The Pound But Not The Preview
Jan 13th, 2018 by 'holic
Hello from Cornwall where I thought I might be able to cobble together a preview of Sunday lunchtime’s match at Bournemouth. However a series of trips to farm shops, garden centres, breweries, pubs, and restaurants has rendered that impossible.
So you know what to avoid I am letting you know that the ‘holic pound is firmly planted on 1-3 to the visitors at 12/1. Come back for at least one guest post on the match after the event.
Off to another pub!

have a good time guvnor!
I fancy 2-0 meself but I’ll happily
take 3-1
ooh – a ton and a first in the same
day. Masterful lurking.
Good result for Leicester at the
Chavs – I thought they played
quite well. Course it’s a two-edged
thingy as we go there shortly.
Two 0-0 draws at home in a row
for Chelski – a master stroke
selling the odious one?
In particular, ‘holic, visits to breweries and pubs tend to put things off somewhat in my experience. Shame, shame. 😀
More of the same should be expected and very much deserved.
someone must put that kane fella in the washing machine

I’m sorry you’re having such a difficult time ‘holic ! Another pub? Such cruelty.
depor – valencia
just to see lucas vs coquelin and gabriel
and – whaddaya know – both were great
not lucas
Fancy us to win tomorrow partly because we should be stronger and partly because Bournemouth are struggling. I think Ramsey will replace Ozil, Jack will be back and the Tank may be on the bench.2-0 to the mighty Gunners !
FIN! Great to see you. Hope all is well sir? 🙂
What is wrong with TH14 these days? Giving Bournemouth players his pep talk? Not sure e I completely understand his logic here!
A garden centre getting in the way of football? I know you have just celebrated a birthday recently but how many years did you actually age on that time???
Yet again it will all come down to which arsenal turns up. Just for the novelty value, can it we one that can both take and defend a corner please? Not too much to ask, surely?
Apart from that, 3 points please.
That is all. Enjoy boys and girls.
Topically, I just had an afternoon
of opera but I see we’ve switched
to supermarkets….
So nothing to say except to wish
our away support a Safeway home
If Sanchez goes to United and not City, it will be proof (to me anyway) that getting away from Arsenal was more important to him than winning things.
That and the money 🙂
Enjoy the pub. Hope they’re showing the game. 1-3 sounds about right.
So the last time we went to Bournemouth, we scored three goals and scraped a draw. All three goalscorers are not in the team, two are no longer going to play for us and one appears to be on his way out as well if a buyer will take a risk on signing him whilst injured.
And just to cheer you up, today’s referee is…

Alexis not in squad…. looks like he’s on his way…!
Hope we already got a replacement in place.
Given the transfer rubbish and injuries that is probably the best line up we have available today.
Iwobi must be ‘partying’ in the last chance saloon this afternoon though – he owes us a big solid performance or should be dropped.
Ramsey, Tank and Eddie should be good options on the bench.
Who know ; Maybe a last hurrah sub goal for Theo just a few miles down the road from Southampton ? Few would begrudge him that.
Same starting team as mid-week save for Cech for Ospina.
Cech,
Chambers, Mustafi, Holding
Bellerin, Wilshere, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles
Iwobi, Welbeck
Lacazette
Bench: Mertesacker, Ramsey, Ospina, Walcott, Kolasinac, El Neny, Nketiah
Alexis checking train times to Manchester, presumably.
Fantastic! One tedious contract saga’s almost over. Just several more to go!
Goodbye Alexis! Thanks for the memories!
? ? “Hello mid-table-mediocrity, my old friend. I’ve come to talk with you again (soon).” ? ?
https://youtu.be/4zLfCnGVeL4
I think the team tells us everything.
Sanchez is off and we won’t see him again.it looks like Malcom is the chosen replacement . A big gap in current clay but in a year he may be the better player.
Don’t rate Iwobi, is he really the best we can put in?
Clay? I meant to say current status!
