Sol Gunning For Another Title At The Lane
Apr 13th, 2010 by 'holic
When Arsenal and the neighbours walk out at the Lane it will be just eight days short of the fourth anniversary of the last ever meeting of the two sides at Highbury. Arguably, this is the most significant meeting since that day. We may since have traded two Carling Cup semi-finals, and eight goals at the Grove last season, but the importance of this match to both clubs is just huge.
Only one club can emerge from the game with their ambition for this season intact. Anything other than a win will, I am sure, be fatal for our dream of snatching a dramatic title triumph from the bus stop in Fulham. It would also end the prospect of a Champions League qualifier for the Middlesex marshmen in August. The draw would signal something of an apocalypse now for both clubs.
Ironically both come into the contest having suffered painful cup defeats in their last outing, but there is a world of difference between losing a Champions League quarter-final to Barcelona with a makeshift side, and being humiliated by a bankrupt club crashdiving into the Championship, with a player deemed surplus to requirements grabbing the decisive second goal. Nice work, Harry!
Arsene Wenger has had a week to raise spirits, and get some of the walking wounded back on their feet for what will undoubtedly be a massive test of character. If ever his charges needed to justify his proud claims of mental strength, it is now. The return of Robin van Persie to the bench is a massive psychological boost, but I have a feeling if he is to make it into the action things will have to be extremely good for us, or the opposite.
This is not a game you would choose to go into without Gallas, Fabregas, and Arshavin. Those privileged to be in the press conference earlier ‘forgot’ to ask if Song too would be absent. (Ed. confirmation later hit the official site that Song is out. Come on Denilson!) We will have to hope he has recovered in time. It will, however, be great to see Sol Campbell back at the Lane where he won his second Premier League champions medal in 2004.
To be fair the hosts are also missing some key players. Palacios and Kranjcar miss out for different reasons. They too will try to wheel out a talisman. Ledlegs King could make his appearance for April if he passes a fitness test.
A Tottenham fan at work swears that their defeat at Wembley owed much to them saving themselves for this contest, and there was some evidence to support his theory on Sunday. Nobody will be surprised if they find fresh legs and contest every ball at the Lane. They know they have to stop us playing so be prepared for a really tense opening hour.
The ‘holic pound trusts we will find a couple of moments of inspiration to ease that tension and is already on 2-1 to the Arsenal at 17/2 with Sportingbet. I couldn’t resist a backup of 2-0 with the same company at 11/1. Frankly though, the punt is irrelevant in this one. All that matters is we win, somehow, and get to celebrate St Totteringhams Day, 2010, as well as guaranteed Champions League qualification.
I know this is a little different to some of the ‘lighter-hearted’ previews I have previously produced for the North London derby. This is no laughing matter. I don’t like Tottenham. I never have, and I never will. There are only so many times you can remind them that back in the last century, when they last beat us in the League (yes, kids, they really did), they were managed by a man they hounded out, George Graham.
This is what supporting Arsenal is all about. The anticipation of a battle with the old enemy, and much at stake for both of the combatants. I am mindful of an old cricket quote. ‘If God is on our side, we will win. If God is on their side, they will win. If he keeps his nose out of it it we’ll bloody murder ’em.’
And nobody has ever deserved a good beating as much as Tottenham.
Win the next match.

Enid Blyton’s Famous Four plus One. It’s all sides of power in the powerhouse Pentagon. It’s a folk group called Pentangle singing twitchy protest songs – “I’m the Taxman, and you’re working for no one but me, Harry”. It’s a toss of the dice and a 1 and a 4; or a 2 and a 3. We’ll be happy with either.
Number 5 is alive! It’s time to kick back and Take Five. It’s the 5th of Never that I thought would never come. These won’t be five easy pieces as five-star Arsenal engage fifth gear with the hand-brake off and prepare to drive along 5 + 2 Sisters Road to the home of the team, a lowly 5th in the League with pretentions for 5-1th.
It’s Arsenal’s most important game of the season (since Last Wednesday’s) and it’s St Totteringhams Eve. We’re still missing 5, but there is a ray of light peeking through the boneyard door. Young Van Persie of Holland has been spotted hopping like a Mad March Hare complete with orange Easter Bonnet and BOTH feet working. And there’s not a splash of cow placenta to be seen anywhere.
And while it’s too early to burst into Song, the orange glow looks like it might turn into a duet for two in the key of C (for Class) as Alex too is apparently looking quite Sharp and his boots and tonsils are all waxed. . So don’t be Flat Arsene, hit the ivories and Roll Out the Barrel, preferably with both Jamie and Hawwy Wedknapp twitching right in its path.
