The End Of An Era As Peter Hill-Wood Stands Down
Jun 14th, 2013 by 'holic
I have found myself raising a glass this evening to Peter Hill-Wood after the announcement that he was stepping down from his role of Arsenal chairman. For over half a century he has been a part of the Arsenal board, succeeding his father Dennis in the chair in 1982. He continued a family connection with the club that stretches back over eighty years to his grandfather Sir Samuel who took over the chairmanship from Sir Henry Norris in 1929.
I know on occasion he would be quoted, more often than not in the Daily Star (no, I haven’t a clue either!), and would provoke a mixed response. I prefer to remember the steady hand on the tiller provided by his family, and his contribution to the move to Ashburton Grove. As other Premiership clubs, one of them not far away, contemplate the funding of future developments we are sitting pretty having utilised Peter’s banking contacts to secure the necessary on very favourable terms. How fitting that a man brought on to the board at that time, Sir Chips Keswick, succeeds his old Hambros colleague as chairman.
Removed from the human shield that the board has become in recent years, I hope Peter enjoys a long and healthy retirement. It is just a little sad for some of us old boys that another name that has been associated with the club since before even we were around is no longer. A good chunk of what made Arsenal the club it has been for so long has moved on.
Thank you Peter.

Do I win a prize?
How did you manage that post without a single chips pun?
You are the very portrait of statesmanlike restraint.
*raises glass to The Barman & PHW*
Two great servants of The Arsenal in their own way
Nice tribute Holic…PHW is the epitome of Arsenal’s heritage.
Blimey, you even cut me off as my alter ego now. 🙁
Nice tribute though Holic.
I know you have a fondness for the old chap and, I have to say I share it.
Your final paragraph is perfect.
Very nice farewell drink from PHW in the previous post.
Well worth a:

Trev, most men have a certain attachment to their old chaps.
🙂
Nice one ‘holic.
Thank you Mr Hill-Wood for your life long contribution, you shall not be forgotten.
Fine tribute Holic.
I raise a glass of the cratur to PHW and your good self.
Slainte
Thank you PHW for your service to the club, and may you enjoy your well deserved retirement. Cheers.
Let’s hope the new guy advocates Arsene to splash the cash, otherwise he’ll be known as Cheap as(s) Chips.
If he does encourage spending, Stan might sack him.
He’ll then be known as Kroenkie-cut Chips.
🙂
…never wears slip-on shoes
Shoestring Chips
…likes lollipops
Chupa Chips
Good evening folks. Holic, PHW I suspect will have the last laugh on the media. His generation didn’t care so much about being saavy in the press. Doesn’t mean he didn’t know what he was going on about 😉 Like Pat Rice, he was (is) a loyal servent to our club. May he enjoy watching The Arsenal for many years to come.
…..Enjoys a leisurely game on a manicured lawn
Bowl of Chips
Give him plenty of encouragement ……
Egg ‘n Chips.
Nice tribute, ‘holic.

I believe he has invested in nuclear power.
Fission Chips…
Very fitting that we have a Chippendale as the Chairman.
Is that what they mean by a ‘seat on the board’ ?
When does the foot ball start ?
Please ! 😉

H scores @25. 🙂
In no particular order 🙂 Ollie, safe trip lad !!! By now, the Junior Gunners are tucked in for the night, really hope they had a wonderful time. Andy and H2H, enjoyed your contributions on this summer time fare 😉 Camberwell, delighted for you and your better half ! Congrats to Holic, to whatever part you played on putting that beauty in the air, something to be very proud of. Gosh, I’m rubbing elbows with pure class here 🙂 8ball, must admit, your links never fail to make me smile xx cba, don’t you change a thing 😉
He used to take antidepressant pills…….
When the Chips are down.
Very fine tribute ‘Holic. We football fans tend to bestow legend status on mostly the people we see close to the pitch and in doing so we forget the executives who put in work behind the scenes, PHW is an Arsenal legend in my books, up there with Dennis, Henry, Kanu and Arsene e.t.c.(in no particular Order) on the list of people I’ve come to adore and love in my time supporting the Arsenal. No matter what anyone thought of the old chap, there is no denying the fact that he had the best interests of Arsenal at heart at all times. I wish him the best of luck in all his endeavours.
