Real Live Football – At Last
Jul 13th, 2012 by 'holic
So the weekend has arrived. The weekend my caring, sharing neighbour used to buy us tickets at Barnet for the customary annual look at a strange mixture of non-internationals, juniors, and the occasional new signing. I will miss the trip to Underhill. Instead we are off to Southampton for a triangular Saturday evening tournament.
Newly promoted Southampton will kick the tournament off with a 45 minute fixture against Anderlecht. After the Olympic torch pays a fleeting visit to the stadium we will play Anderlecht for our first half before winding up the tournament with 45 minutes against the hosts.
Although we will not be fielding any of the internationals who featured at the Euros this summer, on account of the fact that those who are coming back aren’t due until next week, it is still good to get a glimpse of some of the potential Young Guns alongside the likes of Gervinho, Andre Santos, and Johan Djourou.
Now given that Anderlecht normally play in a purple and white strip, and the Saints in red and white stripes, it is a distinct possibility those going may get to see both the Bertie Bassett, and the Dennis the Menace new kits. What can I say? How lucky are you… (I would imagine Anderlecht will wear an away strip to save quick changes and we will be in the purple hoops throughout.)
Those of my age will welcome meeting the Belgian champions again. No old Gooners will ever forget ending a seventeen year trophy drought against Anderlecht in the European Fairs Cup Final of 1970. Down 3-0 in the away leg, we were thrown a lifeline from a teenage Ray Kennedy with a last gasp headed away goal. On a memorable Highbury night, possibly THE most memorable, we battered a very good Belgian side 3-0 in the return in front of a packed, and I mean packed, Highbury crowd.
Strangely I cannot find any record of a live broadcast or stream. If anybody knows differently I know you lot will. Share it with us in the drinks. Thanks.
If you are off to St Marys have a cracking evening. I’m sure it will be fun.
It isn’t Barnet though, is it? π

First?
Esso, if you are around. Were you at Brighton when we played them the opening day of the season when they came up? Late 70’s I think. Had a Friday night down there and kipped in the tunnels under the beach a la Quadrophenia. Smelly old night that was!
Always a good day at the old Goldstone π
Not exactly the real deal ,Now is it?
So glad we are back in action. I’m fed up with hearing about John Terry.
I’m around mate. No I was n’t. Did n’t get ‘pwopah nawty’ till the 80’s (if ever!). But that FA Cup day in 87 was magnifico for various reasons. Think you’re referring to 79/80 season (could be 80/81).
Anyway mate, great post as ever. Cant wait to see you again.
I LOVE TRACEY THORN.
Really pumped to watched it, but slightly devastated that it won’t be live on Arsenal player. Just bought tickets to the Arsenal/Cologne match, which will be my first Arsenal experience (being Canadian throws a bit of a wrench into the plans to go regularly). Anyone else making the trip?
Real (well, almost) footie returns tomorrow! Doesn’t seem to be on tv in any way, shape or form, though π
Harsh George.
After all the serious stuff that has been going on pre-season games will provide temporary relief.
Won’t read too much into them, but great to see some Arsenal action again.
No streams for tomorrow I guess?
Arsenal v anderlecht on arsenal player if you are a member
Here you are, ‘Holic: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=arsenal%20vs%20anderlecht%201970&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CFsQtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DMbCnRr3wbPg&ei=gHUAUJzBK-Pd0QHfuqDFBw&usg=AFQjCNEbO73LwWEw-JMIJp4tYELVEavlOA
well Holic,I will wait until the international players are back and we see the formation a personnel involved before I get too excited.
But I take your point .YIPEE footy’s back
This one also has the Ray Kennedy goal in Holland, plus some interviews with legends. Poignant comments from Frank McLintock and Bob Wilson about how important breaking a 17-year trophy drought was for that team to get the confidence to kick on to greater heights.
http://veoh-117.vo.llnwd.net/Vpreviews/i/75a883d392c72e5ea1b029c556d655f10d0bc4cf.mp4?e=1342222214&ri=5000&rs=90&h=1ff59ce05be4c3bbbdf3d9b0a457d225
McLintock says there were 55,000 at Highbury that night. Packed indeed. And the state of the pitch looks like a ploughed field compared to the Ems. Young players today…
Oops,
– Holland
+ Belgium
The Fairs victory was a magnificent night and saw the rebirth of the club.Without it we would never have seen the double triumph the year after. Frank McLintock told me that Mulder the Anderlecht striker played better against him in the first leg than anyone else he can ever remember- and he played against Cruyff in the semi- final!
