Fourmidable Gunners
Dec 3rd, 2011 by 'holic
What a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. A half-decent stream from Setanta Ireland provided a good view of a thoroughly professional performance.
In a nutshell Wigan started in lively fashion, we worked just as hard, if not harder than the hosts, and once we scored a quick one-two around the half-hour mark we pushed on to complete the job. Were Wigan that poor in the last hour, or did we make them look ordinary? I would obviously prefer to believe the latter.
Indeed the first decent opportunity was a Gomez effort superbly blocked by Andre Santos. That was as close as Arsenal’s impressive back five came to conceding all afternoon. Gervinho looked the livelier of the wide players but it was through the centre of the park that we gradually asserted our authority. Song and Arteta look like they have played together for years, such is their understanding and willingness to cover for each other.
The opening goal arrived when the marauding and unchallenged Arteta fired a beauty home from the edge of the box. A minute or so later Wigan shot themselves in the foot, leaving the far post unguarded at a corner and that is where Vermaelen planted his header. I love the fact that at long last we are more of a threat when attacking corners than defending them.
A couple of seasons back we led 2-0 at the same venue and lost in the closing stages. There was never any suggestion that we would take our foot off the gas here. I know I have been banging on about this ceaselessly of late, but the attitude and application of this squad is just so uplifting.
The opportunity for a third goal arrived early in the second-half, but somehow Mark Clattenburg missed Ramsey being hauled down by Gohouri. On the hour van Persie chose to have his shot saved by Al-Habsi (if you believed the very vocal travelling support) but Gervinho knocked in the rebound. It was a reward for his determination and refusal to let his head drop.
So the one man team were in control without a goal from that one man to this point. It was no surprise he chose to knock in the fourth himself, although not to have done so would have been an affront to Walcott, who once again laid it on a plate for him. With ten minutes remaining I was a little surprised that the skipper was not one of the trio of players given an early end to their week’s work. He had survived some early clattering from behind. Instead it was Ramsey who was almost cut in half by the frustrated Caldwell.
Le Boss was clearly as impressed by what he saw as us.
“The confidence is there and you could feel that in the way we played today. I can only congratulate the team. They are growing and they are getting better and better.”
What remained was a singalongaSzczesny at the final whistle for those magnificent supporters. It is they who should have the final word today.
He scores when he wants, He scores when he wants, Robin van Persie, He scores when he wants.
Updated Android App
I forgot to remind early adopters of Arthur the Gooner’s Goonerholic Android App that he has now produced an upgrade, which can be downloaded from here. Please let me have any feedback you have so I can share it with him.
Many thanks Arthur. I hope I get to buy you a drink or two soon for that.

Great win. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I will have a mineral water pls.
I am saving myself for next Saturday.
And if you believe that you will believe anything……
Only saw the second 2/3, after spending the first streamhunting. a *very* professional performance, and I never felt the lads were bothered once up by two.
shout out to song and gervais, and rvp (some of his close control was sumptious). one man team? I think not.
On the Guinness here zico.
There’s a surprise, eh? π
π
I’ve already written everything I think about the match in the last post so I’ll just post my @208 post.
Question β Alex Song is one yellow away from being suspended for one match.
Do we rest him for Everton and let Coq/Frimpong start against Fellaini or do we risk playing him and risk the chance of him being suspended for the trip to City?
Iβd rest him.
Question 2: Does his yellow card from St. Jamesβ Park still count or does it not since he got suspended from the league?
I reckon it still counts because the suspension was for the stamp and not for his booking which had nothing to do with all that.
Top rdport ‘holic.
All round a great performance.
Give Zico, your goodself and the rest of the lads a real drinkyy.
Cheers.
Four highlights for me:
1) Loved the effort. Even 4-0 up the team kept full concentration.
2) Great to see a range of players on the scoresheet, especially Gervinho.
3) Another solid performance in the back. The clean sheet was well deserved.
3) How stupid do FIFA look with their failure to nominate RvP for player of the year. “He scores when he wants,” indeed.
He scores when he wants, eh?
That’s our captain!
‘holic did you read my drink about your voice in your last post?
Well strangely enough, when reading your latest effort I didn’t hear the voice-over in my head.
Maybe I need to visit the Quackery… π
Holic, I fear the Quackery will no longer be needed as the lads are on a ‘natural’ high!
Teacher indeed π
I hear you’re trying to excuse yourself from the ‘bad influence’ tag next saturday, zico?
Wind @ 9 Please do visit us at The Quackery ASAP! Nurse Wolfie and I need someone just like you (quick as lightning) to get in and out of the Spurs locker room without being noticed. Spurs recent loss to the Greeks was due to the heroics of Wolfie, Leg Rash, and Ollie. Wouldn’t you like to see your name included in this illustrious group (eh, eh)?
Bouncing on Snir’s 6:
-does his yellow from today count, seeing as it’s been strictly due to Clattenburg’s incompetence?
Oh, forgot the usual football rules don’t apply to the Arsenal.
I have only one problem with your previous post, abb: you make me appear like Andy Goram.
Heh! π
And if I may make a Frenglish pun based on ‘holic’s title for this blog, there was nothing antsy about today’s win.
Nurse abb, you make a very interesting case/offer. π
I’ll have to consider it, the glory… I can see it!
gagging for a beer or something more. Got to drive La Jefa in a sec, then I’ll be back for some unadulterated drinking and footie….
Another one goal win for Manure.
Efficient, I guess.
singalongaSzczesny. Neologism of the day, ‘Holic.
A glass of your finest claret, robust and complete, would match today’s performance perfectly, if you would, ‘Holic.
Ollie @ 15 Oh Ollie, aim high, is what I always say! Cheers!
Catalan,
Drinking and no adultery?
Something wrong with that picture….
Ouch!
Oh, hi Rox….
Wind @ 18 Yes that’s the spirit! For your top secret assignment (ha ha) you’ll need latex gloves, night vision goggles, and your favorite Spurs hoodie (whoops, let the cat out of the bag with that one!). Ollie has the gloves and goggles (from his years spent serving in Her Majesty’s Secret Service).
I watched the screening at club level, 600 there, brilliant atmosphere… Great away performance, everyone was superb, back 5 world class, as we’re the front 6… Ramsey shaded MOM for me due to his amazing tireless running, he was everywhere, arteta was cescesque!
Arsene did know & myles & all the knockers have all gone quiet eh?
Spuds have a horrible February and my prediction is their wheels will falter then so we need to be on their heels by end of January then we will take em… Check the spuds feb fixtures & you will see
π
Good win gays!
(just got home from the pub, will have some tea and scones now and then catch up on drinks π )
From the beeb, this shocked a bit:
“Arsenal ended a run of 179 corners without a goal in the Premier League when Thomas Vermaelen scored.”
Arsenal are just a 4-man team!
What would they do without Arteta, Gervinho, Vermaelen and Van Persie?
Where is everybody?
Bored to death with the predictability of the Spanish Liga?
I’ve refused to watch tha BarΓ§a game.
I still hope they beat Real next week, but meh, what a joke that League is.
Played holic!
Maybe there were better performances today – but my hat’s off to Artetetetetaaaaaa! He makes goals, he score goals, he makes tackles, he strings the thing together AND he’s a leader on the pitch. To come into the team when he did under the circumstances he did AND make the impact he has – well fuk my old boots – i don’t mind sayin’ it – i luv the lad – with or without my beer goggles on – pint of Pride please and one or two for everyone else…

Hellollie.
I’m dropping in and out of here tonight. Bit of a ‘buzzy’ head for some reason. Think I may be having an early night.
At least I had a great afternoon first. π
Nice one, ‘holic. Have a good night.
great attitude by the players today,,i think we will beat da greeks wednesday,,Coquelin looks a real gem of a cm
We’re not even going to get to 100 today are we? I’m drinking tequila today. Don’t ask me why…
Nice win, we are on a great roll. Also nice to get +4 in goal differential which may come in handy at the end of the year.
Snir, I think Song should play against Everton, no holding back despite the risk. Colequin is quite capable but were in such a good groove that I don’t want to change anything. Perhaps if were up by a couple of goals with 20 minutes left Song can be replaced…but Everton will be a tough match. He did get a good knock today so perhaps he sits.
Can’t wait to see the kids against Olympiacos.
Van Persie can’t keep a run going. A one week no scoring run is no run at all. He needs focus!
Gedo, I agree, but after not having Song for United, Spurs and Liverpool, I’d do anything to have against City.
Ollie – Want them to beat Real? How can you tolerate them being happy? I know, seeing Ronaldo et al happy isn’t a great scene but seeing Xavi et al crying is one of the best sights life can offer. π
Anyone tell me when the full game is available on Arsenal player?
Usually around 1 A.M BST
But if Stewart Robson is on, it’s not better than watching Sky or something like that.
How he gets a salary from Arsenal is beyond me.
today’s performance was magnificent…but up until arteta hit that effort from range we didnt seem like we were making much of our time on the ball…anyhoo…all’s well that ends well, i guess…i see a red mist in London’s future…a spate of gooner domination drowning out the woes of the past few years
Cheers Snir.
Fair chance my eyes will be glued together by then π
Zico! ha! @23
Quite right – drinking and no fun? What is a man left alone for the night by his wife to do?
Ahhh……. beer. Oh look, football.
Job done.
Only god knows how this is possible but Arsenal have won 8, drawn 2, lost 4 of their first 14 games.
That is the EXACT record we had after 14 games last season.
Too bad City doesn’t know how to lose points…
City is on pace for 130 goals and 35 conceded, meaning it has to even out, that doesn’t make sense… It can’t be possible for a team to score 130 goals in a competitive league like the EPL. We just have to keep winning. We might get lucky with some dropped points along the way.
