FA Overturn Everything But The Result At Chelsea Ahead Of A NLD
Sep 22nd, 2015 by 'holic
Well, I certainly didn’t anticipate starting a NLD preview with news of an unprecedented burst of common sense being shown by the Football Association, but the news that Gabriel’s sending off at the bus stop in Fulham has been overturned is jaw-dropping. Particularly in as much as the incompetent Mike Dean is now likely to be demoted from the Premier League list as a result, according to David Hytner in the Guardian.
The authorities have also handed out a retrospective three match ban to the loathsome Costa for his assaults on Laurent Koscielny, thus hanging Dean out to dry for getting all the major calls wrong. Chelsea will sulk, but at the end of the day they will be happier at the outcome as they have the three points for the win Dean’s erroneous judgment calls enabled.
It means that that Gabriel is available for the COCup visit to the marshlands of N17, and although Arsene may have prepared for the tie without him I hope that he will rethink in the light of a remarkable decision. The Brazilian is establishing himself as something of a minder of his colleagues, and that could be invaluable in the white hot heat of the fiercest derby.
The selection will indeed be an interesting one. Arsene went with a youthful line-up for our last CoCup visit to the same venue five years ago and we triumphed 1-4 after extra-time. With Tottenham expected to start with a strong line-up, and us looking not to extend a two match losing streak, Arsene hinted at an experienced side earlier today.
“We go game by game so I will make changes, for sure. How many? I’ve not decided yet. It will be quite an experienced squad with one or two younger players.”
The hosts are without Bentaleb, Dembélé and Mason, but Arsenal too will be missing Francis Coquelin, Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky, and the suspended Santi Cazorla. Despite this both midfields look strong, and it will be interesting to see if we can get back to a fast accurate passing game, so lacking in recent weeks.
The other deciding factor could be which of the out-of-touch strikers finds their scoring boots. Kane is without a goal for the hosts this season and Olivier Giroud has been far from convincing, although he has struck a couple of times.
The ‘holic pound
So many variables make a call on the ‘holic pound trickier than most. Paddy Power have an interesting best price on Mikel Arteta to score at any time at 13/2. With Santi suspended and Coquelin ruled out he seems assured of a start and will probably be the penalty taker. Move quickly if you agree. I doubt those odds will last.
To those travelling to the match allow plenty of time for your trip as there is also World Cup rugby on at Stratford. Here’s to a safe and successful trip for you all.
Cheers, ‘holics.

Goal and first.
Ave it…
You might need to check the previous drinks to get that one.
🙂
Don’t forget to mention the Stanley bonus H.
Cheers H! Whats happened to the font on here? Or do I really need to go to Specsavers.
Sue them for all they’ve got Dr. Eva. In other words, for a sharkmouthlike chunk of Abramovich’s overstuffed wallet. 🙂
http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/sep/22/chelsea-eva-carneiro-jose-mourinho
Dr. Eva winning her case could be our ace in the hole.
Hasn’t changed for me Esso. How are you viewing? (Device and browser) I’ll investigate. WordPress has recently updated and may have an impact on some combinations?
Still reeling from Saturday, FA U-turn is nice, Dean demoted even better if it happens he’ll be free to support Spurs and Chelsea from the stands. Thank you West Ham too.
13/2 is a bit risky considering Chambers DM’s potential but hey if that works…
@Steve: It could be worse really: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/sep/17/manchester-united-malcolm-glazer-children-15m-year
Chelsea appealing the 3 match ban for Costa.
How do you install a wordpress update without screwing up the theme? Or is it a standard template here?
You never really know what to expect with the league cup. It’s not a competition that bothers me too much although I have enjoyed seeing the kids get a run out. I’m not so sure we will see tomorrow re personnel. I just hope they all come out of the game unscathed.
I was at the game 5 years ago. It was horrible in every respect. The brain dead fuckwits that frequent the shithole were as repulsive as ever. We were dreadful and only the sight of Barndoor chining TGSTEL brought a smile to the face.
I won’t be anywhere near the toilet tomorrow. I’m heading to Cardiff to watch the Australia Fiji match with 8 other work mates. I was really looking forward to it until I received an e mail telling me to expect two hour delays on the way home???
