Arsenal, Top Of The Blogs
Oct 7th, 2010 by 'holic
The tremendous reception for Clive’s recollections of the 1971 FA Cup Final have come as no surprise. In the unlikely event that you have yet to enjoy that particular read then I recommend you do so now. Thank you for those who have taken the time to pass favourable comment, both in the drinks and by email. The historical pieces here are always well received and I am grateful for that.
This morning I was also sent the new Wikio blog rankings ahead of their publication on Friday. Whilst I am obviously both delighted and humbled that ‘holic retains the number four spot in the football category in the UK, I am also struck, once again, by the number and quality of Arsenal blogs generally.
That is reflected once again in the October rankings, with half of the top twenty being Arsenal blogs.

I would just like to offer my congratulations to each and every one of the Gooners in that ranking. I have had the good fortune to meet all but a couple of them, and passionate people about Arsenal they are. I’m looking forward to seeing even more Arsenal blogs joining that band next month. The talent, and mix of styles and viewpoints, is certainly out there.
Well played you Arsenal bloggers!

Maybe this’ll keep BBB happy? Chilled white please
@ H2H from the last post;
They do here in Spain.. I’ve been gazing in a slightly worrying way at them, wondering if it’s acceptable for a 42 yr old to buy one. Even if it’s for La Liga. What do you reckon?!
Its even more comforting to see that neither Le Grove, Arsenal Action or Arsenal News Review made it to that list.
This Blog is higher than 4th on my list ‘Holic. 1st stop on my list followed by Arseblog (although I suspect he is a closet Phil Collins fan as he protests far too much on that score…..)
Anyway, keep up the good work.
I quite fancy an Erdinger tonight if you don’t mind.
‘holic, it is interesting to note that certain blogs that are consistently calling for AW’s head on a plate do not make the top 20, despite the fact they tell us they are the ‘voices of Arsenal fans’!
Mind you Phil McNulty’s blog is there and he recently wrote about Kevin Davies’ call up to the England squad:
‘Bolton’s 33-year-old striker, after finally giving up hope of an England career following years of long and honest toil in the Premier League…’
Good and honest toil!! He’s having a laugh.
It’s great to see so many Arsenal blogs mentioned. Maybe we are just more literate?
Nice one ‘holic. Why do you think we Gooners are so much more prolific (and literary) than everyone else?
Would also (belatedly) like to add my appreciation of Clive’s reminiscences. As an 11-year-old in ’71 I never got to go either WHL or Wembley, but I’ll never forget watching the Cup Final on the box with the rest of the family (even if I was the only Arse supporter).
Just had a look at “whoateallthepies” for the first time – a very good neutral read!
Before we go too far with the “who is or isn’t” on the list route can I ask that we don’t start pillorying other Arsenal bloggers.
If any particular blog publishes stuff you don’t agree with just don’t read it. I find that the best solution to rising blood pressure!
All the bloggers give their time freely to put their views out there, and driving wedges between Arsenal supporters is something I would sooner not see on these pages if possible.
I realise how difficult that is sometimes. I get impulsive myself on occasion, but generally it is good to see people of differing views debating the issues respectfully in the drinks.
Cheers all.
Whether you agree with them or not Le Grove has to be on that list. They generate like 200 to 300 comments per post. It shows me the list is a farce.
[…] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Arsenal FC, Arsenal News. Arsenal News said: Goonerholic | Arsenal, Top Of The Blogs http://bit.ly/93bLtr […]
Any mention of the criteria used – visits by separate IP addresses perhaps?
It’s not unusual for comments sections to become conversations between a limited number generating a lot of comments. Still, LeGrove can be quite fun, insightful, and has let up on the negativity of late.
Cigar City Imperial Stout for me (Zhukov’s, if you’re wondering)
Congratulations on your high position ‘holic. Yourself and blogs are my first stop every morning, and the quality never diminishes.
Kc, while I may not agree with what le grove says, to call the list “a farce” because they are not on it while they generate 200-300 comments per page makes your comment the farce. It’s not about quantity, mate. It’s about quality.
