Mail Attempts To Fan The Flames
May 20th, 2009 by 'holic
For the second morning running I had to make a hurried comment on an earlier post as I prepared for work. The point I think is worth bringing on to the front page.
At a time when people connected with Arsenal, supporters and staff alike, are at each others throats, I know I don’t need to tell most ‘holics to query the motivation for some of the stuff you read on a couple of blogs, and the Daily Heil.
Most of you have long since worked this out, but I make no apology for bringing it onto the front page, so that the others can understand that there are those with an interest in stoking the fires.
“A quick postscript for those who queried my pointing out in the last comments that the Mail has become the vehicle of choice for Red & White Holdings.
What do you think was their motivation for today’s vitriolic piece of bile and personal abuse?
Who do you think has most to gain from the cheap shots at Peter Hill-Wood and Stan Kroenke?
Scumbags.”
You may care to ask yourself why Peter Hill-Wood is so shoddily renamed in the piece, and why Kroenke has suddenly acquired a new nickname, ‘Silent’. You may wonder why they refer to ‘Alisher Usmanov’ rather than ‘the once-imprisoned plunderer of the Russian state’, or ‘David Dein’, rather than ‘the permatanned chancer who made £75 million out of Arsenal after trying to sell off the club behind his colleagues backs’.
It makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

The only useful thing for the Daily Heil is for standing my plant pots on.
I’ll have a pint of the Black Stuff please Mr Holic 🙂
My grandad used to say that newspapers were only good for wrapping chips and lighting fires.
point of correction.
i have always watched basket ball and i know for one thing the Stan Kroenke has always been called Silent Stan for the way he ran his biz. NOT GETTING INVOLVED AND ALLOWING THOSE WHO KNOW, DO THE JOB.
Agreed, good article again, will voice disapproval immediately, even though most likely it will be cut.
Well done. The Mail is rubbish.
Sorry gaya. I should have given him his full Mailname, ‘Silent Stan, who has never been to an Arsenal home game.’
Am I the only one who sees irony in the Mail, of all rags, dissing the old-Etonian while bigging up a Russian oligarch who is somewhere to the right of Ghengis Khan?
Oops, silly me. Just answered my own question…
Morning ‘holic
Watched the Q&A on Arsenal TV last night. As I understand the session was heavily edited. I phoned one of my pals straight after and said “He’s gone, why on earth would he want to stay after sitting through that.” Honestly, I was squirming in my seat and watching through gaps in my fingers.
What really scares me is the thought that these views are shared with a good percentage of the support. What I witnessed last night beggars belief. A lesser man would have walked but thankfully in Arsene we have a truly great leader and a man I hasten to add that could teach the powers that be at the Palace of Westminster a thing or two.
Morning ‘holic – excellent piece. Was about to make the same point as you, it is a tremendous irony that a paper can be both the favourite of the BNP and yet prefer an extremely dodgy Russian over an English heritage.
But then it is amazing what a wadge of cash does to morals. Hang on, did I just suggest that the Mail once had morals? Silly me.
‘How many goals do you think Drogba would have scored if he was having chances laid on a plate in front of him instead of having to snatch what he can after bringing the ball out of orbit?
See, that’s the thing Mr ‘Holic, old Dogbreath can’t pull balls out of orbit like our Emmanuel. Remember that time in Villareal when the ball had gone twice round Pluto and our Emmanuel had his back to the goal? Next thing me and Chaver knew, it was in the back of the net. Out of orbit and right into the rigging.
Old Dogbreath and The Sulk couldn’t a done that in a million years which is why their stats ain’t close to our Emmanuel and our Emmanuel had the highest scoring rate in England this year. He’s gonna look good in his blue top and golden boot at the Bridge.
Keep walking on the wild side, Mr Holic. You do excellent work ‘ere. Old Chelsea Bill can be a right pain in the arse on occasions but he does make the occasional point worth a ponder.
I was about to leave a comment under that piece, but where do you start?!? Absolute sh*te.
so………now a lot of you are starting to support Stan the ‘we dont want his type’ kronke huh????????
i always thought arsene was stuborn and refusing to strengthen the team for the sake of making his point; now it appears i was wrong and
he was covering the board that did ” their best to keep the club’s heritage,…etc” and refusing to sell their shares (unlike david dein the traitor????) but only to sell it after two years (danny…the trai…..?)
it is confusing but why is here the double standard ??????
and why not the openness and transparency? and where is the problem with funs/shareholders who got frustrated with the repeated lies of “we can even spend 30mil if we want”?
good to clarify arsene worked within such limitation (my respect for him only increases) but why try to use the funs as scapegoat for their own lies????????

