Video Special – Arsenal Anthem

Aug 14th, 2011 by 'holic

Readers of the drinks after the Newcastle game will have seen a link to this video (cheers Snir, again!). I think it is worthy of a wider audience, and thank Elliot and Danny for giving the ok to embed it here. Great stuff. The lads also name check another ‘holic, which pleased takeabowson no end…

Well and truly up for it now. Arsenal, bloody Arsenal! Love it.

That video sums it all up.

They should be playing it on the big screen pre-match tuesday night and every other home game this season to remind the melts what it’s all about.

    Respect.

  8. on 14 Aug 2011 at 7:56 pm8Snir Geuli

Is there any way to do that? Holic, I know you know people who know people at the club.

Do you think it’d be possible or a bit too farfetched?

  27. on 14 Aug 2011 at 9:51 pm27behind the 8 ball but gunning for glory

Barton must be a Catholic who doesn’t go to church. Rather than confessing to a priest, he confesses publically that he doesn’t think Gervinho dived, and also that he greatly exaggerated the impact of Gervinho’s slap. What he’s doing, other than confessing, is bragging about how he got away with it. Makes me sick. πŸ™

  30. on 14 Aug 2011 at 10:28 pm30Lars

Gutted about Cesc leaving. However, no point in looking back at this point, Arsenal is of course bigger than any player.

  31. on 14 Aug 2011 at 10:46 pm31Fin

Cheers Cesc – wish you’d stayed longer, but it’s been a privilege to watch you play, one of the best midfielders of this or any generation.

  32. on 14 Aug 2011 at 10:52 pm32Lars

Forgot to add that I agree with the ‘Holic – won’t ever forget the good times.

It will be strange as hell seeing him in that ugly shirt of theirs.

  33. on 14 Aug 2011 at 11:01 pm33Snir Geuli

I don’t think I’ll watch them anymore, only when they’re playing us. It’d be to hard for me to hate Cesc and god knows how much I hate everyone who wears that filthy shirt.

  34. on 14 Aug 2011 at 11:02 pm34Matt

Funny feeling about Cesc leaving. We saw him play as a kid, he is like family. Been together through good and though times. I wish him all the best with Spain.

  36. on 14 Aug 2011 at 11:09 pm36Jez

Three minutes of fist-thumping defiance, but we’re 12-1 to win the league; yesterday’s starting 11 isn’t good enough to mount a challenge, although the defence looked rock solid.

It will be interesting to see if Cesc’s hamstrings rapidly heal in a warmer climate. I’m very sad to see him (finally) go, and not impressed how the club have conducted transfer dealings this summer, although Ryo, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Campbell would be great additions to a club in the ascendancy.

Tuesday’s game against Udinese is massive; season-defining financially and in terms of the caliber of replacements we can sign.

    A pint of Prozac please.

  37. on 14 Aug 2011 at 11:17 pm37Noel73

Adios Cesc. Always sad when a great player has to take a step down to play for the club he loves..

  40. on 14 Aug 2011 at 11:31 pm40Snir Geuli

Wow, according to EPL Index’s stats from yesterday’s game Kos won 75% of his aerial duels.

This is as opposed to winning a total of 53% last season.

Obviously it’s one game and not a season but he definitely improved his aerial ability.

  41. on 14 Aug 2011 at 11:34 pm41snowy

Thanks ‘holic and Snir for a much needed lift on what is a rather sad night. Moltes grΓ cies Cesc, and whatever the Catalan for hasta lugeo is…

Great video and song. Lots of singalong potential. In the general interest of some much needed positivity, look forward to a derivative along the lines of ‘Arsenal, Come on Arsenal’ – maybe in time for Tuesday? Get chant-writing folks – whatever you come up with, I’m in πŸ™‚

    Goonerholic @10 –

I fucking loved the lyrics, dear boy. Something very old-school and cosy about them.

As for playing it at The Emirates, I will speak to Gazidis, but don’t hold your breath. He can be a funny one. Arsenalising the stadium is one thing, but telling all our opponents to fuck off may just be a bridge too far.

I’ll let you know, dear boy. Toodle-pip!!

    “Arsenal, bloody Arsenal . . . . .”

  44. on 15 Aug 2011 at 12:00 am44Peter Hill-Wood

So Cesc is gone. I’m absolutely Flabregasted.

    Great shame, great shame.

  45. on 15 Aug 2011 at 12:12 am45Trev

Massive shame that Fab is gone.

He was so good at times, it seemed almost unfair on his opponents.
He had the luxury of being initiated alongside Paddy and we must find a big player to guide Jack and Rambo to equal greatness.

