Apparantly Wolfgang Smallballs was arrested at the airport this morning, detained under the Indecency Act.
While tottering through passport control in his Speedos and Jimmy Choos, he disingenuously informed the immigration officer that this season he was “hoping to see Theo Walcott coming off the left-hand side, and fancied Robin van Persie in the hole”.
Is it just me or is Frimpong going forward too much? Maybe he’s getting permission from AW since Denilson is too lazy to join the attack, or too lazy to do anything but stand.
But, I would like Frimpong to be Song’s understudy and not roam THAT much.
Can’t really see what’s written on the screen cap, but I’m guessing this is in keeping with .con’s usual : let’s put something on the web for availability to thousands at once, having only tested the accessibility when 10 people are trying to connect ?
Gooners the cuntalunians are at it again…with the midget of a cunt Mavi(xavi) coming out saying how cesc is suffering and to make it worse it’s on their official webs(h)ite…surely they can’t be allowed 2 get away with it?
P.S.mavi means shit in swahili.
Nasri replaces Ramsey who played the whole 66 minutes up until then, Arshavin replaces Miyaichi who played the whole game, Sagna replaces Jenkinson who played the whole game.
RvP replaces Denilson who played 20 minutes since the start of the 2nd half. Now that was insulting, but he should have thought about that before he started bad mouthing Arsenal.
Traore is looking good.
Vela’s nonchalant approach in front of goal is annoying, evidenced by his miss on 69 minutes.
some pointers from this game, at least in my opinion
1. cj had a nice debut for me, he’s got pace, attitude, some smart crossing, on the bad note he’s got a poor first touch, he is abit over-enthusiastic, and has missed a couple of passes from ramsey which can be forgiven due to the fact it’s his first game, all in all he seems like an extremely nice buy, this kid can become a great player.
2. armand traore showed again how much skill he’s got, both defensively and offensively, he’s got the pace, the skill, alot of confidence and he’s a great tackler, if he only can evade his over-trying mentality (just like abou diaby) he can make us forget all about clichy, he’s defiantly got more skill then him, i’d take him over gibbs any day.
3. vela again showed he has tons of skill, wrecking havoc all over the oppositions box, he tried nice assists aswell, overall he is far more capable then marouane chamakh.
4. marouane chamakh – another horror show from the player who has in my opinion no place in arsenal, he doesnt have pace, no dribble, he is a mediocre finisher with zero killer instincts, he plays away from the box with his back to goal, and can’t pass, get free, and doesn’t even look to take a shot, a real poor player, i would release him on a free transfer with denilson, almunia and as much as it hurts me to say it rosicky.
Trev@9 – No doubt we’ll be hearing from Wolfgang’s prison cell at some point π
Thoughts on the game , watched it with no problems at all on the link provided by Noel73 , so thanks Noel .
Not sure about the quality of the oppo – are they any better than Barnet ?
Thought Jenkinson looked very solid , and will be a decent addition across the backline .
I liked our young Japanese starlet very much . Loved the way he hugged the touchline and had skill and pace to burn . More than a touch of the great Anders Limpar’s about him . Could give us the width Steve T craves .
Chamakh looked very much the post xmas Chamakh of last season .
Denilson’s appearance at half time followed by his substitution 20 mins later was simply to remind would be suitors he is still available .
How did Arshavin manage to run 20 yards in that humidity and create the 4th goal , when he can’t manage such lung-busting efforts on a crisp winters day in the UK .
Corking pass from Ramsey for Walcott’s goal .
Vela was sublime and wasteful in equal measure . Plus ca change .
+ vermaelen and koscielny showed how they are 10 times better then djourou and squillaci, vermaelen should ware the armband from now on he is simply the complete package.
I don’t even think that the scientists involved with the Hadron Collider could work that one out. I’m not one to slam our players, but I just can’t see the sense of having him around the squad, he’s been vocal about wanting to leave and unlike with Nasri, AW seems more then willing to let him go.
Anyways, off to the bar for me, been busy lately trying to find a loop hole in the new smoking law, that’s been inforced again over here. I’ll catch up on the previous drinks another time, I noticed a new episode of BTA that I’ll need to ‘ave a butchers at.
While I disagree about Chamakh, I still feel that B52 is a much better player who was wasted on the wings. Give him time up front and the man scores goals and is not afraid of taking on defenders.
Mebbe Wenger saw more of a team player in MC, but is that what you need of a striker?
I was gonna link to a Clash song, but they come out on the wrong end of a confrontation with the law, I on the other hand, I’m in it to win it. I’ll let y’all know how it pans out.
Gotta bounce, I’ll try to check you out via my iphone.
All the usual over the top comments on our first game for a few months. Apart from a “show the flag” and financial reasons, these foreign tours are meaningless and already Wenger must be longing to get back home and start the real pre-season training.
Here on the home front the whining from northeast Spain continues.
It must be apparent now, to even the most dozy Barca player, that
they must meet OUR valuation if they are to sign our Captain. He has some years to go on his present contract, so the ball is entirely in their court.
