Slag The Fans, Way To Go Rooney
Jun 18th, 2010 by 'holic
Well, who would have thought since I last wrote that Spain, France, and Germany would crash to defeats. From a European perspective I would rather France had not deteriorated into a poorly led rabble, and my pocket hopes the Spanish performance was a blip. Perhaps they should concentrate on the football a little more, and wooing Cesc a little less.
At last the tournament has started to come to life, and there has been another standout performance. Argentina look ominously good going forward, and the 4-1 triumph over South Korea captured exactly what they bring to the party. It remains to be seen if they are defensively equipped to handle their major rivals in the latter stages of the competition, but they will fancy their chances of outscoring the Spaniards and the Brazilians.
Ahead of England’s clash with Algeria the United States produced a wonderful comeback from two goals down, and were desperately unlucky to see a potential winner ruled out. However, what should have been a relative formality for Capello’s men could yet turn out to be a ‘group of death’.
Few words can capture the anguish of those watching the hapless shambles tonight. Well, in Wayne Rooney’s case the fewer the better would have been true. There are England fans who have spent six months salary (yes, what you get paid every day, Rooney) to follow this over-rated shambles to another continent. They deserve better than your brainless condemnation after your ninety minute impersonation of a bag of cement.
I’m reminded of the description of a top centre-forward in the seventies, by a manager who shall remain nameless, as having the speed of a racehorse, the strength of a shire horse, and the brains of a rocking horse.
Perhaps those who value industry and bone-crunching ‘tackles’ above technical and tactical nous have got the team they deserve. Will this be the wake-up call that the Football Association so desperately need? I doubt it. A scrambled victory over Slovenia next week would take England through to the last sixteen. That will satisfy the suits.
Sad.
Emails – An Apology
I had a surprisingly quiet couple of days on the email front. I didn’t even get any business offers from Nigeria, promises of a bigger penis, or exciting drug opportunities. It took rather too long for the penny to drop. I had a problem in the background and they didn’t get through for a couple of days until yesterday afternoon.
So if you did try to contact me earlier in the week, and did not get a response, please accept my apologies. Feel free to contact me again, unless you are informing me of my multi-million pound win in this months Microsoft lottery.
Have a good weekend, ‘holics.

At least the French didn’t pay their manager £7m for their shower of shite!
Actually, ‘holic I don’t even know if a victory over Slovenia will make a difference. If the US beat Algeria, England would have to win by two or more goals. Tall order given today’s performance.
He’s such a shit head.. overrated just like majority of the England team, who only look good on their club teams because of the great foreign players around them to make them look good.
er no, because then england would have 5 points and slovenia 4.
Josh not quite sure how you’ve worked that out but if we beat slovenia we will be on 5 points whilst slovenia will be on 4 points.
4 – 1 – 3 – 1 – drop lard arse – its the only way! rooney gerrad just behind , j cole, carrick, wright phillips, barry , back four , kepper – Hart
A point I have argued many times, TSM, and why the English national side is over-rated despite perpetuallly under-performing.
keeper???
kevnal, with any luck Lampard is still in the Algerian’s pocket and won’t be freed before the final game.
Rooney you’re a prized cunt. While you enjoyed your first class flight and luxury all expenses paid trip to South Africa, oh and your six figure monthly salary. Bear in mind that some people actually paid money out their own pocket to watch you play.
If you and the rest of the tossers in England shirts want to play like a pub team playing with a hangover then the paying public have every right to boo your shit performance.
It was bad enough having watched the shower of shite performance on TV, If I’d had of paid thousands for a flight, hotel, food and other expenses to watch it live I probably would have ran on the pitch and gave you a smack in the mouth let alone boo you.
Twat!
Josh you speak tosh,England have to win by 2? If England win they are through regardless of score.
The problem i see is that other teams seem to be enjoying themselves, joking, having fun, enjoying the whole world cup experience. We turn up in those suits to every game looking so serious and very rarely crack a smile. yes its a job they have to do out there but the England players need to relax and enjoy it, something i dont think they can do under Capello.
There is not 1 character in the England team.
Let the truth be told england have no world class players, we have been lied to for years by the media that gerrad, lampard, rooney are world class, yes when they play for their clubs because they have world class players around them. where,s nani and valencia when you need them to lay it on a plate for rooney, or torres and benayouin to make gerrad look good oops alonso also, or drogba and malouda to manouvere space for lampard to shoot via deflections. Who is englands playmaker, the last one we had was gasgoinge, the closest is joe cole and we either play him on the left or the bench. Lets wake up and smell the coffee, every country passes the ball better than england with flair, creativity, imagination, skill whereas we just want strong athletic runners who cant even dribble. England has skillful players but johnson, wilshere and a few others and until we take the route of germany and bllod this youngsters we would continually be embarrased on the world and european stage. we qualified easily by beign the highest scoring team in europe but you wouldnt hear the likes of lineker, dixon, shearer and hansen question the quality of the opposition who havent got a strong league in their country i.e andorra, belarus, ukraine and if we are not careful before long they will be toying with us too just like the algerians did tonight.