Cheers Cesc. Pity the end was such a mess, but as said above, we’ll never forget the good stuff. πŸ™

  46. on 15 Aug 2011 at 12:55 am46th14

we’ve been proper mugged. 14.5 mil now, 14.5 mil in october, 1 mil for every season of the 5 yrs he signed for, which barca are taking from his wages (total of 34 million euros) and an additional 6 millin euros if barca win 2 league titles and a champions league. Alltogether thats 40 million euros or 35 million pounds

  47. on 15 Aug 2011 at 12:58 am47True Storey

    Trev @ #45

I’m still in the same frame of mind as per late on Friday night. Fabregas is a wonderful player and was a great servant of the club. However, the manner of his departure and the timing of it, as captain of our great club, for me leaves much to be desired and a bitter taste in the mouth.

Fabregas was great for Arsenal. Arsenal was, probably, greater for Fabregas. He was also supported to the hilt by Arsene right up to and including the official announcement of his pending departure.

We’ll never really know what actually happened this summer but I believe it is clear that he was really pushing the club for this move.

I also have no doubt that Na$ri to Citeh will also be announced this week.

I am praying and trying to trust in the fact that the ‘replacements’ that, I think, should have been signed or at least lined up prior to these two departures will materialise within the next 16 days.

Good luck Arsene & Arsenal but have we made it unecessarily difficult for ourselves?

I am advised that it’s better to be angry than sad when it comes to losses of this nature. Apparenlty it’s a more positive way to deal with the situation.

    UTA!

  48. on 15 Aug 2011 at 1:05 am48Trev

TS – can’t disagree. Just trying to be of generous spirit – not sure if it’s working though.

On the replacements front, the Guardian, Independent (best one) and Telegraph all had articles on Friday about us going for Jadson.
Hard to imagine that those three would all be carrying the same story if there was no truth in it.
Probably guarantees we won’t get him either.

    Chin up old chap.

G’night from me. Helpyourself to the Ovaltine.

  49. on 15 Aug 2011 at 1:12 am49True Storey

    Cheers Trev

A generous spirit always a good thing, sometimes that fails me.

Chin is pointing firmly skyward, however πŸ˜‰

Rule # 1, never give up
    Rule #2, see rule #1

I think I’ll take my pipe rather than a cup of Ovaltine if it’s all the same to you.

And it’s ‘g’night from him’ too.

  50. on 15 Aug 2011 at 1:22 am50Snir Geuli

Trev, TS – Like I said in the previous set of of drinks. A fee has been agreed for Jadson.

Downloaded the Shaktar away game from Arsenal TV Archive and wasn’t too impressed with him. He’s not an upgrade to Nasri, he’s not even on par with Nasri.

If he comes instead of Mata I’d be devastated.

TH14 – It’s very common in world football. Udinese won’t even get money until January for Alexis Sanches. Don’t worry, I can assure you there is a very real chance of us paying clubs the same way for the players we’ll sign.

  51. on 15 Aug 2011 at 2:27 am51Haight St. Gooner

Hey All, I’m sticking with the positive here. Thank you for all of the great memories Cesc. You were Arsenal through and through, and always gave everything.

  56. on 15 Aug 2011 at 3:04 am56Snir Geuli

I have it on my browser and I haven’t had the guts to press play yet…

Tried to repress my feelings but that piece (and now surely that video) opened the floodgates…

I don’t know if I’m crying out of sadness that he’s no longer with us, out of insult that he cost less than Andy Carrol or out of anger that Barca pulled it off and that he’s a Barca player now.

I hate that team with every bone of my body, but I can’t hate Cesc.

Just like an adopted child, as much as we understand, it still…

    HURTS!

  57. on 15 Aug 2011 at 3:18 am57Snir Geuli

Haight – Just watched it. Too emotional, but with the fanbase growing overly impatient I think more and more people should see it.

@57 – *growing overly impatient with Cesc.

Haight, have a look at that guy’s channel (the guy from the video from Gunnerblog’s piece), he’s got some good videos there.

  63. on 15 Aug 2011 at 3:41 am63th14

@Snir I guess I’m just angry that Arsenal let themselves be fecked over by Barca. Its a similar situation to Ronaldo at United. He even went so far as to agree with Blather and his slavery comments etc etc. Said the only club he always dreamt of was Real. They were the only ones in for him and they still paid 80 mil. For a club that focuses so much on the business side of things we haven’t even come close to handling this well

  64. on 15 Aug 2011 at 3:47 am64Lonestar Gooner

    Love the video.

    Love this Club.

    Hate Barcelona.

*I’m not sad, not melancholy, not hurt…I’m mad*

No drinks for me – I want to soak up my anger, compress it into a tiny pill, and await the proper moment to release it.

  65. on 15 Aug 2011 at 3:52 am65433

The singer, Danny Graft, has the perfect accent and enunciation, to my ear, for an English football supporter. Really enjoyable.