On the transfer front, I’m sure things are progressing steadily and quietly towards the arrival of new blood. There is plenty of time before the Window closes and patience and confidence in the Emirates backroom boys is the order of the day.
After reading today’s arseblog I agree completely with gunnerblog’s view on Nasri and Cesc.
He’s saying that AW was quoted on Cesc that he has to be in it and Nasri is staying even though it’s apparent he ain’t in it and it doesn’t make logical sense.
What’s reasonable is that AW is resigned to Cesc and so he backtracked on his Flamini quotes re Clichy and Nasri cause he doesn’t want to sell them both in the same summer.
Otherwise I can’t seem to grasp why AW would say this for Cesc and this for Nasri. How can Nasri stay if he ain’t “completely in it”?
@Snir: remember it’s all mind games and we’re not privvy to 90% of the facts.
Also you cannot infer any kind of conclusion about the motivation/shape of players in the first friendly pre-season…
8ball – That Necib is playing like a female French version of Cesc today. I don’t quite understand wearing make-up whilst on the footy pitch though … male or female. 1-1 @ 69′.
A Samuel Adams please barman. As a show of solidarity with my southern brothers and hoping they’ll pull through.
on 13 Jul 2011 at 7:14 pm45behind the 8 ball but not nasri
Stingy, I think most if not all the players had make up on, and the announcers said Thiney and two others of the French team posed naked for a magazine as a PR stunt to drum up support in France. After that I checked out Thiney a little more closely as it were, and she indeed displayed lovely form on the crosses. Necib was looking lovely as well as lively but the Yanks despite being outplayed for most of the game pulled it out (“it” being the game not what you are thinking π with the lovely Lauren Cheney playing a large part. That’s how it went in the “other” game today. Japan or Sweden next on Sunday and if it’s half as dramatic as the run up has been it will be well worth watching, not to mention certain of the players.
8ball – No doubt that there was a lot of ‘talent’ on that Frenchie team. I understand the posing nude for a good cause and am all for it. Still do not get wearing make-up whilst on the pitch however.
Lars – Sweden up next v Japan. Are you watching? Do you care? You must. Please name us some Swedish alcohol, especially beer, we can order whilst watching. I’m only familiar with Absolut vodka. Cheers and good luck.
Another Sam Adams for me barman and one for 8ball too.
PS Have you not yet considered a name change 8ball? It could be a very long year retaining your present moniker and I’m sure Snir thinks it’s past its best before date π
The French WWC team dominated possession and all the stats, dominated play, were physically smaller than their opposition, had a poor GK, plenty of players with French names, a French male manager, and still found a way to lose the match today. USA 3-1 FRA. Sound familiar anyone?
Four hours after the game, and still I can’t watch anything other than ‘bitesize highlights’ on the new Arsenal Player they have upped my membership by 50% to fund.
@Snir: perhaps I misread you but I understood your comment “itβs apparent he ainβt in it” was related to today’s game. If that’s not the case my comment is indeed irrelevant.
@SV: I was torn watching that game but certainly was also a bit swayed by the french “talent”.
Is it me or these gals were dropping to the ground even more easily than italian men? Don’t they give cards for simulation in women football?
How can a referee that gave fans the finger get promoted to FIFA’s head of referees (not to mention the fact that he’s a shit referee and apparently has a very low threshold for patience after the whistle!!!)
Evening All,
Not one for Friendlies in Pre Season but one thing I can safely say is Traores about as much use to Arsenal at left back as lube is to Jordan not a hope in hell he will make it as a left back
Chippy – What makes you say that? By all accounts Traore played rather well today. I’m very worried about Gibbs becoming the full time LB as I have very little faith in him. Gibbs could have us all wishing for the good old days when Clichy kept opposing forwards on the opposite side of the pitch onside.
Stingy – thanks, and I believe mine was frozen at Β£3.99 per month, but some did go up around 50% from there. To be honest I didn’t check too carefully ‘cos compared to the season ticket increase it was hardly worth worrying about.
Snir,Stingy,
I’d look good in a match like today’s !! Then Again π Just my opinion but from what Ive seen he goes on more Wanders than the proclaimers not to mention his ability to switch of at any given moment, Add into the pot the amount of clubs he’s been loaned to with not one wanting to take up the option of buying him at each he’s had a couple of games at left back but then been moved more advanced (My view he’s more suited to the flanks) and finally his happiness to sit on the outskirts looking in he had the option to join Benfica but they wouldn’t match his Arsenal paycheck (A problem we may see more of this summer)
On a plus point he dud take a Knuckle Duster to the lane so he gets a gold star for that one π
Gibbs will be fine as long as he can get a run of games injury free but that’s s big if with his current record,
@Snir: you don’t know that. Himself and his agent have consistently said the player was happy at Arsenal. They’re just pulling a Rooney on us so to speak but nothing indicates that Nasri is not “in it” at this point.
