Thierry Denied – A Picture Special
Aug 2nd, 2011 by 'holic
It wasn’t only the referee who denied Thierry Henry his final wish at the Grove on Sunday. The great man had an opportunity to score the goal that would have brought the loudest cheers of the afternoon denied by a fine save from Wojciech Szczesny.
Now you will have seen the rather grainy image of the goal in yesterday’s piece which was shot with my somewhat limited Nokia 5800. It just about captured a moment, but the hands of our very own Bergkamp’s the Man were holding a far more sophisticated bit of equipment, and he captured the free-kick in two very impressive clicks.
About this point everybody was saying, “right hand post Wojciech, WOJCIECH, RIGHT”. We’ve seen it before, haven’t we?
Fortunately Thierry’s aim was not quite as accurate as BtM’s, and the future legend denied the living legend.
Great snaps though maestro, and thank you for the ‘exclusive’.

great shots.
Good pics Btm .
My earliest posting yet. Wahey!
Oh and nice shooting too. BtM I mean, not Henry. Although it does look like a dangerous free kick too.
This is a big season for Szczesny.
Holic, I copied my comment from the previous post cos I’m really having a hard time figuring this out and would be glad if you could explain one last time.
Holic – Let me make sure I got this right.
You’re saying the kitty includes the money that goes on wages and (if I understood correctly) we could pay for Gervinho and Jenkinson but would need to sell in order to buy more (assuming Mata and Nasri is a straight swap since transfer fee and wages are practically identical)?
If that’s the case then where is the progress and financial growth the board has been talking about? We still need to sell in order to buy just like in the last couple of years.
I might be misunderstanding the whole thing but it seems weird to me we only had 13M£ + wages to start the summer spending with.
Special drink for tabs for leading me to this new post 😉
By the way apparently FCB came in with a 37£ offer (32€+5€ variables+5€ from a paycut in wages=42€/37£). Have a feeling that’d do.
Although I’ve heard they wanna pay in payments and I’m not sure that’d be accepted.
Really don’t know how to take this. Want this saga over but I’m not sure I came to terms with him leaving yet.
Snir, really last word from me on the subject until there is movement. Look at the price (and salary) of the targets. There is insufficient funding left (not no funds at all) to sign one of them.
Sounds like there is movement on Cesc’s pay-off, so his fee plus Bendtner’s, should seal two of the three. I would suggest to you at this stage only one of the defenders is likely.
Unless Nasri…

Great photo BtM. My 11 year old son is an aspiring keeper and I will share this with him as a training photo. SZCZ positioning is actually pretty good perhaps a step more to his right but he is peering around the wall and crouched down. He is a big and quick lad and got over well. My son being only 4′ 9″ I know I cannot coach height but this is a good snapshot of shuffling feet and leaving the ground extended. I will use this with my team.
My pleasure Ollie . Cheers for the Beer .
Afternoon lads.
Nice shots BtM, crystal clear too.
I was away from the computer all day yesterday, behalf from checking a few updates here and there. (day off + nice weather + party with open bar = waking up a bit red and green at the same time today) So I have no idea what the Mata is with the Juan deal, but it seemed like a bit of a storm in a teacup that somebody had been playing keepy uppy with knee jerk reactions to me.
A Bloody Mary please, while I sift through the few hundred drimks and various other news outlets. A drinky poo for the lads too.
Great photos. I think the big different between SZCZ and our other keepers is that no one seems to care when SZCZ makes a mistake. Since it doesn’t affect him, it doesn’t affect us as we’re reassured by his confidence (except at Le Grove where we need to sign Given, Steklenberg, and Buffon just so we have cover…)
Shame Henry couldn’t pull on the red and white again. Damn FIFA
I thought it was going in at the time. Great pictures.
I agree NS Gooner – and Holic had it right with “and the future legend denied the living legend”.
Contrast Chezzer’s reaction after taking out (fairly but comprehensively) Bale last season. A little wink to the lads, and all was ok. Fabianski (decent number 2) would have probably been apologising profusely and ordering flowers for poor little Gareth.
And apologies (I know the rule Holic) for my part in the Mata saga yesterday. My nerves have obviously reached breaking point. I’ll stick to the cricket for the next few weeks.
Number one in the world…..
Thanks holic for clarifying. It just seemed weird tO me that they do have money for one of the targets and they didn’t bid when they knew of about a clause expiring but Mata’s dad clarified by saying we did bid, we just got rejected 🙂
It is frustrating watching the same mistakes being made and it appears that we will be playing the same style and as we move into August without the summer of signings we seemed to have been promised the anxieties will grow. However slow down remember we are Arsenal supporters and we will love our club regardless of who is wearing the shirt though we will vent and rant at every misplaced pass and when the CB slips and lets some bastard in or the left back plays everybody on as we wave our hands in the air like we just don’t care for the flag that is not coming. That is what we do. Fancy being Liverpool right now and the 20 or so goals they have conceded this pre-season. i am sure they will be better come kick off as will we.
It didn’t always go right-hand post!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT5mU-Fz1fk
By the way re Cesc fee. From what I gathered from around the net, he’s supposed to get a “loyalty bonus” for getting sold in the middle of contract which is about 4M£ (10% of contract).
If he foregoes that that would take the deal to 41£, it’d be interesting to see what AFC would do with an offer like that.
Woj is famous!! 🙂
http://t.co/ONGUn2M
By the way, I know LeGrove are moaning counts but do they have any reliable sources at the club?
Someone just retweeted a tweet of theirs that Cesc has been training with the team over the past week and the club expect him to be at the members day on Thursday.
What do you think guys?
It was a nice picture pof henry and he was indeed the king of Arsenal. lol
Afternoon Chums,
Nice, refreshing post ‘Holic. Thanks for changing the tempo and focusing on some neat pics of real football being played with real players at The Home of Football. BTW, your ‘transfermatics’ makes perfect sense to me. Don’t know what all the fuss is/was about 😉

From the previous post:
BtM – Prof Edwin has asked me to thank you for your kind words and was wondering if that fancy photographic kit could be adapted into a smart rear view system for the HT Mk II to keep an eye on the chasing pack. He doubts, however, that the optics have a wide enough angle to include the locos from the LWCs and Mugsmashers. Sounds reasonable to me…
Dr.z/F – Great news on the tickets!!! So, it’ll be ‘knees up muvva braan’ in The Tollie post match. Should be a hoot.
tabs/WS – Get those JCs polished for the 20th mate. Orange Speedos, however, might necessitate the need for an umbrella for one 😆
Charlie – A couple of great posts esp. the one about all that 4th-hand BS that the D&G’ers are now taking as gospel, sad really. 🙄

Dr.C @ #16 – Magnum 45 back in it’s holster now tiger? 😛
H2H @ #12 – Cheers for the drink. Pint of Peroni please barman.
Hi Holic,
can you send me an email. Thinking of
doing an away travel blog/write up this year.
May have a question or two.
Cheers
(edit: Tommy, contact me at gooner(at)goonerholic(dot)com)
Snir @ #21
My thoughts: They’re moaning c*nts 🙂
TS. In the holster, but still loaded! 🙂
Well done ‘Holic. I see Jimi lost his Woodstock magic and he exited stage left. Edwin’s working on a BBB zapper for the bar BTW. It works just as well on LWC interlopers but it has a pets filter apparently 😉
Dr.C @ #26,
In which case, I had better buy you a drink and give you first dibs at the CMC today….
Loaded gun. CMC open. What could possibly go wrong? A trip to Vegas perhaps?
TS , Afternoon , see you on the 20th . I shall of course be speedoed up . What’s that you say … ? Umbrella for one ? Mais non Monsieur , a red and white ladies parasol , now you’re talking …
http://www.ladiesemporium.com/store/001092.php?__utma=1.1281057129.1312294778.1312294778.1312294778.1&__utmb=1.1.10.1312294778&__utmc=1&__utmx=-&__utmz=1.1312294778.1.1.utmgclid=CJjx-P7msKoCFUVO4QodO1se9Q|utmccn=(not%20set)|utmcmd=(not%20set)|utmctr=parasol%20ladies&__utmv=-&__utmk=60054957
Afternoon Dr C , is that a loaded gun in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me ? 🙂
TS@ 21 – agreed , and more .
*Looks up, sees several sky-diving Elvises heading our way*
TABS. It’s a loaded gun.
😉
*zips mouth and backs away from the scary man with the loaded gun * 🙂
TS!
Bringing over a drink for you from the previous post:
“I thought we were expecting TS in the pins too, but it looks like I was misinformed.
Didn’t get this from the press though.”
Heh tabs @ #30 😆
*Has mental picture of ‘The Ladies’ a la Little Britain*
Also, regarding the events pictured above, I was quite happy to start a ‘Wojcieh Szczesny’ chant to the tune of ‘Thierry Henry!’.
There was, hmmmmm, at least one person in our posh section who sang along with me.
I know the name doesn’t roll off the tongue, but I think that works OK.
Ah thanks Ollie. Explains the text on Sunday. Would have gone but got chance to help a good friend keep the hours up on his PPL. Had a very pleasant day including sun, fine company, good food and drink and not a boo to be heard 😛
They’re better not be any BBBs near me for the Mugsmashers or I’ll scratch their eyes out and hit them with my parasol.
If you’re gonna start that chant Ollie , I’m definitely gonna need my parasol 🙂
TS@35 – you old flatterer you 🙂
Haha, tabs, good point 😀
TS and tabs, mos def beers on 20th – I’ll e-mail the Professor to sort out logistics.
BtM, I am assuming you weren’t carrying that piece of camera kit in Diggers – wouldn’t want pictures of Dr Feelgood entering into the public domain before the IPO 😉 oh and lovely shots of the great TH14 – brings back great pangs of nostalgia.
Now, where did I put my parasol, my loaded gun and my bubble wrap suit?
BTW, another great post from Blogs as well today.
*wonders if he’ll read this and so look favourably on his competition entry*
They’re over here zico, by Edwin’s prototype BBB Zapper.
BtM, Your photos of SZCZ increase my confidence in his abilities to come up with the goods. Good job and good evidence. 🙂
Personally I’m not too bothered by the non-signing of Mata but I will be bothered if we don’t address our defensive needs in short order.