Just goes to show the song is right Holic
We’re by far the greatest team, the world has ever seen
Well done young ‘holic (because I am older than you!) – memories of that marvellous week in 1971 where I was present at both WHL and Wembley will linger in the memory for many years yet.
Kc, most comments on le Grove are either a load of tripe or from their own posters.
You don’t get comments on there like you do here. Shows the quality of the readership instead of the quantity
Congrats, ‘holic.
Something red, perhaps? Rioja.
I’ll drink to that. Congratulations ‘Holic. It’s interesting that of all the non-Arsenal blogs, only one of them is dedicated to a specific team. I wonder if it is because we have such a fine inspiration in Arseblogger and ‘Holic that so many other gunners decided to start their own sites.
Now if we could replicate our success on the web on the pitch, that would be something. I’m hoping this is the season.
…..which I believe reflects the quality of the blog, might I add!
DRINK!
A pleasure as always, daft. About time we saw you at the Grove again!
Can’t promise – but I’ll do my best. Zimmer frame and incontinence pants are in receipt of regular maintenance!
Congrats on your deservedly high ranking. Good to see quality being rewarded.
A glass of the ’90 Krug is the very least we should raise to you, ‘Holic.
Holic and Holics
thnks for all the kind responses to my 71 memories, they were all very much appreciated.
i look forward to reading some of your memories in the future.
Special thnks to Holic for being kind enough to post them on his site.
Dad has sadly been ” Upstairs ” for quite a few seasons now,but in one of his infrequent communications with me recently,he did tell me that he has been trying to teach God the finer nuances of the offside law,but without much success unfortunately.
But on a brighter note he also told me that he has recently been appointed manager of the Disciples/Apostles football team, which he is enjoying, although he did say it was a bit disconcerting when John the Baptist turned up for training with his head on a platter.!!
Cheers to all
Clive
Just goes to show, ‘holic, if you build it well they will come.
how do you rate blogs- ACCEPTABILITY- l like goonerholic. but there is no question le grove is not only the top arsenal blog but the the top football blog around. how many footballs blogs can boast of at least 300 comments per day.
obviously you can tell there is a lot of beef going on here.
someone said quality not quantity. ok. MICROSOFT Isnt the best OS around, but they have 95% market share. so you dont put them as top because they are quantity ridiculous.
my top 5 ranking -arsenal i.e
1.legrove
2.young gun(without these guys i wouldnt know jack about the academy)
3.gonnerholic
4.desi gooner
5.wrighty 7( he’s been off lately)
Congratulations Holic.
What you have achieved in that list is all well deserved, i always look forward to your previews and reviews after each and every Arsenal game, lets hope the trend continues and you and Arsenal continue to grow on that list and top it soon 🙂
i will have a Vodka, preferably Black Label for myself
gunning hawk -you’ve got to give them props too, lots of hard work
I can only say thank-you ‘holic. Your blog is always top quality, and the best place for any “half-empty” glasses. Not that there are many here.
Goonerholic number 1 in qualitative measures, and Arseblog a close second. I’m not sure how the other ranking is arrived at but I suspect number of “hits” which is a quantitative measurement. Barman a glass of my new favorite beer, Surlyfest, a seasonal Minnesota brew, if you will, and a toast to the ‘holic man.
I know which 2 Blogs are my 2 favorite… Goonerholic, and Arseblog, Thegoonblog is right up there as my 3rd favorite.
There is a newish site called justarsenalblogs.com which has 58 Arsenal Blogs as contributors already, and that is without Holic and Arseblog!
There is no other team in the WORLD with such a large web following!
You do realize if BtM had his own blog, he’d be pressing you harder than Barcelona on Speed?
Your brilliance and BtM’s drinks poetry make most of my days. Cheers Sir ‘Holic.
Have u heard what Danny Murphy’s had to say about leg breaking tackles? Spot on in my opinion. Always appreciated his style of play very committed but never overstepped the line. Now he’s risen higher in my estimations. Let’s hope something happens before it Lord Rooney or Saint Gerrard’S legs get done!!
