A Milestone Fixture In Every Sense
Mar 21st, 2014 by 'holic
When the first game of the season was lost if you had offered us the possibility of closing the gap on the current Premier League leaders to a point in the penultimate weekend of March I suspect both of your arms would have been ripped off. I also suspect you might have expected the said fixture to involve a Manchester club. Mourinho’s little horse leads the way, however, and in his one thousandth match in charge of Arsenal Le Boss has to outwit the odious and arrogant one.
Credit where it is due. Chelsea haven’t lost to their title rivals this season, and frankly we really need to do something about that at the bus stop in Fulham. Whilst not mathematically impossible it would be difficult to come back from four or even (whisper it) seven points behind with just eight games remaining, particularly given the involvement of Manchester City and Liverpool in the chase.
Now we could grumble that the injury Gods have not been kind to us. Tomas Rosicky is the latest to be a doubt for the game, but a reshuffle involving a recall for Mathieu Flamini was probably on the cards for this one anyway. Chelsea don’t do expansive. We are going to have to be resilient and prepared to join in the fight for every scrap of possession in midfield. Flamini and Mikel Arteta anchoring, the Ox and Lukas Podolski out wide, with little Santi Cazorla pulling the strings behind Olivier Giroud. It could just work.
Last weekend we got within range courtesy of a win at the brown and sticky end of Seven Sisters Road after Chelsea had surprisingly come a cropper at Villa Park. Few, even Gooners, expect us to land the title, but Arsene was keen to make it clear as long as we are in the mix we have a chance.
“The most consistent team, the one who can win a game on the day where they are not at their best, will win it in the end. This league is so competitive that anybody can drop points everywhere. Let’s just focus on the next game and win it.”
That is all we can do. Chelsea may not have lost a big domestic fixture so far, but over ninety minutes if we go out there with a can-do attitude and get our destructive fast accurate passing game going then we do have what it takes to get a result. We need one against a title rival quite frankly. I’m not sure we thought of Liverpool being in that category when we beat them at home. This would be a massive scalp with which to celebrate Arsene’s remarkable achievement.
The ‘holic pound has to be guided by the heart, and not the head. I’m grabbing the 15/4 against an away win offered by one bookie. There is a back-up pound on 1-2 offered at an astonishing 16/1 by the same bookie. They don’t give us a prayer, but I will be before hitting the sack tonight.
Now, I know Arsene provokes an enormous range of opinion and emotion among Arsenal supporters, to the surprise and amusement of followers of other clubs. I understand the reasoning behind the views of those who disagree about his where his future should be, but for one day at least could we unite behind an appreciation of the thousand games milestone. It’s a day for turning the guns outwards again. It’s a day for praying that the values that he and Arsenal have demonstrated can overcome those exhibited under the current regime at the Bridge.
Have a great day, traveling Gooners and ‘holics all.

“I wake up thinking about my condition and go to sleep thinking about it. I think about it a thousand times a day.” – Jose M.
In its simplest definition, arsenismus is an involuntary and uncontrolled fear of penile penetration resulting in an inability to have pain free intercourse. The fear is so great that it is usually accompanied by severe anxiety, often to any form of penetration, be it tampon, “Q-tip”, finger, dilator, GYN exam or intercourse. For many Chelsea managers intercourse is impossible.
Oh, I don’t think so.
Bend over Moroninho.
We’ll be gentle.
“Gentle Gooners”.
I would so love our great away fans to be singing ‘specialists in failure’ as Arsenal take all three points tomorrow.
Great preview mate, cheers for that. Need a result badly; recent history (against the special cunt) says no. So why not tomorrow? Glad to see you putting your money where your mouth is.
I for one would be far less charitable towards anyone claiming to be an Arsenal supporter but choosing to use tomorrow as a vehicle to have a go at Le Boss than you are above. I’d fucking eat the cunts.
Pull together now and celebrate together later. A little magic on the cards?
Love you Esso 🙂
If we get a win tomorrow, it would be nothing short of an astonishing result. Injury plagued Arsenal go to Stamford Bridge and give Mourinho his first loss there and his first loss against Arsene Wenger?
What a story. It would really give us hope in this title race and most importantly it would be a great present for the boss’s 1000th game.
I don’t have much confidence, but as always this season I am keeping the faith. C. O. Y. G.
It’s a day for turning the guns outwards again.
Amen to that, brother.
Let’s go there and get the three points.
Cheers ‘holic!!
BOZ! 🙂
Bozter! Great to see you mate.
Evening gentlemen. Here’s hoping to a victory tomorrow.
@ Silly Second Yella- Stinkfist is playing in my mind, ty.
Great post ‘holic, thanks to you too. For some reason, which is not rational in any pundit’s mind, I think we have a great chance to pull out a 2-1 win. I believe that in this big game we will come out on a very positive front and put those cunts in blue on their back foot. 1-0 to the Arsenal has inspired me and I think the boys too.
COYG!
let’s have it! i think there’ll be many a knee bent (except for trev’s) in supplication this evening to see your holic pound romp home…
Thiery Henry!!!
Top man ‘holic.
1000th time in charge of our boys would be a grand time to break the hoodoo and bring back all three points from the bus stop.
Josie is a special kind of tart, a total tampon tunnel, his attitude, which used to be seen as good soundytes by the swooning meedja is finally been seen as the classless bile that it has always been. I long for the day he is rightfully run out of town by a gang of angry journos with fackels and pitch forks.
Tar and feathers are too good for him. 😉
aj too 🙂
Evening all, thanks for stopping by.
Tampon tunnel indeed, H2H 😉
Heh @ H2H!
I think you are absolutely right Holic to call for a degree of unity and respect to commemorate a quite phenomenal achievement. Isn’t it ridiculous? A team playing for a crack at the title which might well give them their third double under one manager and about 40% of the Gooner population want him to be changed for a better manager. For some idiots better equates to the Portugese spiv who pollutes the game from his vantage point at the Bus stop. How classless has his behaviour been? Even today he singularly failed to show any respect to a man who made the path for foreign managers here so much easier.
Frankly I’d be surprised if we got a point tomorrow but at the risk of sounding like Kevin Keegan I would just love it if we did. What a pity we’ve possibly lost SIX midfielders for a game of this importance. The two they’ve lost are not out injured . I’m starting to doubt we will see Ramsey again this season . Let’s just do it for Arsene- a man of class and dignity. And the Arsenal manager.
