The Next Generation Make Another Quarter-Final
Oct 25th, 2011 by 'holic
This season’s Carling Cup is turning into a proper old-school experience for those without tickets to the match. I opted for the Arsenal Player commentary ahead of the BBC option mainly because Adrian Clarke was working alongside Dan Roebuck. As a pundit he is rightly earning a growing reputation.
Against Shrewsbury I decided to turn away from the commentary at half-time and await the ‘as-live’ option on Arsenal Player. I doubted their ability to provide a full transmission at ten then, but they were spot on for both that game and this one. Credit where it is due, the quality of my stream was excellent. This time around though I stayed with the commentary throughout, unsure at the break of what may happen.
I take pleasure from all sorts of things where Arsenal are involved. Regulars know that starts with the social side of supporting a wonderful institution with a very broad base of supporters. On match days where I am in attendance I have a drink with friends before and after games. For this game I spent my evening not only listening to what was going on, but sharing drinks with ‘holics who popped in to comment.
I took pleasure from hearing of the first steps taken by young Nicos Yennaris, of hearing the praise for Andrey Arshavin in the ‘number ten’ role some had suggested he should be tried in earlier in the season. I was cheered by hearing the description of Thomas Vermaelen’s welcome return, and of the lively showing by Ju Young Park. The viewing later confirmed all of these things. It also confirmed that a couple of much-maligned players had also played their part. Well played Fabianski and Squillaci.
Most pleasure however was reserved for the moment eight minutes from time when Messrs Roebuck and Clarke reminded me of the score, and I remembered filling in my punt on 2-1 to the Arsenal. Well actually it was twelve minutes after that when the final whistle was finally blown. The first successful ‘holic pound of the season did not make up for the losses at 7/1, but as I did have a bit more than a pound on it I was happy enough.
There was criticism for some of the youngsters, both on audio and video commentary tonight, and it may have been justified to a degree, but I remain to be convinced of the value of digging out the lads in Carling Cup contests. This is where they learn by their mistakes, and more often than not those mistakes have not been terminal to our chances of progress. Frimpong, Coquelin, and Oxlade-Chamberlain will all have great days in Arsenal shirts, and part of the reason for that will be they are better prepared after their experience tonight.
What must surely cheer Arsene Wenger though is the performance of players who will be crucial to him in the big games to come. So often we come away from Carling Cup games singing the praises of the youth. Tonight Arsene will have been given much to think about by some of his senior players. Vermaelen, Arshavin, and Park were the difference between the sides. Arshavin scored a beauty, and set up Park for the one he finished, although the Korean could have had a hat-trick before then on a luckier day. Vermaelen was withdrawn five minutes from the end, hopefully as a precaution.
How many of the three would you play at Stamford Bridge at the weekend?

yes!!!!
Now to read the post π
“How many of the three would you play at Stamford Bridge at the weekend?”
None of them, to be honest.
first?
beat you clive?
Bravo neighbour
Just so you don’t think you are being miserable Ricey, I suspect we might be close to agreement. Let me put it this way. I would not choose this weekend to break up Mertesacker and Koscielny.
heard vermaelen has picked up a calf problem and he’s ruled out for the encounter with the chavs
Park must surely be van Persie’s deputy now. He looked composed, intelligent and confident. And what a finish!
Some good performances tonight.
Yennaris had a very good debut and looks a decent bet while our other RBs are out. Looks decent full stop, when you consider that was a Premier League side we were playing against – albeit not the most dangerous one.
Love Bennygoon’s work rate – absolutely non-stop. He’s one I would play against Chavski but, of course, he can’t.
Park looked a very bright player too – and a TH14 finish for the goal.
Vermaelen was his usual self, but you are probably right ‘Holic – if he has some reaction in his calves, especially – that this weekend may not be the best time to break a good understanding between Kos and Per.
After one Bolton attack, Myaichi ran the length of the pitch so fast that my 20Mb broadband just couldn’t keep up with him, and he finished up with pixelated feet !
It’s all beginning to feel good again π
Park scored in the very same way we so often seen Henry score. How about a forward line with Van Persie on the right Walcott centre Park on the left with Arshaven behind them.
That way Van Persie is given more time to use his skill, Walcott to use his speed.
And one more time, just for the sake of it – it’s great to know that Tabs is ok.
Cheers fella π
Mert and Kos have a strong partnership right now (wouldn’t want to break them up with TV still coming back to fitness). Arshavin will probably start (lazy as he may be, if he keeps popping up with goals and assists, it’s hard to complain too much). Park may come on as a sub if needed.
Another win. Nice to see the young lads gain some experience. The HT rolls forward.
PS: It was a quite lovely not listening to the whiners on Sky and ITV.
s j little –
sorry, can’t agree. For me RvP is a 9 or a 10. He is too good to play out wide. He has to be terrorising the centre of the opposition defence.
Argh, stuck in the last drinks. I blame the liquid dinner…
I wouldn’t start any of them, because we have a nice partnership developing in Nutsack and Kos, and against the Chavs we surely need something of a talismanic goal machine, and our Captain Vantastic is that man.
Did I ever mention I love him? Oh…
π
Cole will need the worry of theo on saturday, Kos should take care of torres as he seems to like marking the close controllers and RVP a cert….hopefully. Midfield is where the questions are I would think but cant see past same trio as stoke. Great read as usual holic and on the button so soon after the delayed stream..
Trev- I agree. Under no circumstance would I remove RVP from the centre of the pitch with his current form. The only change I would accept would be a real number 10 role for him if we reverted to 4-4-2. I haven’t seen the match yet (misunderstood as live, thought it was on demand, alas), but if he could play as the out and out striker that would be great. RVP would get those assists he craves if he had someone clinical ahead of him.
Happy for Yennaris as well. Even if he doesn’t get another match in the first time this year (I’m sure he will), it will do his confidence a world of good.
Seems that all five of the late signings are working out. I’d still preferred we’d sign Jose Enrique, but maybe Santos will eventually prove me wrong.
I think you have mentioned it before, Snowy π
Cats, plural? Why am I not surprised?
Good man, as TS would say…
Cheers Trev .
Good win tonight . All beginning to look a little rosier . Very impressed with the hour I saw of Park .
Fancy us to get something at Chelsea .
One of the great things about tonight was seeing so many young future gooners there. The family behind me had brought 6 kids. I hope we are drawn at home in the next round for the benefit of the kids, both on the pitch and in the stand. I thought Ignasi was fantastic at left back tonight.
The thing I love about home Beer Cup matches is that they are the one opportunity I get to take both of the kids. So with eager anticipation we all pitch up at The Grove. All fed and watered we take our seats for the first time ever in the upper tier. Quite a decent view up there isn’t it? I am treated to Neanderthal man and Neanderthal son sat behind me. I accept that these games attract many a tourist but you know you have problems when fat bloke and fat kid with one of those massive comedy hands is sat behind you. On the same front how can people actually arrive 30 minutes late? Frightening.
The team is unveiled. The shirt numbers mean that the list bears more of a resemblance to a Chinese take away menu than a starting 11. That is reason enough to explain a disjointed performance. It is hard to really read too much into any performance when there is a bunch of players that will have never played together before. Regardless of the result it is never really going to be anything other than disjointed.
As a result we were not at out best. What the game lacked in any real fluency it made up with in endeavour. It was awesome to see Tommy V back. How we have missed him. His removal five minutes at the end was due to a calf problem. I just hope it is not serious. I know it is hindsight but did he really need to play 85 minutes?
AA continues to be the most frustrating player in world history. A man blessed with so much talent should be one of the world greats. Only Andre can answer why he has not reached those heights. It was nice to actually see Park play. He would certainly get my vote ahead of Chamack at the moment. The CoqPong midfield combination showed promise but did not really spark. Same with the Ox. I agree entirely holic that his day will come. Miyaichi also looked bright when he came on.
