Thirty Three Years? Never, It Seems Like Yesterday.
Dec 23rd, 2011 by 'holic
The last half a day at work, and yet it didn’t feel like Christmas when first I opened my eyes this morning. Ho-hum, just another day. The boiling kettle, the cup of tea, same old, same old. Off to check emails and Twitter. Christmas was just about to strike in the most wonderful way.
A massive thanks to all those who were tweeting about the anniversary of our 5-0 win at the Lane on this day in 1978, and especially those who linked to the Match of the Day highlights of the game. It remains among my most treasured memories and although I have seen the goals since I cannot recall having seen that magnificent highlights package. It all came flooding back.
I had good contacts that day who sorted me out with prime seats behind the terracing in the Park Lane End, which in those days was allocated entirely to the Arsenal. I can’t honestly say I remember the train journey up from Maidenhead, where I lived at the time, but I do know the pre-match pints were in the LWC’s Supporters Club, would you believe. A few of us used to go in on our Arsenal Supporters Club membership cards because, frankly, it was the safest place to drink in the area at that time. A far cry from the days before the fixture became an all-ticket affair, when we pretty much treated the place as our property.
The first minute opener by Alan Sunderland set the mood on a cold December afternoon, and when he grabbed a second before half time it made the Bovril taste all the sweeter. It was the second-half and the aftermath that remained ingrained on my memory through all of the intervening thirty three years. Liam Brady, much-maligned by the local neanderthals, decided to take the game over. With Hoddle and Ardiles in midfield their back four were dependent on Perryman and the aptly-named Pratt to provide cover in front of them. It was a task that was beyond them. Frankly no two players could keep the number seven at bay when he was on song.
Liam’s direct running at the defence and inch-perfect cross set up Stapleton for our third goal, a diving header. The fourth goal will never be forgotten by anybody in the Park Lane that day. It was rightly voted the goal of the season, and remains to this day my clear all-time favourite. From the moment he stretched to relieve Taylor of possession I swear we were on our feet celebrating the inevitable, although time may be playing tricks with my recollection. The remarkable left foot curler could not have been better struck. Absolute pandemonium broke out as first he celebrated directly in front of us, then jogged towards his tormenters on the Shelf, regarding them with utter scorn. It was delicious to witness.
Large swathes of the home support had already made their exit by the time Alan Sunderland completed a superb hat-trick. “Silent Spurs” echoed around the rapidly-emptying dump. We found out where large numbers of them had gone on the way out. The walk back to Seven Sisters turned into one of the most hostile strolls I ever experienced there, but that will never detract from the fact that for one fabulous day we had feasted on our old rivals.
Liam, forever you will be the Spirit of Christmas for me.
We won 5-0, we won 5-0, we won 5-0, at the Lane.

First? Merry Christmas.
Get in. The speed of the middle aged chubster knows no bounds.
6x please barman? As its the festive period.
Gonna read the post now.
Am I just being greedy here?
Great piece. Was not at the game but remember it very well. Chippy is always one of those blokes that will always be etched permanently into Arsenal folklore.
Happy Christmas everyone. Heres to a winning and consistent holiday season with lashings of cheap booze..Great post always nice to watch them suffering at this time of year. Van De Vart…Ha
Evening Steve. Everything done now so you can relax tomorrow?
Evening Sir Holic
Well I am not going out again. If it ain’t, it aint. I trust all good your end? Mrs H firmly on the road to recovery?
She should be ok for this weekend, Steve, and that is the main think. We’ll worry about after Christmas next week.
Have a good ‘un maestro.
All the best, ‘holic. And Steve T.
Hellollie 😉
Just misses the top 10….. goes back to read the post.
Great read holic happy Xmas to all gunners now I’m off to watch match of the day!