*comes up gasping for air*
Woah, what a load of negativity flying about over a friendly and a rumour. Some sad and shameful stuff. I’m not gonna comment on the transfer speculation, because that’s just an exercise in futility. I do however have an opinion on the embarassing boo-ers.
It was a friendly, ffs, but that just makes it worse. I personally don’t see the point of going to the stadium to boo your team. Please don’t give me the “they paid good money” bollox either, nobody put a gun to their heads and forced them to attend. Ofcourse I understand their “right” to show disgruntlement, but I seriously question if they have an inciling of what it means to be a supporter.
I really couldn’t give a rats behind about how things are done in other sports or nations., I thought we as Brits were always brought up to support your team through thick and thin and learn to take the bad times with the good with grace. Mabe the culture has changed since I’ve been away, with the “I want it all and I want it now” generation. But booing your own team is just classless.
@ H2H
…. and selfish, thoughtless, immature and totally counter-productive. I think tabs also covered this well last night.
From previous drinks;
167Goonerholic
By big club in Spain you mean the only two that can win things? Spain is Scotland with more fans.
—
I agree mate, it won’t be long before the two leagues amalgimate with Rangers and Real playing in the Rabbie Burnsabeu stadium and Celtic and Barca sharing the Och Aye De Nou Camp.
He did indeed TS, just wanted to chuck my tuppence worth in as it is something that annoys me no end,
Tuppence well spent H2H 😉
😆 Heh @ # 45 😆
I think zico might also have something to say about that?
…balls, I meant #46 🙄
TS @45 and H2H @47 – we are of like mind on the booing . Zero tolerance . Beers on the Bar boys .
Dr Z@40 🙂
When I saw Szczesny stop Henry, I was sure we were going to beat those Austrian corporate whores masquerading as tough streetwise New Yorkers — as those of us from New York or (in my case) New Jersey imagine them to be.
Alas, “my local club” (who Arsenal led me to, not the other way around), like Arsenal, is never more vulnerable than when they’re up by only one goal; but, unlike Arsenal, never, ever gives up. Henry’s got to be wondering, “What the hell has happened to Arsenal? It wasn’t like this when I was here.”
Tabs and TS, can I third that? It’s childish and probably has the opposite effect to the intended one.
Long cold cocktails for you both as it feels like the Carribean today.
Following on from H2H, I was amazed I had to queue for an hour before entering the Online Box Office at last to get my ‘smashers ticket this morning.
I thought that’s a lot of people paying Cat A price just in the hope of booing 😉
Drink for you. I was bemused too.
The press’ reaction to it was overall quite pathetic too.
Bah.
Camberwell, I’m not even sure what the ‘intended effect’ is supposed to be.
Cheers for the beers lads.
Slowly but surely, I’m going from to 🙂 I think I may even take it easy today, *famous last words*
Don’t do it H2H, you’ll only regret it 😉
Cheers Camberwell. I think WS is quite fond of anything with an umbrella in it or on it….
Cheers tabs @ #50.
Ollie @ #53, bah indeed! Still, that’s another ‘Holic in or around the Tollie on 20th. Good stuff 😀
Nice one Ollie, I do agree that the press just add gasoline to an already burning fire, but still, I was prettty surprised at the crowds reaction at the end of the match.
To those that understand or condone the booing, don’t get me wrong, I was just as dissapointed as you that we didn’t win the tourny, but I thought on a whole that we played a nice game/pre season kick-about. We were well on top before Le Boss decided to give some fringe players a chance, the first team did more then hold their own. maybe that’s scant consoulation in your eyes for not winning, but to boo your own team just seems, well, kinda chavy,
TS @ 46 – the less said about the bullying clubs in both countries, the better in my humble op, as the esteemed Clive Waterman put it, I wouldn’t kiss any of them with leper’s lips 8)
Ollie, according to some rather unpleasant types I had the misfortune of encountering yesterday, the intended effect is to bring about change and express displeasure to the club. By, er, buying tickets. Beats me too.
Hello Boo boys, just read the independents bit of Journo. Sounds like you guys are really taking preseason seriously, you are practicing perfectly for the league coming 3 RD in your own cup competition. You do know the perm will be harder than playing boca juniors and bunch of Yanky doodles..
So what are the odds that this will be the season that St. Totts day will never rise or be seen.. It’s cup year for us so we had our practice in SA and it all went to plan.
VDV will score all our goals and we will use Defoe for the odd tap in..
Gallas has been a great addition to the club. We might even take the mighty mojo from Togo next.
PIP I’m off for a PIMMS.. Enjoy the photos Holic.
“VDV will score all our goals”
Good for him, it’s nice to finish a season with a tally of 12.
Now run along and give the windows of the HT a good licking. There’s a good Spud.
Just as I’m about to tuck into my long Gold cocktail – cheers Camberwell – an unwanted distraction turns up .
Afternoon Cus . Hard Perm ? Last time I saw one of those was Charlie Nich in 85 .
St Totts day in Feb .
H2H @57.
That’s the other thing indeed. The old ‘typical, can’t defend can’t even hold a lead in a pre-season friendly, Koscielny is shite’, etc.
It’s not exactly like the subs were an indication of what would happen at 1-0 up against, say, Man U, and I don’t think we were badly exposed when what looks like the current first choice defence was playing.
Yes, we did lack urgency in that second half, it was quite boring, but the booing was amazingly ‘out of context’.
I’m quite ‘anti-booing’, but in this particular case, I can’t even come close to understanding the rationale for it.
I must say those pictures are really great BtM, thanks for sharing!
Me neither Ollie.
Directly after the first game I posted that I would reserve my judgement ’til after Sundays match, because I felt Arsene was trying a bit of a mix and match with the team.
Sundays team was a lot more balanced and had the look of something resembling what you would expect to see on show in a competitive game. It was plain to see that the brakes were on, I feel (but this is just a hunch) that the early knock took by young Jack also had an influence on the way we played. I think a lot of the lads held back, why on earth would they want to risk being injured.
I was impressed by Afobe, the lad gave it a good go, I was also happy with Gervinihos contribution. I like the way that he attacks down both wings and I thought he and the afore mentioned interchanged well. To be honest, in the first hour the only real negative (behalf from Jack’s knock) was our failure to finish off other chances, but as this (in my eyes) was no more then a kick about, it wasn’t the end of the world.
The last portion of the game, we did look a little disjointed, but what the hell do some people expect when so many “first teamers” are replaced by “back ups”.
So we didn’t win the “It matters not a jot cup”. Boo, fuckin hoo, The end is nigh, we’re dooooooommmmed, sell him and sack him, hit the panic button and lets run around like headless chickens as we boo and bleat and spew vitrol on the blogosphere.
Or alternetively. we can see this for what it really is. (which many of you esteemed drinkers did) A pre-season kick about to see some new faces, pay homage to an old one, and have a nice day out with friends, family etc,
A drink from the top shelf for the real supporters please.
A bucket of luke warm toilet water and sour grapes for the BBB’s. (half empty of course)
Booing your team contradicts you being a supporter in my opinion
Don’t boo, express your discontent in some other way
Write an Arsenal blog…there aren’t many
Oh
Has Gallas been that good for the Sp*ds? Really?
You have to factor in his competition, Harsha.
If you took apart King and Woodgate you probably couldn’t even form one half decent semi fit player when you put them back together.
According to BBC Sport website Arsenal are the most expensive club to support at 44 quid per match day. Is this what they are booing about? I don’t think so. On the other hand, the least expensive are Rotherham of League Two. If you can afford a ticket to get there, that is. Last I heard it was not too expensive walk down to the local pub, buy a pint or two and watch the game on the telly. Nobody booing down there, either. Low-tech solutions work every time and keep me happy. 😉
Cusop @ 60 – the odds are about 13,983,816 to 1 – as likely as you or I winning the national lottery.
In recognition of your ongoing pain though, at least with the lottery, the numbers don’t go up to 50 😉
Odense (remember playing them?) join Udinese on the list of possible European Cup qualifying opponents. Rubin Kazan and Twente look likely to join them (along with the winners of Standard Liege and FC Zurich), we’ll find out soon enough!
Zico @ 70.
I think you are being a bit mean to poor old Cusop,
At least he makes the effort to pop in now and again, even though he is a windup merchant.
I suspect he visits us,because he knows that on Holic’s blog, unlike the Spuds sites,he will find intelligent life forms.!!
Unfortunately for both Clubs, neither of them pay mega wages,so the Spuds are in a similar position to us when the wealthier clubs start waving loads of dosh about.
A couple of seasons ago it was Berbatov and Adebayor to name a couple, now it is Modric for them and Fabricated and Nauseous for us.
It just seems to happen every season in some form or another.
With only 10 days to go till the season kicks off,it doesn’t do the Club any good to have this uncertainty still swirling about.
I’m sure the players that are staying aren’t enjoying th constant speculation, they just want the whole messy fucking soap opera to end so that they can get on with playing Football.
Cheers
Clive
Good evening chaps. Just turning in after a pleasant few bottles with the father-in-law. All is well in the world now. Despite not having a clue what he was saying 50% of the time.
I assume you have all done a similar job here? Jolly good. Carry on and Don’t Panic. * takes some of own medicine*
I, too, would like to register my appreciation of Cusop’s sociability. Could we start a fan club, Clive? Or just take him along on the HT?
H2H – Please email me (holic’s got the address).
Amazing photos! Wish I was there to see the game live but it was good seeeing Henry the King of Highbury back with us…I can’t believe people booed but I guess this is the way of the world now. It doesn’t help the performance in any way and it makes it worse so I would never do it or condone booing my own team…
I’m going to read all of the drinks now but in the meantime a round of whatever you fellas want to drink is on me.
@H2H, yes, McNulty is a twat and a terrible writer. I started pulling him up on his hypocritical nonsense but it was taking up too much time and stressing me out too much so I just stopped…the Beeb is filled with tabloidesque, jingoistic blogs now so I just ignore most of what’s on there now…
CWGS54 and Dr. C, Your concessions to Cusop, although undeniably good-hearted, seem to have ground the drinks to a screeching halt. Did Cusop plan this strategy? Is he in his lair at this very moment, celebrating the completion of his dastardly mission? 😯
CoR, I didn’t see you there. Welcome and cheers!