How about we start next week by beating Everton at home and Chelsea beating City at the Bridge?
Then it’s our job to put our money where our mouth is and beat them in Manchester.
Good write-up ‘holic and I hope the buzzing stops. π
Ra’hveen I hope you are a clairvoyant. π
All played well except Ramsey. Headless performance, too eager to impress, trying few long shots etc. He has been poor in the last few games too.
Nice post Snir.
I think that Citeh have the league (to be realistic), I just hope that we can beat them and stop them matching The Invincibles.
Good point about the record at this time of year… which raises the question: of the departures over the summer, would you change any of them?
My answer is no. The only one I regret losing is Cesc. But he wanted to go, so farewell and good luck. My big regret is that the summer business impacted on the beginning of this season.
We have the same record as last year? I will happily bet that we shall end the season with more points than last year. We are a better team this year.
Following on from that, I love the banter that exists betweeen the young players at the club now – they are friends, they play for each other. I don’t think that has been the case recently.
The future seems to be incredibly bright.
Love it.
*tumbleweed*
I agree Catalan.
I’ve said it countless times.
We’re not as exciting, but we’re stronger.
And that is what is important.
And to be honest, I’m not sure we’re not as exciting.
We scored 28 goals last season in 14 games.
We scored 30 goals this season in 14 games.
It tells me two things: 1) It took us a while to adapt to Wengerball 4 and the wing play as opposed to looking to create from the middle.
2) We’re not as wasteful as last season cause I’m quite sure we created more last season.
And about your “friends” comment.
That makes me so happy.
We have a very bright future.
Frimpong, Ramsey, Theo, Jack, Woj, Coq, Chambo et al are not even 22.
Not to mention Alex Song is only 24 years old!
The wins keep coming Gays…..
It’s easy to say Wigan allowed us to look good, but I think that was the most polished, balanced and determined performance I’ve seen from us in years. As you say that axis of Song/Arteta have developed something very special and the options and choices today shown by the 11 were remarkable.
Pains me to say it but I can’t see any purpose to Arshavin any longer. Do you think someone would take a gamble on him next month?
Gedo@37: Isn’t Frimpong the natural backup for Song rather than Coquelin?
SG@39: π
Meaner@47: Mean words. If Ramsey found his shooting boots we’d all be saying goals were his just desserts for some impressive shifts. But otherwise not too much to complain about.
CG@48: AW’s best sides have been built as teams and not built round one player. The Cesc era team was built round him. Perhaps by intention. Perhaps by circumstance. Had Diaby been the new Vieira and not the limping injury he has become. Had Eduardo not had his career wrecked. Had Song come on a couple of season’s earlier or Denilson lived up to his early promise or Flamini not cleared off. Or Senderos lost his confidence. Or Reina been bought. Then who knows? The Cesc era team might have been the new Invincibles that AW dreamed of creating, and everything wouldn’t have been hung on Cesc’s shoulders or overstretched hamstrings. What I like about the team know is all the things that so many in these drinks have said: they work for each other; they are not waiting for Cesc to win them the game. I doubt that even the youngest in the bar will ever see many if any more talented individuals than Cesc pulling on the red and white shirt (or many wear it with such pride, it should be said). But this team will win the trophies the Cesc era one should have but didn’t.
Snir… we were the first in the bar this morning, and we’re the last here at the end of the evening.
In cricket that is known as carrying your bat.
Goodnight.
I really need to learn Cricket.
I know baseball like the palm of my hand, shouldn’t be that hard.
Is John Motson a Tott**ham fan???
Jeezus……
I am not kidding Spurs could have broken the EPL record tonight.
They should have won 20 (no, I’m not kidding… all the chances were gilt edged chances) – 0.
@SG – 130 goals is daft isn’t it? I’d put money on them to manage at least 115. What city have done really does make a mockery of the whole league at a level we’ve never seen before. I’ve felt that since before the first game was played that they would stroll the championship with that squad and nothing has changed my mind so far.
Worst of all is the reality that they can do this for as long as they feel like spending. This must be what it feels like to follow La Liga I’d imagine. It’s very hollow.
I wouldn’t rule out the battle for second place being the measure of the best club this season – it’s strange – very new and very different. Can’t say I like it.
Whether Chelsea did the exact same thing is the only debate to be had. I’d love to see Arsenal break logic though over the next 6-24 months and take it.
North Bank Ned
That’s one of the best posts I’ve read in ages.
Kudos.
Tim – The only player they’ve changed this season is Aguero for Tevez and for me it’s the same. I rate Aguero very highly, but I also rate Tevez extermely highly.
They struggled against strong teams (Bayern, Napoli etc.) bar the United game which was a fluke (it really was, you’ll never see United conceding 3 in stoppage time at OT anytime soon).
I’m pretty sure they’ll lose some points.
I know this sounds daft, but I reckon Utd will win the league.
This whole set up – they’re playing like shit, the league leaders are banging in goals but the gap is only a handful of points – is all too familiar.
I don’t think City’s squad is as impressive as is being made out (Tuesday confirmed that for me) and you don’t win trophies by hammering teams in Winter. You just tire yourselves out.
Utd are grinding away, they’re rotating players. They’ll chew up the gap and catch them in March. Playing like shit the whole time. You heard it here first.
Snir: we’ll just have to hope that Song does not get a yellow v Everton, I’d say. We need to keep the momentum going for as long as we can.
@SG the personnel isn’t that different from last year but the tactics certainly are. they feel they’ll outscore most teams and I’ve seen them enough this season to realise they’ll score 3 times in 3 out of 4 games. With the exception of the Liverpool game they’ve never sat back once.
It could all go very wrong of course, but I feel that’s not likely.
Lars – That’s my question exactly.
After all the plaudits they got on Tuesday, do you think putting Coq/Frimpong for Song would disrupt the momentum?
I think they could do a job. I doubt Everton will offer a lot offensively. We just have to make sure our wingers and RvP are fresh.
I think Robin got a little jealous toward the end. When was the last time Arsenal scored 2, let alone 3, goals and none of them were Robin’s?
A few hours later now, with a few vino tintos in me, I feel like I’m properly celebrating a four nil away victory. Which should be celebrated mind you there aren’t that many four nil away victories in store for any club in any season. Come on the Arse!!
Coq should take his chance with 2 hands.
Like really grab it by the scruff of the neck.
Frimpong is going to get tutored by Karl Henry (perhaps it’s the other way around π )…
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Arsenal-to-send-out-starlet-Emmanuel-Frimpong-to-Wolves-on-loan-article838649.html
Determination and staying power. Those are the qualities our club lacked over the last several seasons. It appears we have upped the ante on those scores. The proof will be in the pudding but I fuck all can care about our performance in August but if our determination and staying power can see us through in April we will really have accomplished something with offloading the dead wood and replacing it the way we did. Come on the Arse!! (apologies if I said that already, maybe I should shorten it to COTA!!)
Pretty good reaction to the home draw against Fulham and going out of the CC against Citeh. I thought we were in for a test of our determination and staying power after having those two blips, and it appears we have passed the test, so far, with flying colors. COTA!!
Snir, The loan of Frimpong does appear to be a ringing endorsement from the club of Coquelin’s progress. Not to mention his role in finishing out today’s game. Whoever was broadcasting the game called him Oxlade-Chamberlain after he got the yellow card, but that whoever may soon have to recognize a player with real talent. If Song is injured we have a capable and surprisingly mature replacement in the wings…
And that brings me back to my question.
I think that bringing him in, instead of Song against Everton and giving Song 15 days (!!!!!!) rest is massive. Plus the fact that we CAN NOT let Song get his 5th yellow and miss City away.
He would slot right in, just like he did against Spurs.
As opposed to Spurs and United, Everton is a home game and he’ll have it easier for him.
He did get his loan move last season, and it helped him immensely, he should get the nod against Everton.
Snir, You have me convinced and watching Coquelin for the 90 minutes against Everton would be a real pleasure for me and probably for our man Song too…
Snir@64: I have to admit to being in two minds here, but I think I’ll go with “play Song v Everton and hope for the best” since not playing him will mean two weeks between now and City and that might be a tad too much. However, there is of course the risk that the yellows will play on his mind v Everton and make him hold back too much so… not an easy decision for Arsene.
73 drinks in, I said it before and I’ll say it again, we should go on a magnificent run now! A draw next week between the two toned blues and a loss from the scum should lay it on nicely! π
Cheers and here’s to the start of our season!
I’m a little confused by the ‘Coquelin was impressive against City so let’s play him against Everton so Song plays against City’ conundrum.
I need to sleep on that.
Now…
Just finished up some ‘pre-business’ relating to a top secret assignment (heh)
abb @24, I’ll meet up with Ollie when he’s free at work to procure the 1st two items, for the third I think I’ll take a stroll down the Tottenham Court Road keeping my eyes peels for shades of white (and whatever murky colours) in rubbish bins.
Should eventually come up quids (or would that be crap? ;))
Snir @ 41, exactly! He ruins Arsenal Player for me on matchdays tbh, and that was the 2nd reason why I opted for Red Membership this season π
Also, excellent point for the half-century, have a factual drink on me π
And @ 67, I was thinking during the game today that he might be a little bit disappointed that after the Tuesday game, Coquelin is getting into the 1st team ahead of him but as Calatan said @ 48, they are friends, and if he can go out on loan to Wolves and come back a better player, itching to get into the 1st team regularly, I’m all for it π
NBN @ 53, well in on the post mate, sombre but honest.
