Win a place at Junior Gunners’ screening of Chelsea v Arsenal

Mar 5th, 2014 by 'holic

We’ve teamed up with Arsenal to offer a couple of young Gooners and their parents the chance to watch a live screening of Chelsea v Arsenal  at Emirates Stadium on Saturday 22 March.

The screening will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the club’s young supporter scheme the Junior Gunners, and lots will be going on to mark the milestone. There will be football games, an arts and crafts area, the chance to meet Gunnersaurus and get your hands on some giveaways too.

The screening has been arranged for members of the Junior Gunners, but we’ve got two pairs of tickets to give away to youngsters aged 4-16 accompanied by a parent or guardian.

To win the chance to go along, just answer this question:

What was the score when Arsenal played Chelsea in the league at Emirates Stadium earlier this season?

a)      0-0

b)      1-1

c)       3-3

Send your answer to competition@goonerholic.com before midnight on Monday 10th March. Please include your name and email address so Arsenal can contact you to make the arrangements if you are one of the winners.

For more information on Arsenal’s Junior Gunner scheme visit www.alwaysaheadofthegame.com/junior

Good luck, all.

Heard today from a sensible and obviously wealthy Arsenal fan who lives a few doors from Bendtner. The night after the Bayern game he had to leave home at 5 to catch an early flight. He saw Bendtner arriving home as he left. Are we supposed to be upset he is leaving us? He has hung around like a bad smell for way too long.

I agree with the sentiments above. This comp is a good look for the Jrs. The timing slightly conflicts with little GT’s academy training. He’s also a funny one when it comes to televised matches. He’ll sit through a match in the stadium, but doesn’t sit through matches at home. Just little parts here and there. Saying that, being around other JG’s could make him feel more settled.

Btw, it would be nice if the board could look into their seating scheme for younger JGs who cannot attend matches on their own. They need their parents to accompany them. Just saying. 🙁

I must say though, the more Sat lunch time approaches, the more I feel like splitting a toffee in half. Just saying 🙂

H2H @ 29: Thanks for sharing that link, I was just going to post it. He has always been quite a precocious talent, at 19-20 years of age he had played excellently against two international top teams in Brazil and Spain

The entire Arsenal squad coming out unscathed through a set of pointless international friendlies just before the end of season run-in? Impossible!!

Hopefully no one else is damaged — there were some talks about Kos having some muscular issues in the training but as he was in the subs’ bench maybe nothing too serious — and hopefully Jack is back fit after six weeks and can participate in the final month or so.

Trev@33. Now, now. This is not a tobacconist’s.

  47. on 06 Mar 2014 at 4:08 pm47North Bank Ned

I wouldn’t wish to deny Jack or any player a World Cup trip, but part of me says it wouldn’t be bad for him to miss the tournament so he he can recuperate fully from this latest fracture and get a proper pre-season in to get back on track to where he should be following his previous injuries.

  48. on 06 Mar 2014 at 4:18 pm48Doctor Faustus

NBN @ 47: Especially given the extraordinarily humid Amazonian climate on which the group D will take place. If England gets through the group stage — which I doubt — you will find a lot of exhausted players in the quarters and hence more vulnerable to sustaining injuries.

Hopefully Ox would be used judiciously and not as a workhorse just because he has the strength and the attitude.

  49. on 06 Mar 2014 at 4:30 pm49Doctor Faustus

Having not witnessed the sumptuous football between England and Denmark, from the reports I just learned that it was no one else but Liverpool’s Danish thug Agger who had caused the injury to Jack!

    Hurrah for international friendlies …

    Holic,

I honestly don’t know about Saturday yet. I had an arthroscopy two weeks ago which involved a lot of manipulating of the joint too, as the back of the kneecap is damaged as well. The tendon is very tight on the earlier bone graft and they’re not sure how to get the replacement joint in.

At the moment the whole knee looks blue from internal bleeding and it hurts like hell. Coming by train and walking back to Finsbury Park is a non-starter. My Emirates neighbour has said I can park at his house and get the bus which stops right near The Tollie.

Would live to make it Saturday but will have a late fitness test when I finish work tomorrow.