Maureen’s stock really has stooped to a new low. First MOTM Costa is banned. Then Gabriel has his card overturned. Now his Doctor has left the club and he is being slaughtered for it. Quite right too. I would love to see her take them for millions…… And then join us.
What a despicable place the bus stop is.
For those going tomorrow, stay safe.
Matt. Interesting read. I wish I had been given such pocket money.
I still don’t think it excuses Stanley though. It just gives more ammunition for those as and when it does not go quite to plan.
Costa ban. Gabriel cleared. Its unanimous now: Mike Dean is an idiot.
Good question, Cynic. I am on a theme. Never been smart enough to think about that. The day it doesn’t just work I’m definitely out of the game. 🙁
Good stuff Guvna! Could things be looking up off the pitch for the Arse?! Let’s hope it starts now on the pitch at the LWCs. No better place!
Unlike you Steve T, I’m looking for the Quadruple this term! Up the Arse day and night! COYBG!
Excellent news today. I did not expect that. Fine preview Guvna. I do hope MA8 finds his legs tomorrow and gets himself a couple of goals to deliver an Arsenal win and a Holic windfall.
Be safe those venturing down the seamy end of the Seven Sisters Road.
COYG
Alexis to finally shake off the willies tomorrow. And Theo – say it softly – to score a couple.
Steve all well this end.
But have had to give you a retrospective 4 match ban from previous drinks, for an assist of an assist of an assist, for your fluke strike into the top corner.!!
No idea what will happen tomorrow, although i think Per will play to get him up to match fitness for Saturday at Leicester in case Gab gets a 1 match ban.
Although i really hope common sense applies, and he gets a fine and a warning.
Whilst i really can’t be arsed about the C1C,I think we have to pick a strong team for the game, not least for Club morale after 2 defeats in a row.
3 would have the media pundits and the Wenger out brigade in full voice about a club in crisis, and wailing about Arsene not signing 26 players during the transfer window.!!
It is always a ferocious battle at the Lane whatever competition we are playing them in.
The Spuds i am sure will have one eye on the lunchtime kick off against Man City on Saturday, but i still expect them to field a near full strength side,as they won’t want to lose at home to us.
Should be a battle royal, and let’s hope we are the ones smiling at the end.
Are you saying Alexis needs toilet training at his age, Homer?
Does he usually wipe it on a passing homeless person, like Adebayor used to do?
(excuse me chaps, I’m in the midst of a strong tea induced euphoria)
I have just been sent the link to the below. It’s one of the funniest things I seen in ages. I hope it works okay.
https://m.dreamteamfc.com/c/mourinho-wenger-forbidden-love/
Cheers for the preview H.
Steve. Absolutely hilarious. Thankyou. Just thankyou.
Cheers, Holic.
Steve T @19 – ?????
Me, I am a tripper…
Gregoire – from previous, re playing a CB at DM.
In a word, no, with the possible exception of Chambers if they have been training him to play there.
I did an answer on this a while back – only my opinion but I don’t think Arsene would try it, otherwise he probobly would have done by now.
They are quite different positions. DM requires receiving the ball from all angles, facing any direction, turning and passing quickly and, very importantly, accurately, and working right across the width of the pitch.
It also requires a different type of fitness. DM will have a great aerobic fitness and endurance, as he will have to be constantly on the move with interval sprints to get to make tackles and interceptions.
The CB will not have the same aerobic capacity. It is a position that requires short sprints but usually with relatively long recovery periods between.
Nobody expected the Spanish Inquisition or the FA to show unprecedented common sense in their view of the match last Saturday. The most surprising thing is that they are clearly suggesting the ‘ kick’ by Gabriel was effectively simulation by Costa. That is a big call….a totally correct call but it is implicitly and explicitly critical of Dean and reduces his credibility as a referee without good reason.
I was at a dinner tonight sitting next to a Chelsea fan of eminent common sense and he believes that the scenarios in which Mourinho’s reign imploded last time is starting to recreate itself. He thinks Abramovich still craves ‘ Arsenal football’ and part of Jose’s obsession with Wenger is because we are held up as an example of the quality Abramovich wants Chelsea to produce. He feels under appreciated and my friend suggests things will kick off especially if results are indifferent.