Cracking post holic, aptly sung with the same measure of spirit, integrity and fire that the great man himself has shown a thousand times over!
Guns out indeed.
Hope we get a result though truth be told, I’d be more than happy with a point.
Real Madrid have approached Wenger on a number of occasions to be their manager. He refused. He stayed – at a time when he could easily have gone to a club with more resources to bolster his own CV. He took the hard road because of his love for the club. Last year, Real had to pay Jose to fuck off after he embarrassed the club and stank the place out. Says it all really.
Totally agree with TTG, I’m expecting fuck all tomorrow, but at the same time;
WE ARE THE ARSENAL
WE ARE THE BEST
WE ARE THE ARSENAL
SO FUCK ALL THE REST!
And our manager is someone you’d cross the road for, compared to that utter shit inhabiting the small bus stop in Fulham.
We need to play our best match of the season tomorrow. This is a cup final requiring everything we have and more. I think all the BS from Maureen plus Arsene’s 1,000th will provide excess motivation. Get it done boys. COYR.
Silly question, but any news on Trev yet?
esso, nothing on fb, my guess is he’s under the morphinic influence and there’ll be nary a peep until the morrow. i am sure it’s all ok…he was pretty sanguine about it. and he knows we kneed him tomorrow!
Lovely words Holic, they set the tone perfectly.
How symbolic that a man who has displayed nothing but class and respect throughout his amazing time at the helm, has his 1000th game in charge against the most despicable shite currently in the game and who showed his true colours in refusing to give due praise to such an achievement.
In reality I expect nothing from the game itself but I’m getting a gut feeling there will be a happy ending. Let’s show those blue cuntbuckets what an Arsene Wenger team is all about!
COYRRR
@scruzgöoner
Cheers mate.
no worries, esso. i put up a query in hopes that one of his daughters would post something tonight or in the morning. if i see any news, i will pass it along. of course, hopefully he’ll come floating in here like a high cross during the game itself 🙂 iirc he did say he’d only have text updates, which implied either iphone or ipad (or their equivalents) in hand.
Can’t somebody find Trev a stream ??
Cheers to Joe, H2H, Uply, and others for the excellent drinks above. I find myself in full agreement with the ethos of this thread. As is usually the case.
I recognize that the media often invent highflown narratives with naught but the feeblest grounding in reality, but for all that it’s tough to see this one as anything other than good vs evil. And as difficult as it will be to get the three points tomorrow, the gulf between us and them isn’t nearly so great as some are suggesting, even with our injury list. Tough but doable, if we get our approach right and with just a little bit of luck. Remember how we started against Bayern this season.
Come on you fucking
Anyone know the referee tomorrow?
Arsene is a learned, principled, honorable, and inspirational leader.
Jose is a veritable jizzbucket.
That’s really what it amounts to.
Get ‘er dun for Arsene, boys. Get ‘er dun.
BMBD
Hope the lads put that douche canoe in his place as a gift to Arsene for his 1000th match at the helm!
COYG!
So far Mourinho is a:
Special kind of tart
Tampon tunnel
Portugese spiv
Jizzbucket
Douche canoe
Haha! Did I miss any?
But seriously, you guys are far too gentlemanly. It becomes Arsene, but not us. C’mon, let’s pull out the stops!
I just woke up from a terrible nightmare; we were losing 4-1 at the Bus-Stop in Fulham having picked up a host of injuries in the course of the game. And the worst part? It was just the 61st minute but Mourinho was already standing by the tunnel, wearing the most odious smile ever, waiting to shake Arsene’s hand.
I’ll add my name to the list of those not expecting to win tomorrow … but only in the interests of reverse psychology, okay! 😉
On a sadder note, Oskar (the real dog, my schnauzer) has been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. He’s currently on a course of antibiotics, but if that fails to perk him up he’s unlikely to see the end of the season. Poor bugga won’t even be ten until May.
Öskar
Maybe we did a comeback but frankly I didn’t get to that part, I woke up sweating like a Christmas goat at the sight of mourinho standing by the tunnel.
Sorry to hear about your dog, Oskar, hopefully he stays alive long enough to at least see you celebrating an Arsenal trophy.
Sad to hear that Oskar…keep the pup in good speerit.
BMBD
sorry to hear that, oskar. I hope the boys can perk you up tomorrow with a win.
and cent, that is beautiful: sweating like a Christmas goat. thank you!
Oskar. Condolences on the doggie diagnosis. Hope he’s still fit enough to attack blue players on the TV screen though. 🙂
Howdy Scruz! How’s Cali?
BMBD
goonsterham lincoln. Andre Marriner appears to be the referee. Not really one of my favorites.
Good Morning Gooners, Holics an’ all.
Holic, that is a Jack Horner Preview – delivered with a-plomb. 😉
It’s 04.25 here and I’ve finally awoken (since 10.00 yesterday) for more than literally 30 seconds at a time. That must have been one hell of an anaesthetic but there were a few major complications.
My leg feels like it’s in a rolling cheese grater at the moment so it’s going to be another blast of morphine and back to sleep for a while.
In the meantime, so good drinks above.
You’ve all been great for me in here, so I don’t want to single out names but, Esso, next time I see you in that real bar, there’s a pint waiting for you for some top work up there. 😉
Oskar – Sorry to hear about your dog. I too have an old dog, a collie. As he has grown older I’m finding his happiness is directly linked with my happiness. Which also means that once or twice per week his happiness is linked to Arsenal’s success. Hoping tomorrow will bring a smile to both of our faces and happiness to our furry, four-legged friends.
Sorry about your dog, Oskar.
Scruz, i hope to be in here for the game – hydrotherapy permitting. 😉
Trev: hope tomorrow’s result gives you something to wipe away the pain.
Otd: Sad to hear about your dog. Hope he is as comfortable as can be in the circumstances, and you too.
If the gods of football have any true divinity, they will know what to make happen at the bus stop.
Cheers, Trev. 🙂
First off … Hope you’re well Trev … Sympathies Oskar … Top post Holic. Call me a sucker or a hopeless romantic or whatever but I just can’t fathom us losing this match on Arsene’s 1000th day. 2 – 0 one early and a late sucker punch. Fuck The Special Cunt BTW. Can’t even give a proper tribute.