“They said we were in trouble, we won another double;” that line came off really well.

  66. on 15 Aug 2011 at 3:56 am66Snir Geuli

LG – You’re entitled of course to think what you want of Cesc, but please watch the video I posted @57.

Can’t forget the good, you know?

  67. on 15 Aug 2011 at 4:21 am67Lonestar Gooner

    Snir,

You know I respect you, right? I respect (most) everyone in this bar. I watched the video… brought back some fierce memories (lots of pride).

But here’s the thing – the singular, unqualifiable, undeniable truth… HE WALKED AWAY FROM US.

There may be good reasons why he did it.

His love for his home town (although I have never wanted, and will not ever want to live in my hometown – to each, his own); or

Our “arguable” lack of internal ambition at the club; or

    Our lack of results. Whatever.

HE WALKED AWAY FROM US – we NEVER walked away from him.

Where I’m from – you don’t mourn or pine for those who scorn you.

There’s a thin line… a very thin line, indeed, between love and hate.

  68. on 15 Aug 2011 at 4:32 am68Lonestar Gooner

    Oh yes, lest I forget.

His internal clamoring for transfer (don’t act like he wasn’t there pushing, his “unsettlement”, and his general unseemly behavior for a captain (the shortcomings of our management notwithstanding) have really hurt this club (financially and cohesively) over the past summers.

Only the willfully blind cannot see this. Regardless of Farca’s part or AW’s, or the Board’s…there is ONE person who could have avoided this type of break up.

And it’s the person who is being lauded and lamented – rubbish.

  69. on 15 Aug 2011 at 4:32 am69Snir Geuli

LG – I know you respect and you know it’s the other way around as well πŸ™‚

    But,
I think that’s a simplistic way of looking at things.

Titi walked out on us as well, no matter the reasons (and there was more than one reason, Dein leaving, divorce, ambition to win the UCL), do you hate him too?

This is Paddy from the summer of 2001.
    Do you hate him too?

I had a meeting with Arsene Wenger and the club’s vice-chairman David Dein two days before I went on holiday to America. I told them I was not going to renew my contract for a third time, that I wanted to leave and that is was nothing to do with money because that was not an issue to me.

This is not about Arsenal, but about my personal ambitions as a player. I feel, and people should respect this. I expect Arsenal to stand by a verbal agreement they have with me and I expect this to be sorted out before I return from my holiday

All I’m saying that it isn’t this black and white (how ironic that it’s me saying that), it’s not THAT simplistic, there are some more feelings between love and hate.

I didn’t ask you to consider Cesc an Arsenal legend because he isn’t, I just don’t think he deserves to be hated by gooners.

  70. on 15 Aug 2011 at 4:41 am70Lonestar Gooner

Snir – fair points. I will think on them.

In the meantime, let’s have some whiskey.

  71. on 15 Aug 2011 at 4:58 am71Lonestar Gooner

Snir – one difference that one should not forget between Paddy and Titi and this Cesc fiasco is that, at the time of their departures, they were not under longterm contract with the club trying to keep them.

Titi only had one season left on his contract and had suffered serious injuries in the immediate season – so the club were not “pushing” to keep him.

Paddy only chose not to renew his contract. He didn’t aggitate to breach a contract with five years left on it.

Another difference is, in their departures, the club was not hamstrung (pun, only somewhat intended) financially – indeed, due to their advance footballing ages, in selling Titi and Paddy on , the club were seen to do a good bit of business.

The same cannot be said here.

We also, at least with Titi, were not subjected to the endless emotionally draining saga of will he or won’t he. Although Paddy’s departure was not without drama – it still did not equal the foolishness we have been made to endure over Cesc.

There can be no comparison between the silverware captured under Titi and Paddy and that under Cesc.

And we have been held over a barrel by a homesick young man.

I dunno. I promised to think more on the points you raised, and I will continue to do so. But right now, I am unmoved.

  72. on 15 Aug 2011 at 4:59 am72Snir Geuli

LG – I’m not much of a Whiskey person :).

Will settle for a pint or two, and if I’m not mistaken we have a new beer to drink as it’s our sponsor πŸ™‚

Bartender, 2 pints of Carlsberg for me and my Texan friend (Cowboys or Texans fan πŸ˜‰ ?).

  73. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:07 am73Snir Geuli

First things first – If that’s not agitating then I don’t know what is πŸ™‚

He actually DID sign a contract in that summer (he got a bit of AW persuading when he came back from his holidays πŸ˜‰ )

As for Titi, I don’t know about you, but I definitely remember fretting every summer that he’ll go to Barca, it just wasn’t this intense cause he doesn’t have “Barca D.N.A” and is less of a trophy signing than Cesc is so we didn’t get Xavi and his friends talking BS every second.