Back to the crowd and fat bloke and off spring are in full swing. Dad bellows out comments he would have read in the papers. These are echoed by fat blokes son with the comedy hand. The only difference is that they are two octaves higher. You can not help but laugh at someone who continually bellows at the manager and in doing so continues to pronounce his name using the W as a W. The continued comments about AA were laughable. If I had a pound for every time I heard “get him off Wenger. He’s rubbish Wenger” then it would put the holic pound to shame. I could think of a better use of the letter W. Comedy hand was conspicuous by its absence as AA put us level and then sat up the winner. He got the Steve T knowing look. The look that just says “twat.” I hope he has learned his lesson.
A good win and good to see certain players get an airing. One thing the game has confirmed is that we have real problems if Shezza or RVP get injured. We have no reliable back up for either.
Next stop? The bus stop. Saturday will be a real test as I said after Stoke. Get 3 points there are we can confirm that not only have we reached the corner but that the AW sat nav has again made the correct call.
Here’s to a home tie and another family outing.
Keep the faith.
Agree with that MLC.
Good to see the crowd shots and so many youngsters in.
I thought both full-backs were the pick of the lads tonight, to be fair.
Let’s not make too much of who was better than who on the evidence of ninety minutes. Long hours need to be put in…
Gloom don’t live here any more, ‘h π
“I would not choose this weekend to break up Mertesacker and Koscielny.”
Neither would I. It wouldn’t matter who the opposition is though, I don’t see the point in breaking up a partnership that, although far from fantastic, is showing signs of gelling.
Arshavin is as likely to be toilet as he is to be decent, so he wouldn’t get picked for me and Park… well a dreadful debut didn’t make him the worst player we’ve ever had and a decent second game doesn’t make him ready for Chelsea IMO. A steady start to his career would be nice to see, so he can go on the bench, assuming RvP is fit.
Holic, I’d like to see Park start, AA can come on in the second half. TV out with thigh injury (rotten luck for this poor lad).
‘Holic @ 17 – heh π
tabs @ 18 – great to see you back. I fancy us to get something at Chelsea too. But it’s the Chavs so it may just be some horrible disease or something…
Perhaps the good Doctors on this site can enlighten us as to what pathological lurgies can be caught at “a bus stop in Fulham”?
And maybe Nurse Wolfgang could prepare some vaccinations for those of us who will be visiting on Saturday… (sadly my treasured biosuit combusted at the Sh*thole whilst waiting for a beverage before the game)
π
Ricey @ 22 At times AA (and Gervinho) appear ‘Messi-esque’ near goal. Their dribbling skills leave me breathless, flashes of absolute brilliance. That being said, I’m glad Drogba has to sit this one out. Chelsea will be hungry to redeem themselves and will take their frustrations out on us, no doubt. El Nino starting? Thought he had one more game to sit out…
Just seen on the twitter page of arsenal.com,that tv5 only went off for cramp.
Verm at the bridge…. fingers crossed, Bad transport meant I missed the game. Still had a few peronis, Burger and chips locally. Followed the match via twitter (where I bought the tickets, too late for Arsenal.com). I see a star coming back. He may have to give his shorts back to Sol.
Steve T @ 20 – epic post.
I hope the NM and his NS particularly enjoyed the home support’s earnest requests for The Boss to “Give us a wave” and the subsequent renditions of “There’s only Arsene Wenger” π
For anyone who is concerned and may be anxious about TV5, he has tweeted:
“Btw, i had a small cramp at the end. Nothing serious. Just went out as a precaution”
So that’s ok then. He should be back by March, April something like that then π
Didn’t see the game in dead of night here. Enjoyed your report and AW’s press review.
Steve, I commend your cool. I cannot restrain myself and limit my disdain to stern looks when I’m confronted by BBB in “the flesh”. A very clear perspective on their viewpoint is my usual, chin out, approach. Neither my chin nor nose has yet been punched. I’m sure you were setting your usual excellent example for the kids. I always enjoy your roving reports from the stadium and am pleased that you continue to take the time.
29 Snowy, you devil!
Snowy @ #24
Good call re: The Biosuits for the BS@F.
The ones we used at The Sh*thole are knacked and we need something more suitable for a somewhat different kind of defensive job.
I’ll ask Edwin if he’s working on something that’s more lightweight, protects ones ears from racist abuse from the field of play, tough enough to withstand a ‘Fat Frank’ jumping on it plus it’ll need to be oil and Tarquin proof. That should be just the (bus) ticket.
What say you?
Snowy. I think they heard them loud and clear. However I feel that the blinkers worn will have filtered out the positives, and the fact that both appeared to have forgotten the family brain cell meant that neither really had a clue. I guess what really made me laugh was that when the 4th official’s board went up showing 4 mins of added time we were all treated to 4 minutes of “blow the whistle ref” in various keys. I could not work out if it was a poor man’s version of the Krankies or a reincarnation of the father/son characters played by Dick Emery.
Tabs. Nice to see you back at the bar.
Steve T @ #20: Possibly your best match report to date. Loved the humour. π
‘Holic: Yours wan’t bad either π
Trev @ #9: (Dr.) Feelgood factor is definitely back on the agenda for us Gooners. When we beat those Chavs we’ll only be 3 points behind them.
We’ll be Top 4 by Xmas, if we can keep this run going. Sorry if that’s a bit bleedin’ obvious.
Steve T @ #33
Ooh you are awful…. π
@Steve T #20
Bravissimo Steve!
I would have loved to have been there and really could have afforded the tix but the 10,000 mile round trip fair would have killed the old budget. I am truly jealous but having begun my career as a gooner listening to short-wave re-transmissions today radio experience was killer-Diller (and I do mean Phyliss).
Commie-dog’s goal and assist was just the tonic and Park’s bender the Boodles.
Thinking of which, Barkeep make mine a double (in three minutes)!
The beating of the Chavsters will not be an easy thing but we may just have it within us.
Alas, what will become of poor old Chamahk?
Snowy #29 thanks for the TV5 re-tweet that eases my tiny mind.
BTM. It was a clear case of care in the community going all wrong. It’s fair to say that their attendance meant for the few hours they were away from home, that there was a village somewhere in this green and pleasant land that was deprived of its idiot.
It did not take long for either of my two to realise what was behind us.
Look forward to your next trip to Blighty and finally getting the chance to share a glass or 12.
TS @ 32 – oil and Tarquin proof, lightweight, anti-racist, anti-FatFrank-gravity biosuits – definitely! Game on!
Now is there any money in the HT R&D budget to knock up a few James Bond-style gadgets to offer additional protection, considering the Chav’s owner and his ‘interesting’ background….
Not sure we absolutely need it, but if the boffins could fashion up a discreet handheld accessory capable of ripping off John Terry’s leg and beating him half to death with it, I’d be in for one π
Steve T @ 33 – ugh – what a truly revolting pair they sound. Very impressed you kept good humour in the face of such adversity. You are a legend.
LCG @ 36 – glad your mind is eased. When he comes back he’ll be like a new signing. Again π
You raise some very good points Snowy.
The R&D budget is currently in good shape due to extra revenues from sustained cup runs.
A JT Leg Remover & Batterer would also interest Carlos K. It could be adapted to suit any Chav player or bolshoi (sorry) fan who may wish to approach The Travelling Faithful.
If you send a sizeable cheque payable to DLL R&D with a note to state that you are over 21 and that you understand that you may never see your money again then I’m guessing Edwin will have something ready for the weekend.
Suits you sir π
#20 Steve T
Your comment is and was excellent, a pint for you and 2 lemonades for the kids (before 6pm of course). π
I was sitting near the bolton fans, parallel to them in the clock end and some of the comments from them were vile, when frimpong went down, chants of ‘stay down and die’ went up from them, a disgrace especially as kids were about in the away section.
You’re a model for the correct behaviour for our fans and theirs, and I applaud you.