After a 1000 games at Arsenal, we are witnessing a Legend, no doubt. Good luck today Arsene. I’d be well happy with a point. COYR’s.
Thanks for the kind comments guys. Oskar is comfortably ensconced on my bed waiting for the game and, I believe, still alert enough not to lose concentration when things of great import such as giving evil canine eye to chavs are concerned. He has been known to will the ball into the net in the most unlikely circumstances, and hopefully will do so again today. Except some times he gets confused by changing ends at half-time and it goes in the wrong goal. If we’re ahead at half-time I may have to send him out of the room.
Thing is, ecg, he’s not an old dog. He’s not yet ten and should have had another 3 or 4 years at least. He had a torn cruciate ligament last year, but the liver disease came out of the blue. I’ve spent the NZ equivalent of a thousand pounds plus on him in the last 12 months for not a lot of added life. Not his fault, but I could have bought a new one cheaper. I could never have done that of course.
Dogs just don’t live long enough. In my perfect world dogs would have the lifespan of wives, and wives the……. 😉
Öskar
Trev get better quickly!
Oskar my condolences about the dog, having lost a few myself, all i can say is it will get better over time. Make the most of the time you have!
Cheese graters, bus stops, tampon tunnels, hippo yawn.. only in this place!
Good to see Trev back, even if only temporarily. Hope the op went well.
Now it’s off to “the Bridge”, let’s hope we rip the special one” a very very special new one.
UTA
COYG
Sorry if my canine has diverted sympathy from ya, Trev. Best of luck with your reconstruction, it sounds gruesome. The good news is they can do something about it. 100 years ago they’d have given you something to chew on in lieu of anaesthetic and cut it off with a rusty saw. Maybe they still do. There’s a case on the bar for you when (if?) you next make it here. 🙂
Öskar
Oskar,
I’ve already had more good wishes than anyone could expect. I’ve had dogs myself for years and you do build uncanny relationships with them.
Your dog is clearly a proper Gooner dog, what with a torn cruciate ligament an’ all.
My last dog had a strange liking for classical music, but she didn’t Offenbach. 😉
Didn’t remove the awful pun gene, then? 🙂
Come on Arsenal!
Heh, no zico, in fact they told me I was a pun gent – I think. 😉
Great chance today, a bit of CL fatigue, suspensions and Jose completely crossing the line of basic courtesy and decency. Early kick-off will also work as those yuppies will be only just out from under their silk sheets but our amazing away fans will be typically raucous and utterly high on emotion. “Bad moments” my Arse. Many of us know all about Arsenal’s previous 1000+ games before AW – now THAT was hard work, esp pre Graham/post Mee. Aye, times were ‘ard back then lad. We salute Le Boss and the complete integrity and honour of our fantastic football club. COYG.
Good man Trev. Enjoy the morphing 😉
Trev, fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!
Oskar, sorry to hear about your dog.
Cheers Holic. 😉
Lars, a speedy winger wouldn’t go amiss either.
So, the good news is that Trev is available for today. I expect Rosicky to pass his fitness test too.
The bad news is Oscar, the dog. Loosing your pet friend is a terrible thing but my feeling is that Oscar will be around when Arsene lifts a trophy.
Trev – get well soon mate, glad the operation is now over successfully.
And the next time we meet up – I’m buying! Capisce!
Come on You Arsenal!
Good luck on your recovery, Trev. I hope the worst is behind you now.
Not sure about what to expect from today at the bus stop. But I’m optimistic that whatever the outcome, it will be a motivation for our boys to take maximum points from the remaining of our matches. This will be sufficient for us to be there or thereabouts at the end.
Our thoughts are with Oscar, Oscar.
Top preview, H. Great posts above.
Glad to hear you are through the op Trev….now the hard work begins….you’ll be training with the first team before too long.
Sorry to hear about the real Oskar, OtD. As a fellow Schnauzer owner, it’s chilling news. I wish Oskar all the best. Here’s hoping the antibiotics help him.
As for today’s little match, let’s ram that little reptile’s words back down his throat.
COYGs.
We can do this.
Thinking of Oskar here too …
Sad to hear about the real OtD, I never had a four legged friend growing up so I never really understood the bond. Now I’ve got Jimmy, a french bulldog, he’s a massive part of my life and I don’t even want to contemplate on how I’d feel when the inevitable comes to pass.
Welcome back Trev, great to have you back in the line up.
Glad you are back with us Trev…..where would we be without you leading the group punning – just no knee jerk reactions please when watching / listening to the match in a short while 😉
Sorry for your bad news OtD, hope the treatment has a positive effect.
Now let’s put our stamp of good football onto those obnoxious odious oiks.
Arsenal: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Arteta, Rosicky, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Podolski, Giroud
Same team as at The Swamp. C’mon lets have the same fucking start as well!
We are THE ARSENAL!
Subs: Fabianski, Vermaelen, Jenkinson, Flamini, Kallstrom, Sanogo, Gnabry
Chelsea : 11 spunkbubbles
Nacho not even on the bench, is he injured?
I actually think I despise the Chavs more than the Swamp Dwellers. Too long since we beat these A-Holes, come on lads!
Monreal not listed as injured, Lurky. Perhaps something happened pre-game.
Do you know what’s really nice? We have Kallstrom on the bench, he’s like a new signing!
Come on!
Get ready for a rude awakening Jose!
UP the Arse!
good morning all, and a beautiful morning it is. trev, glad it is all right, I hope we see a grate result so you’ll not be cheesed off. lonestar, Cali has been hoppin since I got back, I have to go to Hawaii next Friday to catch a break. how’s Dali? thanks again for your memorable hospitality…
Trev is back.
Now the Chavs are in trouble…
Hey na, hey na…
BMBD
we need one particular nurse back to care for trev, and so we can all take care of her…hoping you are wellest, abb…
Abb I’m thinking of you over here too and I hope you can see a big Arsenal vic-to-ree today. 🙂
So nervous about this one. Want us to beat Maureen and his cheaters so bad that I am feeling sick in my stomach.
Fuck Jose he’s a cunt!
Arsenal all the way btw I’m drunk already!
Any info about abb, 8 ball, is she well?
I need teh medecine cabinet to be open anyone? 🙂
Lurky. No info about abb for quite some time but a while back she said she would not be able to be on here due to doctor’s orders so I hope she is ok.
Trev’s got the morphine, I got the wacky baccy, Dr z’s got the rest.