I am sliding ‘out of love’ with this game. 🙁

  56. on 06 Mar 2014 at 9:48 pm56North Bank Ned

Dr F@48: Good point. Given the paucity of strikers available to Woy (when Carroll still has a chance of a seat on the plane to Brazil you know how threadbare England’s resources are in that department), I fear the Ox will be given a lot of work out wide.

  57. on 06 Mar 2014 at 10:25 pm57Thundertinygooner

When Jack burst into the first team scene he was a tremendously exciting and precocious project. Sadly he appears to be a player ( already carrying an underlying ankle problem ) who seems to lurch from injury to injury. Trev would give a much more expert analysis of my theory but it seems as in Diaby’s case that a major injury can cause permanent sequel are that bedevil a player’s career permanently. I don’t want to compare Jack and Diaby but poor LJW seemed destined to continually pick up fitness and form- sapping injuries. Ideally he should stay at home in the summer and have a full pre- season to build up his fitness but it won’t be possible if Woy picks him for Brazil and it’s hard to begrudge a lad of his age a World Cup. But Arsenal’s injury curse is getting way beyond a joke

Trying to look on the positive side of the latest arsenal injury news to jack and I guess the upcoming weeks will be the greatest test of this squad and their determination and desire to compete at the highest level as a group.
Those regularly used words ‘team’ and ‘squad’ now take on significant meaning as this is the time when the team and the squad are needed the most.
It will also be a great test of the manager and his ability to bring this now depleted squad together for one last push at three possible titles.
(understanding the CL is a big ask)
After watching the keane v viera documentary recently, it struck me just how aggressive, motivated and committed that arsenal squad of players were for each and every game of the season.
the desire to win and smash all in front of them was very noticeable.

NBN @ 56: In July the average temperature in Manaus is 27 degree Celsius and average humidity is 80% . Group D would take a significant toll on the already tired and bruised bodies of the players in the top league.

I still think there was something in my theory that players were holding back last Saturday, to avoid injury, so that they could give their all in Wednesday’s Internationals, thereby cementing their places in the World Cup squads.

Would Jack have played on for England, knowing he had a problem, had his spot in the Brazil bound side not been under scrutiny? He is very patriotic and is obviously desperate to be selected.

Sadly he has not only put his place in the England side in jeopardy but he has left us with yet another injury, which we can ill afford at this stage of the season. With his injury history, he should have left the field and saved himself for another day but the young always think they know best!

Looking forward to a great Cup tie tomorrow.

    As always COYRs

I still dont think so its a disaster losing jack, 6 weeks is bad but what i mean is he was actually poor in the last few games and we needed to have dropped him, yet injury leading to it is sad.
I think jack may end up being a perma crock until and unless everything is truly ready, which i doubt will ever happen. He will continue to enthral and infuriate us but in the end his appearances maybe limited, i pray to god not but i think that is what will happen.
Even if the gods conspire i still think we will win, not its not an empty boast, i do feel we will, i still think we will have players stepping up and be counted when truly needed, arise Aaron and Mesut.

You’re fae Fife, zico. You’re therefore likely tae be a Pict. Nae a refugee fae Paddyland.

  86. on 07 Mar 2014 at 11:40 am86takeabowson

Never a good thing for a player to be injured, especially at a time of the Season when the full squad will need to be utilised. Although Jack’s current form was a worry, there is no doubt that he would still have had a major part to play in the next six weeks. A big miss.

Neither do I really buy the Diaby analogy made above by Ttg. Whilst the serious injury that kept Jack out of Football for over a year can of course lead to complications, and there have been some suggestions that Jack has, to an extent, been nursed along to avoid those complications, that wasn’t the case with Wednesday’s injury. It was a clear impact injury which could happen at any time, irrespective of how often he plays. Jack’s way of playing – close control and dribbling coupled with a fearlessness in the tackle – will always mean that he will invite that type of challenge and will probably suffer more of those type of injuries than most.

I have no idea if playing on could either cause or worsen the hairline fracture – I’ll leave that to the medics – but either way it was bloody stupid of Jack to have done so. Silly boy.

Guessing that Ox will fill the void until Aaron is fit to resume. It will be interesting to see how we line up tomorrow.