Even with Palacios the Rotweiller in the kennel, Kranjcsar fiddling at home with his crankcase and John Lennon’s nephew Aaron fixing his guitar strings, WHL will be no place for the timid tomorrow night. So who are we likely to see? That’s the starter for 5, the 5 million quid question, the 5 brain cell squeezer.
The back 5 is easy (My Pal Al then Sunshine Sol and the Sunshine Gang – Sagna, TV, Clichy). The mid-field 5 is trickier. Eboue, Song, Denilson, Diaby, Nasri would be my pick. Nicklas Bendy up front with lashings of get-forward support from Diaby, Nasri and Eboue. And of-course, peach perfect forward passes from Denilson and Alex.
Robin, Theo and Rosicky all to feature as impact subs and put some icing on the Saint Totteringhams Day cake would do the Saint Totts Day celebrations very nicely I’d say. My money’s on a 2-3 away win, with the three on the red dice with white spots.
A Corona with a squashed Corluka please, barman.
Quality as ever, BtM.
Don’t think you are a million miles out with the likely side, although it would not be my choice. Relies on Nasri or Diaby going left, and I suspect he would put Abou out there. Not my preferred selection, at all.
Bergkamp’s The Man, you are the “Stuart Hall” of the blogasphere!
I keep getting this horrible feeling that after 10 years plus of not beating us in the league, sod’s law says Tottenham will manage it tomorrow. But I have my fingers crossed their injuries and Sunday’s game will bite and help our cause. Hell, I’d even rather have an Adebayor hat trick end our league season than have Spurs do it.
I’m surprised at how grumpy some people are on other forums about tonight’s game at Stamford Bridge, did people really expect them to drop points at home?
Come on Arsenal. Let’s beat ’em to a bloody pulp!
Sod’s Law has bugger all to do with it, Charlie. The Law of Averages is certainly on their side, and average they most certainly are. Time for us to prove it once again. Still expecting nightmares tonight about the draw!
“It would also end the prospect of a Champions League qualifier for the Middlesex marshmen in August. The draw would signal something of an apocalypse now for both clubs.”
Better to be Middlesex marshmen than Kentish nomads (and I did say KENTish!) but then Middx. can’t be all bad since you lot have stuck around long enough. As for the game well we’re both licking wounds and looking to restore dented pride, although I think the weeks break suits you better than the couple of days we’ve had. I think the stakes are that bit higher for you too so I reckon you might sneak a 1-2 win. If you do go easy on us though ‘cos you’ll all be rooting for us come Saturday against the chav’s! COYS.
Evening all…. a warm cup of milk and I’m off to bed. Something called the “gym” tomorrow morning. Stupid idea, it’ll never catch on.
What are the odds on RVP grabbing a goal tomorrow? Probably the same as breaking down irreversibly for the next 6 months I’d imagine.
WTNM
Fair pint Ju JU…. but then in football one reserves the right to be unashamedly fickle!
Thanks. ‘Holic for providing this great forum.
I agree that Diaby wide left is a waste. I’m thinking Nasri more likely out there with Diaby in the middle. No Eboue with Rosicky wide is the alternative, I suppose.
I really do hope Alex Song makes it.
So then BtM, Song is out.
The options are narrowing. Means Denilson holding, Nasri in the Cesc role, and Diaby up and down between them. Rosicky on the left, and Eboue or Theo on the right.
I would start Eboue, and bring on Theo in the second half to run at ‘Wembley’ legs. Funnily enough that makes me feel better. There is a balance to that set-up.
Cheers Holic, how have you been?
Well, after watching Chelsea Vs. Bolton, they ARE beatable and I expect Crouch and Defoe to do a lot of problems for their centre – halves.
Couldn’t ask for more as not only did they lose the FA cup semifinal but they also played 120 minutes on the Wembley pitch.
I’m certain we’ll do it tomorrow to cut it to 3 points and I’m quite sure both results on Saturday will go our way before the away game at Wigan.
One other very important thing is that the away game at Ewood Park has been moved to 3rd of March, meaning 2 days after Chelsea’s game at Anfield!
P.S Holic – Song is out for tomorrow and Wigan.
Hey Snir,
I’m good thanks. Hope all is well with you and Dad? Really looking forward to tomorrow, but not sure if my nerves will stand two consecutive away games against dangerous little clubs 😉

Proper report before the war, Mr. Holic! And BTM, I can’t make out whether you’re brilliant or insane…
Guinness, and a toast to RVP, if you will! Great, great news. Ah, and maybe a taste of Lagavulin for Young Wilshere- look forward to him back in red next season.
Now let’s tear their feeble dreams to shreds!!!!
Well, all will be well with 3 points tomorrow :).