Snir,
Wasn’t that ref the one who sent off RvP for shooting the ball inside a second after blowing the whishtle at the Shit Camp against Farca?? I was expecting some good things on his way but this is little OTT…
Matt, pulling a Rooney on a team is not being in it in addition To being disrespectful to the club, especially after you’re quoted saying we were the best team in the Epl and should have won the league in June but come July and you say that not signing the contract is not about money but pure ambition for titles where all the top teams stayed more or less the same.
We shouldn’t take negotiations out of context. They are just that, negotiations. We may all hate that some prefer to do it through the media but it does exert added pressure via that route.
I’m more concerned about what the player does on the field. If and when he does go I will boo him then. Up until that time I will support him.
I’ll have a cidre bar keep, it’s all the rage amongst the French girls, cheap night out.
Looking forward to the game in china on Saturday when can actually watch the match.
Pity Gervinho is not out there, it would be nice to see him in action, it may just have given Le proffessor another game plan, by putting Ryo on the left, Gervinho on the right and Theo through the middle.
SV – but you can’t be quoted in June saying we were the best team and should’ve won the league and say you’re not signing because of ambition in July when no team has changed.
And no team has changed.
City didn’t buy anyone when he said it’s about ambition so we’re still better than they are according to his June quotes.
Same thing with Chelsea.
United lost their GK and Scholes and replaced them with a19 year old GK who only has 2 years of experience, a 19 year old CB who has 2 years of experience and Ashley Young.
Is Ashley Young the player who would make (in Nasri’s eyes) Utd better than us so that he can’t stay cause we aren’t ambitious enough since Utd is so much better than us as opposed to last season cause now they have the mighty Ashley Young..?
Snir – Who on a title contender is not going to say that they think their team was the best in the last campaign?
And since the damn Mancs have consistently won silver recently whilst we have not, someone saying that we lack the ambition that they have could objectively be seen as true. We hate to hear it being the subjective fans of the club. But he isn’t off the mark. Add to that the fact that he is trying to secure the best deal that he can since he is in the midsts of key negotiations determining his future and I don’t hold it against him.
I wished, in an ideal world, he would do all of his negotiations behind closed doors and not through the media (or let it all be done by his agent).
And I’m more concerned about his performance on the field. We will see what happens. I’m not going to get my undershorts in a knot about it at this point π
Stingy@40: sorry for the late reply, haven’t been online since early afternoon! Yes, I did see the game and of course I wanted them to win but the Japanese were much, much better. Can’t think of any Swedish beer I can recommend, though. There are good Swedish beers but I am quite tired now so my mind has gone temporarily blank.
As for the important stuff, i.e. the Arsenal, all I have to say is that it was nice to see the players have a bit of a kickabout. We’ll learn more later on.
And the Arsenal Player not working is just ridiculous. Come on, they must have been able to anticipate the traffic? I fully understand the anger felt by those of you who couldn’t watch it via a proper broadcaster.
Anyways, off to bed in just a bit, see you tomorrow.
Sorry about the result today Lars but there is nothing to hold your head about as your ladies have plenty of ‘talent’. That 3rd place game between yourselves and the French will be worth viewing for all the right reasons π The Japanese played very well and I would not be surprised if they win it all.
SV – If ambition is his thing, and from what you say “he may be right” then he shouldn’t have come here in the first place don’t you think?
It’s all bullshit, he’s looking for money, end of.
Everyone on a contending team would say their team were the best, but when you say it and a month later say you wanna leave cause your team ain’t good enough, well that’s making a mockery of the fans’ intelligence.
How he’ll play? I have the feeling he’ll be the Samir Nasri we saw in the latter stages of the season, but I’d be glad to be surprised.
Did not see the match as I was on a sun drenched beach…in Ireland where the whole country comes to a halt when that funny little yellow ball appears in the sky…but I did hear the denillson boos were just a fabrication. Carlos vela scoring a wondergoal when game is won…seen it…rosicky scoring only in friendlies…..seen it. Malaysian ladyboys claiming Bendy did not travel as he owes them money…not seen that.. . Agree with Chippy on Traore, I know he is young but when you have it you have it. Now if we can keep this goal ratio going through to xmas we,ll be sucking diesel..
Noel73 ” malaysian ladyboys claiming Bendy did mot travel as he owes them money ” π π Bravo Sir
on 13 Jul 2011 at 11:34 pm98behind the 8 ball but not nasri
Stingy, I wouldn’t be surprised if the bookmakers make the Japanese favorites in Sunday’s match with the high level they are playing and the application of their players. The U.S. were poor compared to the French for most of the game but they defended well and Wambach’s height was an advantage on the second goal and could also come into play against the Japanese.
tabs – you can be relied on for everything! Humour, technical advice, incisive serious comment – I had actually just tried adding the dash “nose” anyway, but cheers. Americans, eh!?