Like I said before, Cesc has tried to be nice to both sides without thinking of the consequences. He would keep quiet about his future and he didn’t, he said respectful things about Arsenal, but in his silence over Barca players’ behavior he was both playing nice and hurting Arsenal.

He played a dangerous and stupid game trying to be nice to both clubs.

But it is like an adopted child trying to go to his real parents, we can understand but it’ll still hurt and disappoint.

In the end, we won’t forget the good times.

I truly believe that had he stayed he would have given his all and I don’t know how much of the “unsettled” quote from AW wasn’t a challenge to Cesc or maybe a plea to stay, because according to many fans he was already unsettled last season and AW didn’t have any problem playing him.

He does not deserve to be hated.

  74. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:14 am74Snir Geuli

*Third para – and WHEN he didn’t

  75. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:20 am75Lonestar Gooner

    Sigh.

Again, fair points, Snir. Things are only black and white on the Geordies’ strip. πŸ˜‰

Easy answer to your other question, I’m a recovering Cowboys fan. Love the team – hate the owner.

To paraphrase Cato the Elder: Barca delinda est. (Barca must be destroyed)

  76. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:27 am76SlaSh

I don’t know how I feel regarding Cesc. But I certainly am not mad at him, although I don’t wish him best of luck either, for as long as he is with those catalans.

Although Cesc has jumped ship on us, all the blame can hardly be appropriated on him or for that matter Barca.

    To quote GilbertoSilver:

“I can understand his frustration. His star has too often shone alone in Arsenal’s galaxy. The failure to sign the established players his talent deserved around him has cost him and Arsenal dear.”

I am of the view that had we managed to keep the likes of Flamini and added quality in our defence earlier (instead of dithering with Fulham over 1 million) it was far more likely that Cesc would have stayed. And chances are that there would have been no SSFM money chants now.

Considering 2 more players do join us this transfer window (which is the bare minimum I would want), our net transfer spend would be how much? 50 million approx. (assuming 20 million on the new transfers). Had we invested only a portion of this money and the previous generated by the like of Adebawhore and Kolo in a structured manner over the past 4 years, I am sure we would have had Cesc in the team and some trophies to show for.

I would never berate Arsene over transfer matters (God knows he has a great record) but I do think he has been much more penurious than he should have been.

Cesc did have us in his heart, he was no longer willing to wait for us to start winning the trophies.

I know it sounds as a “If Only” post but I really needed to get this off my chest.

Fuck Barca. Goodbye Cesc. COME ON YOU GUNNERS.

I agree let’s have some whiskey… so we can discuss serenely what needs to be done for that game at the Grove in 36 hours.

    Woj
    Sagna TV Kos Gibbs
    Song – Rambo
    Arshavin
    Walcott – RvP – Gervinho

  78. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:38 am78Snir Geuli

Matt – This may sound crazy or weird, but I’d prefer Frimpong in Song’s place to give him a bit of a feeling what First Team football is as Song’s gonna be suspended (most likely) and based on what everybody (!!!) is saying Udinese doesn’t offer anything going forward so it wouldn’t be too much of a risk.

    What do you think?

LG – Patriots (and every other Boston team for that matter) fan through and through, love the team, love the owner πŸ˜‰

  79. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:44 am79Impeccable1

Thank you Cesc for the contribution and the great memories but won’t shed a tear. Let’s move on and concentrate on a new dawn and the players who are committed to Arsenal Football Club. Arsenal Football Club is more important than any individual. Let’s hurry up and get Nasri out of here and find quality replacements. Sign the defender that we need and get the show on the road. Interestingly, being that our present formation was built around Cesc, I’d like to see how the 4-4-2 would work if we reverted to it. I’d really like to see Robin in the Bergkamp role behind Theo.

  80. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:45 am80Matt

@Slash: Trophies did not prevent Ronalda from moving to Real Madrid and it’s not like his RM DNA was as strong as Cesc’s either.
Not saying you’re wrong (or right for that matter) but there are so many things that played a part and since none of us is close pal with Cesc it’s hard to know. For me winning the Euro was the triggering factor, it looked like they had too much fun in that team (which is more or less the Barca team minus Messi plus a few others). But then again I’m not Cesc’s confident.

  81. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:53 am81Matt

Snir: is Song suspended in the CL? If that’s not the case I’d rather have him than Frimpong considering the importance of the game. Udinese may not be at their best with their best players leaving but neither are we for the same reasons, I would much prefer if we started to tinker after the United game (which is equally important and looks suddenly winnable with their injuries and shaky GK).

@impeccable1: I’d like to see the return of 4-4-2 too but for some reason it seems out of favor. Perhaps a variant like 4-2-3-1 would be acceptable, after all United seem to win a lot of things with 2 strikers…

  82. on 15 Aug 2011 at 6:00 am82SlaSh

    @ Matt.

