old laugh indeed! 🙂
Dr Feelgood has no interest in your cherries, Arthur.
So I hear. 😉
Zico
Not when they have been induced with 45% of pure joy 🙂
Afternoon all.
I’d like to echo the sentiments of those before me who rightly said how great it is to have an opposing fan who is civel and is willing to have a propper debate, thank you Mr Villan.
===
Enjoy yourself and TS (and all who travel) tonight, I noticed Arseblogger mention that the game will not be live on TV tonight, is that true? Strange if it is, because I’ve got it live on the box over here.
An afternoon tipple on me.
Heh.
Lurkers assemble!
Who will be my strike partner today?
* Enjoy yourself Steve T and TS.
よし、できた :D
俺は「ラック」の達人です!
Pwned by Japanese 😮
‘bows respectfully, and walks out backwards with head lowered’
Assist for me, runs to the corner for the customary high five.
「ラック」=Lurk
Heh, CoR made short work of those midget defenders with his welltimed bicycle kick into the top right corner of the net. Pneumatic skill
Defying the Laws of Physics as he wishes 🙂
H2H @ 96 – not on TV in the UK I think he meant.
TS and Steve T – have a good trip. Tollie on Tour. 🙂
Best century ever, CoR, your ban is rescinded 😉
Zico, I get that, but seeing that my sports channel gets all its PL pictures via Sky, it just seems wierd that the game can’t be seen in the UK.
Game also live on Cyfra+ (Polish SKY) it’s rather strange it’s not live on Sky.
Arthur, that suggests to me that another good thing in having a team with all different nationalities is that you’re always more likely to find at least one country interested in showing our games live 🙂
Thanks Ollie! I used some Samurai Spirit there mate 🙂
アーセナルも頑張れ~!!頑張ったら絶対勝つ!
I can’t believe they are showing Wigan vs Liverhoof on Sky hahahah 🙂
AtG. That’s wierd.
I got the choice between;
Villa – Arsenal
Fulham – Man U
Citeh – Stoke
Everton – Swansea
Inter – Lecce.
Or some golf rubbish
‘racially aggravated public order offence’ with these words: “I have never aimed a racist remark at anyone and count people from all races and creeds among my closest friends.” He will appear in front of magistrates on February 1. If found guilty, he can kiss Euro 2012 goodbye…
Ooooh. Looks like everybody’s bringing out their ‘black friends’ these days.
Good stuff, H2H, I haven’t actually checked what’s on offer for me yet.
H2H
I think I have just been shafted, they changed to the Fulham game! I swear I saw us on the schedule last night. Need to check it when I get home!
If only they’d changed to the ‘Fulham’ game. I’m afraid you’ll find they’ve changed to the ‘Man U’ game, Arthur 😉
I think a previous post of mine went missing:
(possibly because of the included link to TV programme)
it’s ‘Multiplex on Canal+’.
But the short description on Canal+ only mentions the 4 games that kick- off at 8pm.
So I do fear that their main game is the Fulham vs Mancs too, and that we might possibly get a few updates from our games if there are goals (but not in the 15 minutes).
Getting more and more disappointed with Canal+’s Arsenal coverage.
Ollie
They are getting worse and worse to be honest with you. How can you change the schedule just like that?
On Canal+ Gol they will show some no disrespect French league game!
I seem to be one of the lucky ones then.
Every Arsenal PL game is shown on Sport1 NL. Pretty surprised that L’pools game’s not shown (Kuyt), Newcastle’s either (Krul).
Yet another reason why RvP must stay at the HoF.
The holidays are here and I can’t get what I want…to watch the Arsenal game…on live tv….wtf….for US viewers there is a replay on YES tomorrow at 7:30pm. Do you guys know any reliable streams? Let’s get three points.
Gedo keep it quiet please:
http://www.footballstreaming.info/streams/todays-links/
H2H – same with Israeli channels and Yossi.
Is this the time when we write in different languages?
כי אני יכול לרשום ככה כל היום וזה יהיה הרבה יותר נוח 🙂
Note: Hebrew is from right to left 🙂

Dat kan ik ook.
Snir: I can read it I just don’t understand it!
Key Ani ichol Lerashum cechah col hiyom oduh adonay harovah yotair not
It’s been a while, just how badly did I fare? 🙂
Evening’ All
We’re on our way to Villa Park! Talking of Park, can anyone verify if there’s any truth in the rumour that he’s playing left back tonight? 😉
Looking forward to a damn good shout with the Mahoosive Travelling Faithful.