We can but hope
Morning All,
Nez was going to post that myself – Fair play to the lad he knew what he was saying and how it would be received and by saying it he has thrown the match into the firework box !!
Makes me laugh tho how people that were deriding Wengers views on it only months ago are now in full agreement and show fake disgust in the latest spate of thuggery, Look forward to Pullis replying to an English players views rather than a poncy don’t like it up moaning frenchman 😉
Re: Danny Murphy, here’s a link:
Danny Murphy: managers send their players out too pumped up
I find it very interesting that more and more players are coming out and saying things have gone too far, and now that Murphy has made his opinion public it is clear that not even all the British players buy into the “this is the British way of playing” line of reasoning anymore.
The tide might be about to turn, and there’s also this rather interesting piece from the other day, there are a few very good points there.
Huge credit to Danny Murphy for that – let’s hope the tide is turning.
First time poster and long time admirer of this blog. I hve to say that love the quality of the blogs themselves and the intelligence of the comments, on here, equally.
I’d like to just add to what the No3 poster said about Le Grove, ANR (utterly rancid and rubbish as a blog IMHO) and Arsenal Action (Just nuts). It must say something about the good sense of the majority of Arsenal fans (and even non-Arsenal fans who just enjoy intelligent football commentary) that none of those blogs are as highly rated as the ones on the list. I have to confess to looking in occasionally at Le Grove just for a laugh… that forum is the arsenal world’s equivalent of the Flat Earth society… There’s nothing that much more spending won’t solve in their opinion even with the evidence of Liverpool and 200m splurge before us… There was even a Blog, on there, recently advocating that we copy some of Real Madrid’s reckless spending… it gets worse… The funny thing was that it was based on a totally incredible Real Madrid financial statement! Talk of naive, eh.
Anyway thanks to everyone on here for offering such sane, level headed, intelligent and well thought out opinions most of the time. It is very much appreciated.
guys total randomness….
Fifa 11…players creation centre
I have created a few LEGENDS for use on the game…please download so we can get our legends to the top of the private team list..
atm we have safehands seaman, the mighty cliff bastin, and super charlie george…more will follow if i can get these off the groud so please all fellow gooners do whats right….
Manchester United reports loss of £80m

Looks like it’s not so sweet up North also looks like Liverpool might be dectuded 9 points if its parent company Kop Holdings goes into administration next week.

Lots of good news this morning, then. The bad news stories must have been depleted with so many of the bad news generators away or abroad.
Well done on your ranking ‘holic. It’s great to see you don’t rest on your laurels either, keeping things regular without compromising the quality.
I shall be raising a glass to you as soon as this working day is done – and to The Arsenal of course.
Nice one
Thank you ‘holic for posting the list which includes several interesting non-Arsenal blogs I had no idea about.
Bravo holic! Nice piece of work.what abt ladyarse?
Congratulations ‘Holic.
Your good self and Sir Blogs of Arse are by far the best ports of call for us gooners.
I’m glad you have a well stocked bar because this establishment is getting more popular by the week (and rightly so) the drinks are multiplying and that’s never a bad thing (hic)
A raised glass to you and all fellow ‘holics.
Cheers.
@Catelan’
Acceptable? If it were up to me it would be mandatory. 😉
I’m gonna see if I can find something similar here in the NL, I remember last year a supermarket chain gave away stickers of Ere Divisie players when you bought a certain amount of groceries, but that’s just not the same.
Congratulations ‘holic….well earned…I know it takes a lot of discipline to write all year round.
Arsenal supporters really are spoiled for choice with blogs…I’ve spent (not wasted) huge blocks of time reading the many great offerings online and as I’ve mentioned before not since the earlier days of the fanzines and going down to Sportspages in Charing Cross Road (is that still there?) can you get so many differing and quality viewpoints.
As for the drinks – it’s become like letters to the NME…sometimes as good as the writing of the actual blog.
Lastly, for a gooner overseas such as myself it helps so much with feeling connected to the club and supporters – so keep up the excellent work.
Thanks all for those flattering words.