I was not hinting at Flamini’s friendship. The point is to have quality players in the team around Fabregas, not his friends. Seems a shame that one of the most talented midfielders of this generation goes after spending 8 years with arsenal having won shite.

Also I agree, it is not a given that he would have stayed had we had more quality, like you point out with the case of Ronaldo, but if the probability of his staying was higher I wish it was done.

Anyways too late to brood on this now and we do have JW, with the correct strands of DNA.

    UTA

  83. on 15 Aug 2011 at 6:02 am83Impeccable1

@Matt: agree with you regarding not tinkering against Udinese as the last thing we need to do is underestimate our opponents in such a pivotal game. We need to use our strongest starting line-up available but also Matt I saw where you had RVP in your line-up for Tuesday but sorry mate, he’s suspended.

Regarding the formation, alot of people regard the 4-4-2 as being antiquated but I think it can work if the tactics accompanying it are utilized effectively. Fergie seems to know how to manipulate it to make it work.

  84. on 15 Aug 2011 at 6:12 am84SlaSh

I dont think Wenger will shift from 4-4-3. Since RVP is suspended would you have Theo or Chamakh to lead the line?

It think Theo is the reason Wenger has not bought a new frontman this season and would love to see him start and Wilshere in for Rosicky if he is fit, keeping the rest of the starting 11 from Newcastle.

  85. on 15 Aug 2011 at 6:19 am85Snir Geuli

Matt – Song isn’t suspended but if he will be suspended for Liverpool, United and Bolton, I would rather have Frimpong in there after he played a bit of first team football.

I don’t think it’s tinkering too much cause my concern in this match is our lack of scoring chances and not the other way around so we need to think about something.

Am I the ONLY one who thinks Theo as a CF is a bad idea? I don’t know, I just don’t see it working out.

    Matt – I know you’ll love this – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gJhOUKE6T0&feature=player_profilepage

  86. on 15 Aug 2011 at 6:38 am86Impeccable1

@SlaSh 84: I think you meant 4-3-3 and not 4-4-3. Anyhow, I think Arsene will go with Chamakh to try to build his confidence as I think if he’s overlooked as the only other recognized back up CF in the squad, it would further diminish the little that’s left of his confidence. Thus, I think Chamakh will get the nod to lead the line on Tuesday

  87. on 15 Aug 2011 at 7:06 am87SlaSh

    @ Snir

The Idea of Theo as the forward itself is good but I guess he is more suited to a big man small man partnership in a 442 rather that in a lone strikers role.

    @Impeccable1

    Yes I meant 433.

Good point regarding Chamakh’s confidence, he surely needs some.

    Is JW available for tomorrow?

Let’s hope the tie is done and dusted by whoever it is who starts coz we have some tough clashes in the league coming up.

  88. on 15 Aug 2011 at 7:14 am88Snir Geuli

@Slash – I have the feeling Jack is this year’s TV.

AW has already said “he doesn’t know how long” Jack’ll be out for.

Add that to the fact that I hear it’s not an ankle injury but an Achilles problem and as you know the only solution for that is rest, so things aren’t looking that good on Jack’s front.

  89. on 15 Aug 2011 at 7:14 am89Impeccable1

Agreed SlaSh regarding Theo being more suitable as a CF in a 4-4-2 but not in our present formation. As it relates to Jack’s availability for tomorrow’s game, we have to wait on Arsene’s press conference today.

  90. on 15 Aug 2011 at 7:18 am90Impeccable1

Yes Snir, I’m not too optimistic about his availability. Could be a while before we see Jack again, though, I’m hopeful that we do see him soon.

Mate that is one fantastic song/rap.

Please submit it to Emirates Stadium people so we can replace bloody Wonder of You. Good luck to all the positive Gooners going to Udinese this week hope you can drown out the boo boys. I’ll be there to lend another voicebox on Sarurday against the dippers.

Anyone going to Udinese might want to try this new song we came up with over at ArsenalArsenal:

    (tune of Delilah)

    My My Aa-ron Ramsey
    My My Aa-ron Ramsey
We can see your leg is back in one piece
Now you’ll score goals and lead us to Victory.

    (rinse and repeat)

Sure that’ll get up Stokie noses too.

Let’s hope the boys can move on now and steel up. We need to rip into some Italian next week…

TS@47: “I am advised that it’s better to be angry than sad when it comes to losses of this nature. Apparenlty it’s a more positive way to deal with the situation.”

But you also have to allow yourself to be sad if that is what you feel. What we feel is not our choice, it’s how we deal with it that we can (and must) control. If there is sadness, accept it because otherwise it will come back to bite you in the bum when you least expect it.

Snir@57: what a video. I am so happy I was fortunate enough to be at the Emirates when he scored that goal against Tottenham, even up at Club Level people were going crazy with celebrations.