Will report back later with thoughts on the match.
In the meantime COYRRRs!!!!!!!
“Do you guys know any reliable streams?”
If you’re willing to pay, I can recommend http://www.villastreams.com
Don’t be fooled by the name, it shows pretty much all of the prem games live (95 times out of a hundred in English) and other stuff such as big boxing fights etc.
Sky sports runs constantly from what I’ve seen.
£1.99 per day, £3.99 for two weeks and £12.99 for 3 months.
Absolutely ideal, if you can’t travel away for games.
And most importantly it’s very reliable and very decent quality.
I’ve used it for over two years.
And no, I don’t run the site, so it’s not an advert 🙂
You’ve nothing to lose (well, £1.99) if you sign for one match/day.
With that, I’m off to the game.
Catch you later to get the drinks in and give you my thoughts.
when the champs league restarts won’t there be an on-GOING AWAY-leg issue re the stalwart of the blue russians defence being allowed to travel.
And i shouldn’t wonder that their dressing room is banned from mentioning extra-time, time-added on and penalties etc. too.
Fancy being on trial at this stage in his career – “we’ve offered him terms – long’uns”
Up The Arse!
The Japanese characters don’t seem to appear on my home PC.
Coq to start at Right back?
See answer on the arses, Harsha 😉
Evening all,
Good to see a Villan prepared to engage (and well picked up on the y word zico, cheers).
Sometimes you need to be reminded that all clubs have a usually silent majority of thoroughly decent fans as well as a clutch of utter fuckwits.
Yes, in a couple of cases the decent to fuckwit ratio is pretty slim, but they are the exceptions that prove the rule.
Just got in. Good atmosphere amongst the travelling faithful. Villa boys looking a bit down. Let’s hope and pray that it stays the way.
CoqPong combo starts although I trust the former will be at full back.
Corals here offering odds on who gets banged up first, Harry or Terry.
Keep the faith.

Heh
Dutch stream not loading in Sopcast, but Polish Sky seems to be getting there. Channel 123571.
Arthur will translate 😉
Dutch stream probably won’t start till 5 mins before kick off, because it’s on one of the extra channels.
==========
Szczesny, Coquelin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Walcott, Ramsey, Frimpong, Arteta, Gervinho, van Persie. Subs: Almunia, Rosicky, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Squillaci, Arshavin, Chamakh, Benayoun.
Right, the multiplex starts, we’ll see what their main game is.
Bar time!
Shitteh the main game, I think.
vs Stoke.
I may just puke.
Ollie @ 136 any odds on them sharing a cell – a win double methinks
I’d shoot for Terry on this occasion Steve and Ollie, he’s gone down but not all the way down on many occasions (UCL Final ’08 on his ass, WC ’10 with the diving header clearance on his belly, Stamford Bridge ’11 on his face) 🙂
Come on you gunners.
Fuck Canal+
Or indeed an each-going-away bet
The Polish link seems to be showing highlights ‘holic.
Why is this Dutch link not loading. Damn..
All sopcast fucked sadly.
Stuck with browsers…
Gervinho working hard down the left wing.
Penalty won by Walcott!
Pelanty!
Pelanty!
Get in RVP!!!!!
UBLUEES!
Well done Theo.
RVPPP
Rveeepeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
He scores when he wants,
He scores when he wants,
Robin van Persie,
He scores when he wants…
and he equals henry’s record.
Equalling Thierry’s record for Arsenal, our captain, Robin van Persie.
Come on you Blues that are Red at Heart!
Why didn’t villa play like this against pool? They might have got a draw if they had.
Holic, try channel 122999 in Sopcast. Seems to be working OK for me..
It was not quite high, you dopey nasal cunt Francis.
shaky coq getting caught out – comon son!
Decent stream anyone?
The stream @ 124 is doing the job for me Arthur.
Thanks TH,
Good back up but a minute behind my browser.
Oooh Rambo 🙁
http://www.firstrowsports.tv/watch/99131/1/watch-aston-villa-vs-arsenal.html
working great, thanks.
First Row is very good Arthur.
villa up for it
TH and Wind Diamonds!
Holic on the case mate!
Russinas sounds to me like mother language 🙂
But we’re up – RVPen
What foul?
can’t help thinkin they’re going to atttack the coqsack combo down our right side and try to make yellows reds – maybe a change at HT?
Hi all!
First row choppy here, cest la vie.
Robin van Persie!!! I can’t quite work out the formation through the choppy feed- are we 3 at the back?
