Let's Admire Arsenal Artistry
Jan 20th, 2008 by 'holic
On Friday I suggested that Emmanuel Adebayor may be worth a punt for first goalscorer given Fulham’s loss of height this season. The opening half at Craven Cottage saw the Gunners almost cruelly expose that advantage.
From perfect crosses by Clichy and Hleb the big man planted headers to the left hand side of Fulham ‘keeper Niemi. In less than forty minutes the contest was effectively over. Nine minutes from time Eduardo, producing a wonderful performance scavenging for scraps and setting up his colleagues, pulled the ball back across the area for the oncoming Rosicky to apply a fabulous finish at speed.
The fact that those two had combined for the icing on the cake was fitting. They were the most productive creative forces on show and the two players, not renowned for their prolific work rate, were never far from the action.
With Manchester United and Chelsea both securing late away wins the result was of paramount importance for Arsenal. The most competitive championship for years is building up nicely.
Need A Present For The Gooner Who Has Everything?
The world wide web is a remarkable place. During the week I had the good fortune to ‘virtually’ meet the grandson of the late, great, Alex James. The brilliant wee Scot was the architect of Arsenal’s first major triumphs, winning four league titles and two FA cups, in the thirties.
Dave James is an artist who produces caricatures to order from photographs. Why not read about it for yourself on his website, http://djcaricatures.co.uk. The site details the process and provides examples of his work.
Regular readers will know that my father is approaching his eighty-sixth birthday, and Dave is providing the present, but keep it to yourself will you? I don’t want the old fella to find out just yet!

please send my best wishes to your daddy~~ well; arsenal did well at the match !
we were comfortable and that was most important, i thought dempsey deserved to go off with the elbow to senderos’ face but i’m not complaining, he always plays better once he’s had a knock to the face 😛
We did good didn’t we? :o) We’ll be even more magnificent when my Cesc finds his boots.
Checked out that link to Dave’s site, it’s fabulous! Happy birthday to your Dad!
xx
Great win – there’s no room for slip ups. Clichy had a great game. I really like that player’s recent form.
Hleb is the THE MAN. Pulling strings from every angle possible. Together with Rosicky’s baroque poise and slicing trickery forms the most artistic free role midfield unit in Europe.
daddy ‘holic will be well pleased with that i think. putting your rewards from the occasional ‘holic punt to good use i see..
Nice one for yer old man, ‘holic.
Rosicky’s always done some great tackles, you know.
Not just one like Pires 😉