Memories of our victory are still incredibly vivid.Kelly’s early goal,Mcnab going down the left wing and putting a great cross onto the head of Big Raddy and as it bounced into the net I felt for the first time we would win- and then seconds later Jon Sammels bouncing one in off the post.As that went in I was carried down about twenty steps in the North Bank as you used to be in those days. Sheer delirium and one of the sort of nights we desperately need at the Emirates to suffuse the stadium with glory. The Emirates needs to be charged with that sort of emotion.
And for those who have only known the drivel dished up by today’s TV, Brian Moore was a prince among commentators, a realm in which Peter Jones was king.
NBN @ 11, quality link π
I don’t think any of our matches are gonna be on Arsenal Player as Live, no mention of it on the Article on .com
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/arsenal-name-youthful-squad-for-memorial-cup
And it looks like Ivan Gazidis is now on Twitter, just saying like π
https://twitter.com/IvanG_Arsenal
Does anyone else think that arsenal.com posting a theo video today is a sign that he will sign a new contract when he gets back from his hols?
Had a bizarre De Lorean experience this afternoon.
I got an update from my Arsenal App on the zPod, telling me that Arsenal had beaten Anderlecht 1-0. Anyone else see the same?
Just waiting on tomorrow night’s lottery numbers arriving, then I’m in Club Level for the whole of next season.
Feck, I may even holiday in Sweden. π
Oh what memories Holic. forgive me if I repeat myself but i went to both games.
We flew out of Luton and I sat next to Jack Kelsey and the return flight and ticket was Β£12.00. Ray Kennedy was a fledging and gave us that crucial away goal.
The return leg will live long in my mind. What a bog of a pitch but we made it and several of us ran onto the pitch at the end. What happened the following year is history.
@ 19
Not really.
If I get a newsflash from the future, I will let you know. π
My main memory of that Fairs Cup Final is of a transfer set that I think was produced by Sugar Smacks. Not sure it was them, but there definitely was one of those, similar to the Star Trek ones Sugar Smacks did. A picture on the packet that you had rub down transfers to put on it, along with a short text about the game. I need to Google now…
@15 Thundertinygooner
Love ya mate. It will happen. Like 97-98 was out of the blue for me, and then the feeling just grew and grew and grew……. It will happen. People like you ( and me and ‘holic and many many others) deserve it. IT WILL HAPPEN!
almelal: don’t think we can read too much into a video being put up. Well, unless the video said “I’ve signed a new contract” of course π
This is the happy house-weβre happy here in the happy house. to forget ourselves-and pretend allβs well there is no hell.
It is good to see the Arse return to the field albeit with only a sprinkling of the first team squad and only a hint of things to come. Infinitely preferable to transfer speculation.
BTW Holic, in answer to your question a couple of days back, Stewarts Cream of the Barley is still available (Β£17 in Gordon & McPhail in Elgin). However I suspect your memory of it is a better thing to savour and that your palate has ‘moved on’! A bit like going back to an old GF.
The transfer set was Letraset Soccer Action Replay set number 16 from 1972. What an old bastard I am…
Heh, true about Gazidis Wind. And looks like he opened twitter couple of hours ago. General instructions and directive from The Board, or his own will? Whatever.
What was interesting for me is to see who he follows, what he reads, what sort of info from the web he gets when drinking his morning coffee (I guess he gets everything, but what is his priority). So I bothered to check that.
Our players like Giroud, Djorou, TGSTEL formerly known as Bentner, Santos, Van Persie (i guess topic of their tweets is “how I spend my summer holidays and when”…
Some former players like Fabregas, Pires, Parlour, Benayoun…
Usual suspects as Philippe Auclair or Gary Neville…
Some blogs like Swiss Rumble, Arseblog, Jamie Sanderson (I know that he closed the blog) and………… LE GROVE?
Some interesting names out there.
Wot? no chevrons! I’ve been sat all on my own in the wrong bar for the last two-and-a-half hours. Pah! Off to read the new post.
Zico,
Exactly the same experience. Do you think there may be some Fife devilry at work here? Will be in the Kingdom onThursday 19. Pint in Auchterchoochty? Seem to recall next shout is yours. TABS’ is a haddock.
