Seven Up No Consolation As Nasri Breaks Leg
Jul 21st, 2009 by 'holic
SC Columbia 1 Arsenal 7
A jittery ATVO stream gave us a view of the Gunners first game in Austria. Those expecting Arsenal to dominate possession against their amateur opponents were not to be disappointed, but there was a marked lack of urgency for much of the opening half.
That was rectified after a freak goal gave the hosts an unexpected advantage, and within ten minutes of going behind the Gunners led 3-1 with two goals from Nicklas Bendtner, and one from man-of-the-match candidate Aaron Ramsey.
Ramsey added to his tally in a second-half which included a brace for Robin van Persie, and a headed goal for William Gallas. Armand Traore also caught the eye, and there was a rare midfield outing for Philippe Senderos.
Any thoughts that the Swiss defender may be retained for the season were all but dashed by Arsene Wenger afterwards, as he confirmed that Big Phil has opportunities elsewhere and has to decide what to do.
Samir Nasri
It didn’t take long for news of Samir Nasri’s broken fibula to spread from the club’s training base in Austria. Arsene Wenger said after the game against SC Columbia that the break was a clean and uncomplicated one and the little French genius would be missing ‘for six weeks’. At this stage that is possibly optimistic, and even if it is not then there will still be a period while Nasri recovers full fitness once the bone is sufficiently healed.
Regardless of how long it takes the timing is cruel for Samir, coming at the start of a World Cup season. Strangely his comeback may be delayed even further if Tomas Rosicky hits the ground running in the midfield berth made vacant by the accident.
Fingers are firmly crossed here for a full and rapid recovery for one of the top performers of last season.
Adebayor
He’s gone, and I’ve nothing to add to what I said last week. He’s history, so let’s move on.
The subject of a possible replacement is occupying lots of column inches. There has been so much courting between Arsenal and the Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh that one is left to draw the conclusion that his club must be holding out for an inflated fee, and one that Arsenal will not pay for a player with just a year left on his contract. I can’t think of any other reason.
It does however allow the comic that the Daily Mail has become to link us with all manner of clowns. Today however they have outdone themselves with a report linking us to Christy Brown’s right foot. I ask you, who buys this crap? You are keeping complete and utter incompetents in a job.

Wassup ‘holic. Just cracked a tube here, Bruce.
absolutely gutted about nasri. nice one ‘holic!
ha ha ha. lol. christy brown’s right foot. 🙂 vintage ‘holic.
I’ll leave the link there for a while, typical, but it looks as though someone at the rag is sufficiently embarrassed to have removed their fairy tale about Pavlyuchenko moving down the Seven Sisters Road.
I’ll bet they pulled it as soon as it had gotten ten hits… The Mail gets worse and worse. Can’t believe Martin Samuels, who sadly seems increasingly anti-Arsenal as of late, writes for that rag.
i saw the story earlier ‘holic and figured that was what you were referencing. a good laugh nonetheless
Thanks mate. Google still has it as the top option, although sadly don’t have a cached version of the page.
This much remains…
Roman Pavlyuchenko to Arsenal? Spurs striker tipped for £6m move …
21 Jul 2009 … Arsenal could find a new striker just a few miles up the Seven Sisters Road. Sensational reports in Russia claim Tottenham Hotspur have …
christy brown’s right foot. Heh
Just seen Manchester City beat the Kaizer Chiefs 1-0. I assume Liam and Noel organised that one. No wonder they needed Adebayor. In the next week they will need to improve hugely if they are to beat the Boo Radleys, followed by a difficult trip to the Nolan Sisters. 😉
Evening ‘holic. That’s somewhat good news about Nasri. I’m sure he’ll bounce back. He was out for a while at OM with meningitis, so he has experience coming back from freak absences. Good thing for us, though, is that winger is probably the only position that we have enough depth to cope with a major injury. Arshavin, Walcott, Rosicky, Eboue, Wilshere, and Traore can all play there if necessary. Personally I hope he give Jacko a chance. He’s just a boy, but I bet he can step up to even the biggest of occasions.