Bitty half, but we have earned the right to play a bit later on.
Well done you hardworking beauties.
Wind thank you for the link etc!
My TV schedule still says villa v Arsenal but guess who is playing?
Just installed a new operating system and the screen is quite dark so on my stream Arsenal and Villa’s uniform’s don’t look very different. Very confusing. 🙁
Just installed a new operating system and the screen is quite dark so on my stream Arsenal and Villa’s uniforms don’t look very different. Very confusing. 🙁
TH you are the man there is nothing like Sopcast ….
Nervy first half come on you REDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No problem Arthur, glad to help out a fellow Gooner 🙂
Um, Man Citeh vs Stoke?
Say it again, bt8?
I have to agree with you ‘Holic, I think the last match where Rambo never played a short incomplete pass was against Marseille in October or so 🙁
Come on Arsenal! Double brace for RVP and we’re on our way!
Thanks Arthur:) Might be a lag on it though..
BBC commentary says:
Aston Villa 0-1 Arsenal
David Ornstein’s HT snapshot: “An opening 45 minutes completely dominated by Villa ends with Arsenal taking a lead into the break. It’s a funny old game. Plenty of chances for the hosts but this is why they’ve failed to score in four of their past five games. No cutting edge. Unlike Arsenal and that man Robin van Persie.”
I thought it was pretty even, or is it my bias towards Arsenal? How on earth can anyone say Villa is dominating the game?!!
Ollie, You are a rascal. 😉
Come on Arsenal!!!
Guys, BBC are saying Villa dominated 1st half.
What really happened?
A bit shaky, but 1-0 at the break will do nicely.
Even first half but Arsenal’s second half to take.
Cuppa please barman.
Three pints of Pride gone. Onto the Fursty Ferret already.
That’s what happened 😉
Guys, stuff the BBC.
They also said that Van Persie’s penalty was his 33rd goal this calender year… 😕
Has Lonestar got a bet on that 200/1 Mertesacker hat-trick? Only 45 before cash-in time!
@ 190 Holic
Mange tout!
Glass of Cava…. Now off to the pub for the black stuff
Teary, they may have dominated overall but it’s not one-sided as that report sounds.
Rambo chance for instance was a great one if he’d composed himself, he was in plenty of space on his own.
Rambo tired on the run, eh?
Frimpong gotta use the ball a bit better…
I know someone mentioned it above but these kits make for a hard to view spectacle on a bad stream. I can imagine it’s that much better when you are on the pitch when sometime you just glace up to catch the colour of a teammate to pass to.
Tepid first half but I don’t think Villa have got the teeth to get a goal, that said I’d prefer we had a second to work with. We only need the ref to change the match after all.
Arteta putting in a good shift and keeping the shape in the middle where almost all of the match seems to be taking place.
Thanks Ollie, that report definitely sounded biased..
Btw, any idea why Miquel is not playing, or even on the bench?
Am getting slightly restless that Coq is on a yellow… That might mean
Kos on the right and The Squid at CB very soon.
cock-up
oh crap.
We had to concede the 20,000th goal in the League
‘face in hands’
Ohh, Mertesacker almost scored with a shot in the box!
Nearly by Mertesacker. Come on you gunners!
Scapegoat seekers, that was a rarity indeed.
A Vermaelen fuck up. 🙁
Missing a Sond.
we….really…need…to….win…this….Come on Arsenal
Missing a Song
Better Albrighton than Aguero ‘shudders’
Indeed ‘holic @203.
Well said, Holic. Anywhere else on the pitch, it would barely have been noticed. Right there, costly. Hopefully not too much.
I hate repeating myself with little evidence to point to, but I would really love to see the Ox get more of a chance in the last 30 minutes of these games. I think he could have been decisive at Man City (unfounded statement, I understand). His type of creativity tends to really mix defenses up.
Fuck off ref!!!
Thank goodness Cameroon didn’t qualify for the ACN.
COOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEE OOOOOONNN AAAARRRRRRSEENNNNNNAAAAALLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Frimpong for Rosicky, right decision in my eyes.
What a wonderful Christmas I would have if BFG scored the winner in a 2-1 triumph 😉
Too right!
Holic
Boys are on the case! 🙂
Fucking hell Theo.
Where is OX?
OX?OX?OX?OX?OX?OX?OX?OX?OX?OX?OX?
Verminator is my man!
Agreed, ATG. Would like to see Ox and Yossi come on.
I spot a pissed off Belgian on the pitch. I hope he scores.
benny 4 ramsey?