BT8 @ 77
I don’t think Cusop’s mental capacities stretch as far as having or knowing what a Strategy is.!!
I just think all the Holic bloggers took their sleeping pills last night,
Because with all the stress of the upheaval at the Arse at the moment
none of them have been sleeping well and they all needed a good nights kip.!!
cheers
clive
Clive @ 70 – zero tolerance and all that.
No drinking overnight by Snir and others? 😯
I meant Clive @ 72 of course 🙁
Morning All
To our gloating little pet @ #60
Another lovely admission, just like any small club would make, that an old journeyman pro (an Arsenal reject no less) is the “just like a new signing” that’s going to help a thin squad kick-on esp. when it’s failed to sign anyone decent this summer. Let’s face it, no up-and-coming star wants to play footie in a crumbling dump, populated by delusional marsh-creatures where there’s not a chance of CL football for say, the next 10 years?
Oh, and by the way, the next FA Cup final is in 2012 so I guess that means another 10 years before you’re even going to get a chance to win that piece of silverware as well, hey ho. Just to remind you, in 2011 (yes, the year with a one in it) the LWCs were dumped out of the FA Cup by another London club of a similar size.
Maybe this is the year when Old Twitchface replaces The Italian and finds his true calling as manager of England, only to leave another small club in his wake, rudderless, destroyed financially and facing another 50 years of failure? I’ll drink myself under the table to that.
I’m with tabs and zico. St.Totts day in Feb (latest) and zero tolerance towards LWCs. Give no quarter, expect no quarter.
FOYS FIOS.
Morning Harsha @ #81
Well observed. The end is obviously nigh….
Come back Snir & Stingy. We Europeans need something to read first thing 😉
Clive @ #79,
Spot on mate! I had a very early night last night, just what the Dr (z?/C?/F?) ordered.
What stress and upheavel??? 😀
TS @ 85
Why did the Dinasour cross the road.??
Clive at #86
Because he went-and-saur-us???
TS @ 87
That’s not the answer.
My 9 yr old grandson asked me,and he’s looking at me like I’m a Dinasour, because i don’t know the fecking answer.!!
Ah! Sorry I can’t be of more help. I’d still wager it has ‘saurus’ in the answer though 😉
Morning All ,
Clive – Because chickens didn’t exist yet . Boom , boom .
Tabs @ 90
You smarty pants.
That apparently is the correct answer.
Although No 1 Grandson has noted that i had to get help for the answer.!!
cheers
clive
PS how far away is BTA final episode.
unlike any other blog…..!! 🙂
… it refreshes the part other blogs cannot reach
Not sure , Clive , know what i want to write , just a matter of getting it on the page – weekend i should think .
I’m off for a bit – drinks of your choice on the Bar fellas .
Cheers tabs, have fun… there’ll be one waiting for you when you get back.
Clive, Tabs, My 7 year old will appreciate the dinosaur joke, no end. Thanks!
…If he hurries. Got a bit of a thirst on today!
Another quencher Dr.C? There’s bugger all else going on in the world of Arsenal today, might as well enjoy 🙂
To boo or not to boo. To censure Cusop or not to censure Cusop. Those are the questions. 😉
Only because to drink or not to drink isn’t really up for debate …
Did somebody reach the magic 100 without sufficient self-promotion or even actually acknowledging the fact??
Hey ‘nasri
Personally, I don’t agree with censure but if anybody (LWC or otherwise) is going to behave like a numpty then they should be prepared and be able to accept the consequences.
Rgearding your comment at #101, apparently not 😉
“looks up the definition of numpty*
Breaking news. Breaking news.
Sky just reporting that we are in advanced negotiations with…..
Oh, sorry. We are apparently not in negotiations with anyone. Still 10 days to go before the start of the season so no need to rush.
Steve T
Ooh you can be a cruel b’stard at times 😉
I’m back to my earlier stance of no more first-team signings (coupled with commensurate loss of IG’s credibility) but if one or two do come in then that would be great.
It’s a scorcher here today, join me in a refreshing beverage?
TS… don’t mind if I do. Scorching hot here today, too. Girls in summer dresses. Fantastic.
Girls, you say?
I’ll have a pint and linger a bit then…..
There’s a loud blonde over here Dr Z. Want me to see if there are any special offers this week?
Out of today’s star (I know they ain’t reliable, but they probably called PHW to confirm it, and he talks to them freely, doesn’t he?) –
Fabregas has told pals he still expects to appear in an Arsenal shirt this month with Barca ready to wait until deadline day to land him.
He could even be on Arsenal’s flight to Lisbon on Friday for their friendly with Benfica the following day.
Now, this is just crazy to me. I know it should have been settled weeks ago, but it hasn’t been, that’s a given, but if he plays for us in the league and then gets sold, I’ll literally go crazy.
Either he’s sold, or he’s not. Can’t have it both ways.
Wikipedia says the Indebted signed Vidic for 7 million, 5 years ago, so apparently splashing the cash indiscriminately is not actually required to get a great player. Maybe be should splash the cash, but with some quick discrimination?
I’ve said it before.
I’ll say it again.
Barking. You’re all barking 😉
Looking forward to this get-together at the Mickeys’ match.
Dr C – despite my heart being ripped asunder by a previous blonde from the retail trade, who am I to turn down such a generous offer?
Girls, girls, girls (just had a cheesy 70s flashback……)
Holic, I wasn’t sure whether you were going to the game on the 20th – delighted to hear that you are – I will be looking for recommendations on the ale front at the Tollington Arms 😉
Those who are in touch with their feminine side drink Staropramen, or worse still, cider.
Ollie and I have pints of Guinness washed down with large whiskeys.
That’s where you come in 😉
Staropramen for me please ‘Holic 🙂
😀
I’ll have all of them please barman, bar the apple juice.
(Actually, might swap the whiskey for dark rum).
Wolfgang, mind not to have too many of the strong Czech beers whilst in those high heels…..
I’m having what WS is. The drink of the metro.
Pint of EC Guinness please, whoever’s in the chair, washed down with a loud blonde in a summer dress 😉
(With apologies again to all the girls who read/contribute to this site. Sorry Wolfgang, that doesn’t include you)
Frozen numpty burger turned down in my dreams by the Sainsbury’s girl (FNBTDIMDBTSG). If Nasri’s off, this could be what you’ll be contending with so you’d better pray that he will be staying. 🙂
‘holic, the Staropramen website’s beer-making video shows two kettles side-by-side that do remind an impartial viewer of something remarkably feminine. 😉
Well I for one will be shortening that to Frozen Numpty (you did say you get a lot of snow 8 ball, right?).
Genuine breaking news.
We might, and I stress the word might, be sending a scout to watch Scot Dann play at the weekend.
I hope you were all sitting down for that one. It might just be too much excitement for some of you.
Holic. Have you stopped to consider at all the monster that you have created in this blog?
Be honest now – did you envisage Wolfgang Smallballs, Behind the Arse, The Happy train (Mark II), and regular contributions from Peter HW when you started it up?
Perhaps (and I know this sounds crazy) you were expecting some gentle discussion on the merits of The Arsenal and other lesser teams?
I’ll have Guinness to wash down the pipe that I just stuffed full of Asian products from the CMC. Wolfgang? Put on your speedoes and totter over here.
Scott Dann? Do me a lemon. I’m with Blogs regarding Mr. Dann.
Frozen numpties, Asian products and orange swimwear
Mes que un blog
Oh and also 8 ball @120, I think I’d rather have the £20m, if it’s all the same to you 😉
It’s true TS. We are actually sending one of our top top scouts no less to watch Scot Dann. I thought that would get the heart beating that bit quicker.
Now call me old fashioned if you like but I can’t be alone in thinking that with 10 days to go before the start of the season that we would at least have a clue who our potential targets might actually be? Or am I just expecting a bit too much?
Holics’
As it appears that there’s nowt going on in terms of real Arsenal developments today, I’m interested in taking a little poll on the following topics, just for fun:
1. Do you think we will win silverware this season?
2. Do you think Nasri will stay another year?
3. Do you think Cesc will stay another year?
4. Do you think we’ll buy/loan any more players during this transfer?
5. If yes, how many do you think we’ll buy/loan?
Like I said, just for fun and if you can be ar*ed.
My answers as follows: 1=Y, 2=Y, 3=N, 4=Y, 5=1
Mes que un blog, indeed. 🙂
Dinosaur riddle update: My daughter finally got out of bed and she knew the answer. And I thought I was going to be able to impress her…
1 – At least the treble
2 – can’t see it
3 – I hope so
4 – Yes
5 – 2 more at least please – if not, I’ll get my boots
6 – (I know there wasn’t a 6, but if there is ANY substance in the Joey Barton rumour then that could be the first Class 1 event for me this coming season).
TS – if you’re going to have a survey, at least do it properly! 😉
http://www.surveymonkey.com
On my part; YNNY1
Pedant alert 😉
Where????
What’s your thoughts on 6 Dr C? Could you stomach that scouse pikey being anywhere near our famous strip?
Drs. z & C, thanks.
Edwin has just confirmed to me that pikey, toon lags do cause the springs in the HT Mk II’s bogies (undercarriage) to oscillate (convulse) and the risk of derailment is high. A new Class One Event has been confirmed! I’ve also asked him if he thinks washed-up old CBs from the Black Country have the same effect. He is investigating as I type this….
I was going to us survey monkey but (a) wanted to keep things within the bar and (b) didn’t want to take things too seriously.
… and (c) didn’t want to trip zico’s pedant filter 😉
Dr C @123 – I’m coming , Doctor , I’m coming … 🙂
‘nasri @ #129
Mmmm, will test out on my 9 yr old daughter this evening. Do you want to put the results on Survey Monkey? 😆
🙂
TS @128 .
1. Of course
2. Yes
3. No
4. Yes
5. Three .
Barton a difficult one to stomach , but not a derailment surely ?
News just in from Prof TES….
He confirms that the signings of either Joey Deacon or Scott Tracey would both be classified as Class One Events.
Arsene, you have been warned. Where’s that bloody pedant IPA when you need him?
tabs thanks!
I think I’ll feed these results into Edwins super computer (the power of 1000 Crays) and see what comes out. Any more for any more?