Company rules don’t you know. 😉
Is ABB ok?
H2H
I know I will regret this 🙂
Wisniowka this early, ATG?
COME ON YOU REDS!!
Let’s do this ….
Lurky
Nahhhh only polish beer LECH
COME ON YOU REDS!!!!!!!!
Coyr
COYG!!!!!!!
COME ON YOU REDS!
Good man Woj
Phew, lucky there.
OOoooooo Giroud
FUUUCCCCK
bollocks!
beauty, almost in… then they fucking score. ugh.
ooo OG
That was way too easy for them.
Wtf
Fuck
good goal though……
ah…
aaah come on
we fall apart again. 🙁
Liverpool redux? fucking shit.
Fuc fuck fuck
Oh dear.
game over 2-0
fuck me this is nightmare
Defence? Ball possession? FFS
Will we ever learn
2-3 to us!
Come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another lunch time kick off, another two early goals conceded. damn, hope we can come back from this and win.
E’to off!
6 minutes, game over.
Going wide, punches it around the post anyway. Brainless.
Fock this!
Ref always kills the game for us…. 🙁
What the fuck is happening
Ref is an idiot!
I think I am going back to bed. why was Gibbs off?
like i say game over, gibss send off intead ox
Don’t even try to blame this on the ref. Fucking clear.
We’re just a disgrace.
Why was Gibbs sent off?
early kick offs are really really bad for us this is hell
bb we shot ourselves. what a waste.
Were terribly terrible
Ref sent off the wrong player!
HE IS AN IDIOT!
ox shoud get sub asap, play part on all 3 goal, loose every ball
we are fucked!
The most f*cking Arsenal performance of the season.
That’s enough for me.
Work calls.
Wow.
What a bunch of fucking weak ass losers.
Embarassing.
The ox – wow. What a horrible cheat.
Id fire that fool.
God. Were ina fight for 4th.
Scandalous.
We seem to lack the bottle for this kind of matches….
No passion and losing the ball all the time in the midfield.
Something for the manager to look into…!
For the first time in living memory I have stopped watching an Arsenal match – what an implosion again!!! And after only 17 bloody minutes. Against good teams our mob is a shambles. Time to try and enjoy a Saturday without devoting time to this shower of incompetence.
And why isnt moaninyo in the stands after a red card last week?
Nobody shld even point a finger at the ref except you’re a cricketer.
good thing is Gibbs will get the red card rescinded and the ox now can’t be punished…
Poldi out….was he ever in?
ox told the ref it was him and still the ref send off gibbs
under appeal, homer. they delayed charging him so he could face wenger…
Wenger deserved much better today
That’s enough of that – Time to watch England get smashed in the cricket far far less painfull !!
Why can’t the bloody ref just admit he made a mistake and send off the right man ? Crazy rules.. maybe there should be video replays!
hey trev, pass that morphine around, we all need it.
Damage limitation now, fucking awful.
i think i have seen enough
On a day were you would think the boys would go the extra mile for the boss ! They are letting him down BADLY !
its his team Tim, he deserved everything today. flamini again on a bench in a difficult away game
No backbone nothing even my little one hates it!
So embarrassing. This is the most humiliating thing that could happen and it is not even finished.
Painful day to be an Arsenal fan.
ok we’re down a man, but can we quit giving away the ball in midfield please?
@142, Ox wil be banned, Bans get transferred in cases of mistaken identity that are appealed successfully.
Agree on Flamini. This kind of games just doesn’t suit Arteta, he is to slow for every team that press us high on our half.
Expected better from Arsene.
@153 couldn’t agree more. It’s hardly a surprise Jose gonna employ the same tactics he always does against us, ie press in midfield then counter attack.
You might hope that some lessons had been learned from previous debacles this season. Obviously not.
What a complete farce.
Yes it’s his team but at some point the men on the field need to be accountable for not being vaguely organised during the opening ten minutes of a match. It’s beyond me how there can’t be the on-field leadership to say let’s slow it down and keep some early possession.
A very quick and high pressing game is 100% at the heart of us being undone at present and recently, I’m not a manager but I’d love to know how you combat that effectively beyond playing a long ball game (or having 5 at the back which I’ve felt would suit us best in these sort of matches for years). Or..having some bloody pace in our side to keep opponent more cautious…
Horrible match….
I’ll take the water boarding option next time…..
I wouldn’t mind as much if such footballing carnage happened in an evening match as its straight to bed afterwards; with lunchtime capitulations us fans have the rest of the bloody day to manage our angst
they’ve not given up on the pitch, that’s for sure. playing a *bit* better.
Ox is really having a mare
try watching this at 630 am, David…
long long day for us thanks arsenal
ah good. another goal to twist the knife.
just..no
welldone wenger happy 1000 matches at least you will remember it ,the problem we wil too
Arteta off Flamini in. Give me the bad man now Wenger.
Immense pain here – drugged up to the eyeballs – can’t handle any more of this.
Laters, Holics.
for all this, we *are* missing jack, aaron, theo, and mesut from the team.
🙁
Scruzgooner I sympathize with you! I’d go back to bed, trouble is I would get no bloody sleep as im seething right now
Always a bad sign when you make Torres look good…
Well we tried and we gotfucked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
is why I am still here, David.
trev, take care…
Game over.
4th place.
This is a bunch of fucking quitters.
Losers.
Three away games against the other three teams in the top four has resulted in FIFTEEN goals conceded. So far.
Ive just put on Twitter, why no proper defensive midfielder in the side and for each of the 3 goals either one or both of the full-backs are so far up the pitch out of position its no wonder we get so exposed away to very good sides!
rosicky is the only one that is trying to make something happen…..the rest have been very very poor…….
how the did we prepare for this game???????????????
The sun is still shining outside so, it is time for a long walk with Mrs. Lurky.
Arsene, for all the money you earn I would not like to be in your skin today.
Have a good weekend ‘Holics.
joke its just a koke
I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that our performances in lunchtime matches are this piss poor ..it looks like the team is not fully awake.
No. Were didnt get fucked.
Arsenal is simply not very good. Were kidding ourselves that this team will win anything.
We are indeed missing key players.
However, more often than not against top teams, we just do not show up! Whether this is because of team selection, tactics or just the lack of desire from those playing or even the quality of the players.. i do not know.