This may be fanciful thinking but it might explain the demeanour of Mourinho. Certainly his ridiculous defence of Costa has exposed him as a fantasist and someone economical with the truth.
As for the Spuds I think the mood at our place will lift but they are favourites at home. Much depends on the strength of the team we play because they desperately want to beat us. I’d still take a win in Saturday over tomorrow but ideally we will win both. If Iwobi plays that will be interesting. Kamara may be on the bench. Too much to ask that we have another Coq on our hands? ?
Fantastic turn-around for Gabriel and, yes, I would play him against the spuds. Give him an immediate opportunity to impress with a new cool attitude to intimidation (which he will surely get from everyone in upcoming matches) in a second string game. Otherwise he could be champing at the bit for weeks with Per fit again.

Costa’s three game ban is a cop out. Chelsea are apparently awaiting the “written reasons” for it. Stupid twats.
Good to see their doctor has walked.
Completely humiliated by Mourinho for fulfilling her duties, actually her obligations, towards Hazard once the referee had called her onto the pitch.
Another marvellous piece of judgement by the specialist in stupidity.
Noosa Gooner )previous drinks) … you can’t use American baseballers playing 162 games a year as a criticism of Lars contention that footballers would do it tough playing twice a week.
If you want to bring baseball into it the best comparison would be with cricket, where players regularly play six hours a day for four days straight and for five in tests. In both sports most of the playing time is spent sitting in the pavilion/dugout or standing around in the field. 🙂
Öskar
Mourinho : “When you (the doctor) go to a player on the pitch you nust be sure they have a serious problem”.
Actually, no you mustn’t you ignorant prick.
According to the rules of the Football Medical Association, once the referee has called the medics onto the pitch, the player becomes the responsibility solely of the doctor.
So the referee decides if and when the doctor goes “to a player on the pitch” – not the doctor hisself, or herself.
Just to be absolutely clear – in case you’re dropping in Jose – if the referee calls the medics onto the pitch, they MUST go onto the pitch, even if they don’t personally feel it is necessary.
Geddit ?
Oskar
My American baseball response to Lars was of course a throwaway line, although I still think that preparing for and participating in 162 games over a six month season is not to be lightly dismissed.
Lars’ response focussed more on the mental requirements and focus needed for elite sport.
Personally I don’t believe that requirement is any less than needed for all sorts of jobs – doctors, firemen, police, pilots surgeons etc, and they all seem to cope with the associated stress on a daily basis.
I would be disappointed if my life-saving operation was delayed next Wednesday because the doctor was mentally getting over something he did the previous Saturday.
Irrespective of this, I stand by my original contention that professional athletes, handsomely paid, should be able to play two games of football a week and that we should play our strongest available team against the Spuds tonight and worry about Leicester after that. After all, we played a weakened team against Zagreb with a view to Chelsea and look at how all that turned out.
UTA.
Point taken Noosa. But there’s more to it than mental requirements and focus. Football (especially playing teams like the chavs and potters) is much more of a contact sport than baseball, and muscles and joints need all the time they can get to recover from the extensions involved in stretching to their limit for balls or in tackles, many of which end in collisions of one kind or another.
I’m sure the willingness to play twice a week is there for most players, but tempered with a desire NOT to risk injury until the body is as ready as the mind.
I don’t mind too much who plays tomorrow, just as long as we remind the swamp dwellers who’s the boss.
Öskar
Font seems back to normal here, cheers.
Steve, that game you are referring to wasn’t five years ago. It was seven and a half! Time flies…
Noosa: “I would be disappointed if my life-saving operation was delayed next Wednesday because the doctor was mentally getting over something he did the previous Saturday.”
Even life-saving operations may be routine and not require you to be super-focused. But it if was a very difficult procedure then yes, I would rather have the doctor be as rested as humanly possible and certainly not have done two identical multi-hour procedures demanding 100% focus and concentration the previous two days.
Hmmm. When I had bypass surgery 20 years ago I asked the surgeon (jokingly) if he’d done one before. He said he did an average of five a week (up to five-hours of intense concentration per operation). I was mildly surprised by this, although not unduly concerned. In fact I was more interested in being a part of it than worrying about the possibility I might end up being a part of nothing at all if it went wrong. Everyone should experience these thrills at some point in their lives, it’s stimulating.
