Alexis And Gunners Strikers Hit Form In Five Star Romp
Sep 26th, 2015 by 'holic
As some had hoped beforehand Arsene retained Per Mertesacker, Mathieu Flamini, and Aaron Ramsey from the squad team that won at the other end of Seven Sisters Road on Wednesday. We started with our attacking set-up. Flamini holding with Santi Cazorla in the box to box role, Aaron Ramsey and Alexis right and left, with Mesut Ozil playmaking behind Theo Walcott.
Arsenal must have been boosted by Manchester City’s second consecutive defeat in the lunchtime match. It gave us another opportunity to close the gap on the title favourites.
In the fifth minute Drinkwater got clear down Leicester’s right flank but his cross was diverted for a corner which the Gunners dealt with comfortably. Arsenal’s response came when Ozil and Alexis combined to set up Cazorla who saw his effort cleared off the line. Five minutes later we had a double let-off as Petr Cech made an excellent diving save to his left from Schlupp before Vardy drove against the foot of a post.
It was a temporary reprieve, Leicester broke from box to box with Drinkwater freeing the dangerous Vardy on the left flank. With Bellerin still up front the Leicester man outpaced Per Mertesacker before curling the ball beyond Cech’s left hand and inside the far post.
Alexis and Cazorla fashioned a response of sorts at the other end as both sides went for it, but the Spaniard’s effort was comfortably saved. Again the inevitable had only been delayed as Cazorla fed Walcott with a slide-rule pass and the England forward finally got his goal tally for the season back on trackΒ with an inch-perfect sidefoot in off the far post.
With little more than twenty minutes on the clock the up and down nature of football struck when Flamini was substituted by Mikel Arteta. The end to end nature of the contest had done for Wednesday’s hero, one way or another.
Just over halfway through the half Theo again burst clear down the left. He opted to cut in and feed Rambo but the Welshman’s first touch enabled the Leicester defenders to block his shot. By now it was clear that Ramsey was cutting inside more often leaving Hector Bellerin a long touchline to patrol in both attack and defence.
Having denied Vardy on another lightning break Arsenal responded in like again. Bellerin got to the touchline and crossed on the slide, Theo helped it on at the near post and presented Alexis with a tap in to an unguarded net at the back stick. Astonishing stuff.
Walcott was denied by a well-timed last ditch tackle, and Morgan just failed to get on the end of a dangerous free-kick. The game was remaining an open affair, somewhat surprisingly. Arsene must have been thinking long and hard about what to say at the break. The Foxes had shown just why they were top four material in these opening weeks of the season.
As the second-half got under way we wondered if the two would continue to slug it out toe to toe, or would Arsenal be a little more conservative in their approach, covering up to protect their lead and hitting with short, sharp counters. Certainly we looked as though we were trying to take the sting out of the match in the opening minutes of the half.
Having said that Walcott and Ozil constructed a double opening for Alexis, but the mass ranks of blue shirts were able to snuff out the attack. A couple of minutes later the Chilean was denied again by a desperate Huth block. Next up he was picked out at the far post but his header was deflected wide for a corner.
Mahrez, so impressive this season, galloped past Monreal but was dispossessed by the industrious Ozil. A tame potshot from distance by Schlupp was Leicester’s first effort of note after the break. Straight down the other end and Ozil produced an astonishing chip onto the head of Alexis who made no mistake. 1-3, and the travelling faithful in euphoria.
Ozil himself would get the chance to bury the ‘holic pound, now a possibility, but another last-ditch block kept the gap at two goals. At the other end King fired wide when set up by the substitute, Ulloa. Ozil once again turned creator, feeding Theo for another shot that Schmeichel was equal too. Then the ‘keeper saved comfortably from Rambo, surprisingly given time and space on the edge of the box by a tiring Foxes back line.
Arsenal were protecting the football much better than we have seen of late, cherishing it’s possession. Undeterred, Rambo tried another shot from outside the box, only to see Theo divert it wide of the near post.
Ranieri made his last throw of the dice, sending on Kramaric for Drinkwater. It enabled their first spell of sustained pressure of the half. That was the signal for Olivier Giroud to be sent on for the excellent Walcott. A different type of outlet for a defence facing it’s sternest test of the half.
