See That Glow Down There? That’s The Lights.
Apr 6th, 2011 by 'holic
I doubt there are too many reading who will have made our last trip to Bloomfield Road. The memory might be playing me up a bit, but I don’t think there was sufficient interest for British Rail to pull some of its old rolling stock out to act as a football special on a Tuesday night in September for a trip to a second division club.
I know I went on a Supporters Club coach, and I think only one or two ran. The third round of the League Cup was not a massive draw in 1976. A few made it up by car or van, and a few more on scheduled rail services. The match itself doesn’t live in the memory either. I did remember we drew, but had to check the record books to see it was 1-1.
The over-riding recollection is of it being an utterly foul night. Not surprisingly, as I was still a teenager (just!) I had hoped for a little stroll along the front and a few beers whilst admiring the lights. So heavy was it raining we got ourselves into the nearest pub to the ground on arrival, and after the game. At the bottom of a long road we caught a glimpse of some lights in the distance, but wild horses could not have conveyed us to the front in that downpour.
I promised myself I would go back one day. That won’t be this Sunday, sadly, as the final service for the ‘holicdad takes place in the morning. Ironically I remember him telling me, more than once, of an occasion when Arsenal played Blackpool at home in the Fifties. As the clock ticked down the Arsenal left-back Dennis Evans, thinking he had heard the final whistle, turned and kicked the ball towards his own goal. The problem was that the whistle had been blown by someone in the crowd, and Evans perfect strike nestled in the net for a goal to the visitors. Fortunately Arsenal were four up at the time, but the old man took rather too much pleasure in recounting the slap the phantom whistler took when the real final whistle signalled a 4-1 home win. Good job we won!
I may be missing the trip, but I doubt I am alone in hoping the Seasiders survive so I get another chance next season. They play with a style, maybe naive and maybe not, that deserves to see at least three other clubs finish below them. That may or may not happen.
Come back on Friday evening for the preview, possibly an homage to Ian Holloway, and the ‘holic pound.

I’ll have a small shandy please.
Have a feeling Blackpool will give us a hard game
I’m expecting goals for both sides, R. Good to see you here. Hope all is well. Any photos of said game in 76, do you reckon?
Let’s hope this time we are dancing on the waterfront …
Nice trip down memory lane there. Must confess I was in Scotland following the Dons at the time in even more foul weather.
Ollie must be delighted to have us up next. He needs the points and must be glad to see us coming! I fear that without an injection of gorilla testosterone all round, I cannot see how our boys are going to lift themselves enough to perform as needed this Saturday. Hope I’m wrong or that Arsene has found a Rwandan source of the necessary jungle juice!
This time it will be raining goals 5-2 the Arse, Hope Blackpool do stay a up they play with a flair and naivity (spellcheck) that’s endeared and is a million miles away from the Stoke alikes. Hate the Mancs but you’ve got to give it to them and the Red nosed tosser they certainly know how to win games as well as get favourable decisions,
Nice post Holic.
Turning to this weekend (it’s Sunday isn’t it, the game?) we need to stop the rot. I will settle, as ever, for 1 nil to the Arsenal.
I’m with the Guvnor though, there are a number of teams that deserve to go down ahead of Blackpool, pity one of them ain’t gonna be Stoke, but there you go.
Any Heavy Seas IPA in this here bar?
Nice one, ‘Holic – I’ll be back for the preview. Fond memories of the old man for you on Sunday.
I saw The Beatles live in Blackpool in 1963. Mum and dad bought the tickets on the day and we four sat on the stairs at the back of the Gaumont and watched as the world changed around us. Four shillings and sixpence a seat. Worth every half-pence.
…….life rolls along.
I’m in NYC, Zico. A chance for you to buy me that long promised, mythical pint?
Evening Holic
Fond memories of Blackpool, particularly 70-71 Dbl winning season,
Even though Blackpool were relegated that season, they gave us 2 very tough games.