Would The Barman care to participate? 😉
TS @ 135 – “didn’t want to take things too seriously” as he immediately typecasts himself 😀
Think a DLL Board meeting should be called just in case there was any doubt?
1) No
2) No
3) No
4) Yes
5) 3.
As it is now. It would be interesting to re visit on Sept 1st. Right at this very moment with the way things currently are if offered I would take 4th.
And that is from someone who is very much a glass is half full fan.
Zico @134 would be incredibly hard to stomach. Not sure he would see eye to eye (see what I did there? 😉 ) with some of our players. Or indeed the reserves.
Wolfgang @137 – too much info.
Damn my sausage fingers. #141 was from Prof TES. *embarrassed again*
tabs @ 140 – definitely a derailment event for me – don’t care a fig about his so called “qualities”. I can put up with Merse on coke and TA on Tuesday binges but this guy is just bad news – what sort of a dressing room do you think we would have with him in it?
Hopefully all shite paper talk anyway….
Steve T – I fear that your responses maybe the more correct ones. Although, you do seem overly optomistic with 3 more transfers! I hope you’re correct.
Dinosaur riddle update #2: A closer comparison of Tabs’ answer @90 (“Because chickens didn’t exist yet.” and my seven year old daughter’s “Because chickens hadn’t evolved.”) suggests a slightly greater vocabulary in the latter. 😉
Steve T
And thanks to you too.
Yes, we can revisit at the start of next month. All will be answered by then apart from #1. Totally understand where you’re coming but I’m unable to start a season without thinking that we’re going to win something *crosses all digits and prays*
Some dubious candidates for the Happy Train here boys!
Just sayin…. 😉
PS for Steve T (another big Who fan):
Get down on my knees and pray
Just like yesterday….
Only a few slight variations on Steve T.’s answers.
1) No
2) No
3) No
4) Yes
5) 2
The above are the product of my head but the product of my heart is a strong yes to 1-3.
Dr Z@147 – I don’t disagree with you at all as to the character of the man – an utter scumbag – and a mouthy one at that , but his signing wouldn’t cause me to get off the HT before a ball had been kicked .
Totally agree with your last para – think there’s as much chance as old Wolfie being unveiled as our new centre-half as there is of AW signing Barton . I’d have a cheeky fiver he ends up at the Spuds .
Well you better get on the 5:15 then, the two of you! 8)
“Inside outside, leave me alone……”
Nas @149- Agreed 🙂
155 was aimed at Steve T and TS since we got “split up”.
zico @ #143
Guilty as charged, yet again 😛
TS – If we’re revisiting our answers in sept , can I make it clear that my answers to 2 and 3 are interchangeable . We will lose one but not both . All depends on whether Barca play ball . My guess is that eventually , they will . Therefore , Nasri stays .
1. Yes.
2. No.
3. Haven’t decided yet.
4. Yes
5. Two.
TS & Harsha – I’m off the late night bar discussions with fellow Americans cause I quit that for “The Wire”. I’m in the middle of the 2nd season now :D.
TS – can you get a message to the Prof –
The DLL Board will HAVE to meet urgently – there appear to be some faint hearts amongst the “customer” base – seems that a lot of them were “talking the talk” when it came to HT season ticket renewal but are now struggling to “walk the walk”.
Of course we’re gonna win the treble, who’s with me lads?
tabs @ #154
Agree! Deacon and Tracey both ideal signings for LWCs. All we have to do is get Le Boss or his team to express some fake interest in both and that little puppy Ol Awwy will be right there, leaping out from behind the bushes with his Cayman Island Bank cheque book wide open… Sound like a plan? Perhaps it could be discussed in ‘BTA – Le Grand Finale’???
zico @ #155
That’s the theme tune for the HT Mk II / CMC
@ Snir – absolutely fantastic show. Once you have seen all 5 seasons get out and buy the box set.
HBO promotion ends 🙂
Resumed promotion for HBO: Treme, the series I’m currently watching, about New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. Maybe a little less interesting for those who don’t know the city as I do having lived though that time and place, but great music and characters throughout the show. Snir/Zico I haven’t seen the wire but have heard it’s good, and it sounds like time well spent so you are forgiven your late night negligences. 🙂
Dr Z @161 I fear you’re being a mite pessimistic – quadruple for me – Get me on that HT markII .
How was attention diverted from the girls in summer dresses, and more importantly, why??
tabs @ #159,
Yes, that’s fine. Prob better just to take a snapshot now. I think your first answers were just fine.
zico @ #s 151 & 161,
Will do. I was going to wait for others to answer but it had crossed my mind that it’s going to be hard to climb aboard the HT without answering yes to #1. As a minimum, I would say a bit of blind faith seems to be in order at this time of year.
TS@162 – So many loose ends to tie up !! 🙂
Now that we’re back talking with our hearts, put me down for yesses up and down the line. The DLL/HT MkII line that is. 🙂
Plent of girls in summer dresses on or around the HT Mk II, nasri 😉
tabs @ #168,
Always here to help if you need it, which you don’t 😉
8 ball @ 169 – The Main Line
(see what I did there?).
Cheers TS
Dr F
Ready when you are. Note that it will add some delay to final checks and balances on the HT Mk II. There’s a final pre-season run-out to Portugal on the weekend in-case you’ve forgotten 😉
Professor,
11pm tonight sharp.
Bring some uppers, could be a long night.
Blind faith, thinking with the heart, call it what you will, is the staple of supporting a club year in and year out. I like “thinking with the heart” because it is the corollary of the players’ imperative, to play with heart. Dr. Z, You must be referring to the CMC Main Line?
Lovely, the team is gonna have two piccys take one with Fab one with out. Wots it like becoming a selling club!
Let’s have a race the first one who signs Joey Barton can administer vein therapy on his thighs.
PIP PIP!
Will it Mata if we get them all Adibaywhore, Mata, Joey, Gallas .. OMG we are the new arsenal.. Move over lads or better still come join us
The village and the idiot have become separated yet again 🙄
Are you stalking me , Cusop ? I can see you , checking me out …
Breaking News Holics:
Luka Modric is the ‘under the radar signing’ we have been hoping for. Draft terms have been agreed, apparently. His demands were reasonable too:
1) To play in a decent stadium that isn’t falling down.
2) To play in the Champions League
3) To play in a team that has a real chance of winning a trophy.
4) To not have to wear a cock on his shirt.
5) To not have to listen to a pikey chav (take your pick) braying on his cell phone on the training ground.
6) To not have to pass the ball to a circus freak (again, take your pick) to try and score goals.
Could we forgive his Lilly White C*ntishness and welcome him to the home of football?
nope .
Hey y’all (getting used to living in NC),
I’m right at 109, ain’t I? I mean that’d be stupid on every front. Either with us or not, can’t be both, it fucks up our preparations for the seasons.
Come to think of it, even if he is still with us come the Newcastle game AW might not play him cause he ain’t “settled” and about to move, no?
Thanks tabs @ #181. Proof that we don’t want LWCs polluting our team no matter what.
Can anyone remind me how many signings the noisy neighbours have made this summer? Apparently, they’ve become a buying club.
@128 True Storey
1. Yes.
2. No.
3. Yes.
4. Yes.
5.Two, a midfielder and a defender.
I’m still hoping for a couple of experienced defenders but patiently waiting to see what transpires…
Thank you CoR. All will be revealed in just a couple of weeks. Exciting times, apart from today which is s-l-o-w…
Would you care to join us in yet another game of ‘shoot the pet’?
Cusop is obviously a closet Gooner – he spends as much time on here as us.
Or he has just tired of fighting over the peanuts with the rest of the chimps downthe swamp….
*note to self*
Multiple personality disorders to be rectified before posting
Afternoon Gents.
A swift visit and unfortunatly no time to catch up on todays drinks.
I did however notice Snir asking for an e-mail. Holic if you’d be so kind as to forward him my adress, thanx.
I probably won’t have time to check it until tomorrow though,
A round for the lads from me please, I’ve gotta few barrels downstairs that needs emptying, burp!!
Re: TS @185: Shoot the Pet, you say? First we need to choose the arms and the ammunition, since we already know the target. Mine are an Amazonian blowpipe and flying piranhas. 😉 🙂 😯
You day, you say? Can’t say I’ve noticed. 😉
Make that “Slow day, you say?” At least I want to make some sense (rather than zero at all). 😉
Far too humane ‘nasri 😀
Yes No No Yes
3 more buys
Thank you Ollie. Hopefully we won’t still be guessing on points 2-5 come the ‘Smashers game. Drink?
Kudos to BtM. Wonderful pics. But….
…what was that wall? Just four in it for a free-kick in front of goal which you just knew TH14 would try to bend the ball round it. It was barely covering a third of the net. And what was Sagna doing, apart from standing and watching? Is that part of the defence’s new zonal marking system? If so, my nervousness quotient for the season has just risen.
Yes please, TS.
And http://www.football365.com/news/21554/7079053/?
these people haver really really no shame!
Sagna knows Thierry is fast. He was probably there to cover very rapidly in case the ball hit the wall for instance.
Maybe Sagna’s job is to clear any rebound on that side of the field and/or to get a counterattack started? If not either of those, to check out cute girls in the stands and relay the information to Wenger?
Still being stuck in this sweltering office has given me a glimpse of the experience of being an LWC: sticky, unpleasant and soporific.
Oh No!
Is Gervinho going to be the next target for Farca and their rancid DNA?
http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/barcelona-stars-swim-with-dolphins-14381204/
TS…. Damn you! I saw that on the front page of Marca today and was going to post exactly the same thing. As ever, you have beaten me to the punch!
A bottle of celebratory cava for you.
Now on dutch tv v d Sars testimonial,
Ajax v vd Sar dream team with à few too many mancs, but with one redeeming feature…….
His holiness Dennis Bergkamp.
Bugger! Missed out on 200 because I was trying to stop myself punching the screen at the sight of Xavi. Oh well, the new century of drinks starts here…
Top Spot TS 🙂 Don’t think it was our very own Flipper – surely he would have dropped Xavi when he planted a smacker on the lips of the poor creature . Barca DNA or not , that is surely beyond the call of duty .
TS, YNNY2 are my answers
Snir, the wire is a kickass show. I just finished watching all 5 seasons, brilliant !
DR C @148. My prediction of three is somewhat based on replacements for Sami and Cesc.