Again though Arsenal’s response was breathtaking, Alexis completing his hat-trick in quite astonishing fashion, powering in a right foot drive from distance, just as I checked to see if my cash-out option had reached three figures! I’d far sooner have had the 1-4 frankly. Goal difference may yet prove to be huge at the season’s end.
Cech showed his powers of concentration with a string of brave saves with five minutes left, then got a break as Mertesacker cleared after the ‘keeper had mishandled. With two minutes left, after Cech had pulled offΒ an unbelievable stop from Kramaric, Vardy was free to place the ball in the far corner. “We support our local team” howled what was left of the home support, clearly unfamiliar with the business of Estate Agency and the freedom of movement they should be enjoying.
Giroud’s first opportunity came and went. This match was far from fizzling out like a damp squib. The added minutes were frantic, and Giroud claimed his third goal with a superb finish to Monreal’s cut back, thus doubling Arsenal’s Premier League goalscoring output for the season. Β You couldn’t have wished for more at the start of the afternoon. 2-5.
ARSENAL ARE BACK.

Speed record, ‘holic? I almost forgot how entertaining a game like that could be. π
Alexis HaT-Trick!
Giroud and Theo both score… brilliant play from both teams, we are on our way back…!
π
C.l? No?
“Excellent Walcott”? Them’s good words to read.
Been out, missed it all. Hopefully the goalfest means Game of the Day later on.
Happy with the result ,especially given they hit us first. . 3 in the bag. Long road ahead. COYRs!!!!

You’re mighty fast out of the blocks today, Guvna.
Must go read what I watched on a reasonable stream.
Proof-read and edited I should add, ‘holic, but I did see a few mis-spellings the first time around. π
Alexis’ third goal echoes his great FA Cup goal against Villa, both scored on the short side as I recall, but I liked this one better because of his deft touch straight from the throw in to go around the Leicester defender and then the thunderous shot from so far out the keeper didn’t think he would even attempt it. Well oiled machine all of a sudden?
Holic- a superfast report and a great report on what seems a wonderful performance. Alexis was bound to get going soon and this will give him a great boost. Not many teams will win like this at Leicester
Fine report Guvna.
Love your pithy observation about the locals without the drive to get on their bikes to avoid chasing foxes. You are reaching your pithy authorial form just as the boys reach their form on the park.
Arsenal are indeed back.
A toast to our Renaissance on the bar for each denizen of this fine establishment.

You are definitely on the performance-enhancing malts, ‘Holic. Another fine report in short order.
Three points emphatically taken where we might have come away with a singleton and not have been disappointed to do so. The hat-trick will do Alexis no end of good.
I see normal service has resumed!
π
Thougjt that Theo wasnt half bad up front.
Monreal – quite a game.
Well done gunners.
Now lets stomp those long ball mercenaries Chevy-united next week.
And Ozil. Another good one from him.
We watched the same stream, Holic. Excellent and rapid summary of a very entertaining game. Good performances all round from the ten men in red. The performance of the eleventh, the man between the posts was very important to the eventual comfortable outcome.
The Boys from the Bus Stop looking distinctly average up at Newcastle. How far has Cesc’s game fallen from its heights in Arsenal red? Pedro wouldn’t get on our bench.
Cheers all.
Agreed BtM. Chelski looking very average. Nothing up top without their wind-up merchant.
Saffas romping home. England v Wales next. Then MotD. Wonderful, if stationary day. π
Excellent write-up, Holic,
you must have that extra fast electronic typewriter oiled up.
Haven’t seen anything – gave up looking for frozen streams.
We beat Tottenham Hotspur – And Leicester. π
I’ve not even read the post or any drinks.
But I am watching the Chelski game. Fabregas has just let his man have a free header to score Newcastle’s second goal. It couldn’t happen to a nicer bloke.
Those who wanted us to re-sign him know who they are. I am glad they did not get their way on that one!
How long til he gets a Rooney-esque hair transplant?
Sky’s Game of the Day at 8pm is our match. Lovely π
Love how the Totts score four and we get FIVE. π
Wow. Have Arsenal been waiting for Holic to hit such imperious form before they follow suit? A top report.
I saw the last half-hour on a decent enough stream. Very pleasing.
At times in the last three weeks I have had money on both an Alexis hat-trick and a 5-2 win to us. I felt the goals coming, but I had 4-0 today, of course.
Glad the bar is agreed about Cesc- a little bit the cross-posting. He’s now sporting a head bandage. I didn’t see what happened but presumably some bar-code could no longer fight the urge to clobber him round the face. I sympathise deeply.