@20 Zico
I had the same experience. We were simultaneously leading 1-0 against both Anderlecht and Southampton. Thought it might be the kids at a parallel tournament rather than a message from the future or a leaked stitch-up.
The Man!
Good to see you BtM.
As a co-owner in Stirling Albion I am waiting for my invite into the Ibrox boardroom this season. I will of course extend the invitation should it arrive π
Evening bath.
My tastebuds are definitely changing. Whisper it softly, but common or garden Bells mmust have changed. I used to find it peppery and bitter back in the day, but quite enjoy a cheap drop these days.
Could it be 35 years of fags finally freeing my tastebuds five years after my last puff?
Re the phantom results I had 1- 0 wins posted against both Southampton and Anderlecht. So bizarre was it I checked the games hadn’t been moved forward. How spooky was that?
Is Claus Lundekvam back at Southampton. Didn’t Grobellaar play for them too?
Not at all convinced that the Gazidis account is legit. He just replied to a tweet by Piers fucking Morgan…
It could very well be that. However there have clearly Been some strategic alterations to the formulae for several malts recently and it’s quite likely they will have made the same decisions about blends.
Btw I found Stewarts Cream of the Barley on sale in Elgin (Β£17).
Not sure I want to try it again that much, bath π
love ig’s tweet about vacation…not on, “contrary to reports being given out by various sources.”
and, on whisky, i am happy: a friend who owes me money is leaving today for ireland, and i have asked him to return with some green spot and redbreast 15, rather than the coin. not available (easily) in the oosssaaa, perfect for an early morning tipple during the games of the new season.
My favourite Time Lord @ 31
If you are anywhere near the Capital, or the Seat of Kings on Thursday the beers are most certainly on me.
Auchterwhatsit would mean I would probably have to drive, which would mean I would have to sit and watch you drink alone!
Co-ordinates set for a 24 hour visit only?
Keep me posted, maestro.
Nytol. Love you all.
You lot are the mutts.
Thank you.
Thundertiny @15 –
We must have passed each other on that famous night, flying down and scrambling back up the North Bank, hugging mates and strangers alike.
Mayhem and joy. What a night !
great to be back in the saddle…lets hope this year we can produce some good players…and sell them at a high price so that we can be good little boys and show kroenke just how good we are at filling up his bank account…
and how exciting isnt it to see if we can hang on to fourth..i hope we can…its all about ambition π
great days to be a Gooner thats for sure..
The scene:
A rambling Scottish country pile, where Lord Zico of The Gobbles is standing panic stricken in the TV room.
The following scene has just played out and explains Zico’s heightened state.
As a change from his usual magazine collection, Zico had been watching Babestation TV. Grabbing the phone he dialled the on-screen number and the curvy gyrating babe answered.
Curvy, naked babe: “Hello sexy, what would you like me to do ?”
Zico: “Just hide for christ’s sake ! Roxette’s coming and I can’t find the sodding remote !”
Trev, π
Fuck Roxette and the other naysayers. Another football season is almost upon us and a positive attitude is required by all. Come on Arsenal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aaron Ramsey up or out this season?
Can Sagna recover from his 2nd broken leg, and if not can Jenkinson step in?
Trev @ 46, π
I hope the matches eventually become available on the official website. Need some red and white (and obsidian??) action to get the taste of “justice” out of my mouth
I’d like to implore all Gooners to rally passionately behind Arsene this season. He has done a majestic job in keeping our club competitive despite our financial limitations relative to the petro clubs.
Hail “Le Boss”. What a genius you are! Let’s rally behind Arsene and the team this season Gooners. All the best. Gunners 4 Life.
Heh @ 46
The only bit that bears any resemblance to real life is the “rambling” bit and an inability to find the remote.
It’s hard to do so when you’re watching Babestation in those outsize 3D glasses. 8)
Heh@Trev@46!
So footie returns today – expect several bloggers and Twitter twats to immediately proclaim the massive imminent failure of various players by about 6.46 tonight when it turns out we didn’t win the coin toss for the kick-off.
If we fail to win the toss, then we must get the pitchforks out NOW to save our season!
A failure to win the toss will prove (a) Arsene has lost the dressing room (b) Arsene has lost in his struggle with the board to loosen the purse-strings and/or (c) Arsene has lost the plot.
Our ambition for the season must be to win every toss.
Oi! @ 55
Thought you were off to the pub for six weeks?