This is just frustrating and sad 🙁
The most welcome advertising break in many a year 🙂
Sad,very sad!!
we tried !!! chelsea set up their team with 2 DM and wait for early storm as usual .we got royally fuck by chelsea , not help by our player who are still in bed
in a way we lost this game
So we turn up with fuck allllllllllllllllllllllll
We drew \t bayern and we get tinkled a BF
Same tactical mistake. Why couldn’t we just be a bit more humble and play the way we played against Bayern? Deep defensive organization, and waiting for the counter attack? We countered their pressing game very well, or as we did against Dortmund who is a much better pressing team. Today we started with a game plan that requires powerful midfielders well capable of defensive screening and sweeping, which we don’t have.
What happened to the defensive organization? Ox is having a nightmare in the defensive sense.
What an awful way to remember the 1000th match in charge.
Had Giroud scored that goal when he had a chance it would have been a different game, but as always he is too casual,
Oh my goodness how awful we look in games like this. Bad luck has nothing to do with this. It’s a combination of lack of desire , tactical and psychological flaws and opposition who are much more up for it. I feel very frustrated with them. I didn’t think we could win this but to lose like this is awful. We would bite their hands off for 4-0
now. Chelsea’s approach will determine if it is
Switched off when the penalty/red card was given. This could end up 8-0. Hard to throw those specialist in failure comments back in Mourinho’s smug face today.
Trev, sorry about the fare. Hope the operation went well. Get well soon.
We have been atrocious, pity the occasion has gotten the better of the lads. It seems Wenger fell for the Mourinho crap about Arsenal been more like Chelsea these days(being defensive minded)and tried to prove a point by going all out to attack.
A couple of goals to help self belief would do nicely.
COYG.
Chelzea fans singing ‘Arsene Wenger we want you to stay’. Doesn’t get more humiliating than that.
i though you switch off how can you hear the chav singing
i’m moving from australia to singapore and everything is quite surreal right now…so i’m guessing this is also part of a bad dream?
let’s have em, come on boys!!
Ahoota… Yay.
thanks god my best mate is a forrest fan and wont open his face today they are getting screw by derby too
Mariner admits to BBC it was his fault Gibbs got card
Ox is clearly feeling down – can AW turn him round second half
Can’t even spell correctly, what a state I’m in.
Oh and I never thought would say this but Sherwood was seemingly correct: last week’s win does paper over the cracks, a hell of a lot of them alas.
Another technical error. Why move Sagna to the left? He lacks the pace and no-how. TV should have continued at LB while Sagna moves to the middle. We’re in for an 8-0 indeed. Hope Arsené is sure of what he’s doing.
we have been mostly shit for the last 2 month, our defence has save us few time ,last week we were lucky spurs got a day off in finishing because they have outplayed us
How many more times is Santi gonna give the ball away today.
Santi one who needs to improve vs the bigger teams imo
I refuse to believe we lack the ability. We make the same tactical mistakes by not acknowledging the weaknesses in the team. Ox has been showing signs that he is inconsistent in that role and even at Spurs he misplaced passes and lost the ball many times, obviously Chelsea targeted him. If there was a match to play Flamini-Arteta together this was it.
close, santi!
Face facts we just don’t have what it takes against big teams- we’re simply not on their level!
Being realistic makes it a lot easier to take.
I cant help but keep checking the score every 5 minutes, why is it…cus I’m a fan I guess. Full credit to those fans still in the ground watching!
Liverpool it is.
We would have played Ox on the wing and I wouldn’t have taken him off, he was the best outlet we had. Wenger should be better than all this.
5 fucking 0 .
FFS Chesney….
Just a thought, not a question for now obviously but if we manage to not win the cup, will Wenger elect to walk as our inability to beat the top sides shows no signs of abating?
you sure that’s what you want David?
Thankfully the FA Cup Semi is a bit of distance away to allow the players to forget this nightmare. And hopefully this ‘performance’ won’t have an impact on Swans match.
will arsenal let it get to an American football score? Chelsea just need the extra point :eyeroll:
okay..thats it for today ..cannot watch this really
complete humiliation
6 – 0 what an embarrassing day, i knew it would have been tough today but wasn’t expecting a hammering.
I am ashamed of this.
Embarrassing.Another weak arsenal side. Terrible.
These players owe us an apology. As does AW.
1000 games. Fuck you.
Cheers holics but im out.
Is this match live on the Comedy Channel?
Can anyone explain why we are still playing a high line?
nb1, no.
Media lockdown for the next two weeks. Very sad indeed. This might be a watershed moment that makes the boss walk at the end of the season as the internal and external sharks will be out for him.
Nb1- yes
mourinho knows why
dont worry we still have city to play 🙁 another chance to fuck it up again
No surprise that many on here are still surprised and shocked
Media lockdown for the sunnysiders will be in full swing
Don’t let the facts get in the way of 9 years of denial
Scruzgooner whether I want him to stay or go is not the point, the point is how much longer can he put up with having a side not capable of winning prizes and challenging the very best.
Unforgivable. This is the man’s 1000th match and this is how the team pays tribute. At the venue of the specimen who constantly is taking a dig. The players should get their wages docked every match they don’t show up. Bastards.
hats off to the traveling fans, still singing to the end. I just feel sick.
Fucking hell man
I worked it out… Kieran Gibbs probably asked to be sent off….
gotcha, David. fair enough.
We just have to write today off as a bad day at the office. If someone offered we would get 6 points out of 9 against Chelski, Spurs and Manshitty i would take that. So we could beat Manshitty at home and still be in the mix for the PL title. As for Wenger not winning a cup this season would he leave, I don’t think he would, besides I can’t see who would replace him? Would i want him to leave, for me no.
NB1 @ 225: The frustrating thing is there is a template for us playing well in these types of matches, playing according to our strengths, and we do that when we allow ourselves the humility to realize our weaknesses … however something goes awry when we play some of our bigger oppositions in PL when fail to acknowledge the limitations and set up wrong tactically. The Man City match we should have played deeper defense and rely on reactive , counter-attacking game-plan but we decided to go all-out against one of the deepest squads in football after less than 72 hours of rest following a CL game.
Today we should have realized that strength wise we have no chance against Luiz-Matic and hence no need to open up the midfield. Santi and Ox looked very poor because they were unable to offer each other any support due to the significant difference in pace and strength in the center of the midfield. We should have used a double pivot, someone to screen and rely on Ox on the counter attack.