Jam strangling Chelsea cunts.
This time of year requires a bit of diplomacy and negotiation with ones partner doesn’t it? I spent the morning wandering around dress shops and craft fairs , the afternoon tinkering with jobs I was ordered to do weeks ago so that I could combine rugby and football this evening.
Sad to watch the Chavs scrape a point but they don’t look good defensively at all and as mentioned earlier Cesc is mediocre at the moment. Not a bad weekend. Two points off the top and after four successive away games we have two important home ones to come. Win them both and we will have real momentum.
Moaninho moaned about the referee again in his post match interview… This guy is unbelievable. The referee won him the points against us by sending off Gabriel and giving a free kick that never was for their first goal. Even today the free kick for their equaliser was a very soft one and yet the special moaner feels that his team had a raw deal from the referee!! I guess he will soon want the referee to kick the ball for them!!
Anyday when City and Chelsea drop points despite their millions is a fantastic day but Sanchez’ hattrick makes it even better…

Congrats to Alexis: he is the first player to ever score hat-tricks in the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga. Great achievement!
Great report of what was a very exciting football match. Leicester played well, and most importantly with great spirit and without any cynical approach.
After the second goal Alexis looked like he believed he could get one more. Would have been nice if Ozil had scored a goal today, or Rambo. Both are in need of one. That assist from Ozil though, wonderful!
Theo I thought was surprisingly robust in his hold-up play, and as he has been lately very intelligent with his runs.
Monreal had an excellent game keeping Mahrez quiet.
So in first seven matches, despite a very iffy start, our main three goal-scorers have 8 combined goals. Giroud’s finish was very well-taken too.
Happy about the win today. I have been impressed with Leicester since last season. They are fun to watch.
Why do smaller teams (so to speak) find it easier to score against the likes of Chelsea, Man U & Man C, than we do against these same teams? Is it because they change their game plan according to their opponent’s weakness/strength
& we don’t. For crying out loud Wenger game plan to exploit something against whoever you are playing in any given week. The other thing I have noticed over the years is that in any season the other big teams will take at least 4 points from our 2 seasonal league games, & if we are lucky we can only manage a measly 1 point from the same 2 seasonal league games. I really get irritated with that. That has to change. & I am out like yesterday.
Chel$ki just don’t look the same when Mike Dean doesn’t make the squad. :))

Rumour has it Mike Dean is refereeing the game next week against Australia.
I feel strongly for Mourinho , he deserves our compassion .
Top stuff Guvna and a what a superb game of football that was! Leicester are now my second team! Incredible support from their fans and a gutsy and entertaining side. Ranieri’s a gentleman; even if he is a former Chav! Leicester’s not an easy place to go but the lads were incredibly fluid and slick today up front! Top performances from all the lads but I have to give a special big-up for the front 5; frightening movement with pace and slick passing! 30+ goals each this term for both “Alexis Baby” and Feo14! Our season’s finally started! Up the Arse! Come On You Brilliant Gunners!
We still miss Coq. I hope he’ll be available against Man U
Fantastic game, courage, skill ,end to end excitement – what a result.
Let’s all start with “Hen wlad fy Nhadau…
Overall a very good game by the boys in red and wh… err, blue and some sort of goldish colour. Nothing seemed to work for Γzil initially but then all of a sudden it clicked and he was involved in everything and was just a different class. That pass for Alexis’ second goal… oh my! Absolute perfection. Alexis also brilliant, of course. And a mention must go to Monreal who just seems to get better and better with every game and surey must now be considered one of the top three left backs in the league.
I love the BFG but I must say I think he will have to settle for being second choice to Gabriel in not too long. I am quite convinced that we would not have conceded that first goal with Gab on the pitch as he would most likely have made up enough ground to catch Vardy. That said, that goal apart Per used his experience well and there was a situation quite close to the end of the game where he made an absolute mug of a Leicester player on a long ball by positioning himself as he was going to head the ball back towards Cech, thus making said opponent change the direction he was running in, and then at the last moment turned the other way and now with all the time in the world chested the ball down and played an easy pass some 20 yards up to Bellerin who could start an attack.