No, I was more interested in multiplying by five what I was paying him for his time. Wayne Rooney would have been jealous!
Öskar
Gabriel had his red card overturned because apparently we were able to prove that there was absolutely no contact made. If that is the case then that makes Costa an even bigger cunt for his reaction. I genuinely did not think that was possible.
Lars, thanks for that. The memory still haunts me.
Sue their bollocks off Eva!
Fcuk off Costa and the Moaning one!
Up Gabriel and Up The Arse!
😀
Speaking of routine during difficult operations: I have recently saw an interview with one of the top czech cardio-surgeons and he said that it has to be routine in a sense that the team performing the operation exactly knows what they are doing. Every operation has the exact same timeline how it should go, given there are no complications on the way.
And yeah, as Oskar said, he mentioned that he does roughly 5 heart surgeries a week and it used to be even more.
I am, frankly, gobsmacked, albeit in a good way, by the FA’s decisions on Gabriel and Costa. As I said in the previous drinks, I thought it would go badly for us and well for Costa. The evidence must have been overwhelming to induce such an outbreak of common sense at the FA. Only negative is that Chelsea still has the three points. I hope that doesn’t turn out to be critical at the end of the season.
Reports surfacing that Arsene and his wife are going their separate ways.
They haven’t been happy for a while apparently.
Hopefully this doesn’t resurrect the horrible chants that followed Arsene around for many years.
Gabriel had his red card overturned because apparently we were able to prove that there was absolutely no contact made.
So what happened to the concept of intent?
I’m not saying he should still be banned but if you aim a kick at a player and miss, the intention is still there and it’s still violent conduct.
Sounds like balls to me to cover for terrible refereeing.
The NLD aye?
Again, haver to stay ‘focused, agile, mobile, dynamic, quick without our foot on the handbrake’
Normally I would say that we have to earn the right to play. But as it’s the scum, I have to say that we have to demand our respect.
Another small club who, if organised and quicker to the punch, could cause us problems. Otherwise, I do not expect anything but a hard thought test with resulting progression to the next round for our team.
Let’s see!
Red Army!!
@ 38 – I hope not. break up’s are one of the hardest.
better a breakup than a breakdown*

This is the end for Costa in the EPL . Every time he touches the ball , there will be ringing boo in the stadium .
Costa doesn’t have the skill of Suarez and it will be difficult for people to look the other way .
Chelsea will be faced with a very difficult season . The club is now marred in scandals .
Screw Costa, can FA order a replay for the game as well? we would have atleast got a point of it. Not happening and i need to move on.
Move on we shall to the mickey mouse cup, some will say our realistic chance of winning a trophy, i feel our chance to play without fear or favour. Just go for it boys, dribble, shoot from distance, fancy passes, anything, you get the point.
Time for Alexis Sanchez to get his season on track. He has been rushed back is obvious but feel he should be in the groove now and he needs a goal to set this right. What better game than this one. Ozil also needs to have a big game and again he will be scrutinized for every touch he takes and every move he makes.
Arsenal will win this one, i am fairly certain because spurs allow us to play. We are the better team at that and i expect the result to be the same.
I am more worried for the weekend game, Leicester just doesnt seem to lose and we go there on saturday. Well we will talk on it after tonight ‘s win ok.
Can’t compare fatigue across sports. Boxers go months between bouts, but it doesn’t mean anything for the recovery of footballers as the physical demands are entirely different. It depends entirely on the level of stress placed on the mind and body. In the case of football, that stress has clearly grown over the last two decades.
Also not sure money comes into it. You can pay someone twice as much, but it doesn’t halve their fatigue, or their vulnerability to injury once fatigued.
It’s quite possible that players are just being soft, but given their value and the importance (sporting and fiscal) of getting them on the field, and the facilities available to clubs to do just that, my guess is that the current status quo of not overplaying individuals (Sanchez excluded) is the smartest way to go.