Lonestar@several posts: Henry had renewed his contract the summer before he left so he had three years still to go. And he said just weeks before he left that he would never leave. And yes, Barca was after him for years, many thought he would leave the summer before he actually did (hmm, that reminds me of someone else, but I can’t remember who… πŸ˜‰ ). And Vieira had, if you would believe the papers, agreements done with Real Madrid and various other clubs every summer for three or four years before he eventually did leave.

I am gutted that Cesc has left us and I have no hard feelings towards him, but while I wish him well at Barca I will of course not wish for them to win anything. Sorry mate, good luck for you personally but I hope your team bombs out of every competition at the earliest possible stage – well, unless of course you ever happen to be playing Tottenham in which case you may proceed to the next round and then get knocked out.

I’m very disappointed with the way this transfer was dealt with, by either Cesc or our club. We all knew too well that Cesc’s heart and mind was elsewhere last season, you could definitely see that. Today he’s back where he came from I wish him well because I remember those good days were I was definitely proud of him. I sincerely hope we got enough money for him because he’s worth a lot more than Β£35 million. Let’s not be bitter, don’t get me wrong I’m sad that he went back and not just because it’s Barcelona but because he still had 3 years on his contract and he was our captain and that doesn’t say much about him. He kept quiet in the media spot light and tried to be nice to both parties, in fact Arsenal made him a player he is today and he didn’t do us any favours he hurt our club but not saying a thing. Time to move on no player is bigger than the club!

ARSENE is time to spend some fucking money!

    Lars @ #93

Appreciate the response. Sage words (as always) and I agree with your sentiments.

Of course, in terms of the Arsenal world, I am also very, very sad to see a player of the quality of Cesc go esp. when I’m sure he still holds a deep affection for the Arsenal. What really hurts is that (a) his best is probably yet to come (b) he has left us too early and (c) I think he also left us because he felt Arsenal are unlikely to win championships again until changes are made.

The way that Arsenal hs handled the whole affair this summer also smarts esp. when we did a stirling job last year of drawing a very clear line in the sand. Blogs again sums it all up perfectly for me.

I don’t believe you can just replace a player like Cesc. As others have pointed out, LJW or possibly Rambo may well be our ‘new Cescs’ in waiting. However, I am more convinced than ever that we need to sign a couple of top quality, experienced players to help us push on to becoming winners again and to help mentor the abundance of young talent that we appear to have all over the park.

I’m bracing myself now for the Na$ri announcement but more importantly, also looking forward to seeing who Le Boss brings in in the next two weeks. It feels like such a critical period for our great club now. I truly hope we turn it round and that Arsene and the boys push on to become winners again.

Dead excited about tomorrow night as well πŸ˜‰

The telegraph appear to be taking the piss about this whole situation in true jurno fashion.

All the same they have stated Wenger said he doesn’t intend to purchase Jadson, so that’s shut me up!

To be fair I think all we need is Jackie boy to be honest! Then if Nasa’ hangs about, then it’s a bonus! I think we missed Jack on Saturday, even if K&V defended like true premier league defenders. We then stuck on Djourou and Frimpong for extra bulk!

Another creative midfielder wouldn’t hurt, but it would go against Wngers ethics to ‘stunt’ another up and coming players growth! Imagine what kind of message a signing like Jadson etc, would send to certain other players, despite lifting the spirits of alot of ticket payers!

    E29m
E5m extra if Barca win 2 lge titles & 1 champs lge
E5m to be paid from players wages (obv E1m per yr for term of contract – imagine this will be paid up by the club tho).

So that’s a total of E39m if all things go as per contract.

Lol! (all the comments above re; Cesc, SSN, telelaugh etc)

Just spent about an hour in front of SSN watching the tribute to Cesc!

To be fair this transfer is good for footie and also amazing for fc Barca(they’ve had a good window). It’s always interesting how good SSN think our players are after they’ve departed from us!(in particular that comment re;how deadly Cesc and Messi will be together-tell us gooners something we didn’t know!)

I still reckon we’ve got some of the best players in the prem left in the squad and we’ve made good acquisitions.

Cesc’s departure has left a great big gaping wound in the squad and anyone of these reported imported next best thing prospects would help the cause even more.

I know pre-season is just a warm up, but from what I saw with this current line up without Cesc, I do think Jack offers us another dimension in the middle and spent last season forging his relationships!

A Centre back and another creative midfielder now has to be a priority etc…

    CG –

I’ve heard good things about Jadson and he’s cheeep! Right up Wenger’s steeet! The most Wenger has reportedly bidded on anybody is 17mil (allegedly-Juan Mata, Melo etc-allegedly), so Cahill (his release clause is 17mil-allegedly) and this Jadson (apparently he costs around 12mil – the amount Wenger wants to spend on a defender-allegedly) would be good, before his price quadruples just because he’s been linked to us!