I have been a bit critical of Theo lately but it does look as his running is becoming a bit more clever. The last two games he hasn’t just stood level with the defenders and then started running, he’s done more running from deep to make him harder to mark and he also made a few decoy runs. Look at his movement for our third goal, he doesn’t just stop when he doesn’t get the ball like he’s done too many time this season. Instead, he kept moving and caused some degree of chaos in the Leicester defence which Alexis and Γzil used to full effect.
Props also to Arteta for playing a very clever game and using his experience to compensate somewhat for his lack of speed. That said, we do need the Coq back because I don’t think Arteta can play more then every now and then. He’s been a great servant to the club but we can not change the fact that age is eating away at his abilities.
My hat is also off to Leicester who really try to win games by playing their own game and don’t just sit back and hope for a lucky break. I think this is going to serve them well in the long run and unless they run themselves absolutely ragged too early (always a risk with such a high-intensity playing style and not too deep a squad) they will be nowhere near relegation come May.
Anyway, I have been waiting for a game when we start taking a few more of our chances. We’ve created quite many chances all season but have converted far too few of them but as long as you keep creating you are eventually going to start to score.
In other news, those who proclaimed Man City champions after the first five games may want to have a re-think. I can’t quite work out how the hell ManUre have made it to the top of the league but I suppose still not having played any of the other expected top four teams does help. Sure, they’ve played Totnum and Liverpool at home but they fluked the Totnum win and face an injury ravaged Liverpool (no Sturridge, no Coutinho, no Henderson iirc) and both at home.
And if Mike Dean had done his job instead of being a complete see you next Tuesday, we would most likely have been top of the league now.
Right, drinks on the bar for everyone!
Cheers for the report ‘holic.
I watched that hugely entertaining game on a pretty dodgy stream. On full screen mode our players were very hard to distinguish due to that minging away shirt, so the game was viewed in a smaller on screen window.
Real end to end stuff in the first half and I felt we rode our luck a bit at 1 nil down, but the equaliser was a very well taken counter. Theo will rightly take the plaudits for a most improved performance, but I find it highly unlikly that he will be afforded so much room in future fixtues, Leicester played a suicididly high line. We edged the first half with goals, but it really could of went either way.
The second half we were a lot better, we controlled the game and were on top for large periods, Leicester were still trying to grab something on the counter, but our defending was more solid. The Alexis show kicked in and we had the game all but wrapped up, so it was a bit dissapointing that we threw them a lifeline in the shape of their second goal. We were lucky that the original cross from that movement didn’t result in them hitting the net, then Cech made some fine stops, but our failure to mop up cost us. No disaster because moments later OG restored our three goal cushion, but, none the less, still something we need to work on.
All in all a very satisfactory afternoon, a welcome 3 points and a return to the form that most of us think we shoud be capable of on a regular basis.
Up The Arse.
*taps mike*
Is this thing on?
Who you calling “a thing”?
Man Utd top of the league?
Coquelin back next week and we’re having them.
It’s been too long.
We must ruin them.
With our Coq.
A fit Coq would certainly help us a lot against that lot tho’ Mikel did very well yesterday.
Nice to get the scoring boots on.
Thought our pressing was generally good too, except maybe on the edges of our penalty area. I don’t think Vardy would have had anywhere near as much time and space as he did, for either goal, had Coquelin been in there. Need to correct that next week or we will find the pie muncher in those same situations and he does like to damage us – in whichever way he can,
The shirts are awful – look like they need a good wash.
Great to see Alexis back on scoring form – a 5-2 win away from home has to be just fine, if a bit injurious to the Holic pound. π
Anyone know who the referee is for Man Utd.
Oliver or Clattenberg I hope.
Trev
Mike Dean?

I was screaming, “Has anyone got a sniper rifle?”
A custard pie launcher would be more appropriate for a clown like him.
This is true. A much more appropriate response.

Arsene shakes his hand wearing one of those old palm buzzer devices. π
Actually I think he should have had one of those for the handshake with the reptile.
*Dean’s carpooling buddy, Diego Costa, gives doors a truly terrifying look and they jump back on*
*Sepp Blatter offers Dean Β£1,000,000 for the car, and Β£2,000,000 for Costa*
I was at a wedding in the wilds of Suffolk yesterday afternoon with zero phone coverage so did not have a clue what was going on in the game – unfortunately there were cocky Spuds in attendance at the wedding, who spent the afternoon winding me up about their lunchtime result over Citeh and our imminent “humbling” at Leicester.