Hmm, how did a four-week holiday mostly spent at home turn into a six-week binge down the boozer? π
@56: You tell it like it is, man!
(though I am going down the pub later today, that much is true…)
@ 58
Lightweight π
Lightweight? Well, I have been working out a bit lately and lost about ten pounds so far. And I managed to shed some weight too, by the way.
Oh, look – there’s my coat!
Not only did the Arsenal app say we won 1-0 against Southampton, but when I inspected the minute to minute it was Southampton that scored against us and the description red “Unlucky Arsenal.”
That WAS really strange.
Regarding the games (if they haven’t yet been played) Pravda says:
“There is also the chance to see some of the Clubβs rising stars in action, such as Dutch midfielder Kyle Ebecilio, exciting Swedish teenager Kristoffer Olsson and German star Thomas Eisfeld.”
It’s kind of nice to see a Swede in Arsenal again, and I hope he will do well (I’ve also always had a bit of a soft spot for IFK NorrkΓΆping, his old team). Also, Liam Brady said to the player’s agent that swedish players just aren’t good enough when he was asked if he wanted to take a look at him, and I guess there is quite a bit of truth in that, but it would be nice to prove him wrong with this one. Now, Olsson WAS a United-fan when younger but hopefully we’ll get that out of his system quickly.
Where was I going with this?
Oh.
Right. “German star Thomas Eisfeld”?! I’m comfortable with “rising star”, or “talent” pretty much everything, but “star”? I’d say that a player without a wikipedia-article hardly can’t be called a star. The word kind of implies quite a lot more than skill.
Heh @ 56 I’m Stoned.
Wish I was. Have had to pack it up; two weeks without a puff now, just starting to normalise. I’m certainly drinking more! Might have to curb that as well. What a fucking life!
You won’t find me on Wikipedia, Toby, but you will find that I have a massive stellar reputation π
Indeed @65 (best to humour him, chuckling). Esso @ various places, truly would like to buy you a drink…before you give that up as well. Good day Holic and holics. Still catching up on the drinks…our Woj in pink (love it !), but seriously like the purple. As for the round robin, why not at least have it on the radio…tough luck we don’t get to see it, should be very entertaining. And from last post, you talked about Arsene looking frail, drawn…afraid I agree. @53, how true, how true. Anyway, starting to ramble…gosh darn it, just wish I could be at the game, it’s so exciting, we’re getting closer and closer now, yea!!! Have a great day gooners, where ever you are…and for those having a tough time, just remember it will get better…
Abb – we do NOT love Woj in PINK !!
This game is supposed to be for MEN ! And Wolfie. π
Toby@63: not having played a first-team game would also disqualify anyone from being a star.
We’ll drink a drink a drink
To Woj the pink the pink the pink
The saviour of the Gooner race
For he defended against all comers
Most efficacious in every case
Yay! Football! Sort of!
@ 69 NBN
ha ha ha ha – lovely!
And welcome, abb, to the ranks of kit-lovers and admirers of Chesney in hot pink – it suits him, doesn’t it?
PRE-SEASON ON PLAYER
Watch pre-season LIVE on Arsenal Player
We’ll bring you all the best coverage of Arsenal’s tour with daily bulletins and LIVE video from all the games
Except the Marcus Liebherr Cup, obviously. Clips and highlights on the site tomorrow.
@ 40 Scruzgooner
Is your friend your bitch now cos he owes you money?
@ 55 Lars and 56 I’m Stoned
ha ha ha
I love those drinks by Lars and I’m Stoned!
Any word on whether or not we can see the games live holics?
Not from Arsenal.com that is?
Btw, you guys heard that Stuart Robson got sacked?
@ 72 Cannons of Rhetoric
Ahem. Please see 71.
Rumours now saying that Man City are so desperate to get rid of Adebayor that they will subsidise his wages at Spurs even after he has signed for them permanently. If that is true then that is just a fucking joke. And surely there must be a rule preventing such a thing?
Dr F @ 65
Heh, fair enough Dr F, but I’d still say that proves my point that having a stellar reputation isn’t just down to having actual skill, but rather much down to having a… let’s call it a colourful personality. :p
NBN @ 68
I’d say. I have no problem with us buying unproven players, but I’d rather we didn’t buy unproven players and then call them stars before they even play a game at senior level. Perhaps this is a case of much ado about nothing from me, but little things like this really can get me worked up. Oh well.