On the other hand we can look for the next big thing for Β£150,000-500,000 and sell them 8 years later for Β£15-35mil!!

    Yeeeaaahh! πŸ™‚

He was homesick as well and playing for his boyhood dream team who is winning trophies at this moment, who wouldn’t?

  137. on 15 Aug 2011 at 4:02 pm137snowy

After Thierry, I really never thought I’d ever cry again when a player left the club, but these words just broke my heart:

β€œI’m sorry to the fans that I could not say anything for the last two or three months, but Arsenal would not let me. I spent a third of my life there, but I am nothing to the club, I am just a servant. I gave everything in the eight years I was there, but it didn’t show in the [trophy] cabinet. That will be the biggest regret of my career.”

Typical Cesc – so modest. What a great lad. Breaks my heart we couldn’t build something around him that would let him achieve his ambitions and his full potential. He deserved better. Looking at the new squad and the amazing potential there, I really really hope we can do better for them.

  138. on 15 Aug 2011 at 4:18 pm138th14

I’m underwhelmed with the players that are being linked to the club tbh. Jadson and Scott Dann? We need players that will walk into our first eleven, and from what i’ve seen they aren’t anything special.

  139. on 15 Aug 2011 at 4:23 pm139Vinny

    Great video.Goosebumps.

The new chant for Gervinho is a brilliant one form the away fans

Cant get it out of my head since Saturday.

    Gerv-inee-ho don’t like em.(The sharif don’t like it)

Fuck the Tottnham (Rockin’ the Casbah)

    Nice one Vinny!

Great tune and hopefully a new Arsenal star in the making.

At least he’ll be playing for us tom night.

I’ll give it a few rounds tomorrow night and on Saturday.

  142. on 15 Aug 2011 at 4:32 pm142behind the 8 ball but gunning for glory

Re: Snir @133. Cesc is not only gracious, he is right about Arsenal’s future. Between Jack and Aaron and a few others, we have leaders to push on to where we want to be.

  143. on 15 Aug 2011 at 4:32 pm143True Storey

    Vinny

What was the now infamous Na$ri song on Saturday? I didn’t hear anything on ESPN. Was it the same tune as last year but with ‘Na$ri is a c*nt’ as the chorus?

  144. on 15 Aug 2011 at 4:51 pm144Ollie

Can I absolutely NOT have a drink please? πŸ˜‰

    Thank you.

Here’s the Nasri song that some fans sang…

Pretty sobering few days but it just means my drinking is now justified. Let’s outclass those U-dinese….I hate teams that have girl’s names….

  151. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:12 pm151Tim

Fabregas is a class act — and AW remains the answer.

Watch him want to come back in 18 months (stranger things have happened)

  152. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:13 pm152iZicoinexile

Goonertown – Nasri is just using this stuff as self justification for being a greedy CU next tuesday.

Flog his arse, and let the chips fall where they may.

Sick of the whole pantomime. πŸ™

  153. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:16 pm153Vinny

    Yes True Storey.

I see COR has linked to a youtube video of it.

  154. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:17 pm154Vinny

A tad optimistic Tim, I gather you have not seen the pic of him kissing the B’arse badge.

  155. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:18 pm155Cannons of Rhetoric

@152: He seems to be like this Scottish co-worker I had once. He would be an absolute dickhead and complain when people treat him badly. I mean, you reap what you sow at the end of the day right? It’ll probably very unlikely for him to remain at the club now I think. But again, he brought it all on himself. I’d rather see academy kids coming into the first team so that (hopefully) we can avoid this kind of “stepping stone” maneouver by modern players. It’s sickening isn’t it?
Do you fellas think that if he stays he would give us 100% or do an Adebayor?

  156. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:21 pm156True Storey

    Cheers COR & Vinny.

Odds on Na$ri starting on Saturday????. I have no idea who or what to believe at the mo’ but would probably bet against it.

If he starts, that should get zico’s juices flowing πŸ˜‰

Zico, if it’ll makes you feel better, we could dress up as a panto horse for the game to show our displeasure??? Wolfgang can be jockey if he likes…

  157. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:21 pm157zicoinexile

    Cannons @ 155

I have already made my views clear in many previous drinks about Nasri – another Adebayor for sure.

PS – your co-worker’s issue had nothing to do with being Scottish πŸ˜‰

  158. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:23 pm158zicoinexile

TS – from what I have heard of Wolfgang, I’ll let you be both parts of the horse! πŸ˜€

  159. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:23 pm159Tim

Vinny…I know…wishful thinking on my part….but I can see him only get 10-12 starts this season. If the following season started the same way (and Barca somehow win nothing this year)….who knows?