Song is having a rich vein of form so he should be played against City, more experienced than Coquelin after all but in the Everton game Song will aim to impress as will the rest of the team, it being our anniversary game and all and no one would want to see him put in a timid performance for fear of drawing another yellow and missing the City away game so I think playing Coquelin against Everton would be a good idea, rest Song and give Coquelin some vital match Premier League experience as well π
The Sleep-Addled brain makes me eloquent… snores.
N7G@57 & Wind@76: Tks. There is something to this team. We’ve all seen it. Hope it lasts the season. I think it can.
Holic, it wasn’t because he was impressive against Everton. It’s because he has proven he can play at this level and we have to have Song against CIty.
For all I care we can treat it as if Song is injured/suspended and Coq is our cover.
We HAVE to have Song in against City.
Coq’s performances this season merit a chance against Everton at home.
Hey ‘olic!
Nice win last night, just happy that the team is looking like they will all play for each other again, which was not the case at the end of last season.
Good on BFF (big fuckin’ forehead) to grab a goal, he has been working tirelessly for us and it begs a question why some people on twitter are moaning about him.
Then again, it’s Twitter.
Anyway. I’ll have a pint of cider please. I’ll get your pints right back next september at the tollie!
Lovely, lovely, lovely. We’re a proper TEAM again.
Cheers!
One way traffic, playing ping pong for fun at the end and the inevitable RvP tax. Who could ask for more.
As some of you may know, technology is not my thing. I have tried to find streams for games before and failed miserably. Yesterday was the first time I have actually been successful. Halfway through the first half I get called to deal with a minor family matter upstairs. I return some 90 seconds later to find that we are 2 up. During the second half I had a few issues. I hit the refresh button only to get the picture back and find we were now 3 up. I was massively grateful to RVP for notching the 4th. It was the only goal I actually managed to see live!!!!!
I do not have much to add to what has already been said in the hloic report or subsequent drinks. I agree with those that think was have sacrificed some of our flair. That I guess is inevitable when you lose players of the quality of Nasri and Fabregas. However what I would say is that the shape and balance of the side has improved massively. I moaned constantly last year about the balance of the side not being right. This is something that I think we have addressed and is now paying dividends. My view is that we are still a few players short. I have no idea if we will address that in January. I certainly hope so.
I said pre match that Wigan was a game where we had to win the battles before we could win the war. I think that is exactly what we did. A lot of credit can go to a few of the more mature players, even if they are not mature in Arsenal terms.
On to Greece. Hopefully with many who have soldiered so well enjoying a well earned rest. How satisfying is it to read about 3 prem teams having to scrap for their lives this week when we can all sit back with a cheeky little smile and just enjoy the day?
Keep the faith.
*boilk*
The Snir Coq Cononundrum.
I think I will agree with you – if we are going to trust him (and if the report of Frimpong to Wolves is correct, then we are), then we need to give him the games. Song is vital for City, so give him a rest.
I hope Frimpong makes the most of the loan too. I do like the security of having both him and Le Coq as cover for Song, but I guess we have to speed up his development.
Here’s a serious question. When Jack comes back, who misses out? Or does he not get straight back in? Amazing (and great) that I can even ask that question…
Coffee. Like Shaft’s women, please.
A good weekend for the Midnight Marauders….
Dr F being reeled in by the chasing pack… π
What’s coffee with a big fat arse then, Catalan?
@84 – One of these days I will remember to make transfers…. π
Strong and black, Zico.
Although I am sure that Shaft just needs the strong bit.
Isn’t there some country (Australia) where there is a “fat” coffee?
Transfers?? That’s possible? π
Oh Zico, even I got that coffee reference @ 83, and my eyes are currently burning π
F8ck me.
Burning eyes, numb ears. All the weirdos are in this bar. π
You called?
Heh.
What is it with Sundays?
RIP Socrates.
Another childhood memory gone…
Hmmmm…… Nicolas Anelka available.
My take on my own JAck question:
Ramsey drops down (on, off as Jack comes back) and Arteta moves more forward. Jack takes Arteta’s role. I think those three are all interchangeable.
*Takes the corner to himself. Ref doesn’t notice. Plays keepy-uppy with the ball as he can’t see anyone to pass it to…..*
Morning βholic and βholics.
As always, a fine post and many excellent points made in the drinks.
Nothing to add about the game itself really, except to say that was by far my favourite away game of the season so far, not because we won in such fine style (although letβs be honest that does help) but because of the following:
1. Whatever the wanker βpunditsβ on MOTD said, the hosts turned up to play and that always makes for a decent game to watch. Iβll be sorry if we lose them from the PL at the end of the season.
2. The travelling faithful turned up in numbers (looking at the post match report on the BBC, I think we made up about a quarter of the attendance) and it was nothing short of a joy to be among them.
3. The team are looking every inch the team that play their hearts out for each other (with one small exception, and I wish he could sort his head out to be the player he was when he arrived).
4. Coquelin was only on for a few minutes but showed some real class and top skills. To see him skip past four (albeit very tired) Wigan players in the closing minutes was breathtaking.
5. SingalongaChezzer was practically worth the long trip on its own. Watching him shush the travelling faithful and then belting out βAnd itβs Arsenalβ¦β just might be my moment of the season so far. Thanks Snir for posting that link yesterday, Iβve re-watched it at least a dozen times already π
And a quick shout out to some great pre- and post- match company, including a young lad who got to see his first away win for the Arsenal after making trips to the Old Toilet and Blackburn fiascos. Absolutely great stuff.
Were it not for the sad news of Socrates, Iβd be feeling properly festive today. Another footballing legend taken from us too soon.
Have a great Sunday folks.
*fuck it. Goes on a mazy run, beating opponents for fun. Still no teammates showing for the ball*
*Spies Snowy! Launches long ball forward for him*
CG – blimey – where have all the usual lurkers gone???
The Aim Is To Irritate!!! And That’s A Fact – In My Opinion!!!
Why Weren’t It Five?!? Arsene So-Called Wenger!?!
We’ve got a dodgy goal diff. that needs serious, serious, serious attention!!
You don’t think that if Chavski had got 4 yesterday they wouldn’t have pushed on for the 5th – do you??? Exactly!!!
If, as they say, a good goal diff. is worth an extra point then it stands to reason that a crap one is worth a point less – don’t it!?! Which in reality puts us on 25 points and means we’re actually a point behind Newcastle and sat in 6th spot this morning (the table don’t lie) – and that’s not acceptable in my opinion!
And the stats back me up on this. Our last 3 games go – drawn one, lost one, one one. That is very much mid-table form in my book – which tells me we’re actually bloody lucky to be lying in 6th spot at all – Mr. so-called Wenger!
Now – i’ve been told on more than one occasion – what with my obvious knowledge of the beautiful sport – that I could be the next Arsenal manager. Admittedly it’s mostly from the voices I hear in my head – but you lot say it sometimes too. And who knows better than you?!?
We needed goals yesterday – right? So me, I’d of been bold – stuck me neck out and gone for the throat. I would’ve left Gervo and Theo on at the death – and whoever else it was he took off. Then why not take off Szczesny instead ? – (he had nothing to do second half), and take off our two smallest defenders as well. Obviously leave the big lads on at the back – so that Wigan couldn’t chip us from the half-way line etc. Then empty our bench of attacking options and swarm all over the oppo looking for goals – like we meant it!! Simples!!
But our so-called manager hasn’t got the bottle and the attacking instincts of say a Mourinho or Chavski’s ABC. Hard facts for loyal gooners to swallow – I know – but that’s why we’re where we’re at right now – stuck in 6th spot! And there’s no getting away from that! Fact!!
So Wenger – pull your finger out, or I’ll be pointing mine at you!!!
*CG races forward to collect a perfectly timed defence splitting pass from snowy*
Blimey, seemed to have accidentally scored….
Timing has never been my strongest suit in all fairness π
Slightly overhit that pass Snowy, but thanks for the intention! π
π
Can’t believe my first century bounced in off the arse end of some eczematous invective !
Anyway, that’s enough long words for a Sunday morning…I think a need some more caffeine to sharpen up those timing skills π
Heh LeG π
snowy, was the Young Lad by any chance accompanied by a proud dad that has been mistakenly associated with the West End in these drinks a few days ago?
Great stuff.
RIP Socrates, gutted with that missed penalty against France in 1986.
(I stopped supporting France sometime between ’84 and ’86, probably as a reaction to chauvinism….)
Right, off to see my old man.
Have a good day, folks!
And congrats on the snowy century
Arsenal fans in Revolt Against Wenger.
The Interweb is full of Arsenal blogs reflecting Arsenal fans’ frustration at Wenger’s tactics. Added to Van Persie’s worring dip in form, only scoring once yesterday, and having to rely on a centre half to score more goals than Luca Modric, these are stressful times for the North London club.
Emmanuelle Fromping is rumoured to be so concerned he has asked for a loan move, and goalkeeper Szcsenyyyyyy was seen remonstrating with the away support at the end of the game.
Crisis looms.
*chucklin’ here π
Excellent summary of the game, ‘holic. Cockle-warming team performance. Heading in the right direction and burying a few ghosts.
Champers all round this weekend, barman, but not the good stuff yet.
Ollie @ 106 – you know, I do think it was the very same!
LeG @ 99 and Tosspot @ 108 – double heh π π And that’s a fact. In my opinion….
Club in crisis – “Oenger” aaart π
LeG Rash represents the true Arsenal fans, right?
LeG, thanks for the laughs π
Snowy, sounds like you had a proper good time up at Wigan!
