As Marvin Gaye Once Said, 'Let's Get It On'

A brief look at the Saturday fixture at home to Everton is in order, although the fact that half of the weekend’s Premier fixtures are already postponed tells a story. Thankfully one that has already gone is Chelsea’s trip to Hull, so we may still just be within a point of them on Saturday night.
The team news, such as it was at today’s press conference, is that Rosicky is fit, but Wilshere is ruled out. The team that finished the match at West Ham, with the exception of Arshavin for Vela, will probably start against the side we hit for six on the opening day of the season.
Everton are one of the few sides who have suffered as many injuries to key players as ourselves. Anichebe, Arteta, Distin, Jagielka ,and Rodwell would all probably start for them. Add to them the loss of Yobo and Yakubu to the African Cup of Nations and you can see it is a good time to be playing the Goodison outfit.
The pitch at the Grove is likely to be very fast and slippery, and that should suit our quick passing game. I will wait until the last minute before placing the ‘holic pound very firmly on a home win. It isn’t often I plump for an evens bet, but it doubles your money, and that seems a very generous offer from Paddy Power on Arsenal to be leading at half-time and full-time.
Welcome back Patrick
I have seen the odd grumble about Patrick Vieira signing for Manchester City. Get over it. There is no question he would be in my (and probably every other Gooner’s) best eleven of all time. We were privileged to have him at the peak of his powers, but he is now far from that level.
Everybody knows he needs to be playing in this World Cup year and Mancini knows he is getting a player desperate to impress over the final five months of the season. I wish him well, and I hope he does establish himself in the Eastlands starting line-up before they come to us in April. That could be a very strange day indeed, but I am sure Paddy will get the reception he earned whilst making himself a Gunners legend.
Good luck fella.

Sad to see viera in man shirt shirt with that bushy cunt called…adebayor.
Wish the best to the legend, though.
Adebayor, Adebayoooooooooooor, put him back on the coach and shoot him some more!!!
I for one echo your thoughts on Paddy. A chance to impress and earn a bucket load??? Why not?
Looking forward to tomorrow. Hopefully another 3 points and edge just that bit closer. 3 points and no injuries will be just about perfect. I am hoping that Eduardo can build on his recent strikes and looking forward to seeing Ramsey dominate the middle again.
4-1 to the Gunners.
Keep the faith.
To goonerinbarca. Ade may be the biggest money grabbing man whore of a c@@t but let’s not get that confused with real life. My thoughts go out to the Togo national team and all involved.
Please no more injuries. MAN the fragility of our players worries me
Well said about Vieira ‘Holic.
We had his best days and although it would have been ‘romantic’ to have had him back ‘home’ I think it is best that he didn’t come back.
I wanna remember him as the Vieira we knew and worshipped, because he is not the same as those days.
3-0 to the good guys!
Spot on Tommo. However, there is a certain amount of irony in the fact that there were loads of shots but they all missed Ade. Don’t you think so?
On a serious note, that qute frankly should be the end of the tournament. They clearly have no control and greatly inadequate security.
Steve T . Lol 🙂
First the Sri Lankan cricket team, now a football team. The first thing I wanted to do was make a crass joke about Adebayor (eg comment #3) but people really got hurt. The next thing I wanted to say was to get Song and Eboue back home. But what about the players who actually live in Africa? Or the fact that this kind of shit/other terrible things can happen anywhere in the world.
Now I’m a bit sad.. something strong, and make it a double.
It was a bit daft of them to use the area with the remaining active separatist groups as one of the four ACN venues. It’s harsh to say they have no control, but they clearly don’t have control in that area and it was probably a bad idea to think they could play up there. There is a reserve host for the tournament (Nigeria) but obviously it’s way too short notice now for that. It’ll go ahead without Togo, the only alternative would have been doing it in Angola or Nigeria in 2011.
All very rotten anyway and very sad.
Evening all.
Sorry goonerinbarca, but that’s just wrong.
Another dark day in the history of football and I agree with Steve T, they’re really has to be something done to guarentee the players safety. F.I.F.A. have obviously made a massive blunder in allowing the finals to take place in such an unstable country.
On Viera, I think I will be feeling a little unwell the first time I see him in that horrid light blue number, but of coarse I wish him all the best, he always wore oiur shirt with pride and was/is a true Arsenal legend.
I think if the game goes ahead tomorrow our lads will be up for it after almost a whole weeks rest. A win and we’ll be looking good.
A nice cognac to warm the soul please barman, it’s bloody freezing over here.
Cheers.
Apologies for a getting carried away. My deep hatred of Adebayor made me forget there were lives at stake. Thoughts are with the whole Togo (even that money grabbing piece of dirt). I wouldn’t wish actual death on him but it’s a chant. I was at the West Ham game the other day and when Green was down injured there were a good few hundred people singing “let him die”. It didn’t mean we actually wanted him dead. I’ll admit to it (in the words of another blog) being crude but think of some of the munich songs sung by citeh and scouser songs by united and they’re on the same level.
Well Mercy Mercy Me, two posts in two days from our soul man, “Holic. What’s Going On prior to the visit of these scouse Inner City Blues? Is there Trouble Man or is ‘Holic just in need of some Sexual Healing?