Nice one Holic I loved that result hope to meet up in the tolly soon, have a great Christmas and a healthy new year, all the best to all Goonerholics cheers guys , and the fine fellow that is Snowy
Man, that Alan Sunderland… ‘looks up wistfully’ 🙂
Hello Danny. Happy Christmas to you and yours, sir.
Everything crossed in the Steve T household for nothing but positive news holic. Seasons greetings to you and yours.
Ollie. Same to you. Have a great one. I hope you saw the link to a little ditty that I posted in the last session. It was with you in mind having read about the complications those terribly underpaid tube drivers had caused you.
To all those I regularly converse with, and to all fellow holics I wish you all the very best for a healthy and happy Christmas. May the bird of your choice remain moist and receive the appropriate amount of stuffing. Glad tydings to one and all.
Raises glass to toast fellow holics along with max points over the festive period.
I love you all……
This game is one of my first specific memories of the Arsenal. Watching it as a ten year old on my friend’s black and white tv upstairs whilst Christmas adult celebrations went on downstairs.
I can still feel the sensation of disbelief at Chippy’s goal. I’d never seen anything like it. I thought that maybe memories were rose tinted. They weren’t.
Glorious.
If I don’t get a chance tomorrow, merry Christmas one and all, and especially Holic. Wishing you and yours a healthy new year too.
Heh Steve T re the bird (s). 🙂
Holic
It’s been an absolute pleasure reading your consistently top notch postings during 2011,we did have some very dark days to be sure, but the visiting bloggers consistent vein of humour in adversity, kept us all, well almost all of us,looking on the bright side of life.!!
it is only a game afterall.!!
I’m very pleased your good Lady Wife is home for Christmas, albeit still recovering.
Does that mean you are cooking the Christmas Turkey.??
6 pts from our Black Country visitors, and the Hoops from across Town will be the double cream on the mince pies as far as all Gooners are concerned.!!
Have a very enjoyable christmas with the family.
Cheers
Clive
A Happy Christmas and Healthy New Year to ‘holic and the management. And the same to all the ‘holics wherever you are!!
Holic, I’m feeling a little misty-eyed with this one. What a glorious present you have given us. I know I speak on behalf of all the holics that your wife regains her strength very soon. God bless.
Who could forget that game, looking back on it though, (great link) made me wonder what kind of hanus crime you’d of had to commit to get a yellow card back then 😉
All the best for Christmas to all “holics and your loved ones.
Wonderful memories ‘Holic.
Have a very merry Christmas barman and all at the bar.
Those memories justify a nip of Glenmorangie all round (£20 at the Co-op – courtesy of a tip from the barman).
Cheers all.
Also, if I can remember rightly, that picture you’ve posted of Brady’s post wonderstrike celebration, was one of the most used images in matchday programmes for years after.
All:
In viewing the video the announcer mentioned that Arsenal had four former Spurs in the line-up. Since my football birth in 2006, I don’t recall any ex-Spuds playing in our line-up. Who was the last?
As always, I love these little trips down memory lane. Great to see so much footage from the game, I have of course seen the Brady goal many, many times but never this much of the rest of the game.
A fun bit of trivia in that MOTD footage is when Motson talks about the gloves that Pat Jennings was wearing that had a “special rubber facing on the front which allows the goalkeeper to grip the ball more easily”. In those days some keepers still didn’t use gloves at all. Even well into the eighties you could see the odd keeper with bare hands, I have memories of that Scottish keeper (his name escapes me at the moment) in the 1982 World Cup playing without gloves.
Would also like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a nice, safe and relaxing Xmas weekend!
Gedo: Sol Campbell, who played for us as late as January-May 2010.
Ah, yes, I forgot about that although I never saw him play for Spurs. Looks like its basically one-way traffic….for a good reason!! Thanks Lars.
There have been some good ones down the years, Gedo.
Clive will remember Vic Groves and Jimmy Robertson. That video features Pat Jennings who will rank with Sol as the most successful import from the rabble. Willie Young turned into a cult hero. George Hunt and Freddie Cox predate me, although ‘holicdad remembered perhaps the most famous ex-LWC to grace Highbury. One Herbert Chapman esq.