LeG and MT – excellent. π
Heh, just discovered that a Swedish channel is showing the massive game between Totton and Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup – with Swedish commentay and in HD! I am seriously wondering if I might be the only one watching…
Wind @ 76 Ha, Ha! In that case, Nurse Wolfie must get you caught up on your vaccinations. Cheers!
The scene : Β Dr Feelgood’s well appointed bedroom in the retreat somewhere in the Home Counties. Β We join proceedings just as Professor Storey enters the room and he passes the Blonde Girl with The Ponytail on the way out. She seems to smirk, as she smoothes her skirt and rushes along the corridor without stopping to speak to the Professor, who enters the room…..
Edwin : Β “Good morning Dr F. Β Another day, another dollar eh?”
Feelgood : “Another day, another “Doctor” more like. Β Apparently Babble, or Bubble Trouble as I call him, is off to join some travelling circus. Β Said he was going to be in charge of some Green Bin or something.”
Edwin : “Green Tin, Dr F, you really need to listen to the Doctors more closely.”
Feelgood : “Feck, you sound like Roxette.”
Edwin (oblivious) : “Anyway, that’s what I came to talk to you about – if there are others using the term Green Tin, and dispensing herbal treatments, then we need to get the Legal team mobilised and sue for copyright infringement…..”
Feelgood : “Good luck with that. Β The last time I asked them to prepare a case, they asked if I wanted the money in 50s or 100s…..”
Edwin : “Well it all sounds rather suspicious. Β I’d heard that this guy was committed….
Feelgood (interrupting) : “Should have BEEN committed more like. Β Anyway, some other drongo is being brought in from some god forsaken place, later today. Β I hope he at least has the decency to leave me in the care of young blondie…..”
Edwin (gives Feelgood a familiar look): Β “You appear to have taken a shine to her Dr F, what exactly was sheΒ doing just before I arrived?”
Feelgood : Β “She was giving me a …………foot massage.”
Edwin (unconvinced) : “Oh really?”
Feelgood : “No need to sound so surprised. Β Let’s see how cute your feet look next time you submerge them in the river for two hours……”
Edwin : “Yeah I heard about that. Β Don’t suppose you’re going to get away to Greece this midweek…?”
Feelgood : “No chance. Β Pity. That Olivia Newton-John is hot….”
To be continued
Leg Rash @ 99, The next Arsenal manager? Why not, after all I’m their talent scout. So chin up. Just remember you have more pressing concern at the moment. I want The Official Spurs Rant delivered to The Bar by Christmas!
Well in Snowy for your pure white maidem century, although its sheen may be dulled a bit by LeG Rash’s hilarious assist π
And to answer your post @ 98, I’ve been dominating a bit as of llate in the century stakes, so I’ve left it to my team-mates to take shots at goal for once π
He scores when he wants, he scores when he wants… π
Now then Dr SB, welcome to The Quackery. As well as having access rights to the GT, you are, of course, being hired to oversee the wellbeing of our inmates, err, patients, err, passengers.
Mr T and I thought we’d give you a little test first up – patient Ganggoolie is always an excitable chap, but the recent good form of The Arse, and the upcoming January transfer window is sure to take these levels up a notch or two.
We’d like you to interview him and see what you can come up with. Quite frankly this whole psycho stuff seems like a load of nonsense to me, can’t see what’s wrong with the tried and trusted methods …*strikes paddle fondly*…. but that, of course, means you are emminently qualified (or not) to work here.
As far as treatment goes, do as you will. Your references suggest that you prefer not to prescribe hallucinogens, and I have to admit that this was a strong point in your favour. We’ll just keep the usual order coming in to The Quackery, but now Mr T, Wolfie and I (not too sure whether the new nurse partakes) will look after them in lieu of the patients.
Of course, you are more than welcome to not treat Patient Ganggoolie and just observe the Mania progressing. As long as he doesn’t disturb us I really couldn’t give a toss.
Just don’t prescribe any good stuff to him!
If he gets out of hand Nurse Wolfie will take over. …. *strokes paddle fondly*…..
Just want to add that my post@115 was not meant to poke fun at Totton or Bristol, I fully appreciate that it is a rather massive game for Totton). But speaking of the FA Cup, the draw for the third round is in about half an hour, will be interesting to see who we get.
And as usual a massive ‘heh’ at the Feelgood Files π
Afternoon all.
Last night I took an hour off to catch MOTD, I wish I hadn’t bothered, what a waste of good bar drinking time that was.
Hardly any credit was given, to what was one of the strongest all round Arsenal performances in quite a while, just a begrudging comment that we outplayed a very bad Wigan team, the exact same very bad Wigan team who were responsible for hammering in the last nail of Mrs Doubtfire’s coffin and were being lauded for having a fighting spirit, just a week before.
Yet, another team, with a HOME fixture against a club in the relagation zone that were forced early to play with ten men after one of the harshest red cards you’ll ever see, were bigged up as being the greatest thing since the Sliced Bread XI of 1928.
Hasn’t the sofa at the beeb been occupied by the same soppy shirt wearing, clichΓ© spoating, has beens for long enough? The Scot and the Fake Paddy are starting to even make ol’ big ears look like he’s got something decent to say, so how wrong is that.
I almost pissed my pants when one of them mentioned that ‘Arry would be keeping quiet on the Spuds title chances….
What?
Are you having a bath, you lemon?
Would that be the same Twitchy Redknapp that has been large’n’ it up all week on how the Tots could seriously win the PL?
I respect (well not really) what these coach potatoes achieved, but wouldn’t it be nice to have someone on who actually played football in this century?
Still, even those tosspots couldn’t bring me down after yesterdays result and performance, which was as solid as any of us could hope for.
A beer to kick off Sunday properly anyone?
Cheers.
Us v dirty Leeds – let’s avenge ’72 – again
And Manc V Manc – ahha!
I’ll join you in a drink, H2H. Have been parched in here all morning.
Manc vs Manc? Hmm…. warm balls?
Leeds again?! *groans*
Yes, get in!
Home draw FA Cup Game.
But I can’t go π (Stupid exams…)
Grumbles under breath…
So Leeds at home it is, will look into the possibility of flying over for that one. Might be tricky to find affordable flights, though.
CG@83: The Jack question is a tantalizing one. Long-term, he will play in the Ramsey position won’t he? The competition/cover pairings would seem to be Song/Frimpong, Arteta/Coquelin, Ramsey/Wilshere. Also, is Frimpong, off to the ACN as well as possibly Wolves?
Zico@85: π
MT@108 π
Sad news about Socrates.
Only one all PL game in the draw and it’s the (at this moment) top two placed clubs in the PL.
How times have changed, IOU usually blessed with easy home tie draws get the team all wanted to avoid away, Heh.
Not too woried about Leeds.
Absinthe Wegner’s post-match comments:
“The confidence is there and you could feel that in the way we drank today. I can only congratulate the bar. The drinks are growing and they are getting better and better.”
Ah well, ‘holic’s birthday bash will be at home to Leeds.
Sounds like a game I should try to be at π
Oh yes π
I’m trying to think – is there any risk of the Leeds game being moved to the Monday? There are reasonably cheap flights available, but it would be a bit of a bummer if I fly home on Monday morning with the game played in the evening…
There may indeed be a chance of it being moved Lars as it is one of the headline ties of the draw, although on the official site it says;
“Ties to be played 7-8 January 2012”
So I don’t think it can be moved to Monday.
But I’m not 100% sure.
Think only Prem games can be moved to Monday, but ours will be an early or late kick-off for tv coverage. Only the Manc derby more attractive I would think.
Hopefully Saturday lunchtime so we don’t get too steamed up before the game.
Cheers lads, and I do have a faint memory of there being a rule that unless the rozzers says otherwise, the third round games must be played Saturday or Sunday so if that is correct then there should not be any risk of the game being moved to the Monday. But confirmation should be coming pretty soon I guess, and once it does I’ll book the flights and the hotel. I can get flights and three nights at my preferred choice of hotel for about Β£375 so that will be my Xmas present to myself, and if the game is on the Sunday it’ll be even cheaper so it does not look like money will be an issue this time π
Good man, Lars.
Ned…. you think he will take the Ramsey role? I have no idea. I thought that he was more attacking (Ramsey) in the reserves and youth, but so far has been played in the Arteta role….
Catalan, I think we will see quite a lot of rotation and quite possibly even a midfield three of Arteta, Ramsey and Wilshere at times. I also think that Arsene will be ultra-cautious with Jack when he comes back and I think he will only be used as a sub for at least the first three or four games.
Lars
Agreed completely. I am sure he will treated like crystal.
Phil Dowd making a complete twat of himself this afternoon. Again.
On the FFG front – ‘i’ve got chills – they’re multiplying’
On the future captain Jack front – good question CG.
I reckon it could still go either way. Going on where he played last season you might be tempted to think that Jack comes in and ousts Arteta. But so well is Artetetaaa playing i’m already finding it hard to imagine this reborn Arse side without him. Plus when Jack was coming through wasn’t he a more ‘offensive’ playor – and Arsene sometimes allows players to learn the first team trade in slightly less demanding positions than the one they end up playing in – i think. But Rambo hasn’t done too badly there either, and has definitely gotten better, overall, as the season’s gone on.
Tough call – but if it were right here and now, and everyone was fully fit and raring to go – for me – Wilshere in for Rambo. Come Jan/Feb i might think differently though.
UREDS!
Psed – drinks on me for all those that are about
Basking!
And Pardon FGF front – it’s been a fairly liquid sort of a day!
Mister (or is it Doctor) C @120.
Have you considered tying patient Gangoolie down and giving him a few 1000 volts?
Or forcing him to watch Barcelona for a season?
Sounds like he may need calming down come January π
Cheers AL.