Hehs at the puns above.
Cheers, abb. Always a kind word. 🙂
H2H. 🙂
He buys back Carlos Vela…
Sir Chips brings back Mr Chips.
Hehs above Cent, Trev, H2H and – ‘the instigator’ – bath
More?????
….waves farewell
Goodbye Mr.Chips
Has a conversation…
Chippy chatter
Cheers T.S.
Cheers 8ball 🙂 Ok, how about ‘Chips Ahoy’ mates. You see, it’s a cookie brand. Oh Trev, you make it seem so easy, this punning. Mine has already started to crumble!
Have been reading your blog for years, first time commenting. It just struck me: All great blogs, or writing for that matter, require an amalgamation of various traits. You need to have a distinct voice, a sense of humour, insight and a dash of madness to do this everyday. The standout trait about you that gives this blog a distinct flavour is, in one word, grace; sadly a dying feature in blogs (maybe humans in general). This is the Riquelme of arsenal blogs.
Nice one Cent.
Heh, TS.
Cheers abb.
😉
I’d chip in but…..
That is one runaway pun-train … undoubtedly the best is by the host @25. 🙂
I always loved the way PHW’s comments used to dismiss the idiotic media frenzy about the most insignificant of things (a defining characteristics of our times) surrounding club Arsenal.
One of the things I love most about this club is the way we tend to rise above the ‘conventional wisdom’ in a manner that is proud but not arrogant. Having old-school prudence and perspective at the helm definitely had helped with that approach to the mad world of modern football.
You mean the “End of an Error” more like! Let’s hope the taipan Keswick can do a whole lot better!
All the best Mr. Hill-Wood! End of an era indeed. Who gets his cigars now then?
That Lady Nina is a bit of alright.
Poker, Chips.
Nice tribute holic. In these days of unbridled riches and greed ruling the heads of many in the game the loyalty shown by the Hill-Wood family over the years is very much worthy of recognition. Those who constantly moan and seek the perceived greener grass of pastures new should take note.
With Sir Chips in charge I assume we will be in a position to make a genuine a-salt on the title next season?
I have written several pieces in the past suggesting that PHW was a figurehead and a not very involved one at that and his chairing of recent AGMs has betrayed a certain lack of understanding of modern football fans but now is the time to remember that he has been a devoted custodian of the club in very tough times and leaves it in rude health.
As I once wrote he is an old buffer but he is Our old buffer! One of my friends saw him striding through the foyer of a hotel in Milan in carpet slippers .
This will be the first time since I supported Arsenal that the Chairman has not had a double- barrelled name! However I think Sir Chippendale Keswick sounds pretty up market to me and I know from contacts at Hambros he is a very shrewd and well – respected cookie
Our thoughts should go out to the Daily Star who have lost the contact of their dreams.
Thanks PHW and good health in the future.
Dearie me, The Saint. Time to control that Templar? 😛
Heh! @ The WST
Heh TS 48
Is our new chairman connected to Chippy of Hackney Wick ?
So the long connection to the Hill-Wood family is finally severed. There is no doubt that the contribution to Arsenal FC made by the family has been an important part of what the club has come to signify; loyalty, dignity and ‘classy’. It is part of what makes Arsenal, Arsenal and I hope we don’t lose those attributes from the Club.
I once saw ouf new chairman in à Fish restaurant. He asked the waiter how much the skate and chips cost.It was too dear for him so hé asked for a childrens portion. Now thats a little chipskate.
Took me a while to realise that there was yet another blog!?!?
Good puns yesterday, gents.
Never in doubt. Cheers PHW
Cheers ‘holic. A fine tribute to a great Arsenal man.
Morning all,
Bit blustery out. Hopefully won’t have to venture too far. May have to pop to Marlborough for some decent beef.
Anybody doing anything vaguely, you know, exciting?
