Quadruple – Pah, Easy!

What a terrific game that was. Wingers who could get behind the full-backs and cross. Players not afraid to have a crack at goal. Set pieces causing the opposition real panic. Defenders who know when to hoof and when to pass out of trouble. Then last, but by no means least a goalkeeper to die for.
Congratulations to Vic Akers and his Arsenal Ladies who completed the quadruple with a 4-1 triumph against Charlton in the Womens FA Cup Final.
The plaudits were shared between Kelly Smith and Jayne Ludlow with two goals apiece, but the whole side demonstrated the dominance that has seen them undefeated in all competitions this season.
It really wasn’t a good day to be a Charlton fan. How I would have loved to have been leaping around like a demented dervish in front of Alan Pardew as his Premiership managerial career ended. I still think worse sides than the Addicks have survived, but I cannot bring myself to feel any sorrow for their odious manager.
The same cannot be said about Glenn Roeder. Newcastle, by all accounts, are about to appoint the king of hoof as their new manager. Roeder has had to contend this season with the only injury list that was worse than that of Arsenal in the top flight. His reward, a P45 and being replaced by the master of anti-football.
As a wise man once said to me, “never look for logic in an illogical situation”.
