Thank You ‘holics
Dec 25th, 2013 by 'holic
You become aware when writing a blog that is read relatively widely that not everybody is celebrating the same festivals at the same time. So you may or may not be enjoying some time celebrating the greatest chinese whispers of all time right now or you may be actually working to provide for you and yours.
Whatever your faith, viewpoint, or situation, may I just take this opportunity to wish you all a healthy holiday (where applicable) and a prosperous new year.
Have a good one, ‘holics, and thank you.

I’ll keep my 2014 prayers for you till the new year. And that’s only cos you haven’t finished receiving the blessing this year has in store. Have a wonderful day ‘holic as I am currently… Merry Christmas to all. Alomo bitters all on me. Have a fun-filled day.
Merry Christmas Holic 🙂 And many thanks, once again for continuing to maintain this place where we can all gather, your bar.
Merry Christmas Holic and to all true Gooners everywhere.
Thank you for all you do
A merry Christmas to all from Sydney! It is wet and overcast to start but a fun day will be had! It is almost beverage o’clock…
Here’s to 3 points against the hammers!
***raises another glass to ‘holic and his denizens***
Well said holic and the same wishes to you sir. And to the ret of the knuckleheads in the joint!
And so … Another round on Lars!
Merry Christmas to those celebrating!
Ditto ditto ditto. Nothing I can add to your excellent message, ‘holic, so I’ll drink to it instead. Question is, Delamain Vesper or Highland Park 18yo? Mmmm, think I’ll open another Epic Hop Zombie* while deciding on the chaser…
Öskar
*Epic Hop Zombie is a NZ craft beer. What other beers aspire to be when they grow up … 8.5% of huge, hoppy, mouth-numbing, resinous imperial IPA with the power to induce stupifying chain reactions in the brains of the living.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to ‘holic and all of the ‘holics, wherever you may be. Thank you to everyone here – you’ve all kept me informed, entertained, amused and diverted, and provided solace when needed. Here’s to a great 2014.
Merry Christmas holics. Enjoy the festive holidays, and matches.
Hello all, and thank you. Enjoy the socks and hankies 😉
Joyous festivities to all Gooners everywhere and especially the barman
Happy Christmas to all, whatever your belief. I believe I’ll have another beer (to start).
Keep the faith.
Good morning one and all. Festive greetings to each and everyone of you and your families. Wherever you may be on this planet of ours I hope you and yours are all fit and heathy. I hope that those all of you struggling with the weather and transport made it home safely.
Big love and hugs to you all.
Up the Gunners.
Cool yules to y’all.
Highland Park 18yo all round.
A toast to our host.
Slainte.
Merry Christmas to the holics family, have a good one guys and may the new year bring in festive cheer in more ways than one, you know what i mean right, an Arsenal trophy win and then we go bonkers.
Merry Christmas all you lovely holics!!!!
Merry Christmas one and all !
I’ll join Bath in his toast to the host, who is apparantly “enjoying his socks and hankies”.
They’ll eat anything in the Black Country. 😉
My dog has just been eating the decorations off the Christmas tree and now has a nasty case of tinsellitis. 😉
That must be my coat ………..
Merry Christmas to all ‘Holics celebrating!
Best joke of yesterday’s pantomime:
“The adults will remember playing ‘Knock down ginger’ when they were kids. That was the game where you knocked on someone’s front door and then ran away before they could answer it.
They still play it these days – only now it’s called Parcel Force.” 🙂
Happy Xmas holics…Safe and merry times to you all…
Oskar: Delamain Vesper sounds a treat!
Holic: Congrats on a great blogspot…best to you and the blog for the New Year!
A round for the bar of Lagavulin 16 year old, perhaps?
Merry Solstice all – to those who celebrate today, to those who carry on celebrating from yesterday and to all the antipodeans on the beach (and 2 H2H on the beach in El Gouna LOL).
Nothing more to say about the last match – except disagree with somethings and agree with others. Onward and upward.
Will miss most of the West Ham game tomorrow because Danish TV is showing the full version of Bergman’s Fanny and Alexander this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon and it’s not often you get the chance to see the full version of The Greatest Film Ever Made (in my ever-so-‘umble opinion). But I’m so sure of the win, the game takes second priority. And a win means we will be back on top because ‘Pool won’t win at OilCity. If we’re really lucky, they’ll get a draw, which would be the perfect result. Personally, I think they’ll get well and truly turkey-stuffed.
Me – I have so much work on I just have to get on with it. Until 16.30 CET when TGFEM starts.
Back for Newcastle – that should be exciting.
Trev@21 Heh heh!
“Parcel force” sounds like an extreme verdion of “pushing the envelope” Trev 😉
dkgÕÕner,
I’d heard about that rude Danish television – and now they’re apparently showing “most of Bergman’s Fanny” !!!