Any truth to the rumor that Peter Hill-Wood stood down because we haven’t signed anybody yet? Maybe in protest because it costs too much to attend a match at the Emirates?
Reminds me of Pique luring Fabregas back to Barcelona.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22908572
Apparently Bale may be presumed to have Madrid DNA? It could be time for him to take the patatas bravas test.
Interesting article but I disagree with the premise of the first paragraph. Instead of the number of fouls committed by Premier League players it should read fouls called by Premier League referees. The game is very rough and physical especially when compared to just about any other European League, and certainly in comparison to the Champions League.

W S Tone, Washed up, 🙂
Abb @39,
“Mine has already started to crumble!”
Cheers ‘H, very nice tribute.
Maybe our new Mr Chips will bring Chippy back.
Holic. My Saturday.
Kids football training, 30 mile bike ride, pub and then The Who playing the whole of Quadrophenia at the O2.
Bring it on.
And welcome back to the land of the living (websites)
Apologies for the downtime all.
Our finest boffins have sorted it now.
Thanks to them, and you for your patience.
So the bar was closed to everyone, not just me then?
Superb French Fried Potato-based pus above. Congratulations to all involved.
Best of luck to PHW for the future and many thanks for his past efforts. Let’s hope that Chips can match and maybe even surpass his efforts.
Bugger. Learn to type.
Should have been …Potato-based puNs.
I’m sure you didn’t mean to pus on anyones chips, Oxon 😉
Are we live?
Have I missed anything?????!
Of course we are!
This bar has become a part of my life, this downtime just made me realize the number of times I refresh it in a day, all thanks to the landlord and other patrons of the bar for creating such a serene and welcoming environment, you are all awesome.
Good SPOT, holic (re your 67)
I love Chips.

One problem with being asleep the other side of the world when everyone else is posting is that all the best puns have gone by the time I get a go. Grrrrr
After backdrinking and finding every pun I think of already posted (double Grrrrr) all I can add is … The honorarium Sir Keswick gets as chairman, would that be the packet of Chips?
Oskar
Pus on chips – isn’t that what you get in the Nederlands?
I agree re. Mr Hill-Wood, and the Hill-Wood family historically. Whilst he has become an easy target, he has had (and has had to have) a broad but, notable exceptions aside, dignified back (nothing like mixing figures of speech). I wish him all the best.
I think they call it mayo, bath 😉
Anyone heard the Nani rumours? Hmmm.
CG Nani along with the Granny Shagger…mmmmm. No thank you!
As for Nani we already have inconsistent wingers. Neither do I want to see the fat diving twat (never forgiven him ) any where near the Grove…he has far too much baggage to be accepted by the fans. If we are willing to spend the sort of money Rooney would cost in transfer fee and mega salary, lets go for a real super duper player.
Exactly Uply, a massively inconsistent player and almost up there with Shrek in terms of c*ntiness.
Uply knows!
Oskar @75, puns about our new Chairman aren’t difficult to make, they’re as cheap as chips.
And east to repeat Cent – H2H beat you to it. 😉
Sorry to chip in, and all that. 😉
East = easy, Oops. 🙁
Re: Oxon @66. I thought it was closed just for me. Paranoia? 😉
I’m so bored over here.
But I bought tickets for the Arsenal vs Urawa Reds game so I’m feeling a little bit chipper at the moment 😀
I do know this whole transfer jiggery pokery is all very difficult and complicated and blah, blah, blah, but, I seem to remember Mr Gazidis promising us some “exciting news” in the “next 48 hours” ………….
That was, err, nine days ago ….. ???
For those, like me, who are not of a mathematical bent, that is 216 hours ago ….. ???
Just sayin’ ……. (I didn’t make the statement). 😉
It was Oxon – but we all stopped posting just so you wouldn’t realise. 😉
Maybe the exciting news was the retirement of PHW Trev?
Cannons. Instead of letting the Chips fall where they may it seems the Arsenal board have decided to float the Chips to the top. A risky strategy for those who tend not to put their faith in antigravity chips, I must say. 🙂
I am very disappointed that our acknowledged punmeisters have confined themselves to potato-based puns on the name of the new Chairman. Where is the raft of Lake District-centred jollity? It’s certainly proving beyond my powers at present to pun on Bassenthwaite or Derwent, but surely there MUST be some possibilites?