Lord, Are we really ready for the all the DRAMA that is Chelsea. John Terry does indeed look like he is headed for a nuclear meltdown at any moment. Then there is Ashley Cole…enough said. David Luis can’t control any of his limbs, and if I ever come across him, that lad is getting a haircut. This lot will test not only our technical skills, but our patience, as well.
arshavin can be the no.10 but not with rvp in front of him.
rvp is too immobile for arshavin. and rvp can’t do much with arshavin.
arshavin needs runners to play into.
i prefer that we set up to play for rvp over arshavin, but when rvp is unavailable wenger should consider setting the team up around arshavin. behind park and with gervinho and walcott either side maybe.
4th is now good enough. It used to be the least of AFC’s ambitions but now it is the summit. Whilst the prices continue to rise, the PTA continues to bulge, we quietly accept this, indeed will hail Wenger anew if he gets 4th this season. Brilliant marketing, it must be said. Expectations have been managed down expertly.
Re: leftcoast, “having begun my career as a gooner listening to short-wave re-transmissions” you say? Well, you are not the only one. I do recall nearly 40 years ago listening to the scores being announced on the short wave by a jaunty English voice, in such fashion:
Nottingham Forest 2, Sunderland nil.
Liverpool 2, Everton nil.
Derby County 1, Arsenal 2.
And so on and so forth. Not to mention “This is London.”
The radio is a grand old medium and long may it wave.
Jekyll @ 44 Why so cynical? We have survived the departure of Ces and Sammy, overcome a myriad of injuries, and have won how many games in a row now…what’s not to cheer about? Not to mention how well our youngsters are doing. I’m extremely proud of our lads and Arsene’s vision.
‘holic, Many thanks for the match report. We seem to have used this match well to get experience for squad members whose contributions we will need even more crucially in important upcoming games. With Park’s goal it should be noted that we have had significant contributions now from all five signings made on transfer deadline day, and it will be exciting to see how much more we can get from him and the others.
Jekyll,give us a smile!
Considering where we were,or where everyone thought we were,a month back, you should be revelling in our form.
TV5 back is huge.
Jack coming back will be just as huge.
One or two signings in January, and we can compete with anyone in the League.
Isn’t it just lovely to NOT be reading everyone asking the club to sack Wenger?
Agreed, its still early in the season, but it was even earlier in the season when everyone had written us off!
I was 100% confident the squad would continue to improve as the season wore on,and am enjoying the ride.
sj little @ 10: has walcott got the touch, or the finishing to play down the middle? and would arshavin be the man to play the early through balls for him to run on to?
Ricey @ 22: the bargain with Arshavin is a few moments that win games for ineffectuality most of the rest of the time. Take it or leave it.
Many @Various: If the Mertesacker/Koscielny partnership is to be broken up, which would go to make room for TV5?
bt8b @ 45: that would have been james alexander gordon and the latecomer’s reading of the classified results on Sports Report. Classic wireless.
Back four permutations at this point in time could see either
Djourou-Mertesacker-Koscielny-Vermaelen
or
Koscielny-Mertesacker-Vermaelen-Santos
That is, if Vermaelen must be accomodated…gosh, what is with these ‘new signings’ making selections so hard π
Jekyll @ 44 – its called walking, prior to running.
As in, thinking before posting.
Happy pills are available on request from Professor Storey.
I would go with the first combination Cannons, even though it is risky with Djourou at right back
Didn’t get to see the game yesterday, but saw the goals. What a cracking finish by Park!
Great report Steve T and very good to have Tabs back π
53 drinks late at night?
How’s the hangover folks?
‘Sor’i’ou’ Ouenger’, yeah, I know the type, Steve T π
Drinks for all, trebles for tabs.
Ninth consecutive season in the 1/4s? OK, there’s only 2 games to get there, but this is proof that Ouenger is a disgrace and should be fined for fielding understrength teams in the competition, right?
“Arsenal scored two goals from their two shots on target. They never had another shot on target.”
Was Owen Coyle on some good drugs last night? I’ve heard of other shots being saved by their ‘keeper, and in fact, the stats at the bottom of the page
( http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/15346293.stm ) say we had 5 shots on targets
Steve T – I’m imagining that one of your looks gives a “Paddington stare” a run for its money?
Cannons – defensive option number 2, please
Jekyll – there’s a time and a place. 5 wins on the trot is not the time, and the HT after a beer cup win definitely isn’t the place. Treat yourself to one of those happy pills that Zico mentioned and enjoy the moment.
Tabs and zico return to the bar on the same night accompanied by BtM – welcome back lads, you have been missed! Walk up to the bar and order yourselves a drink, you know whose tab to put it on!
Steve T, loved your account of the game!
Seven wins in our last eight games. Let’s go to the bus stop and make it eight out of nine – I really see no reason why we shouldn’t be able to do that. Chelsea are a decent side alright, but far from the force of a few years ago and there will of course also be no Drogba to torment us.
Jekyll, really?
Ollie, Coyle is clearly showing signs of panic. Don’t think he’ll last much longer if they don’t improve.
And while I have only seen the highlights from yesterday, I have to say I never have and still can not see the supposed greatness in Cahill. He’s an alright player but the only thing he is really good at is headers and he would, at best, be our fourth-choice central defender now that Vermaelen seems to be back. No, not worth anywhere near the Β£18m or whatever it was that Bolton wanted for him.
Ok, this thing called “work” is calling for my attention now…
ReeeeSulT!
URedS!
A win against Chelsea. For that I will walk backward form Lagos to London! C’mon you Gunners!
psed – quad still on
missed game altogether but heard AA got a home start in the god role. Hope that’s so, as imho that’s where he’s best placed to breakdown the oppo
Up The Arse!
Heh, funny thing.
Given the lack of stress regarding tickets availability (unfortunately it also mean no Tx, so no chance of ever getting block 32 again π ), I booked my Stoke ticket without bothering getting in on the act at the right time, and got myself a nice row 3 in the upper tier North Bank, thought it’d be rude not to.
Well today, I was in even less of a rush to book for Fulham, but thought I’d have a gander around to see what’s still available at lunch time.
And….I saw the exact same seat available. So I’m taking it. It’s the first time I knowingly book a seat I know I have sat in already. Maybe I’ll sit there often now when I only book a single ticket π
@snowy #39
Unfortunately your dark wit contained more than a seed of truth as TV5 is having his”cramp” asessed.
I wonder how long this will take and if we will indeed need a new signing.
Keeping my fingers cramped,I mean crossed.
lcg @ #64:

Looking good…
Ollie @ various:
Oenger Aaaht! π
Lars @ #59
Good point re: Coyle. I don’t mind him so much apart from when he refers to himself in the third-person singular. He should have sold us Cahill when he had the opportunity and a reasonable, market price. Can’t see us buying him now unless one of our first team CBs suffers a breakdown, Dennis forbid.
Ollie – Cheers for the treble … hic … have one yourself while you’re at it , it would appear Lars is still paying , some things never change eh π
Steve T @20 – Fantastic match report , really enjoyed reading it . A ” comedy hand ” behind you eh ! Some people . Where did they think they were going ? The Circus ? Surely even the most obtuse f*ckwits realise the circus is 3 miles down the road in Riot City . Clowns , primates , Bearded women , and the first living brain donor, Clive Allen , it’s all there . I guess it would only have been a true comedy hand if you’d started beating the dullards around the head with it . I salute your restraint .
Haven’t even begun to work my way through the backlog of drinks , but would just like to say thanks again for your kind words , you know who you all are , and look forward to ” getting ’em in ” in The Tollie in the not too distant future .
Now who’s this nottabs chappie ? π Clearly not me with all the centuries he notched . And I see Nurse Wolfie has a rival in the medical ward , Nurse Abb , hello .
Noticed a while back that Holic wished Charlie George and Tony Adams many Happy Returns . How apt they share the same birthday . Realise I’m about 3 weeks late , but a story for you .
During my childhood , the Old Man had a fairly distant relation , who always seemed to conjure up tickets for the most impossible things . One day in about ’74 , he telephoned to say he had tickets for Arsenal v Leicester for me and my Dad and that we should meet him at the main entrance in Avenell Road .