Very uplifting as I prepare to sit in front of ATVo Friday night live, ready to relive the horrors of last Sunday.
Good job I have had a few pints of fortitude 😉
For those interested, here’s an insightful post from last year which confirms that Arsenal is indeed the most blogged about club :http://blog.ecairn.com/2009/09/18/arsenal-wins-the-social-media-league/
(Notice how the rankings are wildly different from Wikio, not surprising since there are so many ways to ranks sites).
Almost 3 years ago, I did a bit of research myself and well over 50% of premiership blogs were Arsenal blogs already at the time. I found almost 100 Arsenal blogs but then to be honest a lot of people start a blog and give up posting regularly, even among the most advanced blogs (for example Jammathon from Third Gen hasn’t posted anything in 5 months).
Mancs and Scousers have considerably less blogs but still a respectable number of them. Every other club has only a handful at best, most likely a couple.
My personal opinion is that the blogs posting every day are definitively not the most interesting ones. I much prefer `Holic’s 2-3 days rythm where the content is dictated by inspiration rather than obligation. Too much fluff for my taste on Arseblog, ACLF and Le Grove and the likes.
@BOOZY:
1) Check out Arsenal Youth, it’s the other great blog about our academy. Young Guns is more focused on the reserves while Arsenal Youth has more interest in the younger generations. I read and like both.
2) Le Grove has a lot of comments but that’s not the same thing as traffic/popularity.
3) Gunning hawk wins the site design contest but they haven’t found a community yet.
I pulled a good prank on le grove this summer, if anyone’s interested I’ll share the fun.
@Arthur: The Liverpool saga is simply riveting as is their fans reaction. If the sale doesn’t go through because of one the owner (Hicks) there’s going to be riots 😉
As for the Mancs, they still have the highest revenues of the premiership but in 2014 once most of our contracts will be unlocked (the long-term ones we consented to to get the money upfront to build the Grove but which are now terribly undevalued), we’ll be the top dog in english football.
Congrats. So why is it that there are so many Arsenal blogs? Any ideas? Can the Man Utd and Liverpool fans not afford computers?
ZonalMarking would be top for me, spot on with his tactical notes every game. But for the all round, world football side of things, think they must have missed off

This site is the bee’s knees! Anyone want to contribute? Get in touch.
Just watched Spotlight on Samir Nasri. He is quickly becoming a huge favourite of mine. I’ll be watching France tomorrow night.
Evening ‘Holic & ‘Holics. What’s the buzz in the bar tonight?
Have AOTV on in the background – Tom Watt doing his best to brighten up the events of last weekend – you gotta love him!
Barman – drinks for all please, this community deserves the best!
Re: Liverpool, I managed to cheer-up a Hammer with whom I “play” 5-a-side with last night. I told him his team would soon be above Liverpool once they get docked their 9 points for entering administration. What’s the betting spread on that scenario I wonder?
@ Matt ’48 – I’d rather we were top dog for our on-pitch performances – soon enough, eh? 😉
Evening TS. TW watering down the criticism of Alex Song, I see 😉
@True Storey: Since the beginning of the premiership, every champion had either the biggest or second biggest wage bill (not sure about Leeds). Silverware and wage bill go hand-in-hand.
Hopefully we’ll be the exception to the rule before we’re the financial top dog though.
Interesting discussion about whether or not Arshavin warrants a regular starting place. Something we have all pondered in recent weeks, I’m sure.
@ Matt – as usual, impeccable logic. Great comments, keep ’em coming please 🙂
@ ‘Holic – yes what is this anti-Song thing? Just a Le Grove led downer or are we ‘Holics in line with that too? He’s had a bit of a rought start admittedly but I always like to see him on the pitch – he mixes it up well, brings us soemthing a little different in a way that Diaby can’t. Just a little more discipline (like last year) and he’ll be back to top form. Anyone agree/disagree with that? Am I smoking my socks again?
PS: Just sent you an email which might be of use….
@ ‘Holic (again) – I’m with the sentiment on that one – heck even AA admits he’s on poor form. Competition improves the breed – if he’s not on-top form then he should be “rested” 😉
I do love him though, hope he gets his head straight again soon – when he does he always seems to do produce something exceptional. Come on The Meerkat!