Away at Bloomfield Rd in early November,we squeaked home with a 1 nil win curtesy of a goal from Raddy, that was a very enjoyable w/end as Dad had mates up there,so we travelled up Friday afternoon, went to the game on Saturday, did the sightseeing on Sunday and travelled home late that afternoon.
My old Man semed to have mates everywhere,as many times for the trips up North,we did the same routine, travel friday return Sunday.
Anyway, the return game at Highbury was in late March and again we only manged to win 1 nil, curtesy of one of only 2 league goals
the Storey man scored all season.
That win was the 3rd game in a run of 9 consecutive wins, which went a long way to securing us the title.
Interestingly enough, our last 2 games of that season were Stoke and the Spuds, and those same 2 teams loom large on our run in this season, and if we are really clutching at straws,or looking for omens,we also drew 2-2 at WBA late in that season as well.
Hope springs Eternal.!!
cheers
Clive
BtM – we just missed each other, brother – I flew back home on Monday night.
The offer is still there though and will happen – no more mythical than Atlantis π
I’m going to be in Edinburgh and Fife all summer and I’m sure you will be passing through in one of your globe-trotting jaunts – so give me a shout and there will be an 80 shilling with your name on it.
The Beatles eh? You definitely are one of them Time Lords.
BTM @ 7
Oh the Memories,63.!!
While you were watching the Beatles in Blackpool,i was regularly visitng a little place in Richmond called the Crawdaddy Club.
Playing there on a regular basis before they became Sooooooo famous, were the Rolling Stones.
The club was originally inside the Station Hotel, but even then as word spread about this new edgy Band, there tended to be more people outside the Joint than inside.!!
So they eventually moved the Club across to the Richmond Athletic Ground,so more people could see them.
They played there a couple of times a week,as well as playing at Eel Pie Island near Twickenham.
They were very raw in those early days, but even then you knew they had that, ‘ certain something ‘ about them.
The only reason i knew about them was because an older mate of mine worked over that way and had heard them play.
So he took me along with him to some of their gigs.
I had a copy of their very first album released in 64 titled ‘ The Rolling Stones ‘,which would probably be worth a few bob today, but unfortunately it got nicked by a Russian girl i met in 67,who absconded with said album in her suitcase when she went back home in 69.!!
Happy Days.!!
‘Holic & Clive, thanks for two very enjoyable reads, as always.
Clive, I like your (re-found?) optimism. Where there’s lfe and all that.
‘Holic, I’m with you wanting Holloway’s crew to avoid the drop. It’s not just their style of play, I like their attitude too. But I don’t want them to survive at our expense. Let them gain points in their other 6 matches, especially Spuds and Manure π
The Beatles in 63?. Don’t know too much about that. I would have been minus 2 at the time. That said I have just got in from the shepherds bush empire and a night of the pigeon detectives. Good fun I must say.
Never been to blackpool. Not sure I have ever wanted to. But I did spend a fair few years in bristol and have fond memories of Ian Holloway. I loved watching him as a player and think he has been a breath of fresh air this season. I hope blackpool stay up but I hope they are soundly thrashed on Sunday.
(continued from #3, above) … as opposed to crying into our beers, or moaning “We coulda been a contender” like Marlon Brando ….
I’d hate to lose Ian Holloway from the scene….the complete antidote to the Mourinho’s of this world (although perhaps this week I can make an exception). On Memory Lane duty ….my son was rifling through a load of my old programmes and asked what I was doing on July 30 1966. I gave the ‘if you can rmemeber the sixties you weren’t there answer’ and he showed me the Eorld Cup final programme so I told him how I went with mates and bought tickets (at face value) from touts. What did you do the next day asked the son? Confessed I had no recall of where the Sunday was spent…until he produced a programme from the Windsor rock festival – top of ther bill The Who and an early appearance by a trio who only appeared by their names in the programme – Clapton, Bruce and Baker – not as The Cream…I’d have that down as a half decent weekend.
Great music memories!
