Exit Poll At Pompey
May 11th, 2007 by 'holic
It only seems like yesterday, doesn’t it. We all piled into the Grove for the Bergkamp testimonial and prepared for a season of promise. Yet on Sunday the curtain comes down at Portsmouth.
Two victories over United, three over Liverpool, and Tottenham humbled on their first two visits to our new home. It hasn’t been all bad, but I suspect most of us will not be sorry to see the final act of a modern day tragedy.
It’s a bit early for the team news but the recently sidelined Rosicky and Ljungberg must remain concerns, along with Denilson who limped out of the Chelsea contest last week.
That probably means a last (?) chance for Baptista to partner Ade up front and score the goals we hoped he would grab when we finally secured him on loan last summer.
Sadly we won’t be seeing Sol Campbell, ruled out of the Pompey line-up by injury, but Lauren and Kanu could well face their old club. Tony Adams may be making his final contribution as Harry Redknapp’s right-hand man at Fratton Park.
Referee Graham Poll is making his final appearance, the second FIFA official to retire prematurely after taking charge of a Chelsea fixture. Mmm! I cannot pretend he is a favourite of mine, and rumours that he is moving into television come as no surprise. I’m sure the travelling Gooners will remember Blackburn this season and afford him the appropriate send-off!
The hosts have a slim outside chance of a UEFA Cup berth but I am tempted to trot down to William Hill in the morning to repeat the bet that has yielded a couple of tasty pay-outs lately. Home team to be leading at half-time, match to end all-square. We shall see.
Next week the blogging summer of transfer rumour and takeover intrigue will start in earnest. We have had an early start with Arsene Wenger confirming this morning the Arseblog exclusive that Polish keeper Lukasz Fabianski is to be a Gooner, saying “he is one for the future. We have identified him as having all the qualities to challenge here and be one of the future great goalkeepers for Arsenal”.
Am I the only one who thinks he looks like Michael J Fox? I hope he is a little bit taller!
So there it is, I have another busy weekend on the horizon so probably nothing more to come until the Pompey match review. Whatever you are doing I hope you enjoy it. I know I will.

Let’s hope he’s not as shaky either.
Heh,
Now I know I’m getting the level right!