just heard an England fan got into their dressing room at full time, hope he told them what we all think and took a big shit in rooneys boots.
@marcus: at the same time the english fa won’t keep their manager in charge for another 6 years of horrid football.
It’s the english national sport to snipe the national team but from rather neutral perspective Algeria played very well. They were excellently organized, pressing all the time and they managed to keep a threatening aspect to their game. It’s to their credit to make the opposition look disorganized and powerless. Oh and their GK had a great game too. Is he for sale?
Capello has fallen into the trap all the previous managers have; the “old guard”.
Apparently some players are ‘undroppable’ and this is quite clearly why we may not progress to the next stage. Once we have a manager who understands how to win international football matches, and isn’t just paid £Xm per year to pick the same team my mother would choose from having only read the back of the Malton Gazette & Herald, we might stand a chance. But that was pathetic.
There can be no excuses. Not the ball, the altitude, the heat, the pitch – we were rubbish and what makes it worse is that the players clearly didn’t care that we were rubbish.
I almost hope we go out in last place, if that is what it takes to shake up the pathetic self-serving English FA.
Thank god capello kept his golden boy back from all that drivel he must have known he was taking a crap team with him, lennon and wright phillip were superb on that right wing always a goal threat, picking out their mates when they sent in a cross. I can imagine golden boy thanking his lucky stars he hasnt been tarnished with the same brush as those prats. earning 100k a week doesnt make you a better player than 20k a week its all about who you know and where you come from. ENGLAND ARE CRAP
why is there no pride in the jersey from arsenal fans anymore, the french were worse in this tournment and arsenal provided more than our share of there squad and not a word said about them tossers.
oh, bye the way fabregas wont be at the emirates next season
Spot on TSM and BigL
I feel resentful giving up a Friday night with my wife and kids to watch that on TV.
Actually, I probably didn’t feel THAT resentful until Rooney opened his thick gob and said what he did (and what Gerrad said afterwards about Algeria for that matter “They probably think that’s their World Cup Final” – arrogant condescending twat!!!)
If I’d actually forked out money to fly over there to watch it…..better left unsaid.
Im glad Capello did not take Walcott with him. He is much better than playing with this England. I do not understand some managers. How do you waste so much hourse power…. Wallcot is very dangerous weapon and nobody can convince me that Lenon or Philips are better than him in any way … I can not wait seeing walcott playing for arsenal.
But do not worry Dominque is much worse, he left nasri and benzema and now looking for creativity and goal scoring .. just sad.
Somewhat of a disappointing news: it looks like Jay Simpson is on his way out. According to Young Guns Arsenal are trying to sell him now as he has one year left on his contract.
It’s disheartening to see how many talented and hardworking youngsters don’t make the cut. Simpson was a pure Arsenal academy product (since he was nine) and had very promising spells in his career. A real gooner. What a shame…
“I almost hope we go out in last place, if that is what it takes to shake up the pathetic self-serving English FA.”
They won’t though. They’ll blame the foreigners instead of recognising that they could actually learn something from them and that it needs to start from a young age.
Just designed a new shirt for the final match….
About as subtle as ‘our’ gameplan
http://greenseedtesting.com/rubbish.png
Compared to gazza, lampard, barry, gerrad are just journeymen, just robots. Why havent england produced playmakers, in the 90’s one was enough in todays football you need three plus a holding midfielder whose stong in the tackle and intelligent on the ball like senna of spain. we need midfielders who love to love and caress the football not just drive it 30 yards ala hoddle and even he was skillful and misused by england. guys cant you see a pattern here england dont trust skillful footballers they are seen as a liability by the press and fans alike.
What England have are stock players. What makes them bad is that they’re overpaid stock players. Being stock players means not much immagination or creativity, being overpaid means not much desire. ‘The emperors new clothes’ is a story that comes to mind. Having good stock players is a good thing and when English football decide that they’re not going to kick immagination and talent off the field, then we might get more players that can make the difference in these games.
i love how walcott was made into a scapegoat for every bad england performance.. now everyone can see that this group of players and the manager are an overrated bunch of as*holes.. couldnt think of anyone better to bring on if youre struggling than theo for england anyway..
that wat happens when u have no arsenal players theo is a player that changes games he did it against barca when we were 2-0 loookin hopeless but capeelo is a moron
I thought Capello was gold but he has shown that either England are a bunch of donkeys or he cannot pick his own nose properly let alone an England XI
I think it is more the latter with a sprinkle of the former.
Ashley Cole is good (even if he is now a Chav)
Johnson is good
Carragher had a good game but if he is the third choice centre back then we are in serious trouble! And he misses the next game.
Gerrard is the only midfielder putting in any effort.
Subbing SWP for Lennon doesn’t make sense they are both the same – useless. Why take both – if Walcott had gone instead of one of them at least we would have had a speed option.