Think that ONJ link may have gone over the heads of the youngsters π
First snow fell here last night – given the ice age here prevented me getting to Wigan at home last December at exactly this time, the paranioa set in early.
Just checked London weather for Friday/Saturday and it appears it will be a tropical 12 degrees. And a balmy 0 here, but no snow for Saturday.
The EGM should therefore go ahead as planned π
zico@143: amen to that.

Talk about getting the rub of the green!
Talking of meetings, I am disappointed not to have been consulted about the sacking of the Stirling Albion manager today.
What is the point of being a co-owner π
Evening All ,
Great match report ‘Holic and some lovely stuff in the Drinks . Not much to add – a day out on the p*ss with Brazilian Gooner has pretty much seen off any chance of a cogent comment from me .
Banner headlines would in my view be :-
1. Thought Arteta had his best game thus far in Arsenal Red . Thought he was Man of The Match with the ever-industrious Ramsey not far behind .
2. Van Persie was a class apart . Everything he did was simply sumptuous . His initial one-two and then turn and shot that led to the third goal was breathtaking .
3. How did Fattenburg not see the clear penalty for the tug on Ramsey ? At 2-0 , the game was not safe , and as shown by the immediate Wigan break that almost lead to a goal , might have cost us .
4. Truly loving the “one for all and all for one ” spirit of this team . Witness TV5 ‘s joyous celebration of Arteta’s goal , how the compliment was repaid when Tommy headed home , the team’s jubilation at Flipper’s goal , and RVP singling out Theo after hitting the back of the net . All a bit of a far cry from the individual celebrations we had got used to seeing from Adebayor , the GSTEL, and dare I say it Captain Fab ?
5. Sches is a Legend .
6. The away fans are all heroic to a man .
To pick up a thread running through the drinks , I would definitely play Song against Everton .
Look forward to seeing you at 12 next week Ollie π
Mr C @48 and Ned@53 – Very true .
Snowy @95 – great post , agreed with every word .
Leg Rash , Medja tosspot and Feelgood π π
Agreed on the MOTD punditry H2H .
Dirty Leeds ! Bring ’em on . We must have played Leeds in the FA Cup more than any other club in the last 40 years ?
And finally RIP Socrates . A magnificent player in his pomp , ( those ’82 Brazilians must be , with the possible exception of the 74 Dutch , the greatest side never to have won the World Cup ) , a smoker , a drinker , and a “Doctor” who wouldn’t have looked out of place in The Quackery ! Respect .
Drinks for anyone in the Bar , and a Beecham Bomb for me please Barman .
Oh, heavens, I’m so delighted to share with you mates some very good news. My gal pals, Kate and her younger sis, Pipa will be visiting the bar very soon. Now, there are a few demands (ehm, requests) from these lovely ladies. First, there must be plenty of pink coloured drinks, with those umbrella thingies floating in them. Pipa has also requested a poster of KAKA be hung over the bar for this festive occasion.Right next to my stack of Sir Elton records. Now Kate insists Holic play his video of Ronaldo taking his shirt of in slow motion. Just think lads, plenty of juicy gossip whilst rubbing elbows with the royals. Now I know what some of you are thinking. ‘Abb, we could do without the likes of them here. We like putting our elbows on the bar and swearing a bit now and then’. OR ‘Crikey, does that mean we have to shave?! Oh yes it does!
Right.
Nuff work for today.
I see Bordeaux won (and looks like Bellion (yes, the same) was fine and scored a perfectly valid goal that was disallowed for an imaginary offside.
And Leeds at home? I’d have preferred someone else, might even have fancied an away trip.
Bah. Perhaps I shouldn’t have got tickets for Wolves and QPR, stilll don’t know what I’ll do about these (well pay through the nose to travel for the first and hope to find somewhere to spend NYE in London, I guess, not feeling clever though)
Syko Babble
Oh, I think you are going to fit in with our work practices just fine.
And, yes. Yes I have.
Wow!
I just got the title of this post π
A Stat i don’t think has been picked up on in the drinks bar,
Our 3rd goal was on the end of 33 consecutive passes,
The MOST to precede ANY goal scored in the PL so far this season.
Missing both of those Ollie, for obvious reasons, but Leeds will be the birthday bash. Bollocks to the game, let’s have the craic π
Wind @157
Good to see that literature students are as sharp as ever! π
I’m definitely intending to be at the Leeds game, ‘holic.
Oh yes, it’s near your birthday! Not that you need any excuse to celebrate π
Don’t think I’ve missed a weekend home game for a while without a good reason, mind.
Of course when I say ‘definitely’, there could still be snow to prevent it.
Sweet sweet reading in the HT league…. π
And continued congratulations to the Speedo Massive – the highest placed straight (ahem) team in the HT league…
H2H @ 122 – couldn’t agree more – smug old-pals-act-wankers. Get some new blood in there – at the mo it’s Match of The had Effin’ It’s Day
Abb- are they gooners? If they are how can they not hate every single breath Ronaldo takes?
SB – I’d rather gene tied to the chair and get the 1000 volts than watch Barca for a season.
On the Jacky front, I seriously don’t know. They’re all having (the midfield three) superb seasons and Jack is one of the best in the world. Tough decision.
Gene=get
Pardon – Match of the had it’s day – hardlyly worth repeating but there you go
MOTD2 – fuk stoke are shite to watch – thank gawd i got the right red and white
Leg Rash @ 99, Very insightful views on the shoddiness of management. Stadium management needs its own make over too. In a state of the art stadium built to hold 60,000 pissers why are there still long queues for the men’s? I ask you. My solution is to remove the Lower Level entirely and replace it with a continuous line of urinals save for one small screened section enough for two ladies. Meantime, I hope you will support my petition that all bars within a five mile radius of the Grove be closed on match day, including the stadium bars, until the final whistle blows and even then milk only to be sold for the first hour of opening.
Heh Catalan @ 160, I put Literature Students to shame, I only did it up to GCSE Level anyway.. The best teacher I ever had moved onto greener pastures and I wasn’t exactly a big fan of it so there wasn’t much incentive for doing it for my A-Levels, I’m more of a scientist if you would nowadays… π
CG@140: AW has a preference to start his future stars towards the back of the midfield and then graduate them forward. That is what he did with Cesc. Think of what he says about Jack’s need to score more goals, as he did when he was in the youth teams.
Lars@141: There will have to be rotation. When we come to the business end of the season and we are, hopefully, still in three competitions, the games come thick and fast, plus there will be the problem of accumulated yellow card suspensions. We all know how we have run out of steam in seasons past.
Arteta is showing what a good player he is. It is his misfortune to be playing in an era of so many exceptional Spanish midfielders. If he was of any other nationality he would have 100 caps by now. Was completely wasted on Everton.
Wind@157: Do try to keep up. π
SG@166: That is why AW gets the big bucks and we don’t.
Not been in for a while hope all are well, good to see a good run of league matches and good to see some goals shared, hope now the Gervinho goal gets his confidence up another this week would set him a lite i think.Leeds in the FA cup good tie and even better one of the Mancs will be going out.
I love Arteta because he plays so well without looking like his game was fantastic or something like that.
Unsung hero at its finest.
I know that AW usually puts his future stars in the middle of the park but I find that very surprising.
First, because on his own admission, the middle of the park is a lot more demanding and physical and a young player may not be ready for these battles.
Secondly, because Chambo came as a central midfielder and when asked why he puts him on the wing he said that he isn’t physically ready to play in the middle of the park in the EPL. That brings up the question, were Cesc and Jack ready when they first came to the scene?
I have to say I find that odd that he chooses to play the young (and maybe less physical) players in the middle and then transfer them to the less physically demanding attacking role and not vice versa.
I would think that it’d be more logical to put a player who is new to the EPL in a less physically demanding role and when he’s got the experience and “know how” of the EPL to put him in “the battlefield” of the middle of the park where the battles are a lot feistier.
holic was a wonderful bunch you have here – and funny too! I have been in sniggering so much my wife came out ten minutes ago to see if I was watching that porn channel again (0;
*WHAT a wonderful bunch* …this sherry is too good for cooking (0;
Back from a short holiday in Goa. Watched the match in my hotel room accompanied by lots of beer and pizza π
Everything has been said already. Arteta was my MOTM – brilliant work rate from Ramsey too
Can anyone please post the link of SZCZ leading the singing with the away fans? The video link on arseblog doesn’t seem to be working
Morning all.
Heavy session completed, so forgive me if this goes wrong.
Snir, I think (just an opinion) that AW lkes to throw new players in at the deep end just to see if they’ll swim or sink.
LJW was an attack minded midfielder as was Ramsey, Song and Cesc before him, yet they were all started as a defencive midfielder. I (once again pure conjecture) think AW puts them in that position to give them some disipline, also to gain more awareness of the players around them. Arteta at Everton was a much more forward thinking player, yet AW has curbed his forward roaming instincts, now he does an excellent job between Song and Ramsey, but still offers something going forward that the opposition don’t expect, point in case his goal this weekend.
Many don’t see it, but imho AW is sometimes a tactical genius, he takes good players and improves them by taking them slightly out of their comfort zone, once again, point in case, RvP.
Who had him down as an, out and out, centre forward?
No one, not even the Dutch national coach, yet here he is on the verge of breaking all kind of goal scoring records.
We can all (and will) speculate who should play where and how, but history tells us….. AKB.
A nightcap for all who are still up for it.

Woj at 1:30
Courtesy of Snir in previous drinks.
Thanks H2H. SZCZ – Legend
Welcome mate, and indeed, Woj is the man.
H2H – AW is a tactical genius. An economics genius. And most importantly a football genius.
He is something else. My role model, my hero.