We lose 6-0 and I’m relieved. There will be a long inquest into this on here and throughout the Arsenal kingdom. And we lose to a loathsome . Classless , team and manager in Arsene’s 1000th game. We certainly end up with some bizarre results
We’d better win the Cup after that. Chelsea were faster, stronger, hungrier. Dismal day.
Aussie, I guess being a doom monger you’ll be basking in your glory today. Enjoy.
Like fucking clockwork in all the big away days this season. Wake up late, check the liveblog, see that we are three nil down fifteen minutes in and decide not to watch the game.
I am not even sure who to blame. Wenger surely must be doing something wrong if it keeps happening time and again. And from all accounts, Giroud was shit today.
Come on boys, let’s win every single game from now till the end of the season and lift the fucking cup.
andya @ 237: I would like to see it this positively, and hopefully you are right and we can beat Swans and City at home. Title as well as 3rd position are on the line, don’t much fancy a CL qualifier in World Cup year.
However, the same tactical and psychological failings in THREE away matches (resulting in three awful score lines) in the same season is really worrying for a top level football team. We really needed to get something out of this match to sustain the confidence gained recently.
We’ll, that’s as bad as it gets, awful performance, horrifying result.
Impec1 @ 241: I was just going to write something same, then thought why bother? If someone can gloat in the occasional realization of his pessimism at the expense of the team’s result then there really is not much of a common platform to discuss…
Can AOC be forced to serve a suspension for the incident after the fact? Serious question…
It was all over in 7 minutes, they blew us away, that’s what hurts the most.
Tim@246: According to the commentator who contacted FA while the match was in progress, apparently yes.
Odd if you ask me, as referee saw the incident and already made a decision. That decision is wrong and hence we should appeal and overturn the card for Gibbo, but you cannot give a red card retroactively for an offense that was already punished, albeit the wrong perpetrator…
Trev was the lucky one. At least he had morphine
Indeed Doc. Waste of time. I won’t even type another word about people like those after this.
Nevertheless Doc, I agree with you totally about the same psychological and tactical failings in these away games.
Tim, it has happened before,
Arsenal may get that card changed. In November, Preston of League One had the wrong man sent off against Port Vale – retrospectively, striker Joe Garner was suspended for three games despite midfielder Neil Kilkenny being shown the red card during the match.
Also the ball was going wide. It’s therefore not preventing a goal. Therefore a yellow not a red.
Dr Faustus, I agree with you completely. There is a level of arrogance exhibited in games against arguably better teams. Add to that the fact that Mourinho has the Indian sign over Wenger. Something struck me yesterday when reading Mourinho’s”tribute”. He stated that Wenger is doing okay now only because he doesn’t pay as much attention to attacking as he does defending these days. He basically said Wenger parks the bus these days. Sure enough, Arsene comes up with an all out attacking game plan. That wanker sure knows how to get into the gaffers head.
Regardless of the mix-up over the sending off, the handball was a dumb thing for the Ox to have done anyway. The choice is between conceding a goal, and conceding a penalty and a sending off. You don’t do your team any favours by choosing the latter.
Not a good game at all.
it really shows how much we miss Walcott & Rambo…..Cheski wouldn’t have been that comfortable if we had these boys available. We are also missing Ozal and Jack…..if you take four of your best players out of any team would struggle.
Game over
League over
Analyse obvious weaknesses in this team.
Move on
Win cup
In summer, correct weaknesses in this squad.
Beat the lot next season.
I don’t get this block we have. We can go to Munich and put in a shift but get an EPL top 4 team in front of us and we’re shambles.
Bath.
That may be true, but they can put it down to “intent” and he definetly intended to stop a goal.
I’d be extreamly surprised if he isn’t sanctioned, what the fuck he was thinking I’ll never know.
Impec1 @ 250: Yes, that is the part that hurts most, the repetition …
Anyway, time to pull off the football plug for the next few days until the Swans game. It would definitely get neurotically morbid in the Arsenal-Net until the next good result.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend mes amis, try not to think about this one too much. I will try. 🙁
The next match will be a real test of our character!
We mustn’t let this setback affect our preparation and mentality for the next one. Still many things to fight for!
Arsegonian @ 257: Absolutely. See my response at 192. We approach these games differently, could be lack of adequate self-awareness, hubris, or just naivete.
Impec – not at all
The opposite in fact
A very sad day for the club I love.
Just not a surprising one.
The stats above from cynic are not the stats of a winning manager.
I have nothing but admiration for those who can stand on a hill and sing their hearts out for arsenal with what was in front of them today.
I have nothing but admiration for every sunnysider on here who supports the hell out of this side, year in year out for little reward.
Personally, I do think arsene will not sign on again at the end of this season, because he is such a proud man, he will know he is no longer acting in the best interest of the club he built and loves, albeit whilst always trying to do his best every single day.
It is just not working for him or the club
Fair point H2H @258. Probably be done on intent.
Wenger has shown a certain arrogance in the way he sets up his team against “better” teams. As Doctor F states somewhere above, this is not an isolated incident. Play the match like the Munich away game and we come away with something.
Moaninho has the Indian sign over Wenger, that much is clear. Arsene takes the bait hook, line and sinker over and over again. According to the nauseous one, Wenger’s relative success this season has come on the altar of a sacrificed attacking play. He also said that”park the bus”tactics are Arsenals new game plan. Wenger just had to disprove him by setting up in an attacking mode. Exactly what the wanker anticipated.
Just a minor rejoinder so that there is a bit of balance in people’s mind.
We have been awful in three big away matches in PL.
But statistically speaking this season has seen our best winning percentage — 66.67% before this game — under Arsene.
So. Somethings. Are. Surely. Good.
Praise @ 264: Painful as it is to admit, that really is the truth and it hurts.
Everyone has their weaknesses, and this particular blind spot of Arsene’s has been so painful to watch over the years for us his admirers.
Jebus, what a result.
Makes my head hurt…and the presence of the anti-usual suspects just worsens the stench of defeat.
So, have at it necromancers…I’m off to watch the BLG play some games. She knows how to score – sign her up, Arsene.
bmbd
Good morning from the states! Bad result that was 🙁 just curious, and maybe this has already been discussed but in the event that we get 4th and united win the CL, does that mean we r out like spurs a couple of seasons ago when Chelsea won the it? Or have the rules changed since then
Whatever we feel about the team our fans were incredible today. They were probably at the Etihad and Anfield too. They deserve so much better.