TS @152. You are right. We wont get fooled again. Fans are getting restless and with good cause in my humble opinion. Very little in the way of possitivity coming out of the club at the moment. I fear that if we let the Fabregas and Nasri situation continue for much longer that it will have a real detrimental affect on the whole squad. Wasn’t the Nasri situation definitely being sorted by the end of June??????
It could be time for the board to…….
“Substitute your lies for facts, I see right through your plastic mac…. “
Dr.C – You are very gracious. Thanks for the cava, delicious!
Tabs & CG, hope it made you smile a little. Stupid f’in Barca c*nts.
Steve T – June 30th was indeed the deadline but, I guess, the whole escalation of the Cesc saga has caused AW to take a very big gamble. I hope it’s not his downfall. Nice weaving in of The Who lyrics BTW. As for Farca, ‘why don’t y’all fffffff….’
Harsha – Thanks for responding. Going to have to look into this ‘The Wire’ thing
Right, as someone said last week – it could be worse, you could be a Rangers fan. They have just been dumped out of the CL qualifiers, losing 2-1 on aggregate against Malmö FF.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14218622.stm
Lawrenson displaying his usual impartiality and good sense.
I bet that caused more than a ripple in the south Lars?
Isn’t there a ferry from Malmo that takes you to DK or is it the other way round? I seem to remember it being a bit of a booze run occupied by more than a few staggering Swedes and Danes…
TS @ 205 – “the best television (series) ever made” appears to be the consensus of many influential critics.
As for my fellow countrymen’s exploits in Europe tonight, another dent in the co-efficient, quite pathetic. A shame really as I would have quite enjoyed watching Arsenal tear them a new arsehole in the next round – but at least on the other hand we are spared the “Battle of Britain” bollox that the media force feed us up here…..
Now, tell me about these staggering Swedes – DLL employees haven’t been quaffing whilst on the job by any chance?
TS, I certainly think they are quite happy down there right now. It’s been quite a few years since a Swedish team got past this stage of the qualifiers.
The ferry is no more, there is now a bridge across the sea to Denmark. And yes, the ferry was a bit of a booze run!
Charlie ,
Re the Lawrenson thing , you might be surprised to know he hates scousers , but will never slate Liverpool as he knows which side his bread is buttered , after-dinner speaking etc
How do you know all this I hear you ask ?
A very good friend of mine is the Producer of MOTD . On the eve of the Arsenal Liverpool cup final in 2001 I was invited to a Dinner with various BBC TV/Radio people . I was sat opposite Lawrenson who was far more engaging in real life than he appears on the box . One of the snippets he imparted was the above – he even wanted Arsenal to win the game the following day .
Another thing that emerged from that Dinner was that John Motson – who was a bit of a figure of fun amongst his colleagues , they took the piss mercilessly- considered it a badge of honour that he got the news of the teams first amongst the journalistic fraternity , and at about 9 00 pm , he took a phone call and came back with the Arsenal team . I was therefore , I’m pretty sure , the first Arsenal fan to know that Grimandi was preferred to Parlour and that Denis was on the bench . Having got the teams , Motson promptly fell asleep at the table , hopelessly pissed .
Ron Jones , the radio commentator was next to me and was a great bloke .
Lawrenson will never slag Liverpool in public , but it’s not necessarily what he actually thinks . Apart from that , he should of course get his effin’ hair cut and be a little less boring 🙂
zico@209: it can’t be the best ever, that would mean that it is better than Hill Street Blues which is impossible since that is the best tv series that ever was and ever will be made!
Hey TS. Mes Que Un Blog (MQUB). Good one. I like that and will try to use it a lot. You should get a trademark on that or get ‘holic to post it at the top of the blog (maybe beside “Blatter out!”).
1) N
2) N
3) N
4) Y
5) 3
I basically agree with Steve T. And I imagine my HT pass will be revoked if it hasn’t already. One caveat however. If 2 & 3 prove to be yes & we get a proven CB & LB, then 1 becomes a yes for me.
Up the Arse!!!
Zico @ 209 – we couldn’t have got Rangers anyway
Lars @ 212 – well, there is a bit more realism to The Wire, but I do remember that lady, Veronica Hammel was quite fit.
Sounds like Swedish television is about as good as its German equivalent if HSB is as good as it gets 😉
@ Charlie – didn’t realise that mate. It would have been one of the easier draws believe me – they are pretty honking.
tabs @ 211 – you are really upsetting my karma here – are you honestly telling me that Lawrenson is NOT a complete roaster in the flesh? Whatever next, Harry Twitch gives his hard earned to charity?
Zico @ 216 – I know, more’s the pity!
Dr Z@ 217 – wouldn’t want to upset your karma mate 🙂
Lawrenson had that ” I was a pro ” arrogance about him , but he was pretty friendly and was prepared to be quite free with his opinions/gossip .
zico, you kind of lost me there – where did the German television come in to the picture? 🙂
OK so the five possible teams we can get in the European Cup qualifying are:
FC Zurich
Odense
Twente
Udinese
Rubin Kazan
Would prefer any of the first three really, but all are winnable ties.
Stingy, the spam filter is now very twitchy around you. Don’t worry about posting twice. I’ll rescue anything that doesn’t push my buttons…
OK Lars – German television (I was in Cologne in February so going on relatively recent fare) is gash.
Hill St Blues was quite funny for its time, I guess, and I’m sure your tongue was firmly in your cheek suggesting good television began and ended there…..check out The Wire man, it is to television what Joseph Barton is not to humanity 😉
I’d like to avoid Twente also Charlie. Especially since we are still a bit ‘unsettled’ at the moment. I’d even rather play Udinese (another ‘unsettled’ team at the moment) before Twente. But that’s just me.
zico, well I might have exaggerated a bit. But it is one of my all time favourites, and I’d say it paved the way for many of today’s police/crime shows.
I have been meaning to check out The Wire since so many have told me it is really good, so any year now I’m sure I’ll get round to it!
zico @ #209 – It was a good decade ago i.e. before the bridge (thanks for the reminder Lars!) and probably before this blog was invented. I was on a business trip but not for DLL, honest guv.
BTW, you and Lars are both wrong about TV, nothing beats The Sopranos esp the first 3 series. I suppose Hill Street was a little bit good too.
German TV is all gash, end of. Everything is dubbed. Hopeless!
tabs @ #211 – Brilliant insight thanks….you old name-dropper you! Now I know where WS gets it from 😉
SV @ #213 – Thanks for your feedback too. Fair enough on your caveats, they sound reasonable to me but, as you say, HT entry might be tough for you, sorry!
Charlie @ #221 – Thanks for the update. Anyone but Rubin for me.
Barman? A round please for these fine fellow and several for yourself as always 😀
Oh, and thanks all for mes que un blog.
Great tagline, at present…
Oh, and Swedish telly isn’t all that bad in my opinion. There are no overdubs, everything (well, apart from stuff for children) that is in a foreign language is subtitled. This is also, by the way, one of the reasons us Swedes are generally quite good at English, we practice it every day without really noticing it.
TS: Sopranos is another one I have missed out on…
Finally, I’ve made a worthwhile contribution. Cheers Hols.
Heh, “Mes Que Un Blog” now at the top of the page – brilliant stuff!
‘holic,
Hey. I thought we were post-ban now and I have already served my suspension. What’s this now? A probationary period?
It would get quite tiring typing things twice on the smartphone btw. And I’m far less provocative than Cusop (a Spud) — even when I’m drunk.
Just call me Stingy Provocateur 😉
Lars – A quick recommendation. Get the first series in a boxed set. Sit in a darkened room and press play. I bet you won’t be able to stop at one episode. (Darkened room optional of course ;-))
Storey, but if I do that then I miss out on all the fun in this bar 🙂
Spam, Twitchy, button pusher, etc.
*sigh* And I’m not even a Spud. I’m a Gooner with an alternative opinion who hardly ever curses (even when plastered).
Stingy, it was not my doing. The spam filter now doesn’t trust you. Just don’t multiple post and it will sort itself…
…until I have to ban you for good…
Would anyone believe me if I had thought previously about MQUB, but rejected it due to the understandable rabid response normally reserved for anything connected with the Club That Shall Not Be Named?
No?
Upsurped by TS twice in one day. No shame in that. Another bottle for you, sir. Bastard.
PS…. I find it hard to believe that German TV is worse than Spanish. Why do you think I have 3 kids??
TS – also a big big fan of the Sopranos and thought that the Wire was hyped when it was claimed to be better, but trust me, it is!
That said, I don’t think I have loathed a character more than that dude Richie Aprile. Vile. If Tottenham were to move to New Jersey they would immediately attract Richie and his ilk.
Not long till the boardroom, you better check on Edwin 😀
TS @226 – my one and only time in such exalted company so have to make the most of it 🙂
Catalan, can’t really say I noticed the Spanish TV – the only time I saw it there were lots of grown men with ridiculous moustaches waving little white hankies (because there is no word in spanish for Boo?).
That said, why would you watch it when there are those girls in summer dresses? (8 ball will be back in here like a shot….).
Dr Z – Loved The Wire , but was I the only one who had a prob understanding some of the street jive – needed subtitles at times .
Do the Spuds have a HT? And if so, what would it be called? Contributions anyone?
TABS – great Lawro story. Good to see a bit of professional cynicism (spelin?) at work.
Dr Z – you intrigued me. According to Google Translate, “boo” is “esbroncada”. Which probably explains the hankies.
I don’t watch it – girls in summer dresses – hence 3 kids 😉
LWC’s HT would be called the Puffing Billy…
Enter Holic, from left field…
…slowly 😀
Twente, Rubin Kazan, Udinese, Zurich or Odense for us it would appear.
Tune in Friday.
You know it will be RK 🙁
‘Holic: speaking of the LWC’s: I am trying to find the post where you wrote about your memories of that day in 1971 when we won the league at their place, but I can’t remember when it was posted and going through the entire archive seems a rather tall order – do you perhaps have a direct link to it or remember when it was posted? (I tried using Google but came up with nothing.)
It huffs and it puffs until it blows itself off the tracks (a class one event). Powered by Twitchy petrol.
The Spuds HT that is.
Holic @ 247 – one thing is it’s good that Rubin knocked out Kiev otherwise they both might have been in our list of possible opponents. Shame Liege didn’t make it, would have had a two in five chance of 1994 memory lane!
