Hungry Wenger Opts For Silva Service
Jul 2nd, 2007 by 'holic
Arsenal.com have revealed the surprise signing of Eduardo da Silva from Dinamo Zagreb. Initially it looks like another wonderful piece of business by Arsene Wenger.
The Croatian international of Brazilian descent has grabbed seven goals in twelve internationals and scored an astonishing thirty-four goals in thirty-two starts for his club in the Croatian League last season.
That sparks memories of the Charlie Nicholas signing when a prolific goalscorer was snapped up approaching his prime. Some may argue that Nicholas didn’t work out as planned, but he scored goals and became a firm fans favourite in a squad that was far from as talented as the one that will be supporting da Silva this term.
Given the telephone numbers being quoted for any mundane striker in the major European leagues this could prove to be yet another astonishing piece of business for Arsenal.
The Gunners acknowledged shortcomings in front of goal last season suggest the capture of a prolific goal poacher is good news indeed.

Charlie Nick was also the man to come to my mind when reading Eduardo’s stats. You are right though – this is a much more inventive side than the one Charlie joined and Eduardo should benefit from that. His international goals are encouraging to, especially as Croatia are seeded quite highly by Uefa as a national team, ahead of Italy and Spain in fact. Let’s hope the gods of football are looking out for him and he really makes his name with us.
Most of our last season matches hampered with injures (RVP, Walcot, rosicky, Henry & etc). I hope & pray that this season will be a healthy season.
We are already empowered our team by youngplayers (RVP, clichy, Eboue & etc). we have got again unknown player who will shine more than Torres, Tevez & Bent, if you see him on international matches, u will find a more confident goal-scorer then anybody. He does it very calmly and wisely. He was on 4 rank topscorer on UEFA EURO 2007, he scored more goals than C.Ronaldo & other top players, see below link: http://www.uefa.com/competitions/euro/statistics/players/typestat=gs/index.html
Last season, our players were not on the good moral esp when Henry and RVP were on sick leaves, beause they were thinking we will end with gud stuff. But this season, the start up will be with challenges and push…
The most important thing is to create confidence and mentality-ready for players…I am sure AW will work on that more than anything…
