The Hopeful Punt
Jan 15th, 2011 by 'holic
Just back in time for the 3pm kick-offs. I made a promise to put the ‘holic pound up here to be shot at. I’ve taken the elevens on offer at Bet 365 for a 3-1 away win.
Back later.

Access restored. Thank you ‘holic sir! Onward the hp.
That’s ‘holic pound for the uninitiated.
You’re a ledge ‘holic. I’m on it. Come on you Arsenal!
‘holic – wot do the bookies know that we dont – sounds short odds for the way we are playing at the moment
Ne’er mind come on you Reds
Thank you ‘holic.
I’m on call so will just have a soda pop please.
Cheers Holic
A pint of the black nectar all round!
Song to score on a 35 piledriver in the 1st minute. There’s a brave prediction but one that might yields decent odds if they’re on offer.
Thank you so much ‘Holic for taking some time out and post this. I would do well not to bet on the scoreline I dreamed of last night (I know, I know).
Oh what was that scorline, you ask?
West Ham 2-9 Arsenal.
A wonder goal from bendtner (I know, I know).
Heh, right foot, that would be a thing (or 9) of wonder.
As ever, 1-0 to the Arse will do me, although I would be grateful if we don’t leave it till the 92nd minute or whatever it was last time round.
COYRRRs
Come on you Reds….!
I’m hoping we’ll see and improved performance from the midweek game
A drink for everyone in the bar!
Oooo… good stream. Day made.So far.
I scored!!!! I can’t believe it.
RvP’s right foot scored!
Come on Van Persie!!!!
So wonderful going forward. So shite at the back.
Come on you Gunners.
Steve T,
Isn’t that the definition of the current squad??
Djourrou looks very unsettled at the back.
We still trying to walk the ball into the net, but the second goal has settled my nerves.
RvP very unlucky with that one which came off the post.
Lets put it to bed quickly in the second half and save Van Persie and Nasri for mid week.
Never ever thought Theo would keep his balance when he made that turn before the strike. You can say lots about our little speedster, but he does fall over quite a lot!
…even if I do remember how he kept on his feet for the assist for 0-2 against Milan.
No reason to mention that other than because it’s a very happy memory.
Cheers Holic,
Ready the subs, another 15 minutes and take Cesc, Djourou and RvP off. No need to risk them any further and give Song some play time in the back as he’s likely to figure there sooner than later, a bit of game time as CB won’t hurt.
Theo is only 21, he will be a monster in a couple of years and even now Abidal isn’t looking forward to the clash… Definitively one of our youngsters who’s making the leap this season.
He sure will be Matt. My little poke was just out of fatherly love. Also, he does fall over quite a lot 😉
He falls just right 😉
Now what’s the point of making two substitutions in the 87th minute when you’ve been up 3-0 for 20 minutes?
That’s more like it…
Absoultely right Matt – if ever there was time to spread the game time within the squad it was when the third goal went in.
AW’s substitutions baffle me most times especially the timing of them
🙁
Substitutions apart – delighted with 3 points.
A Guinness for me and a free round to everyone else in the bar 🙂 🙂
Thanks for the Guinness, zico. Next rounds on me. 🙂
sorry ‘holic but better we keep a clean sheet than 3-1 –
as recompense barman give him a double of whatever he wants
Good, professional win, hopefully steadies the ship a little before the games against Leeds, Wigan and Ipswich. And three clean sheets in a row in the league I think, enjoy that while it lasts!
Hi all,
Yeah..Wenger is not at all a good substititor!! 🙂
But, I will drink to the three points!
We have got to win the fa cup replay now..got to!
Cheers
Substitutor*
at 3-0, would have liked to see Ramsey get a few minutes on the park. Nasri is looking so sharp and good to see RVP finding some form. Clean sheet to boot. Looking forward to a few sociables this Saturday night A pint of the amber nectar please bar keep.
Evening ‘Holic & ‘Holics
Super result, was out with family during the match today so no idea how we played yet but 3-0 says a lot.
Wish I had taken a punt per BtM’s suggestion – that crystal ball of his seems to be working very well.