I find Stingy a very good benchmark – when i find myself understanding the many points he makes , I know I’ve gone too hard at the CMC and it’s time for bed π
Don’t let mere height fool you Nas , I’ve heard these Ladyboys will ” stoop ” to any lengths to ensnare their victims . Plastic Surgery is so extreme these days some even go so far as to be cut off at the knees . I’m not sure , however , whether this procedure aids or abets their footballing skills π
I know , ‘Holic , how did we cope before internet and illegal TV broadcast in pubs ? Oh yes … I know … Bryan Butler and Peter Jones sending me into near fatal heart attack mode on a fortnightly basis
Yes, we always agree to disagree because you spend most of your time talking and little time drinking whilst I do vice versa π Since you’re not touching your drink I’ll take it off your hands. No worries mate π
Young is starting out wide left for the Mancs v your NE Revolution btw.
Not seen any of the match today except the goals. Can’t say I get too excited about pre season friendlies.
What has amazed me is the new stance on Nasri. All we have heard for ages now is that we would under no circumstances allow him to run down his contract. Now it seems a complete U turn? I guess those in the know really are in the know. Big gamble so I hope they know what they are doing. I must admit, if he walks away next season on a free I will be fuming.
Is it not about time we made an official complaint about Barca? How much more of this shit do we really have to put up with? Why do we not man up and bloody deal with it? Frustrates the hell out of me. It is almost as if we invite them to continue.
Thanks all who have helped with the ‘smiley’ advice – just annoying when you can’t do it.
Devastated that Downing is off our list – not. Β£20m is not even funny, even if it is only the Mugsmashers who have been had.
Steve T – maybe we don’t report Barca ‘cos there’s no time to waste on lost causes. I suspect we already know what answer we would get. The powers at UEFA cannot be unaware of what Barca get up to, so why don’t they act anyway?
Can you really see them punishing the European Champions, favoured sons and charity friendly supplier of players to the World Champions, all against us.
Must be some material there TABS for a bit of PHW action in Episode 6. “;-)”
Trev. We will never know unless we try. I am guessing there are enough sat on their arses in N5 that some senior figure could spend the time to report the matter officially. I am just really bored reading this shite coming out of Barca, in the knowledge that we do nothing about it. If UEFA do nothing then they will effectively admit that tapping up is now acceptable.
Steve T – Agreed regarding losing Nasri on a free next year. I too will absolutely lose it then.
Trev – Don’t use those the quotation marks, only what’s between the quotation marks. Including a dash for a nose is not necessary and is only superfluous. The nose doesn’t show up on the emoticons anyway. At least not on this site.
To wink, type “;)” to get π
For sad Trev, type “:(” to get π
Mugsmashers eh? I like that. I notice both you and TS use that to describe Liverphool. I imagine it has to do with their holigan history. They are the mothers of holiganism π
It was a definitely a great experience to watch the arsenal for the first time live, and it was a good game overall. Both sides wanted to attack but obviously Arsenal were a class above and Malaysia kept at least 8 men behind the ball at all times. Malaysia only did well in rare patches but the support overall was fantastic for both sides.
Wenger was nice enough to play pretty much everyone on the squad sheet, putting in nasri, arshavin, rvp and sagna in on the final 30 minutes. You dont usually expect that from top clubs but Wenger didn’t let us down.
It was interesting seeing Traore, Miyaichi and Jenkinson play about 45 minutes each. Given that they only had about a week to train together, the signs look good. Miyaichi attacked well and really hugged the touchline when he had a chance, and Jenkinson was taller than i expected and performed well overall. Traore seems to me like a better option that Gibbs, but he could definitely add more muscle to his frame (still remember him bouncing off a Drogba run).
ManIOU have already spent about Β£50m and are rumoured to spend another Β£35m on Sneijder? Aren’t they in big time debt???
We aren’t in that category of debt and we hardly do any net spending at all.
I won’t even try to understand Liverfool: Β£35m last Jan. for Carroll (who’s had less than a decent half season in the EPL — for all of you anti-Nasri folk out there), Β£20m for an unproven English youngster Henderson, Β£20m for Downing??? WTF is that club thinking??? Suarez, however, was a steal — that lad is pure class.
If Sneijder is valued at Β£35m then Cesc’s true valuation must be somewhere very close to that. Let’s be honest with ourselves. I love Cesc and think he is slightly better than Sneijder. Just because Chel$ki went bonkers with their Β£50m spent on Torres last Jan. (Jan. transfers tend to be over priced by their inseason nature), we cannot simply say Cesc is worth the same amount as Torres. Remember, strikers are priced above all others, all things being equal, because they score goals.
The witty comeback would be that Torres doesn’t score much lately. True, but he is still a world class striker entering his prime.
And I forgot about Charlie Adam. Liverfool have also almost spent Β£50m this transfer window.
I’m not saying spend like crazy but we’ve done very little net spending this window and I would consider our club to be a “bigger” club than Liverfool at this moment in time.
If Liver can signal their ambition via their spending and I can see it what do our players think of all of this relative activity v our inactivity?
From that point of view I cannot blame Nasri. We should all be concerned what our other top players think also. RvP could be the next stone to drop come next summer.
Steve T – Have a look at today’s arseblog (13th of July) and notice he linked an article by gunnerblog.