AND FINALLY
If Heskey ever starts another game for England I am cheering for the other team – DONKEY.
My line up:
James
Johnson Upson Terry Cole
Carrick
SWP Gerrard Lampard Rooney
J. Cole
Crouch
This is exactly the kind of match, Capello is going to regret he didnt have Walcott to call upon.
I wonder if the England team has a similar problem to France’s. Internal divisions inside the team, re power and egos, affecting the managers ability to get the best out of the team. I may be wrong but the few games before the WC, players weren’t giving Walcott any service. He looked isolated somehow. It was noticeable because Capello changed it at half time and replaced Theo. Nobody has mentioned the fact that he also changed loads of others, including the central midfield personel. These players were then spraying passes more evenly and using SWP or whoever effectively. I read somewhere that Rooney didn’t want Walcott. Don’t know if true but I can see it. I mean, Theo was virtually on the plane. Can you see Lemon scoring a hatrick in an important qualifier? England were abyssmal today. They really did not look united at all. Not a team. Bit like the french the other day. Just a thought.
It was clearly trouble when the most energetic player, and link-up man was Hesky. Did you see him shed tears when he was subbed?
Did Rooney ever chase a ball he lost or gave away?
Algeria ran rings around England — did anyone have pace?
But, Holic, why do two of your posters practically cut and paste mean and vapid commits from that MPalmer, that self-absorbed elitist racist?
England looked like the oldest team at the Cup — not up to speed. Theo would have made no difference.
Kick & run football with zero creativity in mid-field. We now know why Arsene Wenger signs so few English players.
Here’s why Arsenal is not complaining to UEFA about the tapping of Cesc. Here’s an interview of Laurent Koscielny, in which he says:
Q: Did Arsene Wenger contact you himself?
A: Yes. Arsenal have contacted my agents in the week following the last day of the championship. I met Arsene Wenger and so did my agents. Everything went well.
So Koscielny is in the first year of his four-year contract with Lorient. Unless I’m unclear about the rules (and I may be) isn’t this textbook tapping up?

‘holic you said it with this sentence; “Few words can capture the anguish of those watching the hapless shambles tonight.”
As a born SAffer who lives in England, trying to get my daughter behind the country of her birth, this was a disappointment of the first order.
I would like England to succeed (as Bafana Bafana have left themselves and impossible task), but this is testing us to the hilt.
I suppose that was with Lorient’s consent since AW submitted a bid for him.
If not, then it is tapping up 😀
@YB: Well it looks like the Bafana Bafana will have the opportunity to leave the WC on a high note given the recent french performances…
@Snir: I suppose you’re right. Lorient’s manager is Yohan Gourcuff’s father so I guess the last thing Arsenal want would be to upset him, just in case…
I was kind of wondering why Rooney and Gerrard were bringing the ball up the pitch from their own penalty area all the time. It appears Capello wants our Centre forwards to be defenders. Chump. When you play a 6-4-0 formation, goals are hardly going to fly in!
Leaving Theo behind now seems a massive mistake with a team so short of big match appetite. Regardless of the critisism of him he turned BIG champion league matches….Liverpool & Barce. This England team lacks any big game players… nothing world class at all. End of.
As an outsider, interesting comments on England tonight.
Overpaid, overhyped and overvalued is right.
Capello is a very successful manager but
There was a dearth of footballing brains on the pitch.
Walcott could have made a difference. He is better off out of it.
Heskey makes things happen and set up the only England goal so far. It seems he cares as well. That makes him better than Rooney.
It seems that English players can’t recreate the EPL on their own. They need something that foreigners bring to the game.
James/Hart
Johnson Carragher Terry Cole
Lampard Barry
Lennon J. Cole
Gerrard
Rooney
Problem solved, hasn’t given J.Cole a minute mind bogglin
england should go out with the performance they have shown in the competition, its an embarassment and i cant help but put the blame onto the manager, why he has stuck on two wingers(lennon & wright-phillips), yes with speed but with no end product, it is a waste of english talent especially when there is joe cole on the bench, why he hasnt brought him on is mind boggling? can someone help? cant be his fitness, hes proved his fitness to get into the team, cole can dribble, take the ball into the box. something that was missing all night. not one english player dared to take on a player with the ball, why? scared that they would look stupid if they failed? let me assure you guys who represent our country nothing you would have done would of put you in worst of a picture, wait a minute rooney did exactly that when he muttered something about his own fans booing england wdf? fan pay hard earned money to support you guys for what? to watch crap like that? rooney you idiot, if the manager was brave he would drop you because you havent done anything to show that you are world class, england need to drop lampard and put cole on the left and put gerrard back into the centre and support rooney if he gets a second chance. i hope they get through but they dont deserve to so far
heskey and cole that seem to put any passion or pride into the game i see people calling heskey a donkey he has been playing a lot better then gerrard, rooney or any other english player bar cole and it is beyound me why joe cole is not starting games. gerrard was awfull so sloppy losing the ball way to many times in the middle of the park and terry looks awkard aswell.