Cheers ‘holic and hoilcs –
“Look at that – oh look at that!” and what a joy seeing that Arsenal attack again – spear-headed by just about the finest pairing of the late ’70s – the Alan Sunderland afro and ‘tache
I was there!! Gosh 33-years was it Holic? That Brady goal: I remember the buzz of anticipation as he picked up the ball in midfield. I was directly behind the left side goal post and to me it looked as if it was going wide. So I think I covered my face and said “oh shit” thinking that it had missed. But when I was thrown forward by the crowd going absolutely ape-shit I realized it had gone in!
Leaving the match I got a punch in the nose coming up towards Seven Sisters by a silly Spud who ran across the road towards us. I started to give chase but a few Gooners – led by my mate V… who I had lost before the game – got a hold of the miscreant before I got to him and gave him a few kicks for his troubles. The police arrived just in time to prevent another drubbing for all of a sudden there were hundreds of Gooners and only about 20 Spuds who I suppose were making their way back behind enemy lines..
I was at the match too. Surely not 33 years ago? God, I’m getting old. I remember leaving the ground with my mate and us feeling that it wasn’t safe to talk until we got to the far end of the Seven Sisters Road for fear we would sound too happy.
Shamefully, the only other thing I remember about the match (apart from the scoreline, of course) was a lady Gooner in the upper tier waving her scarf a little too energetically and dropping it on the Sp**s below. She seemed genuinely surprised when they wouldn’t throw it back to her. They set fire to it instead.
Good news about the Management ‘Holic.
A merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all your readers.
Lars
Alan Rough.
31, 32, and 33 All great stuff! Off to work with a smile on my face cause of you guys.
Didn’t Snir start this rumor?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/16324231.stm
If it comes to fruition, I only hope Henry is still up for it so his reputation isn’t tarnished, but if he can make it come off, all I can say is boffo!!!
My best wishes to ‘The ‘holics’ for Xmas and hope all is ok.
And seasons greetings to everyone in the bar, old friends and new.
Wow I loved the MOTD highlights, lovely memories of proper football.
Did anyone else notice not a single black player though? Astonishing.
Great post Holic!
I myself am pretty familiar with the Braddy cracker but haven’t seen the rest of the game before watching this highlight (which I think I’ll download and put on my Itouch). I cracked up when after only the third goal went in the commentator said that “Tottenham run the risk now of being demoralized…” Tickled me for some reason 😀
Good luck with your Christmas Eve shopping everyone! I’m asking Santa Wenger for 9 points (at least) over the Christmas season, a defender on loan and a striker, and for good cheer from the rest of you!
P.S. Right next to that clip is Arsenal beating Newcastle in the 76-77 season

Here’s a little Christmas present for those who have not seen it yet:
http://youtu.be/fLffftvF_Hg
Evening Holics and a Merry Christmas to one and All ,
Ready for bed , but a trip down Memory Lane like this couldn’t wait for a morning where no doubt there will be other pressures – birds to be stuffed and all that , phnaar phnaar .
My first N London Derby was in 72 , and I don’t think I missed one home or away from about 76 , but Spurs relegation (for one glorious season) , and my intervening transfer to a Spud-dominated secondary school meant that this was the first N London Derby where the result REALLY mattered in a personal sense . Lose , and I would be consigned to a personal hell of never-ending schoolboy taunts .
Having just reached the grand old age of 14 , I was for the first time trusted by my Dad to make the 2 ticket application (by letter) for the arsenal end . As the days ticked by towards Christmas , and still the tickets didn’t arrive , imagine my consternation . Morning and Afternoon posts were checked before the postman had left the property , and the absence of any letter bearing the canon-marked envelope led to a near nervous breakdown .
