Wigan Up Next For Carling Cup Gunners
Nov 10th, 2008 by 'holic
A shortage of detail about the squad to face Wigan in Tuesday evenings Carling Cup fourth round tie means that Arsenal are definitely playing most of the youngsters who figured in the impressive defeat of Sheffield United last time out.
Almost certainly absent from that side will be Nicklas Bendtner, who worked tirelessly against Manchester United at the weekend and will surely be saved for the visit of Aston Villa this coming Saturday. Stepping in as an experienced head could be Kolo Toure, who may feel he is need of a full game as he battles to regain form and fitness.
Most eyes will be on the high profile youngsters. Jack Wilshere and Carlos Vela offer much attacking potential, and Aaron Ramsey will be hoping to exhibit the creativity that has earned him a full international call-up by Wales for their friendly with Denmark next week.
It looks as though Wigan too will be rotating their squad, but those hoping to be called in by the visitors are a more experienced collection. Camara, Scharner, Brown and Kilbane will provide testing opposition for the Gunners second-string. Be prepared to witness, at very least, stubborn resistance from Steve Bruce’s charges.
This generation of Young Guns can get revenge for the semi-final defeat by the same opponents in 2005/6, and the ‘holic pound is being placed on a 2-1 win for Arsenal at a best of 15/2. I am kind of baffled that such an inexperienced side is almost 1/2 on to beat a strong Wigan outfit so do look for the best value in a correct scorecast. The bookies got it horribly wrong on Saturday. I hope this isn’t two in a row.
If you are one of the sell-out crowd at the Grove I hope the side turns on a performance to match the one that saw Sheffield United thumped in the third round. The atmosphere at the Carling Cup ties is usually good as people who don’t get a lot of opportunities to attend get the tickets. Having said that you will have to really exercise the vocal chords if you are to match the support at the weekend. Give it a go!

Yup, Come on Gooners, lets give the lads some hefty support for the game, it will be a tough ‘un, but i have belief in our kids; So do the bookies apparently! I wont be at the Grove, but i sure will be jumping around my living room(as always!). Fly the flag high boys, let’s show Wigan what football is.
`heh `holic.
After a great weekend what a depressing day to be a football fan.
David Norris salutes his friend Luke McCormick with a private gesture of support in front of twenty thousand people.
McCormick ex Plymouth goalkeeper had received a seven year prison sentence for killing two young children in a car accident(?).
He was two times over the drink drive limit
Chris Morgan fractures a Barnsley players skull with the most horrendous challenge with his elbow.(It reminded me of Mark Bright breaking Andy Linneghans nose in the cup final replay against Sheffield Wednesday.)
Completely pre -meditated.For this Andy Durso(remember him) gives him a yellow card. The F.A. will do nothing. They would not want to be seen to dispute the refs decision. After all we must respect the referee.
The Barnsley manager will probably be up on a charge.
Chris Morgan will carry on playing, after all he`s a good salt of the earth English pro.
`Holic can wait to get to the Grove tommorrow to see our kids play.
Maybe then I wont feel so dirty.
Sorry for the depressing post but some times I despair.
Snaily been in?
He may have been lurking KT.
Saw both stories thanks gonko, and not impressed with either. Good luck to Iain Hume. Morgan is nothing but a thug devoid of talent and ability.
Really looking forward to seeing Ramsey. He looks a fantastic talent.
Agree with Gonko. Whilst the FA effectively condone such behaviour, the game has real problems. Norris has been fined by Ipswich????? That would appear to be nothing but a token effort on their part and makes them look a complete shambles of a club. I would have expected better. Morgan should be charged and let the courts deal with it if the FA are too spineless.
No Heskey tomorrow so hopefully the kids will do themselves proud on live TV.
No, I wasn’t lurking. Too busy watching Spooks.
5 – 0 to the Arsenal
One Kingfisher strong ‘holic. Do you have em up there? I’d like one chilled pitcher.
Oh yeah, and 2-1 to the young guns.
I agree – two depressing events. The Ipswich player should be suspended by his club and the FA for bringing the game into disrepute.
Morgan’s case shows how inept the football authorities are. Can you imagine this outside football – someone assaults you, and it’s caught on camera, but he can’t be charged because a policeman was in the area at the time and didn’t notice how severe it was.
Wenger and Ferguson have demanded the introduction of video evidence, but the spineless Blatter and Platini would rather stick their heads in the sand than introduce justice to the sport.
come on you gunners, we can do it and go on to win the worthless with the youngest team, ever.