Arfur and Joshua, I think Arsène will throw caution to the wind if we don’t score, but not just now.
I’d say Ox for Ramsey, slide RVP back just slightly. Strange?
SZCZ!!!
Cock’s sake….. give Ox a go somewhere!
Ramsey not had one of his finest today
I’m with PiK on this one.
But this referee is trying to do us in!
WTF REF!!
how is that not a penalty?? RvP couldn’t move forward….come on….
How is that a dive you hallucinating cunt of a referee?
Who is this cunt?
Bad night
horrible miss by the referee….van Persie was so clearly impeded
AA????
Again????
Arsene, you are testing me……..
No Oxlade-Chamberlain 🙁
Gervinho off for Arshavin, Ramsey off for Benayoun.
More faith in Asharvin than Alex? I just don’t follow, it seems so conservative!
Come on Yossi and AA.
COME ON ARSENAAAALLL
Come on Benny!!! Bring it!
guess we’re not going long-high balls into the box – class
Now COMONARSEnAL!
for fucks sake it was 3 penalties in one…catches him with his left foot, hip and then shoulder for good measure
Walcott has been fairly anonymous (bar the penalty).. Come on you REDS….
come on Arshavin…change our minds
BennyGoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bennygoooooooooon!

Give him a start, Arsene! He’s given his all when he’s on the pitch!
Come you GGGGGOOOOOOOOONNNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!
BENAYOUN SAYS HAPPY CHRISTMAS, GOONERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
About time we took advantage of the fact that Villa are rubbish. Benny completely unmarked for that header.
Happy Hannukah Yossi!!!
Yossi king of Israel!!

We’re showing we can defend with 10 men.

Ex scum FACTOR!
Well in Gunners!
Final whistle. Christmas booze paid for. Thank you Coral 🙂
Get in there. Back on track.
Does AA have photos of Arsene?
Holic Great Pound on this one!
villa played that like it was a cup final – they were right up for it – but our lot found a way to win as per!!!!
UrEdSSS!
What a relief ….
I hate watching us lose, but I love watching us win
😆
Congrats on the end of the year bonus, Holic! 😉
Happy Hannukah Snir and Yossi!!!!!
the ‘holic pound pays for christmas – woohoo!
Hard wotk, but 3 Lovely points.
Well done lads.
Holic @ 269
How very dare you? He’s not that kind of player!
Surfacing a bit earlier Oliva…? ‘raises eyebrow’
That’s why you bring on the seasoned vet to snatch the three points at the end of the game.
Thanks for the great streams guys, well done.
All the BEST HOLIC = #1
LOL, red card for a Spud cherry on top of the cake:) Loving it!
Happy holi(c)days, holics!
Arsenal celebrating the return of the ‘Holic Management
A late Wigan goal and I’ll be content 🙂
More content than I already am, of course 😉
Too true Joshua 🙂
Now just hope for a draw between spuds and chelski…
COYG
I’ll take that.
Sorry about the ‘holic pound. again.
Didn’t see any of that but a welcome return to winning ways and a LWC reject red card.
Nice.
Up yours ya Ginger Minger 🙂
Brilliant 3 points!!
We just had to score from one of the bazillion corners we got!
Up the Arse!
back-heel
Question. Is it wrong to be happy that Stoke got thrashed, even if it was at the hands of the Oil Barons?
Well in Joshua!
And yes, yes it is.
Lovelu backheel for the assist AL, good to see your board duties haven’t dulled your footballing ability 😉
Love to see Mcleish’s face post match but think that will wait till tomorrow.. Great 3 points, surely benayoun deserves a start ahead of ramsey i think..
Good Night All..
COYGGG
No need to be sorry Ollie. BFG may have been denied, but I have made a very tidy little tickle on the scoreline 😀
Had to check first, Wind.
Yay! 300!
And Lester,
Not sure it is becoming of a Board Member to be showboating with fancy back heels, when there are urgent duties to attend to.
It’s like PHW playing keepy uppy in the concourse outside the Armoury.
And speaking of urgent duties, Dr Feelgood’s glass is half full – he is looking kinda introspective in the corner…..
Wigan hold Liverpool. I wonder if they can do the same against Manure (after holding Chelsea on Saturday).
Now hoping for a 5-5 draw between Sp*ds and Chelsea with lots of red cards (at least 6).
I really really hate McLeish and Hutton is a scumbag.
So pleased we won.
apologies Dr. Z will get on it immediately!