  160. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:25 pm160Vinny

I don’t think he’ll start TS.But I hope the fans get behind the team and keep the boo merchants quiet, by singing.

  161. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:28 pm161True Storey

Heh zico! And I wasn’t suggesting that either of us were horses arses either πŸ™‚

  162. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:33 pm162True Storey

Well said Vinny @ #160. That’s THE most important thing right now. Even Le Boss is calling for that right now.

BTW, I think Arsene is setting the scene for 2 more signings, one a CB. If we keep Na$ri for another 6-12 mos, that might be just enough but I’d prefer to see 3-4 now that we have a fair pot to spend.

  163. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:43 pm163zicoinexile

TS and Vinny – for the record, I will not be giving Nasri any earache on Saturday should he play (if he is even still with us) – but the best I will do is a stony silence if his name is announced over the PA.

I think him staying will do further damage to the atmosphere / morale in the dressing room.

We need to regroup with the players that want to be there. And we need to find a way of avoiding having another summer circus like the one just passed.

Monster beer for me please barman, and whatever these more calm drinkers are having…..

  167. on 15 Aug 2011 at 5:54 pm167Vinny

But its funny how idiots like this are given airtime. And what is worse is people listen to what they have to say.

  168. on 15 Aug 2011 at 6:10 pm168Lee......

Sad day for Arsenal FC & just about to get a lot worse when we HAVE to sell Nasri, we will NOW be seen as an easy touch for ANY club wanting a player in our squad that shows any signs of being class.
I knew all alone we were going to get ass-fxxked by Barca, the management should hang its head in shame to allow this to happen our club.

  177. on 15 Aug 2011 at 7:35 pm177Snir Geuli

    Still crushed.

    But hey, time heals everything.

I just told my dad that after thinking about it, I’m hurting more because I fear for our future rather the the fact that he left as opposed to last season that had he have left I would’ve been hurting that he left without fearing for our future.

Just can’t see anyone creating without Jack.

When Jack is out Aaron plays his and TR plays in the hole and unfortunately I don’t trust TR to be the main playmaker anymore…

This formation was built around Cesc. Cesc is gone, it’s time to change.

  178. on 15 Aug 2011 at 7:52 pm178Cannons of Rhetoric

Anybody watching the Arsenal Reserves play Man Utd? It’s 1-1 at the half right now….Sanchez Watt looks tidy…

  182. on 15 Aug 2011 at 9:01 pm182Snir Geuli

Matt, Slash and all the others – I might get my wish :).

Rosicky is struggling with a groin injury which might mean that Frimpong would take the “Wilshere Role” and Aaron would be in the hole.

Much needed experience for the Liverpool and United games.

  183. on 15 Aug 2011 at 9:09 pm183Matt

Cesc press conference is here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14534320.stm
Anyway you look at it he’s really a great guy. Good luck to him except when playing against us of course.

@Snir: Great Kos video, I’d seen it many times already. I prefer the Barca one though.

As for TR out and Frimpong in, I’d rather see Arshavin in the hole to be frank. Gervinho on the left with a cameo from Ryo who’s rumored to impress everyone and their dog in training.

  184. on 15 Aug 2011 at 9:10 pm184Snir Geuli

Matt – Ryo can’t play tomorrow.

  185. on 15 Aug 2011 at 10:23 pm185Catalan Gunner

JUst off the boat. Did I miss anything?

    Oh.

Joey Barton; a pathetic and embarrasing individual. But then we knew that already.

Gervinho… put your hips behind it, man, and follow through! If in doubt, Mr P Davis can give you tips.

    Snir @ 184 …. why not?

  186. on 15 Aug 2011 at 10:26 pm186Lonestar Gooner

Just to add insult to injury…I originally had Aguerro in my squad. In my wisdom, I replaced him with Darren Bent.

    I got bent.

  187. on 15 Aug 2011 at 11:11 pm187Catalan Gunner

I’m just guessing here… but the 14 points that The Green Tin Rollers managed to amass on Saturday isn’t too impressive?

  188. on 15 Aug 2011 at 11:17 pm188Catalan Gunner

Heh… don’t bother answering that! I’ve just worked out how to perve around at your scores, and I take pride in my rock bottomness.

    Those numpties eh?

  189. on 16 Aug 2011 at 4:51 am189Cannons of Rhetoric

The new FF setup is stupid I think. Why is it talking so long to update and why is it so hard to navigate around the leagues πŸ™

  190. on 17 Aug 2011 at 12:48 am190Tim

I’m happier than I expected to be – those players on the pitch did turn up, but isn’t it odd to see us waiting for the counter like the old days. Pace on the wings!!

Last time we allowed no goals in consecutive games, early March. Let’s make it three in a row, first time since Oct 2010.

I’m really pleased with our defending overall.
