Win Tickets To Arsenal v Fulham This Saturday

Nov 21st, 2011 by 'holic

I mentioned on Friday that I had walked in to find a couple of really great emails waiting for me. One was from Arsenal,ย  but I’ll wait a day or two more before sharing that with you. The other was an offer of a pair of tickets to this Saturday’s match against Fulham, courtesy of one of the club’s newest partners, Indesit. You will have noticed their perimeter advertising if you were at the Emirates Cup this season.

They may regret their generosity. I’m doing the kitchen up next year so I shall be slapping palms and grabbing business cards so I can blag a free fridge-freezer and cooker next summer! I have written before about being a sucker for products from Arsenal’s partners. I haven’t changed.

I’m also surprised to discover that Indesit have an excellent football site of their own, which you will now find in the links. Indesit also support Eduardo’s Shakhtar, which raises them another notch in my estimation. Keep an eye out too for their Indesit Football Twitter account.

Now, two ‘holics will have to be quick off the mark to get their hands on those tickets and join me watching the game. Please only enter if you can definitely go on Saturday, and remember it is a 5.30 pm kick-off. To win you need to be a) lucky, and b) know which 1971 double-winning Gooner left Arsenal to spend his final season at Fulham in 1977. You may care to check the book review section of this site for inspiration.

Send your answer to competition@goonerholic.com to arrive no later than midnight (UK time) on Tuesday. I will advise the winners by email on Wednesday morning and I will need you to advise your address by return so the tickets can be posted to you in good time.

I should point out the prize is the match ticket only, and you will have to make your own way to the stadium, but given Arsenal’s form in recent weeks I suspect this will be the hottest ticket in town this weekend, and it can be yours for free, zip, nada, zilch. Pretty good, don’t you think? Good luck, and I hope to be sitting with you on Saturday.

Think of Poor Old ‘Holic This Christmas.

I hope you’ll appreciate this is normally just about the least commercial of the Arsenal blogs, but I may as well go whole hog tonight with an outrageous beg. You may have noticed the Christmas banner starting to appear on the site for the club shop. Now I am all in favour of everybody buying direct from the club, as long as one or two of you do it through the subtle advertising here. Last year the income did cover my webhosting costs, and so far this year I am nowhere near repeating that. A profit-making concern this place is not, but that is largely through choice.

I’ll promise you not to clog the place up with any other advertising if you will get your Gunners goodies by clicking through the official club outlet via the banners on here.

Thank you, ‘holics.

Lots of drinks on that post you quote : 1 drink he’s only got 1 drink!

Ollie: …and that drink appears to be an automated back-link to this post!

If only they did something like offering P&P to mainland europe once in a while, even for a very limited amount of time, I could contribute to the ‘holic Xmas fund ๐Ÿ™

As it is, my only contribution might take the usual form of a pint of Guinness…

  8. on 21 Nov 2011 at 9:29 pm8Ollie

Also, I can make it to this weekend’s game, but I’ve already got a ticket.

So I’ll let someone else win the prize ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. on 21 Nov 2011 at 9:30 pm9Ollie

Brilliant fuck-up on the website, I did.

Thanks Ollie. Guinness from you is worth much more than the commission on any single item in the store. I’m doing you ๐Ÿ˜‰

What website did you fuck up then?

Ollie, when I got my century, I became more of a assist guy and mellowed out. The desire is still there in my eye (if its there for the taking, I’ll take it) , but I want others who haven’t experienced that joy to experience it ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. on 21 Nov 2011 at 9:47 pm18Ollie

Tabs, thanks for the arseblog link in the last drinks. One day this will be chiseled into the gypsum board in tnhof: “Our style is founded on a form of insouciance when it comes to risk-taking.” – Arsรจne Wenger.

To satisfy Joshua they will no doubt find the funds for the flight to Chicago, but to satisfy me they will have to come up with further taxi fare from Minneapolis. Will they manage?? By the way, Clive’s fantastic drink @352 of the last session deserves having a look back. ๐Ÿ˜€

Squeezing the proletariat for walking around money, eh Guv’na? ๐Ÿ˜‰

And, then, dangling that forbidden fruit of direct communication from Arsenal HQ? Why you oughta be…. (nevermind, I’ll pony up my cash through the link.)

Now, before you think I’m actually put-out…I actually commend industriousness of this sort, ‘Hols. ๐Ÿ˜›

Not caught up on the previous drinks yet, but I’m sure they were of the usual quality. On Thursday, we Americans will celebrate the religious zealots who you so callously kicked out of your country a while back.

Thanks to them – and their (and the Natives’) sacrifice – we now have the perfect sanctuary for aging and decrepit footballers to ply their trade. Here’s wishing you ‘Holics a Happy MLS, I mean, Thanksgiving!

Late again, but thanks to all for kind words in the previous drinks.