I agree with the article totally. I think AW wants to sell Nasri but thinks that if he sells Nasri and Cesc in the same summer then he’s doomed.
What he doesn’t know is that the fans will actually get more pissed off if he doesn’t sell Nasri and he leaves on a free next summer instead of selling that greedy bastard and buying Mata who’s almost an identical replacement (in terms of quality and pricing).
All that makes me (and gunnerblog actually as well) believe AW knows deep down it’d be close to impossible to keep Cesc and therefore hs released those quotes about him needing to be in it and the complete U-turn on the Nasri situation.
SV – With all due respect to Downing, if spending 20M on him showing intent, I’d rather Arsenal don’t show intent.
I’m patient, I trust Arsene will bring some quality players in. He has to, even a blind person could see we need a change in the last stages of the season.
Steve T – I thought we should report them too, but after seeing Bussaca being promoted to Fifa Head of Referees, there’s no point. Barca’s got the whole football world in their pocket.
‘Holic, I sent you an email yesterday but just realized that is was not to the same address as gooneratgoonerholicdotcom – do you still read the one atvirginmediadotcom? Just thought I’d ask, might be rather pointless for me to wait for a reply to a mail that you haven’t seen π
Oh, and I do not think we should report Barce-loan-us-a-pound-please to anyone. Let them keep slinging their mud around, they’ll only get themselves dirty in the process.
Snir. I just think we need to make a decision. All of this ” we want to keep them” and “we hope they stay” talk is garbage for me. Just make a decision. If one or both are going then sell them now and it gives us sufficient time to sort out a replacement..I just think that the longer the uncertainty continues the bigger the negative affect it has on the club.
I find the fact that we are contemplating letting Nasri walk away on a free next year ludicrous. We have put up with certain budget buys because the money is not there. We have missed out on players because we would not up an offer, even if it was only by a small amount. Now we seem prepared to gamble with the possibility of letting him walk away for nothing? Madness to me. I just hope that those at the club know far more than they are obviously letting on.
Very good to finally be able to see the match highlights vs Malaysia XI. I thought the two new boys looked good as did Rambo, Theo, Frimpong and Tommy V. Chamakh was a bit invisible though.
It was only a friendly match, I know and against not particulalry strong opposition but overall, there were some encouraging signs.
Watching the game got me thinking about our current situation and the realisation that we may have completed our summer signings. Don’t shoot me, it’s just an opinion and not one that I’m comfortable with either. But knowing Arsene and Arsenal, I think it’s something we may have to face like it or not.
I firmly believe we need to sign, at the very least, one more experienced player who can also act as an on-pitch leader for the young’uns. A snarling, proven and skilful CB would, IMO, be the best acquisition that Le Boss could make.
But I can just hear AW trotting out the 6 or 7 actual/just like/virtual summer ‘signings’ of:
Gervinho (still to be confirmed?)
Wilkinson
Tommy V
Frimpong
Traore
Nasri
(and maybe Miyachi if he gets an unlikley work permit)
Just thoughts. I hope its abuse of the CMC that’s causing me to think like this but at least if we only sign one more player I’ll be feeling somewhat surprised and excited as opposed to disappointed that we didn’t purchase 3-5 (as originally thought).
An afternoon round for all please Mr. Barman and one for yourself.
See my post above. If Nasri stays this summer, AW could well count him as a virtual signing of Β£20m. It’s crazy and bold (in terms of sending out a message to the players) in equal measures.
Agree regarding the uncertainty factor (I think we all hate it) but maybe things are certain behind the scenes and it’s only us supporters that are exposed to the ‘uncertainty’?
TS. I don’t for one second believe any of that “virtual signing” garbage peddled by the club, or by anyone else for that matter. I certainly would not expect the learned individuals who frequent this bar to be fooled by it either.
In my opinion we still need an experienced keeper, at least one centre half, a holding player and a genuine winger. Those are additions. Any first team players sold would also need to be replaced.
Just to be clear, I wouldn’t expect anyone here to believe it either. I think our views are basically the same. I was expressing an opinion about how things could end up and if they did, I’d be as disappointed as you and would expect a ground-hog season to follow. I don’t think any of us wants that.
TS. If you are right and it does turn out like that then I think there would be uproar. Fans started to turn last season. There would be lynchings if the same old mistakes were made yet again.

HT 0-2, WE’RE GONNA WIN THE LEAGUE!

Silly man.
Trev @ #9: If this continues you may find yourself invited to join DLL. I can assure you that it’s all downhill form there π
Come on Arsenal, sort your technology out. Spend SOME f’ing money on infrastructure, please.
Taken from Marca (via Google translator).. “Wenger wants Cesc to get wet” (?!?!)
And Wenger is currently trying to… “emotionally blackmail the footballer”
It’s going on twitter that the greedy bastard was late to report to the match so on the bench.
What a run and pass by Vela and Rosicky.
Vela with a chip!
Who didn’t see that coming. π
Oh yeah, and chip but we’re used to that from Vela :D.