Got it TS.
I’ll get back to you tomorrow if that is ok. Friday night and ATVo and a glass of something fiery is sacrosanct for me.
Hating the anti-squad on tonight.
No hurry, no worry 😉
Yes, bunch of ingrates, what’s the point? I think we’re just a bit spoilt sometimes by all the things that we do take for granted e.g. a decade plus of regular CL football. Can you imagen that lot trying to survive the lull in the 50s/60s? Tsk…
“imagine”, doh!
Can you build in a spell checker please?
Sorry, I’m a luddite 🙂
Poor old Tom desperate to talk about dirty play and nobody going for it…
Perhaps one of us should dial-in?
“The only time to see all six players on the pitch at one time” -Double Heh! 🙂
OK, the theory between silly haircuts and on-pitch performances now.
Triple -Heh!
Second week running it is becoming farcical. Such a shame, because I look forward to Fans Forum every Friday, but it is turning into Moaners Marketplace.
Is it chucking out time @ Le Grove? Meeeoowwww 😉
Before I get vilified for that, I should add that I’m a regular reader of that blog but not a contributor….
If anyone wants to win that print the answer to the question must be Matt Upson v Germany.
Andrei Arshavin is up there as one of the most brilliant players in the premier league, if he starts doing what he does on regular basis, there is no denying the fact that he can be the best, but in my opinion he is just too lazy for that. He is always looking for competition and thats what gets the best out of him, he can be a super Sub for us in my opinion.
Sagna Squillaci Vermalaen Gibbs
Song Denilson
Rosicky Fabregas Nasri
Van Persie
Have Walcott, Chamakh and Arshavin on the bench!
That Matt Scott from the Guardian can come back on every week for me. Top contribution tonight. Turned the show round.
Just thinking that! He’s real quality. Very wise head and a real Gooner too. He gets my vote…. along with that ex-pat who dials in from Canada every week.
No worries True Storey, no one will vilify you for bashing Le Groan, they’re a blog about Arsenal, not a pro-Arsenal blog.
That being said they have adjusted themselves lately, their posts are somewhat not as rabid as they were (they still lie and distort as they see fit) and they have sanitized the comment section by purging it from the serial ranters. As a result they have only around one third left of their previous average daily comments but that’s the readable ones, mostly.
Now I claim some responsability, I was so dismayed by their anti-Arsenal stance that I went in and pulled a prank in their face:
http://le-grove.co.uk/2010/07/31/milan-will-show-us-if-we-have-it-and-who-is-on-their-way/#comment-661058
They’ve been discussing the issue for quite a while afterwards and started banning and censoring the worst abusers.
Still a long way to go though…
Ah, I was too generous, they do have another anti-Arsenal post today full of outright lies. For example they compare our 2009-10 wage bill with Citeh’s 2008-09, give the example of Adebayor and Yaya Toure’s wages when they are not accounted for (they joined after the financial term they’re using their numbers from). It goes on and on. How can anyone supporting Arsenal or not fall in for this anti-Arsenal propaganda is beyond me.
No wonder they’re not in the top 20…
Matt, that was ballsy, must have taken you ages to do all that cut and pasting too 🙂
I’m sure most of the people who type abuse like that are thirteen year-old, internet warriors witha big does of wayward hormones and teenage angst. I try not to take people like that seriously but some of those comments were disgraceful, regardless of the theme of the blog.
How about a refreshing pint of continental lager to wash away the bad taste? Cheers!
After ATVo turn to iPlayer, and last weeks Pick of the Pops. Great start from the Drifters, then THE Rev Al Green…
I'm Still In Love With You – Al Green
Uploaded by vthik. – Music videos, artist interviews, concerts and more.
does not does – double doh!
Oh good grief – I give up! dose!!!!
Barman? Your strongest anti-dyslexic potion please, KO?