Ahoy Holics!
Ahoy Dubs, and welcome Gunnerkid.
I think the injury will enable Wenger to sidestep the issue of playing Fabregas, Arshavin, Nasri, and Rosicky in the same midfield for a while…
Nasri news a real shame. Just when we had started to get players back and fit.
We need a replacement for Ade. End of. I am sure Le Boss has his mind made up. Another one or two would be nice but I am not as hopeful as I was a few weeks back.
Keep the faith.
Too funny ‘holic.
Good stuff Mr. ‘holic.
Pity about nasri. Had high hopes of him playing in a 4-5-1 formation as the covering right-sided central midfielder next to Rosicky and slightly behind Fabregas.
Looks like Diaby’s training over the summer did toughen him up…1st Nasri, i hope Adebayor will be next. When are we playing Citeh?
*rubs hands in glee*
Just had a quick peek at the highlights. Particularly impressed with Aaron Ramsey. Shall wait for better opposition and see how his new bulked up bionic body fares.
Here is your Mail piece, ‘holic.

Arsenal could find a new striker just a few miles up the Seven Sisters Road. Sensational reports in Russia claim Tottenham Hotspur have offered Roman Pavlyuchenko to their arch-rivals for just £7million. Arsene Wenger looks like being forced into the transfer market following the £25m sale of Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City and injury to Samir Nasri that will keep him out for about three months.
Tottenham’s Roman Pavlyuchenko. Sportsmail reported this week that Toulouse striker Andre-Pierre Gignac is Wenger’s preferred target, though Bordeaux’s Marouane Chamakh, Hoffenheim’s Demba Ba and Newcastle’s Obafemi Martins are also in his sights.
However, Russian tabloid Tvoi Den claims Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has gone directly to Arsenal to offer 27-year-old Pavlyuchenko, who has bought a house near London following his £13.8m move from Spartak Moscow last summer. He has been linked with Villarreal, Stuttgart, and Besiktas among others, and an associate of his says he knows nothing of apparent interest from Roma.
Viktor Kolar, who is not Pavlyuchenko’s primary agent but played a part in the deal taking him to Tottenham, said: “I don’t know anything. By reading the papers I learned that the club (Roma) would make a move for the player, but with regards to myself no one has made me aware of anything. “There’s nothing concrete because there have been no offers made either to the club or to the player.I don’t have any idea how they can write that Roman will be at Roma. I spoke to the management and I know that next year he will be part of a serious project. He still has many years on his contract and he intends to prove also in England how much he is worth.”
A move to Arsenal, as unlikely as it sounds, would see him team up with national team-mate Andrey Arshavin.
Thank you Mailman,
I’ve looked at Mr Gray’s other stuff. Spends a lot of time reading Russian papers and American womens football pages, does he not?
Is he capable of original thought?
What a lot of codswallop.
I’ll have an Irish Coffee, please ‘holic.
The Daily Mail has also an article saying this:
“Madrid last week accepted Stuttgart’s bid of £15.6m – that could rise to £17.3m with add-ons – but Huntelaar has taken his time agreeing the move.
German newspaper Bild were confident enough on Tuesday to report it as a done deal, but talks between the 25-year-old and Stuttgart slowed.
Spanish newspaper AS said the official explanation was that they were still haggling on Stuttgart meeting his £60,000 a week Bernabeu wages, but that unofficially Huntelaar was waiting for better offer.”
I was expecting higer wages… sounds like we could pay them.
The article mentions us as being interested, but it’s the Mail so it could be just made up.
Ramsey looks like he has been working out and now physically ready for the Premiership. Looks promising.
Pfff. It seems the press can write anything, hoping to out-do their competition with the most deluded and ridiculous ‘story’, in an attempt to sell a copy of their paper.
I wouldn’t even wipe my arse with them.
I just wonder if the power of the internet for passing news has affected sales and the only way to compete is to publish weird and wacky sh!t, just to grab our attention.
Anyhoo, enough of that. The footy is sooo close now, i can almost taste it!
Christy Brown’s right-foot, priceless!