On the basis , Spuds HT never reaches any kind of destination , I think it stands for Harry’s Tax
Sorry guys but don’t see it. The life of your average marshman is one of abject misery. What could they possibly be happy about?
tabs @ 241 – that was part of its greatness and realism I thought – I was absolutely gobsmacked to discover later that Stringer Bell was a Brit (and a Gooner as well someone told me). For those of you who don’t know the Wire, Stringer Bell later became Luther on the Beeb.
Lars,
This one?
http://goonerholic.com/?p=2328
Not often you see Harry and Tax in the same sentence without the word evasion cropping up as well….
Dr Z – yep , fair comment .
… on both The Wire and ‘Arry .
On a separate note , good to see the vultures circling around Piers Morgan’s head .
Speaking of the Spuds. Today, on the tele (Setanta) over here on the left side they showed a preview of the Community Shield and a review of past Shields. One of those past Shield matches reviewed was in 1991 when we drew with the LWCs and had to share the shield with them. I think it was the last time the Shield was shared (obviously, before PKs for the match came into effect and they never replayed a preseason trophy match I take it).
Any memories of that match from anyone? I can’t imagine sharing a trophy with the Spuds. The sight of seeing both the Gunner and the LWC’s captain simultaneously holding the Shield was nauseating. I would have preferred losing on PKs instead of seeing that revolting sight 😥
Complete non-event . Andy Cole made one of his rare appearances for us if memory serves
I remember being on holiday in Cyprus during that Charity Shield game, and Andy Cole almost scoring for us at the end. No idea why they stopped having teams share it after a draw (our 1993 game against Man Utd saw us lose the first shoot-out in the Shield), a penalty shoot-out at the end of the Charity/Community Shield just seems pointless really.
tabs – what did PM do this time?
Holic, re 246 – you have mail!
‘Holic, that’s the one – thanks!
If we do get Rubin, it would be a bad omen. Their manager holds onto prayer beads throughout the entire match (mostly nervously, might I add). The higher powers might not side with us 😉
Editor of The Daily Mirror approx 5 or 6 years ago . Allegations of phone hacking getting uncomfortably close to him . Politicians calling for his return to the UK .
Thank you CG,
You are a top man.
SV – didn’t do them much good in Europe last year! The higher power was clearly displeased about something…
Don’t start on Morgan again. Good Gooners lost jobs and respectability because of that cunt and his fabrication.
Fingers crossed the net is closing in on him.
Morgan and Murdoch, the karma may not be instant but its gonna get them just the same….
A plague on both their houses..
Thanks for that link above Holic, it was a good read again and the drinks that followed, then noticed a lot of old “regulars” have disappeared of late – Snail, PiK, Mark the Spark – hope that our brand of insanity hasn’t scared them away and that we see them all back and raring to go on 13th Aug (there’s folding seats on the Happy Train fellas, plenty room for those with the correct frame of mind).
zico @254 – 😆 tax evasion indeed
Holic @ 268 – sorry on P Morgan, our posts crossed.
Time for a reminder, zico.
Never say sorry.
Your friends don’t need it, and the other cunts don’t believe it…
Man, that phone hacking thing over there is going to have a very wide net. The investigations will probably be drawn out for quite some time I imagine.
Right. World put to rights. Rather nice bottle of white now empty. Time for bed and a good sleep.
Where the hell is PiK?? Hope all is okay.
At first I kind of liked PM’s interviews and thought he was a big improvement over Larry King. Subsequently learned he was a Gooner and thought that was cool.
Obviously, I don’t know all the details. But lately he has been nothing but a political hack on CNN and dislike him for that. I’m sure if I knew what ‘holic knows about him I’d dislike him more than I do now.
What’s the deal with this Cusop guy? Is he one of the ‘holics in disguise? And does LWC mean what I think it means? 😀
One Irish coffee please, going to work…
Lilywhite cunt, Cannons, yes.
Cus is domesticated. A recent arrival over land and sea and sadly indoctrinated into the Middlesex Marshmens fold before disembarking. Otherwise a decent sort.
The ‘holics are allowed their toy as long as they play nicely, and Cus, understanding the ground rules, returns the compliment.
A bit of banter is ok, but as with all other drinks, personal abuse is a no-no, or I will have to take the toy away.
We have shown good grace, and both sides have demonstrated no small wit to date, so all is cool.
For now.
“The Fabregas camp is frustrated that having ruled out selling him to Chelsea or Manchester City, both of whom have expressed an interest, Arsenal will not accept the best offer from a club in what they have decreed must be an auction with one bidder. On Arsenal’s part, they are unwilling to be bullied, as they see it, into accepting a lower offer.”
The closest Darren Dein has come to pleading for his boy.
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/frustrated-fabregas-accepts-he-must-play-in-arsenal-friendly-2331243.html
Hey! Le Boss is not the only manager to play the ‘like new signings’ card. King Kenny is using that card wrt Gerrard and Skrtel.
The big difference is that KD’s side have spent like drunken sailors (especially on MFs who I don’t think will make much impact).
The whole Fabregas situation is bordering on pathetic now. How can we have allowed this to have got to this state? It is so simple. Tell all parties the price. Set a cut off date. If the deal is not done by that date then he stay for the season. No ifs, buts or maybes. But here we are, 9 days from the Newcastle game and we still have nothing finalised. It has started to dominate everything to do with the club and is having such a negative affect. We are being left behind and I just don’t see anyone at the club doing a great deal about it at the moment.
Quite frankly I do not give a fuck about Darren Dein. We should be calling the shots and dictating the whole situation. Not be in the state of not having a clue about what we are doing. Quite frankly I am shocked at the way we have dealt with this.
Re: Stingy @263, The manager of Shakhtar Donetsk did the same thing with the prayer beads, as I recall from last year’s game, so maybe it’s just a regular thing for managers to do in that part of the world. There’s little else they can do during the course of each game other than get the fourth official angry at them, so in the scale of things it’s probably a very productive activity. Please don’t construe this as an endorsement of any religion, however, as Arsenal are pretty much it for me. 😉
“Frustrated Fabregas accepts he must play in Arsenal friendy?????” Is that really the headline? Please tell me that is a joke?
Poor little Cesc. He has taken over a million pounds in wages out of the club since the season ended and I read a headline saying that he “accepts” that he has to play again. Some of these players need one monsterous reality check. It drives me nuts……….
August 4, nine days before the season starts as Steve T. mentioned. Do you know where our new signings are? Do you know if or when the dead wood will be discarded? It is worrying me, I must say.
‘holic, It sounds like Manchester City or Chelsea are not on Cesc’s radar at all, and have only been brought up at this late stage as a pitiful bargaining gambit by his agent to make it seem as if there is a chance that Cesc could be interested in going any place else than Barcelona, counter to what the player has said on countless occasions. The Italian club that earlier had been reported to have expressed some interest has explicitly said in the press that they are no longer interested. Either Barcelona meets Arsenal’s demands or they do not.
We have no idea what the squad could be. Fab and Nasri do not want to be here. You would hope that potential replacements have been identified, but the way things are going I can not say that with any degree of certainty. So from the current squad we could reach the 1st Sept minus Fab, Nasri, Eboue, Bendtner and Almunia. 5 departures. You would hope that they would be replaced. Can you imagine other sides wanting to sell when they can not find replacements? i am told that Bendtner and Eboue can’t agree personal terms. Ever thought that we may actually over pay some of these players?
We were told in April 2010 that the weaknesses had been identified and that targets were already being spoken to. 16 months on and how far have we moved on? We are stagnating and those in power just do not seem able to do anything about it. I wonder if they actually recognise it. Best it gets sorted now or a few boos at the end of a friendly will be the least of their worries.
I am getting very frustrated, and I feel so so so so so so so so sorry for poor little frustrated Cesc.
Steve T – only one word to describe the situation — mismanagement.
8ball – keep working on the new moniker. I think you’ll need it and may have to do a last minute change. It seems almost everything will be left for the very last minute. I guess that’s why there is a transfer window deadline as it’s human nature to procrastinate. In any event you’re moniker cannot last more than a year. Best to change it now mate. And you can do better than your attempt above. It’s gonna get shortened by everyone anyways.
Hey! Look who is playing for Barça v Chivas. Everyone’s favourite, and Cesc’s sunblock applicator, Xavi 👿
And the endless grasping of prayer beads on the sidelines for a manager to me is the religious equivalent of chain smoking. Both nervous habits.
HT highlights. Xavi playing with Gervinho, err, a dolphin in Miami 😀
Hold the phone. This just in. Barça just lost to Chivas 1-4 after being up 1-0 at HT. They’ve lost two friendlies in a row. Their season is obviously down the pipes now 🙄
A young Chivas player scored two cracking goals (their first two). You Tube them if you can. And get Arsene to sign him 😉
Okay. Enough of the Stingy-alogue … for now. Time to watch another fella worth loathing to some, Beckham.
Awesome headline MQUB!
Yo holics, what do y’all say we change it to
Mes Que Un Bar? It’d be the same abbreviation and this ain’t no blog, it’s a respected bar:)
TS, your permission is needed though for any alteration of your “creation”;)
What do you say:)?
Re: 164: Here’s some of that feel good music by The Meters, guaranteed to bring me right back to New Orleans and on the Happy Train:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEtXT9w9AYU
Re: Stingy @287 That is mexicano power. Marcos Fabian is the player’s name and I saw his bicycle kick on youtube. Something to behold.
Steve T – everything you said above! (Apparent) mismanagement.
Snir – you might wanna try to add a space where needed so that your smileys work 😉 No proper spacing = no proper smileys 🙂
Not a good day to be a Rangers’ fan. SPL champs already dropped two league points, get knocked out of the UCL, and now still have to qualify just to get to the UEL group stages 😥 Thankfully, I’m not one 😀
Heaven forbid, if:
1) We lose our UCL qualifying tie, or
2) We drop early season points before Sept. 1st which could have been avoidable if not for management dithering on multiple levels,
Then, I’m sure this bar won’t be a pretty place come Sept. 1st. I hear that some weapons have been cocked and fully loaded. The place could end up looking like an old western saloon after a gun fight (“The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”).