Now we’re groovin’! Soulful and mellow end to the evening. Cheers Holic! 🙂
Apologies to the younger readers. 1972 was a massive year for me, musically, footballistically, anything really 😉
Not really that much time, I think I copy/pasted only from the first quarter of comments or so, there was no need to be exhaustive…
I had been banned a few times already, I knew what to expect. They’re like the Pravda, they don’t like it when someone shows to the world they’re lying. I was surprised they didn’t censor that one too though.
Evening Hussain #67. Can’t agree with Chamakh Attack on the bench – that boy is strong and special in equal measure. IMHO, we need him as a nailed-on starter, week-in and week-out.
I hate to say this but RVP is a cameo player for us. Much as I’d love him not to be, he is only ever going to play a very limited no. of games in a season because of his injury issues. If I’m proven wrong I’d be truly delighted to eat huge portions of humble pie 🙂
Apologies accepted but then I’m only 10 years younger, not sure the younger ones will be so understanding 😉
Jackie Wilson now. My mind is totally off Arsenal for the next hour.
And Chamakh is the first name on the team sheet 😉
@ Matt #78
Da comrade, it’s the gulags for you. Triple vodkas and beluga caviar all round please barman. Sbasiba!
Can’t agree with Walcott on the bench either. As for Chamakh he can do with a bit of rest, it’s not like RvP’s availability will prevent Chamakh to play too often…
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could play 444?
Much better. Did you woo the management with “Mr. Excitement”?
Jackie Wilson – I Get the Sweetest Feeling lyrics
I’m getting all misty eyed again… tum te tum….
Northern Soul forever – heh!
Mott the Hoople! I loved all sorts even then. I’m gone now 😉
Didn’t we do Ian Hunter the other night?
Hawkwind, blimey Alice Cooper now. I have a feeling the number one will be a funny one, if memory serves…
Not my cup of tea, except for a few tunes like Delroy Wilson’s rendering of northern soul: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFz9UxU1UjY
Nite nite as they say here.
And it’s 1972 again – just for you ‘Holic 🙂
One off the top
Yeesss! C’mon Feel The Noize!
I was wrong. Thought Mouldy Old Dough was about then, but our Rod was number one with You Wear It Well. Good stuff. Shall I bother with October 1989?
I’d keep going to break 100 posts!
I’ll go for ’89 then as it will be more Matt’s era 🙂
Come to think of it…
B-52’s – Love Shack lyrics | LyricsMode.com
Kate Pearson…. mmmm…..
Pierson, dammit! Well, when she was younger anyway….
‘Holic? Over to you for #100?
The reason i put Walcott on bench is because he can come on late and get the right wing on fire, he cannot last for 90 minutes, well RVP as a starter, does that matter? he is hardly fit to start for us !
and that line up is for away games mostly, at home surely we can start Chamakh and Van Persie both, when they are fit.
I would love to see Chamakh and Nicky together as well though, that would be magic for Arshavin, Nasri and Fabregas!
haha Holic i took the 100th from you :P!
’89? Never…
‘Scuse me, I thought this was a music blog? What’s this talk of Arsenal? 🙂
Haha im sorry, im a little younger so i have no idea what music you guys are talking about here!
John Mayer’s Half of my Heart is my contribution for tonight !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aojTGWAqUIQ&ob=av2n
Come to think of it… 89 matches the timeline but not the musical style 😉
Top video that TS@91.
Matt – glad that it was appreciated by another – you’re very welcome. It is a bit esoteric…
Talkin’ of ’89…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=387ZDGSKVSg
Makes me think of John Candy in Uncle Buck (GRHS), classic!
Excellent find that `Holic!
But in reality it was more like that:
Thinking of then I feel old now…
Top video that TS@91.
I’ll say.
Although if it is ’72 it is early enough for me to say I was not there that night. We used to do Wigan Casino after the odd away game, but I didn’t start until 73, I’m sure.
Good stuff indeed.
Now, I’m feeling like a youngster 🙂
Never made it to the Wigan Casino. It was a supermarket car park by the time I was into Northern. I was a regular at 6Ts at the 100 Club in the mid 80s mind….
Damn, why does that link display the full video?