The only thing I want is for him to get a trophy.
I encourage every single one of you to watch the movie “Moneyball” – You’ll feel a burning desire for AW to get another trophy with us due to that movie.
Although that movie is based on the wrong person (Billy Beane isn’t that successful). Bill Belichick would have been a better man for a movie like this as he created a dynasty with fringe players (undrafted rookies and free agents in American English) and by creating a team spirit which is bigger than any star.
What to say that hasn’t been said already?
Hmm, let’s see….
1) Gervinho was wearing a new headband.
2) I’ve always liked Arteta, ever since he played at Everton. He has an awesome long range shot and is pretty good at free kicks so we might see some more crackers in the future.
3) I hope Wigan don’t go down as they are one of the teams that play good football in the Prem.
4) Selection headaches are good to have. More firepower can be never be a bad thing. I think with Ramsey playing regularly and Jack coming back we may see Jack being weaned back into the team slowly and this is good as it will not see him suffer from a relapse or further injury. There’s no rush, we got Jack for a long time…
@abb: I think once your friends meet Shaft, they’ll be saying “Ronaldo who?” π
Hey Snir, how is the ear?
Did you manage to finish the 125 glasses of wine?
Or did you just go out to dine?
Good morning Mr Geuli @ 166
Please, take a seat…..the atmosphere’s electric, don’t ya think?
GoonerTerry @ 174/175, heh π
The real porn involves the King of Highbury… π
Wind – You mean this – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTebxpuryvI
?
CoR – No wine, but the ear is fine, thanks π
SB – I’d rather get the chair.
NBN@171: speaking of rotation due to suspensions/fatigue, the silver lining to the Sagna/Jack injuries might be that they will be a lot less tired come the business end of the season.
nz@172: welcome back π
Yep, that exactly Snir.
The only ‘video’ of that variety that ever made me draw tears from my eyes :’)
Dear Sir please find enclosed justification for place on HT, showing how retired exile wastes his weekend
Saturday morning, pickup partner for Bridge competion way out west at Royan (on Atlantic coast at mouth of Gironde where Cockleshell Heroes started from)
Raining and windy all the way (shouldn’t complain its 1st serious rain in months). Start comp at 1330 all way through to 2130 with occasional 10 minute breaks. Doing well at bridge -ranked 11th and lying 3rd out of 28.
Have snack meal in noisy restaurant with 300 others – eating and drinking – we having to stay sober for tomorrow – not helped by another 100 upstairs singing a mix of “bonne anniversaire” and ” ‘appy birtday to you” (correctly spelled BTW)
Retire to hotel and start zapping – a footie show – ah review of EPL – ow sh*t it finishes 1 minute later – but how did we do – night night
Start bridge at 0930 – stop for quick lunch at 1315 – fav cheap resto main course choice of lamb, steak , pasta, sauerkraut with unlimited veg – cost for 2 is 13.50 euros about 11.50 pounds – half the price of a normal meal. Finish bridge at 1845 – have to stop for a celebration drink as our team of 4 has finished 4th and we qualify for League final
Get home (in driving rain) and have to talk about missus’s weekend , confirm that Bulgarian recording of match has worked then let missus watch Dancing Antiques etc
She retires at 2315 and I will watch just a little of match as very tired
Watch 30 minutes of possession waiting for the usual opposition goal. Suddenly Arteta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK will watch a few minutes more before retiring
Corner to us – why cant RVP find that BFG – – surely there must be some practice during the week – what’s this, RVP does an almost unheard of long corner Vermeeeee!
Very tired now, so run recording at double speed – really fascinating watching us pinging all over the place – keep having to slow down and replay our attacks — How did Gervy avoid missing that 3rd goal – now watching at 4x speed as very very tired, but still lots of stop and rewind – just about see 4th goal – who was it – oh yes RVP yawn – finally retire at 0040 with a large storm outside
I rest my case dear ‘holics – this is a typical weekend for old folks – plenty of relaxation – no stress — please can I stay on the HT overnight…
Have some more tears Wind.

Cognac – Brilliant. Pure brilliance!
Shaft is still in Zurich. He is wearing a bathrobe and checking recent cables from Control on his laptop. All of a sudden the hotel room door explodes scattering splinters of wood into the room like confetti. The force of the explosion knocks Shaft off of the chair he was sitting on and he lies stunned on the floor. Two men dressed in black rush into the smoke-filled room holding Ingram Mac-11s with silencers.
Thug 1: Freeze! Donβt you f#$&ing move!
Shaft: What the hell is going on?
Thug 2: Shut your mouth, a$$hole. Get up. SLOWLY. If youβre smart, youβll do as we say.
Shaft picks himself up off the floor. He sizes the two thugs up.
Shaft: Who sent you fools?
Thug 1: We ask the questions Shaft, and right now I will ask you to be quiet and get dressed. Weβre going for a ride.
Shaft: You may have a gun but that donβt make you the boss of me.
Thug 1: Maybe not, but it does make me the one who decides whether you can pleasure a fattie ever again. So shut up and do as youβre told.
A few minutes later, Shaft is wearing handcuffs and being escorted out of the hotel into an awaiting vehicle. As he enters the car someone puts a black bag over his head the car takes off. The car stops after driving west for thirty minutes and Shaft is led into a room where he is placed on a chair in the middle of a room and left there by himself.
Shaft: WHERE AM I? WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH ME?
Someone enters the room. The black bag is removed from Shaftβs head and then the handcuffs are removed. The man then sits in a chair across from Shaft. It is none other than Patrick Vieira in a baby blue tuxedo.
Vieira: Sorry we had to go through all of this trouble Shaft, but believe me it was absolutely necessary.
Shaft: Whatβs going on here Patrick. You in with the Blatter crew too?
Vieira: What are you talking about?
Shaft: Why am I here?
Vieira: Is something wrong with you John? Youβre the one who requested to see me.
Shaft: Wha?
A look of sudden realization flashes across Shaftβs face. He starts chuckling and shaking his head.
Shaft: Oh Sugar Lips, you idiot. I asked you to book me a room in the Rivieraβ¦
There is the sound of glass being shattered into thousands of pieces as Carlos and El Jefe crash through the skylight holding shotguns.
Carlos: Freeeeze! Shaft, are you alright?
Shaft: Itβs okay, itβs okay! Just a misunderstanding fellas. Howβd you find me anyway?
El Jefe: The tracker in your moustache wax Shaft. I swear you only listen when we talk about the chicasβ¦
Vieira: Well this is one big mess. I thought you wanted to see me to find out about the mole at the Emirates.
Shaft: What do you know about that?
Vieira: Enough. The question is, do you want the info or not.
Shaft: Why should we trust you? Youβre with those filthy moneybags, we donβt know your intentions.
Vieira: Heh, Iβm here at the request of The Boss, mon ami. Why do you think I keep recommending Mancini to buy Arsenalβs deadweight at crack prices?
Shaft: I did think that line about making City the βnew Barcelonaβ was a bit over-the-top, now that you mention itβ¦
Vieira: No, I meant that. When Iβm done there theyβll be full of c$nts just like the real one. Now, do you want this info or not?
Shaft: Yeah, hit me with it.
Vieira: Itβs unbelievable you havenβt guessed who it is yetβ¦.Anyway, Dein is the mole. Darren Dein. Not sure if heβs working alone or not though.
Shaft: Thatβs alright, weβll take it from here. Sorry for messing your shit up Paddy.
Vieira: Donβt worry about it, my army of gnomes will have this fixed by morning.
Shaft: You and your gnomes.
Shaft, Carlos and El Jefe exit the premises and depart in a black truck. The licence plate says, βFATTY LUVR.β Vieira picks up his cellphone and makes a call.
Vieira: They bought it. Everything going according to plan.
It gets worse Snr – now I start catching up – and we’re playing my son’s team in t’cup,
and also we’re supposed to meet up for my birthday 28th – in Lille, and SNCF are gonna be on strike each weekend in December (nothing new but kids are coming Eurostar and us TGV with no clear route home afterwards)
No stress there then!!
Morning all…
Plays one or two pretty little triangles, taking the opposition DM right out of the game and advances into the final third doing Socrates-esque stepovers and dragbacks. Plays a delicious ball out to the onrushing winger…
It looks like it’s trickling harmlessly out of play until SUDDENLY…
Trying honestly not to pre-pre-pre-pre-self-assist but not getting a whole lotta help…
Gets bored waiting for the support to get into his third of the pitch and starts playing keepy-uppy by the corner flag…
Oh, go on then…
*Pretending to be Theo* – squares it for the forward to tap in..
Finally! Gets his goal but it’s a hollow victory and he knows it. Slinks off to do some work…
Nice shank π
Cognac @ 189, well in mate for qualifying, hardly call that a waste eh…
Worried with your fast-forwarding due to tiredness that you might have missed Vermaelen’s header but no worries there π
Shaft @ 192, some of your best work yet me thinks π
Well in Snir @ 200 π
Currently on an exercise bike while typing this, will watch the further tear-jearker in about an hour π
Camberwell, tut tut, veering of the straight and narrow, I’m disappointed lol. More ‘corrective’ work needs to be done it seems, meet me on the training pitches π
The scene : in a retreat somewhere in the Home Counties, Dr Feelgood is back in the sanitised office awaiting a new arrival. The Blonde Girl with The Ponytail is fussing around with some papers as Feelgood fidgets in his chair, impatient, and nervous, his eyes wildly darting around in his head……
Feelgood : “Where is he? Who is he? What’s next? You know what? I could murder a rum and coke…..”
The Blonde : “Rum and coke? It’s 8: 30 in the morning……don’t really think that’s the best way to start the day, do you?”