My nerves have been really streched during this whole season but I still have a good feeling.
As for tomorrow – King, Kranjcar and Lennon all out could be massive for Arsenal along with a lot of players who are not 100% fit and also played 120 minutes on a Wembley pitch (Corluka for instance).
I really hope Spurs get at least a draw on Saturday against Chelsea.
A win for Chelsea and I can’t see them losing it, but who knows – Maybe Delap will have a throw in 😀
Watcha ‘holic. Yep, agreed, this one is serious. Whilst I’m feeling nervous, my more overwhelming feeling is one of victory for the mighty Gunners.
I’d agree with you and [even] the Spud invader upthread. 1-2 goes our way.
Keep on believing 🙂
Snir, they will get King out there if they have to staple him together.
The fitness test will consist of the accused asking him “are you still breathing Ledlegs?”
“Yes boss”
“On you go then son.”
I find it strange how we talk about who may or may not be fit for them? Quite frankly i don’t give a monkeys who they have fit and win they don’t. We are The Arsenal. They are spuds. End of.
I agree with you holic. A draw does not suit either. My prediction is that they will try and come out flying. They shoot their bolt early and we then take over. 3-1 to the gunners. Then the beer fridge takes a right good hammering. Bring it on.
Keep the faith.
…. That, or Sol to punch in the winner from a corner in the 89th minute.
Fantastic.
@19. Third line. Swap win for who. Poxy phone. Technology was never my thing.
I was at the Lane in 71, right behind the goal, and about to be beamed down about twenty rows of terracing as RK rose to nod home in front of us.
To-morrow only the the telly awaits, but this feels like the most important game against them since that night.
If only we could be playing them with a full side (if only we could ever play ANYONE with a full side) I’d be feeling very calm.
As it is, what chance that NB52 rises, a la Kennedy, 3 minutes from time to nod home the first and deciding goal of the night?
It would be tense, but so was bloody Wolves at home, and how effing brilliant did that goal feel in added time.
Let’s hope tomorrow indeed turns out to be St Totteringhams Day – it’s already about 3 months late.
What do we think of Tottenham?
We dont think about them.. We only keep beating them!! 😛
Massive game (Understatement of the year). I hope we press like we did against Barca (away) before the ref decided that the Barca players were made out of extra-fragile glass. Also, we need to take care of that tall fella who has caused us problems in the past. It’s good to know that Big Sol will be partnering Verm.
Whether the Spurs players gave it their all during the FA cup semi-final or not, the fact that they were on the pitch for 120 minutes has got to take a physical toll. I think it’ll tell as the game progresses and since we’re a team that does really well towards the end of games, we need to take advantage.
I believe we can do it, as a certain legend would say. Come on Arsenal.
Shut up Harry !
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/apr/14/harry-redknapp-sol-campbell-arsenal
Only Harry “we’re going to finish above Arsenal” Redknapp could try and tell our Sol he’s not happy to be back. Focus on your own team for once…
We need to win by more than 1 to bring down the goal diff. Chav’s have the rub of the green (by that I mean some very doggy ref’s calls for them) right now.
Beat the spuds tomorrow and cheer them on on the weekend. This has been a strange season.
Tim (26), we all know Harry is an optimist who is made to look like a fool on his opinions regarding the Arsenal.
That’s because the accused is a sad and bitter ex-Gooner, C1.
i really enjoy reading your blog, ‘holic. Come on You Reds!
I am nervous as hell.
Win the next match.
Lol ‘holic. Everyday he wakes up, looks himself in the mirror and wonders of the joys of his more illustrious neighbours…and then he opens his mouth and ruins it all.
I don’t like Tottenham. I never have, and I never will.
*Claps*
You can tell the Heebs havent been a threat for a very long time as the younger Fans amongst the Arsenal faithfull havent the same hatred towards them as the the older generation and prefer to aim their Ire at the Chelseas and Uniteds of this world, But that suits me nicely as it means we keep beating the slags and keeping them out of sight and mind,
And As for Tottenham Hotspur they can go to Hell to Hell,
FOYS !!!!!
My nerves are playing merry hell with me right now. I want us to win this game so much (as it was really necessary to point that out…), the Eleven Second Derby earlier this season was such a wonderful day and I want to have another one today.
Harry has been going on again about how they’re closing in on Arsenal, but for their resources.
What they did with their resources was to buy back their disloyal captain at a reduced price which turned out to still be a lot higher than he was worth, then ship him out to Celtic (i’m sure wages have a part to play here) at the business end of the season?
They signed Pavlyuchenko for what $8 million as a top class Russian benchwarmer.
I don’t even want to talk about David Bentley.
We need to destroy them tonight.
