Arsenal Can Count On Striking Options
Jul 27th, 2009 by 'holic
So good were Arsenal’s strike force in their toughest test to date that not even Richard Clarke, reporting for Arsenal.com could keep track of the scoreline. Against the sameΒ Hungarians who last season held us to a 1-1 draw there were braces for Nicklas Bendtner and Eduardo. Richard thought Robin van Persie had matched his colleagues, but sadly his 79th minute header was ruled out for offside. Obviously Arsenal’s roving reporter couldn’t believe we had fallen foul of the offside law now that Adebayor has gone!
All joking aside, Arsenal controlled the match virtually from start to finish and Arsene Wenger will be greatly encouraged. Of course there is no point in placing too much importance on these early contests, but winning them will ensure the spirit in the camp remains high.
The combination of Bendtner and Eduardo was impressive, and once again Armand Traore caught the eye down the left hand side in the opening half. The hosts, four down at the break, could have been forgiven for fearing the worst when we started the second-half with Gallas, Vermaelen, Arshavin, and van Persie. I suspect all four will begin the next game.
The only negative would have been felt by those persuaded by Wenger’s insistence last week that Tomas Rosicky would feature tonight. Let’s hope we see him on Wednesday as slightly stronger opposition, in the shape of Hannover 96 from the Bundesliga, are encountered. He needs games if he is to return to his best.
I’ll be back with a report on the Hannover game, and hopefully once again my abacus will prove more accurate than Richard Clarke’s.

to easy
At the end of the day you can only beat what is put in front of you and with a big season coming up for Bendtner and Eduardo, it’s nice to see them finding the net. After all, practice makes perfect and will do a lot for their confidence.
NICE PERFORMANCE!
NICE PERFORMANCE.!AT LEAST WE R WINNING OUR PRESEASON GAMES,UNLIKE MANSHITTY!LOL
its just a preseason game thou. I wouldn’t get my hopes up. We need a big signing specially in DM and we shouldn’t sell toure. He is arsenal thru n thru.
we have enough attacking options. we need to strengthen our defence. that should see us challenging for the title atleast. But I wouldn’t bet my money on wenger buying proven defensive players. thats all we are lacking IMO.
I would love to see someone like Mark Noble or Miguel Veloso as they are both better than Lee Catermole who we got linked with this week.
But i think Wenger has faith in Denilson and Song who are decent players, so he might not buy a DMC.
I would also love to see Huntelar, but Wenger would not do this as it might hold back Bendtner, Eduardo, Vela.
Any signing to me will be a bonus, as i believe Wenger still has the faith in this team with Vermaulen and Arshavin the new arivals from the strart of last season.
If I’ve not missed last orders, I think a Monday night port would be in order.
Ta ‘holic.
I’ve got the very port for you, Fin.
Rosslare π
Damn, another drubbing i missed watching because i don’t get ATVO and the cable service here is too busy showing ‘pool, citeh and the amsterdam tourney.
But they are showing the Hannover game though! Can’t wait to end my own pre-season preparations π
I’m really optimistic about Eduardo…does he deserve a place in our best eleven? I’m thinking yes unless fitness says otherwise, but doesn’t that leave NB as a sub again? I’m glad I don’t have to make the decision but can RvP play behind them and Arshavin wide left Walcott wide right.
4-2-2-2? Confused myself now
The best line-up
almunia
sagna Ver/toure djourou/gallas clichy/gibbs/
Nasri Song/Denillson
Theo Cesc Arshavin
RVP/Eduardo
Nikki B./vela
Killer line-up!!!
Love the ever accurate reports from .con π
Whisper it, but I think we might have a good squad this season.
Whisper it even lower (don’t tell blogs ) but I quite like the new kit, more and more. You know why.
A pastis would come in handy before lunch, thanks.
It has a Girondesque quality, Ollie π
good report – loving the photo
Arsenal.com should employ me … I wouldnt make such a mistake!
Bring on the Hannovians!
@ AM,
we won’t even challenge for the title with those two in the DM position. Song is too damn slow and gives the ball away too much.
lets just hope wenger gets a great proven DM or one off the two mentioned above steps up this season but that is very unlikely IMO.
we dont need a striker as much as we do a DM. I would looks faith in wenger if he doesn’t sign a DM. the ones we currently have is basically shite!!
and selling toure would be a mistake IMO. how about giving him the DM position this season as we seem to have lots of CM. Why not? wenger played eboue at DM!!!!
I think wenger has totally lost it!
A nice crisp dry white wine please ‘holic…to go with lunch….make it a double please buddy π
Good result. Nice to see the squad aclimatising so well to the challenge ahead. For me, there seems to be a steely determination to prove the press doubters wrong….from the likes of RvP, Nikki B, Eduardo, young neutron Jack, Vermaelen, Djourou. Even Gallas has kept his head down and gotten on with the job at hand.
Seems to me Toure might be on his way out. As much as I love what he has given so unswervingly to Arsenal, I can personally live with that – I think he’s given his best years to Arsenal. Hangeland would be the ideal replacement and we can then claim to have the kind of defensive options we have always been seeking for this team of attacking hot shots.
NB. I still think we need a defensive midfielder although haven’t the foggiest who is available that would be the ideal candidate.
Just a tonic water for me. I’ve failed to remember to get tickets for tonight’s match at Maidenhead.
Same as Snail, and we turned a 1-0 half-time deficit into a 7-1 win π
Bugger. Make mine a large scotch.
I’ll have a glass of Vinho Verde, suits the weather around here. Actually make that a bottle since we’re at it…
I’ll driknk to Kolossal Toure and evrything he gave to us, especially the run to the CL final.
He and Senderos, Matt.
Cheers.