Should be a strong team tomorrow, shouldn’t it? Almunia. A stable back four. Ramsey, Denilson and Diaby in the mid-field and some competition for places among the little lads up front with AA, Nasri, Eduardo, Rosicky and Vela competing to be big up front. It Takes Two to sit on the bench and my betting is on AA and Vela for that honour.
Should be an entertaining game. Everton like to play, can’t defend, and, with all the injuries they have will be fearing another tennis set. It’s got to be a home win which will take us to second top and have Gooners around the world Rocking After Midnight.
I Heard It On The GrapeVine that Citeh are trying to re-assemble the Invincibles at Eastland? Only nine to go. BUT, the Patrick Viera they’re buying Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing. I’ve watched him frequently in the past twelve months for Inter. He’s not the soul brother we knew. That dude is slower, fatter and tireder quicker. It’ll be interesting to see him play against us at The Emirates (again…remember the CL game?).
Until Tomorrow then ‘Holics. Keep that sweet soul music swinging to the beat of my man Denilson’s samba drum. Some kind of Motor City meets Rio De Janeiro beverage, barman. Caipirinha with some real cool dude limes, I think.
The idiot who joked about the Togo team bus should take a long hard look in the mirror.
I have read complaints, not being able to attend at the Emirates, about the Elvis song played prior to games. The Clash and others have been mentioned as alternatives, but reading between the lines can I interpret this as ‘holic’s nomination of Marvin instead?
Looks like the Mancini link was too low-brow for the ‘holics.
Hello bt8bbnn. No, Marvin won’t whip up the crowd. I used to like Right here, Right now, when they played it at Highbury. London Calling would certainly knock that Elvis rubbish into a cocked hat.
Better still turn the bloody piped music off and let the crowd make the atmosphere like we used to back in the day. An exchange of chants with the opposition is all that is needed to get the atmosphere lifted. Might even get a crowd in earlier than ten minutes before kick-off.
I didn’t click on it, ‘Holic, otherwise you would have had a pageful of Marvin Gay meets Inspector Clouseau. Might have been a boeump of cultures there.
Is it so difficult to rotate the songs?
Elvis can stay, it sometimes amplifies the wonder of Arsene.
Clash check, Rocky theme song? (just for Rambo) Brothers Gonna work it out – Chemical Brothers endless choices, it should be fun.
‘Kids are alright’ is great half time song btw.
“Chelsea Dagger” by The Fratellis is a good one. youtube it.
Everton won’t be a complete walkover though even with a depleted squad. a David Moyes managed team will always be raring to take down a top 4 side.
Sato – rice wine, not too strong about 15 percent, sweet and warm.
When City come to the Grove it’ll be strange indeed. I can imagine us cheering Paddy’s touches, booing Adebayor’s and mehing Kolo’s.
Just a quick note to disassociate myself completely from the “gooner” at comment 3. It seems that no matter where you are in the world people have the capacity to disappoint.
Let’s not be too hard on goonerinbarca. I am sure a few of us thought along the same lines ;)). A*ebayor is still human being afterall. Paddy is still my hero!! Mind you I haven’t followed him much since he left us. It will be strange seeing him with Citeh.
Anyone else read up on the Dar Jose that AW sent to Spain?
An Irish coffee for me this morning please, ‘holic.
And I’m afraid I don’t wish much luck on Vieira at Man City in terms of sporting career. Take the money and limp, Paddy! 😉
Apart from when he plays Man U or Spuds if he plays against these lots.
He’ll get a great reception no doubt, but the reception he got at the DB10 testimonial was spine-tingling, I don’t think it can feel the same now.
I don’t know, it’s sure, these days, there’s hardly likely to be any player that has not at least a slight taste for money at all, I guess….
Vieira is already out for his first eligible game on Monday night. If he gets 15 games under his belt for the remainder of the season I will be very surprised.
#22 Kiwi Gooner…..completely agree!! Look, I’ll admit to having a quiet little joke with myself about feeling disappointed they managed to miss Adebayor when I heard news of events in Cabinda yesterday. Did I mean it? Of course not! Did I feel a tad guilty for allowing the thought to cross my mind? Yes, well ever so slightly I did.
Re todays game, I’ll go 3-0 to Arsenal. Everton like to play football but David Moyes is not stupid. He would have learnt a lesson or two from the first game this season so will probably revert to a more defensive style of play.
Re Paddy going to Citeh, I’m with what seems the popular opinion. I’d have hoped Arsenal would have been the last premier team he’d have played for in his career but wish him well. My mind immediately goes back to when Pires dispossessed Vieira in a monumental tackle from behind in the Champs league quarter final v Juventus in 2006. Hopefully the same or similar will happen again as a reminder to Vieira 🙂
NB. Fave ever Marvin Gaye track…….’If I could Build my whole world around you’. Sung with Tammi Tyrell (she of the wonderfully mellifluous voice) but the lyrics are sweet sweet sweet.
We drop or two of whisky in my coffee please barman. Keep on believing Gooners!!
I’m actually looking forward to seeing Paddy back in action! Even if we only see glimpses of the monster he used to be. Sadly for him, like many I fear his best days are long gone but take the money and run Paddy, all the way to the world cup. Can’t wait to cheer you on at the Grove in April shortly after we are crowned champions!
I have serious doubts Viera will even get a game, what with Barry/Ireland/De Jong in their squad. Unless they two plan on playing a 4-3-3.
But, enough of that, here’s to putting 6 past Everton again!
Catalan Gunner ..you said it best.