Such a shame Song out tonight – I think he’d have made the difference between the two sides, and I would have been putting a few quid on a win.
Theo should come on with 20 mins left.
I can’t see the chavs not winning the league now (though how Bolton didn’t get a penalty yesterday is beyond me) so I’m looking at the game as a way to stop sp*rs having a CL qualifier, which is fine by me!
I’m off to the lane later – it’s never a nice experience. When Sol et al won the league there in 2004 there must have been a few thousand “fans” gathered at the away entrance to throw bottles & shout abuse at Arsenal supporters. I hope they’re there again tonight – it’s a measure of their frustration at not beating Arsenal in the league since Ginola and Sherwood were playing.
Fame at last, ‘holic.

Lovely blog!
Champagne please. Keep it on ice until later this evening though.
Cheers Ollie, and thanks old.
@ Goonerholic
Excellent write up. It’s going to be a tight affair tonight mate.
I think Wenger will pick the following team against the Spuds:
Almunia
Sagna Campbell Vermaelen Clichy
Nasri Denilson Diaby
Eboue Bendtner Rosicky
Just placed the following bets on at Paddy Power:
Spuds/Arsenal (22-1 odds)
Pavlyuchenko to score first and Arsenal to win 2-1 (60-1 odds)
Quality interview over on just-football, ‘Holic. Thanks, oldgooner for sharing it @37. I wouldn’t have spotted it otherwise. Other holics – give it a click!
I like your A to Z grasp of the financial situation at Arsenal. I get a lot of questions, but frankly, I’m not well briefed. I would value (on one of your quite days) a piece beginning from:
“Once upon a time, Arsenal decided they’d outgrown Highbury” right through to “then the wise men who run Arsenal decided they’d tired of playing property magnates…….”
Cheers, ‘Holic. Enjoy the game tonight. I’m feeling pretty good despite the Alex Song blow.
Nice Interview Holic but could you cut down on some of them long words like perceived intransigence as i havent a clue what it means 🙂
Surprised you went for Dennilson as undervalued tho thought Eboue or Song may be the one as many fans still seem to undervalue Songs importance in the side i know opionons are changing but still dont think he gets enough credit at times and Eboue well that is one player that has certainly changed my view of him i never in a million years thought he would come back after that wigan game and he would have been sold of and never seen again, but all dues to the lad hes been pretty damn good this season and deserves the Plaudits and cult status he is now agiven, i still wish he would cut out the play acting mind as that is one trait in modern football i carnt stand,
Here we go chaps, great post Holic and I read your interview as well, Top Top Man Holic’ what else can you say!?!
We all know this a must win encounter and nothing else but a WIN will put a smile on my face, we lucky to have RVP back and I wouldn’t be shy playing him up front. Let’s see how well he’s going to do.
Agree with most for Thoe to start on the bench to be honest with you he a better sub player that has to be said. He is fast but as the game goes on he looses that with time ticking away.
Almunia
Sagna – Big Sol – Verminator – Clichy
Nasri – Denilson – Diaby
Bendtber – RVP – Rosicky
Come on you Reds!!!
Well my lot will be there so our forum will be empty, which is as it should be for true fans. We are currently with out Lennon and it definitely was in evidence on Saturday. Statistics are against us and moral is low. We know the importance of the game and like you our dislike our your despicable history. Is only equal your position concerning the lillywhites. Battle shall be gin and hopefully there will only be one victor. I truly believe your Achilles heal will be campbell.. The idoit beleives his own press way to much and we shall not hold back. To us campbell sums up all the adjectives that we feel about the gooners. As always I have remained polite and I will only post again this season if on the basis of gloating.. St Hotspur day is upon us ..Behold the trickery will not save you!!
Ohh…. Arsenal We Love you
Remained polite calling him an IDIOT already if that is being polite then I’m the next Polish President….
He’s alright Arthur. He’ll be back in a day or two acknowledging our superiority on the night 😉
Apart from tonight, hope all is well with you cus?
Lovely preview, as always.
Your insight from the standpoint of a local (old enough to remember when we were crap, crap and.. crap) is always a good reference for any ‘win with style and on the cheap, now!’ folks.
Keep this up for another 2 years and you’ll make my Favourites Toolbar :o)
Cheers, make mine a lager.
Bakes.
‘Holic what a great interview. You write the best blog whether in close season or not. I’ll be hoping to share in the champagne later on!
48 Bakes, Goonerholic is already in my Favorites Toolbar 😉
All good here Holic, feeling bit better now for sure what’s happaned has happened, it’s a very dificult time but time heals wounds so plenty of it is required.