Hope he doesn’t go to ManU! That would be ….counterproductive to put it mildly.
mid table mediocrity – nice music
reference but a fair way from
reality.
Sanchez was a great player but
The Arsenal will go on.
He will be missed either way
I’m watching the game, drinking a delicious and well kept beer. Life is good.

Commentator on Sky can f…. off
Disappointing, TTG. I thought you had coined a rather beautiful new metaphor @23.
COYG
OsakaMatt,
As always, each to their very own within the contemporary Goonerverse. ?
As a neutral, must say I’m “proper excited” about the upcoming Anfield offering. ? ?
AFCOF!
Come on Bellerin sort it out
Pangloss- yes it sounds elegant but like most of what I say means very little
Had chances be we look ordinary
So, TTG, the club has at least two members then.
It’s a lot less lonely.
Poor, poor first half against a team at 17th in the table. We don’t look like scoring against anyone. Iwobi lucky not to concede a penalty. Need to improve big time in the second half. The difference Ozil and Sanchez make to our play is so evident on the basis of our pedestrian showing in the first half.
Disappointing first half except when Jack was on the ball. It was a completely different game when he had possession. Iwobi should have been penalised . Even Wenger couldn’t have disputed it if we’d had another penalty against us .
We look toothless upfront and miss Ozil’s vision although Welbeck and Lacazette aren’t inspiring much confidence at present. As Laca gets taken off after 70 minutes are we to expect Eddie Nketiah to come on for him? Let’s hope Eddie can find the back of the Nketiah if he gets on.
I’ve aleady got my coat ?
What a poor first half. Jack the stand out player. The rest? Average is over egging it. Iwobi and Dead Shot Danny offering nothing up top.
No Sanchez and no Özil leaves us massively lacking in quality. How this has got to this situation is still beyond me.
Big improvements needed second half.
Got away with a pen shout as well. I wonder how many will rip the officials to bits for that one???
Form an orderly queue.
@31
amen brother on freedom of speech
and thought ???
Too many aimless long balls, too many poor touches, too many miss placed passes, only Jack providing a ray of hope.
Buck up you Reds.
Iwobi should be sold as well he can’t shoot, pass and defend!
First to raise my hand, Steve T. Should have been a penalty. Iwobi was stupid and got away.
So when will that new “Worldie” called “Malcolm” from Bordeaux be in the middle; or at left-back in place of AMN – knowing how Arsene likes to now do his things? ?
I bought another of these yummy beers. Much more enjoyabe than our lot, so far anyway.
@39
would have been a very harsh
penalty, no need to rip any officials
either way on that one i think.
unlucky for AMN and a great block
from Calum 1st half. Let’s see what
a very young team can do 2nd
half. And let’s remember they’re
young and it isn’t the first XI who
have put us where we are now!
What’s the first 11 again?
I agree with Steve T we have no quality left apart from Jack in this squad. I’m not considering Laca quality because frankly he’s shooting blanks at the moment and we don’t know how long that will continue.
Bellerins pass just f….. wonderful is he blind?
Wake up Arsenal
Get in, Bellerin!!!’
Iwobi and Bellerin I’ll be dammed humble pie it is
Ksn. I was just trying to highlight the difference between peoples reactions when we are the victims or the beneficiaries. If it had been the other way round then the gallows would already be half built.
Hello there Mr Bossman Wenger. Is Theo really that bad that he cannot sniff any meaningful game time? Are you setting up the team to win or to show everyone who did not know by now that you are the boss?
What has Iwobi done to justify the playing time you are giving him?
Apart from that Iwobi is awful
Typical Arsenal ffs
I’m so tired of watching same old shyte
Shit defending and we pay the price once again.
More defensive garbage.
Our super quick keeper
3:1 is still on
We are behind now. Bould out!
Yet another comedy show
This could turn out to be a rout.
5 points behind spuds ffs
Mid table team, more like bottom half team.
Granit just stands there and lets him have a free run. That is so fucking basic that it’s just not believable.