Is it just me or is Frimpong going forward too much? Maybe he’s getting permission from AW since Denilson is too lazy to join the attack, or too lazy to do anything but stand.
But, I would like Frimpong to be Song’s understudy and not roam THAT much.
Who scored the first two goals?
Ramsey (Pen), Walcott from a beatiful Cesc-esque Ramsey pass.

Denilson is definitely leaving.
Some1 please tell us how Miyaichi performed?
Aj
Looked good.
Rosicky sores for the first time since, eeer, well, eeeer…. ever!?
Get with the times old man
Nice litle kickabout, nothing more, nothing less. Malaysia were lighter then lightweight.
End of the road for Denhilson I think, a substitute being substituted (unless I missed a knock) doesn’t bode well.
I still enjoyed it ,always nice to see the Arsenal win, that new kits going to take some getting used to though.
A round for the bar please guv’
H2H – why on earth was D15 playing anyway (comment holds good for the last 3 years). The sight of him on the pitch just instantly depresses me . . . .
TS, bring me some kind of meds, quickly.
Overall some nice intechanges at times – first game, after all. Chamakh does look in need of a rest though . . .
Nice to see glimpses of the lads, just a whiff of what’s needed to maintain the addiction.
In the flow of worthless rumours, that one caught my attention just because I liked the title “Barcelona Transfer Rumours: Barca to Sign Sanchez but Fabregas Deal is Dead”
http://uk.ibtimes.com/articles/178458/20110712/andoni-zubizarreta-barcelona-cesc-fabregas-arsenal-alexis-sanchez-barcelona-udinese-sevilla-jeffren.htm
some pointers from this game, at least in my opinion
1. cj had a nice debut for me, he’s got pace, attitude, some smart crossing, on the bad note he’s got a poor first touch, he is abit over-enthusiastic, and has missed a couple of passes from ramsey which can be forgiven due to the fact it’s his first game, all in all he seems like an extremely nice buy, this kid can become a great player.
2. armand traore showed again how much skill he’s got, both defensively and offensively, he’s got the pace, the skill, alot of confidence and he’s a great tackler, if he only can evade his over-trying mentality (just like abou diaby) he can make us forget all about clichy, he’s defiantly got more skill then him, i’d take him over gibbs any day.
3. vela again showed he has tons of skill, wrecking havoc all over the oppositions box, he tried nice assists aswell, overall he is far more capable then marouane chamakh.
4. marouane chamakh – another horror show from the player who has in my opinion no place in arsenal, he doesnt have pace, no dribble, he is a mediocre finisher with zero killer instincts, he plays away from the box with his back to goal, and can’t pass, get free, and doesn’t even look to take a shot, a real poor player, i would release him on a free transfer with denilson, almunia and as much as it hurts me to say it rosicky.
The Malaysian Goonerhood were terrific .
+ vermaelen and koscielny showed how they are 10 times better then djourou and squillaci, vermaelen should ware the armband from now on he is simply the complete package.
TS.
The Denhilson Conundrum.
Take it easy lads and have another on me.
Cheers.
While I disagree about Chamakh, I still feel that B52 is a much better player who was wasted on the wings. Give him time up front and the man scores goals and is not afraid of taking on defenders.
Mebbe Wenger saw more of a team player in MC, but is that what you need of a striker?
Cheers H2H , and good luck getting round the anti-smoking laws . No such problems in this Bar π
Sorry, that Denhilson comment wasn answer to Trev, a minor faux pas.
The offerc for drinks still stands though. π
Thanx tabs.
I think I’ve found an angle.
There is plenty of time before the Window closes and patience and confidence in the Emirates backroom boys is the order of the day.
watched the game traore and vela stood out for me hope they can step up this year
After reading today’s arseblog I agree completely with gunnerblog’s view on Nasri and Cesc.
Something’s fishy here.
@Snir: remember it’s all mind games and we’re not privvy to 90% of the facts.
Also you cannot infer any kind of conclusion about the motivation/shape of players in the first friendly pre-season…
I’d say that it’s simply down to not losing both Cesc and Nasri in the same year. It would send out the absolute wrong signals.
4-0 to The Arsenal! Very nice. I like. It does sound like the opposition was only marginally better than my old Sunday league team though.
Matt,
If only people would realise how little we know about the wheeling and dealing BEHIND THE SCENES.
Matt – Where did I infer any conclusions about the motivation/shape of the players?
The French WWC team dominated possession and all the stats, dominated play, were physically smaller than their opposition, had a poor GK, plenty of players with French names, a French male manager, and still found a way to lose the match today. USA 3-1 FRA. Sound familiar anyone?
Four hours after the game, and still I can’t watch anything other than ‘bitesize highlights’ on the new Arsenal Player they have upped my membership by 50% to fund.
Am I expecting something unreasonable?
@Snir: perhaps I misread you but I understood your comment “itβs apparent he ainβt in it” was related to today’s game. If that’s not the case my comment is indeed irrelevant.
@SV: I was torn watching that game but certainly was also a bit swayed by the french “talent”.
