Happy Mothers/Groundhog Day
Mar 2nd, 2008 by 'holic
No names, no pack drill, but the landlord of my local chose a bad day to go out. The staff didn’t know how to get two channels on two screens so I was stuck in front of West Ham against Chelsea yesterday.
That dilutes my appreciation of what happened at the Grove. I have seen the carefully edited highlights on Match of the Day, and had some first hand accounts from mates who were there.
‘Think back a year’, said one who seems to make most sense. ‘Villa defended with ten, but to be fair attacked with four or five. They shut down space, tackled quickly, and enjoyed some good fortune at critical times. Isn’t that how so many teams nicked a point off us last season?’
Following the game as I did on the mobile web I feared for Phil Senderos when I saw he had put through his own net to give Villa the lead. By all accounts I didn’t need to. ‘He was bloody unlucky and played really well again’ commented my mate. Match of the Day picked up the opportunity he had to score at the right end. Shame he couldn’t take it.
A frustrating afternoon was salvaged in injury time when Adebayor set up Bendtner for the equaliser. Arsene Wenger spoke of a ‘refusal to lose’, while those who saw more of the contest than I were less than complimentary about us.
Of most concern is probably the fact that the goals that were being shared around the side until a few weeks ago are now arriving only from the forwards. The names of Flamini, Fabregas, and Hleb were ominously missing from the scorers charts in February. That needs to change, and quickly.
So that is four in a row without a win. A score draw to extend that run in Milan on Tuesday would be outstanding, but you get the feeling we really do need to tie up all three points on offer at Wigan next week. A one point advantage looks vulnerable and we have the opportunity to extend it to four while United face more cup action.

hey holic, you’re right. none of them played well. but for the lads to get that last-grasp equaliser despite playing so badly, i’d take it. besides, it will lift the lads for the milan game.
well, i’m hopeful anyway…
The team came out full of determination and Walcott had an early strike that Carson tipped away, had that gone in… But it didn’t and things seemed to go off the boil very quickly. There were lots of mis-placed passes and they just couldn’t seem to get their usual game going. But they deserve credit for not giving in when that o.g. went in and it looked like an equalising goal was never going to come.
Well it all started when Wenger decided to throw the match at OT.
But we will be back, the last gap goal might just be the thing to get us going.
Ade setups bentdner.. great if you ask me!!!
The truth of the matter is that we have overachieved and now showing signs of what we are made of-Glass, like the coach Wenger , made of glass and NO BALLS.
Helb, Eboue and Ade are pissing poor players. Helb cannot shoot, Ade for his height, is the worst header of the ball I ever see, and Eboue, enough said.
Until Wenger gets his finger out of his ass, and get some like benzema, a true winger and a central defender, then maybe we might have a chance next year.
Next year will be even tougher, as Liverpool, Spurs and Villa will strengthen and challenge.
OH Yes, some people are saying Arsenal through the match against United. I belive we were found out and beaten by a far better team.
danny – you must be spurs fan judging by your ignorant comments, and your ability to spell is laughable you idiot.
please ban this joker.
el tommo
let wait and see where we finish. 3rd maybe and all we get from the useless git wenger, is that we have improved from last year.
we need morinho

Danny my man…
Perhaps you’re frustrated that we didn’t play well at all, which in fact we didn’t yes you’re right and I agree with you here.
I think you throwing your words without close consideration here, Wenger is one of the best managers in the world and I think Chelsea would love to have him on board so stop lamenting that we need morinho come on stay positive and have some faith.
We looked either very tired, jaded or….like Wenger said still in a hangover mode from last weekend and I can understand that the whole team did not play well thats for sure.
I was watching the match at home and I was shouting my lungs out at them come on…..come on guys lets keep it simple pass well and time your runs and cross the ball as we did not have much luck through the middle of the park. O’Niell prepared them well for this game they defended really well and crowded the middle which was very hard to get through.
Ade should stay at the front we should have used our wings to cross the ball all the time and instead we tried to use the middle which never worked as they have defended that part very well.
I was happy to see us score the equiliser and well deserved one too!!!
We need to raise our game for sure but we need Rosicky back and Robin Van Persie
So come on you gooners dont loose hope it aint over yet and even if we dont win anything this season it will only make us stronger the next one. We have done really well so far werent we suppose to be somewhere like 5th place now accoriding to the critics?
Keep it real Keep it Arsenal!
The way I see it is this: We’ve had the 4-game run and we’re still top of the league. I am starting to really fancy us for the title.
Let Danny be. He is just upset his boys got a tonking at Brum yesterday. Happy St Totteringhams Day next week old son.
What no Brummies this week?
From what I hear of the Villa fans yesterday that’s just as well Jackster.
Only a tool would say we need Murinho. What we need is to stand behind our team, no matter the troubles.
And Benzema is not worth the 45 Million being talked about.
afternoon all. i’m sure our result cheered you up a bit after failing to beat those pink and baby blue t**ts. interesting to see a terrible double footed lunge by senderos which mysteriously was ‘not seen’ by wenger.
you do seem to have an achilles heel at the moment in terms of beating teams who defend deep and play quick counter attacks. i’m sure wenger knows this but prefers the ‘teams have to kick us’ statement as it doesnt detract from his players under-performing.
good luck in the chumps league this week.