“Must have got lost in the Christmas post Son ” was my father’s relaxed approach , but I knew that however generous he was to my face , there was an unsaid suspicion that I had somehow messed up the application . Had I got Arsenal’s address wrong ? Blimey , had I even got our own address wrong ? It became not just another football match . The stakes were inordinately higher . Was I ready to enter the adult world ? Could I be trusted with something as simple as a written application ? This wasn’t football , this was a test of my aspiring adult masculinity .
3 days before Christmas and still no tickets . The Club assured us that the tickets had been sent , but a trip to the local sorting office yielded no positive outcome . Time to admit defeat . I was not yet ready for adulthood ! Not going was simply not an option . There was nothing else for it . My father and I would have to go and stand in the Shelf with all my smirking schoolmates , who were all convinced that a Spurs victory was all but certain .
And so it was that we took our position in the Upper tier of the old Shelf towards the Paxton Rd End . I will not take you through the game , if you weren’t there , you will by now have watched the highlights ( Big Thank you Holic ) , save to say that the game was never in doubt from Alan Sunderland’s first minute opener .
The expressions of my Spud mates went through the gamut from early disappointment to taciturn resignation , and ended at insufferable humiliation . I was still young enough to bounce around at every Arsenal goal without risking life and limb , whilst my father looked on in a state of blissful superiority .
The final whistle blew . 5-0 . Complete and utter humiliation for my Spurs mates . Leaving the ground I remarked to my Dad with all the wisdom of a fourteen year old that “I felt a bit sorry for them ” .
“Never ever feel sorry for ’em son . They won’t feel sorry for you when the boot’s on the other foot ”
5 seasons later I was able to put that theory to the test when I was at the Lane to see us lose 5-0 . My father was right . The Spud hordes didn’t feel sorry for me in the slightest !
So when dreams of a new ground turn to dust , when they are overhauled by us in the race for a top 4 spot , when Harry has nearly bankrupted them , and when the present “halcyon” period for the Spuds ends in utter disillusion , NEVER EVER feel sorry for the fools . They deserve every agony coming to them . When it came to the most important decision of their lives , they got it badly badly wrong , and therefore they must pay with their hopes , their dreams , and their self-respect .
Off to watch the highlights 🙂
PS – The tickets for the Park Lane turned up sometime just before New Year – victims of the Christmas post . I held my head up , my passing into adulthood was assured . 🙂
Greetings to ‘holic and all the other ‘holics from Toulouse where we are for Xmas
I hope you all have a wonderful relaxing time with no stress and dreams of all the victories to come
Hey ‘holic! Brilliant memories. My first trip there. On the overground to WHL station itself and then into The Railway, which was pretty laid back really. Not so laid back afterwards! Brady absolutely dominated that game in the second half and was itching to score a screamer, long before he connected properly and scored the greatest goal ever. Happy daze.
Personally, I think Henry will sign, Le Boss wouldn’t risk offending him by publicly deciding he is no longer of any use. If his use is limited to less demanding games or the final half hour of bigger games, his technical skills, including free kicks, can mitigate the loss of some pace.
Regardless, seasonal cheers to Holic and holics from a watering hole in Chennai with a bottle of coconut toddy.
Morning Esso, wish I had taken your route. Won a couple and lost a couple on the way back to Seven Sisters. Crazy day, looked back on too fondly because of the result maybe. 😉
Great post Holic.
Those of you who have heard me tell it, or recall it from the “Why Arsenal” drinks posted by tabs, will know that my main recollection of this game is from the evening of the match with my mate roaring incoherently drunk from a phone box somewhere in North London.
I’m still jealous that he made the match and I didn’t, 33 years on.
Wolfie @ 41, I’m glad you didn’t claim passing into “manhood” 😉
Another top-notch history post ‘Holic.
Happy Christmas to you and yours and hope Mrs ‘H returns to full health.
Hey Catalan, happy navidad to you sir.