Is it me or these gals were dropping to the ground even more easily than italian men? Don’t they give cards for simulation in women football?
Matt. It had nothing to do with today’s game. It’s apparent he ain’t in it from the way he and his advisors acted throughout this summer.
GH – How much is that service if may ask?
Sveden Yah! 1-0 14′.
‘Holic –
Arsenal TV Online (ha,ha) use to lock up regularly when I tried to watch the Fans Forum.
A live stream from Malaysia – you must be joking at any price. I couldn’t even get into Arsenal.com !!
4-0 to the Arsenal?
Football is back baby!
Anyone has the link to the highlights? I was stuck at work today
Click on bitesize highlights and you get ‘content unavailable’.
They couldn’t have fucked up any more spectacularly today. It’s an embarrassment.
SWE 1-1 JAP 20′. Game on!
Swedish women are always worth watching no matter what they do. You could have a PPV channel of them washing dishes and I’m sure it would do well.
This can’t possibly be true, please god.
How can a referee that gave fans the finger get promoted to FIFA’s head of referees (not to mention the fact that he’s a shit referee and apparently has a very low threshold for patience after the whistle!!!)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jul/13/fifa-massimo-busacca-referee?mobile-redirect=false
Evening All,
Not one for Friendlies in Pre Season but one thing I can safely say is Traores about as much use to Arsenal at left back as lube is to Jordan not a hope in hell he will make it as a left back
How’s all the loon cakes anyone for a beer or 3
Bet we’ll all be offered 1 month’s subscription back as a goodwill gesture. (strokes chin doubtfully)
Stingy @58 – i’ve already got that channel, but you won’t get it on Virgin, if you see what i mean.
Chippy, disagree. Traore showed nice glimpses of talent today.
Anyone looking for the highlights can visit http://arsenalist.com/2011/07/13/arsenal-vs-malaysia-xi-highlights-ramsey-penalty-1-0/
Snir @59 – same reason Barstardlona don’t get cited for outrageous tapping up of a player under contract to another club.
Gibbs makes me fell like ordering a Peptobismol.
By the way Snir – get some sleep. You’ll feel better. (smiley face thing, i can’t do from my laptop)
Trev – Type “:)” to get π
How much is that subscription not to see Arsenal play via the official website?
Stingy – thanks, and I believe mine was frozen at Β£3.99 per month, but some did go up around 50% from there. To be honest I didn’t check too carefully ‘cos compared to the season ticket increase it was hardly worth worrying about.
Sounds like there are much better and more reliable streams on the net for free. So why don’t people all go that route?
Speaking of LBs, Sveden has a lovely one π
Gibbs will be fine as long as he can get a run of games injury free but that’s s big if with his current record,
And there’s a Kanadian as the match official! You’d never see that in the men’s game in the WC SFs … unless the sport is on ice.
@Snir: you don’t know that. Himself and his agent have consistently said the player was happy at Arsenal. They’re just pulling a Rooney on us so to speak but nothing indicates that Nasri is not “in it” at this point.
And the French women were poor at defending set pieces and aerial threats.
Hey, did any of our lads ever pose nude for a good cause?
Five hours on, and still no sign of life.
Might as well start on the preview of the next game, which hopefully a professional fucking broadcaster will cover.
No-one at the Arsenal goes further than their Speedoes Stingy π
Let’s go on a march ‘Holic . Our slogan could be ” We demand better Players ” . It might catch on π
GH – Demand a refund and use the free online streams. That’s what Stingy would do π
I’m sure it must be some work experience kid editing it on a 286.
Holic,
You think with the 6% increase they could have found an extra 50p for the meter π
Just read Dennilson the sub got subbed and stormed down the tunnel to a chorus of boos must have reminded him of Home π
Just a question why does every cunt in Football think they have the right to talk about Arsenal, Yes Xabi,Fergie I’m looking at you.
Chippy – That’s because Xavi has BarΓ§a DNA and Old Red Nose has whiskey DNA.
If I am that little fella from Twin Peaks I’d say: “Wow, Arsene, Wow! Let’s Rock!”
But I’m not, so I say: “Arsene, Wow, Arsene! Rock…Let’s!”
Ryo and Carl were quite good and Theo keeps forgetting that he’s faster then the ball.
Reeeeb, Reeeeb, esaelp!
Snir,
Wasn’t that ref the one who sent off RvP for shooting the ball inside a second after blowing the whishtle at the Shit Camp against Farca?? I was expecting some good things on his way but this is little OTT…
Indiagooner – it is! And apart from the RvP incident he’s known in Switzerland as the ref who gave fans the finger!
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_eVOsvi7Tokc/Srjwb8Y9cVI/AAAAAAAAC5k/kVBn6WmgiIY/busacca.jpg
He isn’t in it. He’s after some $$$, that’s it.
So for nearly six hours now the game has been ‘coming soon’.
Sorry all. No report now π
Snir – But after going six years and going without silver Nasri has every right to say it’s about ambition too.