Over to you, Sirs…
Pitiful caption on the picture in this story:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-22924751
(Despite their sadness at being relegated for the first time in their 108 year history at the top of Argentine football, Independiente supporters did the “manly” thing of not starting a riot. What a bunch of rot.)
Point is the assumption that starting a riot should even be an issue is a bunch of rot, not that they should have started a riot. At least in my limited world view. 😉
relegation put their dreams of success in a woodchipper…
Oxon 92. Keep chipping away..something will come to you 😉
Nacho chips it forward…
Afternoon all.
Couldn’t get on yesterday, but now I see that was down to technical difficulties rather then my own incompetance, phew.
Maybe for the best as it was the other halfs B’day, so I wasn’t constantly trying to log on to catch up on the latest chip pun.
Took her to Amsterdam for the day, now I love Amsterdam at night, have built up many wonderful memories and complete blackouts over the years of working there in the clubscene, however, Amsterdam by light is not exactly my cup o’ tea. Hoardes of tourists. hen parties and stag do’s roam the streets in a drunken/stoned state, making a total nuisance of themselves. I’d been there before quite a few times in the day, but never on a Saturday, good grief what a mess.
Anyway, I wasn’t going to let that get in the way of a nice day out, so, as requested by the Birthday’d one, we payed a visit to the Casino. I’m not much of a gambling man, so spent much of the time propping up the bar, the only advice I could give to my roulette playing partner was to “put it all on red”. 🙂
After working up an appetite. came my always favourite bit, (sarcastic font) – looking for a restaurant, I’d done a bit of legwork before and narrowed down the choices, there was one very chique Asian cuisine place and one, what looked on the internet, quasi chique, a bit loungey, but I liked the look of the menu (I”m a fussy git) so we went towards that one. We were greated at the door, so I asked in Dutch, if they had a table for two, the guy looked at me as if I was speaking in Martian, but after a while he seemed to cotton on and asked us to “Fillow my”. The establishment was nothing like advertised, but still, I thought I’d grin and bare it. I asked our designated waiter if I could have two menus and a gander at the wine card, once again I recieved wierd stares and a shrug of the shoulders as to indicate that he didn’t understand me, I inquired if there was anyone in this restaurant that actually spoke the language of the land, the one I had made a considerable effort to learn and master over the years, he called over a coleague who greeted us and apologised for the situation…… IN FRIGIN’ GERMAN!!
Well, suffice to say, that was my cue to get the hell outta there, the missus didn’t mind one bit, as I don’t think she was too impressed with that choice anyway. So on we went to the Asian Cuisine place. It was on a pretty touristy street, but it was the only place that didn’t have flashing neon lights, chalkboards with the specials on it or pictures of the food in the windows. I’d actualy go as far as saying that if you didn’t know it was there you would completly miss it. The only sign of exsistance was a small glass board with a written description of a selection of the dishes and a cordened off red carpet. Score!!
Once inside, it was clear to see that you wasn’t on the tourist beaten track anymore. Seated at the table next to us were two top tv execs, dining with very well known presenters, so with the help of my eves dropping skills I am prive to what’s going to be on the box this time next year and seeing that these where the guys that brought us (and you) Big Brother and The Voice, you all can expect that crap coming to a tv near you too. 😉 On a trip to the little boys room I also caught a glance of some Ere Divisie stars and other various celeb types. Very fancy/smancy.
Anyways, great food with a Mi Krop to die for, although the soup literaly set my throat alight, hot as hell!! If any of you are in Amsterdam and enjoy Asian Fusion cuisine I can highly recomend this place and will gladly share the name and location with you, it is a little on the pricey side, especially when compared to it’s direct competition in the street, but well worth it if food is your thing.
Sorry that this was a bit off topic, I do realise that noodles are not Chips.
Have we signed anyone yet?
Oh, and heh @ Bath and ‘holic 76 – 78.