On arriving , we were escorted through the Marble Halls , down to the tunnel area and through the tunnel to the seats that were immediately behind the dug-outs . You can all imagine my uncontrollable excitement as a wide-eyed 8 or 9 year old kid as we walked down the tunnel . As we were taken to our seats , who should be sitting directly behind us , but the Arsenal players who hadn’t made the 12 that day – Sammy Nelson , Eddie Kelly and of course Charlie George . To say that my junior Speedoes were more than a little moist at this point would be an understatement .
I don’t remember much of the game at all . The Double side had lost much of its lustre by this stage and I think it was a dull 0-0 . The memory that lingers though was that Charlie kept up a stream of invective throughout the game . Firstly this was aimed at the Leicester right-back ( Denis Rofe ? ) , and any other Leicester player that came within shouting distance of him . Charlie kept this up despite being warned a couple of times by an old Arsenal Official in all the regalia to mind his language , which served only to encourage Charlie to ever- more colourful insults .
The final straw came with about 10 mins to go . Arsenal had just missed one of the very few chances they had created , and Charlie bellowed out to Bertie Mee , ” Oi Mee , I should be out there , you f*cking blind c*nt ! ” . 2 minutes later , Charlie was told in no uncertain terms by Bobby Campbell , the sergeant major trainer at the time , to vacate his seat and he had to leave , much to the amusement of Kelly and Nelson . And off he went signing autographs and laughing .
I’m not sure how many more games Charlie played for The Arsenal after this , but it was clear his relationship with Mee had completely broken down , so I’m guessing not many .
My Father , after extracting a promise from me that I would not repeat Charlie’s language to my mother , found the whole thing highly amusing and spent the rest of the game chatting with Kelly and Nelson about the many scrapes Charlie got himself in .
A belated Happy Birthday Charlie , King of Highbury .
Zico @ 52 – maybe a suppository version of the happy pill for Jerkyll? Perhaps the hedgehog replica version that they deploy for less happy travelers up there in the Kingdom?
What a sad chap he is.
Hey Tabs it is great to see you back, with your reliable charm and wit. π
Nurse abb? Is that her blood type???
Lars @ 59: with you on Cahill. Way overpriced at Β£18m, and probably at Β£8m come to that. Can’t believe some top Italian club is looking at him.
And never understood why we we supposedly looking in the summer at him and Samba, two players at the heart of defenses even leaker than ours.
Zico and BtM, likewise it is great to be reading your witty drinks again. Now I would like to dedicate one to all the HT regulars, and perhaps even Jekyll could benefit from this one. π
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owrbz2pIyiI&feature=fvst
tabs @ #67 – Grrreat story about Charlie G, you have been missed! I do remember being a little devastated when he signed for Derby County. The departure of our captain to QPR was even harder to swallow.
zico @ #52 – A strange time for supporters to be needing happy pills when we’ve just won 7 in 8, we’re in the Beer Cup QFs and 7th in the league and it’s only October. Am I to assume a prior Secure Unit history? π
This line taken from our favourite ‘Arsenal’ website:
“….The victory train moves onβ¦ next stop, Chelsea…” -> Priceless!
Hello 8ball , a drink Sir for the always reliable link . Cant vouch for Nurse Abb’s blood type but understand Nurse Wolfie will wish to conduct a thorough examination – it’s a requirement of working in the Infirmary , don’t you know π
As for Jekyll @44 , words fail me . Luckily , Robert Louis Stevenson didn’t suffer from the same problem ;-
‘O God!’ I screamed, and ‘O God!’ again and again; for there before my eyes–pale and shaken, and half fainting, and groping before him with his hands, like a man restored from death–there stood Jekyll!”
– Robert Louis Stevenson, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Chapter 9
I can only suggest a pair of tight-fitting Speedoes and a pair of medium-sized Satsumas to disguise any personal inadequacies that the man must be suffering from . π
Hi TS , didn’t see you there , too early for a couple of lagers ?
TaBS @74 – heh! Your usual Guinness for a little masterpiece awaits!
Always ready for a drink with you young man, cheers! π
Next round on me. Feelgood factor returning fast to the HoF!
Looking forward to a return to the BS@F on Saturday. Should be a good game, definitley winnable!
Splendid , Ill get em in TS , and one for you back Dr C . Now whats all this about Nurse wolfie being supplanted by a far more glamorous and good-looking Sister in the Infirmary ? π
TS – yep , remember being pretty sad when Charlie’s estrangement reached its denoument . Could have been far worse , however , he came within a cats whisker of joining the Spuds . I think Derby only stepped in at the last minute after everything had been agreed with the lot down the road .
tabs, Nurse abb was drafted into The Quackery last week after a thorough interviewing from the good Drs T & C. They were short-handed and she divulged her professional credentials in the bar in a moment of madness. She was drafted in to help and work alongside Nurse Wolfie. Dr. T has not been the same since π
Supplanted? No no…. we need Wolfie’s paddling skills and ability to scare patients.
Nurse Abb is far better looking – she is, of course, female. Medical checks were carried out..
More Glamorous? Than Wolfie? Come come….
Ooh Doctor , Flattery will get you everywhere … π
May I suggest you also sort yourself out with a Twitter account? So much easier that these damned buzzers when we need you for a kerfuffle in The Quackery.
Right, run along now and make me a cup of tea, there’s a good girl… a pleasure to have you back.
Well – Arshavin seems to be showing some of the form we all know he’s capable of……
And the Percielny axis at the back is looking more and more solid….
Then there’s the continuing acrobatics of Chesney between “the poles”…
As well as the return of the newly signed Verminator….
Not to mention the incomparable goal scoring feats of RVP…
The omnipresence of one Alexander Song…
And isn’t Gervinho beginning to show some real talent…!
Let alone the bubbling emergence on the periphery of Oxo, Ryo, Jenks, Park and the Coq
7th in the league…playing below our best… yet winning… improving….
Yes, yes – and TABs is back too……!!!!!
Is that Louis Armstrong in the backround singing “I see tree’s of green..”..?
Great result last night, still haven’t seen much of the game, bar the goals, but I got the general gist of it on the radio broadcast. However we look at it, I can only see this as a positive win, a mix and match team of fringers and youth who fought back from a goal down to proceed to the next round, how could we possibly ask for more?
Some great contributions from our on the spot reporters and of course the usual suspects and returning drinkers.
Sorry Mr Jeckyl, but your on a Hydeing to nothing with that kind of attitude around here.
A pitcher of BM and a tray of glasses please barman.
Cheers H2H, another Mr.Pun-tastic post π
Joe, there is much to keep us smiling at the moment and long may it continue.
Dr.C @ #82
Nurse wolfie on Twitter? Dangerous!
Excellent suggestion π
tabs is back and suddenly there’s a flurry of drinks.
Coincidence?
Great work, more like.
Still, the Fulham ticket mentioned above may not be used by me, depending on possible trip to India…we’ll see.
tabs @ 67 – excellent stuff.
BtM @ 68 – an interesting idea – I know a few who would gladly administer said medicine too π
TS @ 73 – agreed supporters dont need Happy Pills – interstingly Jekyll only shows his hide (heh) to bitch and moan. So, a liberal dose is required – either by the “BtM Method” or otherwise.
Early start in the juicer come Saturday – just heard that our game is at 12:45, I assume on Sky?
Dr. z
Yes, an early start indeed. A beer breakfast beckons this coming match day.
I think H2H would approve π
PS: Still planning a trip to the HoF for the Everton game in December?
The BtM method is precisely the kind of thing we need Nurse Wolfie for.
He can administer the paddle at the same time in appropriate cases.
With my blessing.
its definite TS
Aproval to drink early not only granted but encouraged, TS. π
I love this place π
‘To say that my junior Speedoes were more than a little moist at this point would be an understatement .’
Tabs, you have just made my day seperately for the 3rd time.
Utter quality. π
Laddy Robbie captured on Come Dancing:

Just for laughs π
tabs are your lurking for the century?