Btw, Busacca, although shit in the 2nd leg at Barça this past year did do the 2009 UCL Final.
And Rooney played the ‘ambition card’ in his negotiations too.
Dear Arsenal Media
Seven hours and …
(Familiar face at 20 seconds)
Any Ladyboys in the japanese ranks Nas , and if so , is this the reason for their success ?
Stingy – just trying out your piece of advice “:)”
Trev , its kolon , dash , close bracket
Well i got “100”, but no smiley with a yellow box.
You sure you don’t work for Arsenal Player Stingy ? π
tabs – you can be relied on for everything! Humour, technical advice, incisive serious comment – I had actually just tried adding the dash “nose” anyway, but cheers. Americans, eh!?
Do you know how to do the “winky” one Tabs – that’s the “eye” thingy, by the way – nothing to do with Speedos.
yep , saw you mastered it above .
I find Stingy a very good benchmark – when i find myself understanding the many points he makes , I know I’ve gone too hard at the CMC and it’s time for bed π
Only joking , if you’re lurking Stingy .
No idea Trev , only mastered the Smiley a few weeks ago myself .
It’s now tomorrow, and still the whole game is ‘coming soon’
I so wanted to see it. Won’t now. I’m off on holiday on Friday.
Tabs, If they are ladyboys they are mostly very short ones. The opposite of platform heels, perhaps?
Do you want me to write you a report ‘Holic ? I’ve heard Wolfgang was able to watch the game before being arrested π
Go for it TaBS. I’ve only seen the highlights. Can’t go on that alone, wouldn’t be fair.
Email gooneratgoonerholicdotcom
Standard fee is pint of Guinness when finally we all get together π
I might even buy you one back π
Don’t let mere height fool you Nas , I’ve heard these Ladyboys will ” stoop ” to any lengths to ensnare their victims . Plastic Surgery is so extreme these days some even go so far as to be cut off at the knees . I’m not sure , however , whether this procedure aids or abets their footballing skills π
Trev – When I say “type” followed by the quotation marks you are only supposed to type what is inside the quotation marks π For example:
For π type “:)”
For π type “;)”
For π type “:(”
Etc.
Snir – Agree to disagree. I’ll have your drink if you’re not going to have it π
Will try and get you something tomorrow . π
Good man. π
Trev – What part of the States do you perform your voodoo in? :/
I guess that one in #116 doesn’t work. Oh well.
Thinking about it, I cannot recall the last time I did not catch all 90 mins of a game. Makes you appreciate the value of the illegal streams.
If only I could have got away with one at work today…
The smileys are whatever is allowed in WordPress, SV. I don’t control what is or isn’t permitted.
I know , ‘Holic , how did we cope before internet and illegal TV broadcast in pubs ? Oh yes … I know … Bryan Butler and Peter Jones sending me into near fatal heart attack mode on a fortnightly basis
Liverphool spend another Β£20m. This time on Stuart Downing. I guess that officially takes him off of our shopping list … if he ever was on it.
Where’s Liver getting all their cabbage from? Aren’t they greatly in debt?
Downing was only ever wanted by us according to his agent, pumping the scunts fee all along.
Parasite.
I suppose that’s what those damn agents are for GH. The more they can pimp from the clubs the greater their own takeaway.
Rooney had a hair transplant? Really? He might consider a refund also for “alleged services” not fully rendured.
SV – we always agree to disagree! π
Oh well, at least AW agrees with me re Barca. π
And by the way it’s “:\” not “:/”, for example – :\
Oh well… I was sure it worked for me before… Disregard the last sentence.
SG,
Yes, we always agree to disagree because you spend most of your time talking and little time drinking whilst I do vice versa π Since you’re not touching your drink I’ll take it off your hands.
Oh bugger this smiley nonsense ;-(
So LFC spend more for Downing than the Manc bastards spend on Young? And for me, Young is a much better player.
All this talk about hair today. Rooney with the hair transplant (although it doesn’t really look it) and Neymar wearing a coonskin cap.
Barman, a Peptobismol please.
If Liver can signal their ambition via their spending and I can see it what do our players think of all of this relative activity v our inactivity?
From that point of view I cannot blame Nasri. We should all be concerned what our other top players think also. RvP could be the next stone to drop come next summer.
Slippery slope π
SPEND SOME FUCKING MONEY!!!!
JKC!!!
‘Holic , you have mail at the address given at 110 π
Afternoon All,
Very good to finally be able to see the match highlights vs Malaysia XI.
Steve T @ #145
See my post above. If Nasri stays this summer, AW could well count him as a virtual signing of Β£20m. It’s crazy and bold (in terms of sending out a message to the players) in equal measures.
Agree regarding the uncertainty factor (I think we all hate it) but maybe things are certain behind the scenes and it’s only us supporters that are exposed to the ‘uncertainty’?
Lars @ #142
I have responded to you both.
Just my opinion.
Steve T @ #149,
Just to be clear, I wouldn’t expect anyone here to believe it either.
TS – you’re showing signs of strain. Open the cookie jar π