England have assembled a collection of good players, but they certainly not a team!
clive thats a great line up, but youre only allowed to play 11 mate
a talisker for me and one for yourself Holocaust
dam predictive text!
-holocaust
+holic
England should have drop welcot that is england problem now because all those winger are full of shit.. if welcot is there he will bring down any defense but wright philip ,lenon all bullshit.. england is coming home without winning one match
england call on welcot back to make d team win… capello welcot head don get u.haha looser
joe ir exactly.when Heskey is your best player, you know something is very wrong because he is plain shit decent work rate but he is a striker and he never score.he make very easy to defend and you can have two player on Rhone.
Next match drop Carragher,Gerrard,Lemon Heskey,Calamity James
Hart
Johnson Upson Terry Cole
Barry
LAmpard Milner
J.Cole
Defoe Rooney
You dont need Headless chicken like lemon or SWP
Shame england dont have a decent RB because GJ is a fucking joke
Parker,Cahill, theo.zamora, bent would have come handy but hey better coming to the world cup with unfit player(King,Rio,Barry)as been (Gerrard, carragher)than them i suppose.
Lordgunner you r an absolute fruitcake! On what basis do you drop those 5 players? Based on the last 2 games at least 4 of them still deserve to be in, yet you keep lamptard n Rooney n drop James for hart? R u fkn retarded? Haha your not secretly capello r u?
Stevie – too funny – SWP should not be in there – let Joe Cole, if he is fit, try and link the mid to the forwards
Though we might score with 12 on the field but I would not put a bet on it!
This england side could not score in a free brothel.
Theo Walcott finally cracks (from the Guardian)
The mood turned poisonous moments later when a fan wearing an England replica kit barged his way through the security around the changing rooms and shouted abuse at Beckham, who is a non?playing member of Fabio Capello’s staff. The supporter was eventually pulled away by stewards.
Now watch what happens in the media. Instead of a reasoned analysis with the conclusion that our league is obsessed with physical strength and size and pays far too little heed to technique and skill, we’ll have the media turning the poor England performance into the fault of too many foreigners in the league. It is not in their interest to upset the prima donnas on whom they rely for vapid quotes and ghost written columns. The FA will of course be complicit as this self serving collection of talent vacuums deflect attention from the fact that they struggle to build a national fotball ground on the plot where formerly there was only a national football ground and for just less than £1 billion yet in an era where football and they are awash with cash, they can’t put in place a centralised scheme for developing talent let alone a national coaching centre.
As long as the likes of Allardyce, Pulis, Warnock, Boothroyd and co are allowed and encouraged to espouse the outmoded and disingenuous approach of Charles Hughes England will be condemned to repeat the same mistakes.
The fact that Any human would go to a world cup and boo their nations team is shameful…….. Disgusting!
Foz, did you skip reading the ‘holic’s entry? Or for that matter any of the comments listed above you?
@54
Agree totally….lack of technical football ability really is at the heart of the England team’s failings.
Purely personal, but isn’t watching the World Cup a serious comedown versus club football? I think a middling Premier League side would walk past anything I’ve seen bar perhaps Argentina / Mexico thus far.
Tim,
At the risk of turning this into a love-in, I agree. Which is why FIFA and UEFA spend so much of their time trying to destabilise club football.
why are we having to watch an italians representation of an england sideany way, the word cup is supposed to be a celebration of different footballing cultures well why are we playing to an italians tune , its a pure joke , capello not even worked in the prem our players neva worked abroad no wonder its not working .
but this is what our great f.a has given us in their ultimate wisdom .
i want to see an england team playing an english way then i would have no complaints win lose or draw now i just feel mugged off .
Cheers, ‘holic, and nice use of the word shambles!
Jonno,
Probably because a) he actually has experience of winning things both as a player and a manager at the highest level
b) No English manager is good enough. Witness the fact that so few of our managers manages abroad. The queue to beat down Allardyce’s door from La Liga and Serie is conspicuously short.
c). So few managers are willing to put up with an unholy combination of having your life ruined by a lazy talentless press intruding into your life allied to a list of the available talent to pick from which is shorter than Sean Wright Phillips.
Apart from that, I completely agree.
“Visionary”,
I like the irony in your selected name. Blind as a bat, sharp as the proverbial rocking horse.
England were poor but none poorer than Rooney and Lump’alard. Lennon and Philips cannot find their team mates and lose possession to often. The case for Walcott can surely be made.
On the other hand, James had a good game and Terry was shown to be short at this level – AGAIN!
over paid, over rated, over too quick. if you put a B. team made up from the championship with any other manager, them lads would run thier socks off for the country. this lot are multi millionairs, why should they break into a sweat. roll on real football, come on arsenal
Big, big thanks to all for some very reasoned contributions. A word on our perception of the media response. When I mentioned on Twitter the dinosaurs in the media getting the team they deserve I was not tarring all of the football journos with the same brush. There are some very good ones out there who understand well our technical deficiencies and will argue the case eloquently. However, clockendrider sums up the worst, who will lay the blame at the door of too many foreign players and managers diluting the typical English values. So predictable. So populist. So wrong.