Also, with our injury record we generally count ourselves lucky if they come through one game a week, let alone two!
guys, i am on a visit to London from India for today and want to goto the match today. Let me know if anyone has a spare ticket or wants to sell their ticket
How interesting that BT Sport have not shown the footage that proves Gabriel did not touch Costa. That’s why we were so surprised. Apparently the footage shows that there was no contact and Costa writhes around in agony. Pathetic.
One wonders if the footage might have been produced more publicly if it was an Arsenal player simulating. Not that they would
It wasn’t their footage to show, it was the overseas ESPN cameras that showed it.

And look which cunt makes a big deal of it in the background. Wanker.
Yes Cynic, I saw that a few days ago but just smiled to myself. I still don’t see why a lot of fans give him such a big pass. Fabregas is a cunt indeed. He refused to play for our club and now tries to get our players sent off for nothing.
Sad to hear of AW’s separation from his wife but hope it turns out best for all parties including his daughter.
The first one who came rushing to the ref was that very dna piece of crap. I detest the sight of him and honestly wish someone walks up to him and says shut it and dont say crap like Arsenal is always there with me etc, no you are not one of us, never will be, snake.
Cynic @48.
Ahh, Bt sport did not see the incident. I believe that is called the Mike Dean defense…
What Impec1 said about DNA boy.
So much for all that “Arsene is like a second father” and “i’ll always love Arsenal” nonsense.
Strange how he instantly looked so dislikable in that revolting Chelsea strip.

Arsenal XI: Ospina, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Chambers, Gibbs, Arteta, Flamini, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ramsey, Campbell, Giroud.
Arsenal, just do the Job !!
Had a sneaky tenner on a Giroud Hattrick – Must be mad as old boots, but got a feeling our/his luck will change soon enough and what better time than against these Cunts,
Up The Arse
As for Costa, give Storey 10 minutes in his presence and the cheating fuck would never pull that shit again – Oh for the good old days 😉
Spent all day shrugging my shoulders going “it’s just the league cup” but now found myself wound up like before any other NL Derby.
Decent X1 up front and at the back imo – Midfield iffy as expected but at least those two know what these games mean.
COYG !
Those 2 being Arteta and Flamini of course…
Come on Flameta. Certainly good enough to highlight how slow Spurs midfield is?
M.Artini to boss the chickens and provide a post-match refresher with olive?
Glad to see some genuine ‘Fabregas is an utter cunt and has been since his massive cunt of a father started engineering a move to Barca and he went on strike to force the issue’, sentiment on here.
Lot of the reason I reduced my time (massively) in the Arseblog forum, was because of the ‘lump’ in there who persist in defending him.
Hated him from the minute he left. Hate him more and more with each passing day. And no, I never wanted him back either. Delighted we swerved that pill of pure poison.

Wow! Double post without even trying.
any streams, folks?
found one.

Evening Esso,
Fabregas lost it with me when he refused to play for us.
Inexcusable. No ifs, no buts.
His hair is thinning in the way an Action Man used to go bald too. It won’t be long before he’s shaving that down to hide the holes in his mop.
matty flams! 1-0 the good guys…
must be the last year of his contract 🙂
Esso. Mourinho is Fabregas’ spiritual father and uncoincidentally they overlapped at Barcelona from 1997-2000.
scruz your link doesn’t work over here due to my lowest of the low technology but thanks for the updates. I had a good feeling about Flamini today. Chippy maybe you got the wrong player for the hat trick? 🙂
I hope we end up with eleven men. Flamini and Arteta already booked
Come on Arsenal!
1-1 now, bt. chambers own goal, tough on him.
hello, arthur, long time.
Contract year Mathieu
Flams ..woah!
god-DAMN, matty flams with a beautiful volley off of a high-falling ball. 2-1 to the arsenal!
Get in there Flamster ??
YES!
Flamster brace downs the LWCs in their own back yard! Who’d ‘av thunk it?! It doesn’t get any sweeter than that folks! Should’ve been a 2 nil though if not for Debuchy having a right stinker! He needs a regular run in the side to get his mojo back after all the unfortunate injuries.
Bring on Leicester and the tinkerman’s end of they’re attempt at invincibility! Up the Arse all day and all night! COYBG! Feck you Spud cunts!
Nice one lads, and well…Flamini bagging both the goals? Football is weird sometimes.
Good job lads.