Especially like Clive’s – when I lived in Putney it was amazing to see some of the photos on the walls of The Half Moon. The bands that have played in that pub, including The Stones, The Jam, and (somewhat bizarrely) Prince?! are incredible. Still not sure I believe the Prince one though!
As far as I know, Mick Jagger still has a rather large house on Richmond Hill, so he hasn’t strayed too far from his roots.
The highlight of the Putney years, though – regularly seeing Yasmin Le Bon in Waitrose *sigh*….
for me it was the ‘Railway tavern where I saw the Who in their early days in Wealdstone, the pub is gone and replaced with flats, how we preserved music history, also Elton John at ‘The Northwood Hills Hotel’, memory lane has been activated
looneyg
You saw The’ oo? at The Railway AND you’re an Arsenal supporter? Fan-bloody-tastic. I caught them once at Wembley shortly after Moon The Loon (any relation?) died. It was supposed to be their farewell gig. Kenny J had replaced Moon – great guy but how could anyone replace Moon? They were supported by a band called the Q-Tips, their front man was a certain Mr. Paul Young (remember him?), dressed in a sharp 60s style suit.
Looks like the bar’s gone into musical memories mode. Great stuff. No dodgy substances in the medicine cabinet please π
Clive @ #10,
Oh those Russians…. π
Afternoon ‘holics,
Some sharp memories there. The Beatles ’63, BtM? I had you down for a bit younger than that…
Holic, he’s much older than you think – its due to the time-space continuum that he travels in π
zico,
Is that the same speac-time continuum that transports you from NYC to The Kingsom of Fife? Perhaps you should be nick-named Dr.Z?
* space *
Barman? A pint and a spell-checker please.
Hello ‘holics,
Oldies mingling with music talk here…
Nice..I’ll sneak in for a drink
Cheers
Afternoon ‘Holic and Afternoon all ,
Wonderful evocative piece ‘Holic , and hope all goes well on Sunday morning .
Wow – the Beatles and the Stones in ’63 – cant compete with that – the best i can come up with is The Smiths in ’84 at Reading Uni , just prior to the release of their first album . Morrissey , ever the iconoclast and sensitive soul that he was , stormed off the stage after 4 songs because someone in the audience had spat at him . From memory , PIL had played there the week before , and full audience participation was only demonstrated by large amounts of sputum . Luckily , it was a craze that lasted about as long as giant yellow inflatables .
Clive – thanks for that dip into my inaugural season . Instinct tells me i attended a number of first team games in addition to lots of reserve games that season , but the only games that i can say with certainty that i was there were wolves ( my first ) , Burnley ( my first under the lights – what was my father thinking ? ) , and , for some reason , Blackpool .
Was that Peter Storey goal you talk about a pen , or are my childhood memories playing tricks ? I distinctly remember , as i looked on through my fingers and held my breath ’til it hurt , my father looked down at me and proclaimed , with a certainty that only parental authority can bestow , that he wouldn’t miss – but maybe that was Charlie’s pen against Burnley .
Funnily enough my two sharpest memories of that season were when i wasn’t in attendance . For the Newcastle home game , my father informed me , ( a little prematurely i thought ) , that the crowd would be too big for me to see anything , and took himself off to Highbury alone , whilst I was hauled off to see ” Oliver ” with my mum and sister – a clearer case for ChildLine its difficult to imagine – especially so given that Mark Lester , who played the eponymous hero , didnt look wholly dissimilar to me at the time , and who was variously kidnapped , starved and beaten throughout the course of the film .
Still every cloud … … after a little sulking and pouting that only 6 year olds can manage , i got to watch my first MOTD , and saw Charlie first pick up a Newcastle defender by the throat , ( at which i noticed my father smile indulgently ) , and then drill one in from twenty yards .