Thanks rider.
Now I am not an England supporter being Irish and even then I would rather Arsenal win the CL than Ireland win the World cup.
I have to admit that watching England bunch of “too old” “too brittle”, Too well paid” and ” too believing of their own press” journeymen run about like headless chickens.
Superb.
I wonder though, what would the scorelines have been had Walcott and Bent been available AND started? That would never happen of course because Wayne Rooney “Carrying the hopes of England” (too funny for words) doesn’t like playing with them so Capello left them at home.
Joe Hart between the sticks probably would have helped too eh.
I think we need more English Grit and Passion as there are too many French Players in our national team who don’t like it up ’em.
These Johnny Foreigners are ruining our National Team!!!
We need more English Players in the English National Team
‘i want to see an england team playing an english way then i would have no complaints win lose or draw now i just feel mugged off .’
They were playing in an English way. Shit, no technique, and running around with no visible reward.
ENGLAND V SLOVENIA

TIMELY REMINDER!!

Wonder if the BAD KARMA is gonna come back and bite Rooney at the worst time possible!

‘i want to see an england team playing an english way then i would have no complaints win lose or draw now i just feel mugged off .’

==============================================
English way? Technique? Are you confused? Did you mean Thuggery and Leg Breaking techniques?
Not many will agree but England miss Theo Walcott as a super sub. England needed something different when they beat Croatia and the difference was Walcott. Now taking Walcott out of the equation, England have nothing different and look flat!!
An Irish Gunner here, just wanted to give my views on your national teams performance –
Rooney looks injured, certainly looks like he is carrying some kind of knock. Even on an off day, its unusual to see Rooney playing without desire and fight. If he is injured, England could be in trouble.
While I agree that England seem to have a lack of emphasis on technique, this is no excuse – you have been out-performed in desire, conviction etc. As an Irish fan, we know how important hard work and desire are…..we rely on it to carry us through, as we are not at your level of skill.
If I was an England fan, I could forgive a poor result or performance provided the desire and work-rate was evident, however, there appears to be a real problem here.
I think something is wrong with the team spirit of your squad, the players are at cross purposes and dont seem to be fighting for each other or the shirt.
The very best of luck to you in the rest of the tournament.
Fair comments, Irish, bar one. I don’t think we are technically superior to Ireland. Tactically maybe most of the time, but the lack of technique is evident in this side. They cannot retain the ball, they lack creativity, and without the degree of good fortune that accompanies one hundred percent commitment they are looking for the paddle store on the banks of Shit Creek.
no, wenger is not tapping up koscielny because he has official permission from lorient to speak to him. whereas arsenal has not given official permission to barcelona to speak to barcelona.
Before this W.C. started the general view was that realistically England could make the quarter or semi final, and having watched one of the most inept performances by our national team in years, it seems that only a miracle will see that happen. One can talk about all the different formations, but the fact is that we don’t have the depth in squad, and many are pinning their hopes that if selected Joe Cole could turn things around.I have stated before, that we play too much football, and didn’t it show last night. The players, especially Rooney (who I believe is carrying an injury)looked tired and generally bereft of any sort of team play. The substitution of Lennon for SWP was bizarre, Rooney’s outburst was sheer frustration, and James’s comments were to say at least a tad sarcastic. Is there unrest in the camp ?.Does Capello, who 2 years on still hardly speaks English, really know his best team to fit the occasion ?.I would say no.We can of course still qualify, and an opportunity has been lost, having seen Spain and Germany lose, and other surprising results, one would think there would be little or no motivation needed,it should come naturally, but the lame excuse by the players is that the minnows of Algeria made the game difficult for England.A sad night for our national game.Thank God we didn’t have any players out there, because for sure the media would have been right down their throats. As said above some players, regardless how shite they play are untouchable to critism .
Holic –
I appreciate Englands technique is not up to the standards of past players, Gazza etc. but believe me, your national squad is still miles ahead of ours in this department! We have only a few players who are genuinely skilled, or at least, as skilled as most of your players.
Im as confused as the rest of you really. Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney etc. are all top quality players and in any walk of life its frustrating to see talent wasted or un-used.
Maybe I was a bit harsh on the work-rate thing, but there was a real lack of urgency about England in the last 2 games. That would be the real worry for me if I was an English fan.
As for Rooneys comments, its hard to blame fans for booing when they have emptied their bank accounts to see performances like that.
I hope that you find your form soon. This world cup is seriously lacking in entertainment, the big nations need to step up and perform.
Will be interesting to see if Capello does to Rooney, Lampard, Heskey what he done to Rob Green. Green made one mistake, ok it cost us a goal, but how many “goals” have the 3 mentioned missed which is just as costly.