Once the speeches and wedding meal were done and dusted I walked about a mile in the dark across farmers field to find some phone reception (much to the wife’s disgust) – Fair ran back to show the deluded fools our result…
Impressive commitment there New Day Raisins. Well done. I hope your shoes survived.
I notice that the petition to stop Dean officiating any other Arsenal games has sailed past the 100,000 mark which means it must be discussed in Parliament. I think they may have better things to sort out there but I think it will be interesting to see where this one goes.
Glad I signed it those 56,000 times now?
Well played, Raisins!
Ok, I’ll make it Raisins To Be Cheerful – Part 3.
Mathieu Flamini listed on physioroom dot com as having a hamstring injury – no return date.
FMOB. ?
A ‘ hammy’ is at least four weeks isn’t it Trev?
Excellent match report Speedy Gonzales. What a difference a week makes – who said a week in football is a long time (I know Trev, I just did,). It was a great match to watch and nice to come up against a team that went for it and by doing so, played to our attacking strengths. I suspect our next two opponents won’t be so accommodating. I agree with others that Nacho has blossomed into an awesome defender – that spell as a makeshift CB seems to have improved him no end – there’s no a better LB in the EPL at the moment.
Time for making some bubbles squeak on Wednesday.
Trev….FMOB, blimey that’s one I’ve not heard in many moons π
Well played @56 New Day Raisins! No unsatisfying wining and graping in the dark for a signal for you! Back to the Hotel California for the happy couple’s fruitcake! π
Excellent endeavor, New Day Raisins. Wives tend not to understand the importance of humbling cocky Spuds so all credit to you. π
NDR@56: Exemplary.
Trev@60: Dear, oh dear! π
I’m already nervous about the weekend’s match against Manure.
Happy Monday all.
Fabulous result with some excellent performances. I’ve never been a big fan of Theo but some of his movement was clearly a step up from where he’s been. His pace and movement in the lead up to the second goal was particularly impressive. Unfortunately, Ramsey was a bit rubbish again and I don’t believe he deserves his spot on current form.
So, I’m not getting too carried away just yet – as others have noted above, there won’t be too many teams like Leicester who attack us in the way they did and leave the space for us to weave our magic in the way we did. Let’s see how we go in the next two games where buses are likely to be parked. Two wins there and we really could be on a roll but still happy in the meantime.
UTA.
Uply – heh! @ the squeaking bubbles. π
TTG – yep, a hamstring would normally be around three to four weeks for a small (Grade 1) tear. A very minor strain could be two weeks, a serious tear (Grade 2) about six weeks or, in the case of poor old Podolski, where the entire thing exploded into molecule sized chunks, about five and a half months.
The problem is that once the tear / strain has healed, he then has to get back to full training. The reintroduction to the team is normally quite slow and carefully handled so that, once the player is ‘back’, he immediately breaks down and is out for another four months.
Morning Ned ! π
Morning all. Can we get tomorrow out of the way before worrying what might happen next Sunday? My poor little numbed brain cannot cope with the possibilities.
Indeed Guvna.
That hackneyed old chestnut (no, not you Trev) is recycled regularly for the reason that it’s associated with success – let’s just take each game as it comes.
The game against Olympiakos is a MUST WIN if we want to get out of this group now that we have thrown 3 winnable points away to Dynamo Zagreb.
The Greeks have been immersed in match fixing scandals (thank DB10 that Jasper Carrot cannot referee our match) and their very participation in this year’s CL is a scandal that raises major questions about the ethics of Platini’s UEFA. They are also notoriously poor travellers. Nonetheless let’s not take our eye off the ball tomorrow evening and have another ‘Monaco experience’. Let’s not spare any thought about Sunday until we have put the Greeks to the sword.
Focus, focus, focus (or was that Fagus, Dr C?).
Go win, Arsenal.
Agree with Bath and the Guv’nor. Olympiakos is the only game we can focus on now. By mucking up in Zagreb we are now in a situation where beating Olympiakos home and away and Zagreb at home is most likely a must unless we manage an unexpected win against Bayern. Anything but a win tomorrow and we have put ourselves in a really sticky situation.
I think we’ll beat Bayern at home, Lars. Are you coming over for that one?
It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if we did, BtM. Bayern are a bloody good team but we can definitely beat them at home. It will take a good game of course, but certainly doable.