I can’t really wait for tonight, I live here in Uk and have my Polish subscription to Cyfra+ (Like Sky in the UK) they are showing the game live but with no commentry due to the National mourining, it’s rather strange watching it like that but hey sometimes even our pundits talk crap especially when we leave it so late to score.
behind the 8 ball but not nasri, I’ll raise my glass with you on that one!
Great stuff as ever mate. Back later for a victorious Cuba Libre.
Hey ‘Holic!
What a great quote at the end! It reminds me of a classic Family Guy quote. As Brian is begining his final attempt to pass his physical fitness test and join the Army, Stewie offers a prayer, ” Dear Lord…. just STAY OUT OF OUR WAY!”
C’mon you GUNNERS!
Arthur, time heals all and champagne can help too! Let’s plan a celebration in any case.
I rarely drink wine before beer, but tonight something is telling me to mix it up.
Anything of a ten year vintage, barkeep? Something tells me there’s a significance to that number…
Very downbeat about this NLD. Something isnt right.
Got a dull feeling our title challenge might come to an end today.
Sajit,
Come on my man please have at least some hope! We look better than the spuds anytime!
Come on you Gooners! Bendtner to do a hat trick at the lane! 😉
I wish
We will be ok today…keep the faith! I do think Eboue should start though to give us some steel as it will be a very physical contest especially the first 30 minutes or so. To have RVP and Walcott available later with 20 minutes or so left should give us a lift at the crucial stage of the match should we need it!
First Guinness evaporated. Really want this to get going now.
We can do it! Let’s believe and good things can happen.
Line ups
Arsenal Starting XI: Almunia, Sagna, Campbell, Vermaelen, Clichy, Denilson, Diaby, Nasri, Rosicky, Eboue, Bendtner
Arsenal Bench: Fabianski, Silvestre, Merida, Eastmond, Walcott, Eduardo, van Persie
Tottenham Starting XI: Gomes, Assou-Ekotto, King, Dawson, Bale, Rose, Huddlestone, Kaboul, Modric, Defoe, Pavlyuchenko
Tottenham Bench: Crouch, Bentley, Alnwick, Livermore, Walker, Gudjohnsen, Bassong
———————————————
Looks fair enough under the circumstances. End of the road for Vela, methinks!
4:30am, stream in chinese, spuds goal.. not started well. Can only get better from here!
ok now Vermaelen going off.. maybe I spoke too soon. And Silvestre on. Silvestre and Campbell!? Midfield needs to work hard!
Almunia does it again oh dear…
We looke like we haven’t played footy for a month, Nasri is no where to be seen, Diaby doesn’t know what to do with the ball.
For me only two players are trying at the moment and that is Eboue and Rosicky…
Second half coming God help us please!
Scrweed, Bale 2-0. Game over.
Holic will you have balls for once and stick the booth into Wenger and these gutless cunts like they deserve. Please dont write anything positive or in defence of this disgracefull spectacle. This has to hurt even you
I dont know whether to laugh or cry at the state Wenger has put us in. Groundhog day year after year and will be again next year with Wenger in charge.
Paulie, did you not see the impact that RvP had when he came on? When are you ladies going to realise that you cannot win anything without 6 of your main players, game after game? I hardly think that is Wenger’s fault.
Not a good start to the birthday..
Easy to say now, but would it really have been worse to throw someone like Bartley in at the deep end instead of relying on Silvestre? (instead of sending him out on loan). The difference is Bartley is young and will improve AND will be here next season.
Van Persie is a monster, we missed him.
Lets keep some logic here, wrong tactis and I think only one is to blame here, however the players represent him so to blame Le Boss is out of this world.
I’m double sad with many of you may know however from what you saw was is Wenger on the pitch?
As far as I could see he was shaking his head all the way thorugh the first half …..second half wasn’t better….to start with at least
I think bringing Walcott and RVP scared them alot! but it was too late! They shouls have started!
“gutless cunts”? … didn’t know some of our support had decided to craft a name for themselves. Paulie, all I can say is congratulations – it suits you.
As for the match – it hurts but overall its been a good season especially considering how luck has completely turned its back on us at key points.
Anyway peeps I have to be up at 5am so I have to leave you to debate on this one!
It is shocking they could’t even win for Fabianski!
They were lazy they deserved to loose…. I think! They didn’t show any belief in this especially Diaby and Nasri ……….
Diaby picked up a little bit but Nasri where was he? Oh dear it’s liove another bad dream!
We’ve got to get a new goalkeeper, Almunia is a disgrace to the team. I know he has has some good matches, but his desicion making is just horrible. For heavens sakes, if it costs us 30 million pounds, buy Hugo Lloris!!! I can’t stand that fucker we’ve go between the sticks… Robin looks like he has been playing all year long, absolutely brilliant! Could have had 2, maybe even three goals tonight. God i’ve missed him!:((
Come on you mighty gooners!!!!
