Reyes Gets His Move
Jul 30th, 2007 by 'holic
Anybody who was present when Jose Antonio Reyes introduced himself to the Highbury faithful with a spectacular double strike against Chelsea must be a little bit sorry to see his Arsenal career end, despite the circumstances of his departure.
Arsenal have been well and truly shafted by his unconcealed determination to return to his homeland and have been effectively blackmailed into accepting a cut-price bid for his services from Atletico Madrid, although the exact size of the fee has not been disclosed.
Many have ridiculed his pronouncements on the English weather, his perceived lack of intelligence, and his Romany background. For me though what sealed his fate was more a dislike of the physical aspect of the Premiership. The technical term for his shortcomings is, I believe, ‘lack of bottle’.
I hope he has found a club where he can settle. Not many players go on to better things when they leave Arsenal but there is little doubt if this boy discovers confidence, and a heart, he has the talent to prosper. I’m just not sure he will ever get to the end of the yellow brick road.
Also on the move is Kerrea Gilbert, the young right back, who is going to Southend on a six-month loan deal. Gilbert has impressed me on the few occasions I have seen him play, but it looks as though he is seen as fourth choice behind Sagna, Eboue, and Hoyte. This move may well suit both player and club, giving him a platform to impress and earn a return or a move to a club in the top two divisions. Good luck to him anyway.
Hopefully I will be back in a day or two with news of a signing or two instead of further departures. I won’t hold my breath though!

Good riddance to Reyes, frankly. Long overdue, a relief, and we got €12M for him which isnt bad. An added bonus that we didnt sell him to Real Madrid.
Gillbert had a quiet previous season on loan with Cardiff, and I dont think he impressed there. A pity, coz even I was impressed by him when he played a few games for us a couple of seasons back. Lets hope he can re-discover form, though I reckon all that will do is increase his transfer value.
Gilbert is more assured in getting forward than hoyte. I prefer gilbert to hoyte anytime.he deserved a run in the carling cup with Arsenal and i really believed that he have much more potential than hoyte.
No disrespect to the man, but i think hoyte is too lightweight and skinny for defensive job. very average in offensive aspect of his game and average at best in defensive duties.