Not coming over for that one, though. Not sure exactly when my next visit will be, it depends on things which are out of my control which is a bit frustrating.
bath @72,
I resemble that remark ! ?
In the sober light of day (Adnams Ghost Ship was on tap) I am starting to wonder how I would explained my trespassing to any farmers who may have wondered what the hell I was up to…
Indeedy.
CL now should be the main focus.
We then get one day extra rest then our upcoming PL opponents, who I shall not mention. π
NDR….trampling all over Manure is normally a good thing π
The moment Leicester set up to a 4-4-2, knew we were winning the game. If you allow our midfield time on the ball, they will pick you apart and so they did.
Sanchez gets the headlines and deservedly so, he being in form matters the most to us and it gives me so much joy seeing him play, never gives up does he and it is that attitude that makes him a winner.
Ozil imperious but then i just love him so whatever he does i just say wow, hahha. Special mention to Monreal, Maharez was no where to be seen and thats credit to our LB who has been tremendous the whole year. Santi had a stellar game as well.
Per is the worry, both the goals were his mistake, the first one badly out of position, the second one not closing down and staying back. He has been very good for us but his time is up in the league atleast for the pace is unrelenting and he is been found out more often than not. Gabriel should be our first choice now on along with Kos( loved the new song for him).
Olympiakos is a must win and we shall win it. Can we round of a great week by beating the league leaders please. United are not even good to be any where near the top but then points dont lie. Last season we battered them the first half and our lack of finishing and De gea kept them in the game and then as ever we crumbled against shrek and co in the end. We cannot allow that to happen. We are better than them and need to show it this sunday be beating the hell out of them.
Till then lets have a comfortable 2-0 tomorrow night.
Alexis Sanchez baby, Alexis Sanchez ohooooooooooooo.
Did anybody see Theo muscling/ninjaing Huth off the ball and creating a chance for himself in the second half? He deserved another goal but the two strikers are both contributing in their own different ways and that is a big positive. More goals please Theo and Olivier now Alexis is taking the pressure and attention away from you.
Vinay –
Mertesacker was excellent at Tottenham as far back as, er, last Wednesday – and he played out of position to accommodate Chambers.
No, he is not quick but, personally, I don’t blame him for the goals on Saturday. Vardy was in a position, both times, where Coquelin would normally have been straight on him as he cut in.
So blame Coquelin.
Oh, hang on ……. I must try thinking before I type ……
dot com reporting that Coquelin is looking good for tomorrow.
Flamini amd Arteta to have scans but their injuries are both a matter of “days”.
Erm, aren’t you supposed to do the scans – if you’re lucky enough to have such instant access – before the prognosis ?
Just wondering. Wouldn’t be the first time ………
Good news from the Tweather report
Just back from 3 days in Catalunya where it was soon discovered if you tell waiters in most establishments Ronaldo takes it up the arse it goes a long way to securing a free drink π Lovely People them Caralans ! Right – Citeh at home, currently down for Saturday 19 December at 3. Obviously this will change – but, Steve-O from Singapore will be over, so trying to make my best to make that. Got invited to my grandson’s eighth birthday party on 19 Dec
It is at the Amex where he is in the pre- Academy . So I desperately hope the Citeh game is moved to Sunday.
Great news Esso, and Steve-o.
Less great is that Anthony Taylor is refereeing on Sunday. Methinks Riley is extracting revenge for the outing of his darling Dean. Not good π
Anthony Taylor is for some unfathomable reason regarded highly by the refereeing establishment. This underlines the dearth of quality at present but also the way in which the ambitious little refereeing tykes are prepared to dance to the PGMOL tune.
His performance at our place in that Villa game still gives me nightmares.
no it doesn’t
i put it to you m’lud
that you are merely still
mildly irked
π
TTG, “this underlines the dearth of quality”
or the death of quality ?
Ignore cba, it still gives me nightmares too.
Mildly irked, indeed.
Working on an anagram for that one. π
Anthony Taylor couldn’t referee a willy fight.

I’m mildly irked that West Ham were given a corner wrongly in 1964! I take these things very personally.
That performance by Taylor matched the Graham Poll game against Newcastle in 2001 when the referee fundamentally changed the result of the game. You may remember Thierry Henry apoplectic with rage at the end. It was more than an honest mistake or series of mistakes. It moved into an area where you felt the referee had a personal agenda. We still won the league that season . We didn’t quite match the feat in 2012/13.