Paulie,
Shut your window-licking trap.
I’m sorry I may have sounded too harsh earlier on…
This is their first win in league for how long for?
Well its over. Message to Wenger.. Fabregas made fool of himself a few years back. Now bringing Campbell to the spiritual home of the Lillywhites. These are Big Mistakes. it was a Great goal by the young lad, yet Almunia proved to us all he is a liability (thank you) Bale scoring was a joy and that was also another hoo doo put to bed. I unfortunately have to wish you luck against City.
Season over lads. Question .. win against Pompey and another trip to Wembley (can your remember what that is like) or Beating you lot.. No brainer!! COYS..
Even ‘Holic knew this match was going to be tight. The boys had to come out with fire in their belly… they just didn’t have it. It has been a tough season, and after getting slapped with a once-in-a-million volley and losing Vermaelen – it was a bit too much. It’s been a good year – next season will be better if we sign some players and keep healthy. I hope we find a way to close the season with some pride and professionalism.
Onward and upward. I’ll always keep the faith.
Cusop, I quite like the first two letters of your name. Add an “n” and “t”, and you sum yourself up pretty good. But you tossers can’t read can you?
moron.
I feel your pain Lonestar.. I feel your pain! And I like it!! It hurts and hopefully in time if the balance is redressed your will learn to deal with it. As I said all our lads were at the game and plan to get wasted tonight and sleep in a van!! Mean while you can call me as many names as you wish. We won and you lost. You have team that the Arsenal Players of 30 years ago are ashamed of for your lack of British Talent. Our goals were scored by Brits and one a fine contender to oust out any chance of your only English hopeful of going to SA.
Good night to be a Lilly White COYS!!
Enjoy it while it lasts Cusop, but I fear it will all be too brief for you. When’s Harry’s court appearance? Also, are there any other Portsmouth players he’ll buy before going down?
OK Paulie, time to say what you have had coming for a long time.
Go fuck yourself you whingeing, gutless, puerile prick.
Feel better now, you got your response?
You don’t have an earthly about pain. It is not losing a title with four games to go you excuse for a human.
It is seeing people you love in pain. It is about seeing injustice. It is about watching twenty year olds acting like five year olds wanting everything now. So feel pleased with your response, and I pray you don’t learn what real pain is anytime soon, you retarded prick.
Fair play cus. Your night tonight.
It’s almost always ours so I can’t complain about the exception that proves the rule.
Enjoy it fella, you know the way our club is set up it won’t happen often for you in the future.
“I feel your pain Lonestar.. I feel your pain!”
Of course you do. Ten straight years of it, to be exact.
Even a blind squirrel, I suppose.
Evening ‘holic. Want an impact RvP had, eh? I don’t often agree with the crap that comes out of Andy Gray’s mouth for the majority of the time, but every now and then he says something that is factually correct and it hits home. In precis, but, “How would Man U have coped without Rooney, or Chelsea without Drogba or Liverpool without Torres, Van Perise is exactly that important a player for Arsenal, and boy have they missed him.”
We have been more than punching above our weight without him, so I’m still loving this season as it brooks so much good for the future. We just need to keep our first teamers fit and competing for places.
Ouch thank fuck that only happens once every ten years nowadays, probably best I don’t say what I’m feeling about certain members of our squad and some of the decisions from above till I’ve had a few more strong ones and a good nights kip, what I will say is certain members of that side should take a long hard look at campbells performance tonight and realise what’s needed At the very top not just in ability but a fucking will to win,
Here’s to the next ten years
Holic best make mine a treble tonight
up the Arse,
It does hurt a little
Lets not undermine the facts here…….shall we
Lone star gooner …….. I did and try my self its hard work look at Holic you perfect up to date blogger!
Your last post you sorry arse twit!
Sunday, 03 August 08, 11:52 PM
Lonestar Gooner apologies I seemed to have the wrong the end of the stick!
Ha ha…. Holic. Thank you – you just cheered me up no end with your response. Not to Cusop (fair enough; enjoy it while you can. God knows we have for long enough), but to Paulie.
This hurts WAY more than the loss to Barça, but I WAY more proud of the boys. You can only think ¨”if only” about RVP. One day our luck on injuries will change. What a genius he is.
Paulie. From me; Prick.
I love this team.
WTNM
Was not Bale’s goal offside? I saw Sagna 25 or 30 yards away to the right but surely he was not involved in the play. The only thing Silvestre did wrong was not raise his hand to appeal for offside, but he and Campbell were in good position. If I’m off base, please illuminate me. Spurs outplayed us for 60 minutes anyway, and we need a win not a draw so Bale’s goal might not have made a huge difference but it sure could have especially considering the impressive impact Van Persie made. What a player!
bugger.