We can point to serious injuries but we set the team up very naively today and the attitude was awful. Psychologically they look very flawed.Tuesday cant come quickly enough. Its hard to pick on individuals because no-one played well but I thought Arteta and Cazorla (who has not played well for a while) were particularly poor. And I bet Koscielny is injured as he was taken off at half-time
The club should compensate anyone who bought tickets.
What a fucking embarrassment. AW you should be ashamed. You have been exposed as a total light weight. If i could fire you id do it.
Emotional you say. Maybe. But no self respecting professional gets beat this badly. Again.
Against the top 4 teams this side has been thumped. We are miles away from actually contending for the title. And anyone who denies that is kidding themselves.
And i wasnt anti-Giroud until today. He does nothing. Except fall down.
FFS cannot the club buy a decent striker????
And props to the away support.
Bigtime.
@268 United isn’t winning the Champions League. But they changed that rule anyway
Thanks arsegonian for clarifying that! But the way am a big fan of your blog 🙂 keep up the good work! And yes they will not win it 🙂 🙂
No they didn’t, the rule is still the same.
A maximum of four clubs from the same association (in our case the FA) may compete in the CL. So if man U win, then they take the PL’s 4th place.
What Homer says @ 271.
*by the way
Damn you autocorrect
Next years winners of the Europa League will also get a CL place, not sure if that will effect how many teams from one land can have.
Sc gooner: re Manure bumping 4th place team if they won CL this season, yes that would be the case. But with Manure up against Bayern in the next round, don’t count on it. Worry more about the Arsenal finishing fourth at this point based on today’s performance.
And again, fourth would mean having to play in to get to the CL group stage, which is something you don’t want to do in a World Cup year, with players being rested at that early stage of a season…..
Really a bad day for us.
Big pity that the players could not produce a performance to match the demands of the occasion. And once those two goals went in in quick succession, I knew we were truly in for a hiding. A disappointing decision from Chamberlain put out any flicker of hope for a come-back.
The season does not end today though and it is sad that some “fans” sound like it does. The way I see it, we lost 3 points today.
Let’s hope our boys feel enough contrition for this awful showing to make them knuckle down and get us the results we now need to stay in the mix.
Onwards and Upwards!
My fault. I thought they did but my original comment still stands. United isn’t winning the UCL. Arsenal will be top 4 … 9 up on Spuds with 8 to play
that was pure tactical annihilation in every sense of the word. told someone yesterday that i was actually considering not watching the match, not because i expected us to lose, but because i thought it was sure to be the most boring game of the entire season or several seasons. but no, the boss thought he could…well, i don’t even know what the game plan was, but it was so desperately wrong that it smacks of negligence. i have not been a fan of sending wenger on his way, but i’m leaning now toward thinking that 1000 games is enough. i willingly forgave the city and liverpool defeats as flukes, but i was very cynical about our chances after the performance against united at home. now, i am nearly convinced that we need a change in direction. injured players, unlucky calls, bad refereeing, financial doping are all hard to bear, but just setting up the team for an away match to chelsea in this way is just an epic failure. the beating we took at united a few seasons ago was down to the lack of players through injury and transfer. we were playing kids, and yet we still looked like a scary scoring threat for good parts of that game. the big defeats this season have been tactically delusional along with the other problems with injuries and so forth that we’ve had for ages now. this cannot be allowed to continue. i’m not sure what the right “mix” of fixes should be, but we’re due for a few.
Scarcely know what to say. Getting caught in possession against today’s Chelsea side was suicidal, they scored on each occasion.
I suppose Arsene thought we had to win this game to stay in the title race and set up the side accordingly but it was just what the obnoxious JM was hoping for. How I hate everything about this classless club but they were far too good for us today and it grieves me to say so.
Chesney had another dodgy game and it wouldn’t surprise me if Fabianski was in the side for Tuesday. I trust Kos was subbed as a precaution and nothing more sinister. Boy, do we miss our current injured quartet, the latest gossip doesn’t have any of them back before the Semi Final.
Worried from King’s Lynn.
COYRs
All our main rivals winning today 🙁
Everton is now a lil too close for comfort!
We got to win our next league match to erase this bitter defeat.
A lot of good whinging in the bar today with the antipodes leading the way with the didgeridoom strut. Where’s Danish though? He’s usually here by now letting his guts rubble and adding to the rather foul odour with a good fart 🙂
Win the next eight and tuck twenty four points in the bag and let’s what happens in the league.
Win the Cup and that’ll be one more trophy than Chel$ki will win this year.
Today’s best stat from BT Sports : Since 1996 Chel$ki net spend 688.5 million. Arsenal net spend 59.5 million. Abramovich’s ill gotten gains have been the differentiator to date. That’s about to change with Arsene having some real money to spend in the summer.
That was a shocker today but we’re not the first team to lose at the Bus Stop. The other stat, three points lost, is disappointing but not the death knell. See you for Swansea on Tuesday and City on Saturday. All six points and the Guinness on me ‘holics. Usual place.
6-0 ! Chelski are not that good ! We were that poor !
Along drawn out inquest will change nothing, as we had one against liverpool and here we are again.
The team really needs to look at itself this time, silly mistakes and 5 yard passes that cant find a team mate has nothing to do with tactics. Thats just an all round poor performance.
The most grating thing is this puts us in poll position for 4th when fourth is the position you really dont want to find yourself in a world cup year.
I really feel for AW today, he was let down so badly by his team. I dont want to hear any stupid crap about its time for him to go or any shit like that. Today was about the awlful performance of the team not an awlful performance of the manager.
AW deserves much more on his 1000th game that his players offered him and I hope he gave them both barrells and reloaded and fired again. Today is not a day for ahhh poor boys dont let them bully you, its about WTF was that about !
Cheers
Excuse the poor spelling wrote in anger.
Looking at today’s results across the fixtures, it seems that the top 4 teams excluding us can score an abundance of goals, with at least 5 per game…
Arsegonian: it’s not Spuds that’s in the rear view for fourth, it’s Toffees. They are eight points back, with a game in hand, and a six pointer with the Arsenal at Goodison.
Stout words, BtM. I’ll raise a glass with you to put today’s horror show behind us.