Pus Mayo indeed. 🙂
from outta nowhere.
In off the botty
🙁
Well in scruz.
Unlucky Cynic, better luck next time son.
Thumbs down to Upply’s attempt above to kick-start woodworking punnery.
of course, if sir John were a successful golfer, they’re chips’ chips.
i thought wolfie was the only one to go for mayo baths, ‘holic.
cheers, h2h, sorry cynic. you got tabsed.
What an assist by H2H – the longest pass in history !
Sorry, as ever, to disappoint, Oxon. 🙁
Well in scruz, but you did have 5 minutes to run onto it ! 😉
Oxon, “thumbs down” is a very good way to do woodwork. 😉
btw, h2h, sounds like a bit of adventure, “all on red” indeed. i kept waiting for a chip pun, though 🙂
heh, trev, at my age it was barely enough time to beat the cynic…
lol Joe Kinnear back at Newcastle
Wonderful post H2H. That could have been a guest tale 🙂
Cynic, the journos will be delighted to see JK back, especially the one he called a see you next Tuesday 😀
Evening all!
Ah, Trev I see H2H did it at 12, they’re really a bit like Almunia; easy to be chipped.
H2H, nice drink @99, and well in Scruz!
Now that the debt is nearly paid down and Arsenal are even more ‘in the chips’, it’s time for AW to spend some……
Was just wondering what Sir Chips, as a Premier League chairman, is likely to be earning these days.
It seems that, compared to some of the top players, it will be small potatoes. 😉
Probably a decent wedge though. 😉
Cheers maestro, too kind. But I think I’ll try to pop my cherry with a more Arsenal related post.
Thanx for letting me ramble on, I wanted to share, but don’t do Twitter. 🙂
=====
Nice one Trev.
I’ve run out of potato puns…..
But I’ll keep my eyes peeled for some new ones. 😕
Heh !
Poor old Ollie is in his hotel in Qatar and hasn’t got a reliable wifi connection. He is cut off from the outside world apart from texts.
Wonder if I can get a free overseas texts plan anywhere?
it’s 1-1 in Rio. Pirlo put Italy ahead through a decent free-kick(‘keeper should have done better) and Chicharito equalised for Mexico from the spot. It’s been quite an entertaining game so far, better than yesterday’s game, hoping for more of the same in the second-half.
Poor old Ollie in his air conditioned, seven star hotel, is that ? 😉
He can do a guest post on his Arabian Nights.
A tale of Oillie wells and roulette chips, “all on the reds”. 😉
Holic, at least he doesn’t have to deal with the Eurostar web site for a while then…
He just got through to Twitter on his iPod. Still no joy on the laptop…
Ipodhello indeed . Not 7 stars I’m afraid Trev. I wish.
Feeling chipper I hope, Ollie ? 😉
Game over! 2-1 to Italy. Ballotelli with the winning goal, second half not as entertaining as first half.
Ollie, glad to see you are still in contact with civilisation.
Hope it’s not to dreary in the gulf.
H2H
My other half had a birthday yesterday too and it was a BIG birthday.
I took her to see the grandchildren nothing as exotic as Amsterdam!
Best wishes to her indoors. I’m joining my youngest grandson as a Junior Gunner tomorrow but his elder brother has been claimed by the forces of darkness. That’s what you get for allowing your daughter to marry a Spud! He tells me Arsenal is his second team but I don’t know how that works!
It looks like we’ve been very busy “definitely” signing Higuain,Fellaini,Cesar,Nani and Williams. Things would have to be very different under Sir Chips for that to happen. Higuain, Fellaini and Schwarzer would do me
Has anyone done the “Sir Chips? Sounds like a Spud” joke yet?
I think you will find it was ‘once a spud’ Cynic 😉
News just in – Dick Law in negotiating action.
Is this why we are not capturing top players ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj3dYWds6d0
Haha, Trev, I wouldn’t blame anybody for not understanding/hearing what that guy is saying.
Did you lovely chaps and chappettes notice that both Walcott and Fabianski got married this weekend?