In!!!!
Damn… a trifle premature!
Do I have a lame impersonator?
And does nobody dare post a 99 now?
Assist?
Well I’ll be self-served then….
…er… turned goal scorer. Weird.
DAMN YOU, TS!
Tabs @ 67 Hello, Hello! Nurse Wolfie and I have arranged physicals for all you lads ahead of the Chelsea event. Dr. C will lend his hand, where it is needed (eh,eh).
heh @ TS and nottabs
Time to leave work here.
And an excellent evening to you too nottabs.
abb, if its all the same to you I’d much prefer it if the nurse gave me a hand.
*grabs coat and leaves*
Tabs. Love the Charlie George story. I can almost hear him saying it. Awesome.
Nottabs….Just joining in the fun π The clue’s in the name…
Hah, loving it. The gang is all here again π
Dear TS. Don’t you worry, old chap.
The only thing I or Dr T will be handing you will be another pint / “medicinal” compound.
The nurses will be dealing with any physical necessities.
I remember the last time I actually touched a patient – 1995, it was. Damned strange experience. Much better to sit behind my big desk (who said “compensatory”??) and hand out chemicals willy nilly.
“…..and hand out chemicals willy nilly.”
Been negligent with the keys again, Professor?
There will be carnage if the Cracker Quacks get going again……quite like the sound of the Nurses mind…..
Dr T
cc Nurse Wolfie, Nurse ABB
Interestingly, neither Dr F nor TS have given any indication of preference as to which of our talented nurses “handles” them.
I must say that this does make the running of the Quackery much more simple.
As you know, one of my bug bears are the “patients’ rights” do-gooders. In light of Dr F and TS’s open mindedness, I propose we also take away any need for “consent” to treatment. It really will speed the whole place up.
Now I pop away from the bar briefly to put in the required shift at the office, and return to find puns galore, positively eye-watering innuendo, the regulars off playing ‘Doctors and Nurses’, the sacred ‘Doctor-Patient relationship’ being given the last rites, and pharmacological entertainment flying around the place like dodgy Stoke tackles on match day…
What a truly f*ckin’ awe-inspiring place this is π
Hi holic an holics, great that the team is finding it’s rhythm again,as someone said last night in the drinks keeps the doomers at bay, just my tuppence worth on arshavin he played against us for Russia a few weeks back and was on fire in his favoured position much like last night according to reports, couldn’t we change up a bit to get this out of him on a more regular basis?he seems to trive with a bit more responsibility cheers.
Dear No Soy Tabs.
I fear that Andy Goram is coming back. Trying to parade as Andrew Goram.
Or something.
Good evening and thanks to you too, True Storey.
And Goodnight all, as it is not in my habits to lurk so far away from any drinks not ending in 00.
Pero quien es?
Snowy , can I echo your words , a chap pops out the Bar for a few hours to deal with a few of life’s mundanities , and all hell breaks loose ! Awesome place with awesome people .
Dr Z , Joe , Ollie and Wind – thanks for the kind words .
H2H – Cheers for the BM , much appreciated .
Steve T – Glad you enjoyed the story . Had a bit of an anorak moment and just checked the dates . It was in December ’74 , and Charlie only played twice more for us . I have yet to hear a bigger reception for a former player than when Charlie came back to Highbury in Southampton colours in 79 .
Dr C and TS – I fear Twitter may be a step too far for our resident cross-dressing medical brow-soother π
So not only a nottabs , but also a no soy tabs π I’m pretty sure neither of them are me , but having nabbed 98 , 99 and 101 between them , now I’m not so sure ! Perhaps we are the Holy Trinity ? π
Abb @104 Hello , I’m sure Nurse Wolfie will be in touch to discuss rotas , uniforms , and various ” medical ” treatments for difficult patients .
It’s rather quiet here tonight.
Nightcap anyone?
How about a single malt Ollie ?
Perfect.
Cheers tabs!
Alright mates, listen up. The toughest part of the exam is the ‘Drogba Stare Down’. Since he is not playing, it seems he has some spare time on his hands and has offered his services. Highly unusual, but he is really like Sir Rodney Marsh, a bit of a clown. The deal is, you come to the bar, sit down and face down Drogba. For 30 seconds you must not flinch. Holic, your’re up first. Cheers!
Oh…did someone mention single malt?
*is suddenly roused from slumber*
Am sure we need several of those (at least) to celebrate your return tabs
π
Wow, Newcastle just scored two goals, one in the 93rd and one in the 96th minute of the game against Blackburn. Not to fond of them, but I must give them credit for their fighting spirit. It’s not for naught they are up there in the table this season methinks. Extra-time it is!
Speaking of – I know quite a few of the Chelsea-players playing today won’t start this weekend, but now they are going into extra-time as well, with another red (even if it’s just the reserve keeper) and a few players on yellows.
At the very least, Malouda and Anelka will both play 120 minutes today, and with Drogba already on a red that surly not help Chelsea’s attacking options this weekend!
Feel free to tuck in Snowy .
Off to The Bus stop this weekend ? Suggest you invest in new Bio-suit if so . Sorry to hear the last one self-combusted at SHL . TS and I shared your frustration in the drinks queue at the Sh*thole . The wait there for a non-alcoholic (only) drink there was almost as long as the wait to see a non-burnt out building on the T*ttenham High Road π
Bushmills and Laphroaig on the go tonight.
Drinking to an old friend on the day of his departure. Never met him, but Opus was a pal to thousands.
Cheers tabs – you’re a true gent π
I shall indeed be at the bus stop on Saturday. I hope that TS (and any other good ‘holic folk) shall also be available to offer reinforcement against the chav hordes.
‘holic I was also saddened to hear of the passing of Opus. I can’t say I knew him, but I do hope Blogs and his missus can take some small comfort at the thought that there are many members of the Arsenal family that are very sorry for their loss.
Had a cracking day out at the bus stop in Fulham last year, apart from the result, and the tube strike afterwards.
Recommend Bodeans for a pre-match plate of goodness.
http://www.bodeansbbq.com/ourbranches/branches.asp?location=fulham
Tabs, youβve been missed man. Thanks for the amazing story @ 67.
Do you think if King George did make the move across to SHL he would still be considered one of the greatest ever gunners?
Btw, I think youβll like the BTA masterpieces Iβve been working on. Iβve gotten over my fear of failure and redone number 1. Upped the costume design a bit. Got to put finishing touches on it sometime this weekβ¦
And finally, condolences go to the Arseblog family for their loss. 105 years is a pretty good run and well spent it would seem.
CoR, 105 years is indeed a pretty good run. π
My condolences as well. May he rest with cheese.
After looking at the teams still in the last 8 of the Carling Cup, I can’t help but feel a “random” draw coming that looks like this:
Man City v Chelsea
Liverpool v Man Utd
Arsenal v Crystal Palace
Blackburn v Cardiff
If this happens do I move to the front of the psychic committee class?
In other news, Crystal Palace’s entire trophy room got burgled last night. The police are looking for a man carrying a red and blue carpet.
Sounds like hope rather than expectations, CoR.
We’ve got one of the Mancs away, I bet.
A snapshot of Nurse Wolfie on her return to work. Please note rubber gloves back in place and Nurse ABB and helper standing by..
http://www.cineclubmunicipal.org.ar/contenidos/2011_09/images/092011_alphaville_rocky.jpg
Is Helper a Swedish name?
heh! π Best ask Lars…..
Nurse Helpa…. the latest addition to the Quackery. Like Arsenal, the HT are investing in their recuperation facilities. π
Hopefully with better results….
CoR – like the look of your draw (but not necessarily your draws…).
Can’t help thinking the beer cup is all of a sudden a proper serious trophy with those teams left in it. Bring on the next opponents, whoever they are!
Imagine turning over one of the filthy Mancs in the quarters…a lot of journalists would suddenly find their usually-jizz-soaked undercrackers inexplicably drying up, and their puckered lips would have no arses to kiss.