PS; I didn´t see the 1st half. But I trult don´t see why there is any question about Wenger offering Sol a contract foir next season. We need him! If only for his attitude and prescence. No brainer for me.
Sorry for the typos. Adrenaline and alcohol……
Phew, thought we were going to blow it in the last 10 minutes. Van Persie was outstanding for you lot. Just waiting for my Gooner hubby to get home, he seems to be taking his time for some reason! COYS.
Ju Ju. I think you´ll find he´s in the pub with Holic!
Goonerholic
Both clubs are in excellent position financially going forward, Unlike you we are based on not achieving CL year after year in order to balance the books. I will say that tactically Wenger could have beat us. And Gomes at the end proved to be worth his weight in gold.
There was a point just after the 2nd goal a 5-1 drubbing looked on the cards but you fought back and finally Clattenburg did us a favour by blowing the whistle dead on time. I was frustrated when Almunia made it clear before the corner was taken that he was coming out. As we did not react. Thankfully ROSE did!! Lovely jubberly
For us in the clear light of day it will become apparent that it was GoodyJohnson that kept us together. Now I shall float on the white cloud of pure joy for the evening. With the knowledge that in your heart you still fear those days returning. When North London was dominated by the Spurs. Our greatest advantage is that we have a core of English players and this is appealing to the young generation. Dawson, King, Rose, Befuddlestone, Defoe and Lurch, with others on the mend. The Gooner biased media rags will be struck down by Walmarts inablity to effect the game and being Eclipsed by another young british talent
behind the 8 ball but not nasri
I dont think we should debate on weather he was or he was not offside…
The goal stood and I think Sivesrte played him on, a minor issue…but we should have never allowed it o happen!
Heh, Ju Ju – could be a frosty one tonight… 😉
I thought we’d be good for a draw, but Gomes kept you well in the game.
No worries, Arthur.
I do need to get meself up to date on that blog. Where, oh where to find the time? I guess the good Lord chose to intervene tonight (like all of the season).
Given all the tough breaks (Ramsay, please forgive – no pun intended), next season should be one for the faithful to remember. As for the Spuds-lovers, no fair play at all… even though you won, let’s see you make the fourth spot – then qualify – then win something other than the Carling Cup. Remember, to dare is to d’oh!
‘holic – lovely response to Paulie…thank you kind Sir. Do we really need ‘fans’ like that waiting in the wings for a defeat?
This has been an amazing season and I remain not only proud but very optimistic. I thought we were the better team tonight but the spuds will react like this is their cup final. Sadly they’re not going to have one are they after Sunday’s disaster. If we do buy a keeper this summer we could do worse than look a few miles up the road…(just a thought)
Win the next game….and start RVP if at all possible.
Paulie – you’re not even welcome as a plastic gunner.
Cusop of Mighty Spurs
Congrtas on the win ………… I don’t thing you deserve it but now and again you might as well……..
Good luck with Chelski!
I love paulie. Makes of realise how lucky i am. Thicker than a whale omelete.
Did not really deserve anything tonight. Saddens me but they wanted it more. Must admit i was very disappointed with diaby. Every time i want him to take hold of a game he disappoints. Van Persie showed what we have missed, and what might have been had he stayed fit.
Silly errors cost us again. Happened too many times this season.
This one is just for paulie. Keep the faith.
It hurts that we lost to them, and in such a fashion
RVP is back and full of promise but where were the others when we needed them
Rosicky, Nasri Diaby Eboue and Walcott were not playing as they have done, not on the sharp passing game and did they not learn from Barca – lose the ball and get back after it and this is what (IMO) lost the game , not the defence.
Bale seemed off for the second but overall we were stretched ‘cos the midfield didnt come back fast to help
Back to the drink for another year
Frosty is not the word Snail, just got home from the pub to find the missus sitting at the computer with a smug grin on her face posting messages on one of MY websites! I thought we did ok tonight but they had the rub of the green. Had one of the chances that Gnomes saved gone in I think we’d have won it against all the odds. The most galling thing of all though is not so much those pikey’s celebrating like they’ve won the world cup ‘cos that was always going to happen some day. It’s the increasing likelyhood of that patchy-haired chav cnut becoming a double winning captain that gives me nightmares!
When north London was dominated by spurs fucking he’ll I’ve heard it all from them deluded fucks now, what century was that? You Dim twat weve won the league title more times at your ground than you have in your ENTIRE FUCKING HISTORY we’ve also stayed above you whilst spending 500mill on a new ground, of which we should finally see the fruits of our labour, See you back here in 2021!