I suppose everyone will get to know where my jestering comes from now. Oh well…
Damn, why does that link display the full video?
Because I just embedded it 🙂
Good stuff though Matt. Wonder if I will blow my bandwidth with all these vids? Whio cares. It’s a fun night…
Just lie back and think of the back-links and the rankings 😉
Of course, there was only one XTC in Swindon…
`Holic, you’re a traitor!
Alas I have to go, have to justify all these hours I’m billing, can’t count on my customers would be too happy with a list of music videos 😉
Cheers Matt, thanks for your contribution to a good night on ‘holic.
So nobody has done a favourite memory post for me tomorrow then? Shit, we’re in trouble now ‘holics. I’ll have to think of something 😉
Steam’s gone out of my sails too….
Night ‘Holic & ‘Holics – good party here tonight – we’ll clear-up in the morning shall we?
Sounds like a plan to me TS. Thanks all.
I’ll just help myself to some of that Glenmorangie they left on the table …
Vital Arse aint a blog, but its one of the best forums out there. Deserves a mention.
@Hussain
lanat hai aap par sab ko pta hai k aap musalman ho phir bhi sharab mang rahay ho….khuda ka wasta humara naam ganda na kya karo
Sajit, indeed. Vital is run by a top fella in Rocky, and has the best match reports from Little Dutch. I bumped into him very briefly at Stamford Bridge last week.
England’s best hope is if Vucinic repeats his performance and is red carded:
Montenegro striker Mirko Vucinic, who could line up against England on Tuesday, celebrated his goal in their 1-0 win over Switzerland on Friday by removing his shorts and putting them on his head. He was booked. (from the BBC)
No word on whether Djourou was in the vicinity.
Matt, if you are still following the link then thanks for the Le Grove post. I stopped looking a long time ago (Newsnow has a hide feature that comes in very handy) and this was a good reminder WHY I stopped looking. Well done.
Apologies Holic I forgot to mention that I believe this is the best Arsenal blog ever. I don’t want to sound negative towars the others but if my own opinion counts then GOONERHOLIC IS THE BEST!
Speaking of blogging I’m doing a bit of that myself however I never get the time to update.
http://www.arsenaltalk.co.uk
Definitely different style for sure
Very nice design, Arthur. Good stuff.
Thanks Holic I do try like I said 😉
Hi ‘holics, just started watching Tanzania v Morocco late in 1st half
(one of our players is out there!!)
Anyway 40 mins in and Chammy is in a chase with goalie, and imo was tripped – no penalty but yellow for arguing
2 mins later long ball up field with Chammy backing into defender, nodded it back to colleague no 10, got it back via another header from no 10, and directed sideways over defender as no 10 ran forward to pick up and rifle home good goal
2 mins later back defending 3 corners in row, putting it out twice himself
worth watching for that 10 mins and cant wait for 2nd half
BTW Im watching on satellite, and believe may be on net as well
good hunting
quiet second half finished 1-0
slight worry Chammy was heading in defence and there was a high kick towards his head, couldnt tell if it was boot or ball off boot.
Anyway he went down for 30 seconds and was taken off a few minutes later just before the end
It couldn’t have been Chamakh, cognac, for he has been on Twitter this afternoon 😉
sorry ‘holic but it was him,
cannot comment on twi**er entries which may or may not be his – considering iphone etc apps virtually anything is possible while you are waiting for a match to start!!
look here for commentary

DC, you’re welcome. I had fun doing it I confess. I could imagine them scramble to check the previous’days comments 😉
And they started banning/censoring the worst abusers straight afterwards.
Jesus Clichy can cross after all…
Just watched France v Romania a good game I have to admit, Romania could of nicked it as well, game ended 2:0 to France, Nasri had a few good chances too.
Watched France v Roumania, most of, on french tv with commentary from AW and others
Nasri worked hard, but the French finishing was poor – Malouda who?
I did wonder at the end whether AW would (or should) comment on the horrible things Gael was doing apparently in the name of defence, and in AWs shoes I would be looking to Gibb as my left back for our next game