We defend appallingly whether we have a three or a four at tge back and on this evidence we need to consider another goalkeeper. Bournemouth are awful…and they are beating us
No Wenger & Bould out in fact the whole coaching staff out but most of all Wenger!!!!!!
Just leave you stubborn mule!
I believe it.
23-26 points behind the 1st place, more like closer to relegation zone
No wonder players like Alexis want out Wenger is bringing this club to a brink!
Even Jamie Redknapp is copying me now.
I should get a job with Sky.
?
Shambles not a lot to say about this team
Walcott cannot stay onside for once
? ? @72! ?
I just don’t see us playing any worse under different management
Rusty’s 2 contributions since coming on? To be offside twice.
I fully accept that lack of game time has an effect but surely not on your eyes??
Theo offside as usual
We are SHIT.
Wenger for once I hope you will not honour you contract and you will leave early! I don’t see the point of you managing this club any longer we are on the down spiral!
It’s embarrassing how we as a club have ended up in such disarray.
Leaderless, rudderless and clueless.
IF we lose Walcott, Alexis and Ozil…. I wonder how much we’ll be willing to spend on replacements in this market…!
Well fuck you Wenger for the rest of eternity, oh and don’t forget to take with you the mental strength, the positives and the next game. P.S. also the ‘I did not see it’.
My oh my, what a pile of cr*p this side is. Wenger treats them like adults and they play like children. Mind you, it must be his fault for buying such a pile of shit
Don’t know what the board made of that. Wenger is draining even the most enthusiastic and loyal fans of passion and leaving us totally disillusioned.
Very similar to the Watford game..defeat from the jaws of victory. We were beyond awful in the second half. The team had no character and virtually no quality and even Jack got fed up in the end. This may be a nadir in Wenger’s period at the club. We can only focus on the Europa League because we cannot get near the top four.
The inability to get injured players back cost us…as ever we have umpteen players out and their convalescence continues to get longer. Another situation that never seems to improve. What must Sánchez be thinking if he bothered to watch that? Let’s hope Malcom didn’t
A first …we’ve lost to Bournemouth…they are crap and yet deserved to win.
Please Arsene if you care for this club make this your last season.
And why do some of you guys rate Wilshere highly? He is slow, holds onto the ball too long & then likes to ball watch. Would Wilshere make it in the starting 11 on any the 5 teams that are ahead of us? Ordinary players get you ordinary results, unless you have a super good manager.
This is akin to how we were before Wenger came in.
The club seems far too happy to sell players make a profit and continually fail to strengthen the squad while still fleecing the fans to watch the ream struggling and making the same mistakes over and over again.
I love Arsene but he should’ve gone last summer. On a high after the FA cup. His commitment is unquestioned as is his loyalty. But that might actually be counter productive. Ancelotti is available he would be a worthy successor in my humble.
In the mean time if we don’t sign at least 3 players (Yeah I know I’m tripping) then this could become a fucking shite season.
So to sum up, we’re not entirely
happy. Looking forward to cba’s
match report.
Xhaka has never been a DM and we’ve sold our only one.
Therein lies part of the problems. We are always at least 2 or 3 players short. It’s probably twice that amount now.
We may as well play the youth team with the senior players who are good enough and want to stay. So that’s Bellerin Nacho Kolasinac and erm…
What do you mean by ‘we’re not entirely happy’. We are fucking miserable.
Dexter, it is not akin to how we were Wenger came in. Then, we could really defend.
Take Ozil and Sanchez out – and is this now the worst Arsenal team since the decline in the early / mid Eighties ?
Discuss…
Ksn
We were bang average regardless of the defence.
is there a supermarket called F*****’HellArsenal???
Agree Dexter except with the “this could become a fucking shite season” – it is a fucking shite season.
Dexter, now we are bang average and we can’t even defend. We are a few notches lower now.
Just adding my voice (once again) to the hordes who are entirely fed up with this fucking dross being served up to us.
How the hell no-one at board level can not have spotted this decline started several years ago is beyond me.
Fin
I’m ever the optimist. We can win a cup or two still!