Mr Ju Ju, Your missus sounds like a real problem! Couldn’t you send her to reeducation camp? My sympathies.
Paulie certainly uses the language of a winner, doesn’t he?
Oh….was Paulie the “I hate people who say keep the faith”…..?
now it all makes sense…….
Incidentally tonight (and Barca away) both reinforced to me just how valuable Song has been this season.
She’s ok really, just comes from a misguided family. She’s in the other room now digging out the Chas n Dave albums and will no doubt buy the DVD of this game which is sure to be in the scum shop by friday! She’s been exchanging text’s with her sister who was there tonight with her Dad, you’d think they’d never beaten us before.
We just have to get a new keeper. That first goal was awful to concede. If he hadn’t fallen over as if someone shot him he would have gotten to it.
The squad next year should be –
A bought keeper – preferably Neuer or Lloris, Schezny (however you write it) and Mannone.
Clichy, Sagna, Vermaelen, Campbell, Djorou and another centre half – maybe Hangeland and Gibbs.
Song, Diaby, Cesc, Nasri, Eboue, Rosicky, Ramsey, Wilshere, Merida, Walcott and a replacement for Song.
Robin, Chamakh, Nic, Vela and another one – maybe JET or someone else from the market.
We should though offload – Almunia, Silvestre, Gallas, Denilson and Eduardo.
I know this isn’t the time for end of the season comments but unfortuantely I can’t see Chelsea dropping 7 points out of 12. 6 tops.
I mean, look…I can understand Cusop and his like being excited about their win tonight. Fair enough, they have every right.
But thinking they’re in a better position moving forward? What sort of delusion is this? We’ve got far more young talent, including Brits like Ramsey, Wilshere and Gibbs, and once the stadium is fully paid off (sooner than expected, mind you) our financial advantage will be quite significant. Conversely, they have “a core of English players,” the best of which are aging, and a manager with a penchant for bankrupting his clubs.
You’ll forgive me if I’m not quaking, I think.
Paulie? You can actually read? Wow. Now there’s a bet i would have lost. Now crawl back under you pebble and take your filth with you. Then when your balls drop and you have grown up i look forward to reading something constructive. No, i really do. I would love to know the solutions. Can’t wait. Your literacy skills are quite outstanding.
Lads, By suggesting that both clubs are in a good financial position I never for once said we were better off!! But unlike so many other clubs we have a low debt ratio and our players are in demand. Young Rose could easily produce a 4 or 5 million now. So we are a trading club with 36000 seats (expensive ones). You are in debt but have 60000 stadium and look to have passed the scary point. The win tonight is critical to both clubs. it gives us a slim chance of CL football and basically kicks your hopes of the Prem into touch. .. Chippy sure your name is not really Chirpy.!! LOL!! Enjoy the Holics blog/forum for he is has superb talent for communicating. His fear of the bad old days returning are based on years of being a gooner fan. My optimism is based on being a King Edward!! I shall not change and I glory in your pain !! If I could be nurse tonight and rush round with your homes with pain killers. Be guaranteed the pain killing syrup would be laced with laxative.. I am the spurs fan you all hate on the trains that will not give up defending my team our philosophy which Wenger chops has stolen from us. Harry Redknapp or HR Puffnstuff as I love to call him has changed our club and put it on a firm footing. based on broad spectrum of talent. Both British and Foriegn. Bentley looked good to night!! (cusop smiles again!! 😉
112Cusop of Mighty Spurs
Enjoy it while lasts …………..
😉 its still good …
Arent delusions just fascinating? My my, I knew Spurs suffered from a small club mentality/inferiority complex but this over-reaction is taking the mick.
Enjoy the three points Cusop, But be sure to remember that three points is all it was. A win does not equal a shift in power, I will offer your last win in 1999 and subsequent carling cup victories over us as evidence for that.
This was always going to happen eventually but it is merely luck that it happened now, Arguably when we are entering the final stages of Arsene’s great project and becoming the club and team we have spent the last 5 years building. Financially we are in an incredible position, Our team is young and ever improving. Look at Song, Diaby’s and Bedntner’s contribution this season compared to last.
To suggest your team is of similar quality and capable of similar growth and improvement is frankly rediculous. Sadly for us, The league table does not lie, Cusop. Have a look at it, And previous seasons league tables to regain whatever sense of perspective this victory has made you lose.
Fantastic post ‘holic, A Sam Adams for me please.
Let’s not just blame fabianski. He was shit but the players infront of him were “shitter” with the exception of …er er em nobody!
Now we officially become Spuds
On the bright side though, we pushed Hull further down to religation….