No room for draws or defeats now the knockouts have started a match early for us, he must go for the win. He should drop all 3 as well as Johnson and Lennon go 3 at the back with Milner and Cashley as wing backs and go with this line up.
James
Dawson, Terry, Upson
Milner, Gerrard, Barry, J Cole, A Cole
Crouch Defoe
: dgob :
the irony in your name is not lost as your mouth appears to be as big as GALWAY BAY and the setting sun has done untold damage with the 2 brain cells in your head
arsenals english support may as well get behind england, afterall its bad enough your clubs identity being taken away without being a traitor to your country also, and we have half this french squad wearing our new kit next year
as for theo, after paying his wages for the last 6yrs and the 2 games he changed on his own, neither of which we won by the way the only squad id have him in is the olympic squad for 2012.
now if some sports company could micro chip a football to do the 100 meters in 9seconds flat and wenger puts it in theos lane for the final and tells him to run like hell after that well im sure a winners medal would look good in the arsenal trophy cabinet
Delighted that england are living up to their potential as an average side because thats all ye are and all ye will ever be. Going by the english papers and the way they built ye up like gods months before the world cup makes it all the sweeter.
Now here’s to ye messing up in your last game and being eliminated so the rest of us no longer have to listen to the shite talk from english fans
From a happy Irish man:)
And before ye start with the at least we’re there i dont really give a fuck, what happened in the french game is in the past, we dont cry about a handball thats over and done with unlike a certain other nation 🙂
1986 anyone???
how can starfish gerard who has been pure shit for liverpool this season walk on to the england team as captain. joke. thats why englands going out. shit players who walk into the team because of thier name. for fucks sake golden balls would have been on only he got injured
I disagree about Rooney, mr ‘holic.
Fans that boo their own team are sad – no matter what they spend to go and see them.
I hear you, and understand what you are saying, Pip. I happen to feel though that there is a difference in the bond between supporter and club, and supporter and country.
I have chosen my club. They are in my heart. I support them because I choose to, not because I have to.
Watching my country, I demand only one thing. The players, who are supposed to be the best we have to offer, should at the very least give a hundred percent.
When players who I don’t particularly like, and who play for clubs I do not particularly like, put up a shambolic display like England did last night, then I think they can at least expect, if not thoroughly deserve, to be roundly jeered.
I have no problem with anybody who thinks differently, but I think we saw last night that thousands agree with me, so to label them sad is not justified, in my opinion.
“Visonary”,
I almost smiled, at points. Your obviously one of those new-money (and equally short termed glory) lot from down the road.
Your lads have surely proved their credentials on the world stage ovewr the past week!! Here’s a prediction for you: Gibbs new left back and soon to be best in the world at his position (bye Cashley Hole); Theo to be the number one choice on the right for England; Wilshere to be the player of choice in the centre (bye Fat-Frank).
Now that’s visionary, only backed up with a little reality based on some footballing knowledge and a modicum of intelligence. Again, you lot are just short here!!!
Dgob, you are a welcome addition here fella. Just be sure the clever digs don’t turn to personal abuse. I don’t want slanging matches here, if at all possible.
Visionary, please respect other posters here, and their point of view. By all means put forward your points in a reasoned manner, if you can.
Thanks.
The England team went out to visit an orphanage in Cape Town on Saturday morning.
“It’s good to put a smile on the faces of people with no hope, constantly struggling and facing the impossible,” said Jamal Umboto, aged 6.
holic, sorry for getting on your wrong side with you having to feel me collar as they say and i can promise you it will not happen again. i may have a slight bit of banter with you in the future and i know you can take it as you are a legend in bogland
dgob, glad you resisted laughing as i was quiet serious about theo, now if i said the football was micro chipped to do the 100 meters in 6 seconds and wenger says to theo :run like hell after it but dont touch it for crying out loud as you will only injury yourself you injury prone cu£t : now are the knashers showing just a bit
holic sorry that should of read BLOGLAND
No worries v.
Most will ban those who don’t agree with them. I don’t see the point of that if they are being lucid and respectful.
If I wanted to do a blog just for mates I would make it a login job. Just don’t abuse anyone and we’re fine.
H2H, I love that gag, in all its forms 😉
Well Holic here’s another one for ya;
South African police have given up the search for the intruder who entered the England camp when they came to the conclusion that Green probably let him in.
Heh!
Here’s what Rooney should have said — once you use FreeTranslation.com to cut through Cuntese: “These people paid all this money and came all this way, and we couldn’t even give them an honest-effort draw, like. We deserrrrve to be booed off the pitch.”
Kevnal said, “Drop lard arse.” Could you be a bit more specific? England have a few of those.
didnt really know that europeans held a small european alliegiance (spelling) to other european nations!
but i was infuriated at the disallowal of the usa goal which basically denied them the opportunity to finish top of the group. although we still have the chance to earn it next match, if that happend to england, it would be bloody murder. im sure the referee would be axed already if it happened to france!