CoR @ 73
He did? Can’t say I mind that. In fact, this might make the pre-season games more enjoyable. I had no problem with Robson when he was on our players backs when he was right, but most of the time he was just seeing mistakes that just weren’t there, banging on about them.
Happy Bastille Day, any French bar-lurkers.
Lars,
if there isn’t there surly must be one very very soon, because that might well become commonplace if not. What is the world coming to…
Maybe it’s just a rumour, or a misunderstanding of some other financial arrangement? My instinct is that that would cause difficulties for both sets of accounts – how would it be classified.
That’s my guess as well FG. I guess they can’t be paying for his wages, strictly speaking, but of course, they could give them the player for free, and in effect leave money for the wages or some more complicated version of that arrangement.
Speaking of, can a football give gifts to other football clubs that will benefit their football? A team that plays in the same division? Could we give Sunderland ten million quid? Or a player of that worth? Couldn’t that be seen as buying a favour? I mean, what would happen if we gave Sunderland Theo Walcott and we then proceeded to win the double over them this year with scores like 3-0 and 4-0. Would that be looked in to?
Are there any rules that says that football players must be sold for market prices?
Holic’s, holic’s:
“Ganso doesn’t want to play for Santos anymore,” vice-president Odilio Rodrigues told Lancenet. “We learned that from the club’s president Luis Alvaro last Thursday.
If we can add this guy to our already excellent midfield, then we`re up there with the best of them. No reason for anybody to leave, footballistically-wise at least π
Make it happen holics’.
Re: I’m Stoned @56: I couldn’t agree more. About what you said, I mean. π
Toss that coin, you fucking bought and sold referee!
@73 – posted that some days ago CoR
Said on radio he had left because of his strong opinions.
Do keep up old chap. π
And in Howard Webb kit news,

FG @ 77 Merci a toi
AKA ta very much
any news / links on todays matches please?
It seems the League Cup will have a new corporate sponsor this year, but I will be trying my best to disremember both the old and new corporate sponsors in favor of calling it by its real name, i.e., the League Cup. I hope we can win the League Cup after a series of outstanding performances at the Grove.
Yet another reason to support Real Betis, as if one were needed.
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/joel-campbell-joins-real-betis-on-loan
Gervinho Djourou Giroud said six times fast. Not easily done. π
We may be a goal down but did we win the toss?
I’ve totally given up trying to understand what is happening with the games tonight after both games being played yesterday, one Southampton player scoring against Arsenal but the goal still being attributed to Arsenal and Persie starting. As someone previously mentioned, it’s DeLorianesque. My head hurts.
So, question being, are we really a goal down Zico. Really?
Ah, so it was Southampton who were one down……
The toss still there to be won : neutral:
toby,
I’m just waiting on the results from 18th August coming through on my zPod. It will keep my travel costs down π
fg@74, uh, no.
lovely lukas: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story/_/id/1124097/bidwell:-interview-with-arsenal-striker-lukas-podolski?cc=5901
doh!, @71.
How annoying not to be able to watch this poxy tournament.
This is a good stream
http://www.fototime.com/4A6CBFE27ABF13D/orig.gif
‘Holic. That was the most head-of-the-nail thing you’ve ever said. I couldn’t care one bit about the games tonight, but in some way I really really really want to just see the team (whichever team we have on!) kick the ball for a bit.
I’m bloody following the twitter updates about a 45-min football game that counts for nothing. I think I’m starting to understand why we all are called “‘holics”
“Anderlecht have been the brighter here so far, and have had a goal ruled out for offside. Arsenal yet to threaten 0-0 (12) βͺ#AFCvAND⬔
Self-assist
And a yellow
I had a great curler all ready for the pass that never came.
I’ll forgive you after the link to the lovely stream.
Ah, what the heck, here’s the curler anyway:
http://youtu.be/pwwyjgLckMg
I’m contemplating two yellows there lurky…
I remember that one from Ljunberg, Toby, just like it happened yesterday.
That was beautiful stream, and live too, dont you think π
See you on court than, Holic:)
When that cunt Terry is innocent…
Toby, what could have been…
Lurky, that stream, if not so calming, would have pissed me off! π
Hi all. Hoping we lift that trophy!
Tea, please. I’m still waking up.
Arsenal one up, Lansbury.
So Lansbury notches the first of the season for us. After that 1-4 game against Spurs he’s absolutely earned it.