Tapera
Wilshere has a burst of pace that gets him away from opponents that matches anybody in the division. He was inclined to overcomplicate today but he would merit a place in any of the top 5 except for Citeh. Part of his problem today was that he was surrounded by donkeys
Ox just scored a worldie…my my my
I’ll have the token compensation spot then 🙂
Has Arsenal FC now officially become Everton South?
What on earth else does AW have to do to get called to account by the board?
Is he really unsackable?
Dexter – I would love you to prove me wrong and it would be great to celebrate a Europa and Carabao cup double. No problem with that.
For the first time I genuinely do not see where we go from here. I don’t see any point in sacking AW at this stage of the season. I equally don’t see any point in keeping him on much after the season ends. Where we go for a replacement or how we even attempt to attract quality players from I really don’t know. We have two new members who are meant to assist with contracts and recruitment. Hopefully that is a step in the right direction. The situation at the moment would seem to be thatvwe have wasted a lot of money on decidedly average players. The real quality we have can’t leave quick enough and there seems very little in the pipeline to suggest either changing in the very near future.
It’s all just sad.
Fin – and to continue to suck in UCL?
Not that we’ll be close to winning one or the other cup
Is he really unsackable?
Yes. If he wasn’t, he’d have been out years ago. Any serious club would have had him out of the door at least five years ago.
This team is filled with average players, some of whom we paid fortunes for.
Relying on Welbeck and Iwobi, Xhaka and Mustafi… madness. And yeah I know Iwobi had an assist but that was largely down to the full back switching off.
Have we had a worse central midfield player, so consistently selected despite being awful, than Xhaka in the last decade?
IF we lose Walcott, Alexis and Ozil…. I wonder how much we’ll be willing to spend on replacements in this market…!
Not enough and what we do spend will be on average players.
We are total cheapskates who also overspend. Try to work that one out.
TTG @ 98 above. I totally disagree with you on Wilshere. He holds onto the ball too long and wants to dribble around like he is some magician. Anytime he has the ball, I feel like he is going to lose the ball to the opposing team.
And he CANNOT make the 11 of any of the teams ahead of us. Whom would he dislodge on the Spurs team?
I’ve aleady got my coat
Was it time to jacket in?
Steve T
I’m very much of the same mind. If Wenger left now they’d probably give it to Bould on a temporary basis and I think he’s part of the problem.
We were missing Ozil ( huge) Sanchez ( better get used to that ) Giroud, Monreal, Cazorla , Ramsey for most of the game , Koscielny and tge Tank. That’s partly unlucky but it happens every season.
Lads like AMN aren’t helped coming into a bad team at a difficult time. In other circumstances he would find it much easier and probably develop quicker.
In my view from today’s side I think we have to look at definitely replacing Chambers, Xhaka, Welbeck, Walcott and Iwobi. Cech played poorly today and might have stopped both goals and Holding needs to play in a stable unit as does Mustafi . Bellerin did ok but he will come under great pressure to leave in the summer particularly if he has a good World Cup.
Our best team is a decent eleven but coached by Wenger we aren’t going to get back to the top table. It’s time to decide to make a change at the end of the season
Tapera He’s a better player than Son, Winks or Dembele. Looking at Liverpool today he’s better than Wijnaldum. He’s better than Mata or Herrera at United and better than Bakayoko at Chelsea.
And Drinkwater!
I’d agree with all those names except Mata
TTG – Son doesn’t play in the same position as Wilshere, otherwise I would say how many goals has Jack scored compared to Son this season?
Better than Dembele, Mata & Herrera?? That is a really long stretch my friend.
Bakayoko might be the only one, but on this I think Conte is starting the wrong guy – he should be starting either William or Pedro.
If I were in charge of player acquisitions, I would only re-sign Jack, if he was being paid less than 50K a week. You keep players like Jack if you want to continue being an average team.
Our starting XI today was arguably our worst in the PL since the 8-2 at Old Trafford. Seriously average.