Following on Nicholas return to England after a slight spat with the Dominican, Gael’s replacement Evra said (his was on Euronews as translated into english), ‘anyone can have a disagreement with the manager, that happens – what we want to know is who is the rat who let this out’
I look forward to anytime between now and Wednesday, when it comes out what Gerrard actually said to Capello during the match when he came to the side as play stopped in the 2nd half for an injury when (I think) he said something about Rooney – if anyone has a video perhaps they could check it out. At that point, it seemed as if every time Rooney had touched the ball he lost it, and was clearly fed up and should have been withdrawn for Joe C
As far as I’m concerned the side was a set of individuals playing, not a team, no cohesion , no ideas. I have to question the management style which announces the team 2 hours before the match. The players at that time should be relaxing, knowing their roles and responsibilities, rather than thinking why has he done this or that, and seeing their mates disappointed at not being picked etc.
As far as whether Theo would have made a difference, the answer is still no – ‘cos the team were incapable of using the strengths of Lennon or SWP either
further to my last, I just saw John Terrys conference statement.
2 questions arise – how did JT explain his own poor performance – was he being played out of position when he did that pass back?
How will the meeting tonight go down with Capello who is known to have a strong personality – should someone be making reservations for any early flight home for some players….
You don’t know how good you have it! England is a dream team… compared to France 😉 At least the players are still willing to go to trainings.
Lastest poll in France: 75% want SA to win the next game. All boards are erupting in anger. Most are calling for immediate withdrawal of the french team from the WC. French drama at its best.
Now what was it you were saying about the Ingerland team?
anelka is very stupid.he should have done a zidane on domenech (run to him and headbutt him).
This way he would have a hero welcome in france, shame he only done an Anelka, opening his stupid mouth as he has always done when nothing happen .
you have to realise that in France things are different from England
Here players are over paid madonnas and call the tune over their managers
In England – doh – I just saw JTerry’s rehearsed speech telling Capella to obey a team vote!!
Otherwise is it just the Chelski mob – they’ve over valued themselves since the special one told them how great he thought they were
Matt and ‘Holic,
a couple of days ago I mentioned a tour I had around the Training and Medical Centre, which was very interesting to me, particularly, as a Sports Physio.
Matt and Snir had previously swapped notes on an article about Milan Lab, and I followed up Snir’s pointer to a Financial Times interview with Mr Meersseman, the head of the Lab.
It made for extremely interesting reading and was based exactly on the lines upon which I have developed my own Practice over 21 years.
Matt seemed keen to get some further thoughts in relation to Arsenal’s injury problems.
I would be very happy to post a comment but it would turn out to be quite a long piece.
So, ‘Holic, I didn’t want to post a long piece completely off topic.
It would be great to get your thoughts on the injury situation, and i could then chip my thoughts in on the drinks.
Or, would you rather i sent them in some other form, as they will be lengthy.
@Anyonebutengland.
Sorry I’m late in answering your comment, but I live in Mayo and the Irish have not stopped moaning about the handball by Henry.
When France lost to Mexico there were celebrations and the commentators (Irish) said:
A team in green has got revenge on the cheating French.
Don’t come here with your sanctimonious bullshit.
@Trev
I’m totally in for that…
I actually was so worried before your post about the lack of preperation and you really eased my thoughts, thanks for that – You made me sleep a bit better at night 🙂
To be honest, in my unproffesional opinion I just think that our injuries are due to our possession and they way we pass that irritate opponents and the others are plain muscle injuries just like in any other team.
Barca/Spain also have lots of injuries due to their possession.
Am I in the right direction or really off it 🙂 ?
@Trev: great idea. I’m dying to read your piece. I also have my uninformed ideas on the injuries but I’ll keep mum until the right post comes.
@Snir: good point. It would be interesting to confirm if there’s a correlation between injuries and possession.
Do you know for sure that Barca gets more injuries? I look from time to time to some Barca blog `Holic linked once and they don’t seem to complain too much about injuries.
Also this season we’ve been at the top of the injury table from beginning (tied with Everton) to end (see http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php).
Physio room have injury analysis for a few seasons (unfortunately not after 06/07) and we’ve always been in the top third but it was never as bad as last season, it seems.
@Matt
I know for a fact Barca has a lot of injuries cause here in Israel we get live coverage of every league in the world almost so obviously when I have nothing to do I watch Barca and not some boring talkshow 🙂
There was a time that all of their 4 defenders were injured simultaneously.
Almost every player in their squad was injured during the course of the season and missed some matches.
I actually think that this year we didn’t win the championship (as opposed to other years) because of the positions we were injured in.
We had an injury to RVP and Nic simultaneously so we had to play AA up front Vs. Chelsea (both times) and Man Utd.
We had to play without Cesc at Old Trafford.
We had to play without our 2 starting center halves and our playmaker for the last month.
So basically it’s not quantity but quality (even though it was quantity this year), I don’t care we have 20398309 injuries next year as long as it’s not to key members of our squad or at least we have enough depth.