Tabs, have a great one mate, will have to return to read your post above ‘cos hurrying off to the panto now !
Oh yes I am . . . 😉
Cheers to all the other top Gooners in the bar – see TS’ comments yesterday – you all know who you are.
Eurostar price to come back on the 27th are ridiculous.
And looks like I have to go to GdN (not really part of my Dec 24th plan, truth be told) if I want to try and exchange my way out from 26th to 27th.
Merry Christmas from TfL……
Back from Gare Du Nord and you lot haven’t batted an eyelid 😉
Heh Ollie! A stroll in the Paris sunshine – what’s not to like!
Trev Feliz Navidad / Bon Nadal to you too! 🙂 Hope the panto had sufficient inuendos to keep you entertained.
Henry – hmm. Part of me wants it, part of me is scared that he may lose some of his gloss in my memories. There’s a reason they say “never go back”….
RER- Train Station, hardly a stroll outside Dr C 😉
St Mirren vs Rangers on TV here.
2-1 to St M now.
Another super post ‘Holic. My memories of that day are vivid even though I had to wait for the MoTD highlights in the evening to see the action as I was laid-up in bed with a dose of teenage boy-flu. Will never forget watching that Brady curler into the top corner, absolute perfection indeed. Back at school after Xmas and we did a fine job of tormenting the Sp*rs fans. This time, they had no answer.
Tabs is right, I can never, ever feel any sympathy for that lot. Should the worst happen this season, we will ineviatbly overhaul them yet again soon after and force them back into our shadow where they will always belong.
Once again season’s greetings to all in the bar and my best wishes to all for a memorable 2012.
Delighted to share a new year’s eve pint with anyone here going to the QPR-ha-ha game!
‘holic and all: Thanks for sharing your great memories of this great game. Many times may the 0-5 scoreline be repeated. 😀
Fact! Discuss.
Please complete your essay in 25 pages or fewer using double-spaced paper. Due Christmas morning.
Merry Christmas/Feliz Navidad from the Great White North to ‘holic and all ‘holics everywhere. Also, would like to wish everyone all the best in the new year.
Up the Arse!
Holic, once again, you make me extremely jealous. Wish I coulda been there.
Sympathy?
I hope they rot in hell.
Merry Christmas, ‘holic, and a round of California’s finest (be it Pinot or Santa’s merry green friend) for the house, barman.
Thanks for sharing so much of yourself, ‘holic, I appreciate your insight, your sense of theatre, and your taste for the historic.
By the way, over coffee this morning I get to read another chapter of “So Paddy Got Up”, lucky as I was to get a copy here in the states!
To Holic and all Holics!
Sending the warmest Christmas wishes to you all and your families. May God shower his choicest blessings on you and your family this Christmas!
I hope Mrs H will soon feel back to her old self!
Have a good one GOONERS!
Will join here back tomorrow family supper the Polish way soon!
Pierogi for all!
Happy Christmas, Arthur, ‘holic and all ‘holics!
Christmas Eve and all is well here at GoonerTerry’s ranch in the foothills of St. Andrew, Jamaica. From where I am sitting on my veranda my view is a lovely panorama of Kingston with the Kingston Wharf in the distant background. All is framed from east to west in many hues of green: Its the most wonderful time of year to be in Jamaica. Hard to believe that there is the carnage of the last minute Christmas shopping just a couple of miles down the hill…but not me: Mrs GT & the girls have joined the fray leaving me in peace with my thoughts and thinking of the Arsenal. Believe it or not there was a time when I considered making a resolution about not being so caught up with the Arsenal anymore…I know, I know: It lasted less than a month thankfully!! But at 56 I have now accepted that my team is the most important thing to me – along with my wife & daughters in a statistical dead-heat..