Feelgood : “Yeah. And end it. Unless you had something else in mind. (Feelgood winks).”
The Blonde (coyly) : “I don’t know what you mean. As for alcohol, you have no chance here. Haven’t you grasped that this is a place of healing? The Doctors are trying to cleanse you, both physically and spiritually…..”
Feelgood : “The only spiritual help I need is from Dr Ron………Bacardi. With a chunk of ice, and some cool tunes from the Happy Train jukebox. Which reminds me, whatever happened to Dr Spin?”
The Blonde: “Another one of your famous “friends”?
Feelgood : “Oh, not you, as well. They’re ALL real. Each with their own particular brand of psychosis, granted, but as real as my Doctorate from the University of …….wherever it was…..”
The Blonde : “Ah, one of your infamous memory lapses. The new guy is going to help with that. He’ll help you remember.”
Feelgood: “Torture? I won’t be tortured, will I?”
The Blonde : “Good heavens, no. Have you been tortured before?”
Feelgood : “Roxette’s mother came to live with us once…..”
The Blonde : “Well from what I’ve heard, the treatment you will receive is fairly orthodox. Just regular hypnosis.”
Feelgood (fearful) : “Hypnotised?”
The Blonde : “You’ve been hypnotised before?”
Feelgood : “I think so. Roxette often says “Don’t just stand there like a fart in a trance….””
At that point, the door opens. The 2 muscular gentlemen appear, quickly followed by Feelgood’s new “psychologist”. His face cannot be seen, as it is behind the visor of his Peruvian Anti Riot Suit……
Feelgood (trembling voice) : “Carlos?”
To be continued:
Shaft , brilliant stuff π , but PV4 a traitor ? Surely not . One reader here certainly hoping he turns out to be a double double agent .
“The tracker in your moustache wax” heh π
Dr Feelgood – fantastic π π
It would appear that Carlos is a busy boy this morning , first meeting up with Shaft and PV4 , and then about to see off Feelgood , once and for all . Must get his thoughts on the matter … π
He’s a traitor tabs.
Like all the French at Manchester City.
tabs – is it Carlos though? π
Ah , it looks like I’ve jumped the gun !! This is better than Dallas Dr Z , and with the body on Victoria Principal , praise doesn’t get any higher than that ! But who else has a PARS suit ?
Oh I’m sure all will be revealed.
Or not. π
I suspect that the course of Feelgood’s therapy still has a bit to run.
Very nice Dr Z, things are hotting up!!!
cognac@189: “Corner to us β why cant RVP find that BFG β – surely there must be some practice during the week β whatβs this, RVP does an almost unheard of long corner Vermeeeee!”
Was I the only one to hear the voice of Internet Joe while reading that? π
Seriously, I hope that all those brilliant Shaft/Feelgood episodes have been saved, they need ther own tab at the top like BTA!
Given the number of assists that turn into being the decisive touch, I wonder about the technical skills in this bar…. :p
In other news, this
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/legends-statues-nearing-completion
suggests that one of the three played after the change of badge.
Will it be Thierry or Dennis (I’d have thought a statue of Dennis would still have the previous badge though, not sure when we changed however) ?
And of course I mean ‘last change’ because there’s been many.
Good afternoon ‘Holic & ‘Holics
‘Holic – Really pleased to see you acknowledging The Magnificent Travelling Faithful. A brilliant new RVP song born and a superb performance from Szczesy post match, what a legend that boy has become. Will never forget his wink to us at The Sh*thole after he broke The Chimp in two for the second time in the game. Hoping to join the away support for The Vanilla game on 21st.
Lars @ #212 – Here’s a thought. The Verminator has scored more goals this season than Bendy. The Greatest Centraaal Defender That Evah Liiiived?
tabs @ #153 – Dirty Leeds again, eh? Look forward to resuming hostilities. Somehow, I doubt this current Arsenal team will give them the opportunity for a replay at Filthy Elland Road π
CoR & zico – More top japery, thanks chaps!
A final point for those twatspatulas on MoTD over the weekend and I know this has been said already but please allow me to indulge myself. LWCs beat a poor 10 man Bolton team at home and Hansen & Co. enjoy a ‘pigeon-on-a-basketball-w*nkfest’. We destroy an up-for-it, 11 man Wigan team (who were also poor) 4-0 away from home and all they can talk about is how cr*p Wigan are. Meeja agenda? What meeja agenda?
Cheers all, drinks are lined up on the bar for all. A freshly stocked CMC is open. Why not check out the Green, Brown or White Tins? π
twatspatulas – heh π
SG@ 173 & H2H@177: It may be all those young players started off as attacking midfielders because at those tender ages they were so much better than the other players that was what they naturally were. I think you are right that they get their PL starts playing much deeper to instill some defensive discipline in them, discipline of which they may not have previously had much need. It also fits with AW’s philosophy of having players in all positions who are comfortable on the ball.
Lars@187: That is true. A break is as good as a rest, so to speak. And while we’ve spoken of the Wilshere/Ramsay selection question, Kos is looking so much the part at right back, Sagna can’t take it for certain that he’ll go straight back into the team.
Ollie@213: This bar scores when it wants.
Ollie, one of the statues has his hand outstreched – so I’d say it’s David Seaman.
TS: I saw almost the whole of the Wolves-Sunderland game and Bendy was absolutely awful throughout the whole game. He didn’t look bothered at all, a bit like he was thinking “I’m to good to play with these useless tossers” or something.
zico @ #216
Cheers but outrageous plagiarism on my part. Was it Blogs who coined that term? Dr.S may have been the first user of it in this bar?
Lars @ #218
I didn’t see it (just like le Boss, heh!) but apparently he was strolling around like a super-sized Arshavin. To be fair Martin O’Neill will probably sort him out or ship him out. I just hope Nickky-boy now realises what he’s missing at The HoF. Bridges burnt or (if you had the choice) would you have him back and put Park out on loan? Controversial? π
NBN @ #217
This bar scores when it wants
Excellent and true! π
Dr Z – I look forward to continuing episodes with relish . I will hold off with Carlos’ thoughts until all is revealed ! π
TS – One of my best pals is a Leeds man . Had the pleasure of taking him to Highbury to watch The Thierry Henry show , when we put 5 past them . He walked out 20 mins from the end ” to beat the rush and get the beers in “! Will almost certainly be at the game with him again , so I look forward to having a slice of ‘Holic’s birthday cake ! π
Still , one game at a time , as they say , so already gearing myself up for the massive sesh that will be Saturday π
Lars , Ollie – I believe the first season with the new badge was 02-03 , so Thierry and Denis would still be ok .
If one is Spunky , I would have to confess to being a little disappointed . Marvellous player , but feel he was kept on 3 years past his sell by date . Harsh ? Maybe , but I just feel there are more deserving recipients . On the goalkeeping front alone , I would put Jack Kelsey and Bob Wilson in front of Seaman . Kelsey before my time , but according to older Gooners , pretty much kept the threat of relegation at bay single-handedly for a few seasons , and then went on to manage The Arsenal shop . Bob Wilson , proper Arsenal man , who can always be found in the Trenches , when the Club needs to be defended .
TS, difficult one – Bendy does undeniably have the talent but maybe his head has disappeared a bit too far up his posterior regions. His confidence has always been both a blessing and a curse, but judging from what I’ve seen from him lately it seems the blessing bit has been overtaken too much by the curse side of things.
Lars, thought about that, but even more than Dennis, he would have the complicated badge rather than the new one.
Bob Wilson or Jack Kelsey could have an outstretched hand too (assuming that’s a ‘keeper and that it’s different from the one with the Logo).
And thanks tabs.
heh, just reading the whole of your post now, tabs.
Great minds, etc….
tabs, if it is a goalie I am with you on Seaman not being the best choice so I don’t think it is him after all. Both Wilson and Kelsey were well before my time but Wilson is undoubtedly a bigger legend than Seaman.
Squad for tomorrow :
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-names-18-man-squad-for-olympiacos
And the statue of Szcz is still in the storage room π
Now we can have a game of ‘guess the starting XI’…
I start:
Wookash
Djourou Verminator(c) Squill Miquel
Coquelin Frimpong Benayoun
AOC Chamakh Arhsavin
tabs @ #222 (worthy of another celebration?) – Lovely story re Dirty Leeds and I’m going to see if I can get to The Leeds game too. I rather fancy 5-0 could be on the cards again depending on which team we put out. Totally with you on Bob Wilson, I’ve said it before but he is my hero. Top Gunner, top player, top human being. Spunky, great as he was, wasn’t averse to jumping on the bandwagon this summer. Bob is far too classy for that. Looking forward to Saturday too, of course. I might ask Edwin to knock-up an anti-yakking suit for the more delicate types like me. Table dancing tested JCs might also be useful? π
lars @ #223 – I think you’re right. It’s a v.long way back for Bendy into this current Arsenal team but stranger things have happened.
Drinks of choice for you both on Lars’ tab π
Ollie
Your link at #229 is broken, courtesy of Pravda so allow me:
The full squad is: Arshavin, Benayoun, Chamakh, Coquelin, Djourou, Eastmond, Fabianski, Frimpong, Mannone, Miquel, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ozyakup, Park, Rosicky, Santos, Squillaci, Vermaelen, Yennaris
Ollie@229: makes picking the starting line up a lottery.
Fabianski
Yenaris, Vermaelen, Squillaci, Miguel
Frimpong, Coquelin, Rosicky
Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chamakh, Arshavin
TS, the link works very well with me when accessed from here. Must be your interweb that’s broken π
Ollie, how bizzare. I get a ‘404: Page Not Found’ error but embedded on a Pravda web-page which maybe suggests they’ve moved the content. Everything working just fine here thanks π
Funnily enough, NBN, yours was my instinctive first line-up.