Can’t wait for Saturday. I really like this team – the ‘pressing’ of early 2009/10 is returning – please keep it up this season lads – and there is some real spirit in the team.

Looking forward to seeing Snake Eyes Santos luring Duff into a few fatal one-on-ones. Have you noticed how many of those duels the artful Andre wins against his hypnotised opponents ?

Looking forward, just as much, to wallowing in Walcott wizardry, to another portion of Persie, to a good old sing-Song, and the now obligatory Cruyff turns of the Polish Protector of the Posts (well, maybe not that one !).

Come on you REDS, this is beginning to be fun again. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Great post holic! I’ll try to pick up a book or two using your banners. Just gotta steal a credit card first ๐Ÿ™‚

Finally managed to download and watch the Norwich match last night. Nothing much to say that hasn’t said before, we played fairly well, missed some chances, misplaced a few passes, didn’t panic and got the job done at a hard away ground. Vermaelen, Walcott, RVP and Arteta did especially well. Great match. Theo was unlucky not to score I thought but credit to Martin (?) and his blocking…
Norwich are like Blackpool except less likable and more solid at the back it seems.

Btw, yesterday I went into a Subway and ordered the biggest, greasiest, most expensive sub they had and they gave me Andy Carroll.

OK Snir, I looked back at your statistics-loaded drink from yesterday and the main point gleaned is that Santos has better numbers than Clichy in regard to completion of passes attempted. There may be many more interesting points in there but I’m headed off to bed. Quiet night around here.

  49. on 22 Nov 2011 at 5:14 am49Shaft

Shaft is sitting by himself at a table for two in front of a kebab shop. Heโ€™s enjoying a lamb kebab and watching passersby. A tall man wearing a Knicks jersey and holding a newspaper walks over and orders a kebab at the store window then sits down at Shaftโ€™s table. He places the newspaper on the table and slides it across to Shaft who watches it silently as he eats his kebab. He puts the kebab down, retrieves a key from below the newspaper and puts it in his jacket pocket.

    Shaft: Howโ€™s the training going?
Henry: Alright. Me and the Morrocan, we practice our shooting everyday and read your briefs in the evening. The plan seems sound. And I expect the Morrocan will be opening his goal account for the season anytime soon.
Shaft: Thatโ€™s good. We canโ€™t afford for our best asset to blow his cover. If the gooners get on his back this job is floating in the water like a dead prossyโ€ฆ
Henry: Donโ€™t worry about it. All will be taken care of. Besides the plastic gooners have left the club.

One of the restaurant staff, a shapely Turkish woman with a nose ring brings Henryโ€™s kebab over. Henry stares at her behind as she walks back into the restaurant.

    Shaft: Ainโ€™t you married T?
Henry: Only to the job now.
Shaft: Good, I need you all focused. You see what happened to Tinkerbell?
Henry: Yeah, one more thing Blatter has to account for.
Shaft: Weโ€™re gonna take his ass down and good, donโ€™t you worry about it.

Henry takes a bite out of his kebab but starts coughing and spits his kebab out onto the street.

Henry: What the hell is in this thing? Tastes like fried cat turd.
Shaft: What did you put on it?
Henry: I used that tin of sauce right in front of you man.
    Shaft: T, this ainโ€™t kebab sauceโ€ฆ

Shaft shows Henry the cover of the tin which says โ€œBear Greaseโ€ moustache wax. Shaft then looks on in amazement as Henryโ€™s face starts sprouting hair everywhere.

    The Scene : ย Operations Room ย – D L Ltd

A slightly bored looking Dr Feelgood is leafing through a coffee table hardback book, “Marvel Comics : A History”, and Professor Storey is seen busying himself in the background.

Feelgood: ย “I’ve been through this book, from cover to cover, back to front, and I can’t find one bleeding reference, not even a thumbnail photograph……”

Edwin (sarcastically) : “Times Literary Supplement snubbing you again Dr F?”

Feelgood (oblivious) : ย “I mean you’d think there would be at least one photograph…..”

Edwin : ย “Oh, is it “Readers Wives” then? Best not let Roxette see you with that…..”

Feelgood : ย “I’m trying to find out about Dr Spin”

Edwin (bitterly): ย “Ah, the fruits of your recruitment policy. ย The Feelgood selection box. ย The man whose head you hunted by researching his credentials on a blog…..yes, very scientific.”

Feelgood : ย “It was a stressful time, Edwin you know that. ย I had problems home and away….I was hoping he would be able to put those loony tune Doctors in their place. ย I thought he’d be like Spider Man…you know, Spin, as in spin a magic web. ย Or at least turn round and round very fast. ย So far, all he’s done is prevented me speaking to the media…..and he doesn’t even seem to have any LPs in that briefcase of his…..”

Edwin (rolls eyes) : ย “Any chance you could help me with preparations for Dortmund?”

