Burnley To Take Our Mind Off The Challenge Of Tottenham.
Dec 2nd, 2007 by 'holic
The draw for the third round of the FA Cup takes us for what these days is a rare trip to Burnley, and the Clarets seem to be pretty pleased about that. I would imagine some of the younger amongst you will also be pleased as Turf Moor can be added to the list of grounds you have followed Arsenal to on your travels.
The Lancashire side currently sit ninth in the Championship courtesy of five away wins, the latest two of which came at table-topping Watford and former Premiership outfit Charlton. They have been victorious just twice in eight home starts. The recent improvement coincides with the arrival of a former Bolton striker, Owen Coyle, as manager at the start of November. More to follow before we send some sort of side there on the first weekend in January.
Now I know some of you will think this is plain wrong. Surely I can now show some sense of sobriety or decorum when news reaches me of Sebastian Larsson scoring the winning goal at White Hart Lane today? To think that the club who were destined on the dawn of this season to take our Champions League qualifying place off us have become the second club in the top flight (after Derby County) to lose at home to Birmingham City this season! Now of course Seb wasn’t the only former young Gunner who didn’t quite make it at Arsenal who featured in the winning line-up today. Fabrice Muamba also enjoyed his afternoon at the sticky brown end of Seven Sisters Road. Oh, and not forgetting Johan Djourou. Bit of a low blow that Brummies, playing a current Gunner who is only on loan! So now, let me see, how close are we to surrendering our top four berth?
1st Arsenal Played 14 Won 11 Drawn 3 Lost 0 For 31 Against 11 Points 36
16th THFC Played 15 Won 2 Drawn 6 Lost 7 For 26 Against 28 Points 12
Looks like you needn’t be in too much of a hurry to renew those passports, eh boys!

What an irony, after the defeat to Sevilla, the Spuds were crowing about their so called reject having got the better of us. Well, who’s laughing now.
Heh, judging by the text I just received our lillywhite cousins don’t do irony. Oh stop it please, it hurts 🙂