That boy scores when he wants. And he is a midfielder! Wonder what else should he do to get a chance.
nice, good one henri! i hope he can get in the team, i always like it when there is a henry at arsenal.
Trying to post link to goal, wont let me;
http://youtu.be/wLME1FJfYtI
Well it has now.
Great play from Jenks, I say.
cheers, esso!
And we’re actually not playing in that purple shite. Yet.
This looks like a win-win combination

Not fucking touching that.
Why do they call this a cup?
http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/javaImages/18/7a/0,,10280~11041304,00.jpg
Handsome ,but certainly more of a trophy than a cup
Evening all, hooray, Gunners 1-0 over Belgium team and our very own JD as cap (Fun, ain’t that something!). Killing me not to see what is going on at the mo…Lurky, very cruel @ 96 (you got me good)…back to checking the tweets…
This is so freaky, feel like I’m in the ‘Twilight Zone’…so Gervinho scores, tying it up, right?!
Dunnoe why I keep having trouble posting links here;
http://youtu.be/hh5tlpWVxNA
It’s penalties!
Apparently we have won tournament regardless of who wins penalty shoot-out.
Still. IT’S PENALTIES!
Santos scores the first for us! He is probably celebrating like he won the league, he’s a happy fella that one.
Is anyone really nervous enough to miss a penalty? Remember, even their youngsters are very good footballers and don’t tend to miss the target from that range. This can go on.
Heh, curse of the commentator. Congratulations Saints.
Lost 5-4 on penalties.
What a great goal by Gervinho, and he did well to keep it in play before that final shot. Nice footwork, gonna call him twinkle toes just for tonite. Sounds like Santos was enjoying himself as well (smiling). Promising start to the new season, all in all.
Really nice goal from Gervinho, I agree abb. I rate him very much. This is going to be his season.
Hi Lurky. So St Mary’s loses to Anderlecht 0-1. We beat Ander 1-0 and tie St Mary’s 1-1 and lose on pens but claim our first cup win. Sorry have to work this out on paper…you should see me when I tried taking some Mensa questions on line (not pretty, but darn amusing).
Both goals were nicely worked, I think that this could be Gervs season too, you don’t become best goalscorer in France without having some actual skill and he has plenty.
I am sure that once he gets his confidence high enough he will be terrorizing defenses throughout the league. Even last season he was brilliant chaos maker, just lacking composure for his final touches. The thought about Arsene opting for different system in some matches, I suppose with Giroud up front, Gerv on the left, Feo on the right and Poldi/Ox under Giroud makes me grin.
I dont know why but even after RvP news I am still very much excited about season to come and I have gut feeling that this is going to be our year.
So, I’ve been out, but from what I can gather, the score was Anderlecht 0, Arsenal 1, the very scoreline that was transmitted to my zPod more than 24 hours in advance?
Where’s Mulder?
Hey Zico, pretty weird indeed. Eandy, between our youth, Poldi, Giroud, etc., hard not to be excited. If RVP goes to play for ‘the old lady’, I still can cheer him on then (big IF). Nite all.
Well RvP in Juve > RvP anywhere in PL but us π
Looking forward to seeing the highlights on Player later today π
Was out all day so had no chance to watch the match or follow it effectively, popped on twitter to see we had beaten Anderlecht and drawn to So’ton while losing on penalties, but still winning & lifting the trophy!
Its a funny old game… π
And cheeky lurky @ 99/100;) That won’t stand outside of pre-season, watch it mate π
After 8 weeks away I wanted to say hello….been reading as always ‘holic…just not much to say unless we are playing matches. Really hoping Gervinho settles properly this season….do we have African Cup of Nations again?
New shirts look less awful on a player…..at a distance…with a hangover
Itv 4. The Big Match revisited from 1983. Boro Arsenal up in a minute or so. Could be worth a watch.
Pub. Beers. Home. Now. Bed.
Everton one up against the Spuds. Andy King. Nice strike.
Blimey. Garth Crooks seems to have lost about 6 stone.
2 nil. Sharpe. It even funny watching retro Spuds.
Gooners on in green and blue. Petrovic to woodcock to Rix and we are one up on a bog.
1 all. Bollocks. Big Pat nowhere. Replay at Highbury apparently.
Arsenal 2012 now about to appear on sky sports news. It’s a true goonerfest from different generations tonight.
Nice finish from Flipper.