I can’t honestly see Alexander getting much of that audience. 😉
Trev@27: Then you have heard wrongly. In general, Danish TV is just as boring, trivial, tedious and directed at the lowest common denominator as everything available in the UK and, for that matter, every other country in the world. There are of course the sports channels but you have to pay for them :).
But occasionally, an enlightened individual smuggles something truly magical into the programme schedules without the rest noticing. He/she will probably get the sack on Friday.
And just in case there are any Christmas humbuggers looking in – here’s a greeting for you too :

🙂
Trev – that clip is crude and freaking hilarious!!
Awesome.
A very merry festive period to all ‘holics and not least to the maestro himself who, without his endeavours and persona, would not have brought us together and participate in the best Arsenal blog in the blogosphere. He has managed to attract a vast range of people with whom I would happily spend an evening in a bar chewing the cud over all matters football and more. I have had the pleasure to meet some of you in person recently at the Tollie pre & post match – one of the highlights of the past year for me. Slainte,Cheers,Skol,Sauté,Nazdrave!
Up the Arsenal.
Trev…a separate greeting to you…..your humour has kept me verily amused throughout the year….a full pint awaits you whenever I next make the Tollie. Cheers.
Merry Christmas and Season’s Greetings to all! A round of Domaine De Lamarquette 1979 Armagnac on me…
dkg @ 24: That is a great choice! But can you not record Fanny and Alexander in the DVR and watch the match instead? 🙂
Great to see a fellow Bergman admirer… have never seen the full TV version of either the Fanny & Alexander or The Scenes from a Marriage …for many years I used to frantically search for his early movies and those two full versions which were all unavailable in US but now the early movies are all to be found sometimes even in excellent remastered edition by Criterion release…waiting for the same treatment for the full TV versions.
My favorite Bergman movies would be, in no particular order: Cries and Whispers, Persona, The Silence, Fanny and Alexander, Wild Strawberries, Autumn Sonata …
Seems like Depressed Gooner ought to be the one who likes Bergman movies. Just sayin’ 😉
Uply,
greetings returned. Many thanks for the kind words. 😉
Merry Christmas to all the holics. Cheers
dkg — Well well well, I stand corrected, the full length TV version of Fanny and Alexander was indeed released in US by Criterion but now out of stock in Amazon and will be restocked again: http://www.amazon.com/Alexander-Criterion-Collecton-Theatrical-Television/dp/B000305ZYS/ref=sr_1_24?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1387994052&sr=1-24&keywords=ingmar+bergman .
Don’t know whether this is available in Denmark, but if not I can ship one to you once it becomes available you if you so prefer.
Season’s Greetings to The Holic and Holics everywhere.
Merry Christmas
Happy Holidays ‘Holics.
Merry Christmas to you, ‘Holic, and to all those who frequent this fine establishment. As the late Dave Allen used to say, may your god go with you.
I’m beginning to suspect that this is a drinking club with a football problem.
Bottoms up, everyone!
Have a jolly one, ‘Holic and all you ‘holicolites.
For Bergman Purists
It’s got to be ‘The Seventh Seal’ which bizarrely I find very funny and moving.
The same death character appears in this other 20th century cultural masterpiece too: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HkZeUa53Jyg&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DHkZeUa53Jyg
Hahahah Trev that song is brilliant and reminded me of this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ36S3d1CaU (do not play in front of kids really:P)
Hopefully noone here will find it insulting or whatnot 😀
Merry Christmas, holics, each and every one. And thank you for the ongoing gift of this place, Guv’nor…it’s a rare oasis of sanity, humor, and compassion in an often crazy interweb world.
Happy holidays to you guys and yours.
Doc F: Yes, of course I could record it – I am recording it in fact while watching it. But my wife went to a great deal of trouble to arrange for me to see the Man City game live en route to a family gathering so I figure I can miss the Hammers game (I’ll actually get to see the first 25 minutes or so by which time it will be game over anyway).
And I’m a movie fan too so it’s no great hardship. Just a matter of priorities.
Merry Christmas to all the gunners out there. Cheers to you Holic for another wonderful year of posts and write ups. Hears to many more!
A Boxing Day Poem.
You sit upon the toilet,
With everything prepared,
You’re feeling quite excited
Although a little blood scared.
The huge amount of Christmas nosh,
Has turned into a log,
And now the fateful time has come.
To flush it down the bog.
But now you must expel the beast,
And so you start to strain,
You bite down on a piece of wood,
To take away the pain.
But oh my god it’s bloody huge
It’s like you’re giving birth!
You sweat and push and swear and shake
And strain for all your worth.
And then the magic moment comes,
That fills your soul with cheer.
A turd the size of King Kong’s arm
Emerges from your rear.
And like a bomb it hit’s the pan
Thus lightening the mood.
And making room inside your guts
For lots more Christmas food.
lol@ 48. talk about width!
The gift of love.
The gift of peace.
The gift of happiness.
May all these be yours at Christmas.
Merry Xmas all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks all for your humour and your kind words. Much needed and appreciated. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