I guess we’ll see a chip in their step from now on eh? 😉
A hungry traveller stops at a monastery and is taken to the kitchens. A brother is frying potatoes.
‘Are you the friar?’ he asks.
‘No. I’m the chip monk,’ he replies.
*CoR picks up coat and walks wearily toward the exit of the drinking establishment lamenting the lack of activity*
Ken Friar and Sir Chips are sitting in a pub, having a pint.
Friar: hey, Chippy old chap, if a tree falls in the wood and no one is there to hear it, does it still make a sound?
Chips: Yes it doe… no, hang on, maybe not… Man that was deep, Friar…
Welcome back to the virtual world, Ollie!
Cent@132: is he actually saying anything, though? To me it just sounds like he is making sounds in a very repetitive pattern to make it appear like he’s talking really fast.
I guess so, Lars, the only thing I could hear were numbers, like ’35 hfkgyareahjk 40 jfhagekfugl 45…’
COR @ 134, nice one.
Lars, I can’t get my head around your 135.
Cent, I think Lars was refering to ‘deep fryer’ , quite clever 🙂 Hey holics ! Tasty offerings by you all. Only problem is I want MORE, hint, hint 😉
Abb, Oliver Twist asked for more…chips.
Top of the morning to all ye fine fellows and a wave to abb.
Belated congrats to you and your other half, TTG. I could use many words to describe Amsterdam, but exotic wouldn’t be one of them. 😉
Hi fellas! Very quiet here … I know, lets blame Ollie 🙂 And I don’t care much for these dreadful rumours that we’re selling Kos! And getting Nani 🙁
Abb, rest easy, I believe Kos is going nowhere, as for Nani, I’d take him for the quoted price, strength in depth and all that.
I note that Bendtner’s Arseblog News item headlined “I’m outta here in two weeks,” was posted 9 days ago.
Only 5 days to go until we are shot of the twat unless he’s using the term “two weeks” as loosely as he used the phrase “TGSTEL”.
Bath,
let’s hope it wasn’t the medical team who told him “2 weeks” 😉
Good man Cent.
There’s absolutly nothing in those Kos stories, but at the same time, I’m not really convinced with the Nani link either.
The general concencus seems to be that we don’t need/wouldn’t want a player like Nani, I’m not so sure, I think there’s a decent player in there. Last season he wasn’t involved much, but the two seasons before he was one of their best performers. (2010-11 Players Player of the year). Again, we shall see.
Cannons @134. 🙂
Hey bath, I do feel I’ve heard that before from him.
Heh Trev.
So will Bendy be The Greatest Striker That Ever Left ?? 😉
Gloryholes & Sticky Situations
Whichever wonk is in charge of marketing at Liverpool away kit-ruiners and sports equipment churner-outers Warrior clearly either knows exactly what they are doing, or are dumber than a shoe and have little knowledge of toilet-based sex slang.
Warrior have a new boot out, called ‘The Gambler.’ Inspired, we can only assume, by Kenny Rogers rather than Brendan Rodgers.
And to sell the shoe they have released some interesting marketing bumpf. As well as informing us that the instep is no longer called the instep but rather the ‘Ace Plate’ and the outside of the foot will henceforth be known as ‘The Outsider Zone’, apparently these boots feature ‘Gloryholes.’
That’s ‘Gloryholes’. A space at the back (obviously) of the boot which helps the wearer deal with ‘sticky situations.’
er, all right, bravo
Heh Ollie !
Well, let me be the first –
Do you know a stud that needs a gloryhole ? 🙁 😉
Ideal boots for Wolfiehampton Wanderers. 😉
The gloryhole is for getting your foot stuck in right? 🙂
Gloryhole…..I will leave that alone…common decency restricts further response 😉
Trev 152….top top marks for Wolfiehampton Wanderers..2 for the price of 1 for those who know rhyming slang 🙂
abb, you are right – I was going for the “deep fryer” angle.