Nice way to kick-start the season.
What do you all think should the club decide about Miquel and Lansbury? Miquel I think has shown all the correct signs up until now and a long term commitment on his Arsenal career would eventually pay off. I think he would be a great player a few years from now. He could go out on his first loan stint this year. This may be Lansbury’s make-or-break season for Arsenal. If he goes out on loan again next year might be too late for him.
Any idea why Ryo is not available now? Injured or is he in Japanese Olympics squad?
Podolski speaking positive and measured words : http://sports.yahoo.com/news/podolski-hopeful-van-persie-stay-161500900–sow.html .
I like the desire for self-improvement
His reputation has been built on improving players and if he can help me take my game up a notch or two I’ll be delighted. Back home in Germany, football people think very highly of Arsene Wenger. They listen to what he has to say and admire his achievements.
So we took the silverware, but what about the coin tosses? On the subject of corrupt refereeing, I’ll be quite suspicious this season if the ‘holic pound is laid more than 60% of the time in favor of, or against, Arsenal winning the coin toss. π
Took off for a couple of days at the beach on Thursday – power cut as we left so could not announce my departure. Just got back. Had a great time and had some wonderful food with friends. Hope you lot have been behaving yourselves…
Nice on Trev – now to read the rest π
GoonerTerry, You didn’t mention that it was a Jamaican beach, which I assume it was, and which makes me all the more envious. But I am going on a brief holiday within Minnesota next week and am looking forward to it on my more modest scale of expectations. π
Bluefields, Jamaica 8thBall. We decided to spread our breaks this year into 3 or 4 ‘mini’ breaks throughout the summer holidays. We also decided to “buy Jamaican” and stay at home this year. Must say its nice to get away for bit at times. Enjoy yours when it comes…
12:04 Jamaica time and can’t stay awake any longer… see ya night owls later..

sogni d’oro, gt. dream dreams of silverware in red and white…
Fairs cup 2nd leg, my first trophy I saw Arsenal lift.
Absolutely fantastic night, no idea what the crowd figure was especially as the guy who took our money let myself and my mate in for the price of one and a half. If they all were doing that then 60k plus at Highbury easy.
Spent most of the first half discussing if 2-0 would be enough, (the away goals rule was new to us) but when number 3 went in we couldn’t have cared less.
It feels good going onto Pravda and seeing a big pic saying “Winners” π
I want to keep Lansbury and Bartley this season. Let’s put the academy graduates to use and win a quadruple!
Morning all,
Will watch last nights events when they are posted on .com later today before posting the first marvellous report of our record-breaking new season π
Today I shall mostly be avoiding beer and other forms of alcoholic beverages.
*hands over the banana to Lars for the monkey which is sitting on his neck* May it be appeased and gone as soon as possible:)
Did somebody say “buy Jamaican”?
Don’t mind if I do. π π π
Welcome back Gooner Terry (waves ‘hi’). Good Sunday everyone. Will speak softly cause Lars has a hangover (tisk, tisk). Game pics out now, young gunners look very lively! Holic, looking forward to your ‘take’ on how our lads did. Robin to resume training on Monday unless you know what occurs (damm City). Have to say though, can’t help but feel very optimistic about the upcoming season (see @ 147), Poldi really seems to be a genuinely goodfella. The verminator has been prominant in AFC’s pic gallery this week, well deserved! Enjoy the day holics, 8ball have an awesome time mate!
GT. On Wednesday will be headed for a brief sojourn to northern Minnesota, to the source of the mighty Mississippi River in an effort to recover some of the youthful power and fluidity that has drained away over recent years. If in four days time I am successful in recovering a modicum of said power and fluidity I will notify Gazidis who I assume will be assessing the effect of elevated levels of Malaysian heat and humidity on the bone mass index of our players, and possibly looking for an alternative destination for Arsenal’s summer travels. π
… although judging by the last two paragraphs of this article, it is not Gazidis who needs to be persuaded to bring Arsenal to North America:

Ferdinand’s explanation seems tailored to Arsenal fans considering Cashley’s vulnerability to being labelled a fake. π

Holics,
Need some recommendation(s)?
Has anyone used fox soccer2go? Do they show Arsenal games live or is it delayed?
Are there any other paid online streaming services available that are good wrt Arsenal?
Recently moved to a temporary accommodation and dont have cable – hence asking around.
Thank you in advance.