Cue the sound of multiple editorial implosions across the land as the press try to say something complimentary about the mighty Reds.
CoR: no, Helper is not a Swedish name π
zico @52 – brilliant π
Right, back to read the rest π
Tabs @67, 74 – back on top form π
Lars @59 – totally agree about Cahill. I have watched him a number of times – in disguise of course – and have never understood the clamour.
Owen Coyle rates him as one of the very best who could “play in any team”. That was, of course, at the beginning of the last transfer window, after which he found himself playing for, erm . . . Bolton π
Dr C
cc Nurse Wolfie, Probationary Nurse ABB
Firstly, I would like to express my reservations about Probationary Nurse ABB.
There seems to be a notion that she has supplanted Nurse Wolfie. Well, over my dead body, old chap, which in this Quackery is a distinct possibility.
At her interview, ABB was difficult, to say the least, when it came to her “uniform” inspection, and all but refused to allow me to approve her undergarments.
Quite the opposite to Nurse Wolfie, who ambles around most of the time in nothing else !
ABB then hastened rather dramatically to a diagnosis of “strained thigh” when Tom Vermaelen called in, hoping for a more cheery prognosis than the ’26 weeks out’ that the official medics had handed him.
Turns out, in the HT Quackery, that it was nothing more than a ‘little cramp’, “somewhere in his leg” that Nurse Wolfie ‘relieved’ immediately. π
ABB has much to prove in my book – and in my office π
As for “patient consent”, you have, as a trusted colleague, my full consent to do whatever you choose to which ever patients you like.
That should cover it π
May I suggest that we soon interview Nurse Wolfie with a view to promotion to Staff ?
Trev, he can play in any team – provided that team has a lot of injuries π
I haven’t contributed much these past few days, but have thoroughly enjoyed reading. The HT is well and truly on a roll right now!
Storey@66: I don’t have anything against Coyle either, he seems to be a reasonable chap. But he must be under quite a lot of pressure right bow.
Tabs, great story about Charlie George. And just think what the media would have made of a player calling his manager a cunt for the whole world to hear…
“the media today”, that should have read.
Right, no-one else here, and I have to be off for a while.
Before I leave, may I just say “Well done Tabs for stealing in at 200!”
Yes, I know it’s early but I suffer from premature congratulation π
Hey Lars, grab yourself a drink – I’ve left your wallet on the bar π
Jekyll @44 – Shut uppa your face! π
Lars 143 vs 142. Presumably ‘bow’ should have read ‘now’ too. Although if the bow comes with an arrow, it may add to the pressure he’s under.
Ollie, you are of course absolutely right! “Bow” show have been “now”…
Right, some quotes filtering in from the AGM meeting
Wenger: I do not know where we’ll finish this season, but we’re ready for a fight
Well, as long we fight, we will surprise a few people I think
Some great drinks above. Tabs, Dr T, Dr Z- cheers
Ollie, where in India?
From Twitter:
bbcsport_david David Ornstein
by arseblog
Breaking: Wenger tells me Arsenal have started talks with Van Persie over a new contract. Story across BBC outlets soon #bbcsportsday #afc
Harsha, the situation changes every day, so now i may not go before the end of the year.
Initially it was just in Mumbai. Now if it’s only for the second (field) phase, I don’t know, still suspects it’s south.
Hope you had a good Diwali yesterday π
Lars, I’m still kind of laughing at these journos whoring themselves on twitter.
Talks with RvP may have been ongoing for a while already, still journo speaks to Wenger at the AGM and it becomes ‘breaking news’.
I’m still really gobsmacked at the amount of self-gratification that goes on twitter sometimes.
I would certainly not give them a retweet (and I see too many people I follow giving them one already :P)
Actually, Ollie, talks have not been going on so this is actual news. They were going a little bit but were then put on hold about two months ago or something because Robin didn’t want to continue talking at the time.
Just figured out who Opus is. Condolences to Blogs on the passing of a great Basset hound. π
Shame on those who argued against the inclusion of pets on the Happy Train. Opus at least is an example of a pet who deserves to be included in the main carriage, not back in some separate carriage with the likes of C*sop and god knows who else.
Afternoon all,
Quite a backlog of drinks to catch-up on after my rather hasty exit yesterday evening.
A few mentions:
The good Doctors T &C @ various – Keep up the shoddy practice. This bar would be significantly diminsihed wthout your unique brand of quackery. I’ll remain open-minded and flexible in terms of your prognoses and recommended treatments.
The good nurses wolfie and abb – Ditto, within reason.
Snowy @ #127 – Reinforcement and backup is indeed on offer for The BS@F, good man! π
CoR @ #131 – I’d rather see the two Manc clubs drawn together so that one will be eliminated. However, I’m also kind of wanting to be drawn against Citeh, preferably @ home, because I think it will be a good game of football and I want to see how we measure up.
Lars @ #142 – Who will be the first Premieres League manager to lose his job this season? I’ll guess at Kean but Coyle is probably a candidate too although I have no idea what Notlob supporters or their BoD are thinking right now.
Drinks are on offer for all in the bar. Cheers ‘Holics.
Almost forgot…
‘Holic @ #128 – Thanks for the recommendation.
Lars. Still not convinced/impressed
I see the ‘article’ is now up on BBC:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/15479384.stm
Content ratings : 0 % the single quote would have been the same any time over the last few months/weeks/years. Doesn’t even mention opening contract talks anymore, just being confident of him signing him.
Not that different from talk about Nasri in June or July, even!
Just some whoretweeting.
I rest my case.
change the relevant bit to ‘Wenger being confident of him signing’.
Sorry, that was just a sneaky drink while working on a screen in view of other people π
It was great thanks, ollie
Even though it wasn’t a ‘cracking’ day, it was fun
Those days have long been over π
Afternoon.
CoR, that would be a great draw for us, so it won’t happen, more likely to be one of the PL teams, don’t care which one, if we’re drawn at home.
Re Rvp “story”. Well it’s more of a non-story really, what’s AW gonna say?:
“Weeeel, I don’t thenk ‘e wantz to sign yet, I can zee thes being wery difficult. It will probabably drag on all thru next zummer.”
Ofcourse not. Obviously he’s going to come out with the tried and tested;
“I’m confident he’ll sign a new deal. I’m always confident.”
BM time.
I’d also like to send my best wishes to the Blogs household and condolences for their lose.
Ollie, the original BBC article claimed that he had said that contract talks had been opened. They have subsequently changed it, so maybe you were right.
TS@155: I get the impression that Boltonians (is that a word? If not I just invented it!) aren’t that trigger-happy at the moment. I guess they realize that they have had a rather difficult fixture list so far, and I think they will be OK in the long run. I would say that Kean is a far more likely candidate at the moment.
From what I’ve seen/read/heard, the notloB fans are content with Coyle, so he should be avoiding the Spanish archer, El Now, eer sorry, El Bow. π
Looks like the Venky’s are too chicken to fire Steve, but the fans are Kean to see him move on. Although yesterdays performance in the CC may of done him some good.
Holic , Kind Sir , you have mail .
TS and the rest of the gang who kindly copied me in on the emails for last sunday’s get-together , apologies I wasn’t on-line and therefore incommunicado . Gutted I missed the sesh . Will clear the decks for the next one π
Would like to echo Holic’s words re Opus . Condolences to Blogs and Mrs Blogs .
TS , you off to Chelski as well , old son ? If so , give the boys a cheer for me .
Canons @129 , cheers for the kind words , and can’t wait for your artistic genius to be unveiled π
In answer to your question about Charlie , very difficult to say . Your guess is as good as mine . It was an age , I think , where support was perhaps less polarised , and he may have ended up as a sort of Pat Jennings figure , loved and admired by both sets of fans . Rather like Big Pat is still considered a “T*ttenham Man” , notwithstanding his years of excellent service to Arsenal , Charlie would always have been known as an “Arsenal Man” , but I can’t help thinking that his legacy would have been somewhat diminished if he had signed for the other mob .