And heh@Trev@152 🙂
Hah hah. Gloryhole … hmm. Uply I shall venture where you drop off. Bought me a bra that is meant for the booty! It lifts what has gone ‘south’ and not just for the winter! The two big gaping holes are worn in the back, and magic, you have a backside that Jennifer Lopez would be proud of 🙂 Well, don’t complain. Holic did ask if we had done anything exciting 😉
Abb….heh I expect Wolfie is frantically searching on line at this moment for pictures of one 😉
I was going to make no further comment but a JLo butt..I’m off for a cold shower 🙂
As we’re on the subject.
It looks like the gloryholes up the road are going to lose both their manager AVB to Qatar S G and their primate player G Bale to Madrid.
I seem to have been able to connect to tinternet with the laptop from the hotel tonight.
Off for dinner shortly.
Which hotel Ollster? I used to frequent the Ramada Rennaisance on the ‘C’ ring road, arghhh 30 years ago. 🙁
H2H @146, well said! I have my doubts too but I think he worth the gamble.
Hehs @ ollie @ 150.
Trev, various hehs above.
Abb @156, I saw a few of those ‘bras’ somewhere (don’t ask me where or what I was doing there) a while back, I don’t know who keeps inventing these things, first it was make-up, then push up bras and now this, this is clear cheating! I’m organising a worldwide protest, we will walk on beaches and pools around the world carrying bananas/cucumbers inside our speedos!
Hehs! at the various TGSTEL jokes and Lars’ deep Friar. Excellent stuff.
abb – An ar*e bra??? Really??? Would the same company that makes them also be offering ‘gentleman pouches’ for the ol’ two veg? A sort of lifter, separator and sack-cleavage maker for the older gent that might be contemplating tucking them into his shoes to avoid embarrassment?
In any case, this banter beats the tedium of transfer window bollix.
….feels inadequate in the gloryhole
Chip-olata….
Oxon, according to Ollie’s Twitter it seems he has lost his connection.
TS @162, haha, good question mate, very good question.
Thanks Cent.
(adopts Schwarzeneger persona) He’ll be back.
Oxon, heh, you know the scene in expendables pt2 when Arnold told Bruce Willis ‘I will be back!’ And Bruce goes ‘ you’ve been back enough times’? That’s one of my best scenes.
Its all quiet on the transfer front.. Too quiet. That surely means , we gonna spend the 100 mi warchest!
Ahh, first Cent. Cent you are YOUNG. You have not experienced gravity (yet) in such a ‘personal’ way 😉 My advice to you is to eat those items, as nature intended 🙂 TS, actually, they do offer such ‘garments’ 😉 With, or w/o padding. All come with instructions (no kidding). In other news, Arsenal mowed the pitch today … and took pics 😉
Quick observation re: Nani, from what I’ve seen he’s a far better and happier player when on the right wing than when on the left. In fact, that’s been part of his problem at Utd.
Given we have Theo and the Ox, I don’t see this one happening at all.
Haha Nursie, I understand, was just pulling your legs. Hope you’re good and you will be supporting Nigeria against Tahiti today in the Confederation’s cup.
N7, I thought it was the other way round, too bad.
Lost it, got it back, I’m on the computer, after having had dinner in the Souk.
Cent, watching the game now :). Ollie (from twitter), out door air conditioning?! What next.
What next? World Cup in totally air conditioned stadiums, that’s what 😉
Yes Ollie. Do remember reading that. Engineering nightmare 😉 Must say, feeling a bit anxious for Tahiti at the moment. Consolation goal, please 🙂
Connection getting much slower at the moment, so might be a good time to wave my goodbyes…
Gooners of a certain age will remember Geoff Strong,a man who was brilliant in the air and possessor of a thunderbolt shot in his right foot. Sadly he died today aged 75 in a care home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. it seems hard to think that one of our finest striking partnerships- Strong and Baker – are both gone.RIP Geoff I will always remember you leaping like a salmon at the North Bank end to score the equaliser in a 4-4 draw against the LWCs in something like 1964. Wonderful memories.
Well played TS @163.
I couldn’t find a good excuse for that one. 🙂
We were writing at the same time TtG 😉 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hillwood has done great stuff for the club already. Now its time to win trophies