The second , was watching Arsenal Reserves , ( marinello , Carmichael , Batson , Woodward et al ) , labour to a nil nil home draw against Spurs Reserves . As i watched the closing seconds , I became aware of a commotion in the crowd which the game did not deserve . Arsenal fans were gathered round their trannies , ( now there’s a phrase i never thought i’d write ) , and a hush had descended . Then a roar – the Dark Destroyer had just saved our bacon against the great Gordon Banks up at Hillsboro .
And finally Clive , pillow talk with Russians in ’67 ? – a tad surprised you weren’t hauled off for a polite little chat with MI6 !
TS @ 21
Similar – the difference being I look 10 years older after every trip (can’t think why) π
What’s a good sunny spring drink?
I’ll have that please. And thanks ‘holic, looking forward to the preview piece too.
Zico, heh! I’m a fully paid up member of that club π
TABS, you are wasted here. Have you considered a career on the stage? That’s just about the funniest post I have seen in the bar and the competition is fierce. Take a bow… π
Must say this blog iz a joy to read especially when u share ua memories of times gone by. Thank u Holic n holics 4 sharing. Looking forward to a better performance from the team this weekend.
TS – Thank you – Pimms all round please Barman
‘Holic
Apologies. Forgot to wish you all the best for Sunday. I’ve buried three family members in the past two and a bit years including my father so know some of what you’re going through.
Sky have just shown the form guide league table over the last 6 league games. We are actually 4th with ten points, Sunderland are bottom with 1 point. Cor, I have no idea who they got that point against but it must be a baaaaaddd team, probably someone from the Isthmian league. (Sob).
Afternoon all.
I thought it was high time to pop into this fine establishment once again to whet my whistle.
I tend to stay away from the interweb after dissapointing results, I can’t stand all the doom and gloom posts, so I’m glad to see the mood has brightened up considarable and were having a nice trip down Memory Lane rather then a bitch slog down Disaster Road.
Before my bar owning days I was a dj/mc in the house scene. I was lucky enough to be booked for a gig in the Baby’s which was a club in the Hard Rock Hotel. On the big screen outside the Hotel my name was up in lights on the same board as The Who, whom were due to perform in the Hotel a few days later, unfortunatly the gig never happened as John Entwistle was found dead in his Hotel room, a few floors above were I was staying. Pretty sureal stuff.
—-
I too hope that B’pool can avoid the drop, the players and the fans have been a credit to the club and Ol’ Ollie is as mad as a box of frogs and what he has done with that squad is just short of a miracle.
Finally, I’d like to wish you all the best for Sunday ‘holic with the final tribute to your beloved father.
It’s a nice sunny day over here and I’m in the mood for a cool pint of Cider, cheers.
Long time reader first time poster. Absolutely love the blog ‘holic. Also the comments section is without question the best of any Arsenal blog or anything on the web. The arguments are well thought out (barring the occasional Spud infiltration) and the civility is refreshing. This is all a reflection of the blogger himself.
BtM @ 7 If you are still in NYC on Sunday and don’t already know, “The Blind Pig” on 14th St is the best place to catch the Arsenal and is always full of fellow Gooners.
Make mine the black stuff please barman.
Forgot to say – can’t wait to see your piece on Ollie (the manager, not the globetrotting fixer of problems).
H2H – I’ll join you in that cider. Not had one for years, so let’s see what memories it evokes!
30 degrees and sunshine here. Which means that the solar powered dolly factory is at maximum output.
Here you go CG, as long as it doesn’t trigger any Wurzel related memories. π
Salud.
Ha! Slight change in music quality there….
I spent an alcohol fuelled week with a group of friends in Blackpool, back in 76 I think. I remember the fun fair with roller coasters (where your life expectancy was measured in minutes) that these days would break every safety regulation known to man.
Went to my first strip club! It was owned by the boxer Brian London and he was in the foyer and we got talking to him for ages about his boxing, and he was an ok bloke and gave us little tickets that gave us free drinks all night. Can you imagine, being a teenager with free drinks in a strip club!!!
Memories, such memories.
I tried to get tickets for the Stone Roses famous Blackpool gig there in 89, but couldn’t get any. That was smelly.
