Nasri The Key To Unlocking Liverpool Defence?
Dec 20th, 2008 by 'holic
Will big-game Arsenal turn out for the visit of Liverpool? A similar question is being posed by supporters of our visitors in the last game before Christmas. The two sides who have already accounted for rivals Manchester United and Chelsea come face to face in the game of the weekend.
Two of Liverpool’s most polished performers, Skrtel and Torres, are likely to be missing. Apart from long term absentees Rosicky and Eduardo we will be missing Kolo Toure, possibly Nicklas Bendtner, and more importantly Theo Walcott, who confirmed his arrival in the big time at Anfield in last season’s Champions League quarter-final.
The scousers rarely play an expansive game in North London, and do not expect them to surprise tomorrow. They usually display a defensive solidity and cohesiveness that was once, but no more, an Arsenal trademark. Key to unlocking them may well be the likely-to-return Samir Nasri, tormentor of Manchester United just six weeks ago.
Nasri will add much-needed width and variety to the Gunners midfield. It is just possible that the other flank will be occupied by Emmanuel Eboue, slaughtered on his last home outing. At his best the Ivorian brings something to the side that Denilson does not, but how long is it since we saw his best? Good luck to him if he does start.
I expect Robin van Persie to fill a very fluid role, dropping back to bolster the midfield when Liverpool have the ball, but expected to support Adebayor when we are going forward. That may just confuse Liverpool’s markers sufficiently to allow us to pilfer a valuable goal, and secure a rare triumph for the ‘holic pound which is on 1-0 to the Arsenal.
Unfortunately I have another appointment tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully I will have the management home from the hospital in plenty of time to settle down in front of the small screen. Those of you fortunate to be going tomorrow, please make a little bit of extra noise to compensate for my cavernous missing gob! Have a great Sunday, everyone.
Come on you Gunners!

One last time to give Eboue a chance.
come on you arsenal!
absolutely nasri will attack and find ball back to the net ,i hope he will give supurb performance against liverpool
Arsene is very stupid and foolish, i pray he is sacked soon. R.I.P. arsenal(idiots, fools, long penis guys)
u fucking moron tru gunner u dont know what you are even talking about when arsene wenger won 7 trophies wat was you saying then when we won the league in 03-04 unbeaten i guarantee you was saying arsene wengers the best manager in the world wernt u you bloody prick get a fucking life about sacked
Since when are spuds c***s allowed to post. Tru gunner, go away and die! Tomorows game is vital and I must confess I thought Nasri was unavailable. That position is crucial and I wonder why AW continually plays someone out of position when he`s crocked. I`d be playing Ramsey there and I`d certainly be calling Traore back from Pompey, since he is wasted there and needs to be part of our set up, even if he has to play just ahead of Clichy when needed. We can`t afford to let another talented player slip through our fingers. I hear that Matty Upson is a target for Man City and I would have hoped that if he signed no-one else in January AW would heve re-signed him. I can`t remember Matty ever slagging off the club since he left us.
Am glad Nasri is back. He is not “there” yet in his overall play but he is a matchwinner. Liverpool are very strong and physical in midfield. They are weak in the full back area so I would like to see Eboue play. We badly need to win the next two especially the Villa game(Never thought id say that!)
Tru gunner is a scumbag you don’t just sack a good manager go and get a life! asshole
I’d suggest that Tru gooner is neither true or a gooner. Just saying like.
EVening ‘holic. Here’s to 3 points tomorrow.
Tru Gunner is just a spud fan on a wind up. Why they do it when they are fighting relegation shows how pathetic their fans are. Every year it is:
‘You are on your way down and we are on our way up’. How sad
So looking forward to the Scousers in town. Time to get another positive result under out belts before the festivities kick in. Let’s hope that Nasri makes it. Be nice to play with width and someone who can run at players. Bendtner’s absense should move Vela up the pecking order, which hopefilly is a plus.
Feeling good about the game. I think that if we take the game to them then we will be strong enough to come away with the 3 points. Bring it on.
Merry Christmas to all true Gooners everywhere.
Hopefully Clichy won’t screw it up big time again.
Wenger, buy a dm and put us out of our misery. What makeshift midfield have we got this time?
Almunia
Clichy – Djourou – Gallas – Sagna
Denilson/Song
Eboue – Fabregas – Nasri
v.Persie
Adebayor
Bench: Fabianski, Silvestre, Denilson/Song, Gibbs, Vela, Ramsey, Diaby
I do suspect Eboue will be motivated as hell, trying to prove the fans he is worthy to wear the red and white.
boys…i’m expecting a good but fruitful game tomorrow morning (u.s. here). i feel very confident that the guys are up for it and want a win BADLY! so do what you did against the other scousers: Manure and Chelski…..have pride and faith in rooting on your beloved Arsenal…..gooner4lyf
str8goon, have ou any idea about English fooball????? What planet are you on??? do you even know what a scouser is?? Manure and Chelski the other scousers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get back to watching rounders and netball. I’m a Liverpool fan, and I agree with the rest of you that Tru gunner is an idiot or spurs fan, what a clown. It’ll be a close match tomorrow, you play the more flowing footy but we have a stronger spine, probably be one goal in it at best (watch this now someone wil win 4-0 or something stupid).
As a Liverpool supporter the only other team of the ‘big four’ I like and don’t mind winning is Arsenal.
That said I am surprised that you still don’t have a quality defensive midfielder like mascherano or alonso.
The player that worries me more than any other of yours is Nasri.
He’s perfomances against Manchester United were outstanding as well as Chelsea.
Anyway I hope you do finish in the top 4 at the end of the season.
Also I have a quick question of the big 4 teams besides yourself which team would you like to see win it ?
Cheers
Welcome Septimus,
I can’t answer your question really. The three alternatives are as unpalatable to me as I’m sure they are to yourself.
I want my team to defy all logic and win the damn thing, but until we have a spine I don’t see that happening. Maybe January, eh?
I will say you look the most likely to me at the moment, but the league is won from February to May, as we discovered to our cost last season, and sometimes things conspire against you.
Good luck to you fella.
Guys, if we could also avoid text speak, I would be grateful. Cheers.
i think wenger needs improve his defence by signin a centre back in january and sign a blockin midfielder 4 fabregas then u will see d best of the team go on gunners