@288 Arsenal1971
Excuse me, but it is fair to say that Arsene Wenger got what he deserved today. It is not just his players fault.
@287 BtM
I know you can find a spot of light in the very darkest hour, but are you suggesting that every time we lose against team that spent more than us, is kind of justified only because of their power to spend.
You see, we got trashed 6-0, but feck them they have spend fortunes and we have not. Boring excuse.
And what about Liverpool. Have they spend a fortune? I think not, but we were equally trashed.
Lurker,
I went to all three Littlepool games this year and saw Our excellent team thrash Liverpool twice.
If you don’t think there is any relationship between spend on players/wages and results, god bless you. 🙂 You probably don’t think that City will win the League this season and lose about 700 million in the process.
We should definitely have listened to your advocacy and enlisted Moyes. See you next Saturday?
Sorry, “Lurky” – machine is out of control.
Lurky
Wenger wasnt on the field, how can he control wasteful passing and stupid mistakes ?
On the day the players let Wenger down, being second to every ball on just passing it to your opponet is hard to control from the touch line.
The only player who may have been in the starting 11 could of been Flamini and one man doesnt stop what happened. Apart from that most would have agreed with the players he choose. So how was it all his fault ?
Tactics mean nothing when you capitulate like we did.
Wow.
Easy lads.
BtM, all I am saying is that wherever we loose against a team that spends more, we tend to emphasize their spending power. I am bored and sick of that.
Spending money has nothing to do with constant injuries of your player over the years.
Spending money has nothing to do with playing high defensive line against a pacey players of the leading PL team at their place.
Spending money has nothing to do with if your pivot against sides that press us high primary needs to protect the back four and only after that think of organizing an attack, so why choosing Arteta over Flamini.
Spending power has nothing to do with positioning your LB so up forward in the pitch, almost as a winger, in the first 15 minutes against league’s leading team on their ground?
Spending power has nothing to do with ignoring the fact that Chambo is not a midfielder. At least that he is wasted there. As Ramsey was as a winger. I really don’t know how many games will pass and how many points we will loose, until Arsene realizes this. He is so persistent that he sees him as a midfielder. He may have been spot on in the past with converting players, but if he wants to play Chambo in different position I see him only as I striker.
I agree, spending money has made a huge difference for them as we all agree, but can we for once stop using the spending stats and admit that today we were tactically naive, outplayed by a far better side and move on.
lurky, one thing. when you can afford to keep nearly a whole team of talent that might start at most other teams, you can rotate your squad easily so no one is bothered by pushing extra hard for a game or two. arsenal don’t have that luxury, and at the very least being overworked has to contribute *some*thing to our players’ injury crisis.
Key Things to improve :-
1) Tactics
2) Players motivation (esp. against the top opponents)
3) Longevity of overall fitness over season (avoidable injuries)
4) Depth of squad (replacements must be able to perform adequately)
My two cents.
Swansea will be a tough match, but one that we should win at home!
Cruz, fair point, was thinking the same for a long time. But be kind and explain to me, how Hazard, Ivanovich, Azpilicueta, Ramirez, to name only a few who play in every game, or almost every game for Chelsea are never out injured?
Scruzz, sorry, stupid machines 🙂
Wenger goes AWOL from his post-match press conference, poor on his part. Oh why can’t he Davis a competent tactical strategy when facing the very best at their own ground I ask
*devise a competent…
mf@283: I don’t think the set-up was necessarily wrong. We could have been 1-0 up before they scored if Giroud had put that early chance away. But both their first two goals came from counters after we gave the ball away. They weren’t the result of wrong tactics but of individuals making mistakes.
Lurky, and then BB,
All great points. Won’t disagree. I can’t help but think that had Giroud scored in 4 minutes that the whole bag of tricks would have been very different and the “go all out” approach would have been lauded as a masterclass.
One of the common links between the 0-0 draw at home in December and today’s game was the fact that Giroud failed to convert a golden chance. I’m a big fan of his, but predator he is not.
Regarding Alex in MF, I think that’s his future and he’s looked really bright in recent games. Would he have even started if Wilshere, Ramsey or Mesut were available today? I don’t think so.
I’ll take my hat off to the next team that goes to the Bus Stop without their four best players and wins. Eat it even. Not making excuses, just being realistic. No doubt in my mind that Aresene will reinforce DM and strikers in the summer.
In the meantime, SMILE! We’re going to win the Cup, we’re still in the League – I’ve not given up on my 60-1 double just yet, AND we’ll be back in the Champion’s League next year 🙂
Always loved your optimism, BtM. Hope you are right.
Lurky, there’s also the little matter this season of no big team having come out with any point from that cursed bus stop.
Yes agreed — love your optimism BtM.
A shameful way to see in Arsene’s 1000th game and for him to miss the press conference — he must be hurting. Getting trounced by that fucking little toad and his team of charmless scumbags makes for an especially bad day.
Oh well, we’re going to win the cup — surely…
@David
You’re annoyed that Wenger doesn’t show up to a press con when things aren’t going his way?
Pots and kettles, old chap.
Wenger says he takes full responsibility. Will he tell us exactly what he did wrong and does that mean none of the team was at fault including giving the ball away
Terrible result and performance. Not the first time this season.
Team set up all wrong, but they’re adults and should have enough about them to know then when you ship two in ten you steady the ship. Blame all round.
Looking beyond today, it’s three points. We’re not winning the league – and that’s been the case all season. We shouldn’t finish lower than fourth. We should win the FA Cup. This could yet turn out to be a very good season, all in all.
Great posts above from BtM and we played to all those who keep their peckers up on dark days.
On to Swansea.
COYG
@311
I can answer this one; “no” and “no”.
Lurky @298:
“today we were tactically naive, outplayed by a far better side and move on.”
BB @300:
“Key Things to improve :-
1) Tactics
2) Players motivation (esp. against the top opponents)
3) Longevity of overall fitness over season (avoidable injuries)
4) Depth of squad (replacements must be able to perform adequately)”
BtM @306:
“In the meantime, SMILE! We’re going to win the Cup.
Spot on, gentlemen.
A case of Merlot is open on the bar. Get stuck in.
50% of ALL of the (league) goals conceded by Arsenal this season were in three matches…when we lose we do it big style
That must be the oddest statistic ever
Look at the shock on Theo Walcott’s face