Any news on Vermaelen and Koscielny? Or I’ll have to wait the news on Pravda
Oh Yossi, you’re so fine,
You’re so fine you blow my mind,
Oh Yossi, boom, boom
Oh Yossi, boom, boom
A Yossi thumbs up to everyone, I’m knackered…heading off to work now 🙂
Pint of Pride and coffee for whoever wants….
I’m in heaven. Oh, I love snatching an away win after a nervy game.
We can not control the middle without Song, especially not with Ramsey working hard but not really getting it together. Our only way then is to pump the ball out to the flanks, but since we can’t really overlap there with the Coc and Vermaelen not the best full backs in the world, we’re kind of stuck. That is what happened today but well played lads, you did us all proud working through it and snatching the points.
Some players didn’t play as well as they could, some made uncharacteristic mistakes, but all together we did what was necessary and that old truth about winning as a team and losing as a team surely must be true. We won thanks to the players on the pitch today, not in spite of some of them.
Loving it!
oh yes, sorry, was focussing on the BFG, but forgot that the basic punt was on 2-1.
CONGRATULATIONS, ‘holic!
And a good, 3-pointed night to you all.
Love it @ 310, CoR, doing in my head with the arm actions and accompanying shoulder movements 🙂
Worried about Ramsey’s passing and his play full stop, Yossi to be subbed in for Aaron’s starting berth on Monday?
left, right then – MOTD and reports from our chaps at the front – (Snowy, TS and Steve T?) to look forward to
Hmm, either Yossi or Tomas to feature in a few of these upcoming fixtures I think. Aaron has been working extremely hard and deserves a bit of a rest I think….
Well said Toby.
Congrats on the windfall ‘holic.
Beers for the boys in the bar please.
300? We’re going to be 3rd in 30 days boys….
(there was some delay updating posts here in the desert as you can see…)
Toby @ 311 Nicely put.
ta Wind – finding duties very much more of pleasure than a chore – on the HT – woo woo – something for the juke box maybes
thiiis one’s for Yossi!
http://youtu.be/0FOoxlkcEAI
CoR @315 Yes, Benny and TR both looked good. Ramsey deserves a rest, he gives it his all.
Just had a lively exchange with my Italian buddies, Nicola and Pino. Seems the Arsenal is a thorn in their side. Something about Arsenal beating ACM a couple of years ago…it didn’t help that I fueled the fire by putting on my Arsenal scarf, egging them on. Oh to be a gooner!!!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Firstly, apologies to Steve T. Should have back drunk when I posted earlier. We were in the same block, I was in row P! See you for QPR-ha-ha?
Delicious 3 points secured from The Villans….. in the end. It was nail-biting stuff but a really top jostle when Benny scored from a corner. Cue mayhem and the birth of a new song!
Kos, Verm & Arteta were immense again. Per was too aside from his one crucial slip (3rd time unlucky?).
I don’t care when we win ugly, I just love it when we win. A round for all in the bar please Mr.Barman and several for yourself what you’re there 🙂
Come on you Mighty Reds!!!!!
Merry Xmas all!!
Evening Gents, just back from watching the game in a pub (live) with the boys.
One HUGE observation.
Villa were good this evening and we had 4 players off the pace, Walcott, Gerv, Ramsey and Frimpong BUT WE GROUND OUT A WIN whereas last season this was a game we would probably have lost and most likely drawn.
There is a new tenacity, a steel spine to this team and just like Man U and Chelsea in previous seasons we are capable of getting a result when below our best.
Arteta, you beauty! Skill, hunger, passion, commitment, workrate, he leads by example and to me is growing stronger and more influential game by game.
A nervewracking evening but a wonderful result.
Well done chaps, you had the misfortune to meet us when we played the best we have all season 🙂
As for the atmosphere, well, we played a game of footy tonight and the fans responded.
Good game, that could have gone either way imo.
And yes, I thought we did dominate the first half.
The kid Clark who gave the pen away is one to keep your eye on, trust me. He’s just class.
There’s a good chance he might be playing for you in a couple of years time 🙁
Whatever, I’m happy with how we played tonight, even though we lost and fair play, you got the 3 points you needed.
Everyone’s a winner in that sense 🙂
Thanks for the chat lads.
Maybe we’ll do you next time.
Don’t worry all of you who got/offered me a drink.
The dough’s behind the bar 😉
I almost forgot.
Did Gabby gift you that goal?
I wonder 😉
Fair play, Villan. Pleasure to meet you, virtually…