Dr C @133 , how did you guess , an excellent likeness π
Trev , cheers for the kind word , hoping we can have that (half) pint very soon .
Brilliant work by Dr T . I see Nurse Wolfie is straining at the bit to get on the computer so I better vacate !
Dr T @141 Please reconsider, after all Nurse Wolfie is a liitle ‘long in the tooth’ if you know what I mean (eh,eh). Besides, Benny Hill was once my patient, that should speak volumes.
Afternoon H2H , Lars , Ollie et al ,
Have to say I’m in the Ollie camp re whoring journos . As far as I’m concerned , there’s no news until his signature is on the dotted line .
Coyle ? have to say he’s one of the few British managers who I’ve got some time for , so I hope he rides out the storm .
Dr Feelgood, Prof TES,
As there appears to be a board meeting today, I have a suggestion that may be worth discussion.
As we seem to be recruiting generally, however dubiously, at the moment, and to coincide with the return of Wolfgang Smallballs, in particular, to the HT MkII, would now be a good time to consider employing a guard at the rear ?
Yours indiscriminately,
Dr T.
Wassup tabs, BM sir?
AeB. Benny didn’t pass while under your care did he?
If he did, then I recomend you go undercover for us and take up a position at Shite Fart Lame. π
ABB @166 –
any reconsideration will depend, on my part, if you see what I mean, on your willingness to allow me to ensure that you are entirely correctly attired.
If you have any lingering reservations, Staff (tba) Nurse Wolfie will, I am certain, be quite prepared to linger throughout the examination.
I will also await Dr C’s suggestions / requirements with a view to your permanent appointment.
As for references to / from Benny Hill, this can only help your application, especially if you can obtain an introduction for me to the very slim bird with the straight dark hair.
I’ll never forget that gymnasium sketch . . . . . π
Yours tremblingly,
DDDDrrr T-T-T-T . .
Dr T.
That “very slim bird with the straight dark hair” probably looks more like the little slap head geezer by now. π
I can say that Ornstein was the most accurate with the Arteta deal and that deal was a tough one.
Have a feeling he knows what he’s talking about.
RvP and TV? Now that would be a pleasant surprise π
Thanks very much H2H – you just ruined my week off π
Sorry doc’.
Just trying to remind you of the old adage; be careful what you wish for…..
I wouldn’t want to see you with a baldy ol’ fat hag.
I’ll put a mention in my prayers for you to get a new and improved model.
In the mean time have a voddie shot on me.
Funnily enough, Snir, it’s the second time I notice Ornstein whoring himself as the owner of some Arsenal news via twitter that are rather ‘windy’.
Can’t remember what the first time was (may or may not have been around Arteta, can’t remember for the life of me), but either way I wasn’t impressed then either, it was easy and devoid of factual or exclusive content, just some pretend-know.
Anyway, news or no news, let’s hop RvP signs indeed!
With all the doctors and nurses around, I am slightly concerned that The Goonerholic Pub might turn into The Goonerhospitalic Clinic.
Don’t call me Dr O
hop? hope. I’ll be hopping like mad if he signs though π
Did somebody say baldy olβ fat hag?
That’s Shaft’s specialty…midget baldy ol’ fat had would be ideal but beggars can’t be choosers I think….
Memo to Dr T , Dr C , Probationary Nurse Abb .
cc Prof TES , Dr Feelgood .
Thank you all for the warm welcome back into the Quackery .
Despite some early hiccups re who wears the trousers ( certainly not me ) , I have to say that early working relations with Nurse Abb appear good . There was an early hiccup when she called me ” long in the tooth ” , but I have told her the only kind of bare-faced cheek I will allow is when she’s swanning around in her g-string dispensing goodies from the CMC . . If only she knew where my real length lay , eh Docs π
Some interesting new ideas for the Quackery , I must say . Fully on board with Dr C’s zero tolerance for this new-fangled “patient care” nonsense . We must resist these modern age ideas at all costs .
I have reminded Nurse Abb of the three central tenets of our infirmary , … handcuffs , paddle , and then a quick stroll to the CMC ( the last being for staff , not patients of course ) .
As regards uniform , this may be more problematic . I have reminded her of the need at all times whilst on duty , for Speedoes and Jimmy Choos . I have yet to show her the rather daring Speedoes I have picked out for her , ( pink with Sergeants stripes ) , and she has complained that I am keeping her in suspenders ! I trust this meets with your approval .
Yours Paddlingly ,
Nurse Wolfie
Cheers for the BM , H2H , just the ticket .
One hundred and EIGHT-y! Three arrows. Bang on the triple 60.
Exclusive footage of the new training programme in The Quackery .

I think tabs is warming up for the big 200.
You got it Ollie π
Dr T
My esteemed colleague… I had no idea that PROBATIONARY Nurse ABB had been so difficult in submitting to your (ahem) necessary medical examination. Fitness to practice and all that….
I trust that she will prove more co-operative at your next “interview”. Good luck old chap. Perhaps a “UBE”?
Promotion to Staff Nurse for Wolfie? Seems only fair to recognise seniority and expertise with the suppositories.
This of course opens up a spot for trainee (as opposed to “tranny”) nurse Helpa. From Sweden, apparently. I like the sound of that.
You take ABB and I’ll show Helpa how things work. I’m sure she’ll soon be able to handle anything that pops up.
Did we ever get those paddles back from Carlos?
Yours randomly
Dr C
Ollie – hopping?!
I’ll be jumping up and down so much I’d be injured for the next match!
But don’t worry, I’ll only be two weeks away!
Heh… just seen the Le Grove version of “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster….
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panic-Freak-Parody-Poster-61×91-5cm/dp/B004CRVKAG/ref=pd_luc_chashrec_04_03_t_lh
Good to see The Quackery madness freely flowing. At this rate, we’re going to require an entire Medical Car (MC) for the HT Mk II to house all of the staff and their equipment, especially Nurse Wolfie’s ‘real length’. Phnaar π
Edwin approves BTW.
tabs @ #165
Really sorry that you couldn’t make last weekend too. I shall be Bus-Stopping in Fulham on Saturday so both Snowy and I will require our anti-Chav bio-suits (see previous drinks for full technical description).
A set of anti-Chav ear defenders to protect our precious little ears from all of the on-pitch racist abuse could also be very handy.
I’ll check-in with Edwin to see how he’s getting on with product development although I believe he was awaiting clearance of the large cheque sent in by Snowy to cover the R&D costs.
There should be some form of ‘Holic gathering for Everton @ home where Dr.F will make a guest appearance too π
I also plan to be at the Marseille and B.Dortmund home games too. Are you planning to go to those?
Hi TS , will certainly be available for selection at Everton .
Won’t be at Marseilles , and unlikely to be about for Dortmund .
Will also probably be about for Fulham and West Brom , though Fulham is a dangerous one (5 30 kick off and all ) , so if you’re about for either of those …
Plenty of good pubs near the Bus Stop, TS. Best for selection of beers – The White Horse in Parsons Green.
Love it.. if you go, have one for me!
Put me down for Everton too. Too early for a bit of festive “Walking in a Bergkamp Wonderland” ?
Going into training to build up to the full pint π
And West Brom. In fact I’ve only missed one game since the Ems opened *says proudly* π
Shirt tugging and jostling for position begins – keeps wary eye out for TS and Tabs . .
Admirable record Trev .
Top 5 games at The Ems ?
1. Arse 2 Barca 1
2. Arse 2 Manure 1
3. Arse 3 Chelski 1
4. Arse 3 Spuds 0
5. Arse 4 Porto 0
Chest out , arrives menacingly on the shoulder , gives a little Steve Ovett wave to the crowd , and looks towards the tape …
A pretty fair choice Tabs, but although it was easy we played some fantastic stuff in the 7 – 0 against Sparta Prague. Maybe in at No 5.
Here’s a Hleb-like pre-assist for you . . . .
For fuck’s sake man . . .HIT IT . . SHOOT . .