So as I enjoy my Christmas bathed in tropical sunshine my mind will be on you lucky devils who will be at the game against Wolves & QPR – if you happen to bump into each other please have a sip of the good stuff for me too. I will also be thinking of Holic & Mrs H and sending them some healing vibes for their quick recovery. I want to also send a special “Cheeers” to the cast of characters who frequent this bar every day: Thanks for the many, many belly-laughs and giggles. You lot are the finest group of Gooners to be found anywhere and I thank you all for bringing plenty of smiles to my days.
Merry Christmas & happy wishes for the New Year..
Terry
GoonerTerry and Oxon Gooner @ 32/33, excellent stories of that spectatular match good sirs, I’m sure I wasn’t even an twinkle in my Daddy’s eye back then, don’t even think I was a zygote… 🙂
tabs @ 41, a masterful post 🙂
Your advice goes straight to the heart, forever kept there.
Zico @ 46, your pain is probably incomprehensible to most at not being at that game, I try to live life without any regrets (Spuds fans have already tricked over and smashed their teeth in at that hurdle) but missing that game would have ruined that mantra for good potentially.
How did you compensate?
Merry Christmas to all ‘Holics that are already in the 25th, and I hope you UK/Euro ‘Holics have had a useful Christmas Eve shopping day, I know I have 🙂
A very special Merry Christmas Eve/Merry Christmas to you ‘Holic and Mrs ‘Holic, hope she is in good spirits and health, careful with the turkey though old boy? 😉
I presume you are undertaking cooking duties this year? 🙂
GoonerTerry, Thanks for the lovely description of the Kingston panorama which I have never seen. May I provide a soundtrack?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oOtz6mE7sM
Cheers!
Catalan@34: aah, Alan Rough was his name! Thanks for that.
tabs@41, a great read!
Hope you all have a great Christmas Day, and in particular that the Holic management continues on her road to recovery.
Ollie at Christmas we have Carp as well, which went down with a treat.
Merry Christmas Holics ! 😉
Yet another masterclass in my Arsenal history education.
Merry Xmas Hoiic n Holics. Best wishes to the Holic management.
A hearty merry Christmas to all you fine holics – got in there 35 minutes early!
The tree’s up, the lights are working, the gifts are all wrapped and in position, the open fire is crackling away and the bottles of Estrella are chilling nicely in the fridge.
That’s Christmas, rural Essex style.
Hope you all get what you want – I know I know, I also want Shawc*nt bound and gagged with duct tape over his mouth, plus a selection of surgical tools in a gift set but hey…let’s find out tomorrow eh!
Camberwell, et al.: Six hours behind you but the presents over here are not wrapped quite yet. Got to get to that in a while, but for now a little comparison between the Terry and Suarez situations has caught my eye. Liverpool support Suarez by wearing t-shirts, but do Chelsea support Terry so openly? Could there be a secret or not so secret reason??
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/dec/24/chelsea-t-shirts-john-terry
Merry xmas to everybody and a happy new year!
Merry Christmas one and all. Special shout out to all the men and women serving in the armed forces this Christmas. God keep you safe and bring you home to your loved ones soon.
Almost time to start wrapping the presents. Time for one more raspberry for John Terry. 😉
LeGrash @ 64: Gosh I now have a complete understanding and appreciation of your immense intellect – I had no idea that your knowledge included Jamaican culture. Loved the video of Toots – one of my all-time favorites. I love the snippet from 3:12 on…(he say licking his lips)
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Merry Christmas to all!
merry xmas to all
Thanks all, and a very happy and healthy Christmas to you too.
Up at 7, never seen so many presents. Grand kids don’t know what to play with first.
I have a feeling I am going to get shot, a lot.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Holic, thanks for cheering up my days.
And best wishes to Holics everywhere, thanks for some great banter at the bar.
Here’s to a back-up striker amongst the parcels under the tree!
*raises glass of Buck’s Fizz*
Merry Xmas ‘holics!