For instance instead of playing AA or Eduardo up front Vs. Chelsea we can play Chamakh if RVP gets injured.
People come down on this team for the way we played against Chelsea and Utd but people tend to forget we had ton of possession and both teams narrowed the field forcing us to go to the flanks and cross but we didn’t have Bendtner we had the 5’4 AA!!!
Let’s see them when we’re in full strength.
We are the best team in the EPL, and we’ll prove it this year (unless Almunia stays and decides to replicate his Birmingham performance).
Anyone else manage to catch Wenger at the Ingurland post match do? He was looking pretty sharp mingling with the crowd. The royal kids were there and seemed really into what Wenger was saying.
Thanks Trev,
I will try and weave something into a post tonight.
Fear not long suffering fans of English football, there is a bigger joke in the WC this time around – the French.
What an utter disgrace to football!
@Sajit: the good thing for us in that that mess is how it shows it’s about time to let go of Gallas who: 1) is a disrupting force 2) is on the wane.
From what it seems we finally agreed with Lorient for Koscielny.
Coquelin would go there on loan for a season and we’ll have a link up between the two clubs having players going back and forth like we had with Salamanca.
Now that we have a new center half, can anyone say how is he (from people that have either seen him or are from France and know him or how high he’s rated around France)?
Excuse me but I had to put this post up which I found by a poster on Untold Arsenal.
I have always had the deepest conviction that ManIOU’s success under Ferguson has been built on a steroid regime. The vein popping anger and unbelievable hyped up condition of their players down the years is glaring evidence to anyone with knowledge of steroid use symptoms. As is: Ronaldo’s massive adam’s apple, Rooneys chin and demeanour etc etc., Jaap Stam testing positive soon after joining Lazio etc etc
I now gather from the local Portuguese community here that it is common knowledge that Nani was sent home from the Portuguese world cup squad because he was so loaded with steroids that they could not risk it being detected. So who would have known to check this? mmm Carlos Queiroz of course and he would know wouldnt he?
In my view it would make an extremely interesting investigation / article for some publication with the guts to run the story.
What is your take on steroid / drug abuse in the EPL?
@Snir: He was rated among the best defenders in the french league but honestly how he will adapt is unknown. Another Vermy/Sagna type or another Cygan? Time will tell. It’s also possible he had been hired as number 3 CB.
@Marbellaron: UEFA anti-doping tests are unavoidable in the CL. Italian teams were caught 10+ years ago for creatinin, hard to believe a product as easily detected as steroids could be administered for years undetected. Until we see the proof it’s just slander. Actually more than that it’s a vicious rumour at this stage for Nani, unless both the portuguese federation and anti-doping agency are involced in the cover up: http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/world_cup/845143/NANI-AT-CENTRE-OF-DRUG-ALLEGATIONS.html
Jaap Stam? He was caught.
Rooney’s demeanour? He’s a saint compared to Keane the thug and Cantona the karateka.
Accusing these people without the shadow of a proof, purely on uninformed speculations is despicable. Now if there was some proof it would be an entirely different story but there’s nada so far.
Iniesta is injured but Cesc is still on the bench:
1) Del Bosque is myopic, how can Busquets and Navas be selected ahead of Cesc?
2) Del Bosque is acting at Barca’s request to make sure Cesc’s price does not skyrocket.
If Cesc doesn’t get a clue after that…
Well, the debate I started last week (but no one seemed to follow) is proving itself.
I was saying that maybe the top managers are not good managers at all, they just get the privilege to coach awesome players.
After seeing Pep and Del Bosque not adjust to what happened to their respective teams against Inter and Switzerland I was stunned.
How on earth did Navas get a place in the starting 11? based on what???? His performance from the Switzerland game? He was awful, if Del Bosque thought that Navas had a good game that day then his football knowledge in horrible. He did have a lot of touches but his football brain didn’t proccess shit cause if it would have he would have tried 1-2 passes and not crosses.
I’m stunned by his selection.
At the same time if that selection cannot win against Honduras they don’t deserve to go any further…
Yeah, that’s right but still the lack of adjustments and obvious ones are shocking.
@uncle Mike
That’s right right – all of them!!
especially the ones on steriods!!
Matt: in regards to the use of steroids, there are a few very suspicous cases in the Premier League. There are a few players who I can almost guarantee you that they have been using anabolic steroids at some point in their career, though since of course I can’t prove anything I won’t mention any names.
And no, all steroids are most definitely not easily detected. Just look at the BALCO scandal in the athletics world, those drugs were anabolic steroids that went undetected for years and iirc they were never found out until someone blew the whistle and tipped off the authorites. And I don’t believe for a second that BALCO was any more than the tip of the ice berg.
Visionary,
While Theo may never join Mensa international, his injuries have no doubt played a major part in his performances. I expect him to surprise more than a few this coming season. Let’s hear from you after that.
Now I’m smiling.