Just watching today brings to mind all those years ago when a few contributors to the bar Were dissatisfied with Arsene’s coaching and management of the club. Circa 2009/2010/2011 the regulars and main patrons here mocked such people mercilessly, called them spoilt, deluded, glory hunters, and more. There was a plan, wenger only needed to be able to spend 40 million on a single player without batting an eyelid we would be the best team in England again. All these years later and we can see how the 10 year plan turned out. We can now delight in the regular forays deep into the last rounds of the champions league and challenging for the league till April while squeezing every ounce of performance from the players. It’s a shame that it’s got to this point. Even when Leicester won the league there’s people who said half way through the season that it was our best chance in a decade to win the title and we wouldn’t have such an opportunity again. Our fellow top 6 clubs were seriously underperforming and pep, conte and mourinho would be arriving to manage our rivals the next season. Cue the same long timers with their airs of superiority talking about how fortune tellers should give them lottery numbers and foreigners adapting to the league and how we could criticize Wenger at the end of the season but should always support him. We were out of the race by the end of February and snuck 2nd after spurs gave up hope late on.
This club had no direction at the moment. We’re basically functioning as the special project of a long past it but lovable manager bent on proving his genius to everyone but repeatedly failing. Our board has proved that they can’t be trusted to guide the club, set expectations or hold anyone to account and until the whole lot is cleared out we are going to keep sliding backward.
Ancelotti would have the pedigree to succeed AW. Or get Gus Hiddink back from North Korea (out of contract at the end of this year). He sorted out a talented squad at Chelsea that had lost the plot.
Tapera. Jack Wishere is the most positive player with skill and spirit we have. If he is deemed to be no good then what about Iwobi,Xhaka,Walcott,Bellerin,Welbeck.
Wilshere has been excellent since he came back.
We have one additional major problem and that is a Manager who cannot motivate the team to play at 120% of their combined capability.
BO’B@115: That Arsenal team at Old Trafford, do not forget, was Szczesny, Jenkinson, Koscielny, Djournou, Traore, Coquelin, Rosicky, Ramsey, Walcott, Arshavin and Van Persie. We’ve put out weaker teams than that since.
The team out today is not untalented, but its is performing individually and collectively way below its potential.
I think Guardiola was clapping to Mane’s goal…ahahahahahaha
T
You are right in your claim and I was probably one of those who supported Arsene. I felt that his level of performance at a very difficult time for the club was still high and he had transformed the club. As I write Citeh are being taken apart. No Invincibles there I suspect. Wenger achieved that on a relative shoestring . That is and always will be an astonishing feat.
There is no doubt as the stakes have increased with better managers and greater competition he has fallen away and he is now by any standard a major cause for concern.
This bar is nowhere near as belligerent as many on the Net. A lot of us have supported Arsenal for many years , well before Wenger , when Arsenal were truly awful and the Board were just as out of touch as now. There is a lot of loyalty and gratitude to Wenger , even now a lot of us find it hard to dislike him as violently as many supporters do. But something has to be done to refloat the club. Things are not satisfactory now. The big problem is that even a Guardiola or Pochettino would find it hard to work for this owner and this board.
4-1
At least we’ll remain as the only Invincibles
Liverpool 4-1 Man City after 68 minutes!
Dismantled, the invincible run is over, thank God
Salah, what a bargain
On Wilshire – I agree to disagree with those that see him differently than I do. It is what it is.
Anyone watching “Pool do it to the Citizen? What can our manager learn from how “Pool approached this game? What can our “beautiful” team incorporate in the game plan when we face city?
Coutinho Overrated, the LFC with a class keeper would be very hard to beat
Robertson – talk about committment, what a run, hat off to you
Arsene Wenger said he would review Arsenal’s defeat in a “harsh way” as goals by Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and Jordon Ibe dented the Gunners’ pursuit of a top-four place.
No doubt by giving them all a couple of days off.
The media will be heartbroken . Pep’s Invincibles exposed as utterly useless in defence ..and that goalie. He hasn’t caught a ball all day. In fact Citeh’s defence looks as bad as ours. And that is a benchmark for shite.