Feelgood : ย “Err, no, I’m not going.”

Edwin : ย ” I’ll resist the urge to say “so what?”. Why not?”

Feelgood : “Are you insane? ย Do you realise that any of the 60000 plus in that stadium could be a hitman in disguise?”

Edwin: “Pfft. ย Except from corners, you mean?”

Feelgood: ย “That’s right, you just take the piss, I have to take my Rottweiler everywhere and all you can do is make jokes….”

Edwin : “Look, you’ve nothing to worry about, I’ve got the Secret Service …….”

Feelgood : “Oh, the “Secret” Service. ย So you are going to, what, tranquilise them all….?”

Edwin : “Not OUR Secret Service, bonehead. ย You know, MI 6?”

Feelgood (gulps): ย “Did I ever tell you about the origins of the Feelgood Tapes, Edwin?”

Edwin (feigns surprise) : “You mean “Feelgood sings Abba”?

    Feelgood : “I’ve gotta go. ย Give me Roxette’s lead…..”

The ever patient Mrs Feelgood walks through the door at that point and says

    Roxette: ย “Roxette’s lead what?”

    Feelgood vanishes………..

    Afternoon Holics,

As many of you know I have been trying to write an Android App for Sir Holic’s Blog. I have not had much luck lately as time is not on my side and I’m still learning all that is Android to be honest. With a little help of App.Yet I have managed to do this in just few minutes. Please bear with this is certainly not the final app that I was thinking of.

This Android App will not be available on the Android Market for now so anyone that fancies to have a go please email me:

arthurd @ arsenaltalk dot co dot uk

You will have to enable third parties apps on your phones to install this app, copy the app to your USB storage, navigate to it and install it.

Once installed open it, it will take few second to get all data from the RSS feed. Tapping the title will take to the actual Blog Post.

Please submit feedback via email provided.

Today the beginning of City’s crisis?

  80. on 22 Nov 2011 at 4:45 pm80Snir Geuli

    CoR,

Is this the RvP photo you said you had?

    http://yfrog.com/o02f4fj

  81. on 22 Nov 2011 at 4:57 pm81And Lester

Super shot of RVP, SG – i wonder though is the great man dyslexic (i had to look that spelling up), as he seems to have got his initials round the wrong way on the front of his shirt

I’ll get my kit – UreDS!

  82. on 22 Nov 2011 at 5:05 pm82Snir Geuli

The only weird thing is that this has to be way before he joined The Arsenal.

He can’t be more than 14 in that picture and he definitely wasn’t a Gunner when we had JVC.

That can only mean one thing – he’s an Arsenal fan ๐Ÿ˜€

So much for deserting a “sinking” ship.

  83. on 22 Nov 2011 at 5:07 pm83scruzgooner

a true gooner, that one. nobody pining for paella this year (or feasting on a 3-month run of form) means DNA le arse is fully dominant…

  84. on 22 Nov 2011 at 5:13 pm84Harsha

Hey Arthur..Great work. Even I was reading up on android and stuff to create a holicapp!

Are you thinking of adding features like drinks etc to the app? That would be great

  85. on 22 Nov 2011 at 5:24 pm85And Lester

Over on what some of the chaps on here called ‘Pravda’ ( i think) Arsene’s been cheekily joining in on Future Cap’n Jacks wind-up tweet to sp*rs fans –

AW: “He(Jack) said that the supporters of sp*rs will have to pay ยฃ1 each, so because they have many (but not as many as us – that bit’s me unfortunately) I hope the charity will get a lot of money and Wilshere will not have to pay anything.

“[Jack’s challenge shows] that we are ready for a challenge …

Class – le Boss looks like he really is getting his le mojo back –

Look and learn Harry Yappyapp – or number 49567832 as you may be known post Christmas

    Up The Arse!

  87. on 22 Nov 2011 at 5:34 pm87Lars

Snir, RvP is 12 in that picture.

  88. on 22 Nov 2011 at 5:42 pm88North Bank Ned

SG@80: How old is RvP in that pic? It looks as if he is wearing the 1997 shirt. And sitting on a Feyenoord duvet cover.

  89. on 22 Nov 2011 at 6:52 pm89Wind

Lol, I’ve been so pumped up for the Dortmund home game that I thought it was today!
Still think that we’ll win convincingly, hopefully Gervinho will have finished finishing school by tomorrow :p

    CG @ 63 and 68 – they NEVER learn.

Nice work, Tabs. All the work is in slipping into the space round the back. At least that is what Wolfie always says…

So, not having been in the bar for the past couple of days, is there any news of import that I need to pass on to Mr C?

Mr T, perhaps you can help me?

  113. on 22 Nov 2011 at 8:37 pm113Wind

Nice one tabs, I see I have much to learn still ๐Ÿ™‚

  114. on 22 Nov 2011 at 8:42 pm114takeabowson

Not too much Mr C .

