He Said What?
Sep 10th, 2007 by 'holic
I’m loathe to believe anything that comes from the hand of Mihir Bose. The BBC sports editor has a history of mischief-making when it comes to reporting matters Arsenal.
I would dearly like to believe one of the quotes he has attributed to Peter Hill-Wood in his latest creation here.
He is alleged to have said of the possibility of discussing the Red and White Holdings situation with David Dein,
“I see no major point in that, I’ve had 25 years of listening to him”.
Whether uttered by the Chairman, or created by journalistic imagination, the result is the same. It is not a statement designed to build bridges between the former colleagues at the Grove.
And whoever came out with it, it’s a bloody good line!
Talking of journalistic imagination it looks as though somebody at Arsenal has been upsetting the Daily Mail, who run with stories about Emmanuel Adebayor missing six games to play for Togo in the African Cup of Nations, whilst at the same time talking up an alleged West Ham move for Nicklas Bendtner in the January window.
The Adebayor story is not really news, is it? We all expected him to make up with his national side and play in the tournament, assuming Togo qualify that is, didn’t we? If I am not mistaken that is precisely the reason that the young Danish striker was retained this season. Bendtner will almost certainly get his chance as cover for Ade. What he does then will go a long way to determining his future.
Finally I have to wish good luck to the Arsenal, er, I mean England Ladies who open their World Cup campaign against Japan on Tuesday lunchtime. With Germany beating Argentina 11-0 in Group A tomorrow’s match could be vital in determining who progresses from the group. Good luck girls.

The Peter Hill-Wood argument, to me, is a statement of obvious facts. I thought that anyone reasonably well-educated, or anyone who has borrowed money and had to pay finance charges, would see the situation the same way I do. Yet not everyone does. In the Times Online weekly football podcast, “The Game,” a couple weeks ago, journalists could not decide if they agreed with the Hill-Wood position or the David Dein position. When pressed, one or more of them insisted that the question was too difficult.
I mostly view the whole take over issue as an un-welcomed side show, but I am impressed of late the degree to which Dein is a deeply tormented soul.
In fact, Adebayor was called up for a Togo friendly a few weeks back, reported by our official site. Seemed as if no one had caught onto it then.
PHW willl be forced to talk to DD, coz I doubt Usmanov will be interested in talking to him. In any case, the shares belong to Red and White, and as chairman, I expect DD will be sent as their representative for any meetings.

PHW also made this excellent point:
As a model for the future the idea that you set your club up to run at a loss indefinitely and let your Billionaire owner cover the losses is crap – lunacy I think was the word PHW used!
A different approach is Wengers – do the right things well, find and develop talent from all over the globe and let the Billionaires throw their money away until they get bored or go broke or get arrested by Putin or you go bust (like Leeds)
Actually Billionaires do not behave like this – they impose strict financial limits, they want a return on their money in other words they run the clubs they buy just like our Board runs Arsenal – except they have to pay out tens of millions a year to pay off the loans they took out to but the club – so you are less well off and no longer self-sufficient.
Be happy that Hill Wood is fighting to maintain a tradition that is all but extinct. Dein has served his purpose. As for you impending LOSS to spurs!! Im sure it will probably end in a draw!! But which every way it goes it will be a great game. I feel sorry for all the fans who do not have tickets and will not see the game live in the UK. Now if we do win please be prepared for gloating. If we lose I will be in the usual place to take my whipping gracefully!!
Cusop said, “I feel sorry for all the fans who do not have tickets…”
I feel sorry for me too.
You’re a stand-up guy willing to take your whipping gracefully. I really enjoyed the Arsenal-Tottenham Carling Cup tie last season – you can see Arsenal have the beating of Spurs in them. I’m looking for more of the same.
Thank you all for some intelligent comments on a piece that was obviously thrown together because of a lack of real news. For once Bose gave us bloggers a lifeline.
Cus, you are welcome here fella. I’ll never understand your allegiance, but you have a right to have as much a pop at me as I will at your boys. Banter is fine, a wonderful outlet for the imagination, abuse may just vanish at the push of a button. I know you understand that.
Thanks again all.
The beauty of Wenger is that he uses the gutter press as manure to feed his orchard. More on this will follow soon.
Dein is an Arsenal supporter but has always preferred to line his pockets before supporting his team. Whatever he does from now on will always be seen as invasive and detrimental to the wellbeing of the Arsenal spirit. I think he should go across to the spuds where he really belongs, because his son has been tainting his thinking with the bedroom whisperings of his daughter in law.