One consolation, whilst we were out I bumped into Stevie Bould outside the local Waitrose. Top, top fella. He even gave me an interim result of the match. I didn’t want to take too much of his time, thought of a 100 questions I could have asked him after I had wished him well and said goodbye but he was keen to point out out that he was in charge of the youth and not the reserves and nothing to do with the 10-1 defeat by Villa. What a star! 🙂
Drinks all round please barman. Hopefully the doomers and gloomers will be visiting other sites tonight as we march on in our Championship campaign.
Here’s to a 0-0 draw in the Manure vs Stratford Olympics XI match tomorrow 🙂
Still no recognition by ‘holics for RvP’s right foot 🙁
Awwww poor RVP.
Drinks for both feet from me. Do you fell better now fella? 🙂
Thank Henry TS is here 🙂 . Now That’s what I wanted to hear!
PS: Frogot to wish Snir a good game and safe travels. I guess you’ll be back in The States by the time you read this. Hope you had a great day and shouted yourself hoarse with the travelling faithful.
At the risk of sounding blasphemous – ” Come on you fucking lily whites!” !
I kind of feel bad for Snir’s countryman. I really wish him well, and I hope they don’t sack him.
Yeah, I kind of feel bad for Grant, he’s been treated rather shabbily at West Ham.
RVPRF & Charlie,
Am with you. He’s a decent manager and good at strategy but from what I hear he doesn’t have the support of the players so I guess it’s only a matter of time for him.
I wonder if he’ll get a fourth crack at being an EPL manager?
Sajit, please go and wash your mouth out with soap and water. There’s just no need for that 😉
Not sure whether Grant is a decent manager or not – but they are a classless lot at West Ham, and he has been treated shamefully.
RVPRF – nice goal with your standing foot mate 😉
Grant has had to deal with some pretty rubbish management above him – at Chelsea (runners up in CL and PL not good enough), Portsmouth (no money, docked points), and West Ham. I hope for his sake that he doesn’t end up at Liverpool.
Arsene is supposed to be good friends with Avram Grant …. perhaps he asked the team to be merciful in the second half so not to humiliate the poor guy any further!
Excellent performance this afternoon … the team made the match look like a pre-season friendly against some Austrian amateurs. RvP was looking razor sharp. Cesc was majestic and didn’t need to test his hamstring and Theo used the ball efficiently and demonstrated predatory qualities when scoring. Nasri put in a Nasri performance: nothing else to add!
We have a goalkeeper!!!
If only Eboue could manage running up the pitch quickly with his head up, looking to pass the ball to a teammate and either running on for the return ball or retreating to a sensible position, then imagine what a great player he could be. Song seemed to be covering the right back position regularly in the first half and Djourou was often exposed one on one against Carlton Cole. I bet he feels more reassured when Sagna is playing alongside him.
And finally …. at least Chris Waddle has finally shut up about Theo not having a footballer’s brain but seemed keen to prove he had done his research that Djourou played in midfield when he was 14!
Zico & Joshua
Yup, Grant has had a pretty rough ride wherever he’s been to date. Not a chance he’ll end up at Liverpool. Aston Vanilla is a more likely bet, Houllier is having a night mare.
Everyone has a nightmare at Liverpool 🙂
Oops, thought you were referring to Liverpool’s new manager. Hard to believe Aston Villa were challenging us for the Champions League spot a few seasons back.
Villa and Liverpool are competing for the prize of which team has back pedalled the most over the last two years. Feel a bit sorry for Houllier too, Villa are really dreadful this year.
That’s part 1 taken care of…. now then who’s betting on the result of Snir’s safe return to Israel? I’m dubious about the El Al security….
Must admit, Catalan, I did worry about Snir’s timetable – I’ve seen me taking up to an hour to clear security at Heathrow, and that’s just an internal flight to Edinburgh.
Hopefully, he gets away ok with a big grin on his face.
DR C & Zico,
Have gone thru’ El Al security at LHR many times. I reckon he’ll make it one way or another.
If I lose I’ll get ’em in. Fair enough?