What on earth is happening? England’s got all the fair weather and it’s been cold, windy and pissing rain for days here in NYC. Not only that, but everyone’s bowels seem to be manufacturing bricks over the thought of playing the Tangerines by the seaside? I think the world’s gone topsy-turvy.
Despite the poor showing on Saturday, I haven’t given up all hope. The title may seem to be slipping away, but I think there may be some fight left in this side. I’ve got a good feeling about us getting a convincing result on Sunday, although it’s sad that it has to come at the expense of Holloway’s charges. Blackpool have performed admirably this season and it would be a true shame to see them relegated while the likes of Stoke hang around, poisoning the beautiful game at every turn.
Pint of the Guinness Extra Cold please, barman.
Bearded, thank you, and welcome. Not a bad bunch, the ‘holics, are they?
Missing Cusop of The Mighty Spurs last seen bragging on these very pages if found please return to his seat at Holics bar I miss his wit and charm π And I’d most like to hear his explanation on Tuesdays goal fest !!
BG@33,
The tardis has left the city BG – but the coordinates of The Blind Pig on 14 th visit are fixed in for my next visit. I’ll look forward to that and plan to see you there before the end of the season.
Ah, ah, ah…..the mercurial Zico, will o’ the wisp when there’s a pint to be financed. You will be giving reinforcement to the myth if you’re not careful.
The Diggers in June or July sounds favourite at the moment
: – )
r of g @ 38 – after your hospitality on Saturday, good sir, the Guinness is on me. (PS I posted on your wall on the FB page – genuine offer of beer!!)
Much as I was disheartened at the showing on Saturday, I have dusted myself down and am looking forward to watching the famous red and white on Sunday.
Happy train is leaving the station – eternal optimists and suicidal doomers welcome to board now – we all know it could be worse – like waiting 50 years for a glimpse of the title π
BtM – I have witnesses – one at 38 for one.
Only a windfall of humongous proportions will prevent me being in the vicinity of the Diggers in June or July, and if that happens I’ll come to you!
In the interim, a drink for our resident scribe(s), barman.
TBS @ 24
My little Russian goddess was working as a Nanny for a very posh mob who had a large house near Richmond Park.
She originally came out for a holiday and ended up staying for 4 years.
I count my blessings that for almost 3 of those years i woke up alongside her.!!
It wasn’t only my first Stones album that she took back with her to Moscow, she also took my heart,my soul,my blood,my bones, and nearly my life as well.
The flame still burns ever brightly even after 42 very long yrs.!!
I remember Natalia still, as if it was only yesterday, she was the great love of my life, and nobody has held a candle to her since.
‘holic @ 39
Without a doubt ‘holic. The next one is on me.
BtM @41
Looking forward to it. In the meantime thanks for the positivity and perspective.
The Jam at the Half Moon? Now that is a gig I wish I had been at. Saw The Who at Shepherds Bush in 99. That was a great little gig.
Bit worried about these little spudies. On Tuesday night I had non stop messages. Until about 8pm. Then nothing. Stunned silence. Is there such a thing as the Tottenham Triangle? A very mysterious disappearance don’t you think? I hope they are all okay?
Evening all. As the subject of the LWC’s defeat has resurfaced, did anyone else sit as bemused as I at Jamie Redknob’s desperate attempt to explain where it had all gone wrong for the Spuds.
Apparantly, Lennon dropped out so late that all the players had to pick up different opponents at set pieces, to those they had worked on in training. (Did Adebarndoor train with Sp*rs then, just so they could practise marking him ??!!.
Any road up, the implicit suggestion here was that had he not withdrawn at the last moment, Lennon would have been marking Adebayor. So, that would have all worked out ok then!
One day the bloke will think before he opens his motorized norf and sarf – but don’t hold your breath.
More good wishes here for Blackpool in their relegation fight – just not this weekend.