Feelgood continues to thrash around in a personal crisis entirely of his own making . According to his last diary entry , even the normally placid Prof TES is getting quite lippy .

Shaft appears to have dumped Carlos as his assassination partner and teamed up with Thierry Henry . They appear to be on the trail of Blatter , but are worried that Agent Chamakh will blow his cover if his non-scoring continues .

Wind claimed his maiden century .

Clive has been reminiscing about the derogatory effect International Breaks had on his own career .

Arsene was in poetic mood when talking to L’equipe .

Oh and The Speedo Massive had a good weekend .

  115. on 22 Nov 2011 at 8:44 pm115takeabowson

    Cheers Wind ๐Ÿ™‚

  118. on 22 Nov 2011 at 8:50 pm118Extract from the Journals of R & R Kray [ circa 1960's ]

Reggie and i have pretty much got the shops on the Mile End Rd, sewn up in terms of Security and Protection, except for 2 fuckers that are being recalitrant in agreeing to our ‘ Terms ‘
One is a German fucker, that has a deli selling all sorts of German meats.
Claims his Sausage stays ‘ Firmer for longer ‘ than any other sausage in London.
He invites all his Lady customers, to come in and squeeze and stroke his sausage to check the firmness.
    Cheeky Cunt.
But you have to hand it to him,he’s got the Ladies lining up every day outside his shop.
Proper little Goldmine according to Reggie.
But the little Kraut won’t pay up,so after his shop closes tonight,
Reggie and the boys are going to kidnap old Gerhard Smallballs and
take him down the old warehouse we use for ‘ Persuasion ‘ sessions.
Reggie hasn’t decided yet whether to nail his feet to the floor,
    or electrocute his testicles.
Personally i would prefer Reggie to go with the ‘ Nailing ‘,because he tends to leave the Electrodes attached to the Nuts for longer than necccessary for my liking.
Last bloke he did,had smoke coming out of his ears and his arse.
    Poor Bastard.!!
    Extract ends.

  125. on 22 Nov 2011 at 9:03 pm125takeabowson

    Mr C , as clean as Wolfie’s Speedoes .

No Spuds , Manure’s , no Pubis , no Mugsmashers , no Chelski . Ollie did raise a question about my inclusion of Kompany and how that affected my purity value , but that’s going too far if you ask me , vegan to my vegetarian if you will ๐Ÿ˜‰

  126. on 22 Nov 2011 at 9:08 pm126Holloway2Holland

    Evening ‘holics.

Funny stuff once again from the usual suspects.

I particularly enjoyed CoR’s Subway story, as I had a similar experience the other day but instead of a Carroll I recieved a Tevez sub. I had to send it back though as I was in the mood for a hot snack, but for some reason they couldn’t get it to warm up.

    Beers boys?

  127. on 22 Nov 2011 at 9:09 pm127Catalan Gunner

Good man TaBS, and like you I am Vegetarian – Silva and Clichy (bless) – as opposed to Vegan.

    Come on Napoli!!!

  128. on 22 Nov 2011 at 9:12 pm128Wolfgang Smallballs

    R&R @118

The family always did wonder what happened to Grandad Gerhard in the sixties . When I was a boy , he couldn’t wait to get his sausage out . The ladies used to come all the way from Munich for a taste of his meat .

Then all of a sudden , business just dried up . Gave the whole thing up , and went into Swimwear . When we asked why he said his sausage was too smoky for modern taste , and his small meatballs were no longer value for money .

  129. on 22 Nov 2011 at 9:15 pm129takeabowson

Hey H2H , good timing Sir . Another Peroni would be just the ticket . Cheers .

The “faithful” and “always supporting” crowd at the Old Toilet are leaving in droves – at 2-2 with two minutes to go.

    Dortmund preview

  134. on 22 Nov 2011 at 9:35 pm134Lars

ManU 2-2 Benfica – that means that ManU will have to win their last game to make sure they go through. A draw will most likely not be enough.

And if Basel had managed to hold on to their lead when they played ManU, that would have meant that ManU would have been all but out. But going to Basel and being forced to win is no easy task – I think they’ll do it but they will not be able to rest anyone, they have to play their strongest possible team.

  135. on 22 Nov 2011 at 9:38 pm135scruzgooner

Oh, what a treat. Manure draw, Napoli beat al-Citeh.

  136. on 22 Nov 2011 at 9:38 pm136Holloway2Holland

Peroni’s it is lads, with a sly glass of Port on the side to toast both Mancester’s opponents.

  137. on 24 Nov 2011 at 6:36 pm137And Lester

i’ll have a Peroni with you H2H – thank you very much. And do please check out the first shot on this wee filum. Even if i’m wasting your time with delusional nonsense the choon’s good!