Morning Everyone
Just popped in to wish all Holics around the Globe a very happy Christmas and all good wishes to you and yours. Just remember, life’s too short to drink bad wine this festive season. Thank you all for the great entertaining posts during the year ,which keep me constantly smiling.
As always COYRs
Merry Christmas to the ‘holic man himself and all other ‘holics far and wide.
Holic
You’re getting a shot? At this hour? Fair play to you sir! 😉
Merry Xmas to all you magnificent Goonerholics.
Hope you survive the hail of bullets, Holic.
I am aiming to survive death by Turkey and a mixture of just about every drink you can think of 😉
Merry Christmas, ‘Holic, and to all at the bar. A healthy, happy and prosperous New Year to one and all.
A glass of your finest mulled claret, if you would…
Oh fuck I’m fuller than an nhs waiting list, burp!
Pork sausages for breakfast and pork roast for dinner. That’s a way to fatten up the old belly. Merry Christmas, ‘holic and ‘holics, and be sure to get enough liquids to counteract those solids. 😀
And of course, Happy Hannukah to all the Jewish Holics here.
Back home.
Had a lot to eat, but not a lot to drink (well I had to drive after all!).
Happy Christmas/Hannukah/etc, to one and all.
Tee Hee
Still behind us and RVP not injured yet
Merry Xmas Goons
Happy Hannukah Snir! I’ve got a present for you. After careful thought, a young Jerry Seinfeld would fit the bill. Witty, charming, and a sportaholic to boot. Cheers!
Cuntsop – Best start since 1961.
Worst start in 58 years.
Spurs over Arsenal by only 3 points.
Fuck off, you and your cock standing on a basketball.
Oh fuck it….he takes the ball forward..
Seeing no one available he beat one player & then a next..
Wolfe sprints through on the blind side..
Catalan waves frantically on the far side, trying to catch GT’s attention. He seems to be distracted by Wolfe at full speed in his jimmy choos….
Then, a blistering break from left mid…….
Happy festivities to all ‘holics.
We could use a few more perfect assists if we really want to score some goals around here …
In acres of space
Blasts it over the top!!
In acres of space at the far post
Arms outstretched in desperation……..
Wait!! Solely due to the sumptuous pass from Steve T that shot didn’t go over the top after all. 😀
In the back of the net!!
Teamwork of the highest order…..
Teamwork? More like conspiracy!
Conspiracy indeed Geoff 🙂
I was too stuffed to join in with the attack anyway 😉
Geoff, my dear man. The defence were all keeping their eyes on Steve T who was in acres of space, doncha know?? 😉
In fairness, you can’t teach that…….
Just checking back on the drinks, I can document that Steve T was #1 in addition to his delicious assist at the century mark. He may be a grizzled veteran, but he has quite some skill left to his game, I can assure you. 🙂
Maybe we should have him on a 6 week loan then 😀 ?
As the saying goes…
The older I get, the better I was….
A quick drop in – in part to see if the stricken laptop is up to the task.
It has now been revived in it’s state, as new, in August 2009 – beware the streams !!
Hope everyone had a great day. Mine was, almost, completed by watching Sky Sports interview with Cesc back in Barcelona.
Once again, and I know some here no longer wish to hear what he has to say, I was left almost moist eyed by listening to an ex-Arsenal player talking about a very special club, his reasons for having to leave, and what the club, and one Mr Wenger in particular, meant to him.
Good stuff – worth a look.
GoonerTerry @ 61 – nice post, cheers to you sir.
It really was good stuff Trev.
The way former Arsenal players talk about AW amazes me every single time.
Even Bobby who was rumored to be extremely offended after the CL Final substitution still has only good words to say about AW.
He really is special.
God love everyone in ‘holic’s drinks, merry christmas to all, and all good things in the new year…especially good health for the ‘holic management…I am not here as much as I would like to be, so thanks for making this such a great goonerish place to play…
and well in bt8b…
Merry Christmas ‘holics
Decent result in Fulham.
There’s a new post up.