Aubameyang to Arsenal ? He and Malcom would provide a bit of speed.
Liverpool is a study in a Managers ability to motivate a team
Just saw Wenger’s post match, he is deluded 100%
4-3 now.
Surely not???
As close as it gets
Liverpool running all over the place instead of defending in their half and keeping the ball.
Man City lose and we are the only invincibles in the premier league era.?
@121 TTG
Hear Hear!
New invicibles my Arse!
I guess City will be wanting Alexis now…
TTG 131
Those two and a CB would make for excellent business but will never ever happen as it’ll put a dent in the profit margin!
Now that was extremely entertaining up at Anfield. ?
One saving grace to be had from the day down at Bournemouth, when we saw what an Arsenal side without a Mesut Ozil and an Alexis Sanchez will look like, Arsene Wenger can still call himself “an invincible”. ?
UTAAD&AN!
AFCOF! NAWF!
Ancelotti in the summer makes loads of sense. However if I was the board I wouldn’t wait till summer to get him signed up. Then again we don’t have much success when it comes to contracts!
Wenger’s post match madness interview is just shambolic to say the least, how on earth doesn’t he get away with this bag of shit is unbelievable!
He chose the team, he chose the line up he set them up tactically for this game. He coaches them day in, day out! He should at least admit it if he cares about this club in any way that he’s out of his depth here.
I don’t believe for one second this team is shit, we saw they can play well on few occasions this season Wenger can’t bring that out in them for every game only few far between which is not good enough.
The more damage he does the more my respect is vanishing. I would take anyone now and I mean anyone but Wenger!
I don’t know anything about Malcolm (unless it’s that bloke out of the Synex adverts) but for some reason, I’m thinking £45m, overpriced and very very average.
But then, we could sign Messi and make him shit.
@TTG 121 yes he transformed the club but then he started a new project with youth and a group of skilled players trying to replicate Barca’s success. Unfortunately he kept making the same mistakes over and over again and everyone could see it in those seasons how close but how far we were from taking that last step. For how many seasons did we keep falling in the same exact way and then we’d get the pre season analysis telling us how we should have learned from the past season and wenger would remedy it etc etc. wait until the end of the season to judge. Rinse and repeat. Eventually we started calling it “groundhog season”
I respect that people have been through worse Arsenal seasons and we have a history that hasn’t always been the most glamorous or full of trophies but you don’t always rely on the worst possible scenario when making judgements else every situation can be justified by saying “could be worse”. Finishing 15th is not as bad as 17th which in turn isn’t as bad as relegation, or falling into administration etc etc. And for top clubs fighting for titles stagnation means you get left behind very very quickly…
Malcom also doesn’t know anything about Malcolm
We are the 2nd biggest club in England (after the Red Mancs) and I appreciate that we are not the richest (probably 4th after United, City and Chelsea). Yes the stadium move and the commercial deals have had an impact in the past but now there are no more excuses. Things need to change and I’d love it if the owner was to go but I don’t believe it will happen, so I’m sorry Arsene but it’s time to go.
Thanks Countryman100 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Has anyone had a word in Arsene Wengers shell-like to say “I think you’re being shafted here mate.” When the proposed deal was supposed to be Mkhitaryan plus cash for Sanchez, it was just about acceptable, provided we bought in a major signing as well. Now, if Mkhit’s agent is to believed, it is now a straight player swap; and so Mourinho gets rid of a player he no longer wants, and gets a world class player in return. We lose a player who doesn’t want to play for us, and in return we get a player who would rather be elsewhere, i.e. Dortmund. Wonderful! Wenger has to walk away from this. Meanwhile Mourinho sits and awaits the outcome, when he he must be made aware that it’s either sign Sanchez now or see him join City in the summer.
I can picture it now. Wenger sits alongside Mkhitaryan at the presser, telling us that he always said he wouldn’t let Sanchez go without getting in a replacement.