Hot off the wire: After seeing footage of Flipper pumping one past Valdes at SeaWorld, Twitchy Redsnapper is making inquiries about the Miami dolphin’s availability through Flipper’s agent 😆
Twitchy’s also looking for a SeaWorld defender to cope with Gervinho during North London derbies …
Zico – Stringer is indeed a gooner, but how can he have that projects accent if he was born in Hackney?!?
That’s almost as good as the Southern accent Robbert Knepper has playing T-Bag.
When asked about his reasoning behind accumulating acquatic mammals, Mr. Redsnapper responded by explaining his logic — if Fonzi could jump the shark then I fully believe these supremely athletic and highly disciplined sea creatures could do the job. Absolutely. I have no doubt about it.
Whoops — s/b “aquatic”
300!!! Get in there!!! 😀
Good piece on arseblog re: Barça today.
Coffee please.
I am having a guess here and hope some one can put me straight,is our wage structure so poor that rather than performance based and the top players deserving the cream on the top do we over pay the likes of the Villa Bendy denilson aluminium and so on,are we so stupid that if the pay rate is accross the board the camp is happy because we are talking about professional athletes,no wonder we cant off load our shit we over pay the crap and the good players suffer for it and is it any wonder we cant sign any big name players.
Only 9 days to go for the start of the season? Blimey!
Seeing Farca lose 4-1, friendly or no, now that is music to my, er, eyes. First three Chivas goals were things of beauty.
Who the hell was playing left back? As soon as the through pass for the 3rd goal went past him and he realised the winger had stolen a march on him, he just thought, “Fuck this” and slowed to walking pace.
Was it that whining, diving little bitch Alves?
Just don’t hold your breath for any portents of doom foretold by this shabby showing, remember how many people love to run their tongues lovingly up Farca’s collective ringpiece. Same goes for Man IOU’s 8-2 thrashing. Quietly swept under the carpet by hacks and fans alike.
It’s like Blogs went into my mind and wrote what I’ve been thinking for the last 2 years.
Excellent arseblog today.
Harsha – …and counting. In hours.
Wow, you can almost hear the wind whistling down the main street and the tumbleweed rolling along the sandy ground.
A shot of moonshine please barkeep.
CG at 304, the you tube clip of Barca losing fair cheered up my morning too! Losing a half time one goal lead to lose 4-1 was just a lesson to us all about dooming. Not that I am really expecting the doomers to get a grip but you can hope. Arsenal draw two matches and we are in “crisis”, Barca and ManU lose badly and all is well. Mmm.
SteveT@281: come on, don’t fall for the headline bullshit! Have you seen the picture from Sunday where Cesc is sat in the dugout with Rosicky, Vela and a few of the staff, talking ang laughing with them? Didn’t look very much unhappy to me. And as for the Chelsea/City crap, Cesc has repeatedly said that it’s Arsenal or Barca – nothing else. He has said that he is happy at Arsenal.
And again, I maintain that nothing would have changed if Arsenal had set a deadline. Just look at last summer, Arsenal said he was not for sale at any price whatsoever, did that stop Barca? Hell no it didn’t.

Delirious Locos Limited – Board Meeting 3rd Aug : Minutes
Present: Dr Feelgood (chair), Prof T E Storey, Barmaids x 3 (blonde)
Apologies: Wolfgang Smallballs
Agenda: One item – ticket sales and loss of momentum.
Dr F opened the meeting by providing a quick summary of reports which had reached the boardroom concerning an increase in faint hearted passengers: “No we are not going to win any silver awards”, appeared to be the common theme.
Dr F took a large glass of water and fulminated “How can they board the Happy Train when they are patently not happy?”.
The Professor amiably suggested that maybe passengers were just a tad frustrated at the lack of communication coming from the Board concerning departure and arrival times, contingencies for replacing the service in the event of DLL staff not being fully focused, and the vacuum of information that allowed the media to drive their anti Loco agenda.
Dr F reminded the professor, (and the short blonde barmaid), that DLL management were working feverishly behind the scenes, and that Prof T E Storey of all people should be aware of this given that his team had been tasked with counting all the incoming season ticket renewal receipts. Dr Feelgood raised a smile at the mention of season ticket receipts.
The Professor then confessed that he was struggling to calculate his share of the additional 6.5% and a report would be ready for the web site (which is still under maintenance) in May 2012. The Professor did remind the meeting that the emergence of the Ghost Train would be “like a new addition to the team” and would be a useful alternative for the more disgruntled amongst the travelling population.
Dr Feelgood was clearly not happy – and the following is a “censored” version of his response to the suggestions from the Professor:
“They need to be bleeding well thankful. Not everyone gets the opportunity to be as happy as us, you know. They are having a significant impact on the bottom line. There is only thing for it, we need to implement the TO immediately”.
The Professor somewhat puzzled, said, “The Ticket Office?”
No said Dr Feelgood. The Tranqulizer Option. Any punter comes near the platform on departure, wishing us well or ill, gets tranquilized, their wallet rifled, and put on board, immediately slung into a Bubble Wrap Suit and given a pint of “water”. That’ll learn them.
Dr Feelgood immediately announced the meeting closed, gurgled down his water and disappared with the 3 blonde attendees “into the night”….
Dr Z – Brilliant 🙂 🙂
Leaked to me by someone on the “inside”, tabs 8)
One of the Blondes Dr Z ?
Heh zico,
I’ve asked Edwin about last night and I’m not getting much sense from him. He keeps going on about Ghost Trains and receipts but still going like the clappers after a late night snack of water and amphetamines. I expect him to collapse and sleep until the weekend sometime later today, although I’ve reminded him that he needs to keep going as there’s a final test run to Portugal this weekend.
Dr.C @ #236 – It was clearly a joint effort then. We’re big into ESP in the bar 😉
Steve T – Yes, Fab, Farca and Arsenal all playing a dangerous game now. It could be that all 3 parties end up p*ssed off with any resolution that must surely follow?
Snir @ #289 – Fine by me but you’d better check with the good doctor (C) and The Barman too although I think ‘blog’ captures the sentiment just fine for now.
tabs @ 314, I couldn’t possibly say 😀
Caveat to my previous post – not that I give a flying f*ck if Farca get p*ssed off. It’s would be a bonus, IMO.
Cesc is on the pitch at the Member’s Day at the Emirates. It’s on Arsenal Player right now.
That fucked up Arsenal player keeps on buffering on me.
Snir, which player? And what kind of action is ‘buffering’? It sounds quite unpleasant 🙂
I might be wrong here but I haven’t seen Nasri yet.
Could it be that he’s not on the pitch or is it my imagination?
CG@321- after that kind of comment we should ask holic for a sarcasm font.. 🙂
Arsenal Player working really well here, there’s a first time for everything 😉
Snir, Nasri is on the pitch.
Really cheesy airbrushed studio background…. endless debate on Cesc…zzzzzzz….. and Nasri……zzzzzzz…….
Snir – Or perhaps just get Holic to call a Taxi For One, name of CG!
AP works fine for me too, but for some reason they don’t stream the pictures from the pitch in HD – it’s just the studio chatter that is in HD…
….. nothing of Happy Trains or CMCs. We, as fans, need to get our priorities right 😀
Surely it’s ain’t my imagination. Nasri isn’t there.
TS – that’s just weird cause I have great Internet that streams everything perfectly, except Arsenal Player?
Lars – was he greens or whites ;)?
So, Champions League qualifier, who will we get? :
I’m banking on a trip to Zürich.
Ollie, isn’t it obvious that we’re gonna get Rubin Kazan?
@ 329 – what he said.
@ Ollie – very droll, sir.
Snir, the commentators said he was on the pitch, haven’t seen him myself.
Ollie @ #332,
The vultures are already circling wishing that we draw Rubin. The filfthy hacks must read comments pages like ‘the drinks’ and then settle down to write what will p*ss us off the most. Unfortunately, they’re good at it unless you can choose to laugh at their blatant news-mongering. I choose the latter 😛
In that Kazan other defeat?
We’ll find out in about Twente days.
Lars, I heard them saying it that but they must be confused.
He ain’t on the whites, greens or yellows.
Drink for zico, Snir and TS.
And any other types lurking in the bar.
Like Lars. Whom I didn’t see.
No doubt he was busy settling yet another tab 😉
Ah, I’m seeing Cesc on the stream now!
He’s ‘on the bench’
Thanks zico, I missed that one, it maush have been the late night or the blondes or something…
Well done Ollie, pun-tastic.
I’ll put a coffee and Danish on it beeing Odense…. or a tenner on Twente?
…or…. if I scan di options, I’d prefer Odense….
*grabs Ollie’s coat, thanks him for the drink, leaves*
(PS: How many spilling mistooks above?)
TS @ 342 – I did tell you to bring some uppers. That was based on the rumour of the attendance of the 3 blondes 😉
Zico, I did say Edwin had a late snack of DLL water & amphetamines. The inevitable mistakes are now creeping in… 😉
No signs of booing yet from the massed ranks of the Members Day attendees, although some of the 7 year olds are starting to look a bit anxious.
Cesc looks good in training (lively). Buck you Farca 😀
Ah sorry TS, indeed you did. Edwin isn’t a Professor for nothing. An excellent recruit that guy.
Dr F has been thinking that there is wonga to be made out of this Members Day lark – an agenda item for the next DLL board meeting will be the introduction of a Big Cheesy Grin Day for the Happy Train.
😀 😀 😀
Bob (My hero) Wilson, interviewing Arsene, hurrah!
I wonder if Bob coyuld be a good replacement for PHW, at least as club ambassador 😉
Capital ideas zico. Edwin seconds all of them 😀
Did we sign anybody yet?
*puts on serious face for a mo’*
nasri @ #350,
The more I think about this, I believe we’re done this window. Cesc and Nasri are the big (virtual) signings. I don’t agree with it but it is what it is. Maybe, just maybe, a CB but I seriously doubt it would be Cahil, Jagielka, Samba or Dann-Dann-the-so-called-defensive-man.
Note: These are personal views and do not necessarily represent the views of DLL Management or any member of this bar. Your consumer rights are not affected.
*breathes out and happy face* 😀
I’m banking on a trip to Zürich.