Personally, I’m hoping one Alec McLeish snatches the last ticket to the Championship right out of ‘Ollies hand in the last minute of the last game of the season.
CWGS54, But was she an Arsenal fan??
Any news on schezzer’s scan, holics?
zico, keep a seat for me on the happy train!
Great to read all the stories about great gigs in the past. I guess growing up in the northern parts of Sweden doesn’t give you too much in the way of “I saw this great band when they were unknown”…
Lars – come on; Roxette, Abba, ace of Base (or something!), and you’re close to Aha land….!
Use your imagination man!
Roxette? Ace of Base? Could someone please pass me a bucket? π
Morning ‘Holics!
Clive @ #45,
She sounds very special but part of your description had me wondering if she was a supplier to Dr. Frankenstein’s Body Emporium… π
Zico @ ‘#43,
‘Think I’ll apply for the job of driver if glennw will complete his training (sic) schedule. In case the worst happens on Sunday, there’s a line back, I’m told, that passes ever so close to a cliff top or two.
Lars @ #53,
The bucket is under the medicine cabinet, next to a stack of Scandinavian “Stars on 45” CDs.
Harsha ‘ @ #50,
Pravda.com has been cloaked in darkness all week, so new official news of our fearless Pole has been forthcoming. All may become clearer on Le Boss’ pressie this afternoon. Here’s hoping he’ll back between the sticks very soon.
Mid-morning coffees/infusions.alcoholic liveners or whatever please Mr.Barman and one for yourself.
I’m off to the seaside for a long weekend with The Storey Family ‘Holics (no, not Blackpool) so in an exceptionally good mood this morning π
Dr.C @ #34,
Apparently, the weather on the south coast this weekend, here in England, might just call for some sunblock for the kids.
A storming (sorry) result on Sunday would complete the picture of an excellent weekend.
Hope Baby C is allowing you the odd hour of sleep or two?
Very good and interesting article on Arsenal Arsenal blog today about the “Messi Effect”. I think a lot of us will agree with it. Rude to post a link, so you can google it!
π
TS – S Coast? Where are you?
Baby C is most certainly not letting me sleep! That’s okay, though, it’s her job….
Friday lunchtime pint coming up..
No problem with links here, Catalan, within reason of course!
Arenal Arsenal and ‘holic share a lot of readers. I thought I had linked to them, but it appears not. I’ll do that now.
http://arsenalarsenal.wordpress.com/2011/04/08/the-messi-deception/
Cheers Holic – I know you don’t mind usually, but rude to assume.
Some very good points made in that article.
Very much looking forward to any words you have to describe Ian Holloway!! Not sure words can do justice to his removal from reality. Fantastic character.
My pint seems to be above half full again. Such is the curse of the optomist.
Popped in to see if the beer is still nice and tasty, it’s a bit shaky now the spanner has fallen into the crankshaft and Harrys got a bit more twitchy
Cusop, Just imagine how twitchy Harry will get as manager of England if he is already this twitchy managing a small club like Spurs!
Our care in the community case has arrived.
Does the roman numeral “L” mean anything to you Cusop? (And no, its not the aggregate score of your quarter final with Madrid).
Just askin’.
Good lot over at Arsenal Arsenal various views – but expressed with respect for each other bit like here really – Used to post a fair bit on there but work dictacts i cannot spend my working day on the internet anymore π
Cusop – Floor with a thud springs to mind !!
Happy train appears headed in several different directions this weekend, what with TS headed south and all, but the most important happy train is the one headed to and from Blackpool. Best also to you ‘holic and let’s hope the Arsenal give a performance for ‘holicdad too.
Afternoon ‘Holics ,
Clive @45 – an epic tale of love thwarted by the Iron Curtain , can i respectfully make an offer for the film rights ? I can see it now … celebrity gooner Paul Kaye in the title role , and the lovely Mila Kunis ( google her ) as the nanny torn between the Motherland and the love of a good man .