Good call Trev – was that the game Diaby finished off a blitzkrieg move of one touch stuff that ran the whole length of the pitch and included a back heel from Eduardo or AA ?
get in !!!
200?
Ooooh….. hit the top of the crossbar. Well in tabs old bean!
Apologies for breaking my own no assists rule , but I’m a bit ring rusty , a man has to start somewhere !
Might have guessed you’d be lurking TS π
There was a lot of blitzkrieg one touch stuff in that game. The one that sticks in my mind is the Fabregas – Walcott exchange that Theo passed into the net while their entire defence stood trying to work out what was going on.
Think it may have been pre-AA, but my memory usually lets me down in these situations.
tabs @ #189, thanks and noted! Not planning to go to either of those games at the mo’.
Dr.C @ #190, thanks for your recommendation too.
I clearly could have got 200th if I hadn’t stopped for a shit.
Sorry for the triviality.
Many congrats tabs, good to have you back scoring the centuries.
TS is the new tabs?
Thought you’d never bloody shoot.
Slower than Wenger on Transfer Deadline Day. Pfff, bloody fannying around in front of goal. Give me Joe Baker any day. Has he left ??
Yep remember that Theo goal – great stuff .
The Diaby goal may have been a different game . Seem to remember we administered quite a few group stage spankings in that period .
My best match at The Ems so far was last Xmas when we beat Chelski 3-1. Didn’t have a ticket for the win over Barca. Also missed the 3-1 defeat of The LWCs when Cesc scored from the re-start after RVP put us 1-0 up. Happy days!
Trev @ #191 – Steady fella π
PHW @ #207 – Good to see you back. How was the AGM today old boy? Did you manage to shoot any of the great unwashed?
Who is ‘nottabs’? Can someone tell me?
I remember that Theo goal, can’t remember against whom though
tabs @ #208 – What about the 6-0 drubbing of Braga @ home last season? Some lovely exhibition footie and goals in that game too.
Harsha
I’m not nottabs nor am I the new tabs π
Seeing as I attended only one of the 5 games mentioned by tabs, you’d believe that I am either a plastic fan or a jinx.
Or both. π
Storey,
no time to tell right now, but I did bump into Kroenke on the way across the pond.
A tale for later.
Toodle pip! Nina get your coat, you’ve pulled. Or you’re about to π
A plastic fan ?
Now there’s an idea for a lonely winter’s night ! π
Ollie @ #213
Considering the distance you travel to see Arse @ home, no way.
I was present for two of those matches so, as I’m based in Herts, just call me Bertrand π
PHW is a fucking boy.
Only if Lady Nina allows Esso π
After this summer Esso, I’m a fucking MAN!!!
Dont see what the ceiling inspector’s got to do with it.
The Scene:
Executive Carriage Β – Happy Train MkII
A pensive Dr Feelgood looks at Sales graphs, mapped from “the incident at Salford” to the most recent double headed trip to Ashburton Grove, and then breaks into a smile as Professor Storey explains the significance of the steep red line toward the top of the chart.
Edwin: Β “Things are good Dr F, at this rate we will soon be able to discontinue the compulsory happy pills and just let the punters do what comes naturally”
Feelgood looks suspiciously “Well just make sure that the bar staff do it on their own time, and remind all aboard that Green Eyes is still off-limits”
Edwin: Β “Err, I meant drink copious pints of beer, swear gratuitously and generally laugh at the Cocks in White”
Dr Feelgood: Β “Aah right, I just assumed you meant err, Sports, as there appears to be some new nurses brought into the fold….have you seen that new “bit”, Dr C’s Little Helpa?”
Edwin: “Well, you know, Dr F, my relationship with all the staff is always of an utmost professional nature”
Feelgood: Β “That’s what Doctor Trev said and she was naked in an instant….all in the name of ‘examination’…., pah!”
Edwin: Β “So cynical, and yet so…..oh, old.”
Good report Dr. z. For the record, I’ve never stopped laughing at the ccoks in white.
It’s hard not to laugh when you see a chicken on a basketball.
Heh – I’ve managed to tune in to this evening’s entertainment just at the right time. Top work zico π
A (sadly not football – related) anecdote springs to mind at this point.
During a ‘work do’ many years ago I asked the then editor of the British Journal of Dermatology why he chose dermatology as his speciality.
He said it was down to two reasons.
The first was that when he was in training he did a stint in a dermatology unit and there was a really pretty nurse there that he was very anxious to know in a strictly non-professional setting.
The second (having completed his stint ‘in dermatology’ as it were) was the realisation that a really pretty patient could come into the clinic with something as simple-looking as a small rash on the back of their hand, and a dermatologist could, with a clear conscience, request the said patient remove all their clothes so that the doctor could check for any ‘signs and symptoms of further disease’.
He was, clearly, a bit of a genius. Much like the good doctors on this site I think.
Now to go check on the drinks…
π
Esso –
The “ceiling inspector” as you so unnecessarily refer to her, happens to have become someone very dear and close to me over the summer months.
She and I have shared a very special relationship of companionship, warm and genuine friendship and, of course, frenzied sex.
She has shown me things I never knew existed and I, in return, do little favours for her.
Only today I was helping her to have an autumn tidy-up.
I spent the whole afternoon in the garden with her, trying to find her clematis amongst her hugely overgrown bush.
I failed, needless to say, but boy was it fun trying !
Heh Snowy….
Trev, you’ve been rumbled…..
snowy –
I can assure you that Dr C and myself would never have wasted 9 years training in a specialty just to get good looking girls’ clothes off.
Dinner and a bit of flattery usually does the job, old chap.
Failing that, a bit of a scare from a well primed Gynae chum, and Bob’s yer Uncle ! π
Snowy, Thank you for sharing the innermost secrets of dermatology. Will you administer me the oath? π
‘rumbled’ zico ? How so ?
A good evening to you, by the way.
Never in doubt. *sparks up large cigar*
Trev, I was merely thinking of your bipolar friend, Dr T when Snowy spilt the beans about dermatology….
It IS a good evening, isn’t it?
Essssso! Keep the cigars for bonfire night!
Had a nice chat with the man on crutches tonight π
Heh Snowy, top post @ #224.
Best to don that bio-suit on Saturday after all for fear of a thorough inspection and de-brief in The Quackery post match π
Ahhh, top drinks as usual. This site never disappoints.
βholic @ 128 β looks a very fine recommendation on the pre-match dining front. Iβm meeting very early doors with a former boss (a Chav), who in addition to his poor choice of football team, is a vegetarian. Hahβ¦let the games commence π
Catalan @ 190 β good call on the Whitehorse aka the βSloaney Ponyβ.
Dr T β dinner and a bit of flattery? Doesnβt that just take longer and cost more? π
But your drink does touch on quite an important truth about gynae folk. There is a reason why the rest of the specialties donβt entirely trust βem. Something to do with them spending their weekends trying to paint hallways through a letterbox or some suchβ¦
8 Ball β I donβt really have the oath in my gift. But if you can consider an imposter a reasonable donor of same, then consider yourself be-Doctored. Remember, first do no harm. Unless your patient is Ryan Shawcross, then itβs compulsory Iβm afraid π
Apologies Edwin @ #233, I’ll use my own laptop now….
Nice one Ollie. Better be back on his legs by a week on Saturday.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Can we move the party into the other bar please. I have to clean up in here. Are those needles?
TS @ 235 – heh π
In response to your previous about the new high-spec lightweight biosuit, sadly I fear that my cheque may have bounced, and Carlos probably won’t accept an Oyster card as payment, on account of the fact mine only as about Β£2.50 left on it.
Still, when Carlos stares me into a heart attack for non-payment, at least the Chav former boss I’m meeting early doors Saturday was once a cardiologist. So, as long as he can still remember the number to ring to get the crash cart sent over from C&W hospital, I’ll be fine π
Oh and top call on ArsenalGent TS. Priceless ‘quotes’ on Twitter from the AGM today…
Reports made Stan sound disappointing!