Why are so many gooners sold on a man they really know very little about (Kroenke) but no longer trust a man who transported us away from mediocraty (Dein). I don’t know why there is such support for Kroenke. Give me Dein and the fat man any day. Get a grip gooners.
Becasuse Dein sold his shares……..oh wait….those shares were initially sold by Hillwood;
and Dany the “arsene can spend 30mil if he wants” Fizman kept his shares…..oh wait he has started to sell….
There’s a lot one could say about Dein but I’ll restrict myself to a couple of observations.
Firstly it was he who introduced Kroenke to the club – and if you really want more info on SK it’s all over the net.
When this didn’t work out it was off to the Fat Manc-Supporting Oligarch (again there’s plenty of info about him – despite his lawyers best efforts – and none of it good).
I know which of the two I prefer.
Secondly if Dein had had his way we’d currently be renting the ploughed field called Wembley and would not have our own stadium.
Dein did a lot for the club but his time was up, as his subsequent behaviour has shown.
I’ve been critical of many aspects of the club this season but the current, largely media fuelled, hysteria is ridiculous. If the problems aren’t sorted out in the summer then there will be grounds for complaint.
As it stands its been a very disappointing year. It was to my mind avoidable but it’s done and it’s time to move on
Garett: Totally agreed on Dein.
Over the last 5 years the club has spent 5mils + Arshavin in transfers. That’s among the lowest amount in the EPL, even lower than Newcastle. We still owe a lot of money for the Grove but at the same time we have 3 billionaires at the board and not a single one of them gives the impression they are putting their money where their mouth is.
I am not in position to attend games and pay the highest price in the PL for the priviledge so it’s been easier for me than some to be somewhat relax about the season (simply disappointing IMHO) but I can understand why season ticket holders would want the board to face their responsabilities.
For 100 articles questionning everything about AW, there’s not even one about the board. At least this article put the spotlight where it should be. Too bad it’s from this despicable tabloid but at the same time one is better than none.
I’m in a Sauvignon Blanc phase and it suits me surprisingly well these days, I just have to focus on not drinking as many glasses as the cigarettes I’m not smoking anymore but it seems once vice feels the void left by the other…
Well said, that man.
Brandy please.
I agree with Matt and Garrett completely about DD. His better days with Arsenal are over and it is time to move on. It seems to me Dein’s nose was knocked out of joint since being summarily dismissed from his once powerful role at Arsenal and, fuelled by spite and anger only, allied himself to whatever and whomsoever rich and powerful ‘gentlemen’ that were available, at the time, inorder to force his way back in….in whatever senior managerial capacity.
I personally do not know Kroenke or Usmanov so can only rely on the newsreel coming in about both characters. Kroenke seems to be the most acceptable face but, frankly, we need someone who can more reliably be seen to supply the much needed funds to strengthen the first team – and beyond. That is surely the acid test…is it not?? Wenger may not like spending money but I think we can all agree he would have spent more (than he has so far)…..had the cash been available!?
Far be it for me to suggest but perhaps we are wasting too much time expending our energies in measuring the respective character references of both suitors and should be more importantly challenging them on EXACTLY what good they can bring to Arsenal Football Club??
Hey ‘holic, I know it’s unrelated but cheers for the link in your ‘Hol-Picks’ section. Glad to see you enjoyed my article.
Keep it up.
etgoon is just ethan in disguise. He is an idiot 1st class, (and any other class). Just ignore his bile, he will go away, as he always does, when our GREAT manager shows he is still the best.
Imagine SAF and Benitez managing on our budget.
A clue to ethan.
Loads of !!!!!! in a sentence and or loads of ?????????
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!for your muppet!
but it is only my right to question every act of even a great manager.
if u want, i am gone from this site (i.e i will not make comments and irritate your little brain anymore) — enjoy your ‘likeminded mates ‘ comments here.
but you will definetly been gone before i leave this club
cause it is a club of my life…..regardless of which manager or bloggers are there
Chill, et.
You will have noticed, I hope, that I try not to stop people from commenting here, unlike some blogs.
I do however hope we abstain from personal abuse and just argue our case.
I have numerous people whom I consider to be friends who hold ideas that I cannot agree with about our great club. The fact that we disagree doesn’t make them any less of a Gooner than me, or anyone else for that matter.
All I ask is that you argue your points fairly and stay loosely loyal to the rules of good grammar, because I know not everybody has English as their first language.
Cheers.