We’ll have gnome ore of that, thank you very much…
Where’s Wolfgang today tabs? I didn’t spot a luminous pair of Speedos in the crowd. His JCs must have gotten awfully muddy 🙂
Holic ‘ #352
Ha-ha-ha, hee-hee-hee….
If Carlsberg did puns, they would be ‘holic.
Well said Ollie, and a pint o’ Carlsberg for you, obviously 😀
TS @353 – I was not able to make members day , even though nothing delights me more than seeing lots of members out in the open air .
I’m feeling a little fragile . Spent a delightful evening yesterday with a Dr C at the Bar , who told me to come hither . Certainly Sir I said . He then asked me to blow on his pipe . I don’t remember anything after that .
That will explain why Wolfgang sent his apologies to the latest DLL Board meeting then…..
Heh Wolfgang and zico 😆
A round for you two and an amnesia tablet for Dr.C please Barman.
“We want the fans to be proud of the team. We are confident we will make them happy this season.”
Dr Z – I was forced by a Dr Feelgood to give up my invite to a mysterious Blonde .
TS – thank you for the drink , I’ll have a cider with a Cinzano Bianco chaser please .
Try again….

DLL Memo To: Dr Feelgood
From: Prof. Edwin
_______________________________________________________
Good news Doctor!!!
Arsene To Bob ‘The Hero’ Wilson earlier today:
“We want the fans to be proud of the team. We are confident we will make them HAPPY this season.”
I see the DLL marketing campaign has kicked off in full force today.
My congratulations to the rest of the team. I knew that pedant IPW would prove himself of use to us one day. I’ve still got unreleased footage of that night last week at Lady N’s. Tapping into PHW’s iPhone was, if I say so myself, a master-stroke. The images are on a memory card in the company safe next to the IPO documents.
Again, bravo!
Edwin
So that’s what Members’ Day is all about. I sincerely hope there was no dismemberment going on then …
Coming right up Wolfgang, in a long glass with with fruit, parasols and everything 😉
Thank you TS 🙂

DLL Memo
To: Professor T E Storey
From: Dr Feelgood
_______________________________________________________
Professor, there must be some mistake. Hacking an iPhone?
Oh no, not on my watch, no sir.
If I end up anywhere near a Commons Select Committee, you will find yourselves down the job centre quicker than you can type P45.
How’s the Bubble Wrap order looking?
So I can’t get Arsenal player at work – any boos at Members Day?
Someone fail to control an autograph book perhaps?
Afternoon ‘holics.
Took me the best part of the afternoon to catch up. some good stuff above.
In answer to the above survey (about a million drinks ago) my answers are;
1) Ofcourse, all of them.
2) Wouldn’t like to comment.
3) I have not enough info to speculate
4) I have faith that moves are been made.
5) What was the question again?
What did I win? I’ve got my fingers croosed for an upgrade on my HT season ticket.
On the subjects of HT, a question was posed about the Spuds HT. If you believe in the anology that ignorance is bliss, then my friends you are looking at one do-lally means of transport (I believe in spanish it would be called a loco-motion) The windows in the carriages would be emiculate, unfortunatly just like their season I’m afraid it will never quite get on track. Sorry Spudies it seems you’ve run out of steam again.
Drinks all round please.
Afternoon H2H
The LWCs have a DT = Delusional Train.
It has blacked-out and freshly licked windows, even on the loco, so that it can continue up a blind alley with the driver and occupants oblivious of where they’re heading to.
Eventually, it has to come to a halt on St Tott’s day (Feb-12?), when even the most stupid and delusional Spud realises that they’re facing a 51st year of failure, or mediocrity at best, at which point they try to change driver (again) and declare that they’re still the biggest team in North London. Unfortunately Scum-itis is an incurable disease.
Have a drink back from me.
As I mentioned from behind the bar last night, Edwin vd Sar had a farewell night in the Amsterdam ArenA yesterday. Two matches were played (approx 20min per half) The first was between an Oranje ’98 team and the Ajax of ’95 featuring Overmars and Kanu, Marc scored a blinder to settle that affair,
The second was Ajax’s latest squad v a vd Sar dream team, featuring Rooney, Giggs, Vidic and Ferdinand, none of which made any real contribution even though they were the only ones to play the duration of the match (bet the press don’t jump on that back home) plus assorted other players that have a connection to vdS (mostly Dutch) The second half saw the return of Overmars again, who is still lightning fast ande making an appearance, to a huge roar my I add, for the last 15 minutes was the legendary Bergkamp. He’s still got it has ol’ Denis, as he showed as he cooly slotted home the winner. The man.
All in all a nice day for a guy that realy deserved it, think what you will of many of the mancs, but Edwin was a class act and a consumate proffesional. I for one am glad he won’t be there to foil us anymore.
Later on in the evening a couple entered the bar, they were from England and ofcourse we got to chatting (as one does) Turns out that they were the owners of the Firkin and Flounder on the Holloway Road, small world, eh?
Cheers TS,
I can actually see ‘Arry in one of those engineer hats.
“Cor blimey, were runnin’ outta steam again, chuck some coal or deadwood (aka their squad) inta da burner wilya, Gallas, theresa good lad, triffik.”
H2H, Sounds like a triffik night was had by all in Nederland. Cheers!
Oh and H2H, the Doo Lally train is already the intellectual property of DL Ltd.
For the record.
Dr Z, don’t do me for copywrite infingements, please…….
Hows about a tipple of your choice to smooth things over? 😉
8Ball, it was indeed, I promised myself I’d take it easy this week……
I lied, so tonight the only bar I’ll be in is this one and the only drinks I’ll be consuming will be virtual ones.
Unless of course……………………….
H2H, the DL legal team haven’t come out of their Crack Den for weeks, your safe.
A cold bottle of Grolsch please for me and my feminine side 😀
Sorted. A bottle of Groenlo’s finest is on it’s way.
Good news, I think, on the ‘fresh blood in’ front:
http://younggunsblog.co.uk/2011/08/wenger-promotes-four-youngsters/
Will these 3 or 4 worthy squad additions be balanced by bought-in experience via the transfer market (an obvious question, I know)?
DT. l like it, TS. Could also be linked with the Delirium Tremens not so uncommon there.
Aha! Back from the moors -just great to sit in a series of really well orchestrated traffic jams again.
Trying desperately to catch up on the 37,976 drinks left since I checked yesterday.
Zico @311 – superb 🙂
TS, Prof, Tabs, great usual madness.
‘Holic – what is all this ‘football’ stuff you keep trying to sneak into the drinks ? You know it only makes people all bad tempered. 😉
Precisely Ollie, we’re on the same wavelength 😉
I have to concur that the Wire is one of the best series in recent years, the Soprano’s was the series that raised the bar though.
If you enjoyed the latter, then I suggest you check out; `Boardwalk Empire” from HBO, starring Steve Buscemi and produced and directed(pilot) by Scorcesse.
I personaly have no time to watch tv (except for footy in the bar) and I can’t be bothered to wait for dvd releases that cost a fortune and are obselete when the new latest fad comes out (videos-dvds- blu rays whatever) I watch everything on line, easy. Check out these sites for all tv series’;
http://tv.blinkx.com/
http://tvandmovies.org/
Trev good point about footie getting in the way of all the fun 😀
Unfortunately, I’ve sneaked one in again @ #377.
Hopefully, not many will notice it.
True Storey –
I would be most grateful, old boy, if you could see your way to relaxing your campaign to have me replaced as the club’s ambassador.
Firstly, what the fuck has it got to do with Bob Wilson ?
As an ex prime minister from the days when the telly was still black and white, what the bloody hell does he know about modern day football ?
What, I almost hear you asking, do I know about modern day football ?
Anyway . . . . .
Second, I am not one of the mega-rich who roam, and try to roam, the corridors of power around here. I am the Chairman, I fear, in name only these days, and were I to lose my post as club ambassador, I may never get to a game again. Have you seen the price of tickets these days !!!???
I would also ask you to tread with care when bringing up the name of the most marvellous Lady Nina.
She is acquiring a reputation that is not at all deserved.
Her fishy delicacy at lunch the other day was a treat to both taste and behold. A lady of pure sophistication, it is a long, long time since I have seen such a well trimmed offering.
Neither was she finished there. There followed a beautifully intimate little cheese and wine do in the afternoon.
It still brings a smile to my lips as I picture her nibbling at my blue vein, while I lay there sampling her Central Valley.
Good to know that someone is still looking after me.
Intrigue – Lansbury denies he’s in he 1st team squad!
Brilliant PHW! Have a tankard on me old boy 😆
*wipes tears of sorrow and joy from eyes*
Dr.C – He’s even listed on Pravda.com as a first team player… intrigue indeed.
382 Heh, :lD
Damn it, I fucked up a smiley, this not drinking lark is messing with me already.
PHW – long may you reign, Sire!
Dr C @383.
Does he deny being in that picture from .con then, heh?
http://bit.ly/pIPw8S
Did you prescribe him something from the HT? ;P
Zico@ 311- Brilliant! 🙂
Where can I find the HT tickets on sale? As it’s only 8 days to go till departure
/Assuming everything is on schedule
So, what are you folks drinking?
Although, do I have to pay for a seat on the HT? 😉
I come with a letter of recommendation from Wolfgang Smallballs for HT’s ‘shroom supply for which shipping went quite smoothly last month
My friends recommend that if you get carried away to much on here about Larding over us wonder full King Edwards, that you all stop drinking the Toilet Duck and get some water down your throats before the delusion becomes a virtual reality. We garnered 4 points last year to your paltry one. I know Holic its hard to splutter past the realization that we are getting their with existing players meanwhile you lads Boo and moan about your club and whine about the excesses of Shitty and the Chavs. YYYYYou should never have left the Libary !!With your little pitch ! I think the Emirates pitch might be a bit big for your yungens to muster. I know the tea urn is mile away !!
I was glad to hear that my wifes best friend’s family are giving up 2 of their 4 Emirates seats this year, apparently the kids were getting board! or Bored
Why do I frequent here
1. Cos you are all great fun and I will enjoy popping over during the season to have a spot of fun. but we are all bored in the close season.
Lets face it we are all waiting for Twitchy to have his day in court, hopefully Piers Morgan will be doing his turn at Southwark the following week!
No
Wow, what manner of education is being provided to the LWCs? I am sad for them… 😥