Lars @51 – what no early stories of the trials and tribulations of Bjorn , Benni , Agnetha and Frieda ? Saw ” Bjorn Again ” one new years eve about 15 years ago , and as my flares flapped in the breeze and i gazed at the nordic beauties in the crowd , i felt a deep yearning to be swedish .
I experienced pretty much the same sort of feelings , some years later in Cardiff , when the flame-haired trickster , banged one in against the Chavs !
TS @54 – always a pleasure to read your posts mate – i wish you a lovely weekend , screaming at Punch and Judy , and traipsing round the miniature village – ( or is that my own childhood memories intruding again ? ) .
Right , there’s a donkey called Shawcross chugging up and down Blackpool Beach , with my name on it .
Good Weekend All , and ‘Holic my thoughts and Best Wishes go with you for Sunday morning .
Arsene comes out fighting in his press con and says he’s ready to sign up as arse manager for the next 20 years .
That’s worth a glass of celebratory krug for all those currently in the bar ! Cheers
TABS – that will not see universal celebration, not even in this fine hostelry.
I personally would like to see some snarling, defiance from some of the first team and an indication that AW knows how to instill it.
To be fair I haven’t heard the press conference – but we do really need more than soundbites and platitudes.
We need INTENT.
(Intent is a scottish word for “rocket up the backside if you don’t get your finger out, son).
I’ll take the Krug, just the same π
point taken , Zico , but im still celebrating , the sands they are a-shifting and i sense renewed hope in the Gooner heartland – chink , chink !
Zico, Intent is indeed what is on the docket, but the acronym (RUTBIYDGYOS) of the English phrase is a bit unwieldy to catch on. Barman, please a glass of Krug with an intent cocktail, please.
TABS, I was only a very little boy when Abba started out. I wasn’t born until 1973 (which, I understand, makes me one of the youngest in this bar!) so no stories of Agnetha or Frieda, I’m afraid.
But we do have lots of beatiful girls here in Sweden, that much is true!
TS, thanks for pointing me to the sick bucket. It came in very handy, and it saved me from having to clean the floor in the bar!
8 ball – you missed an “F” – always the gentleman π
Lars, I never saw an Abba concert but did attend a U2 concert in Washington, D.C. in the early nineties when in the middle of one of their songs they inexplicably broke into an Abba song, and surprisingly it worked, sending the energy level in the stadium up several notches. Maybe they also did this at their other concerts back then, but I certainly wasn’t expecting it and started appreciating Abba’s music after that point.
Zico, pardon moi!
8ball: I think they (U2) did that on every concert on that tour – I’m not a U2 fan but I had a friend at the time who was fanatical about them and spoke about them all the time. When they played in Stockholm, BjΓΆrn and Benny even joined them on stage and played an Abba song. And speaking of Abba, I have been told that Benny is an Arsenal fan – might be true, might not.
Lars, If Benny is an Arsenal fan then how can we lose? And does that explain how we got Ljungberg?
Oh just read Wengers ramblings he’s lit the fuse in a much more succesfull way than Mr Fawkes managed- Duck, fireworks are coming lol
Hello people. Sorry am late. Just in from the carvery. About to write on a full stomach. Apologies.
TS @ 54
Tha’t what it felt like when she left,
I was an empty shell for a long time afterwards.
TABS @ 65.
A very irate, shady dealing Moscow father was the reason for departure back to Motherland.
Having gone on holidays for a six month stint as a Nanny, being AWOL for 4 years was just not acceptable to him.
A visit from a couple of Daddy’s ‘ Friendly ‘ local contacts, convinced her that it was in her best interests to return to the bosom of the Family.
Thanks for your heart felt concerns!! Well lets see which banana skin trips up who this weekend.
Good to see you Cus.
You may want to change your moniker. Word is with no new stadium, and no Champions League wonga, you have to sell and pray you don’t fall into a financial abyss.
Shame π
It’s a conspiracy theory put put by Fabian news papers
Nice victory! Welcome three points
I’ll have a pint, please