Then I thought given the shortage of right-back he probably wants to play on with Djourou (to be some experienced alternative to Kos there until the real right-backs come back) and I don’t know the fitness of Rosicky coming back.
Of course, there’s always a good chance that there are other twists, but generally line-ups have tended to be more predictable, so I’d say our guesses seems decent.
I’ll put a question mark about Arshavin too(seeing as he didn’t even start the Carling Cup game, weirdly).
Still, a bit gutted that once more it’s not on C+ sport as they deem the Cuntski vs Valencia game to be more worthy (for once I have to admit it’s probably true for the neutrals….).
Will have to stream-hunt again.
Ollie, there is something very fishy about that squad list. They say it is in alphabetical order… and it actually is! What is going on???
Damn, I tried after your 233 post and it worked, but now I try and it doesn’t indeed!
Weird.
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-names-18-man-squad-for-greece-trip
heh, extraordinary, they’ve just changed the name from ‘Olympiacos’ to ‘Greece trip’.
Regarding the Arsenal legends statues.
News just in that one could be Cashley Hole :-0
https://twitter.com/#!/Arsenes_Eyes/status/143707846100520960/photo/1
didn’t check the previous page closely, but on inspecting this one, I can only have one explanation for the change:
THEY HAVE AT LAST MASTERED THE ALPHABET!!
*reads page again and marvels*
Haha at 241.
Just read on the Arsenal Twitter feed that Bob Wilson is doing a book signing session at the Armoury on Friday.
Remind me again, what day are the statues to be unveiled? Oh, yeah, on Friday…
Coincidence? I think not π
Of course, that applies equally to Adebayour, Gallas, etc., etc. π
Lars, good spot. It’s all starting to make sense.
Goonerholic is doing a book signing session on Wednesday.
I think he should have a statue too.
And I realise that I didn’t see your 238 when I posted my 242.
So after the previous goalkeeper post following tabs’, I must make it clear that I am not copying anyone.
It’s just that the collective ‘holicsmind seems to be shared and I’m at a branch end so the info must be getting to me later.
Still, great mind(s), that one.
Thanks fellas for the support of my crappy but wild writing π
All alcohol/boredom induced at the moment, maybe it’ll be good practice for writing my comic in the near future…
Anyone see an Arshavin brace and Chamakh against Olympiakos? Or is this cheap red wine lying to me?
and a Chamakh header*
I’ll have some of that red wine, thank you ;D
Here ya go Ollie mate π
The bottle just says “Wine” though….
Heh , pop out for a couple of hours , and comes back to find a huge betting surge on Robert Primrose(wtf?) Wilson . Would be a very sound choice in my opinion . I would love the other two to be Rocky and Denis (on the basis that ‘Holic doesn’t quite make the final cut ! π )
Table dancing JC’s TS ? Now there’s a thought . Probably not needed as I don’t think Lars is with us this time (?) , but ply me with enough Rum , and I wouldn’t rule anything out ! π
Bendy ? Bridges well and truly burned as far as I’m concerned . He should stick to philosophical questions suited to being the Prince of Denmark , such as whether he’s a Bee , or not .
Cheers for the drink TS and heh @241 .
Have to say I’m amazed the Verminator and Santos are making the trip . Surely they will both be left on the Bench ? Will be really pissed off if either pick up a knock in a game just about as meaningless as it gets . With that in mind , my team is :-
Fab
Yennaris Djourou , Schillachi , Miguel .
Coq , Frimpong , Benny
Ox , Chamakh , Arsh .
Park , Rosicky to feature from the Bench .
Denis, you say, tabs?
Probably together with Leslie then. Cricket+Arsenal legends? That works.
tabs, I will not be there on Saturday unfortunately. I’ll have to save the table climbing until the Leeds game!
It will be easier to climb on a table…..once your wallet has been emptied π
See you in January then, Lars.
Ollie@253 – heh , undone by the spelling stickler … again π Mind you , make you completely right on The Arsenal/Middlesex combo .
Will look forward to seeing that table-dancing hip wiggle in January , Lars π
Ollie @253 – thats where I came in – because of the Compton ‘twins’
Picking ‘the’ Arsenal goalie (or any other position) is difficult because each 10 years there are more supporters who recognise the current or last holder of the position so Kelsey would get less votes today than Jennings or Wilson or Seaman
How can one compare saving a heavy mud-laden ball 30 odd matches to the 50+matches with a light fast moving ball that moves so easily through the air
They always said that the 2 maddest players on a pitch were the goalie and CF as they risked everything in 1-1 confrontations week after week
Later it was the the DM who was hardest – I seem to remember that Norman bite-your-legs Hunter said that our Peter Storey was the hardest DM of them all
Liam was the best AM
My preferred forwards were Ray K, Charlie G, Denis B and TH – each were best at their time – I know that DB and TH played together some of the time
Just had a speed read of The Arses . Blogs is in the know but sworn to secrecy as to the identity of the 3 statues . He has however confirmed that one will NOT be Rocky . Boo !!
Ah, thanks tabs. Can’t check the arses before I go home.
And that’s where I’m heading now! π
Right, this Leeds game and table dancing fest :
Will it (the match) be on the Saturday or the Sunday?
Saturday, I may stand a snowball’s chance in hell of making it. Sunday slightly less. But not prepared to admit defeat until I’ve exhausted all avenues.
Anyone in the know?
NBN @ 171, allow me , I was still under the euphoria of our performance and victory π
Snir @ 190, ahh, one of my favourites, not neccessarily a tear-jerker (bit of american dad anyone?) but still beautiful nevertheless π
Dr Z – book your ticket ! 12.45 on the Sat .
http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/FACompetitions/TheFACup/NewsAndFeatures/2010/3RP-TV-031210
Oh dear, Roxette brownie points about to go seriously into debit.
If I turn up on Saturday wearing shades and a black eye underneath, that’ll be a “no” π
Heh π
Well done tabs @ #262
Dr.z @ #263, have they ever been in credit? Might be worth taking a little extra pain to see us beat off Dirty Leeds π
tabs. Seriously?
You’ve seen the barman’s 137 too, right?
How much power does this man have?
Although, now that I have checked your link, I was wondering how even the FA could make the mistake of putting ‘saturday January 8th’ when the 7th is saturday.
Then I saw the year! Haha, cheeky tabs.
I suppose I could have just examined the link without even clicking on it, to be fair. Well I’m just back from work.
I need a drink.
Thanks.
I’m sorry Snir, it isn’t a tear-jerker like the King of Highbury’s 226 in 14 minutes but it stirs up emotional deep inside me.
#21, 24 and 28 on the link Snir posted are my personal favourites, along with his 99th and 100th only because I was at the Emirates that day to experience the joy and love the whole stadium was projecting out to Robin van Persie π
Ollie@266 , feck , completely unintentional , didn’t even look at the other fixtures . Hope I’m not responsible for Dr Z being assaulted by Roxette . Better send something to him through the Back channels – a suit of armour perhaps !
Dr Z , you have mail .
Chainmail tabs? π
tabs, cheers for the FA link – flights booked!
Ouch. Ouch. and bloody Ouch.
Actually that was my imagination.
She’s out.
Still, a close shave all round. I need a drink…. π
Dr Z – Phew !
Lars – I’m too old for you to be giving me heart palpitations !
*off for a lie-down and a soothing rub-down with a copy of The Sporting Life*
Oh dear tabs, what HAVE you done???
LARS, you may need that wallet π
Lars, for time travel, I suggest you speak to our resident timelord.
Hope you enjoy the game (I’ve a feeling we’ll need a replay – think Cesc may come on as sub) π
I guess one has to hope that a year on they willl choose the same sort of kick-off time then?
Or are Lars’ flights the refundable/exchangeable type?
Anyway, I’ve just realised that sadly, I kind of want us to lose tomorrow:
a) Marseille get kicked out
b) Bonus, should Borussia trash Marseille, they’re through.
heh Dr Z @276.
I think they must have a few De Loreans left in Sweden.
In what manner shall we stuff the Greeks, and what name shall we apply to the result of said stuffing. The Massive Spanakopita Missive, shall we say? That would be MSM for quick reference, of course. π
Ollie @ 278, although I know you’re talking about the hard-fought, gave it your all, deserved to win sort of 3-2 loss or the like, but I can’t bear to see the Arsenal lose. (Well maybe if T*ttenh*m would as a direct result be relegated and we had already won the league by a sizable gap and by proxy celebrated St Totteringham’s Day a LOONG time ago :))
I’m actually looking forward to tomorrow’s match with the Young Gunners, maybe tomorrow’s the day Chamakh and Arshavin return to form, I’m a fan of them both (Wolves 1-2 Arsenal Chamakh 1′, 90+4′ & Liverpool 4-4 Arsenal + Arsenal 2-1 B*rca) and would wish that neither would leave the club if it can be helped.
A loss would put unwelcome pressure on the boss as well, who doesn’t need it at all, and so although I’d like Dortmund to go through, I’m happy for it to happen as long as it’s not at our expense π
I had a dream today that RvP signed. Since I’m the bar clairvoyant you know what that means. Gooners around the world can relax now ! π
Oh f**k, I didn’t notice either that the link was from last year π
But tabs, don’t worry – not your fault. I am flying home on the Monday but I can change the flight if I need to, so no harm done!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
My logic is completely flawed, no? We need to win for Dortmund to qualify.
D’oh!
Ollie @ 284 why would we want to give Dortmund another crack at us later in the comp?
